Meal times

The German proverb Iss dein Frühstück wie ein Kaiser, Mittagessen wie ein König und Abendessen wie ein Bettler (Eat your breakfast like an emperor, lunch like a king, and dine like a pauper) sums up the German outlook toward meals.

A typical day begins with Frühstück (breakfast), when people drink coffee, tea, or hot cocoa and eat muesli with yogurt or milk or bread with butter, jam, honey, chocolate and hazelnut spread, sausage, or cheese. Some people also drink juice and eat a boiled egg. This usually takes place between 6 and 8 a.m. Children usually eat a mid-morning snack at school called Pausenbrot (recess sandwich) that consists of a sandwich, a piece of fruit, or a muesli bar. The adult version is called Zwischenmahlzeit (in-between meal).

Mittagessen (lunch) takes place between 12 and 2 p.m. A typical lunch dish includes potato salad with sausage or meatballs and meat with potatoes or vegetables. It is common for family members and friends to gather between 3 and 5 p.m. for Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake).

Dishes

German cuisine varies from region to region, and what is considered typically German is actually typical in the south, mainly Bavaria, where cuisine is similar to that in Austria. There are also international varieties such as doner kebab, pizza, sushi, Chinese food, Greek food, Indian food, and Vietnamese food.

Bread and sausage are staples of the German diet. There are about 600 types of bread and almost 1,500 sausage varieties, including Bratwurst (made of ground pork, beef, or veal and spices) and Weißwurst (white sausage eaten with sweet mustard, a pretzel, and beer).

The national alcoholic drink is beer, of which there are many varieties, including Helles (a pale lager beer produced in southern Germany), Radler (a beer mixed with lemonade), and Weizenbier (a top-fermented beer brewed with a large proportion of wheat relative to the amount of malted barley).

Berliner/Krapfen/Pfannkuchen

These sweet dough dumplings, filled with jam and glazed with powdered sugar, are known as Berliner in northern and western Germany, Pfannkuchen in eastern Germany, and Krapfen in southern Germany.

Birnen, Bohnen und Speck

Birnen, Bohnen und Speck (pears, beans, and bacon) is a dish made with pears, green beans, and bacon, accompanied by potatoes. It is eaten in Bremen and Lower Saxony.

Bratkartoffeln

Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes) are fried potato slices with diced bacon and/or onions.

Brezel

Brezeln (pretzels) are baked pastries made from dough and shaped into a symmetrical knot. They are typically seasoned with salt, but can also have toppings such as cheese or seeds.

Brot

Brot (bread) comes in many different types, from white wheat bread (Weißbrot) to gray (Graubrot) to black (Schwarzbrot), which is actually dark brown rye bread. Some breads contain both wheat and rye flour and are called Mischbrot. Others have seeds such as linseed and sunflower seeds and are wholegrain (Vollkornbrot). Bread can also be made from spelt (Dinkelbrot), rye (Roggenbrot), or a mix of these with wheat.

Brötchen (bread rolls) are also very common and can be made from the same cereals and seeds as normal bread.

Currywurst

Currywurst is Berlin's most famous dish and consists of a pork sausage with ketchup and curry powder.

Eierschecke

Eierschecke, whose name is derived from a tripartite piece of clothing, consists of three layers: the bottom one is either a yeast dough or made with baking soda, the middle layer is a cream made of quark, vanilla, butter, egg, sugar, and milk, and the top one is made from eggs, butter, sugar, and vanilla pudding powder. It is a specialty from Saxony and Thuringia.

Fischbrötchen

A Fischbrötchen (fish bread roll) is a sandwich made with various fish, either pickled or fried, and onions, common in northern Germany.

Flammkuchen

Flammkuchen means "pie baked in the flames" and originates from Baden in Baden-Württemberg and the Palatinate in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is similar to a pizza with thin crust covered with crème fraîche, onions, and lardons.

Frikadellen

Frikadellen are flat-bottomed, pan-fried meatballs of minced meat. They are commonly eaten with pasta salad or potatoes, or in a bread roll with mustard.

Himmel und Erde

Himmel und Erde (heaven and earth) is a dish with mashed potatoes, stewed apples and fried blood pudding. Potatoes are also called Erdäpfel (ground apples), so it is a meal made with apples that grow above and under the earth. It is popular in the Rhineland in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, Westphalia in North Rhine-Westphalia, and Lower Saxony.

Kirschenmichel

Kirschenmichel is a kind of bread pudding made with cherries and served hot with vanilla sauce. It is typically eaten in Franconia in Bavaria and Thuringia, the Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, and Hesse.

Klöße/Knödel

These dumplings are known as Klöße in northern, central, and western Germany and Knödel in southern Germany. They are usually made from flour, bread, or potatoes. There are different varieties, including dumplings made of ground liver or breadcrumbs.

Kohlroulade

A Kohlroulade (cabbage roll) consists of cooked cabbage leaves wrapped around a meat filling seasoned with garlic, onion, and spices. Rinderrouladen are similar but consist of bacon and onions wrapped in beef.

