Touchstarved Characters as DnD Classes

Ais

Given the existence of Ocudeus and Ais's relationship with it, Ais is an easy choice for a warlock, a person who gets their powers from a patron entity. My choice would either be The Great Old One, or The Fathomless. The both have those eldritch vibes but with slightly different emphasis. The Fathomless buts a strong emphasis on the oceanic tentacle monster, while The Great Old One has some tentacle imagery but focuses far more on the effects Eldritch beings have on the mind. Which one you think suits him more comes down to personal preference I think.

Leander

Given that magic for humans seems to largely be a learned skill, and stuff devs have said about Leander coming from a more more formal background giving him access to a proper education, Leander would 100% be a wizard. With as little information as we have about him exactly which school might be harder to pin down, but for the purpose of this I'm going School of Illusion. I think it works both as a fun reference to the first spell we ever see him cast (the illucitory lily) and a sort of foreshadowing of him duplicitous nature.

Kuras

As an angel, Kuras's divine power is innate to him in a way that I think the Divine Soul Sorcerer would be best at replicating. Not really sure what else to add, this might be an even easier pick than Ais as a Warlock.

Vere

Vere is interesting. Given our first impression is that of a snarling shadow beast in the corner of out vision, part of me is inclined towards Shadow Magic Sorcerer. His power seems to be innate to him and I think the Hound of Ill Omen ability synergizes well with Vere's status as the Senobium's hunting dog. HOWEVER, the devs recently dropped the extra bit of lore implying that Vere used to be worshiped as a god, which does make an interesting argument for casting him as a cleric. I don't think most cleric abilities mesh as well with Vere's in game abilities, but thematically the Ambition Domain meshes well with his personality.

Mhin

Mhin is the one I'm least confident on. Their attempt to sneak into the Senobium speaks to them being a Rogue, The revelation that they're regular collecting bounties from soulless hunting points them to being a Ranger, and the Alchemist's observation that their a scientist suggests that when the full games drops they might be something of an Artificer, or depending on your tolerance for psuedo canon, maybe a Blood Hunter? IDK, I'm a little bit at a loss of what to do with this guy.

Bonus the Origins

Now given that all Origins more or less have the same skill set with some flavor difference All of them could easily be Aberrant Mind Sorcerers and be done with it. Their power is innate to them, and that power is power over the minds of others. It's a good solid choice, but if you wanted to give the Origins more influence over their skills sets below would be my choices

The Unnamed

Raised at a temple as an oracle? The Unnnamed is a Cleric. Given that it was thought their ability could create a groupmind the Solidarity or Zeal Domains could be an interesting choice, That the people under their influence are so violent could be an argument for the War Domain, or that everyone was so mislead as to what your ability is could be an argument for Trickery Domain. Ultimately as a self insert the Unnamed's background is fluid and any choice is valid, but thematically I think I think those four could all work really well. TBH I really wish there was a Madness Domain or something so you could channel that Dionysus Maenadic energy, I think that'd work really well, but homebrew is not my area.

The Alchemist

This Origin knows magic, magic is a learned skill for humans, The Alchemist is a Wizard, maybe an Artificer. Again, self insert, either choice is valid. If you go Wizard I think School of Enchantment could be a good choice, would tie into their powers a bit better then some of the other options. If you go Artificier there is an Alchemist subclass, it's a match made in heaven

The Hound

The Hound has a very specific archetype built into it and that is the Rogue: Thief. They're a street kid who survived by stealing. I don't know if there's another choice that could work for this Origin even half as well. works for this

Morgana, the famed once Queen of Camelot and socials star, has taken her duties of chronicling her brother Arthur's adjusting to the modern world very seriously. If she has a chance to humiliate him, in face of the legendary epitome of noble warrior built around him during the centuries, she will do it gladly, not even hiding a smirking during the whole time. As socials love cats, who is she to deprive the socials from pics of Merlin the grumpy serval? The fact that Arthur is sleeping in an idiotic pose on the background is just a bonus point.

