HE IS SO CUTE
HC: Bender kept the robot fox as a second emotional support animal next to the turtle he rescued in "crimes of the hot", the fox basically knows when Bender is going to have an attack and such and will let Bender cuddle up to him and hold him like a stuffed animal
The fox is very protective of Bender, he didn't really want Fry coming near the robot because he thought the man would hurt him

(SPOILERS if you haven't seen the show yet):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mxy knocks over a display case that contains the Helmet of Fate. The mystical, god containing item, makes its first appearance, along with Doctor Fate, in More Fun Comics #55 (1940) the panels were done by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman. The Helmet of Fate is the one controlling the body as it contains the god, Nabu, the Lord of Order. The helmet grants anyone who wears it magical powers and the mantle of the Doctor Fate. Usually the person most associated with the it is Kent Nelson but recent comics had Khalid Nassour take up the Doctor Fate name.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next we see Mxy pass by the Cosmic Rod of Starman/Stargirl. In the
comics the original owner of the Cosmic Rod was Ted Knigh, the original Starman. The Cosmic Rod he wielded was about the size of a flashlight. It wasn't until Starman #4 (1994) (W: James Robinson, P: Tony Harris, I: Wade Von Grawbadger, C: Gregory Wright, L: John Workman) that his son, Jack Knight took the new and improved Cosmic Rod that his father made and used it for himself to take up the Starman name. The staff would then get passed on to Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl who at the time took up the name Star-Spangled Kid, when Jack retired the Starman identity to raise his kid. Courtney took up the Starman name as Stargirl and used the Cosmic Rod to carry on the name. The Cosmic Rod gives its wielder flight and energy projection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. Mxyzptlk then passes over a flight ring in the display. Very good homage to the Legion of Superheroes. Originally the LoSH wore belts to allow their members to fly, but Brainiac 5 was able to make flight rings so they can be less encumbered by the belts as seen in the panel from Adventure Comics #329 (1965) (W: Jerry Seigel, P&I: Jim Mooney, L: David Huffine). The LoSH are a group of young superheroes from the 31st century who are from various parts of the galaxy that fight evil as a team. The group was inspired by reading the history of what Superman did and they want to uphold his ideals and legacy. If they do show up in the show I'll definitely talk more about them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In another display we see the Soultaker Sword. The sword is associated with Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana. It and Katana make their first debut in the Brave and the Bold 200 (1983) (W: Mike Barr, P&I: Jim Aparo, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Jim Aparo). The sword was forged by Muramasa, who imbued it with magical properties where whoever kills with the sword, steals the souls of the victim's. Tatsu's husband and children were unfortunately slain by the sword, wielded by her brother-in-law and Tatsu has since then taken the sword and use it to avenged those who were slain by him. Because of the swords magical properties, it can be used to harm Kryptonians. Yes magic is a weakness for Superman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we cut back to the League of Loises ship, Jalana goes Flamebird on everyone and name drops Comet. This is a very good homage to Comet the Super-Horse. Comet made his first debut in Adventure Comics 293 (1962) (W: Jerry Seigel, P: Curt Swan, I: George Klein, L: Milt Snapinn) Comet, along with Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, and Beppo the Super-Monkey, formed the Legion of Super-Pets to save the Legion of Superheroes and Superboy from Brain-Globes of Rambat. Give Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow a read if you want to check out a really cool Comet story.
Tumblr media
Krypton gets a name drop, Superman's home planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone on the MAwS team is a Kingdom Hearts fan.
Tumblr media
Kryptonite is finally introduced in the show, the most well-known weakness of Superman's. Fun fact Kryptonite made its first appearance not in the comics but on the Adventures of Superman radio show in 1943. It wasn't until 6 years later in 1949 that Kryptonite is introduced in the comics in Superman #61.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the League of Loises HQ we see MAwS Lois and Mxy walk down the hall with holographic projections of various Loises in the DC multiverse. The one on your left is obviously Lois Prime aka Fleischer Studios Lois the one on your right is Superman the Animated Series Lois. The one next to StAS Lois is Superwoman from Action Comics #60 (1943). The issue was created by Jerry Seigel and George Roussos where Lois dreams of having Superman's powers and saving the day.
Tumblr media
As Mxy searches for his hat we see him open up a cache of various weapons that the Loises have collected. Some of them are pretty recognizable like the Card Captor Sakura staff that's by Mxy's head, Guts's giant sword from Berserk above Mxy on the second shelf from the bottom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the episode wraps up we see MAwS lois activate the data sphere she took from the headquarters and sees evil Supermen tearing up the city. The first we see is an homage to Overman from Animal Man #23 (1990) (W: Peter Milligan, P: Chas Truog, I: Mark Farmer, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza) and the second is designed after Justice Lords Superman from the Justice League cartoon.
