I think it’s really fucked up that I’m seriously vibing with a school friend who is always super kind, compassionate, and understanding, and yet I’m still metaphorically tiptoeing around him because I can’t fathom that he doesn’t secretly hate me and need an excuse to tell me off or something.

A lot of people headcanon that Siffrin was something around 12-14 when the island disappeared, which does make sense. But it’s common enough fanon that I wanted to go back and figure out what’s actually canon!

Lots of evidence and math under the cut, including various things to consider when creating your own hc timeline, but tl;dr:

If we stick to only textual canon, then Siffrin only needs to have been old enough to row a boat, which I would guess to be 6-8. If we take into account the ranges id5 gave for everyone’s ages during canon, he theoretically could’ve been anywhere from 6-25 when the island disappeared. Or if we adhere to everything id5 has said, then he was a “teen” when it happened, so, 13-19.

Siffrin: I ran away from home once! I just didn't want to eat my veggies. And so I took our boat! Got to the beach, rowed away from the shore a bit. I was going to come back right away, I just wanted to scare my parents a bit! I started to row back towards the shore... And then, I...

People often assumes this means Siffrin was fairly young when they left. However, that relies on two assumptions, which are fairly reasonable, sure, but assumptions nonetheless: that they were young when this happened, and that this is when the island disappeared.

While throwing tantrums over vegetables is a stereotypically childish activity, chafing at strict or even well-meaning rules doesn’t belong exclusively to children. There are parents who continue treating their kids the same way even as they grow into teens and even full adults, before they move out or even just while they visit. Which is very frustrating for the kid! So imo it would make perfect sense for a teenager or even a young adult to go, “I can’t believe my parent is still trying to control what I eat like I’m a blinding 10 year old. If they won’t treat me like an adult at home, maybe I’ll prove my independence by leaving for a bit!”

It’s also possible that the event this dialogue refers to ended with Siffrin returning safely home! It’s fun to say that his story trailed off at the moment that the island was forgotten, but it’s possible he only stopped the retelling there because the curse kicked in, just like it would for any childhood memory. Maybe he didn’t get cut off from the island till he ran away for a second time. Maybe he was just on a regular, fully-sanctioned outing when it happened. Maybe he was even with other people. Who knows! Siffrin sure doesn’t!

(Edit: It’s word of god canon that the veggie event was the island’s disappearance, but it doesn’t necessarily affect our timeline anyway.)

I think the only thing this story proves is that Siffrin didn’t leave the island until after they were old enough to row the family boat. Unfortunately I don’t know for sure how old that would be. I did some research and found a couple posts about 6-7 year olds learning how to row, but one of them was using an inflatable raft, and the other was on a rowing team, so I don’t know how the difficulty compares. Young children really are quite good at picking up their parents’ hobbies, so I think even a 4-5 year old could learn how, but they may not be physically capable of handling an adult-size boat. It really comes down to a question of core strength / endurance. Found some posts saying the weight of the boat doesn’t matter as much as the weight of the oars, though, so maybe old fashioned boat vs modern inflatable raft doesn’t matter that much…? So maybe it would be possible for a child to row a small wooden skiff at around age 6-8. Probably not for long, but that just makes it all the more realistic for them to drift farther than they meant to and then struggle to return to shore.

So: Siffrin was at least 6-8 when they left!

Bonnie: I think my village was really close to it!!! My sister said it was all everyone could talk about for weeks!!!

If we assume “my village” means Bambouche, the island disappearance would have to be after Nille ran away with Bonnie, but still long enough ago that Bonnie doesn’t remember it directly. If we define “preteen” as age 10-12, then the longest ago this could possibly be would be 12 years. On the other side, I think it’s reasonable for a 10 year old to not remember a major (but personally irrelevant) event that happened when they were 6, meaning the closest it could be is 4 years ago.

If we follow WoG (word of god) age ranges, then Siffrin is in their “mid to late 20s”, which I’ll define as 24-29. Subtracting our 4-12 years ago range for the island’s disappearance, Siffrin could’ve been at youngest 12-17 and at oldest 20-25. If we stick to only TC (textual canon), I think one could interpret Siffrin as anywhere from 18-35, which would mean they were at youngest 6-23 and at oldest 14-31.

