"When you and your fellows launched the Ragnarok and took to the heavens, you…placed your faith in our work. Maybe you didn't have a choice. Maybe that was truly the last option left to mankind. But you─and the rest of the Scions onboard that ship─meant everything to us. Your safe return…meant everything to us. We all gave the Ragnarok strict instructions, you see. We told her to spare nothing in bringing you back. Even if it meant falling apart in the process. …And the old girl listened. Belated though the fanfare may be, allow us to officially welcome you home, [WoL]. You are and always will be the pride of Labyrinthos."

Hi Rose!
In your list of 5 topics you could speak for an hour on with no preparation, one stands out to me as quite different from the rest…
Apollo 11
How did that fascination start? What about the Apollo 11 mission interests you most? Any fun facts I may not know? (I will warn you that I have spent family vacations the past three years at various air and space museums lol)
*stretches, flexes fingers*
KAT. What a great ask. And yes, my love of the Apollo 11 mission - and the entire space race in general - is probably a little at odds with most of my special interests. I'm also very aware of the inherent problems in the space program, as Gil Scott Heron so beautifully articulated at the time in 'Whitey On The Moon'. But it absolutely fascinates me. Warning: nerding out incoming.
I was always aware of little things about the race for space - I share a birthday with poor Laika's ill-fated launch, so all the 'on this day' stuff I devoured as a kid on my birthday involved a poor little Russian dog going off into space and not returning. Definitely not traumatising or weird. (I have a Laika brooch and fridge magnet, though, as a little nod to this.) And I saw Apollo 13 in cinemas, and was always fascinated by the aesthetic of the program.
With the fiftieth anniversary of the Moon landing in 2019 the BBC launched an utterly brilliant podcast series called Thirteen Minutes to the Moon, which had me hooked. (They did a sequel about Apollo 13, too - highly recommended). I found the narrative fascinating and compelling - not a straightforward tale of heroism and American triumph, nor of absolute loathing of their Soviet cosmonaut rivals and colleagues. (A favourite Apollo 11 detail is that Armstrong and Aldrin left a commemorative medal on the surface of the moon for Yuri Gagarin, first man in space, and Vladimir Komarov, another Soviet space pioneer who died tragically young. Hardly the actions of hardcore Cold Warriors...)
After that I read everything I could lay my hands on about the mission and the space program in general. Michael Collins's extraordinary memoir Carrying the Fire confirmed him as my absolute favourite astronaut: erudite, a Francophile, utterly hilarious (he had a tendency to use slang terms like "that cat" and "baby" casually in his communications during the mission) and with a really insightful understanding of his colleagues. He also designed the initial concept for their mission badge - notably refusing the inclusion of their names, as this would have erased the contribution of so many others, and insisting on the olive branch in the eagle's claws as a sign of peace and goodwill for all mankind.
I also adore Andrew Chaikin's A Man on the Moon, which covers the entirety of the Apollo missions. The Smithsonian/Air and Space Museum (of which Collins was the first director!) also made available countless digitised and scanned items linked to the missions, including these natty purses in the shape of the command module from Apollo 11 that were gifted to the wives of the crew. (Yes, I want one.)
The final thing that hooked me? Todd Douglas Miller's beautiful, powerful Apollo 11 documentary, with a score by Matt Morton that is still on my go-to writing soundtracks list. I can't recommend it enough if you haven't seen it. It's an extraordinary piece of work, one that blends the humanity of the people involved with the epic scale of what was being undertaken.
And I think that's what appeals or interests me about it: the risks, the fears, the hopes, the criticisms, the sense of a world waiting and watching to see how this would play out. And that's why I've got a full Saturn V rocket Lego model on top of one of my bookshelves and a Lunar Lander set waiting to be built...
Thank you so much for asking - and apologies for all this nerding out! (I'm guessing you've seen For All Mankind on Apple + - if not, it's a great counterfactual telling of the story.)
#asked and answered#rose is a fucking nerd#not sure if anyone else has noticed#apollo 11#this is why there's an LOS reference in visiting fyi

solangelo headcanons part 11!
Will, as child of Apollo, is as scared of snakes as children of Athena are scared of spiders. He absolutely PANICS.
Nico is very protective of his boyfriend and his instincts always make him grab Will or cover Will with his body whenever some danger occurs.
Once Apollo visited camp and Nico didn’t know about it. He mistook Apollo for Will and he threw his arms around Apollo’s neck. Nico had never been this embarrassed before (Apollo didn’t even realize that this was a mistake).
Will is always mentioned by campers as #1 example of demigods taking after their godly parents. He’s VERY similar to his father. And everyone at CHB knows that the Naomi Solace is ginger, not blond. So him taking after Apollo is very obvious and visible especially that Apollo shows up at camp way more often than other gods.
Nico on the other hand doesn’t seem to inherit any features from his godly parent, as Maria di Angelo also had dark hair and dark eyes, just like Hades. His face also doesn’t evoke associations with his father.
Nico does speak the venetian language (dialect), and he’s as natural with it as with italian, so he’s referring to english as his 3rd language!

