Cyclonis and the Cyclonian Royal Family

Aka I gave this girl a family and then had to figure out why so many of them are absent from the show. This was the second most popular option in that poll I posted, so here we go.

I headcanon Cyclonia to be a matriarchy. Every ruler of the Empire since its founding has been a woman, with rare exceptions when the men take the position of regents for one reason or another. Even if the firstborn of a generation is a boy, they will never have a claim to the throne.

Queen Alyka Prosperis was the second ruler of Cyclonia after its founding as a kingdom. She was gifted the throne by First Queen Marinia, as they were close friends prior to Marinia's death. Since then Alyka's descendants have ruled Cyclonia and its expanding empire in one of the longest-running bloodlines in recorded history. No one is entirely sure who her partner was, who helped father the bloodline.

Master Polaris is a black mark on the royal family's history. Many say she cursed all the men in her family to take the form of monsters, in a fit of jealousy towards her brother Hemlock. Ever since then, the men of Cyclonia's royal family have been sickly and weak.

Cyclonis's great-grandmother is Master Roburis. Originally the youngest of four sisters, Roburis was not expected to rise to power. Then a plague hit Cyclonia, devastating the royal family and leaving her as the last survivor of her sisters. She wasn't a particularly attentive mother to her daughter, Morrigan, and some sources say she's the one to blame for instigating war with the Free Atmos, only to palm off the fallout onto the next generation.

Empress Morrigan Anarchis started her reign with the goal of doing better than her mother. Instead, she lead Cyclonia into a 50 year war that didn't end with her death, and repeated history by handing it off to Cyclonis. There are rumours that she orchestrated the assassination of her own husband and let the Sky Knights take blame for it in an incident that almost killed her only child, Cyclamen. She wasn't particularly popular as a ruler when she died, in fact it was no secret that the public greatly favoured Dark Ace over her.

Delphinium Cyclonis was seen as a symbol of hope for Cyclonia. A chance to finally end the war one way or another, but unfortunately she proved to be just as bullheaded as her grandmother. More concerned with learning new magical secrets and accessing the far side than actually ruling her Empire, it all ended in disaster after Cyclonia Rising. Now her brothers Larkspur and Cardin (Cardin largely belongs to @ashe-alter, thank you for helping me figure out these brothers :3) are struggling to pick up the pieces.

Ashe's parents? Friends? First job? Hardest day of work? Most boring thing ever experienced? Day they're most proud of? Various other things you haven't been asked about but want to be asked about so you have an excuse to talk about those details?

Ashe's parents: Arachne, Daughter of Anarchis and Damocles, Prince of Xerxxes. I made Arachne because I misread Anarchis's name and decided I liked the name enough to keep it. Technically, this means Ashe is the rightful heir to the throne, but due to Arachne getting herself banished, Ashe was passed over for Cyclonis. Damocles is the jealous younger brother to the king of Xerxxes. He married Arachne in hopes of getting closer to the throne, and he is very sour that Arachne got herself, and him by extention, banished.

Her friends: she has a lot. The main ones being Aerrow and Cyclonis, as they all grew up together. She considered the storm hawks her friends, too. Though she does often butt heads with Piper over crystals.

First job and hardest day of work: ho boy, that's a hard one to answer. Most of my fic takes place during the time of the series, so she's between 13 and 15.

So doesn't really have a job unless you count the Storm Hawks thing. So let's go with that as her first job. She's the medic for the team, and her hardest day was either storm warning or second chances. For storm warning, she argues with Piper a lot. She knows what the crate of crystals is right away and tells Piper as much, but she's not the mage, and Piper isn't willing to listen to her. It causes even more tension than what's already present between them.

In second chances, Carver uses the fact that Ashe is Dark Ace's sister as 'proof' she's the one who put the mind control crystal on Aerrow. She also argues with Piper and Carver that the crystal is a fake and is not nice in the end when she is proved correct. She ends up chased off the Condor anyways and runs to her brother for safety and comfort. This episode ends up being pretty brutal in my fic as Aerrow does almost die in it.

Most boring thing ever experienced: a lecture on the history of skyknights given by Harrier. No one asked for it. He just decided that they needed to know the Rexian version of history before they left the terra after the Phoenix crystal challenge.

She fell asleep not even a third of the way through.

Day she's most proud of: the day she learned how to perform a Crescendo (stealing @far-side-skies name because I love it and we not exclusively calling it a skyknight move)

Various things I want to share: Why would you open a flood gate like that? I thank you.

The main thing I really want to talk about would be her powers. Ashe is a Syphon. Which is a type of crystal mage with inborn abilities. They are born almost always under a solar eclipse, and they have a relationship with crystals that no other mage has. Ashe can hear crystals and harmonize them without the use of tools. This is something that causes tension between Ashe and Piper. Since Piper is the mage of the team and not Ashe but Ashe almost always knows what a crystal does and what it is without having to run any tests because she can hear the crystals structure and it's unique song.

Horrible fact of the day: Chevron just released a new boat fuel that WILL give you cancer.

Not "might", not "could", WILL. It has a cancer ratio of 1.3:1, as in, in a group of 10 people, 10 would contract CANCER.

(Edit: apparently some articles are now saying 1.4:1, and some are saying a little under that. Either way, the consensus seems to be anywhere between a 95-100+% of contracting cancer, with some expectations of this fuel not even needing a full lifetime of exposure for you to get Cancer.)

The EPA's safety limit is 1:1,000,000 as in 1 in a million people get cancer.

The EPA approved it anyways. I am not joking. The EPA approved a boat fuel that has a near 100% chance of giving someone cancer. It has such a good chance of giving someone cancer that if you DIDN'T get cancer YOU WOULD BE AN OUTLIER.

Fuck the oil industries.

genuinely think everyone would benefit from learning about aromanticism and relationship anarchy. even straight, allosexual, alloromantics. because amatonormativity affects everyone, and learning about relationship anarchy and redefining how you think about relationships is so freeing. youcan do whatever you want 4ever.