Of course, “my village” could also mean wherever Bonnie and Nille lived before running away. I think the youngest age at which it’s likely for an adult to remember a personally-irrelevant event from their childhood is maybe 5. Nille’s WoG age range is “late teens to early 20s”, which I would define as 16-23, which means the disappearance could be 11-18 years ago. Combining this with our 4-12 range gives us 4-18, meaning WoG Siffrin could have been at youngest 6-11 and at oldest 20-25.

But if we’re only going off of TC, we can say Nille’s as old as we want, so the disappearance just has to be at least 4 years ago for Bonnie to not directly remember.

Isabeau: This article says there's no record of him anywhere... Up until he appeared out of thin air sometime in his adulthood. Looks like he lived in the city of Corbeaux for a few years before he became the King...

According to the change god statue exposition cutscene, the King started his rampage “almost a year ago now”. The way Isabeau says the bit about Corbeaux kind of implies that the King lived other places before that, but not to the point that it’s unreasonable to say he didn’t. So if we define “a few” as 2-4, then the soonest the king could’ve appeared is 3-5 years ago, meaning the island disappeared at least 3 years ago. We already said it has to be at least 4 years ago, so this doesn’t change our math.

How old were Nille and Bonnie when they ran away? How old was Sif when their home got zapped?

But while we’re here, here’s a summary of everything you might want to consider while creating your timeline:

Siffrin must have been at least old enough to row a boat. I’m not an expert in boats but I think it’s reasonable for a kid to be capable of rowing at age 6+, but a 6-8 year old may struggle to maneuver the oars of an adult-sized boat, and wouldn’t be able to row very hard or for very long. Doesn’t necessarily take much effort to get far enough for waves and currents to take you farther, though.

It’s WoG that the veggie event is the island’s disappearance, but if you’re going off of TC, the disappearance could have happened later instead. And a dramatic disagreement over veggies could theoretically happen at any age! Its causes could also range from rather practical (Siffrin is extremely picky and his parents are worried about his health) to pure power struggle (Siffrin just wants more choice in what he eats but his parents just want him to follow the rules they’ve set).

Since the King lived in Corbeaux for “a few” years before his nearly-a-year-long rampage, the island must have disappeared at least 3 years ago.

Since Bonnie remembers Nille telling them about the gossip surrounding the island’s disappearance, I doubt they would’ve forgotten the gossip itself if it had happened somewhat recently. (I think it must have been at least 4 years ago.)

If Bonnie’s reference to “my village” means Bambouche, the disappearance must have occurred after Nille ran away with them.

If Bonnie’s reference to “my village” means wherever they lived with Nille before running away, then the disappearance could be before Bonnie was born. But it would still have to be when Nille was old enough to pay attention to the gossip and remember it for a while. (I think she must have been at least 5 years old when it happened.)

According to id5, Siffrin is in their mid-to-late twenties during the game, and Nille is in their late teens to early twenties.

You can do whatever you want forever, including contradicting textual canon. ^^

haha finally debuting my magical girl marvels au! i was thinking of a manga cover while making this; i really wanted it to have a kinda hyperpop and sailor moon style.

So! In my version of this AU, the Marvels travel through different dimensions to fight the forces of evil to balance the multiversal scale! They do this, via train! The train is usually a subway, but it magically adapts to the dimensions they are in. (Ex. Submarine Looking Train for a mainly water dimension, an old style train for a dimension with a earlier timeline.)

Billy Batson is a Train Conductor! I based his outfit on those train conductor uniforms and I really like it. His main base powers are, of course, lighting, and the ability to make portals! He uses the portals in his fighting style, dodging with portals instead of blocking attacks. Billy can only teleport to a mirror dimension without the aid of the train, so he actually teleports to the mirror dimension in fights when he dodges, then portals back to the og dimension. The train boosts his powers so his ability to travel to the mirror dimension is enhanced, and he can travel to other dimensions when using the train. (Other then that, its a basic portal power lol)

Mary’s design was inspired by fairy tale princes, which is actually really random but I made it work. I wanted the three of them to be different genres of magical girls, but still fit look like they are in the same style. Her base powers in this AU is basically charisma (yes, literal charms), and lightning. So, her charisma powers are pretty much just that people will be more inclined to do things her way; she lets off an aura of power + confidence that no one can say no to (besides Billy and Freddy, they are immune). She also will look extremely intimidating to people when she wants to. So in a nutshell, her power is to change the way people perceive her, and use that to her advantage. Mary often uses this to do undercover work, or info gathering about the dimension they are in.