Writing Notes: Using Past Tense for Historical Writing
Why Use Past Tense?
Historical writing requires writers to describe and discuss historical events.
When writing about these historical events, a writer should use past tense so the reader knows the events being discussed happened at a previous time and place.
What is Past Tense?
Past tense refers to the use of verbs in a sentence to describe an action that took place at an earlier point in time.
How to Use Past Tense
People commonly use past tense verbs when sharing the events of their daily life with others.
1. The way people tell stories about their personal lives in past tense and the way a writer depicts a historical event are similar:
“Pete went to the store and bought groceries.” “Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense.”
2. While sharing these stories/events, a writer can designate a specific point in time:
“Lisa arrived at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2019.” “Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech on August 28, 1963.”
3. It is possible to indicate the frequency of past actions as well:
“Shannon rarely ate dairy products due to her lactose intolerance.” “Winston Churchill often smoked cigars during his time as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.”
4. Writers should maintain consistent use of past tense when discussing or analyzing such stories or events:
“Kyle watched a recording of the Apollo 11 moon landing as a child, which pushed him down the path to becoming an astronaut.” “Abraham Lincoln’s decision to end slavery impacted the relationship between the North and South.”
When to Use Present Tense
There are some instances when a writer can use present tense in historical writing.
The most common reason to use present tense is when comparing patterns of behavior between the past and the present.
Typically, such comparisons are reserved for concluding sentences or the conclusion paragraph.
“The war on drugs in the 1980s demonstrates the consequences of declaring war on abstract concepts, yet the trend persists.”

SO I'VE JUST WATCHED THIS AND I AM GOING TO GIVE MY THOUGHTS ABOUT EVERY LITTLE THING

First of all, here's the synopsis.

We got a lot of details here !! Tube's Tube. I don't really understand why, but it sounds funny. 12M viens and 12,000,000 likes. Why 12 ? Is it a hint towards à 12th game ? There are currently 11 Ace Attorney games. This vidéo recaps pretty much everything (except the prof Layton crossover...), so it MIGHT point towards a new game :). On the right of "Likes" and "Share" there is "DL|6" :). We cannot see how many subscribers Nick has, but since the video has lots of likes, I think it's safe to assume that he has a good amount of subscribers and that he is possibly a youtuber (in this version of the AA universe at least). On the right we can see 3 other videos : MUST WATCH - Top 3 Bedtime Picture Books by Laurice Deauxnim-Scented Adventures with 3.8K views uploaded 2 weeks ago. We don't know when Nick's video was uploaded (most likely more recently than two weeks) but maybe Larry is a more successful youtuber than Nick ?? Also, I'm pretty sure that Franzy's Whippity-Whip Trip is in this video :). Then we have Her Benevolence dances the Panic Dance by Kingdom of Kura'in Embassy with 3.15M likes and uploaded 1 (idk) ago. Idk who this character is so uh, idk what to say. But "Panic Dance" sounds fun heh. Then we have No Objections Judge's gourmet courthouse specials by His Honor Eats with 2 views uploaded 21 years ago. Poor old Judge :(. Also, Capcom is plastered everywhere. I mean, this video is part of marketing so of course.
Now, let's move on to the actual content of the video !

You. That's you, Phoenix

Wording, Phoenix. Wording.

So Klavier can canonically produce guitar sounds out of thin air ?? I thought it was extradiegetic. Well I guess that's handful when he has to do a concert but forgot his guitar, heh !

This is peak comedy right there. Man I love Ace Attorney.

ACE ATTORNEY AND GHOST TRICK CROSSOVER WHEN ??? (Still gotta play Ghost Trick and finish AA lmao)

This image is cool.

