Fan Fiction Recommendations
I figured I’d take the time to put down some of my favorite fan fictions for anyone who wants them. I am only putting up completed series, with a few exceptions. And I’ll add more as I think about it. Make sure to give the authors lots of love! They deserve it!
Also, let me know if any links do not work.
Star Wars
✶ Alpha-17 ✶
➤ Alpha-17/Female Reader
Yours
By @wanderinginksplot
Rating: Teen and Mature Reader was assigned to Kamino to do some administrative work for the senate, and when her presence draws some of the clones to try their inexperienced flirting with her Alpha volunteers to scare them away. This story single-handedly turned my attention towards Alpha works. It is a slow burn filled with great banter and I really enjoy Alpha’s characterization here.

I wanted to write something for Andor, so in lieu of any requested prompts I chose one from this list. Here’s a little piece about Cassian and Mon Mothma.
Sparkling + Andor
It was a beautiful view.
Coruscant spread itself out beneath the widest window of the Chandrilian Embassy like a sparkling multicolored sea, blue depths and silver heights lined and crossed by motes of color across the visible spectrum. Whole worlds that would have filled dozens of smaller planets were encompassed in the planet-city, squared off and stacked one atop the other like the rock cairns Chandrilian children built along river banks. Over the centuries these unique worlds, these enclaves of cultures from across the galaxy, had been further compressed, their edges melding into one another, some rising towards the stratosphere, some sinking towards the crust.
If she had had the time years earlier to stand at the window as she was doing now, Mon Mothma might have appreciated the view. Not that she had more time now: on the contrary, time was running out. It occurred to her that there were so many things she had missed, dashing from committee to committee, vote to vote. She had thought she was rushing to cover everything, to let nothing slip; now she realized everything that truly mattered had eluded her and fallen between the cracks, crushed like those communities in the substratum of the city, pushed into darkness by the weight of the loftier things up above.
The view took Mon’s breath away. But it wasn’t the breathlessness of awe that left her feeling as light-headed as a diver who’d ventured too deep, lungs aching in a panic for air. Despite the multitude of lights, thick as stars, all Mon could see was darkness. Coruscant was built on corruption: that was the material pushing the highest towers towards the sky. The corruption of the Empire was but the largest layer in a strata of rot that reached down to the very core of the planet. Perhaps to the core of every planet. Wherever sentient species built communities, developed commerce, formed governments to rule themselves and their neighbors, corruption wormed its way in, growing from a germ into a full-blown infection. Corrupt thoughts became corrupt deeds, small acts at first that merely bent the rules, cheated a neighbor, gained an edge over someone else’s honest toil. Like floors of permacrete, the corruption built: individuals joined a criminal gang that ruled a zone, criminal gangs linked to form syndicates that spanned systems, corporations threaded with corruption staked unlawful claims to vast swathes of resource-rich territory. And from the highest pinnacle, the Empire’s corruption pressed down and pulled up: extracting, pushing, draining, wasting, grinding up everyone and everything and exerting a weight so exhausting that people lost the energy required for rage.
Staggering amounts of corruption. Palpatine’s. The corpos. The syndicates. Her own.
Where had her corruption first taken hold? In the lie that was her marriage to Perrin? In all the times she’d turned a blind eye, buying aid for one planet by letting corruption oppress another for a little longer? She hadn’t thought of it as corruption at the time, but as compromise, holding her nose through unpleasant business so she could sneak some small good past the grasping hands and watchful eyes. She had always used her power to help others. But having power, and holding it, was itself an act of corruption in the present system. Living with wealth, sleeping in comfort, while tens of thousands could not, fed the slow growth of corruption in the soul.
Now she stood on the threshold of the greatest compromise she’d ever been forced to swallow, the highest stakes swap of one precious hope for another. The value of the commodities being traded this time were immeasurable and she could not look away from the seedy details of the transaction, not when it was happening within the very walls of her home. Was the good that might come of it worth the astronomical price? Could the salvation of billions ever make up for the sale of one soul? Maybe, but Mon could only consider it the ultimate act of corruption. There was no betrayal more damning than one rooted in love.
The lights of Coruscant merged into one dull indistinguishable blur beyond the film of Mon’s tears, but it didn’t matter. There was nothing to see outside that broad Embassy window except a dying city, built of venality and lies.
