Tech Breakdown: What Is a SuperNIC? Get the Inside Scoop!
Tumblr media
The most recent development in the rapidly evolving digital realm is generative AI. A relatively new phrase, SuperNIC, is one of the revolutionary inventions that makes it feasible.
Describe a SuperNIC
On order to accelerate hyperscale AI workloads on Ethernet-based clouds, a new family of network accelerators called SuperNIC was created. With remote direct memory access (RDMA) over converged Ethernet (RoCE) technology, it offers extremely rapid network connectivity for GPU-to-GPU communication, with throughputs of up to 400Gb/s.
SuperNICs incorporate the following special qualities:
Ensuring that data packets are received and processed in the same sequence as they were originally delivered through high-speed packet reordering. This keeps the data flow’s sequential integrity intact.
In order to regulate and prevent congestion in AI networks, advanced congestion management uses network-aware algorithms and real-time telemetry data.
In AI cloud data centers, programmable computation on the input/output (I/O) channel facilitates network architecture adaptation and extension.
Low-profile, power-efficient architecture that effectively handles AI workloads under power-constrained budgets.
Optimization for full-stack AI, encompassing system software, communication libraries, application frameworks, networking, computing, and storage.
Recently, NVIDIA revealed the first SuperNIC in the world designed specifically for AI computing, built on the BlueField-3 networking architecture. It is a component of the NVIDIA Spectrum-X platform, which allows for smooth integration with the Ethernet switch system Spectrum-4.
The NVIDIA Spectrum-4 switch system and BlueField-3 SuperNIC work together to provide an accelerated computing fabric that is optimized for AI applications. Spectrum-X outperforms conventional Ethernet settings by continuously delivering high levels of network efficiency.
Yael Shenhav, vice president of DPU and NIC products at NVIDIA, stated, “In a world where AI is driving the next wave of technological innovation, the BlueField-3 SuperNIC is a vital cog in the machinery.” “SuperNICs are essential components for enabling the future of AI computing because they guarantee that your AI workloads are executed with efficiency and speed.”
The Changing Environment of Networking and AI
Large language models and generative AI are causing a seismic change in the area of artificial intelligence. These potent technologies have opened up new avenues and made it possible for computers to perform new functions.
GPU-accelerated computing plays a critical role in the development of AI by processing massive amounts of data, training huge AI models, and enabling real-time inference. While this increased computing capacity has created opportunities, Ethernet cloud networks have also been put to the test.
The internet’s foundational technology, traditional Ethernet, was designed to link loosely connected applications and provide wide compatibility. The complex computational requirements of contemporary AI workloads, which include quickly transferring large amounts of data, closely linked parallel processing, and unusual communication patterns all of which call for optimal network connectivity were not intended for it.
Basic network interface cards (NICs) were created with interoperability, universal data transfer, and general-purpose computing in mind. They were never intended to handle the special difficulties brought on by the high processing demands of AI applications.
The necessary characteristics and capabilities for effective data transmission, low latency, and the predictable performance required for AI activities are absent from standard NICs. In contrast, SuperNICs are designed specifically for contemporary AI workloads.
Benefits of SuperNICs in AI Computing Environments
Data processing units (DPUs) are capable of high throughput, low latency network connectivity, and many other sophisticated characteristics. DPUs have become more and more common in the field of cloud computing since its launch in 2020, mostly because of their ability to separate, speed up, and offload computation from data center hardware.
SuperNICs and DPUs both have many characteristics and functions in common, however SuperNICs are specially designed to speed up networks for artificial intelligence.
The performance of distributed AI training and inference communication flows is highly dependent on the availability of network capacity. Known for their elegant designs, SuperNICs scale better than DPUs and may provide an astounding 400Gb/s of network bandwidth per GPU.
When GPUs and SuperNICs are matched 1:1 in a system, AI workload efficiency may be greatly increased, resulting in higher productivity and better business outcomes.
SuperNICs are only intended to speed up networking for cloud computing with artificial intelligence. As a result, it uses less processing power than a DPU, which needs a lot of processing power to offload programs from a host CPU.
Less power usage results from the decreased computation needs, which is especially important in systems with up to eight SuperNICs.
One of the SuperNIC’s other unique selling points is its specialized AI networking capabilities. It provides optimal congestion control, adaptive routing, and out-of-order packet handling when tightly connected with an AI-optimized NVIDIA Spectrum-4 switch. Ethernet AI cloud settings are accelerated by these cutting-edge technologies.
Transforming cloud computing with AI
The NVIDIA BlueField-3 SuperNIC is essential for AI-ready infrastructure because of its many advantages.
Maximum efficiency for AI workloads: The BlueField-3 SuperNIC is perfect for AI workloads since it was designed specifically for network-intensive, massively parallel computing. It guarantees bottleneck-free, efficient operation of AI activities.
Performance that is consistent and predictable: The BlueField-3 SuperNIC makes sure that each job and tenant in multi-tenant data centers, where many jobs are executed concurrently, is isolated, predictable, and unaffected by other network operations.
Secure multi-tenant cloud infrastructure: Data centers that handle sensitive data place a high premium on security. High security levels are maintained by the BlueField-3 SuperNIC, allowing different tenants to cohabit with separate data and processing.
Broad network infrastructure: The BlueField-3 SuperNIC is very versatile and can be easily adjusted to meet a wide range of different network infrastructure requirements.
Wide compatibility with server manufacturers: The BlueField-3 SuperNIC integrates easily with the majority of enterprise-class servers without using an excessive amount of power in data centers.

Combine this with Trump’s attacks on higher education — his gutting the funding of the National Institutes of Health (which provides a large portion of biomedical research) and the National Science Foundation (engineering and computer research) and his effective closure of USAID (which underwrites research in global diseases). Put this together with Trump’s attacks on the freedom of speech of university students and professors. And with Trump’s (and RFK Jr.’s) attacks on vaccine science. With Trump’s and right-wing governors’ attacks on teaching the truth in our schools about America’s history of slavery and Native American genocide. Combine this with Trump’s attack on America’s libraries — last week’s executive order mandating cuts in the funding of libraries around the country — which will jeopardize literacy development and reading programs, reliable internet access for those without it at home, and homework help and other resources for students and educators. And his attacks on America’s museums (the same executive order cut their funding, too). And his attack on the arts, as illustrated by Trump’s takeover of the Kennedy Center (last month, he announced himself its new chair, replaced 13 board members, and inserted a new interim president). What’s the larger picture? Not an “attack on the liberal state,” as I keep reading. Not “the culmination of Trump’s culture wars.” Certainly not that Trump is seeking “small government” over “big government” or advancing traditional conservatism over traditional liberalism. What’s really occurring is an attack on the American mind.

My concepts for the development progress of an Iterators Puppet
-my ideas below
-Feasibility Study
[1]: First autonomous control module, any instruction to be given must be done manually through physical means (the keys), outputs were shown through the screen. A very primitive system, however, did its job proving the greater machine concept was achievable. While it does look like a lens above the monitor, this was a simple status gauge for benchmarking.
-Prototyping and Development
[2]: Now with the capability to wirelessly and audibly communicate to receive instructions and inputs. The system was no longer directly integrated into the facility, and resided on the first instance of an iterator's arm. This was considered a feat due to the complications with isolating the control module from the rest of the iterators components, while keeping processing power. A permanent connection/umbilical was needed to sustain life and function though.