About the AU The story is a sequel to the The Pendragon Sibling. Eventually, the druid give the royal couple a serval as gift for their renowned peace between the throne and the magic people. The servan turns out to be a very magical boy. At the same time Morgana acquires a puma, who happens to be the disguise of an High Priestess. I elaborated a bit here. * Not even the union of the Pendragon siblings, as King of Lands and Queen of Avalon and royal couple ruling over Camelot, with Morgause the High Priestesses of the old religion and Emrys the immortal dragonlord as their shadows and mates, is enough to prevent Arthurs tragic end at Camlann at the hands of the traitor Mordred. After Camlann, Merlin withdraws in his own pain, while Queen Morgana rules wisely for the next decades, assuring that the golden age of Camelot continues. When the time to retire from the mortal life comes, Morgana, with her loyal companion Morgause and Merlin, retires on the island at the center of the lake Avalon, taking residence in the tower standing there. Centuries pass, between long sleeps and new lives in the world outside. But magic, for a series or undisclosed circumstances, have been slowly fading in the lands outside of Avalon since the Siblings balance was lost with the death of Arthur. The more they are away from the island, center of the Old Magic, the more the contact is faint, and both Morgause and Merlin feel the need to stay in their animal forms. Until magic is so weak that they are stuck in their animal form even when staying at the tower. In the 21th century Morgana is following an academic career. Every morning, during breakfast, she keeps the tv on to make some background sounds. One morning the BBC's morning program suddenly switches to a live from the town of Avalon, for news about some odd happenings at the lake. The country wonders if this is the day when King Arthur will finally raise. There has been many false alarm. This morning is different, though. Morgana, with her two felines, rushes to the lake through magic and is there to see Arthur emerge from the waters. Merlin, a one-century-and-half ancient serval, attacks everyone present, Arthur included, and Arthur himself is forced to draw Excalibur to suffuse the situation, before his sister is arrested and his feline mate put down as the rabid cat he is. After the necessary time to familiarize with a world that is completely different from the one he remembers, Morgana introduces Arthur to the marvels of the socials and together they become Twitter stars, entertaining people with their commentaries on Arthurian-related productions and their bickering. Between Morgana's interviews and bits shared by Arthur on socials, the world is revealed that the Matter of Britain is mostly made of lies and exaggerations. BBC reaches out to Morgana to collaborate to write a series that would tell the true story of the Pendragons. Morgana launches herself in the project with eagerness. As the search for a proper location to set Camelot is about to start, Morgana hints that she might has the original castle miniaturized and preserved by magic and she would be amenable to make available as set, as long as the production covers the costs of restoration. Thus the Pendragons get their old nest back restored to its golden days free of charge, and Arthur can return to live in his natural habitat. Eventually, the true identity and nature of the felines, believed to be just animals given immortality by magic and relics of the golden age of Camelot, will be revealed, But that's another story for another time.

Notes Initially, this - the original screencap minus the serval - was supposed to be an Instagram-mock shared by the Merlin of the National Treasure instagram AU, but I didn't have the text ready and was thus stuck since 2018. Some months ago I decided to switch the poster from Merlin to the Morgana of this AU. It made no sense for Morgana to share a pic of her sleeping brother without Merlin the serval around, so the idea of putting a serval on the bed came. Tec stuffs (aka Behind The Manip) A nightmare. I couldn't find a serval pic that fit with the perspective required. And when I did, they came with dark shadows on their legs I couldn't fix. So I had to use the blankets to mask here and there, which came with another challenge on its own. Instagram graphic made all by-hand, with much moving/copy/pasting and, especially, a wearying research to find out which font the website used. No template site. Since I created my own template, it won't reflect any future changes the platform might make (I have no intention of modify my template).