***
A sea breeze blew in over the sand, ruffling Cassian’s hair the way Maarva’s fingers had when, as a child, he’d sat bent over a data pad, learning his Aurebesh letters. He could still see, with startling clarity, the indulgent warmth of her smile, and he struggled to swallow. Melshi had already walked away and Cassian could let the tears flow. But he’d learned long ago that there was some pain too severe to even allow for crying.
Instead Cassian turned and looked out at the ocean. Rows upon rows of breakers rolled, mild and orderly, towards the beach. The sun of Niamos was setting, shading the sky a soft pink as it sank and sparkling on the edges of the waves like molten gold. He didn’t want to find anything to admire in the view - a single positive thought in the depth of his grief seemed like a betrayal - but Cassian couldn’t help it. He didn’t know how, couldn’t quite believe it, but there was something of Maarva there at that moment. Something in the unapologetic vibrancy of the pink sky. Something in the stubborn forward momentum of the waves. Something in the boisterous chatter of the seabirds out on the sand, the call of one to another echoing Maarva’s brash laughter.
Cassian didn’t know if Maarva had ever visited Niamos. But she was there now, with him. Wherever he went, he knew she always would be.
He faced the ocean squarely, drew the salty air into his lungs, feeling it expand his chest and brace him up, scrubbing the last of Narkina 5 from his skin.
Yes, it was a beautiful view.

My hand was the one you reached for (Cassian Andor X reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: angst, canon character death,
Words:440
“Cassian! Please don’t do this. This is a suicide mission.” She had managed to catch up to him after nearly chasing him across the base.
“I have to, the Rebellion needs me!” He says with an exasperated simile on his face. “It’ll be fine.”
“What about me, I need you, there’s no way you’re going to get the plans for that thing and survive!” She was desperate for him to hear her. to give the job to another unlucky guy, but she knows he won’t.
“Always remember us, always remember this.” Cassian takes her hands in his and squeezes them tightly. His chocolate brown eyes looking into hers, full of love and hope.
“I vowed not to cry anymore, not after everything” She says softly as she feels the sting of tears in her eyes.
“Shh…we just have to have hope. Fight for a better future.” Cassian reminds her. he presses a kiss to her knuckles.  “Remember when you said I have to trust more freely? Can you trust me to come home to you?” She laughs and shakes her head at him.
“You were playin' with fire, still are as far as I can tell.” She mutters. “Fine, but you better come home.” She sighs. Cassian pulls her in for a tight embrace.
“We’re going to win this darling. I know it.” Cassian smiles at her.
“I hope so.” She chuckles.
“I know so.” He said lovingly.
~
When she found out what happened on Scarif She was devastated, but she fought harder than ever over the next several years. With hard work and determination, they did win. She stood on the surface of Endor as the sky lit up with fire. But her hands felt empty, without his hand in hers. One day like many before she went to the memorial of the fallen Rebels on Coruscant, it was the closest place to a grave site she had to visit. She sat on one of the benches. She looked up to the sky.
“Cassian…I can’t Believe it’s been 5 years since…Since I lost you. You have no idea how much I miss you. I thought the worst was over, but these days filled with nothing, with keeping the peace and governing? I almost miss the war. Mostly I miss you. I know you’d want me to move on with my life, but…It feels impossible, I vowed I would always be yours, I can’t see myself with anyone else. I can’t.” She spoke to nothing, but for a brief moment she feels the breeze move around her, a familiar warmth, a gentle embrace. Then the feeling passes. She smiled.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first night he saw you, he knew nothing was going to stop you. The first time you walked into the room, he could tell you decided that he were going to be yours. He saw it in your eyes, the way you looked him up and down, a twinkle in your eyes. And, he didn’t mind. He didn’t mind, because it was you. There was a warmth to you, a sort of kindness, that he hadn’t experienced in so long. Cassian Andor had become accustomed to coldness and distance and being kept at arm’s length. It was the nature of his profession. One doesn’t become a spy for the Rebellion by cozying up to people. Though, he mused, it had worked well enough for you.
He remembered you tripping over your feet as you walked by the booth he was sat at. He remembered practically jumping out of his seat, reaching out, steadying you, stopping you from falling flat on your face. He remembered your quiet gasp at the feeling of his hands on your waist. (He remembered wanting you to make that sound again and again and again.) He remembered offering you a seat at his booth, the way you smiled appreciatively at him.