Freddy, is a mermaid based magical girl. He can shift between having a mermaid tail and his legs. His base powers are hydrokinesis (ability to control water) and (can you guess it?) lightning! Though not shown here, Freddy actually uses water to float himself around. The water is thinly covered over his body and he uses that to get around without his crutches. He learned how to do this after seeing how he can float in the water when swimming. Freddy doesn’t do this all the time because it requires a lot of control and it can tire himself out. He used to do it all the time, but once in a battle, he shifted all his focus into the fight and lost control of the water that makes him float. Freddy learnt to not completely rely on his powers all the time after that. I’ll go more into this specific event later bc I think this scenario would really impact how Freddy sees his disability, and how he learns to accept it. I imagine this Freddy is more recently disabled and that he still has bitter feelings about it. The thing with Freddy’s dad in the boat still happened (they got attacked by one of Billy’s enemies), and that’s when he got his leg injury. He met Billy that way and got his powers. (Basically just how CM3 got his powers.. idk why im explaining it)

The thing is that I, myself, am not disabled so I need a bit of help understanding what that would be like to accurately write Freddy’s struggles with his disability. 😭

Another thing is that I’m not sure what their hero names would be? I tried doing those precure names like ‘Cure Marvel!’ but that would only work for one of them and I would still need names. Marvel *insert something here* or *something* Marvel is an idea but I wouldn’t know what to put.

Some Win or Lose things on my mind:

- in Frank’s episode when he’s texting the girl he met online right before his ex is about to walk in, the blaring alarm going off. Like.. as a viewer I understand it as a warning that *something* is about to happen. (That something being the sudden appearance of Monica). But it was the first time we saw a story telling element like that. The whole thing with Frank’s episode was focused on armor, vivid flashbacks and video game animation for the dating app. So the red flashing alarm confused me for a bit. At first I didn’t know if it was a real alarm going off in the school or a narrative device 💀

- Some people theorize that the woman Frank was texting was Vanessa’s mom??? I didn’t get that impression at all and rewatching the show I still don’t see any signs point to that??

- so does Tom lowkey have a crush on Rochelle? Based on the convo with her mom

- Very specific but I like that we see some of the parents calling it baseball when it’s softball 💀 it just seems like an accurate parent slip to make

- the job interview where Zane attacks the guy after saying “so uh, how flexible are you 😏” didn’t expect that at all but it really be like that irl

- now I know Kai’s story was supposed to focus on her experience transitioning but the creators had to scrap that main story and opted to represent it in a more subtle fashion. Idk how much of that episode was cut/edited and rewritten but when it comes to the scenes of her scratching off what presumably was her deadname on her old glove and her looking fondly at her new one that says “Kai” some people thought that the last episode was the first time James called her Kai. Cause like Kai’s story relies on the dynamic between her and her father and whether or not he accepts her. But actually he already calls her that at the start of her episode. So I’m wondering if maybe some clarity was lost with her timeline because the creators had to switch up the focal point of story.

- Rinna always going off to Brian in Korean? 💀💀 does Brian understand Korean????

- Frank being Rochelle’s favorite teacher, and Rochelle being Frank’s favorite student confirmed 🥹

- there’s an awkward pause when Rochelle is venting to Laurie. The: “do I look buff? Girl yes have you been juicing?! No….” And then there’s a beat of silence lmaoo. What was that??

- okay so the last episode showed the final inning, they’d already had 2 outs and needed a win. Laurie avoided striking out and causing them that 3rd out by making base and then Kai sadly got out after her and everyone lost their minds. So I thought that was the end of the game??? But after everyone calms down they get back on the field to continue the play?? We don’t on screen confirmation of who won the championship but like?? Do I just not know softball cause if that was the final out in the final inning….doesn’t that mean the game is over??