Oh, Nick, honey... that's the kind of reference that I like heheh

I WOULD LIKE TO DISAGREE. ALTHOUGH YOU *COULD* START AT THE APOLLO JUSTICE TRILOGY (I'vo only played the first of this trilogy) WITHOUT BEING TOO LOST, YOU WOULD MISS A LOT OF CHATACTER DEVELOPMENT AND WOULD NOT QUITE UNDERSTAND HOW THE CHATACTERS GOT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

YES PLEASE MILES TELL US ABOUT THE STEEL SAMURAI <3 <3 <3
ALSO ! Turns out that ERIC VALE did Phoenix's voice. ERIC VALE the anime voice actor !!! Thatcis so cool. I didn't recongize Edgeworth's VA (cuz i've only watched the first anime episode + the bloopers) so... idk do your own research I don't care that much honestly. How about the "Objection!" Voiceline actors tho. Who are they. They're the closest to their official voice actors.
Anyways, tl;dr : this is a recap of all of Ace Attorney (minus the Layton crossover) + Ghost Trick. There is the number 12 at the beginning and Ghost Trick is mentionned, so my theory is that they're planning a 12th game which is a Ghost Trick crossover :)

Compiling every ancient source where Medea doesn’t kill her children
Disclaimer: I’m not doing this to delegitimize Euripides’ play, only to bring attention to alternative tellings of the story
Scholia to Euripides’ Medea 9.1-11 (C1st A.D)
“There’s a story from the philosophers that is much repeated—one Parmeniskos also offers—that Euripides changed the murder of the children to Medea because he accepted five talents from the Korinthians. [He claims] that the children of Medea were killed by the Korinthians because they were angry over her ruling the city and they wanted there to be an end of her ruling in Korinth, because it was her paternal [right]. For this reason he changed the [responsibility] to Medea. Hippus presents [accounts] about her residency in Korinth, as does Hellanikos. Eumelos and Simonides report that Medeia ruled Korinth. In his work called On Isthmian Affairs, Mousaios reports that Medeia was immortal, and he explains this also in his work on The Festivals of Hera Akraia.”
264.1-11
“Parmeniskos writes the following for this line: “Because the Korinthian women did not want to be ruled by a barbaric, potion-pouring woman, they conspired against her and [planned] to kill her children, seven boys and seven girls. [Euripides says that she only had two]. They fled, pursued, into the temple of Hera Akraia and they stayed there. But even then the Korinthians did not hold back: they slaughtered all of them at the altar. Then a plague fell over the city, and many bodies were perishing because of a sickness. They received an oracle that the god must be propitiated for the hunt of Medeia’s children. This is why each year during the appointed time seven girls and boys from the noblest families return to the precinct of the goddess and appease their rage—and the anger of the goddess on their behalf—with sacrifices.”
Pausanias, Description of Greece, book 2, chapter 3 (C2nd A.D.)
As you go along another road from the market-place, which leads to Sicyon, you can see on the right of the road a temple and bronze image of Apollo, and a little farther on a well called the Well of Glauce. Into this they say she threw herself in the belief that the water would be a cure for the drugs of Medea. Above this well has been built what is called the Odeum (Music Hall), beside which is the tomb of Medea's children. Their names were Mermerus and Pheres, and they are said to have been stoned to death by the Corinthians owing to the gifts which legend says they brought to Glauce.
[7] But as their death was violent and illegal, the young babies of the Corinthians were destroyed by them until, at the command of the oracle, yearly sacrifices were established in their honor and a figure of Terror was set up. This figure still exists, being the likeness of a woman frightful to look upon but after Corinth was laid waste by the Romans and the old Corinthians were wiped out, the new settlers broke the custom of offering those sacrifices to the sons of Medea, nor do their children cut their hair for them or wear black clothes.
[8] On the occasion referred to Medea went to Athens and married Aegeus, but subsequently she was detected plotting against Theseus and fled from Athens also; coming to the land then called Aria she caused its inhabitants to be named after her Medes. The son, whom she brought with her in her flight to the Arii, they say she had by Aegeus, and that his name was Medus. Hellanicus, however, calls him Polyxenus and says that his father was Jason.
[9] The Greeks have an epic poem called Naupactia. In this Jason is represented as having removed his home after the death of Pelias from Iolcus to Corcyra, and Mermerus, the elder of his children, to have been killed by a lioness while hunting on the mainland opposite. Of Pheres is recorded nothing. But Cinaethon of Lacedaemon, another writer of pedigrees in verse, said that Jason's children by Medea were a son Medeus and a daughter Eriopis; he too, however, gives no further information about these children.
[10] Eumelus said that Helius (Sun) gave the Asopian land to Aloeus and Epliyraea to Aeetes. When Aeetes was departing for Colchis he entrusted his land to Bunus, the son of Hermes and Alcidamea, and when Bunus died Epopeus the son of Aloeus extended his kingdom to include the Ephyraeans. Afterwards, when Corinthus, the son of Marathon, died childless, the Corinthians sent for Medea from Iolcus and bestowed upon her the kingdom.
[11] Through her Jason was king in Corinth, and Medea, as her children were born, carried each to the sanctuary of Hera and concealed them, doing so in the belief that so they would be immortal. At last she learned that her hopes were vain, and at the same time she was detected by Jason. When she begged for pardon he refused it, and sailed away to Iolcus. For these reasons Medea too departed, and handed over the kingdom to Sisyphus.”
Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca (C2nd A.D.)
“Another tradition is that on her flight she left behind her children, who were still infants, setting them as suppliants on the altar of Hera of the Height; but the Corinthians removed them and wounded them to death.”
Semi-relevant bonus:
Scholia to Pindar’s Olympian 13.74g. (C4th-C5th A.D)
"Medea is mentioned because she lived in Corinth and ended a famine that afflicted the Corinthians by sacrificing to Demeter and the Lemnian nymphs. There Zeus fell in love with her, but Medea did not yield, avoiding the anger of Hera. Therefore, Hera promised to make her children immortal. After their deaths, the Corinthians honored them, calling them 'μιξοβαρβάρους' [mixed-barbarians]."
To conclude, some scholarly wisdom:
“Some scholars have argued that Euripides was the first to make Medea directly responsible for killing her children in an act of revenge for Jason’s infidelity, an issue discussed by McDermott (1989, 9–24). Others, such as Michelini (1987), have argued that the innovation in this respect came from an earlier playwright, Neophron, and that Euripides was following a new variant rather than inventing it.”- Medea, Emma Griffiths
P.S: I’m not a classicist, if you know of any source that I’ve missed, please let me know!