“Do I get to know the name of the kind gentleman who’s helped me?” you asked as you settled in your seat, your eyes practically twinkling as you peered over at him.
“I don’t know how much of a gentleman I am,” he said. That much was true. He had seen too many things, done too many things, to be called a gentleman. That part of him wanted to run the other way, if only to preserve you. You didn’t deserve to be tainted by him.
“Perhaps because you don’t see yourself the way others see you.”
“Perhaps because I know how others see me,” he said.
“Let me convince you otherwise,” you practically purred, leaning in closer to him.
He swallowed hard, realizing how close you were to him. He had been sitting alone in a booth before you came over, his arm slung over the back of it, his legs spread out, taking up more room than perhaps was necessary. He had resumed that position after he helped you, finding it more comfortable than any other way he could have sat. Now, you were mere inches away, practically tucked under his arm. You were close enough that he could smell the soap you used. He could smell how you were clean and fresh. Did you really want to be dirtied by him?
“Cassian,” he said. Would he regret this? Perhaps. But, Maker, he wanted to feel something good for once. “My name is Cassian.”
“Well, Cassian, I think you and I are going to have a lot of fun together.”
He wanted to laugh at the thought. Fun? During times like these? It seemed more like a far flung hope than anything that could become reality. But as he looked at you, he wanted to believe it. He wanted to have a life that was simple, carefree, fun. He wanted it all.
“Then lead the way.”
You became a near permanent fixture in his life after that. It wasn’t uncommon for you to appear when he was least expecting it, presenting him with a gift you’d found for him on a mission, or telling him a story about a mistake a rookie made, or struggling to tell a joke to him because you can’t stop giggling your way through it. It made him wonder where you had been before. It made him wonder what life had been like before you.
Being around you was nice. Cassian was used to slipping into the background. He was used to going unnoticed. He used to prefer it. But then you came around. And you saw him. You heard him. You remembered him. When he mentioned that he was going on a mission with someone he hated, you always offered him something nice when he got back. When he could barely keep his eyes open but still needed to work, you would bring him caf with cream because you knew he couldn’t stand the bitter taste of the drink but still enjoyed the energy it would bring him. When the nights were quiet and he found himself in your bunk, desperately seeking comfort, you would let him lay on your chest, card your fingers through his hair, and let him talk about the life he used to have, the life he long since left behind.
Now that you were a part of his life, Cassian wasn’t quite sure he could ever live without you. He didn’t want to.
Sometimes, he wondered what he should call what he had with you. Was it a relationship? Were the two of you just friends? It certainly felt like something more. Should he ask you for clarification? Or should he let it be? Why kick a gift horse in the mouth, after all?
The answer became clear, however, when after months of dancing through his feelings, the two of you were assigned to a mission together. As excited as Cassian was to have a reason to spend time with you, he nevertheless dreaded the mission. It was relatively simple. An Imperial ball was to be held. You would go in as the entertainment, he would go in as a member of the waitstaff. If you remained as the entertainment, it wouldn’t be so bad. But Cassian knew that you would have to sidle up to an Imperial officer, look at the bastard with the sweet eyes you reserved for him, so you could retrieve invaluable information.
Worse, perhaps, was how much you seemed to be enjoying yourself. You giggled and laughed and smiled at the officer. You leaned into his side, ran your fingers along his jaw. You leaned in close, whispered into his ear. Worse, you climbed onto the officer’s lap, locking eyes with Cassian, It took everything in him not to blow his cover right then and there.
That night, you didn’t leave his bunk as he told you over and over and over again that he was yours, that you were his.
In the morning, he woke before you. You had stolen the sheets in the middle of the night, leaving Cassian with only a corner of the blanket covering him below the waist. He didn’t mind. He would give anything for you. He shuffled closer to you, pulling your body against his. You let a contented noise, smiling in your sleep. Oh. He liked that.
Cassian lifted his hand, caressing your face. He ran his thumb over the swell of your cheek. A rare smile, a smile that became more common in your presence, settled on his face. He liked how soft you were. He liked knowing that you trusted him with that softness. It made him feel like he was a good man.
As he admired you, you slowly opened your eyes, your smile growing as you realized he was still there. “Good morning, handsome,” you said, your voice thick with tiredness.