To “talk” back, they were crafted with multidimensional projectors, the mobile arm allowing the angles and variance for this projection. Only later into development were advanced speakers installed for optimized understanding, however the extra computing power required to synthesize proper speech was found to strain the contained module, so this function had rare use in the end.
[3]: At this point there was a change in perspective in the project. What once were machines to simply compute and simulate, were now planned to be the home, caregiver, and providers. The further the project came to fruition the more religious importance was placed upon these “random gods”. From this stance not only did the puppets have to manage and control their facilities, they had to communicate with the people and priests. To represent benevolent beings who will bring their end and salvation. In this process iterators began to take a more humanoid shape, to better reflect their parents. Development was focused on compacting the puppet closer to the size of an ancient for this purpose. This stage was the first to incorporate a cloak/clothing into their design considerations, to further akin themselves in looks. The cloak would hide the iterators' engineered bodies and give a body to their silhouette.
[4]: As bioengineering and mechanics were rapidly progressing due to the void fluid revolution, this allowed plenty of margin for developing the outer design of the iterator puppets. This prototype was the first to incorporate limbs for the purpose of body language. This was another step in the drive to give a body to their random gods.
-Final Iterations
[5]: First generation iterators had the final redesign of puppet bodies. Far different from their first designs, they are fully humanoid. Their bodies are shaped to be organic and as full of life as they could at the time. Their center of sapience has fully settled within their body, as can be seen as their unconscious use of limbs without the direct intention for communication. This can also see how they manage their work, where many of the functions (which can be done with just an internal request) are operated through physical gestures of their limbs. Their puppet chambers also allow for full comprehensive projection, where many of their working monitors are displayed. It is seen how iterators prefer to utilize their traversal arm to transfer between the current working projection window.
These designs were hardy and nearly self-sufficient, only requiring minimal power from their umbilical to charge. (However was still limited in the terms of internal power production, for this first generation extensive batteries sufficed)
[6]: Later generation not only incorporated advanced bioengineering internally, but externally. While still a hardened shell, their body plates have been incorporated into the organics of the puppet, maintaining the protective requirements while barely leaving a trace of hinges or plates. This “soft” skin had drawbacks, such as reduced durability to the first generations, this was offset by the greatly enhanced repair speeds and capability this type of skin allowed.
Internal power generation was implemented into these late generation models. If the case arose, the Puppet could be disconnected from their umbilical and still be conscious from an undefined period of time. (However this would limit the operating capacity of the puppet when running self sufficiently) This greatly eased maintenance works, as the Puppet could still run the greater facility wirelessly while work was done on the chamber, arm or whatever as needed.

Without scientist Kseniia Petrova’s expertise, no one can fully unlock the data’s potential, putting crucial advancements in early cancer detection at risk.
April 21, 2025, 2:34 PM MST / Updated April 22, 2025, 4:20 AM MST
By Jean Lee
A groundbreaking microscope at Harvard Medical School could lead to breakthroughs in cancer detection and research into longevity. But the scientist who developed computer scripts to read its images and unlock its full potential has been in an immigration detention center for two months — putting crucial scientific advancements at risk.
The scientist, the 30-year-old Russian-born Kseniia Petrova, worked at Harvard’s renowned Kirschner Lab until her arrest at a Boston airport in mid-February. She is now being held at ICE’s Richwood Correctional Center in Monroe, Louisiana, and fighting possible deportation to Russia, where she said she fears persecution and jail time over her protests against the war in Ukraine.
“I would call it a grinding machine,” Petrova, who spoke with NBC News from the Louisiana facility, said about being detained. “We are in this machine, and it doesn’t care if you have a visa, a green card, or any particular story. ... It just keeps going.”

Love, Agency, and Androids: A Chobits Retrospective
Tumblr media
Content warning: discussion of sexual objectification, infantilization, groping, fictional age-gap relationships
Spoilers for the Chobits manga and anime
Before Siri and Alexa or movies like Her, the 2000 series Chobits introduced its viewers to an alternate present where highly advanced humanoid robots, called persocoms, serve the role of personal computers and cell phones. Chobits uses its post-humanist storytelling to ask questions about the highly personal relationships that humans can develop with something that looks human or shares human qualities, but can never exactly be human. Because the persocoms are almost all built to look like young women, it also creates a space to ask questions about gender roles in relationships and how those perceived as female can be literally objectified. At times, Chobits presents a very compelling and empowering narrative around love, personal choice, and sacrifice. Yet, simultaneously, Chobits fails to reckon with the very questions it raises.
The series is a CLAMP classic, with many of the visuals and themes we’d come to expect from the four-women team who penned and illustrated Cardcaptor Sakura and Magic Knights Rayearth. However, Chobits differs from the young-girl centered stories many expect when they think of CLAMP. Chobits has a teen male protagonist and the manga was serialized in the seinen Weekly Young Magazine. Because the target audience is adult men, the series features frank discussions about relationships, sex, and heartache. Although, this added maturity also leads to many visuals or gags based around fan service or, at times, more disturbing incidents of sexual objectification.

adventures in aerospace
So I recently started working at Large Aircraft Manufacturer. (LAM) The plant I work at employs 30,000 people. The company as a whole employs 170,000. Usually you only hear about LAM when something goes wrong. But no matter how bumbling it seems from the outside, it's way worse on the inside.
Three months after my first day, I have been "graduated" from "training." In reality, I'm still completely worthless on the floor: the training center has given me a paltry subset of the production certificates I need to actually to do my assigned job. A commonly cited statistic at LAM is that a hundred men a day are retiring, each one representing decades of experience, walking out the door, forever. The training center is in the unenviable position of managing a generational replacement, and have resorted to shoveling heaps of zoomers through as fast as possible. (As one of the few people with a visible hairline and who is not wearing a Roblox graphic tee; I am frequently mistaken for an instructor, and asked where the bathroom is, what time the next class starts, etc)
In theory, the training center knows what shop I'm assigned to, and can simply assign me all the required classes. In practice, they do the absolute minimum amount of training in a desperate attempt to relive the crowding in their handful of computer labs and tell graduates to pick up their certs later.
Of course, the irresistible force of the schedule meets the immovable object of the FAA. If you don't have the required production certificate to perform a particular job, you don't touch the airplane. Full stop, end of story.
And so the curtain opens on the stage. It reveals a single senior mechanic, supervising a mechanic who finally received all the certs and is being qualified on this particular job, surrounded by another three trainees. Trainees are less than nothing, absolute scum. At best we can fetch and carry. Mostly we are expected to stay out of the way. And the senior mechanic is only senior in title. He is one of six assembler-installers who is certified to actually work on the plane, out of twenty people on the crew, and spends every day with a permanent audience. He is 23 years old.
("Mechanic"? If you think the jargon at your job is bad, try joining a company that's a century old. Assembler-installers are universally referred to as "mechanics", despite doing work that's nothing like what a car mechanic does, and who are generally paid far worse than FAA certified A&P mechanics. Mechanics are the 11 bravos of LAM, grunts, the single largest category of worker. The tip of the spear. Hooah!)
Tumblr media
Large Aircraft Manufacturer is in a dilly of a pickle. All of its existing airframe designs are hilariously antiquated. It tried designing a brand new plane from a clean sheet, and lost billions of dollars to a decade-long integration hell. After that, to save money, it tried just tacking bigger engines on an older design without changing anything else, and the stupid things plowed into the ground in an excruciatingly public manner.
LAM is now trying a middle road. It is upgrading one of its designs that is merely middle aged, rather than ancient, and with proven, de-risked components built in-house, rather than scattering them to subcontractors across the world. And it's still blowing past deadlines and burning billions of dollars LAM really doesn't have to spare.