Hello!
I was recently inspired to draw an astronaut (specifically in the Apollo 11 Spacewalk suit) but since can’t draw astronauts or human anatomy in general I had to give up. My point being, do you have any tips on how the draw astronauts? Btw I really love your art! You’re one of the first few people I followed on tumblr!
Aw thanks! First off:

Drawing is just making marks. If you can make the marks you want and you know where you want to make them, there's nothing that you can't draw.
Sorry that's not very astronaut-specific, but the way I think about it there's not much difference between drawing an astronaut and drawing, say, a steam train. It's all the same process of studying the real thing to understand first its basic forms and proportions and then its more complex details and then applying that knowledge. The more you understand something, the easier it becomes to play with it.
If you want to draw humans and humanoid things, start by studying the scaffolding, how the bones connect to each other, how they move, and what their relative sizes are. Don't worry about replicating the literal appearance of every bone, just think of it like a stick figure with a box for the ribcage and a box for the pelvis. Then you can layer muscle groups on top of that, skin overtop of muscles, and clothes and astronaut suits on top of it all. Will Weston's figure drawings are my favorite to study for this kind of thing.
There's basically nothing that's off limits when it comes to studying. You can draw from life, draw from a photo, trace the basic shapes on top of photos to get a feel for the proportions, draw from another artist's drawing, etc. It's generally best not to post stuff you trace or otherwise copy (and definitely don't claim it as your own) but it's all fair game for learning. The only thing that won't help you learn is drawing without any reference, since you won't have anything to evaluate your drawings by to see what you're doing right or wrong.
If it helps, here's some stuff I think about when I'm drawing my astronauts:

Holed Stones in English Folk Magic

Sources at the end
Stones with naturally occurring holes in them have many uses in magic all over the world. In England they have been used for protection and luck as well as in medicine. Holed stones are known by many different names, In England they have been and are known by numerous names such as Hag stones, Witch stones, Serpents'/Snakes' eggs, Adder stones, and Lucky stones. For the sake of clarity, I will be referring to them as ‘holed stones’.
Luck and Protection
Holed stones are used as amulets for protection against Hags, witches, faeries, and other spirits, when they are used in this way they are referred to as hag or witch stones. People would hang a holed stone above the door of their home or barn, and sometimes passageways within the home. People would also keep a small holed stone in a pocket for luck and protection.
Holed stones have also been known for being lucky, being worn around the neck for luck or tossed over the shoulder after spitting through the stone's hole to grant a wish. It was also said that is a person tied a holed stone to their house keys, those who resided in the home would be prosperous.
In communities where fishing and/or sailing was common the use of holed stones for protection was common, tying them to the bows of boats or inside of smaller rowing boats for protection while at sea. Holed stones were also used to protect against drowning, Christopher Duffin (2011) writes, “The coxswain of the Ramsay lifeboat [during 1929], also a fisherman by trade, always wore a small discoidal [holed] stone around his neck, threaded with copper wire. The amulet, passed down through three generations of fishermen, was credited with preserving the life of the wearer through terrible maritime circumstances.”
Medicine
As these holed stones protected against hags, witches, faeries, and other spirits they would often be used in medicine, as magic was often thought to be the cause of illness.
One of the illnesses holed stones were used to treat is ‘hag-riding’, in the book A Dictionary of English Folklore it is defined as “a frightening sensation of being held immobile in bed, often by a heavy weight pressing on one’s stomach or chest […] In folklore, it was thought of as a magical attack, though whether by demonic incubus, ghost, harmful fairy, or witch varied according to place and period.” (Simpson & Roud, 2003) Today hag-riding is understood to be sleep paralysis. To treat hag-riding a holed stone would be hung above the bed of the sufferer or, if the sufferer is an animal, placed in a stable.
This belief applied to both humans as well as other animals; hag stones were often used in the treatment of ill livestock. In Lancashire holed stones would be tied to the back of cows to protect them from all forms of harm, “self-holed stones, termed ‘lucky-stones,’ are still suspended over the backs of cows in order that they may be protected from every diabolical influence.” (Harland and Wilkinson 1873).