“Did you sleep well?” he asked, leaning his forehead against yours.
“Mhm,” you hummed. You nuzzled your face into the spot where his neck met his shoulder. His breath hitched at the feeling of your breath tickling him. “Can I tell you something?”
“Of course,” he said without missing a beat. “You can tell me anything.”
“When we first met…none of it was accidental.” You lifted your head, watching closely for his reaction. “When I first saw you, I decided that nothing was going to stop me until you were mine. Everything from that point forward was a carefully laid plan.”
Cassian huffed out a laugh, shaking his head. A smirk settled on his face as he said, “You think I don’t know? You had my heart at the first step in your plan. Or, perhaps, at the first trip in your plan.”
“You knew? And…you didn’t mind?” you asked.
“I’ve known this entire time you were a mastermind,” he confirmed. “And I love that most about you.”
A smile stretched across your face. “You know, I recall saying that you and I were going to have a lot of fun.”
“Oh? I think you should live up to that promise, don’t you?”
And, Maker, you did. Because you were a mastermind, and he was happily yours.

20!
Thanks for the ask 💜
Here’s the list of asks.
20. 4 sentences from your work that you’re proud of
Oh my, this is fun and difficult...I can't pick 4 sentences, so is it ok if I share 4 moments...???
I've been rereading some of my fics for a project, and I have to say, some of my early stuff pains me LOL. I feel like I've grown a lot as a writer. My most recent fic, Cassian's Reckoning, feels like my best work so far (I'm sure in a few years it will make me squirm). There are a lot of parts from it that I'm proud of.
Cassian's Reckoning
“You swallow your pain.” Tarkin’s brow arched severely with amusement. “You almost never scream.” He strode forward until he was towering over the rebel. “What kind of man endures relentless torment with nary a sound?” He hooked a finger under Andor’s chin and forced his head up. “We created you, didn’t we? Hung your father in the town square. Sent you to prison as a child. Let your mother die as our suffocating grip tightened around Ferrix. And countless other perceived wrongs not in our official records.”
Cassian burned with rage at the mention of these painful memories and the casualness with which the Grand Moff paraded them out like afterthoughts. His youth had crumbled with each loss, a childhood, a family, stolen by the Empire. Andor began to shake with emotion, with a fire he had never been able to fully stamp out. He couldn’t hold it back any longer.
His father had hung in the Ferrix snow for weeks. Cassian had to walk by the body nearly every day on his way to school.
And his mother, her love as sharp and enduring as her pointed opinions, had died cold and alone, without her son by her side for comfort.
The Jedi and His Duchess
He was desperate to make her see reason. “They won’t just kill you, Satine.”
His tone made her pause, and she finally looked into eyes as he spoke the brutal truth.
“The insurgents don’t just want you dead, they want you destroyed. They’ll make an example of you. They’ll shame you, rip you to shreds, destroy your legacy before they murder you in a public square so all of Mandalore can watch. You won’t die a martyr, Satine. You’ll die for nothing.”
The Dark Side of Obi-Wan Kenobi Part 2
Obi-Wan searched his heart, hoping to convince himself that his theory was wrong, but no argument was strong enough to dissuade him. The Council had isolated him, starved him, forced him to relive torture and explore the darkest recesses of his mind. Perhaps their true intention was to force him to confront and defeat the Dark Side that resided in him, but they were sorely misguided if they thought such a simple approach would destroy something so powerful. Whether it was intentional or not, the Jedi Council had led him down a darker path than they realized. They had provoked him, provoked the evil that lived inside him. And now it had grown so big and so powerful that he was no longer certain where he ended and it began.
Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Loth Wolf
So, whether or not it killed him, he would accept his fate. At least this way his death would be part of a larger, exquisite cycle that was more meaningful than his personal triumphs.
And here's a snippet from a fic I've been working on that I am SO EXCITED to eventually share with you. It doesn't have a name yet.
Because you cannot move forward until you are honest with yourself.
Obi-Wan didn’t know where the thought came from; it just seemed to pop into his head.
He suddenly felt a rush of emotion like a dam breaking. It wasn’t doubt. He did not doubt. He knew with all his heart that he was meant to be a Jedi.
It was fear.
Deep, pressing, suffocating fear.
Fear of the unknown. Fear of loss. Fear of not being good enough or strong enough. Fear of failure.
