Your eyes flutter open as sprinkles of sunlight peeking through the blinds serve as your only alarm, traces of chocolatey hair prickling your skin as he nuzzles into your neck. Your fingers twirl the coils of his knotted tresses, smoothing them into shining waves before pressing kisses against his ear. And that's when you see it.

A basket perched on your nightstand, tied neatly with a bow, and piled high with various cosmetics and accessories. As you sort through each item, feeling nostalgia pinging with every gift, you realize there's a reason you recognize them. 

Each is a small element from a moment in your relationship—the nail polish you wore on your first date, the lipstick you chose for your first kiss. He notes the quirks of others subconsciously, though he chooses to ignore them unless it benefits him. But not with you.

He cherishes every ephemeral habit—the crease of your forehead as candles burn on, the haze of your eyes as raindrops pour down, the indention of your lips as movies summit closed. You're always too preoccupied to notice, but he gawks at you without shame, admiring the purity of your features. He is known for being abstract, but you are his complete opposite. So completely unabashed in sharing your opinions and sentiments, even through your own expressions. And in a way, you're far braver than he believes himself to be, so he knows he must remind you of that.

𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗨𝗬𝗔 𝗡𝗔𝗞𝗔𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗔 ⋆⁺₊ ⸺⸺⸺

Your sleep is interrupted by a yelp. For a moment, you wanted to keep your eyes closed, still sluggish with sleep, but a sequence of other noises pulled you out of bed. Unaware of the eyes peeking out from under the covers, a smirk on their proprietor's face as you shuffled out of the room, you journeyed into the living room. And he knew that you had found precisely what you were looking for when he heard a barrage of coos and badly muffled shrieks escape your lips, rushing back into the room with a puppy snuggled in your arms, a cute bow fastened to its collar. He knew your heart had been stolen at a glance, much like he had been long ago.

That puppy is now your child, a part of your family. Even if you don't realize it, this dog expresses his eternal fondness and dedication to you and any family you plan to have. He would prefer to pick a larger dog breed, the loyal type of canines that remain devoted to their families (Akitas, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, etc.). He knows you'd love any dog, but he wants to guarantee that you'll be protected if he isn't there.

And don't be surprised if an engagement ring follows a few months later. You're raising an animal together—your fur baby—and while it's a bit out of order, he wants to tie the knot officially. And you'll have the cutest little ring bearer in the world ⋆˙⟡♡

𝗙𝗬𝗢𝗗𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗘𝗩𝗦𝗞𝗬 ⋆⁺₊ ⸺⸺⸺

(I briefly discussed this in a post a while ago, but I wanted to expand on it a bit further.)

A stack of uniform presents pile in symmetrical mountains around the base of your shared tree; each fold intricately pristine. However, he insists on having a large breakfast, reveling in your anticipation with each course as you eye the gifts—it's too cute. Once you've finally reached the tree, he observes with unstated delight as you rip open the wrapping paper, only to discover hardcover copies of classic novels in your favorite genres.

He knows you peruse through his personal collection while he is away on missions, missing him and seeking comfort in his familiar words. Without your knowledge, he has caught you with a beaming grin on your face, skimming the story, enamored by his annotations. So once you've finished the book, with your thoughts written neatly inside the pages, he'd offer to swap with you, finding a sudden interest in the story.

Because the way your brain operates is absolutely fascinating to him—it is, in his (correct) opinion, one of your most stunning attributes. He finds himself seeking other ways to look into your thoughts, and if you just so happen to get inside his head as a result, he finds that he doesn't mind all the much.

𝗡𝗜𝗞𝗢𝗟𝗔𝗜 𝗚𝗢𝗚𝗢𝗟 ⋆⁺₊ ⸺⸺⸺

He would be bouncing up and down as soon as the sun rose, forcing you onto the sofa as he picked presents up from across the room. However, breaking away from tradition, he insisted that he opened the first few, utilizing many of your gifts as props for a little skit.