Nero's Imperial Household HCS
⚠️ Anything about the Gods that are written about here refers specifically to the RRverse. I am in no way talking about the actual deities themselves.
• Son of Hermes
- I'm calling him Dolios for now because it's an epithet of Hermes and it makes it easier to remember him.
- Son of Hermes, either one of the athletic epithets or the Psychopomp epithets.
- About 18 years old? Honestly what even was the age limit of Nero's stepchildren?
- Ok so I'm still confused as to what his powers would be but I'm leaning into the psychopomp side of Hermes. Although I'm also leaning on him being stronger than the average person because there's no way Nero didn't teach his step children to defend themselves without using their powers (Also Hermes is the god of Athletes sooo)
- I headcanon the Hermes kid as the oldest, partially because I don't know who else to make the oldest stepchild of Nero, and partly because I have a feeling that Nero would make the "calmer" cabins (AKA Cabin 11 and Cabin 7) really really feral just so he can showcase his strength in a "Hey I made the kids from the calmer cabins really feral HAHA IMAGINE WHAT I CAN DO" kind of way and also because he's an asshole and can't let kids be kids. Also because Nero's a furry.
• Nero definitely gave all of his stepchildren jewellery that represented their godly parent btw. I headcanon Dolios to have something like this.

Because why not? (And no this is not an excuse to show literally every piece of jewellery I have saved in my pinterest board) Meg has half-moon shaped rings that turn to scimitars but I have no idea what weapon these earrings would turn to so if y'all have any ideas tell me!!
• Lucius
- Nero really wanted the entire world to know who his step childrens' godly parent was huh 😭 Anyways onto his character!
- Son of Apollo, specifically Apollo Nomios.
- 16 to 17 years old (probably).
- LISTEN. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT THERE AREN'T CHILDREN OF APOLLO WHO HAVE SHEPHERDS AS THEIR MORTAL PARENT. HOW DARE RICK FORGET ABOUT BRANCHUS MY BABY. Anyways in my head Lucius's mortal father was a shepherd which is how he attracted Apollo. Again, I'm not sure what powers he would have but he definitely knows how to fight (because like I said, there's no way Nero didn't teach his stepchildren to defend themselves without using their powers). Also he can talk to ravens. And crows. And sheep. Because how come Percy is the only one that can talk to his father's sacred animals? That's unfair!
- I'm pretty sure he is one of the oldest demigods in Nero's Imperial Household? In my mind he's the second oldest out of them all.
• His jewellery is probably something like this bracelet.

It turns into a Gladiator btw. Not sure how that works but then again we have no idea how Meg's rings work either so yeah.
Also a bow and arrow seemed way too basic to me. Like may the Gods forbid that their children use anything other than the ones their godly parents use.
• Aemilia
- At first I got really confused over what godly parent she could have but then I searched up the meaning of her name and.... yeah.
- Daughter of Athena, not sure which epithet tho.
- Same age as Lucius, about 17 years old.
- Oh gods I know damn well that Nero made this girl suffer. Like you already have people having high expectations about Athena kids and then your step parent is NERO. Like this girl was probably given some big ass sum to solve at the age of 7 or something ( WISDOM IS NOT THE SAME AS KNOWLEDGE NERO). Oh my poor little girl. We know next to nothing about her but I'm gonna make her and Lucius my pookies.
- Either the third oldest stepchild in Nero's Imperial Household or the same age as Lucius.
- Not sure what jewellery Nero would give her tho. An owl necklace? Something that looks like this?