He feared history repeating itself.
He feared failing Anakin.
Obi-Wan began to shake uncontrollably as his pulse began to race. Did a man full of fear have the right to call himself a Jedi? Throughout his entire life he had been able to control his fear, but now he had been taken to the brink, right to the exposed edge where his master had slipped into the abyss, leaving him standing alone in a waking nightmare. And Kenobi was left with fear dripping from him like a residue, like a toxin that had no antidote.

Your Unusual Alliance story feels a lot like Andor. If Tech and Layna were in that show, what would they be doing?
Oooo, thank you!!! What a super awesome compliment as I definitely see many parallels when I watch Andor and also because it's like some of the best Star Wars ever!!! So this is a bit of a predictable answer, but I think Tech and Layna would be doing the same thing that they are doing in An Unusual Alliance, fighting the Empire, together. Though I would hope they stay away from Kreegyr and the Ghorman Front! (I hope those things get explained more!) I think they are smart enough to do their own thing and cause trouble as outliers, but for good. And not gonna lie, I do wish they worked with Mon Mothma in a bit more closer and official way in my story in retrospect, lol. Something to ponder for a sequel perhaps. ;)
But I do love the parallels: there seem to be a lot of different cells not all working with one another (though in my story they are beginning to), atrocities that make Imperials and anyone with an ounce of morality and critical thought to think twice about the Empire, characters that are not force users but just regular people, and many characters from the canonical saga that are in the show and UA. Though I might have to do a little rewriting once both my story and the show are finished.
I'm really trying my best to get Chapter 57 of 60 done and hopefully make the finale worth all of the previous chapters investment. If anyone hasn't read it yet but wants to, you can find Chapter 1 of An Unusual Alliance here.
I went overboard with my answer, sorry! But thank you so much for your kind ask and getting my creative meiloorun juices flowing to get cracking on the last few chapters. Ha! I truly appreciate it so much!!! <3<3<3

i think my biggest frustration with the way many fans discuss star wars is the disdain they have for the genre of the movies and the way they dismiss the context for why they are the way they are. there's almost a contempt for the stylistic choices made; they wish that the movies were more like action movies than heroic space fantasy.
i like that they are stylized. i like the genre. i do not wish they were different. it surprises people when talking to them about star wars when i'm not eager to rag on the movies for repetitive or silly dialogue or things like that. it's like a large part of star wars fans love to hate star wars for being star wars. i am not part of that group.
i think that the star wars: magic of myth exhibition book is a great read that provides much essential context. there's a quote in there from science fiction author brian aldiss who defined 'space opera' in 1974:
Ideally, the Earth must be in peril, there must be a quest and a man to meet the mighty hour. That man must confront aliens and exotic creatures. Space must flow past the ports like wine from a pitcher. Blood must run down the palace steps, and ships launch out into the louring dark. There must be a woman fairer than the skies and a villain darker than the Black Hole. And all must come right in the end.
lucas's project is not realism, he is not a character-driven director! he is concerened with cinema as the moving image, loves speed and visual impact, soaring music and clear archetypal action. his dialogue is not naturalistic patter, just as the costumes are not streetwear. it's a movie shaped by its references to flash gordon and buck rogers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's melodramatic and obvious in its narrative goals, there's no secret to whether or not darth vader or the emperor are bad guys, you know? it's not about parsing their intentions, it's about how their dark looming figures fills the screen and enters the public consciousness as avatars of evil. luke, leia, obi-wan, all wearing white, are heroes to inspire and emulate.
those who dislike an elevated artifical style, who only want andor rather than flash gordon, are engaging with the material in a way that's simply different from the way i am, so we just talk past each other lol

The Tragedy of the CX Troopers and the Missed Opportunity to Teach Us All an Important Lesson
A deeper look into how the CX-Troopers were handled in the Bad Batch and the narrative surrounding them that unfortunately got dropped in season 3
I want to start off by applauding the Bad Batch for the brave attempt to tackle dark topics throughout the series and presenting them in a way that is appropriate for families to watch and discuss with their children. Most of series is successful in being just dark enough to raise tension but to also keep things suitable for a child’s first glimpse into the harsh realities of life. However there still a few places that missed the mark.