Overman is from a world where all superheroes are part of the government and each one is a clone from him. Justice Lords Superman is from the two-parter episode "A Better World" where his Flash died, Superman kills President Lex Luthor in retaliation and he and the Justice League become dictators. Gotta admit Superman does look pretty cool in that suit.
That will be it for this week's episodes Easter Eggs and references. If you made it this far down the post and want to see the other MAwS Easter Eggs and references post you can find them here:

They're running in teams because there are still too many of them for one poll and I was OTL. I'll just make them duke it out individually later.
Also no I'm not including Barry, Wally, or Bart because of my last poll. I should have expected the Bart sweep, so now we're giving our love to the less appreciated speedsters.
Owen still counts as a speedster in my heart (He's Meloni's son and has a connection to a long line of speedsters. He counts.) You can't convince me otherwise.

Here’s a sneak peek into what I’ve done for one of the prompts for Dndads Halloween Week! Sons & Sonsability spoilers, and canon typical mentions of violence, so it’s going behind a read more ❤️
Miss Elizabeth Mothman hadn’t considered the varying other delights of the 21st Century before this day. She and her beautiful, clever, elegant husband, Lady Jane Rogan, had spent many wonderful hours maiming and torturing and murdering and slaughtering “involuntary celibates” or, as Jane informed her to both their delights, “incels.” Billionaires, too, made wonderful game, even better than a fox hunt! But on this day, Tuesday the 31st of this month of October, in the Year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-three, Jane had surprised Lizzie by introducing her to Hallowe’en, especially to festive costumes, and then most especially to the “slutty” category of the thing.

A project 3000 years in the making: every episode of Futurama ranked in increasing order of sci-fi, from earthiest to spaciest
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tier 10: Insulting - These episodes are hardly even sci-fi. They just address realistic situations in a hardly even futuristic setting.
Tumblr media
138. Stench and Stenchibility - The earthiest episode. It doesn't even feel like a Futurama. It feels like a "King of the Hill" that wasn't selling, so the script people crossed out the name "Dale" and replaced it with "Zoidberg".
137. Three Hundred Big Boys
Tumblr media
136. The Luck of the Fryish - I hate the flashback episodes. They defeat the purpose of the show.
135. How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back
134. A Leela of Her Own
133. Zapp Gets Cancelled
132. I, Roommate
Tumblr media
Tier 9: Antiquated - These episodes are better at employing 4th-millennium technology, but their plots are still unmistakably 3rd-millennium.
131. That's Lobstertainment!
Tumblr media
130. Naturama - It doesn't even use technology. The only reason it isn't completely below the scale whatsoever is that it's implied the narrator is from Omicron Persei 8.
129. Future Stock
128. The 30% Iron Chef
127. The Silence of the Clamps
126. Attack of the Killer App
125. Bender Should Not Be Allowed on Television
Tumblr media
Tier 8: Earthy - While incredibly down-to-earth, these episodes do have one pretty important bit that makes them qualify as sci-fi, like a robot Santa or a head transplant.
124. Jurassic Bark
Tumblr media
123. Yo Leela Leela - It is nearly my favorite episode, no doubt there - but let's face it. Change a few things, and it could easily happen in this era.
122. Raging Bender
121. Rage Against the Vaccine
120. Xmas Story
Tumblr media
119. The Route of All Evil - It's the 31st century, but there are still newspapers????
118. The Impossible Stream
117. Put Your Head on My Shoulders
116. Fry and the Slurm Factory
Tumblr media
Tier 7: Humble - These stories are a little futuristic, but they still feel plain for their day.
115. Bender Gets Made
114. Cold Warriors
Tumblr media
113. Saturday Morning Fun Pit - Mostly grounded in the 1980s, but spared from a lower tier because it does have clones and lasers and the like.
112. The Cyber House Rules
111. Bendless Love
Tumblr media
110. Near-Death Wish - The expensive panoramic bits were pretty epic, however.
109. The Lesser of Two Evils
108. 31st Century Fox
Tumblr media
Tier 6: Allegorical - These episodes use future crap as a metaphorical stand-in for present crap.
107. Bend Her
106. Into the Wild Green Yonder
105. A Big Piece of Garbage
104. Proposition Infinity
103. The Cryonic Woman
102. Mars University
101. Bendin' in the Wind
100. Love's Labours Lost in Space
99. A Head in the Polls
98. Children of a Lesser Bog
97. The Futurama Holiday Spectacular
96. A Flight to Remember
95. Fun on a Bun
94. Lethal Inspection
Tumblr media
Tier 5: Type-Zero - Pretty standard sci-fi plots, unremarkable in their remarkability.
93. Anthology of Interest I
92. A Pharaoh to Remember
91. The Problem with Popplers
90. T.: The Terrestrial
89. Viva Mars Vegas
88. The Inhuman Torch
87. Amazon Women in the Mood
86. The Deep South
85. The Mutants Are Revolting
84. A Fishful of Dollars
83. Where No Fan Has Gone Before
82. Leela's Homeworld
Tumblr media
Tier 4: Techie - Here's where it gets fun. These are the first plots to get out of this world. (As a bonus, we've hit the median point!)
