Top 10 mechanisms songs that you can get away with playing at a retailers without too many side eyes

Disclaimer: this is not a list of the best mechanisms songs/the ones I think deserve to go "mainstream", they're just the ones that would blend in the best

1. Sirens

This song is probably the mechanisms' least "centered" song. It doesn't mention any characters, it has no narration, and out of context it just sounds like A Song that you might hear on the radio. Sirens is to the mechanisms as you're the one that I want is to grease, you know?

2. Trial by song

THIS one. It's in the same category to me as Sirens; you can listen to it by itself and not suspect much. Unlike Sirens which can be completely separated and still make sense, this one is more like a whole new world from Aladdin. There are parts that make it obvious that it's from a larger whole, but if you just so happen to catch the "safe" parts you won't suspect much.

Points were deducted due to Mr. Soldier's unique vocals. (Unique as in not very common in mainstream music)

3. Empty trail

This is no offense to Dr. La Cognizzi, but sometimes when she sings it's hard to make out what she's saying, which works in her favor in these circumstances. It sounds country/rock, which help it blend in with some dad rock songs. If I remember correctly, the melody was actually taken from a Led Zeppelin song, so if you aren't paying attention to what's ACTUALLY being said you can get away with claiming it's a cover.

4. Ties that bind

Although this one does mention many plot points, many fans have stated that they had no idea what the fuck was being said until the have looked for the lyrics (myself included) this, combined with it's jazzy rythm, make it able to blend in with other songs, similarly to empty trail

5. Odin

The most "normal" song out of the entirety of The Bifrost Incident. This song made it to the top five because it has similarities with Roam by the B-52's, but had points deducted due to it clearly being about an awesome space train

6. Lost in the cosmos

This might just be personal opinion, but it sounds like a church song. You can pull off the effect of it being about earth Jesus and not space robot Jesus if you have particularly bad quality speakers and a busy store w/lots of noise. Again, the lyrics kinda give it away as to not being entirely main stream

7. Stranger

Look it's a banger, ok? Many of the lyrics could be taken as just being metaphors, but I feel like you have to squint to "see" it. Pay too much attention and shit gets a little weird. Also, points deducted because it's two men singing together and not a man and a woman, which throws a wrench into the works. At kohl's it might raise some eyebrows but in like hot topic it'll blend in a little better

8. Redeath

You would think a song about a sphoenix (space phoenix) would be lower on the list but you'd be wrong. It's a really pretty song with a good original melody, and it's something that can be drowned out by a particularly rowdy crowd. Like Stranger, it would blend in better at a hot topic than at kohl's, but only slightly.

9. Elysian Fields

The melody in Elysian Fields is taken directly from the song wayfaring stranger, which has been coverd by Jonny Cash, Ed Sheeran, Poor Man's Poison, and The Longest Johns, AS WELL HAS having been featured in the movie 1917 and in the video game The Last of Us II, which make it very recognizable. Because of this recognizability, people who know the original song may be caught off guard by hearing it in a Walmart with completely different lyrics. It was originally in 7th place, but the popularity of the original takes off many points

10. Once and future king

It's a banger, don't get me wrong, but it also very heavily and clearly mentions plot points from the album, which itself is heavily base on Aurtharian mythology; something very well known in the western world (also the names are not common at all and most haven't been in fashion in centuries). In a crowded, busy space with not very good quality speakers it could potentially blend in, but one or two names might sneak out. The only reason it's on the list is because of the instrumental outro, which sounds normal enough

Big rant alert about one piece this anime is very dear for me and im almost going to celebrate my 7th year of being interested in this silly pirate show so I thought that i should take this time to just rant about it (again)🫡

