men have a physical advantage over women in sports because most sports - like everything else - are made by men for men. competitions also follow the male circadian rhythm (24h cycle).
our biology is different. we are built for survival, endurance, resistance. we are made to last through time. you can see this in so many aspects of female biology.
imagine how cool it would be to have our own sports that highlight our physical power properly. or like competitions last an entire month so we can compete at the appropriate phase of the cycle and we’re all judged fairly. imagine if we had different sports created on the different phases to embrace how we change in a month. i’ve got so many ideas going through my head of how it could be.
i’d like physical activity way more like this. i wanna live in a world like that.

chronic illness culture is feeling deeply angry with yourself for taking your body and your health and your life for granted until you learned how fast it would all deteriorate

Every gym should have a room where you can go to like dig holes with a mattock pick and a shovel because sometimes I just really need to go break some ground and smash some rocks with a pick and move dirt around and I can do that at home cause we have a backyard and there's always some bullshit project to do but I can't do that up at school and I can't go work out because my knee fucking hurts and I just did arms yesterday like 16 hours ago so just fuck me I guess

a very long post about physical activity, why? because this is my blog and I can 🤠
(this is about able bodied folks, if your disability/chronic illness/other physical constraints mean you can't identify with the below - I see you and I'm not ignoring your existence, I just don't have the perspective to speak about your lives with the respect they deserve)
nothing has been as detrimental to the marketing of physical activity as fitfluencers and diet culture
I mean it, it took me 20+ years to unlearn the toxic mindset that started with me reading teen magazines some 15 years ago. that physical activity is something you have to suffer through in pursuit of a hot body. that "no pain, no gain". that you have to do certain exercises only to fit in the canon. that physical activity is something that should not be enjoyed, it's a sad necessity if you want your body to be conventionally attractive
the narrative around fitness is so toxic. one day heroin chic is in, next day it's bbl, next day it's being a pilates princess, next day it's being a muscle mummy. always something to strive for, the pursuit of unattainable standard pushed by media
it took me 20+ years to unlearn that physical activity is the nature of our bodies, it's evolution, it's something to be enjoyed and cherished
think about it
for a minute, ignore everything you've been taught about fitness, all the negative connotations and think about it this way
our bodies were meant to be active. our muscles were meant to be used. this is the most sedentary a human has been in the entire history of the human race. for centuries we used our bodies for survival, for fun, for health
forget about treating fitness as means to an end
think about how you feel, not what your body looks like
if you're a gym goer, isn't it exciting when your body finally masters the form?
if you're a runner, isn't it exhilarating to feel your feet bounce off the pavement?
if you like yoga/pilates, isn't it satisfying to feel your muscles awaken and take you into poses you didn't think possible?
if you are a cyclist, isn't it beautiful to feel the wind in your hair and see the world moving in front of your eyes?
and physical activity does not have to be what we conventionally think it is
think about our childhoods, before we were taught to criticise what we see in the mirror and starve our bodies
think about skipping rope on the playground, monkey bars, wild rollerblading tricks, bicycle races
we can have that again if we let that childlike wonder prevail
take a walk and look at the trees. feel the gravel under your feet, breathe in, let your legs take you where they want
play football with your kids, listen to them laughing, show them how to score a goal
swim with your friends, feel the water lapping at your skin, let your lungs burn when you're racing them
bake a cake, feel your arms working when you're kneeding the dough
help your friend move, carry their stuff up a couple flights of stairs, help them drill holes and hang the curtains
our bodies were made to move! stop treating movement like a punishment! start feeling wonder at what your body can do! your body can run, jump, crawl, squat, lift, push and pull! all of your muscles, tendons, centuries of evolution!
your body is a piece of art, it's wonder and beauty
movement can be beautiful and freeing if you let yourself feel it
you don't have to lift heavy or run marathons
your don't have to chase fads and go to classes that make you want to die
you just have to move
not because you have to
but because you can
#fitness#physical activity#i love life and all the beauty it holds#if you only filter through some of our society's bullshit#and let yourself feel wonder

Barn – things come to it!

And, by the way, all summer things are going closer to barn. It is such a big house. There are lots of stuff inside, it is heap, lots of things are piled up there. Some boards, some old boards, for example. With a very big amount. So, as a fact, you even cannot to go there.

Everything is piled up with a boards, some wooden things. Somewhere, there are several woods. Some iron little things, different, in rust. Some old nails. So, it is so wonderful and magical place! It is a barn! It is good to sort all the things! It, looks like endless! How in such little house can be placed so many things? It is just amazing!

It is a good weather outside. And it is good to have some warm up a little. So, I help a little brother to sort things in a barn. I pull cart with different things forward and backward. It is, also, a funny thing to do. It is good, that it is so excellent weather. And, so many green things all around you! During breaktime, I run to little house – to drink a tea, and play videogames! And, I, also, do my countryside things! I can say I have excellent summer days!

But barn, it is, really, something! Whole universe out of bags, broken bricks, also, I can find there sometimes. Some rusty details. I cannot say what they are using for.
I find also old bicycle. And mine one, and my little brother`s too. And a wheels from bicycles. Old. And, also, a deflated football ball, also, is here. I guess, it is easy to find here any thing – especially, if search well!

As a truth, there are, lots of dust there! And, sand at the floor. And, also, sometimes, you can find a little spiders here. And, some fly can fly here near the window glass. So, it is a full scale life cycle here in a barn. There is life in a barn, u know.

I find some old telephone device here. When you need to rotate a circle to call a number. But, it was a absolutely broken. It has a broken case. And a handset part is connected to main case with a rope. Amazing thing! Old table is here! In a disassembled form. Lots of old stuff, made out of wood.

Yes, there is, of course, here a place for interesting things! It is such a wonderland beyond the mirror! In a barn -there is, it is own wonderland. And you can get into this place without a mirror. You need just to open a little door. By the way, it is rather cold in a barn. It is wind with a cold there. In a hot day, it is a cool place to be there in a shade. Also, it has a wind there. Interesting, where it goes from?
It is dark in a barn! And, if you get out – it is so light and a whole green world! Yes! There is something to do in a barn! Barn - it is a big thing! To sort the things!

Queen Elizabeth II gave Philly the Bicentennial Bell in 1976. Her son Prince Edward just rededicated it.
by Sean Collins Walsh
30 April 2025
In 1976, Queen Elizabeth II recognized the Bicentennial by gifting the United States a bell forged at the same foundry as the Liberty Bell.
She famously declared in a speech in Philadelphia that Britain “lost the American colonies because we lacked that statesmanship to know the right time, and the manner of yielding, what is impossible to keep.”
On Wednesday, the late queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, helped kick off festivities leading up to next year’s Semiquincentennial by rededicating the Bicentennial Bell in its new home, the Benjamin Rush Garden in Old City.
“Yes, it is true we did have a couple of wars against each other,” said Edward, the brother of King Charles III.
“But to use a sporting analogy, when you consider the number of for and against, actually the for is more. We’ve been on the same side more times than we’ve been on the opposite sides.”
The rededication ceremony was the kickoff of a two-day Philadelphia tour for Edward, who has visited the city twice before.
During the trip, which was organized by the Independence Historical Trust, he was also scheduled to appear at events related to his Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award USA, which promotes youth community service and physical activity.