81. The Tip of the Zoidberg
80. Fry and Leela's Big Fling
79. That Darn Katz!
78. Murder on the Planet Express
77. When Aliens Attack
76. The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings
75. Space Pilot 3000
74. A Clone of My Own
73. The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz
72. Where the Buggalo Roam
71. The Beast with a Billion Backs
70. How The West Was 1010001
69. Brannigan, Begin Again
68. The Farnsworth Parabox
67. A Taste of Freedom
66. Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?
65. Less than Hero
64. Spanish Fry
63. The Sting
62. The Bots and the Bees
Tumblr media
61. Meanwhile
60. Related to Items You've Viewed - It feels like it should be a tier-6, but just isn't. There is no mathematical explanation for this.
59. The Butterjunk Effect
Tumblr media
Tier 3: Otherworldly: The epitome of Futurama. These have the ideal blend of science and fiction.
Tumblr media
58. Fry Am Fry Is the Egg Man - Grammar, Stanley.
57. Parasites Regained
56. The Prince and the Product
55. Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch
54. Mother's Day
53. The Series Has Landed
52. Decision 3012
51. Hell Is Other Robots
50. A Tale of Two Santas
49. Anthology of Interest II
48. Bender's Game
47. Insane in the Mainframe
46. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela
45. War Is the H-Word
Tumblr media
44. I Know What You Did Next Xmas - A ponderance: does this episode nullify "The Late Philip J. Fry", now that they can go back in time the easy way?
43. Crimes of the Hot
Tumblr media
Tier 2: Spacey - Mind-bending and heart-warping, these shows are good enough to make you (very, very temporarily) stop wishing Matt Groening would die.
42. A Farewell to Arms
41. Parasites Lost
40. Game of Tones
39. Overclockwise
38. Zapp Dingbat
37. Godfellas
36. The Thief of Baghead
35. Free Will Hunting
34. My Three Suns
Tumblr media
33. Leela and the Genestalk - Fun side note: At first, it didn't used to occur to me that this episode was pronounced "JEEN-stalk". I'd been pronouncing it "JEN-ə-stalk", like the way it's pronounced in words like genetic, genesis, or generate.
32. The Why of Fry
31. Roswell that Ends Well
30. Calculon 2.0
29. Assie Come Home
28. Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences
27. All the Presidents' Heads
26. Forty Percent Leadbelly
Tumblr media
25. Möbius Dick - Some episodes are ranked so low only because there are so many that rank higher than them.
24. I Second that Emotion
23. The Day the Earth Stood Stupid
22. The Duh-Vinci Code
21. Obsoletely Fabulous
20. Fear of a Bot Planet
Tumblr media
Tier 1: Unreal - Creativity personified; these stories are chariots to the stars, moving so fast that they make the other nine tiers appear to stand still.
19. Ghost in the Machines
18. Neutopia
17. 2-D Blacktop
16. Law and Oracle
15. Love and Rocket
14. Rebirth
13. A Bicyclops Built for Two
12. I Dated a Robot
11. Bender's Big Score
10. The Six Million Dollar Mon
9. A Clockwork Origin
8. The Honking
7. Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles
6. Reincarnation
5. The Late Philip J. Fry
Tumblr media
4. All the Way Down - Infinitely better than I expected from a Hulu episode.
Tumblr media
3. The Prisoner of Benda - Nothing says sci-fi like inventing a whole new math equation just to give your story a proper ending.
2. Time Keeps on Slippin'
Tumblr media
1. Benderama - The spaciest episode. Now this is what it is all about: half-sized clones and microscopic microbrewing and sensitive giants.
Other notes:
The spaciest season is season 6 (weighing in at a high tier-2), and the earthiest is season 2 (a low tier-5).
This is intended as a ranking of the episodes in order of earthiness to spaciness, not as a ranking of my opinion on the episodes. A ranking of my opinion is over here.
Drafting this list took all night, and preparing it took all morning.

How Murdoch steamrolled Tucker
LUCIAN K. TRUSCOTT IV ::  APR 25, 2023
Rupert Murdoch is 92 years old, and everyone just finished making fun of his brief engagement to conservative radio host Lesley Ann Smith, the ex-wife of California railroad heir John B. Huntington.  The engagement lasted just two weeks.  Murdoch has been married four times, the last time to Jerry Hall, model and ex-wife of Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger.  That marriage lasted six years.  Murdoch reportedly told Hall he was divorcing her in an email.
Murdoch’s marital history is particularly interesting when you consider his recent divorce from Fox host Tucker Carlson.  That’s the way I think of Carlson’s departure from his seven-year career at Fox.  When Rupert decides it’s over, it’s over.  Here’s an excerpt from his email to his former wife: “Jerry, sadly I’ve decided to call an end to our marriage,” The Guardian reported. “We have certainly had some good times, but I have much to do.”