They say let us borrow your keys and then we give them back with your $200 bucks and that’s all….soooo did they actually have $200 bucks to pay her or were they planning on stealing the money she needed from her OWN JOB to give to her??? But that doesn’t make sense. Were they never intending to pay her at all?? Cause they get the keys anyway and we see in the end they were just gonna steal the cash box before Ira takes it and runs. What were they gonna do with the money?

this month, we also witnessed the birth of wei ruolai x ren shaobai pairing. i swear, the yizhan AU universe keeps on expanding! but it’s not our fault that the characters they play match up so well. some are even pairing this new character with ye mi since it’s all about spying. and since we have legend of zanghai release, it’s only logical to pair zanghai up with baili. they have so much in common! they are not physical people — meaning no martial art skills but rely more on their intelligence. they also love to build things and solve puzzles. they are both trying to make their way through court politics and outwit their enemies! what a power couple! there were also so many good edits made by fans with them.

they are two different people. i know it’s easy to forget that and make connections here and there because it’s what we do. we are sensitive to it. however, i hope cpfs become more self-aware of how this can come across. they are both professionals. they take acting seriously. maybe it’s just me. but i find it disrespectful and shallow to say that they “copy” each other acting wise. 🙃

Weird thing to be hung up on but when it comes to fanfics and shipping, if the story takes place in the “Canon” timeline, I can’t really imagine Percy and Annabeth not together or with anyone else. Like both character wise and narratively they’re too interwoven and for each other. Only stories I can really read that have Percy and Annabeth not together are AU or alternate timelines where the characters and events are supposed to be fundamentally different. But because of how much they’ve gone through their relationship with each other is a core part of their characterization, so any story that take place in the canon timeline but doesn’t have them together is already seeming OOC to me.

What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I’m with you. A lot of people say they’d still work as just friends. And while their friendship is my favorite part of their relationship—I love when they refer to each other as their best friend—I don’t see them working long-term as purely platonic, or being able to permanently be with someone else. Sure, they could date other people! They could fall for other people. But marry someone else? Have a different lifelong partner? I just don’t think it would work. People say to marry your best friend for a reason. Chemistry and attraction can fade, but true friendship and partnership? That’s not as fragile. And if someone is truly your life partner, they have to be your #1. Your biggest fan. Your greatest ally. And honestly? I’m not sure anyone else could fill those roles for them better than they do for each other. I can see them staying just friends, but I can't see them choosing other people over each other.

That's the thing about Percy and Annabeth; while their chemistry is very natural and strong, it has never once been “easy” for them to actually be together. They consistently choose each other. The world has tried to tear them apart in so many different ways, so many different times. A child of Poseidon and a child of Athena aren’t even supposed to like each other in the first place. Athena tried keeping them apart. The gods have tried keeping them apart. They’ve both been kidnapped and taken to the other side of the country. They are complete opposites in many ways and were raised extremely differently. And not only are they both very flawed and just overall very difficult people, but they also low-key annoy the crap out of each other lol. So it’s not like being together has ever been a simple or effortless thing for them.

And yet, Percy chose Annabeth to go on every one of his quests with him. Annabeth chose Percy to go on her quest through the Labyrinth with her. When each of them was kidnapped, they chose to follow each other, no matter the distance. Percy chose to fall with her into Tartarus. Annabeth chose to live in New York to be with him. They met each other when they were 12 and since that day, they've never chosen anyone or anything else but one another.

So yeah, no one else could ever understand them the way they understand each other. But their lives and traumas aren’t so deeply interwoven just by chance. They actively chose to go through those horrors side-by-side. And that, combined with their natural chemistry and attraction, makes it hard to imagine them truly working with anyone else. Even when Luke and Rachel played important and slightly romantic roles in their lives, Percy and Annabeth still consistently prioritized each other. And that was before they were even dating.

So it’s not that they couldn’t survive apart or love someone new. It's not that they couldn't be attracted to other people. It's not because they are "perfect." It’s because long-term marriage and relationships can't rely on lust or convenience to last. Things can get complicated and messy and dark real fast. So for a relationship to be strong and to last, even under the harshest of conditions, two people have to choose each other, every single day, no matter what. Over everyone else. And despite the blemishes of their relationship, that is exactly what Percy and Annabeth's entire relationship has been since the first book. Alternate versions where they don’t put each other first feel wrong because it goes against their nature.

I know many people—even Percabeth shippers—disagree, and that's fine! I'm not against shipping them with others or having them remain purely platonic. But for me personally, it just feels wrong and OOC. But to each their own!

Where there any instances on canon (or in a midlly divergent timeline) you could see a character second triggering who didn't canonically, and what do you think the resulting altered power would be like?

Very obvious answer though. Single most likely character to second trigger who didn't is lisa. I wouldn't go as far as to say she should have triggered, because I think that's too far and kind of accusatory but she absolutely could have second triggered during Speck and not for a second would I think it was out of character or unfitting. I mean it would have shattered the pacing but it would fit her character.