This is the program I've been assigned to.
Advanced Midbody - Carbon Wing has taken the bold step of just tacking on carbon fiber wings to a conventional aluminum fuselage. Shockingly, AMCW is now stuck in lightning strike testing, due to that troublesome join between conductive aluminum and conductive...ish carbon fiber. But LAM, confident as ever, or perhaps driven by complaints of its customers, has announced that full rate production will begin just next year. Thus the tide of newhires. According to the schedule, we're supposed to jerk from one wingset a month to one wingset a week. That's not going to happen, but, oh well, orders from above move down at the speed of thought, while reality only slowly trickles upwards.
"120 inch pounds? Really?"
I startle upright. I have observed one hundred pi bracket installs, and I will observe a hundred more before I can touch aircraft structure. This is the first disagreement I've witnessed. A more advanced trainee is questioning the torque spec on a fastener. It is not an entirely foolish question-- most sleeve bolts we use are in the 40 in-pounds range. Doubling it that is unusual. I cough the dust off my unused vocal cords and venture an opinion.
"Well hey I could look it up? I guess"
The lead mechanic glances at me, surprised that I'm still awake, then looks away. Excuse enough for me!
I unfold myself from the stool I've been sitting on for the last four hours then hobble over to the nearest Shared Production Workstation.
We do not get Ikea-style step by step instructions on how to put together the airplane. Like any company that's been around for long enough, LAM is a tangled wad of scar tissue, ancient responses to forgotten trauma. If you state a dimension twice, in two different places, then it is possible for an update to only change one of those dimensions, thereby making the engineering drawing ambiguous. Something real bad must have happened in the past as a result of that, so now an ironclad rule is that critical information is only stated once, in one place, a single source of truth.
As a result, the installation plan can be a little... vague. Step 040 might be something like "DRILL HOLE TO SIZE AND TORQUE FASTENERS TO SPEC". What hole size? What torque spec?
Well, they tell you. Eventually.
Tumblr media
(Image from public Google search)
You are given an engineering drawing, and are expected to figure out how things go together yourself. (Or, more realistically, are told how it's done by coworkers) Step by step instructions aren't done because then dozens of illustrations would have to be updated with every change instead of just one, and drawings are updated surprisingly frequently.
Fasteners are denoted by a big plus sign, with a three letter fastener code on the left and the diameter on the right, like so: "XNJ + 8"
To get the actual part number, we go to the fastener callout table:
Tumblr media
(Note the use of a trade name in the table above. There is nothing a mechanic loves more than a good trademark. Permanent straight shank fasteners are always called HI-LOKs. It's not a cable tie, it's a Panduit™. It's not a wedgelock, it's a Cleco™. Hey man, pass me that offset drill. What, you mean a Zephyr™? Where'd the LAMlube™ go? This also means you have to learn the names of everything twice, one name on the installation plan, and one name it's referred to in conversation.)
We find XNJ on that table, and fill in the diameter: BACB30FM8A. Now we look up the spec table for that fastener:
Tumblr media
The eagle eyed among you might note that there is no "diameter: 8" on that table. As a LAM mechanic, you are expected to simply know that "diameter" is measured in 32nds of an inch, which simplifies down to 1/4.
(LAM preserves many old-school skills like fraction reduction and memorizing decimal equivalents like this, like flies caught in amber. Not least is the universal use of Imperial units. Many American manufacturers have been browbeaten into adding parenthetical conversions. Not LAM! Any risk at all of a mechanic seeing a second number and using it by accident is too great, and anyway, it violates SSOT. Lengths are in inches and feet, weights are in pounds, volume is in gallons and if you don't like it then you can go eat shit!)
After 10 minutes of following references, I arrive at that table, print it off, highlight the correct row, and hand it off to my senior mechanic.
"Great, thanks."
Gratified that I have enhanced shareholder value, I sit back down, and immediately fall asleep. Another day living the dream.

The Mechanic pt 3
Tumblr media
Four days had gone by since that weekend. Sitting behind your desk in the little office of your studio you were debating on whether or not to call him. His shop got a lot of buisness from some car show that was in town, so you assumed he was probably really busy.
Four days it’s been, but for some odd reason it felt like weeks. Being with Josh was immensely captivating. He watched you, listened, like really listened. Every night for the past four days the two of you would fall asleep on the phone together. Sometimes you’d wake up in the middle of the night to see him sleeping peacefully.
Skin glowing, tattoos on full display, he was really taking a toll on you. And your car ? Ran like a beauty, it was even better on gas, being and adult, getting gas was the worse thing ever. Like where does the gas go so fast ?
---
Your hands rested between your hands as your elbows leaned on your desk, daydreaming about Josh.
A notification popped up on the screen of your computer. It was a scheduled private session notification, which you rarely got.
Clicking on the notification, the information from the customer flashed on the screen. It was a 2 hour long hot yoga session, paid in advance. The name read ‘Your handy man.’
There was no way in hell.
Tapping on the Ipad next to the computer, you clicked around looking at the details of the appointment. They scheduled thirty minutes from the time you’d seen the message, so they gave you some time to set up.
Grinning like a fool to yourself you sent him a text before you headed to set up.
Josh 🔧
my handy man huh?
He texted back immediately.
Bells🧘🏾‍♀️
😂😂😂😂
listen girl my back is killing me
all these damn cars
Rolling your eyes you turned your phone off, and set up the studio for your hot yoga session.
-
Thankfully you only had private clients today, Josh being the first. He had texted you letting you know he was outside, and rounding the corner sure enough there he was, at the entrance, breathing on the glass door.
“Seriously Jey I just cleaned that glass.”
He said nothing, only drew a heart in his fogged up mess on the window.
“Boy I swear.” You muttered, dragging him into the studio.
He chuckled behind you in amusement. Truth be told he loved the feeling of your smaller hands in his, guiding him to the back room.
He walked ahead of you looking around the small room. Spotting a bathroom in the far corner, with a shower. Two mats had already been centered in the room, heat blasting, creating a steamy atmosphere.
Stepping in behind him you closed the door, trapping in the heat, beads of sweat were forming on his forehead.
"Hot already Mr handy man."
"Aint nothing I can't handle." He replied with a sly smirk.
"Besides how'd you find me anyways."
Sitting down you motioned for him to follow you on the floor, and he did mirroring your position.
"I looked up yoga studios in the city, and weeded them out until I found one that was owned by someone by the name of Bella.”
He enunciated your name flicking his tongue off the roof of his mouth, being dramatic.
" I don't know if I should be concerned or flattered."
You continued stretching as he tried his best to copy your movements.
"If Im being honest Bella you been on my mind hella recently."
The mood shifted slightly as he looked over at you, not a heavy shift, but you could tell he really meant what he said.
"Im glad you feel that way cause you been on mine too, buttt you be playing only calling me to go to sleep is crazy."
He stopped stretching to face you, "nah don't do that cause it aint even like that, I got my shop and my lil man to take care of, Im never just going to ignore you, or not give you the time of day, cause I kinda want to see where this goes."
"I get that, but don't ever put me on the back burner cause you got a life, I got a life too Josh and I make time for you, always."
"You do, and Im not putting you on a back burner, just asking you to understand where Im coming from, matter fact, what you doing after this ?"
He resumed his stretching, lazily matching your movements.
" Ive got about two more clients, why?"
"Yea gon head and cancel on them, I got a spot in the city I want to take you to."
You paused, gaping at him.
