Okay Canadians, it's our turn to vote and we've got to try not to mess it up like certain other countries.
Election day is THIS MONDAY (APRIL 28TH).
If you are a Canadian citizen and at least 18, you can vote.
If you didn't advance vote / mail vote, then you must go on Monday. Check out [elections dot ca], all you need is your postal code and it will tell you where your voting station is and the hours. Lines were long in some places on day 1 of advance voting, but that's extremely rare. You should be in and out in 15 minutes tops normally.
You do not need to check registration or anything. You are probably registered if you have filed taxes and checked the box for election registration, but even if you have moved since then, it is fine. If you are not on their physical list already on Monday, they will add you in like 1 minute with your ID. It's easy. Trust me, for some reason I am perpetually not registered despite always checking the tax form box, so I go through it every election. It takes 60 seconds and they don't judge you.
You need to bring: your government photo ID OR 2 pieces of pseudo ID like a utility bill and your student ID where at least one has your address. If you have none of the above, but you have a friend who lives in the same polling station area, you can literally bring them and they are allowed to vouch for you and you just sign a declaration page that you are not doing voter fraud.
Have to work? You are legally required to have 3 consecutive hours to vote. If your shift somehow doesn't have 3 consecutive hours off during the time your polling station is open, your job must give you the extra time off with pay to make it 3 consecutive hours. It's on the elections canada page under the FAQ if you don't believe me.
Also I'm not saying your hockey team will lose in the playoffs if you don't vote, but I'm not not saying that either.
Summary:
-Check where to vote with postal code at elections dot ca
-Bring ID
-Global slide into facism? Bad. Voting? Good!
IT'S THIS MONDAY!!! DON'T FORGET!

Federal Election in Canada
A gentle reminder for my Canadian mutuals:
Monday, 21 April 2025 - Last day to vote in the Advanced Poll. TODAY! Hours: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM (Local time)
Monday, 28 April 2025 - Election Day! Hours: 9:30 AM - 9:30 PM EDT. Check your local poll hours here.
If you don't know your polling station then enter your postal code in the Voter Information Service form.
I think voting in this election is so critical that I am a poll supervisor at my local polling station on Election Day. I will be part of the voting process - opening the poll, helping voters, closing the poll, and counting the ballots! If you have a question about the voting process then please let me know. I've got you!
PLEASE VOTE!!

Last night, Canada’s Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, secured a victory in the 2025 federal election. Though the party fell short of an outright majority, it will retain control of the government. The campaign’s final stretch was marred by a surge in anti-trans rhetoric from the Conservative Party, with leader Pierre Poilievre releasing platform guidance that suggested possible bathroom bans and restrictions on transgender prisoners. In contrast, Carney—whose public support for LGBTQ+ rights has included his nonbinary child—offered a starkly different vision. For queer Canadians and those seeking refuge in a country that affirms their rights, the outcome was an unambiguous win. The outcome was uncertain as the election drew near—but for transgender Canadians, a Conservative victory would have spelled disaster. Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative leader, has repeatedly championed anti-transgender policies. “Female spaces should be exclusively for females, not for biological males,” he said in 2024, signaling opposition to trans people using restrooms that align with their gender identity. He also pledged to introduce legislation banning transgender women from women’s sports. In the final week of his campaign, his platform escalated further, promising restrictions on transgender prisoners and vowing to “ensure that women’s spaces and services remain protected in federal institutions and policy.” Canada, for a moment, stood on the brink of replicating the past three months of anti-trans rollbacks seen under Trump’s second presidency in the United States.
It is not comforting that the election was close, and there is still much work to do, but this both keeps Canada relatively safe for trans people and also strengthens our position for the purposes of campaigning against the STCA.
If you can, contact your MPs and urge them to make exceptions to or withdraw from the Safe Third Country Agreement with the United States. As I said before, we have a strong case to declare the US unsafe for trans people, and for refugees more generally. Inform yourself and make arguments based on the recent anti-trans executive orders and their impact.
I am already doing this myself and trying to get in contact with organizations or local trans people who may be willing to support the cause. The more people bring up the topic to them and the more people we reach the more likely it is that we will be able to get something done.
If you are contacting them by email, you will want to include your full name, home address, and postal code. Ideally you should try to call them by phone or even meet them in person (especially if you can convince a couple of people to come with you).