There is literally nothing anyone can do to lisa more truly agonizingly torturous than what happened to her in canon. Except for some dead dove fics by figures like Alotoaxolotls and even then it's still close.

The parahumans series is basically about lisa wilbourn triggering from watching her brother die and knowing she could have saved him and didn't and then watching that happen again. Twice.

I think the line "you couldn't have made it easy?" is maybe the single most heartbreaking line in the entire parahumans series for me. The whole pepper spray thing genuinely crushes me every time.

Close second is "this makes me feel really sorry for your dad, because I’m starting to get a sense of what you put him through." Not very pithy, though.

If lisa triggered during speck it probably would have been late, when lisa realizes that she can't be the one to translate for khepri. This is a fucking crushing moment for smugbug fans (platonic or otherwise) because it's truly the moment where lisa had nothing left of taylor (and her facade as the smartest one in the room fully shattered).

If you wanted to put it somewhere else for some reason, maybe you could put it at the point where taylor leaves the undersiders to join the protectorate, but gold morning is just better. Or worse? If both of those are out for some reason then you could look at my fanfic where taylor dies post-leviathan, but that's distinctly divergent from canon, where these other two would just be completely canon until lisa second triggers.

For her second-trigger powers, this I always had trouble with. I'm not sure, cause the problem is that a second trigger has to be powerful compared to a non-second trigger, but still at least a little limited, and if you take like any limits at all away from lisa she basically becomes a god in purple spandex. Practically omnipotent. And that's not very interesting to write, except as a "lisa stomps all of canon" thing I guess.

My first and most comprehensive idea is basically that you increase her capacity for power use, making it way less of a debate whether it's worth it to use her power (it almost always because the tradeoffs are far less significant) but you make it far more prone to misfires or unhelpful tangents, especially about how people around her are lying-to or betraying her! This basically shifts the debate lisa has from "should I use my power?" to "should I trust my power?" The idea being that her power is less reliable but she's necessarily more reliant on it.

The opposite is also a possibility, where her power basically becomes way more reliable and accurate, but she has way less capacity. So it's basically always reliable but she really has to consider whether or not it'd be worth it because she gets very little power use per day. So it's more reliable but she can't rely on it. This one is probably a more concrete upgrade compared to tattletale 1.0 than the machine gun approach to thinker powers.

Since lisa's first trigger is mainly about regret, I guess her second trigger would be mainly about what she regretted. Did she more regret not knowing more or not knowing better? Something like that.

The problem with these is that they're kind of conceptually boring.

A third idea some others have floated around is if she gets an ability to control who suffers the migraine, so she could make others around her suffer the brunt of the migraine instead of her. However, my main gripe with this is that it makes her even more comically powerful than the other two options. Lu Guang is a hypocrite and that’s okay (great even)

I must stand ten toes for this man because I’m noticing the slander that went on in September and I cannot allow it. I know I’m six months late but just bear with me. We are introduced to Lu Guang as a rational, stoic, sort of wise protagonist. The brains of the operation if you will (although Cheng is clever in his own right but that’s a whole other discussion). Qiao Ling and Captain Xiao describe him as more mature. Shiguang’s relationship is strong but it’s structured, especially for their work, to where Cheng has to depend on Lu Guang. Should only do as he says and not do anything impulsive.

And it gets to a point where Cheng doesn’t know what to do without him and when LG isn’t there he relies on his past words to guide him. The thing is, we’ve seen that CXS can come up with great plans and make good decisions without Lu Guang’s voice in his head. Like how he caught Min Liu or planning how save Lu Guang from Li Tianchen. But the story has built LG up so much to be a reliable character so it can’t be untrue. But then the s2 finale happens, Cheng gets shot and Lu Guang loses his mind.

And then the ending basically tells you that he’s been winging it and gambling this whole time. Experimenting with god knows how many timelines, simply using his knowledge from the previous one to see if he’ll get lucky this time. Lu Guang has been playing a crane game. So in a story that is all about mistakes, guilt and regrets. Of showing the imperfections of people. Of showing the struggles of moving forward, of being satisfied with the present. Of sacrificing your sanity, your voice, your desires, and happiness for the people you love. How is this bad writing?

Link click has been tricking the audience to believe Lu Guang is an infallible character.

But Link Click was never about perfect people.