"Josh I can't just drop everything-
Before you could finish he grabbed your hips flipping you on top of him. Holding you firmly in his grasp, he conjured up the best puppy dog look he could.
"Please Bella."
No way this man is pouting. Rolling your eyes, you leaned down and pecked his lips. Silly of you to think you where going to pull away from him, because as soon as you tried he yanked you back in place, deepening the kiss.
His hands explored your backside as the two of you made out on the floor. Every moment with him sucked all the air out of your lungs, being around him made all of your senses alert and it almost felt like you were on fire, but in a good way. He made you feel so alive.
His lips were so soft yet so demanding, it was so intoxicating. His thumbs traced circles on your bare skin as he kissed you.
"You so damn pretty, I don't think I'll ever get enough of you."
"You aint even had enough of me to know you aint had enough."
"Oh nah I had enough of you alright."
He mumbled flipping you on your back, and slid between your legs hovering over you. He eyed you like a hungry beast.
Grinning, you propped yourself up on your elbows.
"Your back hurt huh?"
He threw his head back laughing.
"And do."
"If it bothers you for real let me show you some easy stretches that you can do at home, it'll help after long days at the shop."
"Shiiiii lemme get back on this mat."
He wiggled from between your legs and back onto his mat, laying on his back. He looked too eager to be shown what you had in mind.
"You're so cute." You laughed.
He smiled at you, showing all his teeth, "not too much girl I'll lay yo ass back out on this mat and get to work for real."
"Mcht boy get on your knees."
He snapped his head in your direction.
"Girl don't play with me."
You rolled your eyes, "Josh just trust me."
Chuckling he threw his hands up, "I'm just playing ma, come on show me."
Getting on your mat you got on your knees, and bent over with your chest to your knees and hands stretched out. He mirrored you perfectly.
"This is called the Childs pose, super easy, right."
"Yea, I can deadass feel the stretch, it feels good."
"Good, cause if it ever hurts you need to stretch first, or you're doing it wrong, which is impossible because it's the easiest thing ever." You grinned to yourself.
"I like to hold it for a few minutes at a time, until Im satisfied."
Sitting up you watched him relax in the position. He was shirtless, with black shorts, and god did he look good. His back shined slightly from the heat, causing his ink to glisten.
He lifted his body, leaning back onto his heels. You watched him in amusement.
"You keep staring at me like that, imma know sum."
This time it was you who threw your head back laughing, the sound filling the space. Josh took a mental note of how much he liked your real laugh.
" What the hell ever, just watch me ok?"
He nodded , watching you go into the next pose, a sly grin never leaving his face.
This time you crawled onto all fours, arching your upper back, while keeping your hips parallel to your knees. "You look crazy as hell Im not got lie."
Laughing you positioned yourself for him to see you better.
"Yea it does look ridiculous but it feels so good, this one is the cat pose."
He chuckled, mimicking your movements again, perfectly.
"You know you're doing pretty good, you'd be surprised how many people fuck up these simple poses."
"Hey listen it aint without difficulty ma, im just tryna show off a lil bit."
"You know what", you giggled eyeing him from under your hair that had fallen in your face.
"I like to hold this one for a few minutes, it really helps my shoulders."
"I was just about to say I feel that stretch up the their too- damn I should've found a yoga studio sooner."
" I wouldn't have fucked you in my car then."
He choked almost dropping his pose at your bluntness.
"Y- yea you right."
He shifted on his mat, trying to fix his pants.
He thought he was slick, but you saw his movements.
"How's your son."
"Bad, as fuck."
"So your shop aint the only reason you got that salted beard huh."
"Oh yo lil ass got jokes huh, I thought you liked my beard, you was shol grabbing on my shit in that samee car."
"Ill do it again too, keep talking."
He turned to eye you, meeting his gaze, it made your stomach flip flop. It was dark and daring. He was finna tear yo ass out the frame after you stretched him.
And you were about to make sure he was all the way loosened.
"You really is sum else Bella."
He leaned back onto his heels, "aii show me the next one."
You grinned getting in front of him, getting on all fours again you lifted your butt into the air, arms outstretched in front of you pushing into the ground.
"This is the downward facing dog."
You turned to see him sitting directly behind you.
"Yea this one my favorite fasho."
His eyes lingered on your figure for a beat longer than they should have, eventually crawling on all fours he copied you, again, perfectly.
"You not slick Joshua."
"Hmm?"
His voice went up a few octaves, clearly betraying him.
"Keep on boy imma show you sum."
"Shit lil mama, you bold today huh, what happened to my quiet little Bella I met at the front of my shop."
"I was never your quiet little Bella, first of all, and I was having a long day, hang around me long enough, I might keep you on your toes more than that boy of yours."
"Im already knowing."
"Ok now lay on your back again, let me stretch you out."
He obeyed, a little too eagerly.
Hovering over him you took his leg and bent his knee to his chest, your thighs straddling his other leg. He was thoroughly enjoying this position.
"Just like that- fuckk." He breathed out, his eyes fluttering.
You raised an eyebrow at the man.
He always came completely undone underneath you, it was a sight to behold.
You stretched his leg to the side and his eyes flew open, face red.
"Girl what you doing, got me spread out like a bad bitch."
Laughing you shook your head, "I gotta stretch this part of your hip."
As you spoke you slid your hand to his hip massaging the small area there. You and him both knew what you were doing, his growing bulge on full display.
Sliding your hand to his thigh you dragged your nails up and down, causing him to shiver under your touch. Goosebumps were left in your path.
You let his leg go and resumed on the other, lifting his knee to his chest and then out to the side, you listened closely as he tried so hard to hide the low groaning coming from his lips, but it was no use.
He was so sexy, every inch if him shined in a thin layer of sweat, his shorts hiked up from the stretch. Taking your hand you pushed up one side of his shorts as far as they'd go.
"I never really seen your whole leg before I was curious how far up your ink went."
"Mhm you sure you not just tryna touch on me."
You grabbed his fully erect bulge with no hesitation, his hands flew to yours trying to pry you off, his eyes wide.
"Don't test me Fatu."
He all but whimpered under your touch, but his movements completely contrasted the noise that just left him.
He greedily grabbed at your waist yanking you on top of his face and without warning, he grabbed at the leggings you had on and ripped them from the middle.
"Joshua what the fuc-
He cut you off with his mouth on your clit, swirling and tugging at your bud, his hands placed firmly on your hips holding you down on his face.
He tongued your pussy expertly, flicking and savoring every single inch of you, you wear gripping on his hair for stability. This what you wanted anyways. He thought he was so slick tryna be all cute and submissive.
'No sir come obliterate my shit', was all you could think.
And he was, his tongue was fucking you, curling in just the right spot, and somehow his thumb had found your swollen clit, circling ever so slightly. You were so close and his pace didn't falter for a second because he knew it.
Your gripped tightened in his hair as you rereleased into his mouth.
"Fucckkk Josh oh fuckk."
Your voice was high and washed out and he was enjoying every second of it.
He slid you off of him, straddling his hips. He smirked at you beard now soaked from your essence. You were so over trying to act innocent for him, he knew it too. He knew he just found the freak of his life.
Leaning down you licked the excess essence off his face, his hands slid to the back of your shirt and ripped it at the seems just as he had did your pants.
"Joshua I swear to go-
He grabbed the back of your neck slamming his mouth into yours.
"Shut the fuck up Bella, damn, all that fucking mouth."
Grinning you leaned into the kiss, needing to feel all of him. His tongue fought for dominance in your mouth just as you fought for it in his. The two of you all but swallowing each other on the floor.