Hello fellow Canadians!
This weekend (Friday April 17- Monday April 21) is early voting for the federal election! The polls are typically open in 12 hour chunks each day (mine are from 9am-9pm but may vary by location).
Visit the elections canada website and enter your postal code for all the information on where to vote, how to vote and a list of candidates for your riding.
All this (minus the list of candidates) can also be found on your voter card that came in the mail this week. If you have not received your card you can still vote. Bring some ID from this list (there is also an option if you have no ID).
Remember, we are not american so we do not vote directly for the prime minister. Instead we elect a member of parliament to represent our riding. Figure out who your candidates are ahead of time and make sure they are someone that you want to represent you in Ottawa. They will be your point of contact for federal concerns regardless of party. Choose what you feel is the best option.
Early voting is easy, quick (usually less lines than on election day proper) and extremely important.

Keep the US Postal Service Independent
Trump is planning to take control of the United States Postal Service after firing the entire Postal Board and placing the agency under the control of the Commerce Department. The Postal Board of Governors cannot be legally dismissed without cause, and Trump’s attempt to override the system is an illegal takeover that threatens mail-in voting, veterans’ jobs, and the public’s ability to receive affordable mail service. This comes just days after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced his resignation following five controversial years at the agency. The USPS is mandated to provide affordable service to every zip code, but privatization could result in significant price hikes, post office closures, and slower mail—especially in rural areas.
Beyond delivering mail, USPS is also one of the largest employers in the country, with over 635,000 workers—including nearly 100,000 military members and veterans in its workforce. Privatization would put these jobs at risk.
Congress must act now to prevent this blatant power grab and ensure the USPS remains independent, affordable, and accessible to all Americans.

Say "NO" to Genocide - Call, email, mail your reps (Canada)
Me and my friend spent some time today writing letters to the House of Commons, plus we have been calling MPs daily. I haven't seen too many resources for this floating around on tumblr, so here's a lengthy guide on how to do this plus some sample scripts! Long post ahead since I think it will be most helpful to dump everything in one spot to reference. On desktop, use CTR F/CMD F to search for the topic -> Phone / Email / Letter Mail / Contacts / Demands / Scripts / Fax
Update 1 - Nov 23: Updated emails with "mailto" hyperlinks, edited demands, added fax section, added scotiabank pres fax number.
On the PHONE / General Tips
Introduce yourself and identify yourself as a constituent by providing your postal code or address.
Ask to speak to the MP directly, but do not be surprised if you must speak to the MP’s staff instead. Staff can help move your issue forward.
Give the reason for your call and explain your concern.
Focus on one or two main concerns per phone call. Do not unload on the MP or their staff with all of your political concerns at one time.
Ask clear and pointed questions that require some explanation.
Ask for a commitment to action.
KEEP IN MIND Tips for Calling MPs:
Tell the MP that this issue will matter to you in the next election.
Avoid revealing party affiliation or sympathies. If you show that your vote is already cast for a certain party, the MP may not have the incentive to respond to your requests.
Be as brief as possible while outlining concerns.  Show that you respect their time.
Remain calm and respectful in dialogue. Be willing to work with them.
Follow up: Find out what actions were taken as a result of your call, and respond appropriately.
(Source: CPJ.ca)
CJPME Call Tool - Fill in the form, there will be suggested talking point. The tool will call your phone and then patch you through to your MP. If voicemail, state your concerns in 30 seconds. No address input will default you to call Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly.
EMAIL
Be sure you sign your email with your name and mailing address so they know you are a part of their riding.
You will most likely receive a PR-type response or no response at all, but please still send these. It disrupts operations, and it still contributes to pressuring your MP to act on behalf of your riding.
LETTER MAIL
Mail may be sent postage-free to any member of Parliament at the House of Commons address. You just need to use an MP's full title if they are Cabinet members. Cabinet mebers have "The Honourable" attached to their names.
Postcards are efficient in that they are small pieces of card stock and can be a short message plus demands, no need to get use envelopes.
The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau House of Commons Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K1A 0A6
CONTACTS
Find your MP - ourcommons.ca - Contact the MP of your riding, any of the contacts below, as well as any cabinet members in your city or province.