You get that?  It was good while it lasted, six years with those cameras flashing at the world’s wealthiest media-mogul with his supermodel on his arm, but now he was finished.  Moving on.  Busy man.
You don’t want to get on the bad side of Rupert Murdoch.  You don’t even want to be on his good side, because as his marriages and latest engagement prove, once he decides it’s time to pull the ripcord, you’re in the wind.
It’s been the same with his business empire.  It’s easy to forget that Murdoch was once just an Australian newspaper owner with big eyes to get off that gigantic island-continent and make his way in the wider world.  His first big move, way back in the 60’s, was to expand into Great Britain, buying the News of the World and the Sun.  Next was New York City, where he established a beachhead in 1976 by buying New York Magazine and the Village Voice in a hostile takeover.  I wrote about that battle for the late-lamented New Times magazine, and I have to say that I watched slack jawed as Murdoch steamrolled Clay Felker, the magazine genius who had created New York Magazine and then combined it with the downtown alternative paper I had worked for, the Voice.  Murdoch charmed, threatened, and walked over or past the board of New York Magazine, getting one after another of them on his side until he was able to, in a single sweep of paperwork and investment banking magic, make Felker’s mini-empire his.  The New York Post was next, followed by his purchase of the prestigious London broadsheet, The Times.
He became an American citizen in 1985 and set out on another buying spree, this time buying Twentieth Century Fox.  He used the Fox brand to buy up a small television network, Metromedia, which he transformed into the Fox channel.  In the early 90’s, the Fox channel began carrying original programing.  Then he formed the British broadcasting company, BSkyB.  In 1996, Murdoch started Fox News on cable, and in 2007, his holding company, News Corporation, bought the Wall Street Journal, which he had coveted since the days when he took over New York Magazine.
If you owned anything that published in print, made movies for the big screen, or broadcast shows on network or cable television, you were a target.  Murdoch hit more than he missed.  By last year, he was worth $21.7 billion and was the world’s 31st wealthiest man.
Fox News became a cash cow for the Murdoch empire, taking in about $12 billion a year in recent years.  It’s money Murdoch earned by feeding a ravenous horde of conservative viewers a steady diet of right-wing red meat around the clock.  Fox News long ago ceased being a real news network and simply went into the business of raw propaganda with its wink-and-a-nod motto, “Fair and Balanced.”
Tucker Carlson became one of the channel’s biggest revenue generators with his nightly spew of conspiracy theories, racist garbage like “the great replacement theory,” paeons to authoritarianism with his worship of Hungary’s Victor Orban – Carlson even took his show there for an entire week in 2021, and produced a rabidly antisemitic documentary on the country last year called “Hungary vs. Soros: Fight for Civilization.”
All of this was fine and dandy for Rupert Murdoch as long as Tucker kept the bucks coming.  Carlson warmly embraced Trump’s Big Lie, beginning when Trump lost the election in 2020.  The Big Lie was a feature of his show almost nightly for the next two-plus years.  Carlson’s show featured many of the right-wing loons who made the allegations against Dominion Voting Systems that were defamatory – Rudolph Giuliani, Sidney Powell and many others.  Tucker sat there and listened to them spew their lies night after night, nodding and giving his patented look of puzzled curiosity.  But asking questions and looking puzzled wasn’t a defense when Dominion sued for defamation.  That lawsuit ended up costing Murdoch a whole lot of money, $787.5 million to be exact, when Fox News settled the suit without a court fight last week.
There has been a ton of speculation about why Carlson was fired yesterday morning, much of it settling on emails written by Carlson that were revealed by the Dominion suit.  Many of his emails were embarrassing to the network, and thus to Murdoch, as Carlson wrote repeatedly that he didn’t believe a word of the garbage he was putting out on his show about the Big Lie that Trump won the election.
The L.A. Times reported yesterday that sources inside Fox say that Murdoch himself was upset by some of Carlson’s emails that were not released by the Dominion lawsuit because they didn’t bear on its defamation claim.  These emails instead gave an insight into what Carlson thought about Fox management, according to the L.A. Times.
“Fox management” is one man:  Rupert Murdoch.  Carlson is said to have written some nasty stuff about lesser Fox figures such as CEO Suzanne Scott.  Murdoch doesn’t care about Suzanne Scott.  He doesn’t care if Tucker Carlson thinks Scott is incompetent or unlikable.  What Rupert Murdoch cares about is being considered a Big Man Media Mogul and making money.