Leipziger Allerlei

Marmorkuchen

Maultaschen ("mouth bags") are large meat-filled dumplings typical of Swabian cuisine. They can also be filled with spinach, onions, and spices and can be either served with broth or cut into slices and fried with eggs.

Reibekuchen

Schupfnudel

Arwen: Arwen really hates cooking and figuring out food. She will if she has to but will hate every minute of her, so the best way to get to her heart is to organize that for her. If someone organizes it for her, whether it be cooking for her or getting her favorite takeout, she just melts. Marcia thankfully loves to cook, so they work well together lmao. Marcia: Marcia loves to be spoiled and told how wonderful and appreciated she is. She really loves experiences - fancy date nights, couples dates at the spa, impromptu weekend getaways….stuff like that. Saoirse: Saoirse really loves when people very obviously listen to her and remember things she’s said and act on those things. She teaches high school, and while she loves her students and what she does, it does get really frustrating sometimes because it can feel like she’s speaking to a wall and has to spend the majority of her day repeating herself. Someone hanging on her every word, and remembering something she’d said weeks ago and bringing it up later is something that just makes her feel SO special and loved. Jasmine: Little acts of service make Jasmine feel really loved. She’s so used to having to be hyper-competent at work and it makes her melt a bit when someone does something for her, even if she’s perfectly capable of and planning on doing something herself. Sometimes she’ll come home after a long, hard day of work, and the house is clean, and Saoirse’s just gotten dinner in the oven, and she kisses her cheek and tells her she’ll draw her a bath and pour her a glass of wine, and she’s all 🥺🥺🥺. It works platonically, too. If one of her coworkers takes the time to grab her a coffee from the cart without her asking, she just dies lmao

☕ - Coffee or tea?

Arwen: Arwen loves iced coffee no matter the weather. Even when it’s freezing, she prefers iced coffee over hot. She usually takes it with oat milk and whatever syrup she’s feeling that day, usually hazelnut vanilla. Marcia: Marcia is a tea kind of person. She loves all kinds of tea, but she tends to prefer earl gray or herbal teas. With earl gray, she takes it with a little bit of cream and sugar, and with herbal teas she’ll add a bit of honey. Not too much, just enough to give it a little bit of sweetness. Saoirse: Saoirse is a coffee person, preferably as black as her soul. Even better would be an IV of coffee directly into her veins, but that’s not possible yet lol. She really likes nitro cold brews, or just plain black coffee. Jasmine: Jasmine is neither a coffee or tea person. She doesn’t really like the taste of either, but will consent to drinking tea when she’s sick (only because her throat always hurts SO bad when she’s sick. That and cough drops are the only things that help). To get her caffeine fix, she usually opts for the largest size available of either Diet Coke or Coke Zero. 

💀 - How do they feel about horror movies?

Arwen: Arwen doesn’t really like horror movies. She thinks they’re dumb, and has no interest in watching them. Marcia: Marcia doesn’t like horror movies. She was raised really religious, and although she’s deconstructed years ago, she still doesn’t really fuck with spooky stuff. She doesn’t really believe in it anymore, but It’s just kind of a holdover from it being drilled into her head that horror and paranormal stuff is satanic lmao. Saoirse and Jasmine: They do enjoy horror movies, but really only during spooky season when they can really get in the mood for it. They won’t really watch any of them outside of October.

This might be kind of a boring answer, but I don’t really feel like any of these four ever try to impress their partner! They’re all pretty secure and established in their relationship, and any impressing they do is completely unintentional. Marcia may occasionally try and impress Arwen, if only to be given praise lmao.

I have an idea for a fantasy cuisine in a world I'm building. So, their climate is cool and moist, and the region of the country in which the story takes place is Penbre, a region compromised of five hills surrounded by wetlands.

Their climate is rainy and mild, fairly in the Cfb zone. Their most basic food is oats and they developped a domesticated version of cattails with larger bases to be nutricious food. They also cultivate rye at the top of the "Twin Hills", where it gets dry enough for it. The region is home to the capital, as well as to their countrie's best ceramic (bone porcelain, faience, earthwere and terracota). Being a costal capital, it has good access to trade, allowing exotic goods to be present, such as coffee, cacao and tea. The main condiments are shallots and rowan. Most fruits eaten are bird cherries, hazelnuts and cranberries, and the only apples they have is through trade. Honey making is also there, although in a minor way. The region is also known for it's wool and cheese, often flavored with various berry wine by-products. The capital itself produces mushrooms to make it less dependant on other provinces. Birch-sap is the main liquid used to make alcohol, most often wine. The main meats consummed are pork and pigeon, and because of the sometimes hostile merpeople, carp, freshwater mussles and crayfish are more common on the menue than sea-food, although they are consummed too.

The region has two local deserts: one is a primitive form of marzipan using bird cherry pits/nuts, boiled first in water and then in honey before being crushed into a thick dough, while the fruit pulp is used as a flavoring. The second regional desert is comprised of dried kelp boiled in a mixture of water, wine, honey and various crushed berries, with an addition of milk solids, creating a "jelly" so thick it's sliceable. Although, the most common way to cook kelp is with extremely watery gruel.