Story

Year 1209 of the Septian Calendar. The threat posed by Almata has passed. Peace has finally returned to Calvard. With authorities working to contain the situation, criminal forces take the chance to make their own moves. Meanwhile, a spriggan by the name of Van Arkride begins his own investigation—after prompting from an unexpected visitor. Who could be responsible for this massacre? What was their objective? System

Battle System – The game builds on the seamless transition between field battles and command battles introduced in the previous game with new mechanics that can be used in both: Cross Charge & EX Chains! Mastering the use of these two combo mechanics can provide you with overwhelming firepower to use against your opponents.

Cross Charge – If you manage to Perfect Dodge an enemy’s attack during a field battle, the Cross Charge icon will appear! Pushing the correct button while the icon is on-screen will swap in another party member, who will simultaneously execute a charge attack on your foe! As a bonus, the party member that you swap in will have enhanced attack power for a period of time.

EX Chains – EX Chains can be activated by fulfilling specific conditions during command battles. Once these conditions have been met, using a craft or normal attack against a stunned enemy will automatically activate an EX Chain! This allows party members with SCLM activated to launch a simultaneous attack that will also impact nearby enemies, dealing massive damage.

Choose Your Chapters – Van and his collaborators will not always travel together during the events of Trails through Daybreak II. At times, some of the group may split off in order to take care of tasks in different areas of Calvard concurrently. Because of this, each act contains multiple chapters you can play in any order. Progress the story in the order you choose! Each chapter features a different cast of characters as we see their side of the act’s story play out. Once you’ve completed your chosen chapter, the next one will start up automatically.

Unique Missions – Certain chapters will feature missions that utilize the unique skillsets of the characters in that chapter’s party. For example, directly controlling the holo core AI, Mare, to hack the orbal network, or using Swin to silently tail a suspicious individual.

Characters

Van Arkride – The man at the head of Arkride Solutions. A lover of sweets, saunas, and orbal cars. Due to his job as a spriggan, Van has a tendency to take on legally-questionable jobs. However, the fact that he occasionally walks on the edge of the law does not preclude him from doing good by others—as is evidenced by his numerous personal contacts. While tracking down the Oct-Geneses at Agnes’ request, Van developed the ability to transform into an armored form known as the Grendel with the help of Mare, the holo core installed within his combat orbment. It was with this new ability that he was able to fend off the mafia group known as Almata. Having once terrorized the entirety of the Republic, Almata was eventually brought to its knees by the Arkride Solutions team during the fight for the Oct-Geneses. Upon the quelling of this threat, however, they decided to temporarily go their separate ways. Now left to himself in a less-than- lively office, Van is free to return to his lone-wolf lifestyle once more.

Agnes Claudel – A first-year at the prestigious Aramis Academy who currently serves on its Student Council. Despite her polite manner of speaking and at times meek demeanor, Agnes has shown great strength and determination while employed at Arkride Solutions—especially when facing off against the seedy underbelly of society. Agnes first met Van while searching for eight prototype orbments known as the Oct-Geneses, which she inherited from her great-grandfather. As thanks for taking on her request, she began working as one of Arkride Solution’s part-time assistants. At present, Agnes has recovered seven of the eight Geneses. Unfortunately, while continuing her search for the last remaining Genesis, she’s had no choice but to also divide her time between preparing for the Aramis Academy Festival and periodically helping out around Arkride Solutions. Regarding her relationship with Van, she both respects and admires him as her employer. However, she seems to be harboring some more amorous feelings for him as well…