The Dominion lawsuit, much of it caused by the statements made on Carlson’s nightly show, brought Murdoch low in the eyes of his Big Man Media Mogul contemporaries, the guys – and they’re almost all guys – who show up every year at Herbert Allen’s Sun Valley Conference of media Big Men.  It’s a kind of summer camp in the mountains of Idaho for media moguls, among whom Murdoch was arguably the biggest.  Herbert Allen is the CEO of the investment bank, Allen & Company.  Murdoch goes way back with Herbert Allen and his investment bank.  He and his company handled Murdoch’s takeover of New York Magazine way back in 1976.  Murdoch doesn’t like it when you do something that lowers him in the eyes of “Herbie” Allen, as he is called, or any of the other media Big Men.
And he especially doesn’t like it when he can put a name on a loss of $787.5 million.  That name is Tucker Carlson, who thought that he was a Big Man because of the adoring hordes who watched his show every night and the millions he was paid for attracting them.  But he wasn’t a Big Man.  He was a worker bee in the sprawling Murdoch media empire, and now he’s a worker bee who got squashed by the Murdoch steamroller, as so many have been squashed before him.
Murdoch still owns the Fox empire.  Tucker Carlson owns his trust fund check as an heir to Swanson Frozen Foods, however much he managed to put away when he was riding high in the 8 o’clock slot on Fox News, and whatever he can squeeze out of Fox in his so-called exit package.  And he owns the stack of bills that are piling up from lawyers representing him in the sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former Fox producer Abby Grossman, because there is no doubt that in firing him, Rupert Murdoch severed Fox from Carlson in the Grossman lawsuit and is no longer paying his legal bills.
I often see businessmen like Murdoch referred to in the press as killers.  But Murdoch isn’t a killer.  He’s a taker.  He sees something he thinks he wants, like a magazine or a newspaper or a studio or a network, and he takes it and then he takes all the money it brings in.
Murdoch paid the legal fees for his four ex-wives, but he wasn’t married to Tucker Carlson.  Murdoch was once his employer, and he was happy to take the money Tucker earned for him, but he’s a busy man, and he moved on.

April fools day
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All fools day first of April April fools day or all fools day, the first day of April when it is customary to play practical jokes on people, causing them to believe something that isn’t true or to go on a fruitless errand. its origin, story, curiosities and examples. April is the cruellest month, breeding Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing Memory and desire, stirring Dull roots with spring rain. Winter kept us warm, covering Earth in forgetful snow, feeding A little life with dried tubers. T.S. Eliot Sweet April showers, do spring May flowers. English proverb April comes in with his hack and his bill, And sets a flower on every hill. English proverb An April flood carries away the frog and her brood. English proverb April weather, Rain and sunshine, both together. English proverb En avril, ne te découvre pas d’un fil. French Proverb Aprile, apriletto, tutti i giorni un goccetto! Italian proverb April macht was er will. German proverb Abril lluvioso hace a mayo hermoso. Spanish proverb April, fourth month of the Gregorian calendar year. It has 30 days. The Romans gave this month the name Aprilis, derived from aperire (“to open”), probably because it is the season when buds begin to open; it was called Eostre (Easter) month by the Anglo-Saxons. Playing tricks on the first day of April is a custom among European peoples.

First of April Fool's day On April 1st you will probably be on the look-out for any possible practical jokes. If your colleagues tell you to do something slightly unusual, you might think twice before doing it. Millions of people the world over will be in a similar position. The Indians will, however, have completed their entertainment a day earlier: their Huli festival takes place on March 31st. If you do have the misfortune to be made an April fool, then you might like to take some comfort from considering the origins of this bizarre custom. April Fools’ Day or All Fools' Day, the first day of April. On this day it is customary to play practical jokes on people, causing them to believe something that isn’t true or to go on a fruitless errand. Although the origin of the custom is unknown, a common theory is that it developed as part of ancient spring festivals. April Fools’ Day jokes are generally amusing but harmless. For example, someone may give a friend the telephone number of the zoo, telling her to return a call from “Mr. Fox.” The origins of April Fools' Day are not certain, although several theories have been proposed. Before the adoption of the Gregorian calendar in 1582, the New Year was celebrated between March 25 (the old date of the spring equinox) and April 1. One of the most credited hypotheses is that, as a result of the change of calendar, not everyone got used to the change and were then referred to as the "April fools". Hence the burlesque origin of April 1. In Europe, the festivities of the first of April became customary around the end of 1500: a few years after the adoption of the new Gregorian calendar. In the France of King Charles IX and in the Germany of the Habsburgs, the tradition gets under way and then spreads in England (in the eighteenth century) and in the other European states. Legend has it that many French, opposed to this change or simply careless, continued to exchange gifts between March and April, celebrating the New Year as in the old days. Pranksters began to mock them, delivering them absurd or empty gifts during non-existent parties. In the empty gift you could find a card with the words poisson d'avril: April Fool’s Day, in French.