Dark Fantasy portfolio project

So, the main country for the setting, I don't have a name for it yet.

It has four regions: North-West, South-West, North East and South East.

The North-West region has the province of the capital, or the Penbre province. It contails the capital city, an outpost and 11 farming villages supplying the capital with most of it's food. It is limited in the South by the great Cliff, to the West by the sea, in the North by the mount Fay and by the swamps in the East. It's primary crops are oats and rutapaga, while peas, shallots, radishes and cresses are grown as the main vegetables. Thyme is a popular condiment. It's most abundont fruits are rowan, virburnum, cranberries, hazel, cedar and bird cherry. It's only open boarder is the North, being closed at the south by shield plate and steep banks, by a swamp in the East and the sea in the West. Plenty of birch, pine, rowan and cedar cover the land, both wild and domesticated. Rowan is a favored gardened tree for it's small size and longivity.

Drinks are very seasonal: rowan tea or virburnum flavored eau-de-vie in the winter, fresh birch sap, young birch wine and early pine beer in early spring, beer in summer (be it oat or pine-based), mead or infusions, sometimes berry-wine. Cranberries might be added to other alcoholic bevrages to inhense flavors. Hazel and bird-cherry tea in fall. In swampier areas water cress and cattails are a favored plant in times of plenty and hardship alike.

Pork and mutton are the prefered meats, but crabs, crayfish, freshwater shellfish and pigeons are secondly the most consummed during the hot season. Duck and goose are also quite popular. Beef is rather rare, as cattle are too precious to break up the hard soil to be killed for meat. Horse, dog or cat are precious animals and if they are eaten, it is out of desperation. Birch leaves, inner bark and catkins are usually not eaten by the mainstream unless there is a famine, but is commonly cosmmed by the parias, especially the torturer and executioner guild, as it's considered a by-product of making torture instruments.

The main sources of fat are butter, cheese, hazelnuts, pig fat and duck fat.

Besides it's food, the region is well-known for it's textiles, mostly wool, occasionally hemp that is finely woven. Most fabrics are either brown, peach, yellow or pink thanks to the abundonce of birch trees, hazelnut husks and shallot barks. However, the capital also has access to other imported dyes such as cochenille, acorns, lichens, woad, indigo and more. Other luxury imports to the capital are barley, buckwheat, honey and coffee.

Besides textiles, the region's next greatest source of crafts are faïence and other ceramics of various qualities, producing particularly beautiful coffee cups and herbal tea jars.

Local monasteries also produce flavored cheeses from various animals, providing a nice diversity of diets. It's mount fay has an underground city of Pyroxene Drow as well as a fairy colony, probably of cranberry fairies. The Eastern Swamps are house to Fées des Houles living with nixes and low elves, fiercely protecting the central parts of these swamps. The region is also particularly haunted by various creatures and undead beings.

In Penbre, wheat, lentils and apples are considered luxury products, although in the cities, they are vastly more available.

5. Sickly/Sweet

Sam’s kisses are sweet, Bucky has come to realize.

Their first kiss tasted of cinnamon and honey. Though, Bucky is partially to blame for that one; the apple pie was his creation after all.

Their morning kisses tend to taste like that sickly sweet abomination Sam calls coffee, a wide contrast to Bucky’s black, but he can deal.

Good night kisses are a little minty like Sam’s favorite toothpaste.

At the office, kisses are always an anticipated surprise. They vary in taste depending on what type of gum Sam feels like chewing that day. Watermelon is Bucky’s favorite.

Some of them are tinged with blood from a busted lip, and full of adrenaline after a tough mission, but they still taste sweet underneath. They taste of Sam, and Sam’s kisses are always sweet.

The day they went cake tasting had an array of differently flavored kisses: chocolate, strawberry, hazelnut with a hint of dark chocolate. But they all had one thing in common, how sweat they were. Except for that citrus olive oil cake, Bucky doesn’t like to talk about that one.

Sometimes they’re a little salty, mixed with tears after they’ve had their first big argument. Or later, with sweat, as they make up for it.

Rarely do they ever feel sour, but sometimes they do. Like when they say goodbye before one of Sam’s solo missions.  

Morning kisses have been tasting of pancakes and maple syrup lately. Ava is the one to blame for those; she demands they have pancakes for breakfast every day.

Sam’s kisses are sweet, Bucky has come to realize.

VP and Ice Cream

Chamber is a vanilla BEAN ice cream man, bonus points if it has some kind of nut or actual fruit in it. He is a caramel drizzle drama king.

Sage likes Mint Chooclate chip, Rocky Road and a bit of Gelato (doesn’t matter the flavor. She likes whip cream as a topping, cocoa powder as another.

Raze takes me as a coffee ice cream person, she found a place that makes their own soft serve coffee ice cream. She’s a no toppings kind of gal, just wants to enjoy the beautiful taste of the coffee.

