Now I'm realizing I could've benefitted from from a mobility aid much earlier in my life. In the second grade it took me 6 months to be able to run in place for 1 minute like all the other kids. My ankles were constantly hurting from standing too long and from the pressure of running. I would lose my balance and just fall when my ankles decided to not support me randomly as well. I was so proud of myself after those 6 months. But afterwards I needed to sit down and rest and massage my ankles because 1 minute was all I could handle and rejoined gym free play when I wasn't hurting.
My mom, grandmother, and I all have really small ankles and feet. We're all around 5ft-5ft 1in. Our ankles just STOP working sometimes. It wasn't until my mom had more difficulties and was nearly 40 when it started getting even harder for her and she had to go to physical therapy for her wrist when she brought up her ankles too. Doing stretches everyday once a day would strengthen the muscles and make it eaiser for her to balance and cause less pain. At this point I was in less pain because I was still running and my ankles supported me better but every now and then they'd just stop. I learned that these stretches were the same ones I would do, before and after a run, and even then it didn't guarantee I wouldn't randomly fall.
Other than it being genetic I have no idea what it is. My brothers don't have the same issues. But life would've been so much easier if like I knew I could use something to keep me from just falling. At this point I instinctively know the correct way to fall so that I don't get too hurt. Even with the stretches, I still experience issues with my balance and pain. I wish I was given an option. More often than not, I'd sit on the ground.

Can someone help me out because for a long time I’ve had like. Moderate?
Balance issues, when walking straight sometimes I’d lean to the side and cross my foot over to keep balance, when walking around corners I very often “leave” my torso while moving my feet around the corner, hitting the wall. But whenever I don’t i end up falling to one side? Sometimes I tilt when standing or crouching or bending down, and then tilt the other way to straighten out, but when I do I realize I’m falling backwards and cannot adjust because I’m adjusting sideways already does this make sense? If I stretch my back or something I usually end up taking a few steps back to keep myself from falling (not due to leaning when I stretch but from disorientation when I’m back upright?)
I have a pair of wide bottom docs that are heavy and hard to lean in (I also stand on the outsides on my feet a lot, or walk with them a bit curved in which I sometimes trip because of?) and those help with balance because if I’m tilting I can lift a foot up and the weight redistributes a bit? Any shoe that’s very flat helps a bit too but not by much. I am on a medication right now that “may cause dizziness” which I did have a very bad experience with on a dif med but it has been like this since before then ofc...
Im struggling lol, and while I *will* ask my doctor next time I see them, I wanted to hear the thoughts of the people haha

My brother pointed out how I walk weirdly, aka moving my upper body a lot to keep balance. And then he held my shoulders stable and it was so weird walking completely up right with no swinging??? And then immediately when he let go I started swinging again??
I think my balance is actually getting worse holy shit

I'm very tired of my grandmother calling me dramatic. I denied going into Walmart because I was not only feeling overwhelmed after the dentist but because I'm overheating and more dizzy than normal. I have even worse balance when this happens, and I'm even more of a fall risk.
Normally when I go with mom I can catch myself on her, but my grandmother is about 90lbs soaking wet and barely reaches my chest. If I tried to catch myself on her we'd both go down. I don't have my cane because I wasn't aware that we were going to the store, and I haven't exactly told her I use it.
She didn't outright call me dramatic, but she gave me the same look she does anytime I mention any health issue that I'm "too young" to have issues with. I love her to death, but she still lives in the days when you force yourself through everything because there wasn't another option. If you're not puking or have a fever you go to work or school.

Living with Hearing Loss: Diagnosis
My hearing began deteriorating in my mid-twenties but I was not the first person to notice the problem. It was the people around me who realised that I didn’t respond to them if I couldn’t see they were speaking to me and that I sometimes misunderstood what was being said because I’d not heard the right words. Initially I put it down to the spasmodic tinnitus that had appeared in my early…

I'm concerned. I simply wanted to know if the colors had meanings. I was told my yellow ones signified I'm at risk of falling.

Physiotherapy offers effective solutions for dizziness and vertigo. Vertigo, characterized by the sensation of movement or spinning, can be addressed through physiotherapy interventions.
A thorough assessment by a physiotherapist can confirm the presence of vertigo, and specific exercises can be prescribed to alleviate symptoms. Even if vertigo is ruled out, physiotherapy can still help with dizziness symptoms through vestibular training exercises.

Comments for a Cause - Finding Balance
June 1, 2023. Here we go again. The months are flying by and soon the year will be half over. This is a busy month with the annual AAUW Used Book Sale among other things but I definitely wanted to start it out right with a great Comments for a Cause. If you remember I wanted to honor my mom and her love of books and also her love of volunteering for years at the Copeland Oaks Library. She…

fucking bonkers to me that people watch movies in theaters. you can't control the volume. you can't rewind when you miss something. you can't choose your own subtitles. you can't even pause to use the bathroom??? there's only like 7 movies to choose from????? and you must pay money for this privilege? grotesque. repugnance. act of torture.

Seniors are more likely to fall due to weaker bones and joints that come with aging. The risk of falls can be increased for those who live alone in their homes and have not yet signed up for assisted living facility in Visalia, California, and should not be ignored.