What weapon could this even turn into? A shield maybe? Y'know the thing with Medusa? (RR messed up her myth so bad in PJO that now I'm confused as to whether it's following the Greek or Roman myth).
• Hunter of Artemis
- I have absolutely no hcs about her whatsoever because I'm still confused as to who her godly parent could be. Like we know that Meg is supposed to replace Demeter which means that his other stepchildren are also mostly the children of the god they're supposed to replace.
- Still, I'm gonna have to make her a daughter of Diomedes and an ex hunter of Artemis otherwise I don't know how it'll work. I'm not sure about her name either.
- Younger than Aemilia and Lucius by a year or two, so that makes her 15 to 16 years old.
- She and Lucius are probably always paired together since Artemis & Apollo are twins. I'm not sure what power I want to give her so I'd love to know what you guys want her powers to be!
- Third oldest stepchild of Nero.
- Her jewellery turns into a bow and arrow because that's usually the weapon that the Hunters of Artemis use. I HC it to look something like these two.

How would this turn into a bow and arrow you ask? I have no idea!
These are only for the four oldest demigods, if you guys want I'll make one for the others too! (I've basically divided it into 3 parts, there are 4 children in each group and the groups are -Oldest, Middle and Youngest, the same way Apollo divided them)

2023 Rural Dionysia Announcement
Io! The time of the year has come again for the Rural Dionysia!
How to participate
The Rural Dionysia is meant to be a smaller competition than its urban counterpart, as such, we have selected only 3 categories:
Freestyle poetry
Modern hymns
“Complete the fragment”
Freestyle poetry
Your poem can be about any chosen topic (myth, personal experience etc.) in any written format. It doesn't have to be religious in nature.
Modern hymn
An hymn must sing the praises of a deity of your choice. Unlike the "freestyle poetry", your work must be of religious nature to fit in this category.
Complete the Fragment
Each year, we choose a fragment from an Ancient Greek poet to work with. The challenge is that the initial fragment must be included somewhere in your piece in its original order. This means you can fill the gaps however you want, but you can’t switch the order of the words in your piece or remove words from the original fragment.
Here is the fragment selected for this 2023 edition: Paen 16 by Pindar (52q Oxyrhynchus papyrus; late 2nd century AD; trans. William H. Race; Loeb 56)
……………… ] Lord Apollo, .…] for I pray ….] with willing (mind?) to give ….] power suffices and you were judged to be ….] most gentle to mortals.
Here is the Greek text for reference. Note that because the word "mind" is unsure in this translation, it will be acceptable to keep or modify this word.
-
If in doubt for any of these categories, remember that you can check submissions from the previous years to get an idea of how others have done before.
Submitting your piece
Please submit your piece through submissions on this blog. All entries must be tagged for the category they are being submitted to. but you can only choose 1 category per piece and each person may only submit 1 entry per category each year.
Entries must also be tagged for potentially triggering content and squicks. If your entry needs a trigger warning, kindly add them at the end of your submission and we will take care of adding them in. Check the rules below for further information about submissions.
Calendar of the event
Nov. 10: Official announcement and opening of submissions. Dec. 10: Final submission day. Dec. 11: Vote opening. Dec. 18: Vote closing. Dec. 19-20: Announcement of the winners!
No worries though! We will be posting reminders about each step when the time comes.
General rules
Roleplay and fanfic are not acceptable submissions. This is a religious festival, please respect our faith and do not submit an entry if you are roleplaying or writing fanfiction.
Unlike with the City Dionysia, entries do not necessarily have to be about specific deities or Hellenic polytheism except for the “Modern Hymn” category, which has to be dedicated to one or many gods of your choice.
There are no meter restrictions. This is up to the writer.
All stories, myths, and poems must be entered using the submissions button.
All entries must be tagged for the category they are being submitted to. Entries must also be tagged for potentially triggering content and squicks.
An entry may only be submitted to a single category.
Each person may only submit one entry per category each year.
Winners for each category will be decided by popular vote.
Admins of this blog cannot participate, for obvious reasons. As for now, this includes @thegrapeandthefig @verdantlyviolet
Questions about the rules? Check the blog for past answers, your answer might be in there. And if it's not, simply submit an ask. We'll answer in the best delays possible.

Nothing can Separate us from Jesus
Romans 8:35-39
Romans 8:35- Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulations or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or sanger or sword?
1st Corinthians 4:11- To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless.
2nd Corinthians 11:6-7: Even if I am unskilled in speaking, I am not so in knowledge; indeed, in every way we have made thus plain to you in all things or did I commit a sin in humbling myself so that you might be exalted, because I preached God's gospel to you free of charge.
Romans 8:36- As it is written "For your sake we face death all day long we are considered as sheep to be slaughter."
Psalms 44:22- Yet for your sake we are killed all day; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
In reference to Psalms 44:22:
Jeremiah 11:19- I have been like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter, I did not realize that they plotted against me saying let us destroy the tree and its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.
1st Corinthians 4:9- But sometimes I think God has put his apostles display like prisoners of way at the end of a victor's parade condemned to die we have become a spectacle to the entire world to people and angels alike
2nd Corinthians 4:11- For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