He enjoys your laughter more than any other sound in this world. It's such a freeing sight, watching you throw back your head, unable to help yourself. Even in the midst of his antics, he finds himself unable to avert his gaze, wide-eyed as you laugh without a care in the world. To him, you're always beautiful, but especially when you're happy.

And in that, he realizes that he wants to make you laugh all the time. Every second that you're together should be filled with joy. His heart constricts painfully whenever he sees sorrow on your face, and he has made it his prime duty in life to relieve your suffering. Anything that has ever made you laugh is collected in those gift boxes, and he feels lighter than ever as you giggle in your seat.

You have become the rope that tethered him to the ground, but he finds that he no longer wishes to fly free. Perhaps he has become exactly what he used to fear: his own attachments anchoring him, but he doesn't mind. He is a fool, but only for you.

𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗠𝗔 ⋆⁺₊ ⸺⸺⸺

He has never had anyone to celebrate the holiday with before; there hasn't been a reason. So instead, he would bury himself in his paperwork, trying to find a purpose through the letters, though he knew it was all in vain. So when he finds someone to celebrate with, he will ensure that you will stick around until the holiday next year.

You're met with bundles of presents, heavy with luxurious clothes and fragrant accessories, things he knows you like. But one of those gifts stands out amongst the rest: a simple box with a neat but fashionable outfit inside. Your eyes scan the seams, and it dawns on you—these are handmade. 

He knows his stuff about fabrics and colors, constantly choosing different options for the casino, and one of his stress-relieving hobbies (in my headcanon) is sewing. Before you came into his life, he made his own clothes, finding only brief comfort in the repetitive stitches.

But there is something so domestic about creating clothes for someone you care about. Thoughts of them are embuded in every stitch, seams pressed with care as it's molded to flatter your body specifically. It reassures him whenever you walk around the building, showing off your new clothes with a smile on your face—you are his family, his home. His other half. And you are here to stay.

Halloween Collab 2023 - 17/31 ; open !

Why hello there, loyal customer; Today I'm here to announce a collab for everyone's favorite holiday which starts on august and lasts 'till the end of October; spooky season!

Accepting collaborators 22nd-30th of September; This Halloween collab will be an advent that focuses on canon x reader/viewer content; you can join as an author/artist, with a minimum of 300~ words and no upper limit. -if you're interested, take a seat.

Here is how it'll work;

Everyone who participates in this collab will pick a prompt, and post their work on the day corresponding to the prompts number; it is mainly centered around writing, though artwork can be included !

November is drawing to a close, and for many of us, the winter season is about to begin. We are about ready to snuggle under blankets with hot chocolate or tea and, of course, a nice story!

We’d like you to join us in celebrating this season by sharing your creations! Consider joining the third edition of:

12 Days of Mystrade (and Friends) Advent Calendar

December 21, 2023 - January 1, 2024

We’re looking for new fanfic and art about Mystrade, Johnlock, or any other pairing within the Sherlock universe! Please note that general fics and art are also welcome! Your contribution can be a story, picture, video, collage – we are open to all kinds of art, as long as there’s some kind of winter or holiday theme. Go where your muse takes you – be it something fluffy, funny, or angsty! We also accept WIP, and there is no minimum or maximum word count or rating requirement.

Submissions are open until December 6th. Once they’re in, we’ll get back to you with a particular day for you to post your work on Archive of Our Own (AO3).

a summary & the title of your work (if you have them - this is only to organize the calendar order - a general idea is also fine)

ANNUAL WRITING SELF EVALUATION 2023

List of works published this year:

Wanted: Dog Walker // Louis needs a dog walker. / Harry answers the ad. A Social Construct // Five times Harry and Louis try to lose their virginity and one time they finally do.

Tongue Tied // Louis’ new bestie placed a hand on his shoulder; he turned with a sway and looked into his blue eyes. ”What do you wish?” / The world spun for a moment, and Louis shrugged. It was easy. The only thing he wanted. “I wish that I could tell Harry that I love him, instead of getting all tongue tied and chickening out.” / The Irishman winked. “You never know, your wish may just come true.” / “From your lips to God’s ears, mate.” He gave the man a hug. “I gotta go before my Uber leaves me.” / He stumbled to the door, and that was the last thing he remembered from the night. ‘tis the damn season // Harry returns to her small hometown over the holiday season and starts to think about the road not taken.