Small whimpers and grunts left the two of you as you made out. His hands roughly explored you, ripping off any piece of fabric left on your body.
He broke the kiss leaning back onto his heels, giving you full access to his rock hard dick. His black shorts straining.
"Come here baby."
He gently grabbed your face, whispering just loud enough to hear him.
On all fours you where perfectly level with him. You kissed his stomach and his hips, the small space underneath his belly button leading to his happy trail. Finally hooking a finger onto his waist band and yanking down.
He sprung out of his shorts. Standing at attention. His tip was already leaking, pre cum dripping down his length.
"Hmmm look at you, so wet for me already baby." You cooed.
Before he could even fix his mouth to say something smart, you wrapped your lips around him, taking him all the way in.
His eyes squeezed shut as he touched the back of your throat, his hand moving to the back of your head.
"Mhmmm."
His voice rumbled through his body as you you sucked him off. Your eyes watched him from below, watching the moment you thought he was close.
As soon as he twitched in your mouth you pulled him out stopping your movements, his eyes shot open to find you grinning wickedly at him.
He glared at you.
"You playing with fire."
"I know."
"Bella I swear on everything I love if you tease m-
You cut him off by shoving him back into your mouth, he took the opportunity to take both of his hands and slammed his hips into your mouth, face fucking you.
The sounds of you being abused filled the room, but you didn't mind one bit. Saliva slid down your chin, tears brimmed your eyes and he swore he fell in love with you right then and there.
The sight of you alone was making him near his peak. His hips faltered for a second before he released, his nut spilling out your mouth and down your throat.
His groans filled the small room. His body slightly trembling at the release.
"Fuckin hell pretty girl."
His voice was so horse, just barely above a whisper.
He picked you up and held you flush against him, backing the two of you to the nearest wall.
Not wanting to waist another second you reached between the two of you and grabbed his dick, surprising him. You slid his tip up and down your entrance, not wanting to wait on his permission or guidance. You needed him now.
He slid in with ease, you were clenched around him, molding perfectly to him. It felt like you where made specifically for him. He sunk right into you, finding a steady pace immediately.
His forearms were hooked under your knees as he railed you into the wall. You were seeing stars, unable to form a sentence.
You didn't know if it was from doing yoga before hand or because the two of you hadn't seen each other in four days, but you were in pure ecstasy.
Everything about him in this moment was making you loose control of all your senses. Your voices tangling together to make a harmony of pleasure.
He was getting closer and closer to your g spot with each thrust. Your head was thrown back into the wall as he nipped at your neck. leaving trail of kisses and love marks all over your chest.
"Tell me how much you like this shit girl, making all that fucking noise in here, but can't talk?"
He was driving you crazy, where was this aggressiveness at before that you were seeking from him? Was that all he needed was a little push and a green light to fuck you silly ?
"Fuck me Josh, right there- fuckk."
"Nah fuck that what's my name girl."
He got you.
He knew you hated saying that shit, but for whatever reason he got it out of you when he was tearing you out the frame.
A tear slipped down your cheek, from pure pleasure. You were in heaven and so close.
"Say my fucking name Bella or imma stop."
"FUCK."
"Uhuh get it out baby." He was grunting against your neck as you continued screaming everything but what he wanted to hear.
"You got 5 seconds."
His pace really slowed too, causing your heart to leap forward.
"Joshuaa."
"Say it, I want to hear you say my name girl."
He always knew how to get what he wanted.
"FUCK DADDY FUCK ME RIGHT THERE GOD."
A stupid shit eating grin spread across his face , as tears where streaming down your face at this point.
"Take all daddy nut pretty girl, such a good girl."
He kissed every inch of your neck he had access to as you came down for your high.He held you in place as your eyes fluttered.
"I hate you you know that."
He chuckled, "what was that brat?"
Trying to swat at him was useless because he only flipped you over his shoulder, and stepped into the bathroom at the back of the room.
Still holding onto you he ran the water and stepped in.
Without warning he bent you over, smacking your ass. The ripples sent blood rushing down to his dick.
"What are you doing-
You felt his tip pushing past your still soaked and sensitive entrance. Your tried to arch your back to get out of his grasp, but he only yanked your head and held you in place.
"Nah this what yo ass get for teasing me earlier."
His voice no longer held a playful octave, he was serious.
As soon as he was all the way in he picked up a relentless and unforgiving pace. His hips snapped into yours.
"J-josh I-im sorry."
"I don't want to hear that shit now, you was smiling all in my face thinking that shit was funny. Now look at yo ass."
Another hard smack landed on your ass as he finished talking.
"Told yo ass don't do that shit."
Another one.
"Imma handle yo lil ass tuhDAY."
And another one, his hand print now visible on your ass.
Your voice was a choked out cry as he fucked you in the shower, hot water blasting on the both of you ,relaxing your muscles even more.
Your legs started to tremble beneath you, threatening to give out due to the harsh pace of Josh fucking you from behind.
His tip was brushing the sweetest spot, a ring of your essence coating his dick at the base.
"I love this shit , I love this shit , fuck Bella , take it."
He was muttering more to himself but hearing the way his hoarse voice was cracking, sent you over the edge , your knees giving out.
Josh picked you up with one arm, your back to his chest as he continued fucking you.
"Look at me."
Your tear stained cheeks craned to meet his dark gaze. Your pussy clenched around his dick at the sight of him. His hair had puffed up but strands of hair clung to his forehead. His lips were pink, swollen and parted, eyes wild.
He was so beautiful.
Dipping his head he caught your lips in a passionate kiss. This time no one fought for dominance, he kissed you slowly as you whimpered into him.
Your legs felt like jelly by now. The knot in your stomach snapped, and you came completely undone for him. Screaming his name, you came all over his dick.
"Fuck I love you Josh oh my god fuck."
You were so fucked out and out of it you didn't even mean to say that, or hear him say:
"I love you too Bella."

Part 2: What is real?
“Do you really think this will help me?”
“Walking around town will help your memories.”
You watched the people walk by. Some were talking on their phones, others were staring at the ground, and several were staring straight ahead. The air was cool, not cold enough, but it was nice.
“You know, we could even go LARP.”
“I think LARP is more your thing than mine, sis.”
“You were playing a cute warrior-princess.”
“You haven’t dragged me to one of those things in years.” She glanced at you out of the corner of his eye. “What?”
“Actually…”
You rolled your eyes.
“Oh, c’mon. Seriously? How much have I missed?”
“Don’t stress yourself out, it’ll all come back.”
“And it’s essential that you come with me?”
“Does your memory of Dory remember the streets?”
“Well played.”
You walked into a park and sat on a bench. You watched the children play with their parents.
“You remember when we escaped from the orphanage?” She asked.
“How could I forget?” You smiled, your hands in your jacket pockets. “I fought the guard while you hacked the computer.”
“You were always the warrior of the two.”
“And you were the one with the brains.”
“How much do you really remember?”
You sighed and looked at a spot on the ground.
“I remember the time you fell in the lake. You cut your ankle on a rock and I had to heal you.”
“So you remember.”
You looked at her, noticing a bit of enthusiasm in the way she said that.
“It’s confusing. I remember the fights, the hunts… But some things are blurry.”
She nodded slowly. You stayed silent for a while, listening to the noise of the town.
“Would it bother you… To leave me here?”
“You sure?”
“Yes. I can go back alone. I already memorized the way back. You go play on the computer.”