What he’s trying to do is no different from Li Tianchen, one of our antagonists. And I love CXS to fucking pieces but this show raises the question of a life’s value. LG is trying to save Cheng and so refuses to change the past for anyone else. Bc it may alter things and doom CXS in the process and ruin all he’s worked towards. But then you ask yourself, is CXS’s life worth more than the twins' mother? Is it worth more than Chen’s mother? Is it worth more than Emma?

It doesn’t matter because it is to Lu Guang. It’s like the question if your sibling and a mailman are trapped in a burning building but you can only try to save one. Unless they’re the absolute scum of the earth, chances are and possibly even despite that, you’re going to pick your sibling. That don’t mean it’s objectively more valuable than the mailman or you didn’t have sympathy for that person, they have loved ones, hopes and joys too. “Lu Guang is a hypocrite, selfish, unreliable, and a liar” yes he is. Because there is something called ‘flawed characters’. It’s okay for your protagonist to not be the best person. It’s okay to write a protagonist whose trauma has defined some of their actions.

If you’ve been forced to have someone you love die in your arms over and over, why is it surprising that you would lie to them? How is it surprising that you’d try to keep secrets? That you’d set things up to be in a position to control the situation? That’ll force you to plan better so maybe, just maybe things will be different? You think Lu Guang lacks self awareness and doesn’t know what this makes him? Of all things you can call LG, he’s not delusional. He knows the weight of his actions.

Link Click has and always will be a story about people. Where our emotions and choices take us. Lu Guang isn’t a robot so why would he be an exception?

Plus everyone should’ve been knew Lu Guang was sus anyway. Idk how that’s mischaracterization, there’s proof of him lying and keeping secrets from CXS in s1. It doesn’t ruin anything it recontextualizes what we were shown back then.

Just saw Wicked for the second time, and I for once feel very happy to be in this timeline. It’s so good and shows such clear love for the source material. It really shows that making a Wicked adaptation was Jon Chu’a dream project for years before landing the role as director. Even the title card is a clear love letter to tradition of movies he is stepping into. The casting is great, next to zero complaints, and Cynthia and Ariana are incredible. While I don’t necessarily prefer a closeted lesbian read of Glinda (I don’t think the closet exists in Oz and I think her relationship with Fiyero is genuine), Ariana nailed the gay longing and heart eyes that I like to see in a Glinda. I’ve been strapped to the Gelphie train for over a decade, and I don’t plan to get off anytime soon.

The movie’s not perfect, though, and I do have some complaints. They strip back the instrumentation in a lot of the songs, relying very heavily on percussion (seriously, there is a lot of snare). For a score as iconically epic as Wicked’s, the choice is a bit baffling. It exacerbates the jerkiness of the choreography, which is not my favorite. The dancing has a lot of sharp, jarring movements where people are stomping and lunging. Maybe if the music was more orchestral or if the choreography were different or even if they had just chilled it with the stomping folio, it would be fine. But in combination it’s not my favorite.

The bit the add in the middle of One Short Day with the Wizomania performance is pretty musically weak for me. It loses the melody and the momentum of what should be a very high energy number. I get the exposition was important, but the only good part of the scene was the cameos (which I wouldn’t trade for the world).

In general there are a lot of brakes in the middle of songs for added bits, and while some work for me, others really don’t. The repeated interruptions to Defying Gravity devalue the impact a bit. I mean the leads are so talented that they can carry it, but I think the sequence could do with less cutaways to guards running down halls or breaking down doors. I like the idea of slowing several parts of the song, but the cutaways slow down the pacing enough that you kind of start to feel it when they cut the tempo.

The whole span Sentimental Man and the ending of Defying Gravity could be tightened up a bit. I’m happy that they are doing it in two parts, but I think it could have been a 2 hr movie rather than a 2 1/2 hr movie if they stopped trying to make it an action movie.

Hi!! I just attended my first fighter practice with a friend, and I think I’m in love. She leant me enough armor to get a feel for heavy combat, and I sparred with her most recently knighted squire, and it was amazing! What a rush!

Obviously going “all in” is gonna take some time. Kits are expensive, though my friend has mentioned that the barony likes to help newbies make and acquire their first things. But do you have any advice on things I can do now, before I have a kit, to prepare and get better? How do I hold my own as a girl in what tends to be a masculine sport? Also how do you pick a name and an era for your first kit?? There’s so much to consider and history has so many cultures and times! It’s exciting but uhhhh overwhelming.