Work you are most proud of (and why): ‘tis the damn season because I have always said that there was absolutely no way I could write an advent fic day by day. And yet, when Nov 30th came around and I only had two chapters, my fomo won over my fear of failure and I thought I’d give it a try, because the worst that would happen is that I wouldn’t finish it, which would’ve been fine! But then with the help of everyone who read along, I actually did it! 

A favorite excerpt of your writing: unlike most years, when I quickly scrolled through my works, nothing specific jumped out, so I’ll just say that I really liked how ch 6 rolled into ch 7 in ‘tis the damn season! 

Share or describe a favorite review you received: literally every single one.

A time when writing was really, really hard: oh boy. Okay. so if you go back and read my 2022 recap, and 2021, you’ll see that writing has consistently been hard for me for a few years. So, this year I told myself not to worry about it, that I could not write a single thing and not feel bad about it. I didn’t do a ton of writing this year, but having the internal pressure off sure helped. Even though I really miss the way it used to be. 

A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: I’ll say Zayn in ‘tis the damn season, because I didn’t have a role for her when I started, and I really liked her as minor threat slash Louis’ bff and sometimes hookup. I want someone to write a story in her pov. lmaoooo How did you grow as a writer this year: I really tried to get rid of my perfectionist tendencies and tried to write without putting pressure on myself. 

How do you hope to grow next year: i dont even know, tbh. I’ll be very happy if I match my 2023 fic count. 

Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): I adore everything that @disgruntledkittenface put out this year. The way she keeps pushing herself is really inspiring.

Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: ummm, I guess the ‘moving back home thing’... idk. Nothing i wrote this year hit particularly close to home. 

Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: i love you. please keep going!

Last year, everyone was doing this as I was rushing to write one last fic before the new year. I’m not currently writing anything, so I figured I’d go ahead.

Once I got past the feeling of omgggg this is terrible why did I ever think I could write anything, I felt like my normal writing self while working on it , and it was reassuring because writing has been nearly impossible this year

Rode Hard and Put Away Wet

Idk why exactly but it’s definitely not my favorite. No offense if you love it 😘

4. A favorite excerpt of your writing:

I’m terrible at picking favorites of anything, but the last line here was the one I built U-Pop Truck Stop around:

“Harry, get a load of the sign in the shower,” Niall says with a loud chuckle that echoes off the tiled walls and floor. He pushes the shower room door open before it can shut all the way, and points at the black rectangle hanging on the shower wall, its white block letters spelling out:

ONLY ONE TRUCK DRIVER PER SHOWER

“See it?” Niall asks, still laughing.

“See it?” Harry grins, thinking back to that fateful night, and says, “I’m the reason they hung it up!”

6. A time when writing was really, really hard:

Literally every single minute of 2023

7. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you:

All of Truth or Drink because I had the questions, but I didn’t have their backstory planned. It all just came out as I was writing and I really love that H and L

8. How did you grow as a writer this year:

I had to learn to let go of writing long fics and try to be satisfied with shorter stories. Idk if that’s growth though because tbh I’m not satisfied lol and I miss it so much

9. How do you hope to grow next year:

Next year I really hope to learn how to write in a way that satisfies my creative side, that produces longer works, but that takes more time. I need to figure out a way to write the length of fic I want to write, but spread it out and still keep that focus and inspiration going

10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

It’s literally always Nic @louandhazaf because without him, I’d never have written a word, and without him, I still wouldn’t write. He’s the backbone of my writing and the best friend and beta I could ever hope for

11. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year:

I’m absolutely shocked to answer no to this because bits of my real life have always wormed their way into my fics, but I guess it’s because all my fics this year have been so short?

12. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers:

Other than JUST WRITE and listen to @roseanddaggerpodcast I highly recommend titling your wip WORST VERSION OF whatever your title is because that helped me soooo much on Ride My Sleigh Tonight when I was struggling at the start. As soon as I put that in the doc title it was like magic. Every time I’d get in my head and think “oh this is horrible” or whatever or start thinking that my writing sucked or something, I’d see that title and think I CAN FIX IT LATER

13. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year:

I actually have a wip where L and H got married really young and divorced really young (no kids or anything) but I’ve sort of abandoned it. Idk if I’ll get back to it.

I did have an idea for a xmas fic lol and if I do write it, I’m thinking of posting it like an advent fic but in July. So like xmas in July 🎄

In reality, I’m going to be so busy idk if I’ll be able to write at all, but I really just want to be inspired by an idea that won’t let go

Twilight Advent Calendar 2023 Event

Dec. 12 - What changes did the rest of the family see in Edward as he began to fall in love with Bella?

-He was so, so twitterpated. If he were human he would have been stumbling over his feet and walking into walls. As it was, everyone had to shout his name fairly often to snap him out of his Bella haze. He left things in the wrong places all over the house. He took ten times longer to get dressed because for once he actually cared about what he was wearing (which also meant more arguing with Alice over what he wore). He accidentally called Esme Bella more than once.

-His piano music suddenly filled the house again. He had never totally stopped playing before, but it had been a long time since he had been able to fully relax into a several-hour session of just meandering through his favorite pieces. Jasper started hanging out in the living room again to do his paperwork and hobbies because Edward's music felt lovely and even inspiring. It hadn't felt like that in quite a while.

-His composing muse awoke with a vengeance too: new pieces sprang to life faster than he could manage. Most of them weren't even directly inspired by Bella. He was just suddenly seeing beauty and poetry in all kinds of things that had seemed mundane before.

-(Ironically, he was much happier when he was away from Bella; most of his angsting was done when they were together. When he was at home without her, that's when he felt all wistful and silly and gentle and romantic. Now that most of his objections and worries have been laid to rest post-canon, let's hope Bella gets to see more of this side of, uh, their relationship.)

-The cooking thing. Most of his family was... a bit perplexed, because they don't know anything about cooking. They just assumed the whole thing would be a flop because Edward wasn't capable of tasting anything properly. But of course Esme's mother-heart just overflowed with happiness over it. I wonder if she was the one to suggest it, or if Edward approached her? Either way, she spent many a happy hour in the kitchen with Edward helping him out—not so much with the recipes themselves as "This is how you measure flour."

-Everyone noticed he was more attentive to them in general (when he wasn't in his Bella haze); it took a while for them to realize that he was watching how they interacted as couples. How they argued, how they compromised and solved disagreements, how they apologized (or didn't), how they touched, how they went from silly to sexy over the course of a conversation, how they greeted each other and how they parted. He'd made a casual study of these three marriages for a long time, but as with his composing, suddenly he was taking notes again.

“How was the initial version of 'Peak Tumblr' chaotic?”

Hey, this is my first post in my “MDA20009 Digital Communities” series. Tumblr may not be an unfamiliar platform to social media users in contemporary society, with an average of over 200 million visits worldwide in the last six months of 2023 (Statista, 2024). However, this does not represent the peak period of Tumblr, as statistical data from Alex Barredo indicates that Tumblr's heyday recorded nearly 120 million daily posts in 2014. Therefore, what transpired during that period, and how has Tumblr evolved since then?

Established in 2007, the microblogging platform Tumblr swiftly emerged as a platform for individuals of varying age groups worldwide to disseminate their musings, creative works, fanfiction, and feminist perspectives. The most apt depiction of the Tumblr community is akin to an extended version of Twitter, facilitating the ability to track individuals, disseminate original content, explore common interests through hashtags, and redistribute others' content within one's own feed. Comes along with the liberation of Tumblr are concepts of “platform vernacular”. The platform was structured as an expansive, perpetually flowing stream of content. Every social media platform develops its distinct amalgamation of conventions, linguistic structures, and rational frameworks, collectively forming what could be termed as a "platform vernacular" or a prevalent mode of communication derived from the broader populace (Gibbs et al. 2014, p. 257). In the case of Tumblr, its vernacular can be succinctly encapsulated by the following issues: niche communities, echo chambers, body positivity, discourse on adult content, NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content, and feminism.