The one I wish to cover today is the inconsistent narrative surrounding the CX-Troopers. I’m not here to say it was bad writing per se, but if a dark topic is discussed in a family oriented tv series, it is best to commit adequate time to truly flesh it out so the messaging is clear. Subjective is great in a mature series like Andor, but kids lack the life experience required to read between the lines.
And yes, exposition does make dialogue sound clunky at times, but there is a reason why most cartoons in the 80s had the kind of “The more you know” lesson after each episode. The Bad Batch was no different. Tech’s speech in the Crossing and his encouragement to Omega at the end of Retrieval are perfect examples of this.
In my opinion, there was an opportunity for an important lesson to be learned from the CX Troopers that was brought up but left unfinished. These shadow operatives could have been a way to show the viewer how anyone can be “brainwashed” either by force or by clever manipulation.
One operative in season 2 called himself a “Believer” which seems to evoke he was forcibly submerged into a cult-like indoctrination. It’s also why I prefer to use the phrase “coercive persuasion” or “forced persuasion” instead of brainwashing as they are a more accurate description of the process that has been historically implemented by governments, cults, and captors in order to make good people believe in or do horrible things.
Dr. Hemlock’s use of forced persuasion on select clones to turn them into CX-Troopers is a interesting look into the real world and well-documented cases of brainwashing within fascist regimes; especially in wartime settings. It is common and disturbing tactic implemented in moments of great despair and something that deserves more focus within the narrative if it is to be brought up as a major plot point.
Most of the brainwashing aspects in the Bad Batch were rapidly glossed over probably due to time and budget constraints, and not so much by the dark and disturbing imagery. One can easily get the “idea across” without showing it explicitly. (Like Crosshair having his hand chopped off. We didn’t see it but yeah, we get the gist).
I will say however, that despite the mystery surrounding brainwashing in the CX-Program, one of the more poignant moments was Captain Rex telling a caught CX Trooper that he was still their brother and that they would help him. It was a beautiful show of compassion and introduced new plot element; that the soldiers who undergo forced persuasion could possibly be reached or even saved.
It’s not a stretch to believe that the Bad Batch would take this route given the series had built up “we don’t leave our own behind” as one of the main themes. It would also be safe to say that saving fictional heroes from brainwashing gives us hope that real life survivors can recover from such trauma.
It was one of the many reasons fans were led to believe that the mysterious CX-2 operative could have been Tech or Cody. The focus on this particular shadow operative gave rise to speculation that he was different, that there was something coming to shed light or hope that a lost soldier could be found and rescued; something that would make sense of it were a character we already cared greatly about.
Alas, CX-2 was kept a mystery box that gave no insight to the tragic nature of his existence nor gave us a reason to mourn his death. That is why the battle between the Bad Batch and Hemlock’s Batch of secret operatives felt rushed and incomplete to some viewers. There wasn’t proper time for the story to breathe beyond “One Batch is good, the other Batch is bad.”
There were simply too many dropped narratives throughout the final season that reduced the whole CX Trooper plot to a video game-esque final boss battle. Don’t get me wrong, it was an amazing fight, beautifully animated, terrifying, and intense; but nevertheless, it felt hollow because the build-up went nowhere.
At that’s exactly where the narrative around the tragic nature of brainwashing got lost.
It’s important for you to know that I’m not saying the Bad Batch killing these operatives in the final fight was wrong. I’m also not saying that they should have tried to reach out to save these Shadow Operatives in the middle of of a life and death situation. It’s just unfortunate that we were never given a reason to feel anything other than relief that the CX-Troopers were killed.
And yes, this is a show about the Bad Batch and not brainwashed mystery troopers, but I stress, the writing set up these characters and introduced a very dark and disturbing concept to young viewers. With more time and effort spent on the narrative, it could have been an important lesson that applies to real life.
Coercive Persuasion is not a fantasy concept. It is very very real. Sleep deprivation, isolation, abuse, constant interrogation, drugging, shame, and humiliation, are all various means to break down a person’s will and forcibly persuade them into believing anything.
One can simply look to how many people get forced into false confessions by unethical police practices, or those who end up committing atrocities due to cult leader manipulation. A more common and less obvious example is social media outlets designed to spin conspiracy theories; coercing people into believing anything they want, like like the Earth is flat and microchips were put in Covid vaccines. By preying upon people’s anger and fear, these sites cultivate distrust and can lead one to extremist thinking.
