I'm grateful every day that I never wound up with whatever cursed, abominable combination of personality traits makes you become a leftist.
I think the most ghoulish thing I’ve seen with the flooding going on in Texas right now is the people who think it’s “funny” or “ironic” that a Christian summer camp was swept away in a flood. Or saying they deserved it for voting wrong.
Children are fucking dead. I don’t give a shit what anybody thinks about religion or whether victims “deserve” compassion. People caught in natural disasters deserve aid and not to be fucking mocked for their theoretical bad opinions. I don’t care if the dead 8 year old’s parents voted for Trump.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t ridicule Abbott for declaring a day of prayer; that’s stupid and useless.
This disaster was likely caused by multiple factors; topography, climate change, insufficient preparation, systemic negligence, federal budget cuts. These things do need to be investigated and addressed to prevent further tragedies, but mocking the dying children for their religion just makes them shitty people.

Hey
Hey Americans.
The federal government is about to get useless for at least a bit. This is a GREAT time to get involved in state level environmental orgs. That's where you're gonna be able to do the most for the next few years. Even a bit of casual volunteering can make a big difference.
I've done this off and on for years and when we go local we WIN. And friends winning feels good. This is how a lot of progressive agendas have won in this country. The whole US isn't out of this. People ARE still fighting climate change all around you.
You could be one of those people, in community with other people who are doing something.
doom and gloom "oooh everything is pointless oooh I'm so deep and edgy because I love trying to be the death of hope" people will just get blocked. I'm not talking to your crab-bucket ass.

White sharks are washing up dead in South Australia.
Read that again.
White sharks are washing up dead in South Australia.
This is because the temperature of the ocean has risen, causing an algae bloom to over take the water, smothering their gills and suffocating them.
The temperature has risen.
This algae bloom has caused an ecological catastrophe. It’s a dead zone for all gilled life forms. When it dies it will smoother the aquatic life.
White sharks are washing up dead.

There was record-breaking clean energy progress all around the world in 2024
"Last week, we shared the news that the U.S. government permanently closed most federal waters — more than 625 million acres — to offshore oil and gas drilling.
It’s a great way to kick off a year of more good climate action. And as the year-end data rolls in, there are even more stories of progress in fighting climate change via transitioning away from fossil fuels toward clean energy sources across the globe. In 2024...
📍 In Great Britain, wind power alone provided more electricity than ever before, and all renewables together generated around 56% of electricity.
📍 In Germany, renewables made up a record 59% of electricity generation and became the “backbone of the system” in the country.
📍 In Poland, a record 29% of its power came from renewable sources, showing great progress in a country that still heavily relies on coal.
📍 In India, the “transformative growth” of its renewable energy sector led to it surpassing 200 GW of installed capacity, making up 46% of the country’s total installed capacity.

Whats frustrating to me is that gen z is enjoying the fruits of incredibly hard-won progressivism in this country while simultaneously being fed conservative ideals which tell them to look around, you don't have to grow up, you don't have to confront yourself and think critically about the world. And they have spent their formative adult years having their cake and eating it too. I just hope they understand how much that conservatism will betray them. I hope that all those young ladies who want to be tradwives and all those young men who believe in a nonsensical alpha hierarchy are eventually able grow up a little bit.