Tumblr serves as a platform facilitating the identification and association of specific communities predicated upon shared interests, fandoms, or social movements. In this capacity, it cultivates profound interpersonal bonds among individuals whose affinities extend beyond conventional real-world connections. Notably, the platform embraces divergent and contentious subjects, thereby establishing a milieu conducive to amplifying marginalised voices and fostering inclusive discourse. Furthermore, Tumblr's propensity for engendering niche groups enables the proliferation of diverse content, thereby challenging the prevalent algorithmic echo chambers that typify many contemporary social media platforms.

Emerging from the historical context of the "fat acceptance movement" within 2nd wave feminism during the late 1960s, the body positive movement, as elucidated by Afful and Ricciardelli (2015), fundamentally advocated for the embracement of marginalised bodies while rejecting the societal imposition of the thin ideal. Rooted in the ethos of inclusivity and empowerment, body positivity transcends physical attributes such as size, shape, skin tone, gender, and ability. It represents a multifaceted social movement that challenges the entrenched norms of beauty, as underscored by academic sources. The genesis of Body Positivity can be traced back to the fat liberation movement of the 1970s. This movement aimed to dissociate from the dominant societal narrative regarding fat bodies. Expounding upon this discourse, the movement implores individuals to confront and dismantle the unrealistic beauty standards perpetuated by societal constructs, fostering an environment conducive to the celebration of human diversity in all its manifestations. The resurgence of the body positivity concept occurred concomitant with the advent of the third wave of feminism, as highlighted by Gibson (2017). Subsequently, the hashtag #bodypositive began to gain traction, manifesting its emergence as early as 2012 across various social media platforms. Initially, the Body Positive movement sought to challenge conventional notions surrounding marginalised individuals' bodies and lifestyles. Within their scholarly piece titled "Queering beauty: fatshionistas in the fatosphere," Lauren Gurrieri and Helene Cherrier expound upon the concept of "queering" as a critical mode of engagement. They elucidate that "queering" serves as a method aimed at challenging and destabilising the commonly accepted ideas pertaining to identity. It sought to achieve this goal through the establishment of liberation groups and the elevation of awareness regarding the oppression faced by individuals with larger bodies within the feminist discourse. (Reif, Miller & Taddicken 2022). Feminism on Tumblr allows feminist discourse to historically adopt a categorization termed "Waves" to encapsulate distinct periods characterised by particular ideological currents. This method facilitates the grouping of ideas within defined temporal boundaries. References to "X Wave Feminism" typically denote a simplified representation of the prevailing struggles and prioritise the most salient issues articulated by prominent voices of the era. However, it is notable that the construct of "Feminist Waves'' often neglects the perspectives and contributions of marginalised demographics, including but not limited to individuals from working-class backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, persons with disabilities, Black feminists, feminists of colour, and those inhabiting intersections beyond the paradigm of "white and wealthy. Nevertheless, in the subsequent section of Keller's article, there is a segment entitled "Tumblr: A 'Proper Black Hole' of Feminism." Indeed, this aspect stands out as one of the persistent affordances associated with Tumblr: anonymity (Keller, 2019). Tumblr's feminist discourse exhibits a deficiency in its ability to engage with criticism and embrace complexity. Within this context, the discourse often adheres to a simplistic dichotomy of right versus wrong, resulting in the marginalisation of experiences that fall outside this binary framework. Moreover, Tumblr's feminist community tends to prioritise the activism of celebrity figures over the substantive impacts of their actions. Accountability is notably absent within this space, with voices of individuals wielding larger platforms being disproportionately amplified by the platform's algorithm, while marginalised voices face challenges in attaining visibility and influence.