Tumblr media
All fools day article Poisson d'avril, or pesce d'Aprile in Italian, yeah, but what does fish have to do with it? There’s an explanation for that, too, and it’s that fish are easily hooked. How the victims of pranks "bite" easily to tease. It must be said, however, that sometimes it is really difficult not to fall for it: also because the imagination has no limits and the pranks do not even, in fact they can pass from the classrooms of schools, playgrounds, television and websites. In Italy the custom of 1 April is recent: it dates back to the years between 1860 and 1880. The first city to welcome the French habit was Genoa, where the passion for April jokes landed in its lively port. The tradition was rooted first among the middle and upper classes, then took root among the rest of the population. Therefore April 1 is recognized as a day for pranks in Germany, France, Great Britain, the United States, Canada, and elsewhere. In India, the last day of the feast of Huli, March 31, is regarded as a day for mischief. In France, an April fool’s prank is called a poisson d'Avril (April fish), and in Scotland it is an April gowk or cuckoo. In the UK, jokes and tricks can be played up until noon on 1 April. After midday it's considered bad luck to play a trick. Anyone who forgets this and tries a joke in the afternoon becomes an 'April Fool' themselves. Some newspapers, TV channels and well-known companies publish false news stories to fool people on 1 April. One of the earliest examples of this was in 1957 when a programme on the BBC, the UK's national TV channel, broadcast a report on how spaghetti grew on trees. The film showed a family in Switzerland collecting spaghetti from trees and many people were fooled into believing it, as in the 1950s British people didn't eat much pasta and many didn't know how it was made! A few years ago, for example, the famous English astronomer and radio host Patrick Moore announced instead that an exceptional alignment of Pluto and Jupiter planned for 9:47 on the morning of April 1 would have canceled the effects of Earth’s gravity, and all the inhabitants of the planet would start floating like astronauts in space!
Tumblr media
First of April Story and Traditions Most British people wouldn't fall for the spaghetti trick today, but in 2008 the BBC managed to fool their audience again with their Miracles of Evolution trailer, which appeared to show some special penguins that had regained the ability to fly. Two major UK newspapers, The Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mirror, published the 'important story' on their front pages. The gullible British swallowed it, as they say, "hook, line and sinker". So, what kind of jokes do people play? Well, a simple example would be telling your friend that their shoelaces are undone. Then, when they bend down to do them up, you shout, 'April Fool!', and they realise their shoelaces are fine. Maybe it's not your kind of humour, but watch out, there's always someone who will find it hilarious! In Ireland, a popular prank is to send someone on a 'fool's errand'. The victim is sent to deliver a letter, supposedly asking for help. When the person receives the letter, they open it, read it and tell the poor messenger that they will have to take the letter to another person. This continues and the victim ends up taking the message to several different people until someone feels sorry for them and shows them what the letter says: 'Send the fool to someone else.' April Fool's Day fans say it encourages fun and laughter, and one study found that it reduces stress and therefore could be good for your heart. Other people point out that it can have negative consequences, like confusion, worry or wasting time and resources. In France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and French-speaking areas of Canada and Switzerland, the 1 April tradition is known as the 'April Fish'. A common joke is to try to stick a paper fish onto a victim's back without being noticed. The origins of the April fools joke are somewhat obscure. The first references in English literature are to be found in the seventeenth century. It would appear that there was some connection between the April fool and the first cuckoo. The victims of such jokes were referred to as "April gowks": this is a northern dialect word which means cuckoo. The gowk, or cuckoo, was the unfortunate person who was sent on a false errand. The English even had a proverb for the occasion: "First of April, hunt the gowk. You may send a fool whither you will".
Tumblr media
April fools day jokes In modern times the advent of the telephone has added a new dimension to the false errand. One April 1st back in the 1950's a Mr. Fox arrived at work and found a message on his desk telling him to ring Primrose 2323 in order to speak to a Mr. Lion. When Mr. Fox dialled the number and asked to speak to the fictitious Mr. Lion, he was surprised to find that he had rung London Zoo. A spokesperson for Dublin Zoo said staff had lost their sense of humour' after they received more than 100,000 calls asking for invented names such as Mr C Lyons, Anna Conda and G Raffe! The callers were victims of a phone hoax, who contacted the zoo after receiving a text message encouraging them to make the call. The fact that April is the month in which such pranks are played undoubtedly has something to do with the change of season. The first of April marks the arrival of spring: this causes many people to indulge in folly, romantic or otherwise. It is perhaps not surprising that April 1st has seen practical jokes of a romantic nature. William Congreve's play, "The Old Bachelor" (1693), tells the story of "one of love's april fools." Heartwell, an aging woman-hater", falls in love with Silvia, the mistress of another. The hapless" Heartwell is fooled into marrying her and thus becomes the laughing-stock of all his friends. A charming classical reference to April fools can be found in the Reverend Brewer's "Dictionary of Phrase and Fable", originally published in 1870. Brewer tells the mythological tale" of Proserpina and Pluto, god of the underworld. Legend has it that Proserpina was picking daffodils in the Elysian meadows one April morning when Pluto suddenly appeared. He promptly carried her off to the underworld where he made her his queen. Proserpina's mother, Ceres (the goddess of core, appropriately enough) heard her daughter's cries and went in search of her echo. But her search was in vain: Ceres went on "a fool's errand". Brewer examines other explanations of the origins of April fools. There is one theory that it may originate from the mockery trial of Jesus in which he was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate: there is certainly a connection with April as the trial occurred a few days before Easter. I am happy to say that Brewer rejects this theory as unconvincing. On April Fool's Day 1998, the American hamburger chain Burger King announced that it had created a left-handed hamburger. The advert for the 'new product' explained that all the ingredients had been rotated 180 degrees so that it was more comfortable for left-handed people to pick up and eat. The following day, Burger King admitted that this advertisement had been a hoax, but said that thousands of customers had gone to restaurants across the USA asking for a left-handed burger.