Yoru is a chocolate lover, he’d never tell anyone, anything triple chocolate he’ll get, toppings? You guessed it, chocolate drizzle, some frozen strawberries, raspberries as well. Don’t even THINK about asking if there’s anything other than chocolate on his list.

KJ is an icie kinda gal, the ice pops, Talenti brand for her assorted fruitie frozen desserts. Mango is her favorite and strawberry is a close second. Yeah this isn’t ice cream, but it’s a frozen treat and that’s what counts.

Brimstone is a man that looooves the strawberry part in a Neapolitan ice cream container, he also has Raze get him strawberry ice cream when she goes to get her coffee one. He likes light chocolate drizzle, doesn’t want it to over power the strawberry. From Wendy’s, strawberry Frost LARGE for the Stone.

Jett, Jett is the kinda gal that loooves brownies in her ice cream, she’ll get a cookie dough and crumple up a brownie for an added “yum” to the treat. She also likes to have her ice cream a little melted so it soaks into that brownie juuuust right.

Skye loves her some Candy Bar ice cream, a little bit of everything just hits her sweet tooth just right. She also likes to add candy bar to just normal vanilla ice cream.

Neon? Neon is the gal that dunks fries and nuggets into her milkshake. Doesn’t matter the flavor, it’ll happen and you can say nothing about it cause it’ll make her dunk harder and give you more eye contact. Her favorite flavor of all though is a strawberry vanilla swirl(or what I’m calling and pink and white. Cause a black and white is Vanilla and chocolate so why not?)

Viper, Viper just likes Yogurt, any and all flavor. I know it’s not ice cream. But are you gonna try and argue with Viper? Cause I’m sure as hell not. Her favorites are the ones that come with toppings.

Fade likes Gelato the most, orange and kiwi if they had it. She’s found some starfruit ones and has fallen in love.

Cypher’s favorite ice cream reminds him of his family, it gives him the good times before his life went to hell. A nice Burnt Honey ice cream, ice creams cold I get it, but it gives our baby a warmth that he misses til this day.

Reyna, Reyna is a Frozen Yogurt Gal. She likes to get the mango one for a hot summer day with some different flavored mochi, some chocolate covered pretzels and some almonds. Besides a hot day, she likes the peanut butter kind with chocolate covered almonds, kiwis and pieces of strawberries. And yeah you /will/ spoon feed her. -Management

Astra loves caramel peanut butter chocolate ice cream. She likes to add her own nuts, hazelnuts, almonds and cashews to the mix.

Phoenix is an ice cream sandwich kind guy. Sometimes chocolate on chocolate, or chocolate with cookies and cream. Either way, if it’s in a sandwich he’ll eat it.

Breach is the man that likes the fruit pops with the chimoy. He likes his fruit spicy. I know it’s not ice cream.

Sova, Sova likes a crème brûlée flavored ice cream. So push it further a dark chocolate drizzle, a couple of raspberries.

Mayday: She prefers teas, but will sometimes drink hot chocolate made with water and not milk.

Zuke: Tries to stick with either tea or black coffee. He stays away from added sugars so his blood sugar doesn't rise.

DJSS: Hot chocolate, hands down. He hates tea and only coffee he consumes is coffee flavored sweets (you can't stop this guy from eating coffee macarons).

Sayu: Any really work. Sweet teas, very sweet coffee, hot chocolate. It's all nice to mer, as long as it isn't bitter, which is why ze will pass on trying coffee if ze doesn't know how it was made.

Aoi: Probably a black coffee drinker. Maybe some like almond or soy milk in it because he likes the taste better than cow milk.

Haru: Probably cold hot chocolate (which sea says is different from chocolate milk).

Yua: Iced coffee or bubble tea.

Renho: Tea.

Remi: Tea, but will drink cocoa made with water if Mayday makes some for him.

Tila: Tea with honey.

Dodo: Doesn't really like any of those, would rather lemonade. Maybe would like sweet tea if introduced to it.

Sofa: Coffee, any kind of way but will not drink it with a milk substitute. Soy milk is gross to them and almond milk or any other kind of tree nut milk can kill them.

Yinu: Hot cocoa with either hazelnut milk or vanilla almond milk. She's not allowed to drink coffee and even if she was she probably wouldn't like it. Will drink tea occasionally.

Mama: Prefers tea but will drink coffee to help stay up.

Papa: Coffee and hot chocolate. Used to drink a lot of Champurrado until Yinu came into his life and couldn't drink milk. He never realized there were vegan/lactose-free versions of the drink otherwise he'd have made it for Yinu a lot.

Neon: Before being a cyborg, his go to would be coffee. He actually would make a soju infused coffee for him and Martha a lot of the time. Though after the divorce he stopped with the coffee and just drank the soju alone (or whatever kinds of alcohol he'd have on hand). After the cyborgification he doesn't drink any of those. He just drinks/eats nutritious smoothies or shakes. Even if they taste awful, it doesn't matter because he can't taste anymore.