Elaine Auclair – An A-rank bracer affiliated with the Calvard branch of the Bracer Guild. She is occasionally referred to by the moniker “Beauty’s Blade.” Due to her dignified beauty and masterful skill with a sword, Elaine tends to catch the eye of the media more often than not. Unfortunately, this also leads to talent agencies offering her contracts for modeling and acting—she always declines. Outside of being the poster girl for the Bracer Guild, Elaine has no present interest in joining the world of entertainment. During her high school years, she enjoyed a brief and fleeting romance with Van before he suddenly vanished without so much as a word. It was only recently, after seven years, that the two were able to reunite. Although their lingering feelings for each other have left their current relationship a bit tense, their time fighting Almata together was able to strengthen their bond once more. The Republic of Calvard – A large country located in the central region of the Zemurian continent. Its current leader is President Roy Gramheart. Due to the unfortunate circumstances created by the desertification of eastern Zemuria, Calvard has a substantial history of receiving both immigrants and refugees. The resulting mixture of cultures and ethnicities has made the country into something of a melting pot. One hundred years ago, Calvard was under the heel of its monarchal rulers. It was only after Sheena Dirke and her compatriots brought about a democratic revolution that the nation was transformed into a democratic republic. Though in constant conflict with Erebonia over the control of bordering regions, Calvard has recently been on the receiving end of reparations from the empire following the Battle of Jormungandr. These reparations enabled Calvard to enter a period of rapid growth and development, leading to its eventual overtake of Erebonia as the most powerful nation on the continent. Regarding the region’s recreational interests, recent technological advancements in orbal vehicles and filmmaking have caused a boom in both the motorsports and orbal cinema industries.

Messeldam – A moderate-sized city located in the north of Calvard. Due to its long-standing role as one of the Northern Sea’s major trading ports, Messeldam was often tasked during the days of monarchal rule with the delivery of imports to the capital of Oracion—along with fresh seafood, of course. Although the port remains active to this day, developments in airship technology have greatly diminished its significance. The city itself, however, remains an important gateway to Remiferia and its surrounding nations. Unlike Langport, Messeldam possesses very few tourist destinations. That being said, the townscape’s architecture tends to be quite popular with visitors, as its design has seen little change in the past century. The city’s Eastern and Central Eastern populations are fairly meager due to its geographical location. As such, it lacks a community that values cultural traditionalism. This has, fortunately, been a boon for Messeldam, as new art movements and customs are accepted with relative ease. It was this very attitude that led to the city serving as the venue for the Orbal Film Festival for a number of years, until its relocation to Tharbad in 1208.

Trainer plays chess with a disguised No. 9 before the First Mission incident. Both knew something was up with the other but figured they wouldn't try anything amongst a crowd. The two talked about different philosophies before Trainer leaves with a win and No.9's curiosity.

Soshiro finds a present in the mail room from the latest problem child. It turns out to be a well crafted purple Skitty onesie in his size. (The item got cleared before he could keep it.) Soshiro does wear it with the threat of anyone who laughs has to run 50 laps around base in their undergarments.

(Alternate Scenario) Riot Kaiju No.8 escapes headquarters instead of attacking Isao as the need to see Trainer again is too strong. Defense Force scrambles in an attempt to find the giant kaiju. Cue shocked Pikachu faces upon the sight of a purring Riot No.8 being petted by Trainer. Even moreso for the kid to chastises him into backing down after growling at the troops.

Trainer helps rebuild the 3rd Division base in the span of half a day as a surprise gift. Fighting, Ground, and Steel Types are the perfect Pokemon for reconstruction efforts. Or how two certain captains see more of the domestic side to Trainer's world.

Ultra Beasts don't understand boundaries at all. Especially not ones for the Defense Force Headquarters. Or how a Blacephon and Stakataka annoy the fuck out of the Higher Ups because they want to see Trainer alongside Kafka.

Pokemon Lessons time with everyone's favorite problem child. Trainer often quizzes their friends about stuff from their world and even brings examples. One of their favorite lessons was Regional Variants thanks the reactions at Exeggutor.

Story time with a chance for potential mischief. Trainer often leads to tales that have an air of eerieness or uncertainty to mess with people. Absolutely brought a Poltchageist once just to troll the 3rd Division during one such story.

When a Ultra Wormhole displaces a clutter of Skitty on Soshiro. Or how the Vice Captain gets turned into an impromptu cat dad for a few days. Soshiro stills checks up on them even as they stay at Trainer's facility.