YAS QUEEN I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!! Welcome to the family! Fighting is so much fun, regardless of skill level, when you have the right people around you. I'm so excited that you have a good group to support and train with.

While you get your kit together, I highly recommend a pell. This is literally a figure that you can swing a stick at for practice so that you develop muscle memory, strength, and endurance. This can be anything that will take a blow and not move or break and risk putting you in danger. When I was a kid, our pell was a railroad tie buried in the ground with tires stacked on on top of it. I have friends who use 4x4 lumber wrapped in foam (something soft helps you from breaking down your stick too quickly). Don't have a rattan stick or sword yet? Use something of equal weight and length - just don't use it on anything BUT your pell.

The fighter community can be an amazing, wholesome, and empowering community. When it comes to being a female fighter, know that some people will support you and treat you like an equal, and some people will want to make an example of you. Some people will do what they can to make you feel like you belong on the field, and some will do what they can to make themselves feel like you've earned the right to be on the field. Remember that this is YOUR game and YOU get to play it the way YOU want to. Don't be afraid to pick and choose who you want to learn from, train with, and fight. Even in my own local group, there are people that I don't fight in practice because I don't learn from them or their approach to fighting a less skilled fighter. I strongly recommend finding either a fellow female fighter OR someone who has experience training with women in martial arts.

My number one tip for new female fighters. At a practice, you will probably hear a lot of "drive from the hip," or "use your hip," from other experienced fighters. Women usually have a lower center of gravity and can rely on their lower body strength more than their counterparts. My advice is to learn to drop your center of gravity and drive from you KNEES. You get more power with your blows that way. Women are normally better at isolating their hip movements, so driving from the hip isn't always as effective for beginner fighters.

When it comes to choosing your persona - honestly? Take your time! There's no timeline that you have to have one by. Try a couple of names out and see what you like. My persona is 13th c. German because I wanted to honor my family heritage and I thought the 13th c. had the prettiest garb of all the German designs. My kit is definitely NOT 13th c. German. It's all over the place, because I chose pieces that are comfortable to wear, fit my budget, serve their purpose, and that I think look cool. A modge-podge of armor is perfectly period for the same reason it is now: it was expensive, hard to come by, and you used what you could get your hands on if you didn't have someone splashing out the cash to buy you a set of your own.

Sometimes fighters have spare pieces that they sell you on the cheap because they love to see new people get involved. Check Play-it-Again Sports or other pre-owned sport equipment centers for lacrosse or hockey padding (or even rapier equipment sometimes). Also, google pickle barrel armor. It will get you most of your stuff covered, but DO NOT SKIMP ON THE HELMET. This will be the most expensive investment you make as a heavy fighter and you want to make sure it is the real deal, because your safety is important. It might take you longer to acquire because of the cost, but dear lord please don’t go cheap on this. I care about you too much.

I don’t know if this is a thing in other Kingdoms, but here there will be yard sales at events where people just want to thin out the “stuff” they’ve collected over the years. These are a gold mind. There are also Facebook Groups that accomplish the same thing, and you can sometimes make some great scores there.

Some people have been playing for decades and have been able to spend those decades investing time and money into this hobby. You aren't going to be expected to be on their level right away. It's GENUINELY about the journey of getting there, not a race to reach it. Some people don't even want to race and are content with the bare minimum, and they have just as much fun.

As a newcomer, I get that you're excited and ready to race in, but don't worry, you have time for all the things. Play your game, make friends, and have fun. And welcome to the dream!

i’m gonna further ramble about taishauna’s relationship:

shauna trusts and relies on tai more than she ever did with jackie, her best friend of years. in season two, shauna looks automatically to tai or calls out to her when she’s scared or wants someone to defend her. tai literally becomes her number one person.

and shauna absolutely was one of tai’s priorities in the early season two as well, there are multiple scenes of tai thinking of shauna even while she’s with van. no there wasn’t any romantic entanglement, but tai was quite literally gearing up to be the baby’s parent. she was thinking about and worrying about shauna above all else.

i also saw someone say that she joined lottie’s circles in solidarity with van, but genuinely, desperately prayed to the wilderness when fearing for shauna’s life. the significance of that can’t be understated.

and after the birth, they hardly had any scenes together. they quite literally paralleled grieving parents whose relationship fell apart after a loss. and further, tai had her own moment of grieving the baby, private except for van to see, even though she kept trying to keep it together in front of shauna.

their relationship is my favorite in the show for a number of reasons, but one of them is how genuinely pure it is. tai’s love for shauna and the baby showed the audience a lot about her truly good, nurturing nature, and the way she cares so much about people and is so motivated by love. and this is important, because people are quick to mischaracterize tai as cold, ruthless, and blinded by ambition.

although it was very shauna focused in season two for obvious reasons, this is also reciprocated. their relationship is so based in mutual love and care for each other, as we see shauna protecting and promising to look after tai as well. it’s such a lovely contrast to jackie and shauna, whose relationship was all about obsession and jealousy.

tldr they mean the world to me and i need more of them in season three, in both timelines.