“Whatever.” She gave you a smile and stood up. “Remember to call me if you need anything, btch”
You nodded and watched her leave. When you were alone, you continued to look around the place. You had the feeling that someone was watching you, but wherever you looked, no one seemed to be paying attention to you.
You heard a noise behind you and jumped. You saw the carousel, drawing the attention of everyone who passed by. Its lights were bright and its music was loud. You felt immediately attracted and let yourself go. As if under hypnosis, you approached the carousel and watched it go round and round.
“Oh, hello!” A man exclaimed.
You looked behind you, not sure if he was referring to you.
“How are you today?” He asked, approaching you.
“Fine…” You stammered. “Fine…”
“Today is a beautiful day!” He looked around. “Don’t you think so?”
You looked at him curiously. That man knew you.
“Wait…” He set his eyes on you. “Do I look familiar?”
“Of course! I could never forget you… You and your husband, of course.”
“My husband?”
“Yes, yes.” He smiled at you. “He paid double to have the carousel just for the two of you for a whole night.”
You looked at the carousel. Or rather, you looked at its details. Its lights, its seats, its drawings…
“Are you feeling well, young lady?” He asked you.
“Yes.” You shook your head. “The man… My husband.” You corrected. “His name was John?”
“He didn’t tell me his name. I asked him, but he said it wasn’t important. He just came here one afternoon and told me he wanted the carousel to himself that very night.”
“What happened then?”
“He paid me in advance and I waited for him. He came with you.” He pointed at you. “I asked you if it was your anniversary and you two said yes. You seemed to give each other a knowing look before answering, though.”
“How long ago was this?”
He looked at you, unsure if you were serious.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I need you to answer me.”
He nodded, noticing that it was indeed important.
“It was like seven years ago.”
You held your breath at that answer. You looked back at the carousel…
You heard its music getting louder and louder… You looked at the seats, the drawings, the lights…
You watched it go round and round and round. You watched it until it was the only thing illuminated…
You were happy and laughing, going around in circles on the carousel. When you passed by him you waved at him. Your laughs and the repetitive music filled the desolate park.
“Come!” You called out to him.
He shook his head as he watched you with a smile.
“Come or I swear I will bring you back by force!”
On the next ride you expected to see him with both hands in his pockets. But as you passed by, you didn’t find him. You felt hands on your shoulders. You turned around and smiled when you noticed it was him.
He climbed onto the seat next to you and joined hands.
“This is much better than staying down there.” You told him.
He just smiled. You extended your other arm and screamed. It was a cry of liberation, of happiness. He laughed.
“Come on, party pooper! Try it too.”
He looked at the ground and shook his head in amusement.
“Your loss!”
You screamed again. You laughed, and a few seconds later, you heard a scream come from beside you. He had copied your action.
“You see? It feels good.”
He nodded and the carousel never stopped spinning. You rested your head on the fake horse you were sitting on. Despite the annoying music, you let yourself be carried away by the tranquility.
You watched the park spin around you. You didn't spin, the world was spinning.
You turned your gaze and watched him. He seemed to be having fun. He caught you looking at him and smiled at you. You felt your cheeks wet and you didn’t even know why.
You had never felt so alive before as you did at this moment. He brought out the fun girl that lived in you. You thought that girl was under a rusty and forgotten key, but he was able to find and clean it, then open the lock.
You felt so alive by his side…
“Miss!” The man shook your shoulder. “Are you okay?”
You looked at him, somewhat confused. You felt dazed by the unlocked memory.
“Are you okay?” He repeated.
You nodded repeatedly. You walked backwards, still watching the carousel. Then, you turned around and ran to the bunker.
You closed the door and leaned your back against it. You felt agitated from running without stopping the whole way.
“You okay?” Sam asked as he passed by.
You let yourself slide through the door and pulled your knees to you.
“Hey, calm down.” Sam knelt in front of you. “What’s wrong?”
You looked at him in utter terror. Not for him, but for yourself. You felt terror inside yourself.
“Did something bad happen?”
You didn’t answer. You felt weak at that moment. You had never felt what you felt now before. You didn’t know who you were or who the people around you were. You didn’t recognize any place you were going.
The things you should know you didn’t know.
You felt like you were the only enemy you weren’t able to defeat. Right now, you were your own enemy. And that terrified you…
“Calm down. I'll take you to your room.”
He stood up and took his hand. You looked at it doubtfully, but accepted it anyway. He led you upstairs and made you sit on the edge of the bed. You stayed silent for a while while he just caressed your hand with his thumb.
“I won’t say that I understand your pain, because I don’t. But I want you to at least talk to me about it.”
“And what could I tell you?”
“Everything.” He replied.
You sighed.
“All my life I was under my father’s command, learning everything he had to teach me.” You confessed. “I don’t recognize what it’s like to live like…” You looked around the room, a homely and peaceful feel to it. “Like this. I feel like I'm hiding things from myself, do you understand? My body lived, but my mind can’t remember… And that terrifies me.”
“Are you terrified of not recognizing yourself?”
“I’m terrified of looking in the mirror and not knowing if what I see is real.”
“I can assure you that it is.”
“And how are you so sure?”
“Because you’re suffering. If this were a lie, then everything would be perfect.”
You looked at him carefully, thinking about what he said.
“In fiction, everything is perfect. But in reality, nothing is.”
You nodded, understanding his point.
“Everything okay?”
You looked up at Dean, who was leaning against the door frame.
“I was just helping her with something.” Sam replied.
Dean watched the two of you.
“With what, Sammy?”
“A problem.” You replied.
He nodded in understanding, but still didn’t take his eyes off of you. The room became silent. No one knew what to say to Dean’s interruption.
“I think I’m going now.” Sam spoke as he placed his hand on your knee. “You’ll be okay?”
You nodded at him and he stood up. Dean barely looked at him as he passed by.
“What do you need?” You asked when he didn’t speak.
“What do you need?”
“What are you talking about?”
“What happened to you at the park?”
You sighed, giving up. You were about to answer him when you realized something.
“At the park?” You asked.
“Where else?”
“I never mentioned a park.”
“Charlie told me he left you there.” He spoke quickly. “Now tell me what happened to you.”
“You ask so nicely…”
“You know what? Come.”
You looked at him blankly.
“C’mon, come.” He repeated.
You reluctantly stood up and followed him. He walked until he reached what looked like a shooting range.
“What are we doing here?”
He didn’t answer me and walked over to a wall where there were different weapons. There was a machete among them. You grabbed it and examined it.
It was the machete from your vision… Or at least, it was similar.
Dean snatched it from your hands.
“If you’ll at least explain to me what you’re planning to do…”
You caught his attention.
“We’ll practice.”
“I already know how to use a machete, thank you very much.”
He turned to look at you and smiled wistfully. You thought it was the first smile he’d ever given you.
“Then I’ll make you an expert with that.”
He placed the machete in front of you and you watched him suspiciously.
“So what? Is this the part where I cut your head off?”
“I’d rather not.”
“Coward.” You muttered.
You grabbed the machete and stood in front of a mannequin. You got into position, but a chill ran through you when you felt one of Dean’s hands on your hip and the other on your shoulder.
“Straight.”
“I’m straight.”
“No, you’re tense.” You sighed and relaxed your muscles, trying not to think about his touch. “Atta girl.”
He was so close to you that you could feel his breath on your neck.
“Your feet are fine.” He pointed out as he looked you up and down.
You stood your ground, not sure if it was because you didn’t want to fail or because of his closeness.
“Do it.” He whispered in your ear.
You took a deep breath and slashed at the mannequin’s neck, removing its head.