DEMANDS
Summarized from resistance groups such as H/mas, H/zbollah, PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine), DFLP (Marxist Democratic Front got the Liberation of Palestine), CJPME (Canadians for justice and peace in the middle east), and other anti-war, anti-imperialist, IRL Palestinians.
Canada needs to...
Call an immediate PERMANENT ceasefire to end bloodshed
Send humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Institute embargo on all military exports to Israel
Close the embassies, and sanction Israel diplomatically and economically.
SCRIPTS
Use these as scripts for calling, emailing, and mailing. I suggest adding some of your own sentences and changing the subject lines (for email) so they don't end up in spam.
Example from Canada: Stop Arming Israel - World BEYOND War
As we mourn the thousands of people in Israel and Palestine who have been killed in the past few weeks we refuse to stand by and allow the only true winners in war — the weapons manufacturers — to continue to arm and profit off of it.
Canada exported over $21 million in military goods to Israel in 2022, including over $3 million in bombs, torpedoes, missiles, and other explosives. - 2022 Exports of Military Goods
Weapons companies across Canada are making a fortune off of the carnage in Gaza and the occupation of Palestine.
This is a call to action. It's time to stop letting these weapons companies profit off of the massacre of thousands of Palestinians. Find a location near you, get friends and allies together, and interrupt their business as usual to demand they stop selling arms and military technology to Israel.
Send an urgent message to demand Canada stop arming Israel and push for an immediate ceasefire to your Member of Parliament, the Prime Minister, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Defense.
Dear [recipient's full name goes here], We are witnessing genocidal violence playing out in Gaza right now. Thousands of Palestinians have been killed, nearly half of them children. With a blockade on water, electricity, fuel and food, a quarter of all buildings razed to the ground, and over a million people displaced, UN experts have denounced Israel's actions as crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, weapons companies across Canada are arming -- and making a fortune off of -- the carnage in Gaza and the massacre of thousands of Palestinians by selling weapons and military technology to Israel. I am calling on you to do two things: to take immediate action to institute an arms embargo on Israel and to ensure Canada pushes for de-escalation and a ceasefire in Gaza. Sincerely,
Script Sample 2 from Palestinian Youth Movement
^This will open up a pre-written email in your chosen email app or site. Fill in the recipient line with the emails of MPs you wish to contact.
Script Sample 3 from CJPME's Email Campaign
^Complete the form to send an email to Prime Minister Trudeau, your local MP, and the leaders of the NDP, Convervatives and Greens. Canada must OPPOSE A SECOND NAKBA and dispossession of the Palestinians in Gaza by pushing for a ceasefire.
Script Sample 3 for mail:
(a mix of mine and a friend's)
I am writing to ask you to take immediate action to stop the genocide Israel is committing against Palestinians in Gaza as well as the onslaught of those in West Bank.
There is blockade on food, water, electricity, fuel, and the use of internationally banned white phosphorus to exterminate Palestinians. Aid is not able to enter Gaza because of this blockade. UN experts have named Israel’s actions as genocide citing numerous war crimes they continually commit.
While over 10k civilians have been martyr’d (4.2k of which are children), Canada has not even been able to NAME such crimes as genocide or call for an official ceasefire. This is not enough.
Canada needs to:
Call an immediate ceasefire to end bloodshed
Send humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Institute embargo on all military exports to Israel
Close the embassies, and sanction Israel diplomatically and economically.
FAX (NEW!)
Using faxzero.com is simple, just follow up the steps on the website. No fax machine required! Tell officials your demands and customize your letter by noting their complicity based on their role as a politician or gov official. Or keep it brief and simple, in large legible letters.
Demands could include:
That you are a “Canadian” constituent That you are demanding an IMMEDIATE AND PERMANENT CEASEFIRE IN GAZA; That you demand a total withdrawal of financial (taxpayer) and commercial support and arms for continued occupation in Israel’s 70+ year occupation in Palestine; That it is shameful that [X] is choosing not to speak up for the deaths of more than 11,000 Palestinians, half of whom are children and thousands of others displaced; That Palestinians like all people, deserve life, dignity and justice; That Israel is breaking multiple international laws daily and Canada MUST meet its international commitment to promote and defend human rights under the Geneva Convention; That not putting these actions in place will harm constituents and undo acts of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and other marginalized communities in Canada by not protecting the Indigenous peoples of Palestine; That unless there is concrete and everlasting action taken place, that there will be no peace until Palestine is free, and subsequently that you will not be voting for them (if applicable) in the next election.
Sign off with your name, address and postal code (if applicable, furthering that you are a resident on the stolen Indigenous lands otherwise known as “Canada”) Extended fax list: Scott thomson (president of scotiabank) - 416-866-5929 joe biden / whitehouse - 202-456-2461