Established in 2007, Tumblr evolved into a key centre for platform subcultures related to body positivity, gender nonconformity, queerness, and art. These communities extensively utilised the platform's permissive content policy, which permitted sexually explicit images, text, and animated GIFs. NSFW content, including pornography were being seen as aesthetic and cultural value. We can blame it for the policy of Tumblr, which company’s social media encourages users to share everything: “Use it however you like” and “Put anything you want here” remain Tumblr’s key commercial invitations to date (Reif, Miller & Taddicken 2022). In “Tumblr porn eulogy’’, Ashley refers to a story which in short is a life story about a girl and her journey to become an “online porn-worker” on Tumblr. “There is a worldwide community (a public sphere) that is occasionally termed 'E-girls'—though during that period, I personally labelled us as 'Internet Naked Girls, which were among the initial generation to truly come of age on social media.” (Ashley, 2019).

In November 2018, following a suspension from the Apple App Store due to the hosting of child pornography, Tumblr declared its choice to prohibit all NSFW (not safe/suitable for work) content on the platform, utilising machine-learning classification. The decision to adopt strict terms of use governing nudity and sexual depiction on Tumblr occurred swiftly and abruptly, resulting in the forceful removal of networks and visual archives developed over a decade. At present, despite Tumblr's default system prohibiting NSFW content based on community standards and ethical rating scales, the platform still allows users to enable a mode that permits the appearance of sexual content. This sets it apart from Twitter's current societal landscape.

“Osamu?”

You had awoken in quite a predicament. Swaddled in a clump of blankets with a cool washcloth pressed to your forehead, bubbling cups of tea and soup spinning steam into the air.

However, you partially clued in on the situation when you felt your head pounding. Your throat felt raw as a cough encroached on your breath, your skin was inflamed as sweat gathered by your temples, and your muscles ached as you attempted to stretch your arms. You were sick.

The smirking man before you was how you clued into the next part of your predicament.

“Yes, my love?”

You had no idea how long you had been swaddled up on the living room couch, but knowing Dazai, he had clued in on your sickness hours before you did. A perked brow was your sole response to him.

“Isn’t it obvious? You’re sick.” He snuggled into your side, a lopsided grin on his face as he pressed kiss after kiss onto your skin with a coo. “My poor sweet baby.”

“You seem a bit too enthused about this entire thing.”

“Me?” he gasped. “I can’t believe you would accuse me of such a thing!”

He quieted his voice as you winced. “But who wouldn’t be?” he teased, sweet nothing whispered into your ears as he ran his nimble fingers through your hair, massaging them into your temples. “I have an excuse to miss work and spoil my sweet belladonna. Sign me up.”

“Did you somehow get me sick?” you deadpanned.

“No, I wouldn’t,” he whined, digging further into the blankets until he was snuggled up with you, bracing your body against his chest as he lazily burrowed into your neck.

“Mhm,” you hummed, pressing a kiss to his hands. “Watch out. You could get sick.”

“You’re saying that,” he smirked. “But you’re doing nothing to get away.”

“I’m sick, and you’re warm. Sue me.” You leaned into him as you toyed with his bandaged fingers.

He trailed kisses across your neck, his cool skin drawing a soft groan from your lips. “And that means I’ll have extra time to spend with my baby because she’s so sweet, and I know she’ll take of me.”

“Mm, I’ll consider it,” you mumbled, eyes heavy.

He gasped, much to your tired amusement, as tiny giggles escaped your lips between a cough. His arms were hot as they squeezed around your waist, and before long, you found yourself nuzzled into his chest on the cusp of sleep. His fingers traced your features as your eyes fluttered closed, a kiss pressed against your forehead.

“Sweet dreams, my love.”

