’Tis the Season to Kill the Dead-Mom Holiday Movie Trope
Tumblr media
"Look, I get it: I’d also be relieved to find out my new bonk buddy wasn’t a philanderer. I’m not mad at Cameron; I’m mad that the dead wife-mom is a plot device in more Christmas movies than I can stuff in a stocking."
Before you curl up with a holiday movie, check out Cat Modlin-Jackson's new Longreads feature. It might just make you think differently about those festive frolics.

"B-but we need to see both sides🥺"
I did. One side spread lies (which have been debunked numerous times) while the other had parents carrying the remains of their children in plastic bags on camera and crying out for help.
One side is living in safety with food, unlimited water supply, electricity, and an internet connection. The other side's infrastructure is destroyed due to carpet bombing, they have no food, more than 90% of their water supply is contaminated, and even before the 7th of October, Israel controlled their water supply.
One side has healthcare, while the other side's healthcare system completely collapsed due to the continuous bombing and lack of fuel and electricity.
One is colonizing, while the other side is colonized and subjected to ethnic cleansing.

Second week in my Hobonichi Weeks 2024. It was a challenge to draw the Christmas ornaments and make them look shiny, but I think I did not bad.

In December, our conversations become longer; everybody acts surprised by how quickly the year came to an end when we all know how. We talk about being better next year, we write resolutions but never fulfil the ones we wrote the previous year. The season turns extreme, leaves don't fall anymore, they die on their branches. Some people await the holidays while some fear how different or similar their life will be next year (they always fear the latter) In December we realize that life is fickle and death might come uninvited.

28.12.2022 - I've been attempting to finish a couple of books before the end of the year and updating my journals. I should probably be working on my essay but I'm so tired that I can't face it until term starts again.
Currently reading: Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott; Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson; The Red and the Black by Stendhal

Do not speak of Palestinians as if they are already all wiped out. Do not try to make it seem as if their cause is dead. Do not speak of it as if it's in the past. Palestine is alive. Palestine is still in the present. Do not mourn the loss of lives not lost. Keep talking about Palestine! From the river to the sea!
