First of all they don't want to act like MJ had any privileges over the media than Taylor has. Calling him a freak or "wacko jacko" is mid in comparsion what they have actually have done. They apparently didn't say he was overexposed that means he faced no hardships whatsoever. Being called overexposed is apparently worse than everything he went through.

A black man does not have more privileges than a white woman.

The misogyny card they constantly try to pull does not work with him.

Also I think the critics say she's overexposed because the public is getting tired of her. Mj was just more talented than her so the public interest in him was bigger, while Taylor is basically showed down our throats.

Like I'm sorry but Taylor does not meet the standards the way she's hyped up.

And from what I have seen they were just crazy for him. Like he wasn't going after them calling paparazzis and shit annoucing his new album at award shows.

They did put his face on the cover of every magazine and he was constantly on TV.

He released Thriller in 1982 and waited until like 1987 with the next album Bad.

It's such an important part of her growth towards Peeta and no one talks about it!! The girl how has survived everything finally needs not just something, but SOMEONE. I personally choose to believe that the Hunger Games series is supposed to be Katniss's memoir/way of setting the record straight about her and her loved ones part in the Games/war. Meaning I think the entire country of New Panem was going into a FIT with every new chapter they read, let alone book. Just imagine the podcasts for a second.

I think- don't mind me if I step onto this soap box real quick. -I think in a way Finnick and Annie may be a representation of what would have happened to Katniss and Peeta if they had won their games separately.

Maybe I'm just an idiot who looks for parallels where there aren't any, but don't you think Katniss would have gone mad eventually? If she'd been alone in her victory, if she'd had to follow the same rules as the other Victors- prostitution, mentoring, being paraded around like a dog on a leash. -mentally she wouldn't have really survived it all, especially not with the guilt of being the only survivor of her games. Meanwhile, Peeta would go along with it all just like Finnick. Allow himself to be a charming stud with endless lovers who paints portraits of a faceless girl who haunts him endlessly. To survive how he can best; by his charms. And they'd find their way to each other. They always do.

It's why I like to think Annie and Katniss become such close friends after the war. I think they see themselves in each other, and there's a deep peace in that for them.

Anyways. Just a thought.