Rin: Probably would like a salted caramel coffee over anything else. Though it probably doesn't care for any of those to have on a regular basis. Water is just fine for it.

Purl-hew: Coffee. Absolutely, hands down, Purl is in it for coffee. Literally one of the easiest ways to start getting close to Purl is to get them coffee. And if you make it an alcoholic coffee? Even better.

Zimelu: She probably doesn't care, as long as it tastes good. So like, a good coffee will be picked over a bad cocoa, and vice versa. I would say out of the three, tea would be the least drank, but if offered or she goes to a place with good teas then she'll definitely drink it.

Haym: He likes MAKING the drinks more than drinking them. He does not like tea at all because a lot of the time it isn't as strong as he would want it to be. Cocoa is something he'll drink, but overall coffee would be his go to choice. Though let me tell you, once he figures out about spicy hot cocoa, he'll be making that all the time for at least a month until he gets sick of it.

Eloni: No preference. As long as it's warm, so no iced coffee or sweet teas for them.

Dew: Probably an iced coffee kind of person. Or cold drinks in general. For some reason, even though he was hurt by the cold, he prefers his food and drinks to be very cold.

Maragold: Fruity teas!

Carna: Fae is stealing sips of coffee from everyone and then complaining because it sucks, only to go and take more sips. Otherwise, faes drinking lemonades.

Eve: Coffee and tea depending on the time of day and what she wants to accomplish. Will try the water cocoa Mayday makes but doesn't really like it. Will go out for coffee art or try to make her own.

Tatiana: She tends to just drink water or maybe an energy drink like gatorade (not an energy drink for the energy, idk what gatorades are classified as), but she is known to indulge in hot cocoa from time to time. Also maybe some tea if it's offered, but she doesn't go out of her way to drink it.

Kliff: I definitely see him as a coffee enjoyer. He gets some cheap ass coffee beans and makes his own shitty coffee that he seems to really enjoy a lot.

DK West: He mainly drinks tea but will also drink coffee. Hasn't had cocoa in years, but would be willing to have it again.

Cyril: Oh this bitch is living off of coffee. The only time he drinks tea is when he is sick or he thinks he has to rest his voice, then it's just some soothing tea with honey that he chokes down unhappily.

Noa: The cook of Ex-Jay, he's the one who is making the good coffee or tea for everyone, otherwise these idiots would be buying the worst beans or shitty leaves and making horrible tasting drinks they would pour down the drain. But, Noa is making himself some coconut-infused hot cocoa and eating it with some potato crisps

Asa: Will steal some hot cocoa from Noa if available, otherwise buys black coffee to drink.

Rei: Tea drinker. Usually sticking to black tea. Him and Bunny kinda do the Chinese tea ceremony where they dump their tea on tea pets.

Bunny: Tea and coffee drinker. Likes doing the tea ceremony where she dumps tea on tea pets (of course she has a bunny pet) and she got Rei to start joining her. She tries all kinds of teas and loves trying new leaves to steep.

Elivy: Drinks mainly tea now, but was a heavy coffee drinker when he was younger.

Quida: Similar to Elivy, she used to drink a lot of coffee when younger. She still drinks coffee regularly, but has actually started drinking more hot cocoa, especially with her grand kid.

Joust: Black coffee. He used to add milk or cream but now he just drinks it straight. Sometimes he adds a bit of alcohol, but mainly it's just him drinking really crappy coffee.

Martha: Coffee. Cream and sugar in hers.

Aria: She doesn't drink any of those drinks. Sometimes she will try to drink tea for the health benefits but just doesn't like it that much. Though she hasn't tried all kinds of teas and I think she would like fruity teas or milk teas.

Esther: Coffee, though she will never turn down some good cocoa.

Braam: Coffee, and he will turn down cocoa. Well okay, he'll take it but just so he can give it to Esther so she had more cocoa. Though once Catherine came around he started giving it to her which made Esther pout and leading him to buy her more cocoa.

Alyona: Coffee mainly, but she used to make this really nice hot cocoa with a kind of toffee sauce that Matvey and Tatiana loved.

Matvey: Coffee with some coffee liqueur is what he goes for. He doesn't drink tea at all and hasn't had hot cocoa since Alyona passed.

Sarabi: She's a tea drinker, but will also have coffee with some neighbors, especially the beans are from one of the local businesses that she loves.

Nuru: Drinks coffee but also drinks soup broth. Like, he will have a thermos around him just holding some of the most delicious and rich soup broth ever and will drink that a lot of the time. Much to Nova's horror whenever he thinks he is about to take a sip of some water or something.

Celine: Probably a split between tea and coffee. Like Eve, it depends on what she is trying to do or the time.

Barbara: A mix of all three. Whatever she is in the mood for. If she had to choose one then a sweet or fruity tea is what she's picking.

Joey: Coffee. Black coffee probably. But it would be some high quality coffee that he says doesn't need any kind of milk or sugar.

Yiruk: I feel like it drinks way too much coffee then it should be. It will also drink a lot of hot cocoa, especially at a really good cafe.