Just sharing a Canadian email campaign here off of instagram since a lot of mobilizing calls I’ve seen have been US centric. Islamic Relief Canada has a letter template demanding a ceasefire and humanitarian aid corridor be opened in Gaza and specifically addresses yesterday’s (Oct 17) hospital bombing. The campaign goal is 75,000 emails and it takes less than 10 seconds 2 fill out. They even auto fill your region’s member of parliament.
If u want to write your own email I also linked the MP finder website. It just searches by postal code and lists your representative’s contact information including phone and email for u.

hi! following up as the person in the US who wanted to buy the Clover skirt design off the CA site. I tried to input my address, but it seems that the page only accepts Canadian addresses to calculate shipping. the drop-down for "Country/Region" only has Canada as an option (which makes sense haha). when I input a US address, city, and postal code, nothing populates in the shipping calculation part of the page. I suppose this means it's not technically possible for those in the US to order off the CA site even when willing to pay additional for shipping and customs. just wanted to let you all know!
Tumblr media
ah im sorry, that wrong info is totally on me. 😭
i was either operating on old info ash told me or misunderstood what she said--you do have to have your shipping address in canada to order from the canada store.
allowing other places to order from the canada store just makes a huge mess on the backend for shipping stuff and would make a bunch of extra work for us bc right now the canada store is only set up to work with canada post.
sorry again for giving you the wrong info! 😭

Hi would you be able to help spread this petition to get the charges against Calgary organizer Wesam Khaled dropped? He’s being charged with “disturbing the peace" and police told him that the charge was related to his use of the chant "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” which the police decided to treat as an “offensive anti-semitic comment.”
https://www.cjpme.org/exonerate_wesam_khaled
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there is a form at the link where you fill out your name email and postal code (as far as i can tell you don't have to be from alberta nor canada in general) and hit 'send email' to let calgary- and alberta-based politicians know that arresting wesam khaled is wrong, it takes less than 2 mins to do

Canadian Book News
Information from the Giller Prize.
Very soon, in Canada, books that are imported from the US (i.e. a shit ton of them) are gonna be made a lot more expensive bc of the tariffs. This means that access to books will be more difficult, as stores will have reduced inventory. This is also a threat to local bookstores, which serve as not only small businesses but community hubs.
What can you do to help?
Spread the word. The more people that know about these changes, are the more people who can potentially help
Shop locally. Support businesses in your community if you are able. Don’t know where any of them are? Find out here!
Participate more in community events (again, if you’re able to) hosted at your local bookstores. There are often book signings, readings, and other events happening. Find out what’s scheduled and volunteer or attend. (Volunteer work can be put on your resume!! There are benefits to both yourself and your community!!)
Reach out to your local MP asking them to exclude books from the tariffs. Let them know about the impact it will have on communities. If you don’t know who your MP is, you can search by your postal code here.
Please reblog this post to help protect Canada’s bookstores. Thank you for your time!

idk if this is a dumb question or not, but how do you calculate shipping for pre-orders? ive searched around but nothing has given me a clear answer and i was hoping you might have some info? (im canadian btw, jic thats helpful info lol)
hiya! basically you just weigh the item and go to your shipping courier's website (e.g. im assuming most likely canada post, there are also places like stallion express and chitchats within canada) and you're aiming to find 3 basic rates: - domestic* - USA - international** within USA is easy since it's all one rate (i'm in toronto, for example if you're sending something as close as NYC, compared to cali, or hawaii, the shipping rate isn't that much different in my experience, maybe just a few cents) *within canada if you've ever sent mail, it depends based on distance, as you probably know. so id divide it up based on region and find a general rate for those (e.g. ontario, quebec, maritimes, northwest territories, prairies, BC) my rule of thumb is like, my home province is my "base" rate, and every other region would be like a few dollars more, places like the north where shipping might not be as accessible will be the highest unfortunately **internationally it depends on the country, and obviously it's impossible to generate a rate for all the countries in the world HAHA. i find UK the cheapest intl area to send mail to, and id price it around the same as other provinces in canada. generally it is still okay to send stuff to the EU and UK, none of my customers have had tariff complaints (and if you did im sorry :( i cannot control em...) places like australia and south east asia i find unusually high. with intl you also want to check if canada will even send mail there in the first place, mail might not get delivered to some countries/areas, especially if there are intl conflicts unfortunately, or remote areas. how to find shipping costs in the first place? well firstly you need an address.. and to find addresses? you can look up postal codes by area (this is public info) and plug that in, some websites won't work without a full address however. this is a really funny way to generate an address but ill like. find the city hall address or like, the address of a public building and plug that in.. and voila you get a general shipping cost for an area. it's weird but it works... there's also a canadian con discord channel that you can join and you might find useful! hope that helps!