I have a small question I'd like to... well, ask pertaining it, or more specifically, the AU's Bonnie: How would Canon Siffrin react to them & vice versa? The thought wouldn't leave my mind while thinking of the AU, so I wanted to see if one of the people involved with it could weigh in.

Hi anon! Thank you so much for the question I’m glad you’re enjoying the ageswap au! As for your question on how canon ISAT Siffrin would react to Ageswap! Au Bonnie (or vice versa) I imagine the two would feel very confused? It’s very jarring to see someone who in your reality/ timeline is a kid be an adult anywhere else. I think they’d get along well though! I think both would be happy that the other has a home/family amongst the party and turned out well overall despite the general traumatic childhood/ timeloop trauma etc.

That being said I think there’d be a level of guilt both of them would feel especially on the side of like canon ISAT! Loop + ISAT ! Siffrin reacting to ageswap Bonnie being in the loops to begin with.

The reason why is simply because the only ones who knew how to properly and correctly make the wish at the favor tree canonically is The King, Siffrin and Loop respectively. That means in other aus where someone else is looping and not Siffrin…that means someone had to have taught whoever was looping the correct way of wishing and the only one in the group who possibly could would be Siffrin.

I don’t think any looper would personally blame Siffrin or loop at all mind you- but I know how Siffrin and Loop have a very bad habit of placing guilt on themselves for things they couldn’t possibly control or change etc. The idea that even when you’re not the one wishing, you still somehow “doomed” your family by showing them how to wish correctly in the first place would nag at them. What a cosmic joke!!!!!

Not to mention because of the wording of the wish is a lot different than canon ISAT Siffrin and Loops wish. In the canon game of ISAT both Siffrin and Loop wished to stay with their family but in the ageswap au Bonnie specifically wished for the group to be safe (since they knew that the king was dangerous and anything could go wrong).

In simplest terms- it means the timeloop win condition in ageswap still relied on loop and Siffrin ( or any other kid in the group for that matter) to feel safe/be safe. Which is a problem because Loop and Siffrin respectively *would not* feel safe with the group splitting and going separate ways because then they would be all alone and fending for themselves again. Since the wish isn’t fulfilled until everyone feels safe, Bonnie would’ve had to been in the loops even after the group defeats the king and saves Vaugarde.

In the case of the eye incident I think both Siffrin and loop and ageswap Bonnie ( or guide if we go by the one au where ageswap Bonnie was the guide and Siffrin was the one looping) I don’t think anyone would be upset at their younger counterparts, nor at the person doing the protecting ( because they know for a fact that if the situation was reversed they can and will get hurt if it meant protecting someone- especially if that person was a little kid.)

Okay so when i was coming up with mistynat teams i did also start coming up with teams for the other yjs (so not all of them are full teams yet and like especially shauna’s i’m not really sure of)

I’m honestly really proud of lottie’s i feel like it truly fits her character, especially Hatterene, that’s been one of my favourite pokemon since gen 8 came out cause of her insane pokedex enteries. Like that is simply THE lottie pokemon to me, also i like to think that she evolved while they were out in the wilderness, since that’s where lottie really came into her own

Growlithe was van’s first pokemon and she had him with her her entire life, probably evolved somewhere in between the timelines

Laura Lee having an ampheros is so important to me, like that pokemon is known for being a beacon to guide people who are lost, and laura lee was the beacon of hope and faith with her plan to save them with the plane

Oh and i did give van a gigalith that’s mainly cause i like gigalith but also with her storytelling van is kinda what holds the group together at times, like she’s something solid and unchanging that the others can rely on like the rock beneath their feet like it fits to me

Most of lottie’s pokemon are quite lonely beautiful but off putting guys like they fit her so well, i think she found the volcarona in the caves out in the wilderness