This is real world, dark and scary stuff that needs to be handled with serious care and consideration of bringing it into an animated Star Wars series.
So given more time and budget, how could this lesson be shown through the story of the Bad Batch? How could these brainwashed operatives been presented in a way to that is scary but still gives younger audiences a way to sympathize with them?
Shedding more light on a terrifying process would remind us the CX-Troopers are victims and despite their terrifying nature, they still deserve our compassion and empathy. So giving the operatives more of a backstory is a good start.
For Example:
Showing the transformation of at least one of these operatives before the final battle would provide more emotional impact after their demise. Having kids clearly, and not subjectively, understand that under those cool costumes there used to be good men is such an important lesson. It reinforces the narrative that the real villains aren’t these soldiers but the regime that warped their minds and forced them into mindless monsters.
To be clear, this a a family series and I am in no way implying that a clear visual of lengthy torture would be acceptable. There are already hints through Crosshair’s PTSD and that is enough to get the idea across.
My suggestion would have been to place the sniper clone who eventually became CX-2 in the cell next to Crosshair while on Tantis. The viewer gradually sees these two men go back and forth to their cells after these conditioning sessions and the witness bond that forms between them. Crosshair is forced to see CX-2’s identity slip more and more away after each session until he is no longer the person he once was. The sadness and loss of seeing this man lose his identity not only leaves a mark on Crosshair, but by the viewer as well.
The scene of the shadow operative watching Crosshair on Tantiss and the one shadow operative calling him “brother” would have made more sense in retrospect. In addition, having an emotional and clear connection between Crosshair and the man who became CX-2, would have given their epic fight on top of the waterfall more emotional weight. CX-2’s line “You could have been one of us. You made the wrong choice” would be more resonant to the viewer. CX-2 would literally be a sniper shadow operative that Crosshair could have become verses a subjective mystery box.
To further this narrative and Crosshair’s character arc, making the above change to the story could have also opened the door to Crosshair eventually saving this lost brother. Omega’s determination to never give up on Crosshair could have resulted in Crosshair reaching out to CX-2 and eventually getting through to him before the final battle. It would have been so emotional and fulfilling.
And yet…as lovely as that would have been, I realize the above scenario would require at least one additional episode; which the animation team probably didn’t have the luxury or the budget to do. So I’ll offer another solution:
Adding a few minutes here and there during season 2 and the beginning of season 3 dedicated to Hemlock’s treatment to the CX-Troopers and other Clone prisoners would give the viewer a clearer picture into the nature of the CX Program. The result would be that the feeling of triumph wouldn’t be seeing the shadow operatives lying dead on the floor but knowing that the experimentation on the clones at Tantiss by Dr. Hemlock was finally over.
So in conclusion:
It’s a shame that the shadow operatives were left a mystery and simply became foils and metaphors. The fight at the end was nothing more than the Batch having to kill or be killed and it failed to showcase a serious topic with less black and white thinking.
With more time, the writers could have explored the tragedy of forced coercion. Discussing a difficult subject in a manner fit for young audiences could leave them with awareness when they are faced with a similar real world scenario.
The CX-Trooper plot could have also been a good way for a parent to discuss what coercive persuasion does to people; especially in today’s world where social media is rife with bad people luring in youth and manipulating their anger and fear into extremist thinking.
Think about it.
How does someone get so isolated that they fall prey to extremism and they end up committing acts of terrorism? How does one get indoctrinated into a cult and become so brainwashed that they take their own lives or the lives of others at the behest of a cult leader? How would an innocent person sign a confession of a crime they didn’t commit?
These are all good questions that people often ask after horrendous real life events and can regularly be seen on the daily news and social media. Having a fictional metaphor for scary real world issues that children could easily understand would be exactly the kind of thing Star Wars was created for. It was also created to give children and all of us hope.
So in the end, the lesson should have been that people who fall victim to brainwashing aren’t weak or gullible. They have been put through extreme duress and put through unethical means of isolation and manipulation.
And if there is hope for even one of the CX-Troopers to be saved, we as a society should have empathy and try to reach out to those in our own lives who have been a victim of coercive persuasion before writing them off.
Disclaimer:
One thing I’ve learned in life is that platforms like Twitter are not places for deep discussions and good faith arguments. You have a set number of letters to get your ideas across and interpreting the meaning or tone always leads to misunderstandings.