No better introduction to the Battle Frontier than taking your friends to your gym. Especially if the unexpected bonus is a visit from the very Pokemon that raised Trainer. (The leader of the flock is a female Alpha Shiny.)

(Alternate Scenario) Isao clashes with Trainer's Incineroar for the safety of Kafka Hibino. The General learns what it really means to lead others and how important trust is. Malicious Moonsault finisher is the best way to ruin an old man's pride.

'How To Get In Touch With The Kaiju Inside Your Body'. Or Trainer encourages Kafka to try and communicate with Tiny in some way. Ai gets to hang out with his whelp more often while his other halves do so.

Trainer shows Kafka some of the items they found on their journey. He feels a bit uneasy at the Black Stone as the man senses it is glaring into his soul. Tension immediately fades to disbelief the moment fossils and fossil restoration is brought up.

3rd Division unofficial fashion show! Or Kafka gets to try out his new outfits and it somehow spirals into everyone joining in. No.10 is the unfortunate observer who doesn't understand fashion at all.

Sentai adaptation ideas (free to use)

(Here are some of the rough outlines of my Sentai adaptations, because I put a lot of thoughts into them and will eventually write them into full stories.That said, feel free to use any of these rough outlines if you want-these are initial ideas, and they might very well change as I write them and flesh them out further.)

-ToQger/Prisma Tracks: The Prisma Line is a mysterious railway that is a haven for the lost and marginalized, giving them a home and a safe place. Bad guys are the Bureau of Human Despair, trying to upend the train so that they can bring despair to the denizens. Naturally, all the villains are rich Capitalists. (This is just a modern update of the Sentai’s Shadow Line being aristocrats.) (Well, except Agent Unicorn, AKA the counterpart of Mothma/Mozuma from Kyuranger, and an ally of the Bureau. He’s a Spooky Secret Agent from an Evil Space Empire-but we don’t need to worry about that.)

-Zyuohger/Beast Force: a Pai Zhua Dropout and his new alien friends protecting the world through the power of video games and digital animal AI programs. (Also, the main villain, Azald’s counterpart, is a former member of an Evil Space Empire-but we don’t need to worry about that.)

-LuPat/Earth Defense, has two stories- one story is three rookies trying to stop a crime wave and uncover a Conspiracy™ in Earth Defense, while the other side is three Robin Hood-esque Rangers are trying to stop the Conspiracy™ and don’t like these rookies getting in their way. Both stories converge with both teams trying to stop The Conspiracy™. (Also, the ally to Earth Defense who looks identical to Balance and someone who helps maintain The Conspiracy™ is a high-ranking general of the Evil Space Empire-but we don’t need to worry about that.)

-Kyuangers/Zodiac Force: We do, in fact, need to worry about that. (AKA a dozen colorful Rebels defeat an evil empire and an Eldritch incarnation of Nothingness through the power of Friendship, Space Magic, and cheap copies of the Cosmic Fury Zords.) 

BONUS: JETMAN/BIRD FORCE Evil Bird Waves turn people into Evil Bird Hybrids. The bad guys are Feathered Dinosaurs with Magic Bird Powers who fight the Rangers, who themselves have Bird Powers. Only storyline unconnected to the Evil Space Empire.It’s a very cheesy season until it isn’t-then it’s still cheesy, but mixed in is an exploration of grief and loss. (The Black Ranger dies in the Sentai-which is kept here, with the twist that it’s not a sacrifice but a Terminal Illness. And the death sticks.)

Mech Construction Showcase: King Crab from Battletech

Greetings, Dan Here!

Layout for the standard version of the core rulebook continues steadily. While everyone waits, I thought I might post some devlogs to showcase the variety in the mech construction system by recreating a number of popular mechs from across media. I'll post the sample mech sheets with explanations for how/why I built the mechs the way I did.