Something I really love about one piece is its weird and wacky character design and how it manages to form relationships between characters that aren’t romantic and are most of the time platonic and familial bonds with found family.The character design never gets boring to me and I get that a lot of people think the art style is ugly but I feel like I’m at that point that it’s just think of it as a charm, one piece just wouldn’t be one piece without its goofy proportions sure the animation studio sometimes overdoes it and alters a lot of the female body types a ridiculous amount but it still manages to hold a bit of charm because one piece isn’t about a battle of whose the prettiest or whose the most conventionally attractive sure boa has a whole gimmick of being the prettiest woman but it’s not her whole character she still has a lot of depth that makes her enjoyable to watch there’s a lot of characters that wouldn’t be seen as attractive in our world but are found attractive in one piece for example boa marigold is found attractive and just like Catarina Devon another character that is deemed as “unattractive or unpleasant” looking by some has a whole fan club of women who find her attractive even when she doesn’t fit into mold of beauty standard everyone is so ridiculous looking that and it feels refreshing when ridiculous characters are taken seriously and not just made to be laughed at because they’re fat or are just deemed ugly by fans or characters in the show Queen had a whole song about how he would be popular if he lost weight but he wouldn’t because he’s full of funk and muscle which I think is very meaningful you don’t have to have every character be skinny for them to be likable. a newly red haired girl with fire in her arteries and ice in her veins reaches out to her 3rd vodka diet coke of the night, fucked up on whip its. she wonders who made her like this. her parents were alcoholics, her grandma died of a drug overdose, her old best friend was an addict. she wants an escape, because the last time she could do this sober she was running on 10$ of energy drinks and 200 calories every day. the last time before that, she was eating bags of cheetos and bars of chocolate and a pint of ice cream every night. the last time before that, she was a happy kid. she was average at math and english, smart in science, and bad at talking to people. she had long shiny brown hair with the same bangs she's had her entire life, still the 2nd tallest girl, still too much for everyone to handle.

she takes another sip of her diet coke / vodka concoction, winces, and rubs her watery eyes. she gets her 40$ mascara on her face, the same one she cried off when her old friend told her in a fit of rage that she was the reason she was an addict, the same one she cried off when she was picked up in the middle of the day and driven off to a psych ward. she got it on a trip with her mom, on an off day they weren't yelling at each other. they went to the shiseido store in chinatown and bought it for 20$ more than it was worth. it was the one thing she put on every day, it reminded her that if she was quiet enough, if she made everyone happy enough, that maybe they would be nice to her.

Fashion choices not exactly important - gothic fashion is a countercultural statement against popular notions of ‘good femininity’ - it is more important for people who have had faced trouble with the philosophy/psychology of popular conformity (aka me) - you’ve never been faced with shunning for being an ‘imperfect female’ so of course you don’t care about gothic fashion - it’s all about a subversion of popular culture - to paraphrase, goth clothes say ‘I do not care to be your good christian woman’ - also serves to signal to people with similar ideologies it’s not so complicated love <3

You can’t help but make a fashion statement - your clothes probably signal ‘I am autistic and I don’t care about fashion’ which is perfectly okay - I prefer to be in control of what I signal sometimes ofc it doesn’t serve to be anal about it

Also body image - basically you want to like what you see in the mirror - it’s like how you prefer to see yourself shaved than not (maybe lol) - it goes like you relate better to what you see in the mirror/photos - even if it’s just a visual illusion - that’s why it’s self indulgence - with survivors of early trauma, you often feel disconnected from your body - with a numbing of your senses - ‘my body is not my own I have no agency’ - with makeup/decoration you feel like you reclaim your body step by step - since it doesn’t look so much like the person you loathe/was so helpless/whatever - you are almost someone else and your life is your own once more

‘Pretty’ is a fallacy of ambiguous language don’t even worry about it - I don’t find rocks pretty either it’s an extremely personal concept - sure it’s a visual version of cute - something you find calming/comforting - visually indulgent - like the #oddlyrelaxing videos you like - or perhaps an affirmation of your experiences since no one likes to be alone - there is no consensus

HEADCANONS FOR THE 7TH EMILY WINDSNAP BOOK *WARNING: SPOILERS*...

Aaron becomes King/Chief of Forgotten Island.