Thoughts On Invictus*

Surrounded by books in a well-trafficked bookstore, I sat down to coffee with a former student.  We’ve been meeting this way for many years.  By now, he is in his early 70s while I am staring down at 87.  Happily, we are both in robust health, and I always look forward to our conversations, particularly on that day as he’d recently returned from a year in Japan.  As he related his experiences about life aboard, I noted he spoke in a  booming voice as though his words needed to carry to the back of a large hall. As we were seated at a  pedestal table no more than 3 feet apart, I took exception. “Why are you yelling at me? I can hear you perfectly well.”    My companion paused, his features creased in a puzzled expression. “I’m sorry.  I thought you might be hard of hearing.” He was right in his assumption.  I am hard of hearing which is why I wear earbuds that are as expensive as diamonds but without the glamor. At 104, my mother could hear a fly drop on a marshmallow at twenty paces.  Sadly,  I follow in my father’s footsteps.  His hearing loss began in his 50s. Even so, he refused to see a doctor and seemed to delight in forcing friends and family to shout at him. Rejecting his example, I take pity on those around me and wear my hearing aids when I’m in public.  The doctor says I should wear them all the time, but they make my ears itch.  In any case, my point about the difference between my mother and father makes one thing clear.  People don’t age in the same way.  Hopefully, my mother’s genes will bestow a long and healthy life on me but science gives me no assurance.  Genes, they say, have a  10-35% influence on longevity.  The rest depends on diet and exercise.    Those born at the tag end of the Baby Boomers and the generations that followed probably see 80-somethings as prehistoric.  Born before the advent of television, we are folks presumed to live in the shadows, figures bent like candy canes who shuffle about unobtrusively with the aid of wheelchairs, walkers, or canes.  Would it surprise them to learn that  Helen Mirren, age 78 and two years younger than President Joe Biden, made 5 films this year? (“Up/front Watch,” AARP, Aug/Sept. 2023, pg. 12.)   Or, that in his two years in office, Biden has fulfilled so many campaign promises historians predict he will be remembered as one of the country’s ablest presidents?  Marjorie Taylor Greene, Georgia’s Republican member of Congress, disagrees with that assessment.  She roots for Donald Trump,  age 77,  to win the 2024 Presidential election.  Not only blind to Trump’s age, his previous presidential failures, and the many court indictments pending against him, she insists a higher power works in his favor. God has plans much bigger than this.  (“They Said What?” FreeTought Today, September 2030, pg. 2)  If the past is a prelude to the future, I shudder to think what these plans may be. True, a significant swathe of the country shares Greene’s view.  Like her, they don’t have the force of the pulpit behind them, but they claim to know God’s will and are determined by means fair or foul to convert the rest of us to their religiosity. They proselyte on social media, shout their hallelujahs over public school and prison speakers (Ibid pgs. 5-6), as well at sporting events–any place where they find a captive audience. Nature thrives on diversity, but their God demands conformity.  With each book banned from a school or library, these zealots celebrate– as if free will and free thought were worthy of a public hanging.  By degrees, their successes rob the world of color.  Once invention, imagination, and originality become exiles, we find ourselves confined to a grey pallet– a place of shadows where fear and hatred are free to spin their mischief.    The average lifespan for our species is 74 years.  Measured in days, that represents 272,000 sunrises.  Compare this number to the life of our sun which will burn another 4. 57 billion years.  Given the contrast between it and ourselves, a question arises.  Can we afford to be profligate with our brief hour upon the stage? Whether young or old, rather than busying ourselves judging others, we’d do better to contemplate our common destiny and how our actions make either heaven or hell of the earth. The journey each of us takes may be private, yet we know it has public consequences.  A good rule of thumb might be to consider looking inward and holding ourselves accountable for the good or ill we do.  Only when we have shouldered that burden as a compass can we claim to be captains of our souls. *Poem by William Ernest, Henley

After reading @psychiccatpanda‘s amazing   Morguna and the Green Queen, I  got the itch to explore the Soldier’s POV and talked  Faustie into   collab’ing with me!  We’re working on a new part of the series, and I’ve  contributed about 900 words towards the  2500-ish we have so far.   Going to see if I can squeeze any of my BBB squares into this fic.