You lowered the machete and smiled, turning to look at him over your shoulder.
“I did it.”
“You did.”
You turned around and looked at him, his touch leaving your body.
“I told you I was good.”
“Yeah, you did.”
You don’t know what prompted you to do it. Maybe the quiet atmosphere of the place, its silence, and Dean’s company, or maybe his touch that you missed, but you hugged him.
His body tensed, not really reacting, before he slowly wrapped his arms around you.
You stayed hugged to him. He seemed to hesitate on whether to keep his arms around you or pull away, but he decided to continue the hug, and you were grateful for that. He hid his face in your neck, closing his eyes as he breathed in your scent.
You don't know how long they've been like this, but neither of them seemed to want to leave each other's side.
You felt like this wasn't the first time.
The whole room went dark, but you were the only ones still lit up.
“Dean?”
“I’ll do it with the lucky machete.” You said as you stood with your back to him.
You got into position.
“Your feet are wrong.” He said as he kicked them.
“You’ll make me fall.”
“Your stance is fine though.” He continued.
“See? I know how to do this, I don’t need you to teach me.”
“Whatever you say.” He commented amused.
He approached you and placed one of his hands on your hip and the other on your arm. Your breathing became heavy as you felt him pressed against you.
“Do it.” He whispered in your ear.
You breathed nervously before giving the first stab. You laughed as you saw the dummy’s head was cut off perfectly.
“I told you. I’m very good.”
“Can you be more arrogant?”
“I’m just saying. My father taught me how to do this when I could barely walk.”
“You mean holding a machete.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
You turned around and he was still holding your hip. You both fell silent. You took in every inch of his face and your hand demanded to run over it. You placed one hand on his hair and the other on his cheek.
“I think we should go.”
“Yeah…”
You should, but the truth was that neither of you wanted to.
He slid his hands down your back, making you shiver. He held your cheeks.
“We have to stop.” You said with difficulty.
“This is wrong…”
“Exactly…”
You both knew it was. You were married after all. But for some strange reason, you wanted to give in to temptation. It would be the first time you would give in to a battle…
He looked at your lips and you closed your eyes. After a few seconds, you felt pressure on your lips. He had just kissed you…
You didn't care about what was around you… What this meant. You didn't even care what I was turning you into.
You had the wrong love waiting at home. Your true love was always here, by your side. It was always him, Dean. So many laughs, compliments, smiles, glances… And you never realized what it really meant.
You didn't want to let go…
Your hands went to his hair and he lifted you up, leaning you against the wall as you wrapped your legs around his hips. He ran his hand down your body, feeling your skin through your clothes, and slipped it into your workout shorts.
“I’ve barely touched you and you’re already wet, sweetness.”
He caressed your clit as he pulled down his pants with his other hand. His cock gleamed in the dark spot and he guided it to your pussy, entering you slowly and deliciously. Your moans filled the room quickly. His thrusts were slow and deep as he held you close with his strong arms, not wanting to let you go. He looked intensely into your eyes. An intensity that promised to love you in the same tone and never leave you.
But this was wrong…
You slowly pulled away from him, still reeling from the memory.
“Is everything okay?” He asked in confusion.
You looked around the room, realizing it was right here and that he was the man you had sex with.
“It’s you…” You whispered.
Dean didn’t miss a word. He's confused, but he must have an idea of what you mean.
“It was real… It wasn’t an illusion…”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He shook his head.
“Yes… Yes you do.” You nodded.
He walked over to you.
“It wasn’t false memories… It really happened.” You told him, as if you were accusing him of something.
He barely looked at you and tried to grab the machete you were still holding, but you stepped back, stopping him.
“Look at me.” You ordered in a firm voice.
His gaze was firmly on the machete as it shifted uncomfortably.
“Look at me!”
Dean refused to look at you as his jaw tightened. He looked like a little boy who was being scolded for something he had clearly done.
“Please…”
You think it was the first time in your life that you begged. You walked up to him and placed the machete on the ground. He had two options. He could choose to leave or stay.
“Please…”
Finally, he slowly raised his gaze and looked at your eyes, noticing that you were begging. If he knew you as well as you suspected, then he would know that you would never have said please, unless it was important.
“None of that happened.”
“No…”
“I’m sorry I can’t help you.”
He picked up the machete and walked towards the exit. You stood in the same place, then dropped to the ground and held your head with both hands.
You could no longer tell the difference between what was real and what wasn’t. You didn’t know whether to trust him or yourself.
You felt defeated, even without putting up a fight…

The flotsam and jetsam of our digital queries and transactions, the flurry of electrons flitting about, warm the medium of air. Heat is the waste product of computation, and if left unchecked, it becomes a foil to the workings of digital civilization. Heat must therefore be relentlessly abated to keep the engine of the digital thrumming in a constant state, 24 hours a day, every day. To quell this thermodynamic threat, data centers overwhelmingly rely on air conditioning, a mechanical process that refrigerates the gaseous medium of air, so that it can displace or lift perilous heat away from computers. Today, power-hungry computer room air conditioners (CRACs) or computer room air handlers (CRAHs) are staples of even the most advanced data centers. In North America, most data centers draw power from “dirty” electricity grids, especially in Virginia’s “data center alley,” the site of 70 percent of the world’s internet traffic in 2019. To cool, the Cloud burns carbon, what Jeffrey Moro calls an “elemental irony.” In most data centers today, cooling accounts for greater than 40 percent of electricity usage.
[...]
The Cloud now has a greater carbon footprint than the airline industry. A single data center can consume the equivalent electricity of 50,000 homes. At 200 terawatt hours (TWh) annually, data centers collectively devour more energy than some nation-states. Today, the electricity utilized by data centers accounts for 0.3 percent of overall carbon emissions, and if we extend our accounting to include networked devices like laptops, smartphones, and tablets, the total shifts to 2 percent of global carbon emissions. Why so much energy? Beyond cooling, the energy requirements of data centers are vast. To meet the pledge to customers that their data and cloud services will be available anytime, anywhere, data centers are designed to be hyper-redundant: If one system fails, another is ready to take its place at a moment’s notice, to prevent a disruption in user experiences. Like Tom’s air conditioners idling in a low-power state, ready to rev up when things get too hot, the data center is a Russian doll of redundancies: redundant power systems like diesel generators, redundant servers ready to take over computational processes should others become unexpectedly unavailable, and so forth. In some cases, only 6 to 12 percent of energy consumed is devoted to active computational processes. The remainder is allocated to cooling and maintaining chains upon chains of redundant fail-safes to prevent costly downtime.

My Opinion about Barbara Gordon as Oracle.
Oracle is a great character. Don't get me wrong.
My issue has nothing to do with her disability but more on how her writers and fans brag about her job and position in the DCU in an arrogant way.
I've met a lot of toxic barbara gordon fans who think she's an untouchable goddess who everyone has to worship and who thinks she runs the entire universe.
Again Oracle is a great character but I don't like it when her writers and fans ignore, sideline, and dumb down other dc characters to prop her up.
I think she's a bit overhyped and her role is over-exagerrated.
let me explain.
Her fans think she's the brain of the DCU.
I disagree with this.
Barbara is smart but I refuse to believe she's DC's no. 1 most smartest character when the Brainiac Family, Lex Luthor, Detective Chimp and Mr Terrific are right there.
Her fans think she's the one and only tech support and central hub of information for the entire dc superhero community.
Who gave Barbara this title?
In what world where 10 billion+ people exist, is it possible to only have 1 person capable of using technology and providing information to people.
