no but literally people can call for boycotts on harry potter easily, but as soon as we need to boycott a series they actually like they suddenly cannot see/hear the situation.
I mean, people have infamously broken the JKR boycott as well but yeah, a lot of people have very "loose" attitudes when it comes to things like protests and boycotts, especially if it affects literally anything they enjoy.
Like, so many people ignore the BDS boycotts (in favor of strangely shitty products) and I remember when there were calls to boycott Abbott Elementary-or that show from awhile back, Reservation Dogs and people got really vicious over it-Not just people who didn't believe what was going on was wrong but large amounts of people who just really liked the shows and didn't want to give them up.
So many people will discuss boycotting things, specifically things they weren't/aren't that interested in (like the JKR shit) but don't actually participate in boycotts because they don't want those same principles possibly applied to anything they might enjoy.
I.e. they don't actually want to boycott anything, they just want to feel like a good person while not doing shit.
It's always really disappointing to see for me, especially since boycotting is generally a very simple type of boycott that can really help other people.

>Looking for a new boycott movement
>Ask the activists if theirs is a targeted boycott or an attempt at ethical consumption under capitalism.
>They don't understand.
>Pull out illustrated diagram explaining what is a targeted boycott and what is an attempt at ethical consumption under capitalism.
>She laughs and says, "It's a good movement comrade".
>Looks at the movement.

Hi Auntie Bitches! I have a question regarding an impasse of ethics and finances, so of course I figured you’d be the experts!
I live in the USA, and absolutely hate the direction things are headed in. I’m inspired by hearing that Canada and a ton of countries in Europe are boycotting absolutely everything American made. This is genius because the only way to hurt the greedy pricks at the top is to hurt their bottom lines.
I really want to join in and buy as few goods that are made in the states as possible. However, I also live here and my household budget is already pretty tight. With this ridiculous trade war going on, imported goods will become even more costly.
I’m stuck between a possibly unlivable budget if fully switching to goods that aren’t made here; or being a tad more financially sound but forced to feed the fascism machine by using American goods.
Please, I’d love some advice on how to navigate this?
Your first priority should be your own survival and well-being. You can't help anyone else nor effect positive systemic change if you are starving and evicted. So use that as your baseline for decisions in this case.
Second, you should strongly consider patronizing smaller local businesses and artisans for your needs. Many of these locals are just as angry about the federal government's economic policies as you are and putting them out of business will be a NET LOSS for all of us. So help keep them alive.
Worried a local business might be MAGA? Good news! The trash is taking itself out! PublicSquare is a website where businesses "who respect traditional American values" (DOG WHISTLE ALERT) can get listed. It's a great way to know which of your local businesses to avoid!
Also, keep in mind that shopping secondhand is one of the most ethical ways to consume in any economy.
Lastly, the most important thing you need to do is to only buy what you NEED right now. This means food, medications, and very little else. Not only is this the most wallet-friendly way to shop, but it's also very much in the spirit of boycotting.
Um brb I think we need to make this into a larger article...

Just a reminder that if you hate what Elon musk is doing right now (and in the past bc he’s always been horrible) then you should not be flying with United Airlines anymore. They will be starting flights with starlink in 2025 with no plans to back off from starlink and have not defended their diversity, equity, and inclusion policies despite being the first major airline to implement one. They are not “the friendly skies” and should not be treated as such. I know Target is the big boycott target right now but United airlines is the largest airline company in the states so let’s put pressure on them too.

How? How is it illegal not to buy something you don't want? Show me the law require the purchase of a vehicle from a specific company? How will they enforce it? Most people can't afford a car.
How will they impose this imaginary requirement to buy Teslas on Germany? France? How?

Today my local McDonald's were advertising FOUR burgers and fries for the price of only 5.30 $ dollars

with all these subreddits being forced back open, i think that it behooves all of us to not give reddit any traffic while the protest continues.
if subreddits can't be kept private because the CEO wants more traffic, then we shouldn't give the site traffic at all to begin with.
i love the malicious compliance, but also, if the CEO is aiming for traffic, then staying off the site would help to facilitate the malicious part of that compliance.
i have no point here, just thought it was worth mentioning.