Seventeen  fills, three  WIPs and a couple of ideas.  Have one bingo & am shooting for hopefully one more bingo with the fics listed below - thanks to the mods extending the deadline by a week!

* A4 - Fairy Tale Curse  - Despite being custom-made for a continuation of Beyond the Beast,  I just haven’t been able to to pull anything together in time.  😞    

* C2 - Meet Ugly - Posted  Deck the Halls  on Friday - a No Powers AU holiday fic that crossed over with my Winter Break Advent calendar prompt Day 1:  Putting Up Holiday Decorations at the Hospital.  It came in at 517 words.   

Bucky Barnes Bingo  - [BBB_R5]   (Ends 10 Jan 2024)

I’ve got  twenty-two fills for  four bingos, four WIPs,   and a couple more Vague ideas. Aiming for a blackout - we’ll see how close I get!  

* B3 - Sunrise/Sunset -  squished this into Chapter Nine of  Never More to Go Astray  to wrap up my Star Wars fusion fic with  Jedi!Steve,  Mandalorian!Bucky and fugitive!Tony in a Stuckony finale.  It came in at 781 words and posted this morning. 

* U3 - Fireplace -  posted  Making Room  on Friday - a soft WinterPepperony + Morgan holiday ficlet that came in at 256 words.

* C2 - Yelena Belova–   The plan is to use this prompt in the next chapter of Peresmešnik,  (aka Three Avengers and a Baby), which is I poked at a little recently and is currently sitting at 1551  words (800-ish of which are mine).

* C5 - Marriage of Convenience/Pretend Couple -  planning to use this in the next chapter of   Lady Natasha’s Consort and Lord Steve’s Companion.    Got a spark of an idea the other day that might get me a bit further on this fic.  

* K3 - Magic -  Wrote up A (Not So) Misplaced Gift as a crossover with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt   [#FFF232 Among Any Option]. It came in at 301 words and will  post to Ao3 before this event ends.

* May Adopted - Insomnia - finally got this filled with The Dead of Night, which also filled a Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF211 An Old Friend] along with my JBB FREE square. It came in at 317 words and will post to Ao3 before this event ends.

* August Adoptable: Take the Shot - Got inspired by a  discussion over on the BBB Discord server about which Avengers would be the best at pool/billiards -  pulled in a BaBB December prompt: Wingman and kept my original  WinterHawk pairing to write up It’s In the Way That You Use It - a No Powers AU with a meetup at a bar pool table - Natasha and Steve acting as the wingman/woman. It’s coming in at 1313 words and will post Friday.   

Tony Stark Bingo Round 7  - [TSB_R7]   (ends 15 Feb)

Twenty-one  fills and zero WIPs as of the moment, with a couple of ideas in play.

* A2 - KINK: Concubine - possible crossover with SAUB Gentle Dom  and SRB Multiple Submissives.  I’ve got a fairly fleshed out  (so to speak) story in mind   (Dom!Tony/sub!Steve/sub!Bucky) - just need to get it on paper.   

* A3 -  FREE  – @SomeSortofItalianRoast and I are looking at collabing on a  Steve/Tony/Scott fic - still need to throw some ideas around on this.  

* R5 - Doppelganger/Evil Twins -   The Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF214 Broken Mirror] got me at least a good start on the idea I’ve been playing with for this square. * T1 - AU: Fantasy -  CoffeeOwl shared a really cool dragon!Steve/indebted!Tony prompt in the ACB Discord server that I may be playing with for this.

* T5 - AU: No Powers - Posted I Need a Little Angel Sitting On My Shoulder last Friday.  Tony’s struggling with his sobriety during the holidays and reaches out to his sponsor, Steve.   It came in at 484 words and will post on the 18th.    

* O2 - Omegaverse - I have a Vague Idea inspired by  @kandisheek’s lovely art piece.

* Y4 - AU: Soulmates  -  @chrissihr  posted a cool idea about Animated soulmarks, where  only your SM sees your mark move - may try to do something with this!