Kayane: Tea drinker, all kinds of teas, hot or cold. But will also drink an iced coffee.

Tim may have let something slip when he was losing blood and about to go into surgery. Ra's may have taken him completely seriously and done what was requested. Tim...finds that he perhaps did not have a normal relationship with his body, and that he may have actually been Trans the entire time and just. Didn't think about it. Or, Tim demands a Secondary Gender Transition from Ra's. Ra's takes him seriously and does it while Tim's under for spleen removal (Nothing violating, just HRT and induced coma for the physical Transition). Tim wakes up an Omega instead of an Alpha and...actually is pretty okay with it.

Tim was…floaty. Woozy, even. The kind of feeling that usually meant a fantastic sleep was just around the corner.

But some inconsiderate fuck was jostling his arm.

Tim groaned and swatted at them.

“…Ah. You’re awake.”

“Oh, he’s awake? Come, Detective, open your eyes.”

Gross.

That sounded like Ra’s Al Ghul.

Time forced his eyes open just so he could glare at the man.

The asshole just looked amused.

“Fascinating. You’ve lost almost enough blood to kill you and yet, here you are. Awake.” Ra’s even sounded mildly impressed.

Tim did not want to impress Ra’s.

“Gooo f’ck yersef.” 

Yes. There. That got the point across beautifully.

Ra’s, the jackass, just looked even more amused.

“I see. Well, we have to put you under to save your life, dear Detective, unless you would rather have a dip in the Pits. I would consider such an offer a…gift, if you would.”

Tim snorted, flapping his hand at Ra’s and inadvertently slapping a ninja nurse in the face.

Whoops.

“On’y gift I neeeeed is. Is. Heats.”

Ra’s raised an eyebrow.

“I denand the. The. I wanna bee uh ‘Mega.”

Ra’s raised his other eyebrow.

“…I see. Very well, Detective. I hope you enjoy this…little gesture of goodwill.”

“Fuhuuck yew very moch.”

“Indeed.”

Tim woke up.

That was something he hadn’t really been expecting, but he was thrilled to do it nonetheless.

Less thrilling was where he was.

A bedroom draped in silks and finery, with the security risk of wide windows, an open door that led to an uncomfortably extravagant bathroom, and a weird smell. It was a good scent, to be sure, but when Tim sat up there was no one present but himself.

So…huh. 

Tim sniffed the air.

The scent was definitely a person’s. Coffee and Honey, and a lingering afterscent of roasted hazelnuts. 

It was pleasant.

It was also an Omega scent.

Which made Tim even more confused; Ra’s was an Alpha, and this definitely wasn’t Talia’s scent. Nor was it Pru’s. So who’s room was he in? And why did he feel so rested? He almost never felt like that.

Tim swung his legs over the edge of the bed, noting the lack of chains, and stood up to stretch.

He…felt good? He felt comfortable in his skin? He never felt comfortable in his skin. He braced himself for his own scent as he stretched, but instead was met with more of that strange Omega’s scent.

Wait.

Tim reached up and rubbed one of his own scent glands, giving himself a sniff.

Coffee. Honey. Lingering Roasted Hazelnuts.

Omega.

Which was a huge change, because the last time Tim had checked he was absolutely an Alpha with a, for some reason, repugnant scent. (Everyone swore to him it was all in his head, but he knew he reeked.)

Then he remembered the last thing he said to Ra’s.

Tim tensed, waiting to feel…something. Revulsion. Betrayal.

But there was nothing.

He just…felt like Tim; for the first time since he was an unpresented Pup.

Tim sat back down and wrinkled his nose, lifting the League shirt he was wearing to check on the stab wound he knew he’d had coming in.

It was healing nicely, and given the length of time for a transition, he’d been under for about a month.

He didn’t feel any abnormal aches or pains, so not only was it done correctly and in a controlled environment, but he hadn’t been raped. He knew the signs to look for and none were present.

He was absolutely going to go to a Crisis Center as soon as he could just to be sure, and Turkey was home to some of the best of the best, so he was confident that if he had been violated he would find everything he’d need resource wise no problem. But he felt like he had a bead on how Ra’s worked; that if Ra’s wanted to use him like that, he’d want Tim awake to…struggle. As disgusting as that was.

But he hadn’t.

Ra’s really had just…given Tim a free Transition to a different Secondary Gender.

Tim tried, he really did, to dredge up any resentment for the Transition.

He was angry that he was clearly being held by Ra’s. He was pissed that Ra’s would even consider that Tim would be so stupid as to think those windows weren’t lined with assassins just out of sight. He was annoyed at the lack of obvious trackers, as that meant there was probably a subdermal one. He was scared for Pru. He was worried about Tam. 

But regarding changing Secondary Gender?

He only felt…relief.

“Wait, was I trans the entire time?”