Sugar rush
A/N: Requested by @apollo-enthusiast/@myfandomlikesandstories 🧁 here's a cupcake for you because this was really so fun to write and I loved how it turned out, a bit silly and a bit spicy but it's just Jake being a total sweetheart. I hope you like it!
@flufftober - Day 11 Sweet tooth
Pairing: Jake Lockley x reader (mentions of the System)
Word count: 663
CW: Implicit sexy times
Flufftober masterlist
When you leave the comfort of the bed and follow the hall of bookshelves that leads to the kitchen, a smile begins to creep up your lips at the sigh of him. Jake is silent, in his movements and presence, and that’s how you know he’s the one who’s with you now. He’s leaning over the kitchen counter, the paper extended over the table, probably an old one he found lying somewhere around the place, but he’s immersed in the reading anyway.
“Morning,” You walk past him to pour some coffee into your mug, feeling his eyes following your walk. A small jar of cinnamon, the one he adores with his coffee, still stands beside the machine, and you add some to your coffee too, as the taste has begun to become of your liking too.
When you turn around he has done so too, using the edge of the counter as a seat. There’s always a glint of mischief behind Jake’s, from where he looks at you, you see that sparkle that has you giggling into your coffee. “Morning," he responds, his voice still husky, welcoming the new day as warmly as he welcomes you into his embrace. You hold onto his tie as his lips meet yours in a tender morning kiss. His hand slips around your back, pulling you close, taking the chance to give your butt a squeeze that makes you laugh against his lips. He’s the cheekiest of them all, always keeping you on your toes.
In his kiss, though, you taste something else, something sweet that’s not coming from the cinnamon in his coffee. “Wait a second…” You push back, trying to move him to the side so you can peek behind him to confirm your suspicions.
“Wait, no, mi amor!” He grunts, holding your waist tightly to prevent you from seeing, but he’s caught red-handed anyway when you find one of the cupcakes you baked the night before, a bite on it and the whipped cream long gone.
“What happened here?” With the victim in your hands, you show him the cupcake and wait for an answer, the smell of the freshly baked pumpkin spice bread reaching your nose. Your cocked eyebrow shows seriousness, but your grin says otherwise. “I thought you didn’t like sweet stuff?” You ask, referring to the whole system that lives within him.
“Speak for them.” He’s already guilty, he might as well confess his secret.
You gasp with mocking shock, your eyes opening at his reveal. “Jake Lockley, you like sweets?”
“Ah, mierda.” He already knows he’s never going to hear the end of it. “They are comforting, ‘kay?”
“So the brownies?”
Jake points at himself. “Yup.”
“And last week’s cookies?”
Jake nods this time. “They serve for great snacks when I have a drive.”
“Oh my god,” Your heart swelled with this sweet side you hadn’t seen of him. “I always thought it was Steven.”
“Are you mad?” There’s a hint of real concern on his face as he tilts his head to the side to meet your eyes.
“Mad? Jake…” Your hand cups his cheek. “This is, literally, the sweetest thing I’ve heard in my life.”
He sighs relieved. “Good, because I was not going to stop eating those wonderful cookies of yours.”
With a playful twinkle in your eyes and a laugh, you decide to let him off the hook, knowing that his secret sweet tooth is a charming addition to the many layers of the man you love. "Well, in that case," you say, leaning in to steal a sweet kiss from him, ever so slowly licking his lower lip just to draw him into you. "I hope you don’t have anywhere to go soon, ‘cause you're in for a real treat today."
"Good," he replies, his fingers gently squeezing your sides and pulling you even closer, chest to chest. He licks his lips, savoring the taste of you, and whispers, "Those are my favorite kind of treats."