 The construction system was designed to allow for deep customization while remaining quick and easy to build. Players are asked to prioritize how they want their mech to perform while choosing their mech parts, purchase the statistics of their attacks in weapon construction, and finally, choose individual abilities for the mech through utilities/disposable equipment. Much character creation in Savage Worlds, mech construction determines the capabilities on the mech in game mechanics, while the "skin" or nature of those mechanics are left to the discretion of players. That is how two mechs that are mechanically identical could have completely different appearance or weapon descriptions. (Fortunately, thanks to the number of options during construction it is extremely unlikely two mechs would ever be identical.)

To kick off this demonstration I have built the King Crab from the Battletech franchise. This is distinctly a later campaign, or "high level" mech build as befitting my favorite assault mech. For those not familiar, the King Crab is a massive beast of a mech that can sheer through enemies on the battlefield like a reaper with a scythe by using overpowered weaponry. Naturally as an assault mech, it sports a ridiculous amount of armor, reflected here in primary parts with a Sakura Industries Frame giving it 48 Armor Points. Unfortunately, the trade off for this super-heavy, is that it's, well, heavy. The King Crab stomps its way slowly across the battlefield, here with Caballero Corp Boosters, and the Movement Rating of 1.  Fortunately, to compensate for this slow speed, the crustacean monarch has many powerful weapons. This is supported by the Blitz Tech CPU giving it two utility systems that can be installed. In this case, we installed two Heat Sinks, adding +2 Heat Rating each on top of the Sakura Industries Radiator with it's 14 HR. This brings the King Crabs total HR to 18.

That Heat Rating score is poured into two weapon systems, the first, is the assault mech's iconic, massive, ballistic autocannons contain within a pair of claw-like shields which can double as melee weapons. These Autocannon Claws as described here, deal a d12 of damage per attack, and was given a Rate of Fire of 2, allowing each claw to fire once on an attack action. The ranges of which are for far and sniping, but melee has also been purchased so that the claw shields can be used to bludgeon opponents as well. While the available ammo for these cannons is low, having being able to melee with them will allow the mech to continue to attack with them, albeit with reduced damage, even after all ammo is expended. To help, the weapon's optimization was put into ammunition to grant one extra ammo just in case. Since this is a high level mech a couple of weapon mods have been installed as well. Irradiated Ammo will allow for additional damage against enemy mechs, while the Targeting AI will grant a bonus to hit with this weapon.

The second weapon to cover the range gap between melee and far, is the Large Laser. While it fires less, and for less damage, it has more ammo to compensate. In addition, the weapons mod, Explosive Ammunition gives it the opportunity to deal damage again if the d4 damage dice ever rolls a 4. Something that is more likely to occur with weapons using lower damage dice levels. 

Now the King Crab is also known for sporting Long Range Missiles. While this could technically be achieved by installing more Heat Sinks, or perhaps a Heavy Weapons Mode Converter for utility systems, instead, two disposable Rocket Decks were instead purchased here to serve the same purpose as needed. Lastly, to help with the ammo situation, (and to scare any unsuspecting opponent), the King Crab is equipped with a disposable Ammo Hopper, containing a full refill on ammunition for one weapon. While I did not specify which in the character sheet, I think enemies would be more frightened were it a refill on the autocannons. 

While this was a high end built, a similar approximation of these same qualities could be achieved by players at start. Naturally, not every option would be filled in for the player's first mission, but a mech could certainly be built that would still feel similar to the King Crab even with starting equipment. To help demonstrate, the next devlop sample mech I'll build is the fantasy mech, the Escaflowne.