Hated his own scent? Check; Bruce and Dick were always getting onto him about abusing scent blockers. Always felt like crawling out of his skin? Check; it usually manifested in burying himself in work. Avoided mirrors? Check; he just couldn’t, even though he knew that Secondary Genders didn’t really effect outward appearance like Primary Genders. Aversion to Rut sex? Check; Rut hadn’t given him any sex drive at all, it’d just increased his anxiety to the point where he was prescribed suppressants and anti-anxiety medication.

Tim rerouted his thinking, considering the same situations with his current Secondary Characteristics.

Scent? He actually rather enjoyed it; he definitely wouldn’t be wearing scent blockers unless he had to. Actually settled in his own skin? Yup, and he even felt…languid? Was that the word? It felt like the word. 

He stood up and walked into the adjoined bathroom, took a deep breath, and looked into the mirror.

That…that certainly was a Tim. From toe to tip, that was a Tim.

And he didn’t feel any particular way about the reflection, aside from the thought that he should brush his hair and teeth. There was no uncomfortable part of his brain that had him squirming, he didn’t feel the instinctive need to find any excuse not to look in the mirror.

It was just Tim.

He felt his shoulders relax.

He couldn’t know how different his Heats would be from how is Ruts had been, but given that during a Transition a Heat or Rut was inevitable while the Transitionee was under, and the fact that he actually felt well rested?

He was going to assume that his Heats were far better and easier on his body than his Ruts had been, but he couldn’t know for sure until he’d experienced a Heat.

…He wasn’t dreading it, though. Not the way the thought of future Ruts would fill him with a slow, stacking anxiety.

So.

Tim was trans.

Tim…Tim was a detective, though? How had he not noticed that sooner? Looking back on it it was super obvious but like. He hadn’t noticed?

Did everyone feel this settled in their own skin?!

Was this how people normally felt?! No wonder everyone gave him strange looks! He’d thought all of that was normal!

The door opened, distracting Tim from his thoughts. Which was good, because he’d been about to go off on a mental tangent about being an idiot.

The assassin that had come in only spared him a glance as the guy set down a tray of food.

“So…is Pru okay?” Tim ventured, slowly stepping out of the bathroom.

The assassin snorted.

“She is well enough to undergo further training, to ensure mistakes like that do not happen again. Orientation will begin after you’ve eaten, then the Demon Head would speak with you.”

Tim blinked.

“Wait, you’d actually let me have Orientation?”

The assassin sniffed, clearly offended even as he straightened up and turned towards the door.

“We are not savages. Honestly, Americans.” The man muttered as he left.

“-And so, in conclusion, while a Heat does make you more inclined to intercourse and does heighten the experience, it does not strip you of your autonomy. Should you feel that such is happening, it is advised to seek medical attention immediately; that is abnormal, and you have either been drugged or need medical intervention due to an extreme hormonal imbalance.”

Tim nodded along politely. He’d already known, but Orientation was important when Transitioning.

“For now, we shall practice performing a Rebuke. Do as you would with a Command, and your new physiology should handle the rest. Like so; Copy me.”

Tim twitched against the command, and fought against his innate need to fight it.

“..Copy me?”

“Very good.” The Omega Consultant in front of him nodded and wrote something in his tablet. Tim tried his best not to fidget. “Next is what to expect during a pregnancy, should you choose to pursue that.”

‘I wanted this, I wanted this, I wanted this-‘ Tim chanted to himself as he got Sex Ed version 2.0.

Dick was definitely not barely staving off a mental breakdown on his couch.

He totally hadn’t waited until Damian was asleep to bury himself in blankets and stare blankly at a dead TV.

Dick was fine. Dick was okay. Dick had to be okay, because if he wasn’t then he couldn’t be there for Damian and he couldn’t be ready for when Tim got back.

He’d told his little brother he trusted him, and he meant it, but that trust didn’t stop Dick from missing his pack’s shortest Alpha.

On the coffee table, his phone lit up and started vibrating.

A bright, cheery tone reserved for Tim, derived from the song he hated the most, rang out into the living room.

Dick almost faceplanted into the coffee table for how quickly he lunged for the tiny glowing screen, but he managed to save himself and fumble the phone to his ear.

“Tim! Hey! How’s it going? Are you okay? Do you need reinforcement?”

But instead of Tim’s voice, a deep, hoarse chuckle made it through the speaker.

Dick knew that voice.

Ra’s.

“Where’s Tim?” Dick breathed, tense and still.

“The young Detective isn’t really meant to be an Alpha, I feel,” the old assassin said instead of answering Dick, “I merely wanted to inform you of a delay in his return, should he choose to return at all. He needs time to…adjust. To his new body.”

Dick couldn’t feel his toes, and only barely managed to keep a grasp on the phone.

He opened his mouth to threaten Ra’s, probably demand to know where Tim was again, but all that came out was one of the loudest, most feral Growls he’d ever let loose.

“How is it? Being the only Alpha of your Pack now, with your Leader gone? You are watching after my grandson, after all; I simply need to ensure he will be raised in a stable environment.” Ra’s voice was full of false pity, and Dick could no longer see anything in front of him clearly.

“Do not fucking touch him!” Dick finally Commanded, guttural and loud and definitely waking Damian up.