so i've mentioned about my wildstorm to dc transfer idea a ton but.. it's officially complete! it'll be under a read more due to its length.
spoilers for wildstorm's world's end arc but especially for the authority: world's end.
the following concept takes places after the authority: world's end 2008-2010 issue number 17 (year of said comic is 2009).
after jenny quantum absorbed the caged by universe and disappeared, she was left adrift in space/nothingness unconscious. she's woken up by a visually younger version of herself who mouths (since there's no noise in space) how to stabilize and separate herself from the caged baby universe.
she manages to do so but has no idea where she is or how to get back home. with no other ideas in mind and the caged baby universe momentarily shrunken to be put in her pocket, she manipulates quantum reality to travel to infinite city aka the place she created where all past jenny's live.
she asks the other jenny's for help to get back home and they tell her she already knows what to do. before she goes, jenny sparks hands her a couple envelopes and tells her they're for the authority roster (including one for jenny herself).
arriving back on earth, she goes on a journey across the apocalyptic wasteland, following after traces of the doctor. when she finds habib in a self preserving form of slumber, she discovers gaia rothstein aka one of the other century babies there. she sends gaia away, who was too distraught that he wouldn't wake up and didn't allow her to help even in slumber. jenny tells gaia to go find the other century baby and help him.
pulling the caged baby universe out of her pocket, the energy presence (whose disappearance had made habib so hysterical that he fled in the first place) wakes the doctor, thereby snapping him out of his self-preserving state.
they teleport back to the carrier and have a tearful reunion. she tells them about the letters but says they'll have to wait to read them when this is all over.
jenny tells angie to send out duplicates of herself to all (wildstorm) hero/antihero teams to send a message: that everyone on earth who is still alive superpowered or not will be leaving this earth courtesy of herself, citing that there will be multiple invasions from multiversal/alien forces and a multiversal situation that would remove them from earth in the future even if they stayed (she doesn't know yet what this situation is). this references to the imminent sliding albion, kherubim exile aka red blade and daemonite invasions.
putting the caged baby universe back in the carrier, with jenny with habib's hand on her shoulder, they put their powers together to transfer all of wildstorm characters elsewhere (including the carrier) to an unknown place the doctor could sense was habitable and called to him.
using her powers in such quick succession had mentally taxed her enough that she physically becomes 11 years old (chronologically and mentally still 9 years old).
with this change, they are slotted into dc universe as their new home and cannot go back (not that there is anything to go back to). they arrive to dc in the same year they had left their earth (2009), which gives jenny quantum two years to figure out how to prevent the multiversal situation from not coming to fruition (flashpoint).
the carrier resorts to hiding herself again in the safety of the bleed to avoid the new things of this earth and to be where she's more comfortable (so that the justice league watchtower cannot find her). despite that she has the caged baby universe back, she still needs time to heal after everything.
with the new world, they split up not only to see what's up in this new world but also to have that second chance to heal. apollo and midnighter get an apartment in san francisco to give jenny quantum a second chance at a childhood.
in jenny sparks' letter, she named shen to be her successor leading the authority with angie as her second. jenny sparks tells jenny quantum in her letter that she should utilize this second chance to be a jenny her way (referencing how jenny started to smoke and drink after meeting jenny sparks in infinite city), and enjoy her second chance.
swift declares that the authority enters a semi-retired state still with their chaotic neutral/good structure, with them only all coming together to help on world/multiversal ending events. they can still proceed on solo or small group missions for things they feel strongly about doing, they just need to check in.
all the team decides to lay low (though meets up together on the carrier or in their apartments) so that the various teams of this new earth don't know they're here. it's up to other writers for wildstorm characters if they reveal themselves because otherwise, i imagine most of them are hiding and are discovered one by one.
the engineer and swift get an apartment in new york despite that angie also frequently leaves to be on the carrier to work with the shiftship. angie also gave all the team untraceable flip cellphones that they can communicate with just in case anybody on this earth has radiotelepathy.
shen alternates between trying to get a feel for the new skies of the earth for all the things familiar and unfamiliar about it, hanging out in the apartment, or in the carrier to keep her eyes peeled in case any big event needing their attention comes up.
hawksmoor goes off on his own to see all the cities of this new earth, including ones their old earth didn't have (ex: metropolis).
the doctor goes off to explore the new magic of this earth, making sure his connection with the garden of ancestral memory wasn't disturbed by changing earths which connects all that history now to this earth while teaching him all there is about dc's earth too.
apollo and midnighter alternate whether they do solo or group missions together or with others (whether with the team roster or not who do much of the same mission wise), or spend their days with jenny together as a family.
jenny quantum with her free time not with her dads' and since she's stepping back from leading very begrudgingly has to participate by going to school (whether from home or public is her choice). she still teleports to go wherever she wants (including to rock concerts or infinite city).
what do other wildstorm characters do once they arrive to dc? i don't know, whatever they want i guess.
oh and it's not important to the plot but midnighter's flip phone is still bedazzled by jenny and with a hello kitty keychain on it like my original transfer idea. this is important to me.
#dc#dc comics#wildstorm#the authority#buds writing#*scribbling this down in notes*#my friends and i do have brewing ideas for how jenny quantum is involved in flashpoint in the future which is exciting :D#midnighter with the bedazzled flip phone that's got the hello kitty keychain is important. to me.#this canon divergence concept has been my passion project and i'm so happy to see it done!!
