An Actual Engagement???

♡ I have been wanting to write this for so long... Just know this takes place years after they've escaped Gardenview, I'd estimate it'd be 4 years later than the current timeline rn. Anyways - Vee has saved enough money to finally buy Shelly a true ring and wants to actually marry her for real now, will she accept or is it too soon? ♡

It's been years since their "wedding" in the oat milk aisle.

It's been over 10 years since Vee finally gave in and confessed her feelings, since Shelly claimed her that fateful night, since they started dating.

It's been too long.

Vee adjusted the pink ribbon around her neck anxiously, shaking as she gently felt her pants pocket to make sure it was in there. The box. The ring. The actual engagement ring, the one she's been saving for almost a year for, the one she knew would make Shelly the happiest dinosaur on earth. She looked over her suit in the mirror again, making sure it was perfect. It was the same dark rose theme she knew Shelly - and Glisten surprisingly enough - said she looked amazing in. Her undershirt was a hot pink, her bowtie being Glisten's old bow. She adjusted the sleeves before taking a deep breath, forcing herself to stop shaking as she walked out of their shared room. Shelly waited for her, all beautiful and perfect as always, in a flowy pink dress with one of Vee's sunhats on, pink makeup on her face - just enough to notice but not enough to cover up Vee's favorite features. They looked like they were just going on a yearly Valentine's Day date - Shelly was clueless, just laughing with her mom at a stupid dinosaur joke. Vee smiled as she nodded once.

She was definitely the one.

"Hey, ready to go on our yearly dinner date, Shells?" Vee asked casually, making the fossil turn and look at her with those beautiful amber brown eyes Vee's fallen in love with a million times over again. Vee shakily took a deep breath, her heart racing. She fell in love with them again.

"Of course Vee-Bee! Let's go! We'll be home in an hour mom!" Shelly cheered as she ran over to her girlfriend, taking her hand. Vee gripped it tighter than usual, but Shelly didn't care. Shanon just waved them off happily as Shelly lead them out, the two walking quietly to their favorite restaurant as they always did, their tails wagging in unison, Vee's gaze lost deep in Shelly's eyes. She hoped the boys she invited for support would be there... She was so nervous she might cry.

They were there, Sprout deep in a conversation with Cosmo, the two sitting at a table near the one Shelly always loved sitting at. Vee sighed in relief, feeling a little bit better with them there. She gently stopped Shelly before she sat down at their table, then grabbed both of her hands, shaking. Shelly looked at her, confused and concerned. Sprout and Cosmo were now watching, silently cheering them on.

"Shelly... I wanted to talk to you about something..." Vee managed to say quietly, the nervousness deep in her voice. Shelly looked even more concerned.

"What is it, honey? You look so scared... Are you okay..?"

"I'm fine, I just, I just hope you don't say no-"

"Say no to what???" Shelly asked, scared to know, but deeply curious now. Vee looked at the floor, taking a heavy deep breath before she let go of one of Shelly's hands.

"Shelly... We've been together for over 10 years, we've seen hell, we've survived the world ending and we've loved each other for every second of it. You held me when I needed it, I held you tight when you needed it, we've given each other thousands of kisses - hugs - compliments. We wake up every day and smile because we just see each other - we do everything together and we are so stupid together. We've shared our room for even longer than we've lived with Shanon- we get lost in each other's eyes constantly, we cheer each other on every day. We even tell each other the dumbest jokes every morning over coffee just to see each other smile... You're my world, and I'm yours-" Vee said, pausing to study Shelly's face. She was smiling one of her pure smiles, her eyes shining and full of love and bliss. Vee went on one knee, Shelly looked stunned.

"Vee-"

"Shelly... My beautiful girlfriend, best friend, my world... Would... It be okay if I officially stole your really badass last name- and made us the happiest lesbians in the world. Would you marry me?" Vee asked, pulling out the box and offering it to her. She knew she was supposed to open it, but her... Brain kind of fried when she saw that look on Shelly's face. The way she stared back at her, her eyes full of tears but joy and love and excitement. Her body trembled as a sob came out, her other hand over her mouth.

"Vee... I... I would marry you 100 times over... I... I'd love to marry you, oh my god, YES!! PLEASE!!!" Shelly answered when she got herself together enough to talk. Vee froze, Cosmo and Sprout cheered louder than they intended to, Shelly fell on her knees sobbing.

It was a happy sob though.

The two newly engaged soon were latched onto each other, crying and laughing together, both so surprised by this and loving it so much at the same time. The people around them were cheering for them, but they couldn't care. They only cared about each other.

"I love you so much you stupid fool, why would I ever say no?" Shelly asked once they'd gotten themselves mostly together, making Vee laugh while sniffling quite often.

"I just, I love you so much I got scared, I'm sorry I know you would've said yes." Vee admitted, then looked at the still closed box and then back at Shelly. Shelly just offered her hand, and Vee opened it, revealing a beautiful silver banded ring with Topazes and Emeralds embedded throughout it, a white heart shaped diamond being the centerpiece of it all. Vee gently put it on her finger, still laughing like an idiot, and soon they kissed while still sitting on the floor. They were stupid, but they were each other's stupid forever now.

"I love you, Vee."

"I love you too, Shelly."

"We should get off the floor and actually... Eat dinner..." Shelly said mid laugh, slowly getting up and helping Vee up as well. They sat down beside each other, shoulders touching, Shelly's hat being set aside just so she could use Vee's shoulder as a pillow.

They were attached to each other the entire dinner, sharing stories of their stupid past crushing on each other moments and laughing at how they still wore those dumb pop tab rings despite them being worn down and starting to fall apart now. They were deeply in love, deeply stupid, and deeply enjoying every second buried in the other's love.

They were perfect.

Cosmo and Sprout took so many pictures of them being this way, and a video of the proposal, and Sprout sent it all to Shanon, then he looked at Cosmo.

"So when do we tell them we saw everything?" He asked, tossing his phone to Cosmo, who caught it perfectly like he's done thousands of times before.

"When Vee inevitably asks for the proposal video, she did invite us here for a reason ya know." Cosmo casually replied with a smile. Sprout nodded, giving his boyfriend a kiss on the head.

"That makes so much sense... Want any dessert before we leave?" Sprout asked, tapping a finger on the table, deep in thought. He didn't care if their matching rainbow promise rings were showing, not after a whole restaurant cheered for two lesbians getting engaged anyways. It was the closest thing Cosmo wanted to a wedding, they're still debating it - since neither really see the point of one. Cosmo thought as well, then nodded.

"Only because we'd be able to see those two be happy more, they're really stinking cute together." Cosmo replied after thinking a bit, making Sprout nod.

"Agreed, I'll pay for it, no problem."

"Thanks Sprout."

"Anytime, Cosmo."

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