I don't think Barbara is that special.
There are plenty of DC Characters who know how to use a computer.
Who know how to research.
Who know how to hack.
Who know how to communicate with other heroes.
Who know how to use technologies
The Brainiac Family, Lex Luthor, Cyborg, Mr. Terrific, Danny Chase, Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake, Luke Fox, Blue Bettle, Green Arrow, Atom etc.
and Governments exist in dc too!!! There's literally Amanda Waller!
Batman has the Bat-computer in his Batcave
The Titans have a huge computer at Titans Tower.
The Justice League has the watchtower which has even installed highly advanced off world technologies.
You expect me to believe these characters don't use their own computers and resources and just wait on Barbara to hand feed them information???
Why are her writers and fans ignoring all these other intelligent tech users and information brokers in DC?
Why are they making Barbara the center of their universe.
Reastically, A lot of characters don't really need Barbara to do things for them.
They can do what she does.
A lot of DC teams have fully functioned and stood on their own without her help.
Her fans always say she's a huge part of the Justice League and Suicide Squad.
Yes she is a member but she's not an integral part of those teams and I'm sorry but she's not easily remembered as a member of those teams. She's forgettable.
Nobody knows who Oracle is outside of comics.
Oracle doesn't even exists in multiple Justice League and Suicide Squad cartoon shows and movies.
Again Barbara is a great character but her role and importance is over-exagerrated.
And I don't know if this is the right word but she looks like a cloutchaser to me since she's often shoehorned into other character's histories and into other teams she has nothing to do with to maintain her relevance. Worse she dumbs down characters along the way to justify her presence.
just like What Tom Taylor did in the Titans book when he shoehorned her into their team despite the fact that she's not a Titan and she's not needed. They literally already have Cyborg for tech support 🙁 what's worse is that Cyborg got sidelined to make her look more useful to the team.
Again I don't hate Barbara.
I just don't like the constant bias towards her.
I do think Barbara is Gotham's information hub, but I don't think she's the queen of the entire dc universe.
Overall i think she's better on her own with her own original supporting cast because Every other hero she touches gets dumbed down to prop her up including Dick.
Dick is an intelligent detective and he's also a good hacker. He's even hacked an alien computer before but the second he gets paired with Barbara, he stays away from technologies and gets dumber so he can be the himbo muscle and she can be the Brains behind their operation 🙁

Writing Notes: Science Fiction
Tumblr media
Science fiction - a genre of speculative fiction that contains imagined elements that don’t exist in the real world.
It spans a wide range of themes that often explore time travel, space travel, are set in the future, and deal with the consequences of technological and scientific advances
Subgenres & Related Genres of Science Fiction
Fantasy fiction: Sci-fi stories inspired by mythology and folklore that often include elements of magic.
Supernatural fiction: Sci-fi stories about secret knowledge or hidden abilities that include witchcraft, spiritualism, and psychic abilities.
Utopian fiction: Sci-fi stories about civilizations the authors deem to be perfect, ideal societies. Utopian fiction is often satirical.
Dystopian fiction: Sci-fi stories about societies the authors deem to be problematic for things like government rules, poverty, or oppression.
Space opera: A play on the term “soap opera,” sci-fi stories that take place in outer space and center around conflict, romance, and adventure.
Space western: Sci-fi stories that blend elements of science fiction with elements of the western genre.
Cyberpunk: Sci-fi stories that juxtapose advanced technology with less advanced, broken down society.
Steampunk: Blend technology with steam-powered machinery.
Classic Elements of a Science Fiction Novel
Time travel
Teleportation
Mind control, telepathy, and telekinesis
Aliens, extraterrestrial lifeforms, and mutants
Space travel and exploration
Interplanetary warfare
Parallel universes
Fictional worlds
Alternative histories
Speculative technology
Superintelligent computers and robots
Tips for Science Fiction Writers
Draw inspiration for your story from real life. Take an idea from current society and move it a little further down the road. Even if human beings are short-term thinkers, fiction can anticipate and extrapolate into multiple versions of the future.
Do some research. It may seem paradoxical, but research will strengthen your project, no matter how far you end up straying from historical facts. Conducting research too early in the drafting process can sidetrack or slow down the plot, but it’s critical to keep your reader immersed in and believing the world you’ve created. Getting the details wrong can throw off their belief in your story.
Create a set of rules for the world of your novel—and stick to them. Sci-fi is not automatically interesting; it must be made compelling, plausible, and accurate within its own set of rules. Rules add weight to the material or change the stakes for your characters and/or readers. Once you establish a rule, if you break it, you break the illusion of a believable and compelling world.
Keep it grounded in reality. Any technological or fantastical element in sci-fi should have roots in what our current species can already do or is on the road to being able to do.
The History of Science Fiction Literature
The science fiction genre dates back to the second century.
A True Story, written by the Syrian satirist Lucian, is thought to be the first sci-fi story, which explored other universes and extraterrestrial lifeforms.
Modern science developed during the Age of Enlightenment, and writers reacted to scientific and technological advancements with a wave of sci-fi stories like New Atlantis by Francis Bacon (1627), Somnium by Johannes Kepler (1634), and Comical History of the States and Empires of the Moon by Cyrano de Bergerac (1657).
Classic Science Fiction Novels to Know & Read
Familiarize yourself with these classic works of science fiction that inspired novelists and screenwriters in many different genres. Many have been turned into movies and television shows:
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (1870): features underwater exploration and a technologically advanced submarine—two things that were primitive at the time the novel was written.
The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells (1898): tells the story of Martians invading Earth and includes themes of space, science, and astronomy.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley (1932): set in a futuristic dystopian world with many scientific developments where people are genetically modified.
Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell (1938): tells the story of an alien creature that’s a shape-shifter and has the gift of telepathy.
Foundation by Isaac Asimov (1942): follows a galactic civilization after their empire collapses.
1984 by George Orwell (1949): set in a dystopian version of the year 1984 where the world has succumbed to extreme levels of government interference in daily lives.
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (1953): set in a futuristic dystopian society where books are banned and will be burned if found.
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein (1961): tells the story of a human who was born on Mars and raised by Martians who comes to live on Earth.
The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick (1962): set 15 years after the end of World War II, offers an alternate history of what could happen if the Axis Powers had defeated the Allied Powers.
Dune by Frank Herbert (1965): set in an interstellar society in the distant future.
2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke (1968): tells the story of ancient aliens who travel the galaxy and help develop intelligent life forms in other worlds.
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (1985): tells the story of the women who lose their rights after a totalitarian state overthrows the U.S. government.
Common Characteristics of Science Fiction
Science fiction is often called the “literature of ideas.”
Sci-fi novels include a wide variety of futuristic concepts.
Since they’re so imaginative, anything is possible, especially in soft sci-fi novels.
It can be about space, time travel, aliens, or time-traveling aliens in space.
Regardless of the setting and characters, all sci-fi stories are complex, contain nuanced detail, and explore larger themes and commentary—sometimes satirically—about society beneath the surface.
Hard Science Fiction vs Soft Science Fiction
Science fiction is divided into 2 broad categories:
Hard sci-fi novels are based on scientific fact. They’re inspired by “hard” natural sciences like physics, chemistry, and astronomy.
Soft sci-fi novels can be two things: Either they are not scientifically accurate or they’re inspired by “soft” social sciences like psychology, anthropology, and sociology.
The terms are somewhat flexible, but they help readers quickly understand the foundation of a novel and what to expect from it.
