alright, listen. me before you au, but it's james as the caretaker and regulus as the one in the wheelchair. and barty is the ex-girlfriend who is getting married to the former best friend aka evan. sirius is the guy who was the primary physical caregiver. edit: REMUS. IT'S REMUS. and sirius is just regulus's brother. please i am begging, someone write this.

i had a thought™, you know how dangerous those get. but thankfully i left myself a raspy 4am voice memo so i present to you;

what kind of uncles/aunts would some of the marauders era characters be had they gotten the chance

1) remus uncle remus comes for saturday dinners and plays board games (more like is forced to, but he'll never complain). buys beautiful editions of books he loves to read for the kids and sometimes even reads them for them. makes them all music snobs. every. single. one. of the children. he most probably is a professor. takes the kids to the movies. never gets called anything but uncle moony by them for the rest of his life.

2) peter uncle peter would be the kind of uncle who would play with dolls or dinosaurs for hours and hours on with the kids and it never gets boring. all the tea parties and adventurous expeditions you can imagine. when the kid wants a pet he's the one that pesters the parents about it. even if it's a dragon, he pushes and reasons with them why it's a good idea and why the kid deserves it. he's the uncle that sneaks for ice cream to the freezer on summer nights when neither he nor the kid can sleep. they go sit in the garden and talk about anything and everything, he tells them fun stuff like stories from school or quidditch matches and crazy stories about their father/uncles that were supposed to be kept a secret from the kid because parents/adults are supposed to be role models, blablabla, it's too hilarious not to tell the kid.

3) james james would be the uncle that would run around the playground with the kid for hours and hours and hours on, never getting tired not one bit. when they were stuck on a tree unable to get down and crying, he'd climb up there and comfort them and get them down safely. he's the uncle that would buy the kid that one sweet their mom said no to. that one sweet the kid really wants and loves, he would fucking buy it for them and relish their happy smile - james potter loves to defy authority, never forget that. he's the uncle that would take the kid on family trips/holidays alongside lily and harry. he would be the one to teach the kid how to fly and maybe even buy them their first broom. he'd also be the one to teach them how to play the guitar. he's the uncle that would teach them to be kind to other kids, how to be better than he was when he was their age.

4) lily aunt lily would teach them how to make flower crowns and how to braid in general. she would let the kid play with all her pretty dresses and try them on and play princess. she would put makeup on them if they asked, but peter would actually be the one that painted the kid's nails if they wanted to. aunt lily is the aunt they would come to for advice about a future career, their education, but also about boys/girls later in life when they are being pursued by someone. when there's someone a bit annoying running after them they would come asking what to do and lily would always be like; "focus on your studies, if the boy/girl really loves you they'll continue to pursue you, they'll work on themselves, they'll stop being obnoxious, realize your worth, and then they'll be a good companion and husband/wife." lily would be the aunt that introduces them to photography. she would introduce them to muggle photography! polaroids and VHS cassettes and cameras. she and remus would do that together i feel. aunt lily would also be the aunt that would always take care of them when they got hurt. scratched themselves while riding a bike or flying a broom or just plainly got hurt. she'd be there with bandages and healing spells and a little kiss to the wound so that it feels better and the kid would actually believe her kiss has magical power because it's aunt lily, she is magical, THE most magical. she would probably be the most magical one of them all.

5) regulus (and sirius ig) uncle regulus would have been a wonder. you can't pinpoint what he'd be like because if he were to be some of the kids' uncle the circumstances would have to be totally different. because we are talking about a universe where everything is awesome, everything is cool when you're part of the team and they have good parents. so you can only wonder what kind of an uncle regulus (and therefore sirius) would be, because they would both be fundamentally different people. they wouldn't have turned out the way they did. someone completely different. but maybe, just maybe regulus would be the uncle that would show them and teach them about art - how to draw, paint or sketch. how to play the piano or the violin. and he would take them for swimming lessons for sure....

jegulus singing competition!au???

so.. me and my friend had a conversation recently, where we discussed what songs would the marauders sing at a singing competition at school or just like a normal public singing competition.

she was the one that brought it up and chose songs, like she had "the funeral" from yungblud for barty, "ocean" by elsa & emilie for pandora (bc that is just how we both imagine pandora's voice sounds), "the man" by taylor swift for lily (bc she would be a swifty, you can't tell us otherwise), "angry woman" by ashe for dorcas, etc. you get the point.

then she got stuck on regulus, because he's quite a pickle to decide. like, this is a public setting and regulus does not feel like someone who would choose a song that would expose some part of him. also it's supposed to be kind of like a "happy au"?? but either way if regulus isn't a miserable little shit it's not really regulus. and he would want to be mysterious and fulfil his sad boi agenda right?

so i come barging in with "je te laisserai des mots" by patrick watson. and like.. it makes SO much sense? because he's a bilingual bitch and a master of instruments AND a genius. i strongly believe he knows how to play both the piano and violin but prefers the violin because the piano was always sirius's thing? so if we're talking magical!au he would charm the violin (because it would be hard to sing while playing it) and would play the piano and sing this song. i can definitely hear him singing it.

this song allows him to keep his mysterious sad boi attitude because he knows nobody understands him apart from sirius. and sirius wouldn't go around telling people what the song is about; even if he did, regulus would call bull. but if you google what the lyrics mean the whole song feels very regulus. just the fact that it's called "i will leave you words/notes"??? which in canon, that's literally all he leaves behind when he goes to die in the cave? it's a great canon reference, if you ask me...

i'm just in love with the idea of this being presented to everyone, there's a sombre mood, everyone is touched because "wow... i never knew regulus could sing like that. that was beautiful..."

and then james comes on stage after him with the fucking pina colada song? just screaming "IF YOU LIKE MAKING LOVE AT MIDNIGHT!" right after? making a fool of himself to make others laugh and they eventually join him? bc he's not taking this seriously ofc, he just wants to enjoy the competition with his friends for fun? and that's where regulus instantly falls in love? but ofc he's regulus and denies it to himself for a long time. i just need someone like zeppazariel to write this? pretty please?

and when he's finished fooling around james tells regulus that he loved his song/performance and asks him for HIS opinion on the song james presented. and regulus just deadpans "well, you certainly lack half a brain if you thought that was a good song choice.." as a reference to the pina colada song bc the lyrics go "if you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain".

and james laughs because ofc he does? what else is he supposed to do when regulus black is standing there being mean to him and looking agonizingly pretty? his heart skips a beat without him even realizing it?

no the reason sirius gets angry at james for being with regulus is because. sirius knows james is a kind person with strong morals. he also remembers regulus as a kid, sweet and kind, before he was forced to hide all that, change or be crushed under their parents expectations. but if james is with regulus, then something of that kid must still remain. if james is with regulus, that must mean that regulus was never completely a lost cause. if regulus opened up to james, that must mean that james did something right where sirius did it wrong. it hurts sirius, because he thought he was the person that knew regulus best and thought that he was the only one capable of saving regulus, so when he failed, well that meant regulus was too far buried already. but here’s proof that that wasn't true. so it must be that sirius just wasn’t good enough.

sirius gets mad at james because james was somehow better than him. sirius gets mad because regulus is the one choosing james over him. sirius gets mad because this is just one more example of how hes failed regulus over and over again.

dorcas is just using binoculars, focusing on every move james makes, barty has a trench coat on with the collar up and is just openly glaring at james, pandora is wearing a pink wig and she’s taking pictures, evan has a big hat and sunglasses
