My first foray into this series I just rolled up my sleeves and started working on Book Three (didn't know that at the time). I was going to slowly/gently talk about about Trauma. The experience wasn't a disaster at all, but I was very quickly overwhelmed ^_^;

I finished my 200 page book of cartoons.

I'm working on a pitch packet now. It's slow going because I'm also looking for a job (so here's an patreon link for ya).

Only one tribe/clan remains that actually cares about gold, but for some time all my Orcs loved sacking and looting. ...I may have had something to do with that! ^_^;

So naturally we built up a nice big mound and hollowed it out, a vault for all our stolen metal. This was all before our war with the Vampires (you can see their castle in the background). So I figure—we should have a Dragon—cuz what better guard for gold could there possibly be? Right?

Didn't want to go with just ANY Dragon, so I took to the pages of Beowulf and summoned THAT Dragon.

OOPS!

How was I to know? That we'd never see any of that gold ever again upon pain of death? Or that my Orcs' sense of disappointment would drive them to murder?

Soooooooooo I had to get the hell out of there and lay low for two weeks (roughly one hundred years). When I came back all the Orcs who could remember me were long since deceased.

Vampires didn't go anywhere. Wasn't magic getting my Orcs to pick up that campaign again. Never be afraid to start over, kids.

I wanted to sit with myself for a while before drawing this. Let the jets cool, the smoke clear. What can I say? I don't celebrate until it feels safe!

And? I feel SAFE!

Absolutely painful memories are still painful. But I'm not being rag-dolled by them anymore. They don't intrude on my peace. I don't chew myself out or beat myself up over what happened in my schooldays. That's over.

Trauma Therapy is hard work. And so worth it.

And I love myself <3

Can I just say something?

Trauma therapy has helped me more than any other kind of therapy.

A (naturally occurring) forest fire is important for growth. The fire removes dead trees and rot. It spurs evergreens and sequoias to release seeds. As new forest plants sprout it feeds a multitude of animal life.

These slice-of-life cartoons were always meant to be mostly funny and whimsical, but I had to include this.

We all survive Traumatic events, the Trauma is what remains after. If you don't let it out, it stays in the body. It manifests in countless ways, none of which I was consciously consenting to.

My favorite writers on the subject are Gabor Mate and Clementine Morrigan.

And I'll be making celebratory illustrations each time I make it through a session, which I'll attach to this post.