OR Ella becomes Queen/Chief of Forgotten Island, with Aaron acting as official ambassador to the outside world. Emily did say they should have a woman leader.

Neptune makes Aaron his next heir, which results in Aaron splitting his time between the Forgotten Island and Shiprock. This would also result in Neptune and Aaron becoming closer like a father and son. The way these 2 interact in the books, you would never guess that they’re family.

Neptune makes time in his busy schedule for more bonding activities with Aaron, who’s now his only living family.

Neptune erects a statue of Aurora. Either on Forgotten Island or the new island that Jeras created. That statue might become another Majesty Island tourist attraction.

Aaron makes regular visits to where Jeras and Fortuna died.

Aurora, Jeras, and Fortuna were from medieval Europe. Since Jeras has been alive for 500+ years. And the author does say Aurora’s home was based on a castle in Cornwall.

Majesty Island guests think the merfolk at first glance are just human swimmers in mermaid costumes...until they touch their tails. Or hear them talk underwater. Some humans might think the latter is just a really cool underwater trick. (This headcanon REALLLYYYY depends on the time period. If this story’s set in the early 2000s -- when the series was first written, and before mermaiding became popular -- it’s unlikely anyone would mistake the merfolk’s tails for costumes.)

Majesty Island guests taking selfies with the merfolk in this story. Since the hotel manager believed in mermaid sightings, I can believe they used that to advertise the hotel. So maybe guests come expecting mermaids and aren’t too surprised at meeting one.

Jake, being an adult, gets mistaken at Majesty Island for a professional mermaid performer. This means some people mistake his human wife for his agent or assistant.

Majesty Island might actually hire mermaid performers! So what’s gonna happen if those performers met actual merfolk like Emily? Emily might like it. As a semi-mers, Emily could relate to how the performers must switch between walking and wearing tails. And being raised human most of her life, Emily would appreciate these performers trying to make mermaids look good to humans. Meanwhile Shona and Jake, as full-time mers, would either love or hate seeing someone impersonate their kind. And how would the mermaid performers feel, meeting the very creatures they’re pretending to be?

Millie eventually expands her fortune-telling business to Majesty Island. Either building a website to provide online services, or having an office at Majesty Island itself. IIRC I think she did several odd jobs in Brightport.

Born and raised in Caldas, a little town one hour away from Medellín, Colombia, Mentalnoise’s youth was conflictive, under the gaze of a traditional Christian family, most of her identity has been denied or judged even by her most inner circle. But when injustice constantly crosses you and hypocrisy prevails in the institutions of power claiming to dictate "the world's morality", there is a voice inside that emerges with more strength to fight against that impunity. There isn’t any speech that can overshadow what we see and feel every day when we go out on the street.

It's been a year since her first best-selling NFT came to light, in a wonderfully friendly event on Tezos, Objkt4Objkt. This was an impulse and a revelation to understand her work had a place in a new market prepared to see and consume her art. Recently, she quit her job as a designer to fully dedicate herself to NFTs.

The quarantine ended up consolidating her artistic project as we know it today. Mobilized by the high flow of information during the isolation, Mental encountered several cases of corruption in her country and a society that showed its different facets from the most supportive to the most cruel. It was at that moment that the idea of the mask, the evil bunny, emerged as the structure and concept of her next pieces.

Committed to the political, social and cultural reality of her country, art allows her to express what moves her; allows her to denounce evils in society; allows her to raise her voice in social networks with impact and generate critical thinking in the spectator. In her work we discover references to Colombian popular culture, the media show generated by politicians, and the injustices that surround us, added to her own internal universe, "the mental hole".

Mental says she likes "to generate images from the noise of my mind". The windows function as an analogy about observing the outside world during isolation or a mobile phone connected to the internet in which we observe constant information as if it were a window to the world. We live with our own mental noise and externalize it in one way or another. In her case, art functions as that nexus that connects what happens emotionally inside her with an external world in constant contradiction.