That is why I’m coming to to Tumblr to discuss my deep dives into season 3 of the Bad Batch. I am the type of person who doesn’t like angry, confrontational sparring over ideas.
My goal is to shed light on a different perspective; not to make anyone agree with me, but just to understand that we can all watch the same show and interpret things differently due to our own life experiences. By explaining my viewpoints, I’m showing you into my thought process. You are certainly free to disagree but I’m not trying to change your feelings on the matter, nor do I wish for anyone to forcibly change mine.
We can all exist in the same space and I encourage anyone who has a different view to write an analysis of their own instead of arguing in anyone’s comment section. Be kind and respectful and most of all, remember this is fiction and subjective interpretation. There are so many things to be really angry about in the world and Star Wars is the least of our worries.
Cheers and as always, May the Force be with you!

Writeblr Intro
Hello, ladies and gentlemen and assorted others of Writeblr! I am R. J. Copeland, 21, he/they, and I just landed here on Tumblr not too long ago. I have been chipping away at the first entry in my fantasy novel series since September of 2022, and I joined this platform in the hopes of befriending some fellow literarily-minded folks.
What’s my deal here:
I mostly write fantasy, though I do have some sci fi on the back burner
My current serious work in progress is a fantasy novel which I intend to turn into seven books.
But what’s that WIP about? Well, it’s what you get when the author’s favorite show is The Expanse, but they clicked better with the aesthetics of the ATLA universe, plus watched The Owl House, Andor, Carnival Row, and Steven Universe. Oh and they play Paradox map games (but it’s ok because I have good politics I swear guys trust me bro)
The actual story is that of a twin brother and sister’s grand adventure across the waters of their colonized homeland, as they discover ancient cosmic beings and learn magic. But all is not well, as you might have gathered—and I don’t just mean the state actors enforcing the will of empire. A deeper threat stirs outside of the knowledge of humanity. One that may someday force a reckoning….
I also write fan fiction, of which I’m ashamed; so until it’s posted, that shit is top secret. Even though it’s not even nsfw so what am I worried about
Otherwise, I’m just looking to make some friends here. I am very hyped to meet some fellow writers!
I might not be able to respond immediately, but I am very open to receiving messages from anyone; so long as they are not a bot or a scammer, of course.
I wish you all happy writing, and I hope to see you around!

I don’t know if this counts as a hot take or not, but does anyone else feel that “Andor” is the geekiest of the four live-action Star Wars shows? I know that sounds strange since Andor is the most serious of the four and features the least cameos/easter eggs, but hear me out.
Mando, Boba, and Obi-Wan we’re definitely going for more of the nostalgia factor with the cameos and easter eggs. But Andor, because the show is so serious, feels like an actual exploration of the Star Wars universe. They actually took the time to explain the stuff that we would just see in the background, such as the mapping system, how civilians live on Coruscant, and the various factions of the Rebel Alliance. Also, the series managed to blend in aspects of the Prequel and the Original Trilogies in a way that feels natural. The show doesn’t call out stuff from either trilogy (“Hey look fans, it’s Mon Mothma! Clap that she’s here!”), they just treat the Star Wars universe as any other fictional universe.
I guess what I mean is that Mando, Boba, and Obi-Wan, at times, feel like they were written by an exec who wanted to cash in on people’s nostalgia for Star Wars, whereas Andor feels like it was written by a genuine fan who spent years developing the lore for the universe.

Help! I have a fic idea and I can’t get up!
The story kind of has Mulan vibes but really only in the fake identity in a wartime way and I'm not even sure it'd last the whole fic.
My problem comes in when I try to think of who the ML should be - I think this story would fit into so many universes so I'm unsure who to pick! But I'm really feeling Poe or Cassian for the ✨️fantasy✨️rules that I can extort for any all all reasons.
(***Disclaimer: I've added the men I've written for before and am familiar enough with to not make them too OOC. I have a very specific scene already plotted out in my head, so unfortunately masked daddies like The Mandalorian won't work :/
I have not been obsessed with a lot of guys in media lately and also don't consume a lot of media either :/ so please keep your suggestions to the bigger franchises. And still no guarantees that I know who you're talking about 😅 But maybe a suggestion will job my memory!)