“Oh, it’s a bit too late for that, I fear; who else would I trust to handle his Transition? Do tell my grandson I wish him well.” With that, the line went dead.

Dick was left standing in the living room, on the verge of hyperventilating, tense and shaking and furious.

“…Richard?” Damian’s voice asked, and Dick heard the Beta Pup quietly approaching him from his left. 

Dick dropped the phone and dragged Damian to him, burying his nose in the Pup’s hair. He was distantly aware of the Beta letting out a hesitant, quiet purr in an effort to calm him, but he couldn’t vocalize his gratitude for the action.

They stayed like that, Dick caging Damian in with his arms and Damian letting him, for about fifteen minutes.

Then Dick shakily raised his head and reached for his phone.

He couldn’t leave Gotham; Tim would never forgive him if Batman left Gotham undefended in such a tumultuous time.

But he knew an Omega who could, would, and would take great pleasure in putting Ra’s down.

Jason rolled over and answered the phone.

He hadn’t been sleeping anyways, so fuck it.

He held the phone to his ear.

He listened.

Green flooded the room, the source being his eyes, as he sat up.

“Ra’s did fucking what?”

Tim walked into the meeting room just as Ra’s ended a call with someone.

Using Tim’s phone.

Goddammit, he’d done something to make Tim’s life harder.

The Alpha handed Tim’s phone to a random assassin with a bored-“Destroy this.”

Tim kept his face clear of any emotion. He had the stupid thing cloned anyways, he’d just go find the backup once he was done with whatever Ra’s wanted.

Turned out, Ra’s had gone ahead and grabbed Tam.

Tim could only get Tam back if he took out the Council of Spiders.

Tim did his posturing, as did Ra’s, and the dance was a relatively new one but felt like they’d done it time and time again.

As Tim was being escorted out, though, he couldn’t help but ask.

“Why help me with…with the other thing? If you think you can cash it in later, let me tell you-“

“Why would I deny you an operation I myself had to have to be better?” Ra’s interrupted, genuine curiosity on his face. “I expect you to handle the Council of Spiders, young Detective; you would not be fighting at your best if you did not fit into your own skin.”

Tim was verbally punched into silence.

Huh.

The assassins led him into a different section, into a room that had his Red Robin suit repaired and ready for him.

…Huh.

Tim still intended to cripple Ra’s organization, and it felt gross to have something in common with the Alpha, but the new Omega decided that he could handle the trade of having something in common if it meant finally feeling like himself.

He seriously was going to fuck Ra’s over, though. 

He just had to call basically everyone on his phone’s contact list first to do damage control for…whatever the creep had done.

quilt - how do you take your tea (or coffee)?

coffee i usually put in flavored creamer, usually vanilla or hazelnut (fave) but if there's a seasonal flavor im all over it (pumpkin spice and sugar cookie my beloveds). and i like my coffee medium brown ish, just a splash of creamer.

for tea i usually drink it as is, but sometimes i'll add honey or rose sugar to it

i think humans are inherently neutral, like morality is more about what you do & what intentions you have than anything else

Can't I do both? Sometimes at the same time? But like, if I absolutely had to choose only one, my instinct says I'd pick cheese.

I answered this one before, and my answer is the same: either a cowboy cookie or a sandtart.

🐶Are you more of a dog person or a cat person?

Definitely more of a cat person. I like dogs, and I'm nice to them and say hello and stuff, but it is easier for me to take care of a cat than it is for me to take care of a dog. Also cat affection is more my speed.

🙃What’s a weird fact that you know?

Did you know ruby chocolate has a better claim to being "real" chocolate than white chocolate? This is because the standard of "real" chocolate is that it contains both cocoa solids and cocoa butter. Ruby chocolate, which at this point afaik is only being manufactured by places that make true chocolate couverture, has both while white chocolate only has cocoa butter. (By this metric, a lot of chocolate on the American market is not "real" chocolate because it replaces the cocoa butter with cheaper fats like vegetable oil.)

🥤What’s your go-to Starbucks order?

Either a half sweet vanilla blonde latte or a London Fog latte with an extra teabag. But I live in a college town that's honestly spoiled for choice when it comes to gourmet coffee shops, so I usually go to one of those instead. My favorite coffee drink of all time from any of them is probably the Stevie Nicks, a white chocolate cold brew topped with raspberry cold foam, but a close second would be the Honey Macchiato, a Starbucks style macchiato drink made with local honey and hazelnut syrup.

🧡A color you can’t stand?

Doesn't exist. Every color is good. It's context that matters. That said, context is highly important for some browns and greens. When I was driving through town with my sibling, I pointed out a car that was one of those greens and they were like, "Oh, I call that baby poop green." And like, They're Not Wrong, but again it's a context thing.

I'm usually doing decaf or halfcaf these days, but I prefer lattes with a light flavoring (hazelnut or toasted marshmallow, sometimes honey lavender). I'm also trying to enjoy coffee without too much flavor so I can actually understand and appreciate the taste of the coffee ☕