Tumblr media
Poisson d'Avril  Pesce d'Aprile Whatever the origins of April fools, its character has undoubtedly changed in modern times. In the first place, it has lost its romantic element. Nowadays amorous pranks are played on February 14th when lovers, prospective lovers and mere saboteurs send anonymous Valentine cards. Secondly, people are becoming less susceptible to practical jokes. As early as 1842 a certain General Thompson warned of the dangers of mass literacy: "It will be difficult to make April fools of a whole people that can read and write." It is ironic that the age of telecommunications, which has increased the possibilities of practical jokes, has also increased people's insensitivity to them. After the great success of the spaghetti documentary there followed a spate of television and newspaper hoaxes in Britain on April 1st. Even the British got the hang of it after a while: last year's April 1st documentary, in which the B.B.C. announced that St. Paul's Cathedral was to be dismantled brick by brick and moved to the countryside, was something of a flop. If you want a practical joke to work in the 1980's, it is better to organise it on another day. As we have seen, in France, as in Italy, the expression poisson d'avril is used. In English-speaking countries, such as the United Kingdom and America, instead, it is called April fool’s day ("The Day of the April fool"), where the term "fool" reminds the Fool, the jester of the medieval courts, thus emphasizing the playful connotation of the party. Finally, in Germany, Aprilscherz is more simply the "April Prank". In the Highlands of Scotland the April Fool lasts two days, in the second, the Taily Day, you enjoy to attach on the back of the unlucky (fools or gawls) a sign with the words "Kick me!" (Give me a kick). In Portugal, the days dedicated to pranks are Sunday and Monday before Lent, in which whole packs of flour are thrown on friends! India also has its April Fools' Day. However, it falls a day earlier, on March 31. On that date we celebrate the Huli festival to celebrate spring and make fun of everyone.
Tumblr media
April is Earth month But some people have always had a tendency to suspect any information that is given on April 1st. In 1964, for example, there was a boat strike in Venice on the day in question. A group of perceptive Dutch tourists were at first amused and later angered by this news. Yes, it was a very funny joke, but there was no need to keep it up the whole day. In fact the strike was genuine. It was a cruel twist of fate that of all the days of the year in which the Venetians could organise a boat strike, they chose April fools day. Everywhere, in Europe and around the world, April 1 is still celebrated a little Carnival! What's more in the era of 'fake news' it's often hard on a normal day of the year to work out when we're being tricked into believing something that isn't true, but on April Fool's Day you need to be even more alert. No one knows exactly how the tradition started, but there are plenty of people who enjoy this light-hearted day and are happy to keep the tradition alive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-IeEV1hlLc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-wLyeKINJg Read the full article

YAYY!! I finished the fox hunt aftermath one shot!
Sum: Bender makes it back to Planet Express but his program ends up shutting him down forcefully because of the damages done to him
The crew is worried to say the least of it all...
Everything hurts. He was pretty sure his wiring was messed up. It was hard to walk just on one footcup and he had took wiring out of it just to set up a trap for the hunter.
His trigger finger just kept falling off and didn't stay on as well. Concerned cries from the robot fox in his hands were heard, the animal nuzzling up against Benders chest and whimpered. The said robot trembled.
Then they were at Planet Express, Fry was carefully keeping his best friend balanced so he could get there. Leela holds the door open for them and when they were insides she lets go and rushes to the meeting table and calling an emergency. The whole entire crew came into the scene, but the fox was the first thing they saw. Bender was behind the mutant, he wasn't visible to the eyes of the crew.
So when they all angrily yelled and stampeded to get to the animal, he braces himself, refusing to run again. Then everything went silent. The anger went away.
Benders optics opened to look at them as he produced a pathetic glitching sound from his voice box. They saw the injuries. "I-i...I-...nothing i-its wr-wro-wRoNg, m-mea-meatBaGs..."
Clearly, something was. He sounded absolutely broken. When the fox attacked the hunter, it accidentally caused the guy to pull the trigger on the gun and it hit Bender right in his voice module. Fry frowns as Bender nearly toppled onto the floor but carefully bends his knees to keep the robot upright.