These 10 Democratic Senators sold out their party, their colleagues, Federal workers, their country, and their constituents, by voting to advance the Continuing Resolution that gives FOTUS and Musk greater control over our government and budget.
And to be clear: this is not a "both sides are the same" or "Do nothing Dems" or "protest vote" post- even though those are all narratives that these peoples' despicable cowardice and treachery will fuel. The VAST majority of Congressional Democrats did do the right thing and voted against this- all but one in the House, and more than three quarters of those in the Senate.
But Republicans only needed a handful to bypass a filibuster and make this obscene resolution law.
The worst are the New York Democrats, Schumer and Gillibrand. Unlike the others, they aren't in a swing state. They are long-time incumbents. Their seats are not realistically threatened, except by a primary from the Left which this makes more likely. There is no reason at all for them to do this, other than corruption or cowardice.
And Schumer is Senate Minority Leader- arguably the leading figure in the party now, along with Hakeem Jefferies in the House. He not only surrendered to the regime here, but went against the bulk of his own caucus to do it. He is blatantly unfit to be minority leader, and he should be challenged for the position immediately if he will not resign.
All ten of these turncoats should face primary challenges at their next election (if there ever is one again), but especially Schumer, Gillibrand, and Fetterman (who has been cozying up to MAGA repeatedly since the election).
On one positive personal note, I am pleased to see that both of my Senators, Bennett and Hickenlooper of Colorado, voted against this, as I called and urged them yesterday to do.
Well, if the House Democrats don't have the votes, and the Senate Democrats are too divided to do so, then it is up to the people to shut down this fascist regime, via mass boycotts and a general strike.

Jennifer Bendery at HuffPost:
WASHINGTON – A few years ago, Jeff was working for a California bank that asked him to look into getting the business listed on a website called PublicSquare. The bank’s leaders were big supporters of Donald Trump, and PublicSquare was an ideal place to advertise it: Its website, which bills itself as “the anti-woke online marketplace,” is a hub of tens of thousands of businesses nationwide that want people to know they align with MAGA views and oppose so-called “progressive priorities” like women’s reproductive rights and diversity initiatives. In order to list your business on the website, you first have to confirm that you will “respect the core values of PublicSquare” and agree not to “support causes that are in direct conflict with our core values.” “For far too long, American consumers and business owners who cherish family values and God-given liberty have been overlooked by mainstream businesses,” the company’s website states. “It’s time to embrace this community of customers and merchants by providing platforms, products, and services that enrich the way of life they hold dear.” The company also acknowledges its purpose of letting people use their dollars as political and cultural leverage. “PublicSquare is on a mission to restore the culture through the power of commerce,” its website says under a section called “Purpose with every purchase.” “This isn’t about boycotts, it’s about helping you switch to something better.” As a consumer, PublicSquare’s website is easy to use. You just enter your ZIP code and it pulls up businesses near you that want to be publicly associated with Trump and his values. The company, which launched in 2022, has direct connections to Trump, too: Its board of directors includes Donald Trump Jr., who also is an investor. Kelly Loeffler, President Trump’s administrator of the Small Business Administration, also was on the board until she was confirmed to her current post in February. Jeff, who requested using a pseudonym for this story out of concerns of being targeted by Trump supporters in his community, doesn’t know if that bank joined PublicSquare. He soon left that job and went on to launch a communications firm. Fast-forward to February 2025, when Trump is back in the White House and destroying virtually everything he touches. He’s tanking the global economy. He’s hollowing out the federal government. It is not hyperbole to say he’s pushing American democracy to its breaking point. Jeff, a regular user of the social media platform Reddit, started noticing people in his San Diego community posting messages desperate for ways to fight back against Trump’s recklessness. Some called for boycotting MAGA-friendly businesses but didn’t know how to identify companies that support Trump’s views. So Jeff, who had extensively researched PublicSquare at his previous bank job, tossed in a note about it. “MAGA has made it easy for all of us to avoid their businesses,” he wrote under his Reddit name, Hour-Abbreviations18. “A couple years ago, they introduced a website – publicsq.com — to promote MAGA businesses. We can use that same tool to make informed purchasing decisions.” “If a business is listed on the site, it’s not a fluke,” he wrote. “It’s on purpose.” He got several responses to his post, so out of curiosity, Jeff searched Reddit for instances of people outside of his local community who were looking for ways to avoid pro-Trump businesses. He cut and pasted his spiel about PublicSquare into those threads, too.
PublicSquare, a listing of places that support MAGA values, is instead being used as a tool for boycotts among those opposed to the MAGA agenda.

Marching, protests, and boycotts aren’t accessible to everyone - if you can’t participate, please don’t let yourself think you aren’t contributing.
Some of the best and easiest acts of resistance:
1. Stay alive. Your existence makes their job all the more difficult. Keep breathing. Keep going.
2. Keep yourself educated and informed. We cannot fight what we don’t know. Keep track of what’s going on (remember to take breaks) and fact check your sources. Dig deeper for information that’s been censored. Also, now’s the time to read. If you can get your hands on banned books, read them. Take notes. Share with friends. They can strip us of our rights, but they cannot take away our education.
3. Make art and share it. They want conformity, they want copy and paste people they can control. Express yourself in any way you can - paint, write, sing, wear whatever you want. Art is the weapon. Remind them that we are individuals with our own thoughts and free will, and we can do whatever we goddamn please.
Doing any of these three things is still an act of resistance. You’re still a part of this picture, you’re still on the right side of history. If you’re able to do more, do it. Do it for the ones who can’t.
Take care of yourself. Check in on friends and family, create community, take a breather from the news as needed. We’re gonna figure this out.
There is still hope because we are still here.