My idea is this: It's about DinLuke but a little bit based on star wars and robotics. (So in other words an alternative universe where Luke doesn't exist and no more Jedi's exists) Okay so what if Bo Katan after becoming Mandalore she wants to rebuild a humanoid robot (ai robot or maybe a clone) that have the similar abilities of a Jedi. She has an odd taste in how the humanoid should look and act, after many attempts to reach her standards there are many fails. There were prototypes but some did not exceed her expectations such as the hair color or texture, eye color or shape, skin color and texture, height, and personality. (she wants to build Luke). Now when they finally build the perfect model, she is finally content now this robot is her minion it does everything she wants or says. She destroys all other prototypes so L11K3 (Luke) would not know about the others. Luke was made to be an assassin, a beast, a monster to kill whoever did not agree or followed Bo Katan even if they were her people (Mandalorian) or not. Din as one of soldiers to protect Mandalor (Bo Katan) always finds Luke with off course his usual posture stance at the main hall entrance of the throne or beside the throne. But this time he finds Luke curled up near the window of the big data units or the library. When Luke faces Din's visor as if he trusted him so much he asks Din "why was he created?" " what is his purpose as a reimagined Jedi?" A long pause after that made Din think that Luke is a lost droid (clone) trying to define his purpose 'So that's what he was holding and reading' thought Din to himself a whole dataset about Jedi's. The one flaw Bo Katan didn't realize after choosing him was his knowledge and his humanity. And thus his journey of trying to save, protect, and keep Luke sane.

*Bonus point: his other flaw is becoming clingy to the one he emotionally connects or respects as lover or master.

In other words Ms. ShyOwl idk if he should be a clone or robot. His appearance doesn't change he stays the same blue eyes and blond hair.

First impressions in Wonderland:

Kumo / Kaze:

Cautious. Everything about them is unfamiliar and new, even he can quickly figure out they're dangerous and needs to be careful but also gave no hint of being an immediate threat,

Kaze taking out the large beast (Griffin) that was attacking him and Kumo just well approached seeming to want them to follow which Tim was fine to do.

Cid:

Danger. To be avoided at all costs. Besides the abundance of weird smells surrounding the guy that just bothered his nose unfortunately being around him just brought him back to the lab -not helped by him probably doing some work in what would come off as looking very lab like area so that just triggered so many red flags just as he was getting comfortable with the idea of not having to go through those things again

Kain:

Not hostile or a threat and even a simple minded Chimera could tell he might not at his best/ possibly in pain, remained cautious as always with some comfort that if they did try anything he could easily escape.

Mustang:

The utmost caution and also a danger. The smell of alchemy clings strong, different from the scent of those in the lab but still unmistakably carries the scent all alchemy has when used.

The way he moves also carries with it the same feeling as some others he'd seen before. And it terrifies the Chimera to his core, someone not to be defied and best avoided all together. (Even if not being paid attention to the moment Mustang walked into the same room he was in for the first time he shut down and froze. Barely moved a muscle and stayed quiet, head low and shrinking back just all together showing a very submissive body language, although not visible if touched you'd be able to feel him shaking all over)

Riza:

Ehh, anxious and uncertain. Can tell they're someone to be cautious around and a potential danger- also notices she often carries a lingering scent of Mustang on her too which doesn't help.

Ai/Yuu

Confusion they look like the other people- sorta- but are very small. Definitely not a threat that's about it.

“At last, I have found you, foul beasts!” Setsuna practically shouted as she pointed at Ai and another actor whose name Nico hadn’t learned yet. “It is I, Artemisia Ullrin! Hunter of Horrors by trade and Collector of Cryptids by hobby.” She held her hand to her chest. “By order of Lady Lycaonian, I am to exterminate the infestation of werebeats suffered by her lands. You are welcome to resist, though I assure you that you shall lose. However! I offer an alternative! Surrender and be added to my collection.”

Maki was about to step forward but growled as Nico reached to hold her back.

"Wh... What are you talking about?" Ai asked, slowly putting herself between Setsuna and the other girl.

"You're werebeasts!"

"Where are the beasts?"

Nico was impressed that Ai didn't burst out laughing. She had learned the blonde woman loved puns.