Undoubtedly, her journey has made her reflect on her place in the art world, the construction of her voice and the empowerment of her message. In her pieces, every detail is thought out and shared with her peers to generate a sincere and honest debate. The questioning is not only towards others, but also inward. In her own words, "it's not just about creating art and that's it, it's about generating interaction around the art created. Talking through the images and exchanging opinions with the community.”

The w3b has allowed her to reach goals she never thought possible and to express herself freely in a collaborative environment of artists and collectors from all over the world. It is very important for her to connect with colleagues, generate feedback on her pieces and share knowledge, even though she considers that she has a "paisa English" and that this is a barrier that at the moment prevents her from expanding her interaction even further. However, this does not stop Mental in her quest for construction. Today she is part of ArChain NFT Lab, La Creme de la Creme and Tokenómeno, spaces where artists and communities from all over the world come together.

As a woman artist, lesbian and Latin American, it is very important to be able to think about the impact that the w3b can have on an artist like her. The intersectionalities as inhabitants of the so-called "third world" often make our voices invisible. The cultural impact (real and virtual) that we can generate today from this technology is something that we are just building, but we bet that it can be the ideal place of expression not only for us, but also for future generations. From the "underground" of the world, from tezos and from our own realities we build a future in which we can work, formalize, identify problems and propose solutions to our art and culture. Mental is a great companion on this path, an artist who is definitely worth getting to know, and whose passing will not be forgotten in the path of the blockchain and posterity.

It's common for an artist's first album/EP to simply be a collection of the songs they made so far and that's what this is. This isn't really an era but more just a beta test of Taylor.

But i do have a feeling that Debut tv will have the biggest amount of rerecordings as well as the biggest change in the vocals which scares me.

10th: Folklore - 1

The first of Taylor's depression decade starts with a typical COVID-19 lockdown depression yearning for a cottagecore escapism.

Following the dip of Lover and the lack of publicity due to quarantine restrictions and a surprise release made this album appear in low profile but between the times and the message of the songs it was better for it.

8th (tie): The Tortured Poets Department - 2

Despite me being fully on the Eras Tour/the rerecordings/Midnights hype train, TTPDs double album and several variants started to feel a bit too much. It just felt being the 50 kg cherry on top of the thousand flavor, million calories oversaturation dessert.

This is an adult album written by an adult woman for adults. Rawdogging real life as it is with all the problems and each problem with it's own bullshit. And also a lot more swearing than before.

Songs: Fortnight, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.

8th: (tie): Fearless - 2

The princess of the midwest waiting for her high school prince find out that she exists. That's Fearless, this album invented the cliche of removing the glasses of the shy nerdy girl to see and show the world how pretty she is.

Unlike Debut's truck country genre, being a princess in an all american high school fairytale seems to work better with her songwriting skills.

Songs: Love Story, You Belong With Me.

7th: Speak Now - 1(+2)

It makes sense for being known as the Enchanted era as this underrated album feels the least like a "Taylor Swift genre" and the most like other popular 00s grudge rock subgenres of the time, similar to Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, Paramore and Fall Out Boy (which the latter two appeared in the album).

Songs: Better Than Revenge, Electric Touch, I Can See You.

6th: Evermore - 2(+1)

Jack Antonoff once said that Taylor wrote Willow in 20 minutes it was quickly followed by the decision to make a second "COVID-19 lockdown depression yearning for a cottagecore escapism" album, and thus Evermore was born.

Honestly considering how much the two album share the theme, mv continuity, and release year. Folkmore should have been a single double album from the start.

5th: Midnights - 3(+1)

Now this is a type of depression i can relate to! culture counters culture and Midnight's more upbeat songs were perfectly made to counter Folkmore's cottagecore calmness. Beyonce released Act i Renaissance around the same time a bit after the COVID-19 pandemic because "the world needed to dance" and Taylor saw that regarding Midnights as well.

Barbara Rush, a popular leading lady in the 1950 and 1960’s has died. She was 97.

Rush died on Easter Sunday.