"Shh, honey, shh" Fry hushes his boyfriend to which the bending unit could only whine in response to it. He was just in so much pain.
Farnsworth came up and inspected the damages, "what on earth happened!?" He asked quite loudly. This caused Bender to emit a high pitched frequency of a screech and cringe. They all looked at him shocked. Bender would usually refuse to be seen in such a vulnerable state and deny that he was scared and hurt. However, he couldn't do anything at this point.
So the professor quieted down and asked again, gently this time, "what happened?". Leela looks at him and sighs, "we went after the fox and well...", She frowns with worry in her single eye, "let's just say they turned a fox hunt into a robot hunt..."
Everyone gasps audibly. "Bender was splurfing hunted!?" Amy asks, worry filling her voice. Bender leans against the orange haired man's chest and whimpers at a low octave. "I know, sweetheart, I know..." Fry responds to the action. Then he looks up and speaks, "don't worry, the hunter got what was coming".
The crew was relieved to hear that. Hermes goes ahead and gets out a clip board, writing down the injuries he saw on the poor little bot. One missing footcup, wires missing from his broken and hollow leg tube, trigger finger missing, on his hand looked like splinter marks and dents, he was dented quite roughly, he had sharp claw marks all over him and he also seemed to have porcupine needles punctured into his metal.
They managed to fix him up, carefully and quickly giving him a run over afterwards. Everything was back in order. Bender shuddered on the couch. The fox suddenly leaned down and dives up into the cushions, it's black paws then going to climb on the robots lap and curl up into a ball to sleep.
Bender sighs contently as he pets the electronic animal calmly. He appreciated the little guy. This fox actually helped him, it cared for him, made him feel protected and safe. Safer than he had in a long time.
Fry kisses Benders cheek and traces a thumb over Benders three digits as he gives the robots hand a gentle squeeze, "hey, buddy, you okay now?" He asks with a soft loving voice. Bender couldn't get enough of the guy. The robot does a nod motion and Fry smiles sweetly, "whats your booze level at, baby boy?"
Bender checks and then speaks up, "98%". Fry nods, Bender was fueled up enough, that was good. Fry gives his metal boyfriend another peck on the cheek and one on the forehead.
Zoidberg suddenly comes in with tickets that he found in the trash, lucky day for him they guessed, "friends! I found tickets to a zoo, mini golf and a camp!"
The robots optics widen and he was hyperventilating. He couldn't be there! He couldn't! The forests were too much, the animals were too much, the fact there were hunters in camps were too much!
The animal on his lap whines and got the attention of the crew. They looked at Bender shocked and when Amy touched him, Bender snapped, "STOP! NO! NO! NO! I CAN'T GO! I CAN'T! THEY'LL HUNT ME DOWN AGAIN! NO! STOP IT! I DON'T WANNA BE HURT AGAIN!"
Their heart's break. Bender never was this bad before, their eyes frozen wide and mouths agape. Fry rushes over and hushes his boyfriend, being quiet and gentle, "hey, hey, look at me" he says, "shh, bud, shh, look at me, okay?"
Benders unneeded breath hitched suddenly and he listens to Fry. His optics peering at the humans eyes. "You're not there, we won't go, shh, we won't, we'll have a nice quiet evening here and watch TV with food and snacks and alcohol, okay? Shh, it's all over now, that guy won't ever hurt you again"
The robot felt tears rolling down his optics, he must be crying right now and a sense of embarrassment filled him. He was too sensitive to care at the moment though.
"Yo-you promise, meatbag?" He asks his boyfriend and Fry squeezes his metal hand gently once again as he gives Bender a kiss on the mouthplate this time, "I promise"
Bender calmed down and let Fry and the fox nuzzle against them, they turned on a movie, turned the lights off, got popcorn, drinks and other junk and took their spots. They all had a sweet loving afternoon with Bender finally safe.

Despite being twins, Cammie and Brodie weren’t actually born on the same day – in fact, they weren’t even born in the same century. Brodie was born on the 31st of December 1999 while Cammie was born on the 1st of January 2000.
Fox is left-handed. Her father and his best friend took great pains to try figuring out left-handed things themselves so nothing would be odd for her – hence why when people only model things right-handed she gets a little confused.
Hal is a lot more modest than people think. Despite the airs he gives off as a royal, he mostly underplays the skills he has with magic. Partly, he does this in the hopes of making his friends feel better when they are having doubts about their own skills.
Robbo has an appreciation for magic tricks because there’s a kindness in the trickery they present people with. He mostly knows card tricks, but he’s willing to pull them out whenever somebody needs a slight distraction from things.
For a time, Ross used to keep a dream journal in the hopes of fighting off nightmares. He thought if he wrote them down, they wouldn’t come back. But, after a bout of a recurring nightmare where everyone he loved was gone, Ross stopped and instead started talking to people about his fears instead.