"Right here!" Setsuna held out a dowel as a stand-in for the prop Rina would make later. "My cryptid detector doesn't... lie?" She tapped the side of the stick. "Wait, over there?" She pointed... not at Nico and Maki? "Here...?"

Is she going off script already? Nico wondered. She's insisting on making her character hammier than Chika made her. Well, that's fine. Nishikino-san and I can keep up.

"That can't be right. It says the entire town is full of cryptids?"

Interesting foreshadowing... If we keep it. Nico glanced at Chika who was scribbling notes in her notebook. Maybe we will.

"Wait, even me?"

Heh... And a red herring, because why not?

"No, here we go. Got it." Setsuna finally turned to the stars of the show. "You two! I'm sure of it."

“And how could you possibly be sure?” Nico retorted.

“Because my cryptid detector doesn’t lie!”

“And yet it just did.” Maki stated, crossing her arms across her chest.

I was going to say that, but it’s fine, I guess.

Setsuna made motions as though adjusting her device. “No, it’s working fine. I’m sure of it.”

“All you’re doing is scaring everyone here.” Maki practically snarled, sending a bit of a shiver up Nico’s spine with the barely bridled fierceness she portrayed. Was she tapping into her anger at Nico because of their argument this morning?

“Perhaps it would be best if you just left, Ms. Artisan von Ulric.” Nico added.

“Artemisia Ullrin.” Setsuna corrected, glancing around slowly. “And yes, I shall take my leave. For now. But mark my words. You have not seen the last of Artemisia Ullrin. I have my honor as a Hunter to fulfill the contract and remove there werebeasts from this area.”

With that Setsuna turned and was about to walk away when she started giggling instead.

“Ms. Artisan von Ulric?” She chuckled, turning back. “What prompted that?”

“Same thing that prompted your added lines about your malfunctioning device.”

“Well, I vote we keep it. I loved it.”

Chika gave a thumbs up from where she was sitting nearby.

“Oh, but maybe you can come up with something different each time, Nico-san?”

“What do you mean?” Nico asked.

“Yeah, like Albatross Urchin.” Ai chimed in.

“Artifact Ultimatum.” Setsuna laughed.

“Albert Ulcer.” Maki suggested, catching Nico by surprise. Maybe she’s better now?

Nico listened to more suggestions from the others, making a mental note of ones that stood out to her. This was not exactly how she was accustomed to rehearsing, but everyone seemed to be having fun, herself included. So not only did she know she could get used to it, but part of her found she preferred it.

Now, if only she could get on better terms with her costar… She glanced at the redhead beside her. Then perhaps working at this new theater would end up being one of Nozomi’s better suggestions for her career so far.

Author’s Note Continued: I’ve no idea how often professional actors go off script. Well, at least not live stage actors; YouTube is filled with collections of adlibbed bits that stayed in various movies. But I do like the idea of a script being a living work that can be directly influenced by the actors themselves. And for anyone who has read a lot of my PoH chapters, scattered as they are across event collections, one my know that this becomes fairly standard practice at the Sonoda Kurosawa theater.

As for the argument between Nico and Maki, I could joke by saying it’s just one of many. And for the average reader who may not remember all of the PoH stuff I’ve posted, that works fine to view it as such. However, I will admit that this is referencing a particular fight that I’ve been stuck on for over a year. And someday I really need to work that out and get it posted so I can continue with the main story of PoH.

And finally, with this entry, I conclude my official Promptober entries. However, as with last year, since I did not end up using the Backup Prompts, and I’d hate to see them go to waste, I will still be writing at least one entry for them as well. But it was a really fun event. I was able to write something for every prompt, and many, many extra entries; 31 primary and 35 bonus entries for a total of 66. Final word count ended up being ~38k, so just shy of the 40k needed for a novel. I’d say that would prime me for NaNoWriMo, but writing a full beginning, middle, climax, ending story of 40k words is a vastly different task than 66 ~575 word chapters scattered randomly across four fandoms and like half a dozen parent fic collections.
