mage viktor discourse again on twitter and all i can say in my little corner over here once again is, I don't know why the entire fandom takes it as canon that mage Viktor failed to save every world he manipulated.
Canon does not provide evidence of this. This is fanon speculation. It's a fine headcanon to have, but everyone talks about it like it's canon when it isn't. Canon is ambiguous about the outcome of the timelines mage Viktor altered. The little nods we are given point, in my opinion, towards the opposite conclusion, that he successfully averted destruction.
I've written meta on this before but in summary:
1) 'In all timelines, in all possibilities' is worded precisely, it's not 'out of all timelines'; the implication is that every time, Jayce brings Viktor back from the brink, not just in our timeline. 'Only you' doesn't refer to our timeline's Jayce, it refers to all Jayces. Jayce always brings him home. If Viktor continuously put the fate of each timeline in Jayce's hands and Jayce failed over and over, I don't think he'd say those words. And the way he says them matters. His words are tinged with wonder, not sorrow. As if over and over again, he is shown that Jayce saves him, and it continues to amaze him. He doesn't sound defeated, like this is the next in a long line of Jayces he's sending off to die. The feeling is that Viktor's faith in Jayce has not been misplaced.
2) If mage Viktor doomed every timeline, there would be hundreds (or more) mage Viktors. All running around manipulating timelines. I highly doubt the writers wanted to get into that kind of sticky situation. The tragedy of mage Viktor is that he is singular. Alone. Burdened with the responsibility of the multiverse. The emotional gut punch of his fate is ruined if other timelines led to the same outcome, and from a practical standpoint, having multiple reality-bending omniscient mages would rip apart the fabric of the arcane.
There are other points, such as there being only one corrupted Mercury Hammer and our Jayce is the only one to receive it, and the fact that if mage Viktor is as omniscient as he is implied to be, he could easily step back into other timelines and correct course, because it's highly unlikely he could sit still and watch things go down in flames. But these things can be argued elsewhere.
While I love conversations about mage Viktor's motives and selfishness vs altruism, the writers & artbook have expressed that Jayce and Viktor care greatly about Runeterra and want to fix their mistakes to save it, and that their reconciliation is symbolic of Piltover and Zaun coming together as well. Yes, they make disastrous decisions towards each other, making choices for the other or without the other, which has negative consequences for their relationship and for Runeterra - but I think fandom pushes their selfishness even past what's canon sometimes, as if their entire goal hadn't always been to selflessly help the world around them. Their final reconciliation is about bridging the gap that grew between them - the pain and grief and secrets, betraying themselves and each other - to mutually choose each other openly and honestly. Part of the beauty of their story, as expressed by the creators, is that in their final moments, they chose each other and took responsibility for their actions by sacrificing themselves to end what they started, together - and that choosing each other saved the world. TPTB have stated this - that Jayce and Viktor are the glue holding civilization together, and when they come back to each other, they can restore balance. It's when they're apart, when they hurt each other and miscommunicate, when they abandon their commitment to each other and their dream, that the greater world suffers. Their strife is mirrored in the story-world at large.
Mage Viktor is framed as a solitary penitent figure, damned to an eternity of atoning for his mistakes. He paid the ultimate price and now is forced to live his personal nightmare of exactly what he was trying to avoid for himself with the glorious evolution. The narrative clues we're given point more in the direction that he saves timelines rather than dooms them. If Viktor's actions kept killing Jayce, the very boy he couldn't bear to not save each time, it would undermine these narrative choices. Yes, Viktor couldn't stand to live in a world where he never meets Jayce, so he ensures it keeps happening. But in that same breath, he couldn't bear to see a world where his actions continue to destroy Jayce and destroy Runeterra. His entire arc in s2 is born of his selfless desire to help humanity, help individual people. He would not lightly destroy entire worlds. That's his original grief multiplied a thousandfold, and narratively it would lessen the impact of the one, true loss he did suffer, his own Jayce. It wouldn't make sense for him to be alright with damning other timelines to suffer the same catastrophic tragedy that created him. I mean, maybe I'm delusional here, but is that not the entire point? Because that's what I took away when I watched the show.
As I said, I love discussions about mage Viktor, as there's a lot to play with. All I wish is that the fandom at large would not just assume or accept the Mage Viktor Dooms Every Timeline idea as canon, when there is nothing in the actual canon that confirms this. Maybe people need to just, go back and rewatch the actual episode, to recall how mage Viktor is presented to us, and what it's implied we're supposed to take away from his scenes, and separate that from the layers of headcanon the fandom has constructed.
#arcane#mage viktor#jayvik#viktor arcane#meta#this is like. along the same vein as 'jayce knew all along viktor would go to the hexgates during the final battle'#like that is a headcanon. we don't know that!!#the actual scene could be read either way and i know when i watched it that's not how i interpreted it#and i doubt it's how most casual viewers intrepeted it#fandom gets so deep into itself after a show ends that you really have to just. rewatch the show to recalibrate yourself lol#for all that people bicker about mage viktor yall dont include him in your fics v much lol#anyway i love mage viktor and he's probably my favorite version of viktor <3#i just wish fandom stopped insisting on a monolithic view of canon#and the idea that mage viktor fucked over hundreds of timelines to collect data points like a scientist is just#rubs me the wrong way as a scientist lol#you do realize that scientists don't treat everything in life like a science experiment right?#it's about inquisitiveness and curiosity. not 'i will approach this emotional thing from a cold and calculating standpoint'#viktor has never been cold and calculating. he's consistently driven by emotion in the show jfc please rewatch canon#i just think that people would benefit from a surface level reading once in a while lol#sometimes fandom digs so far into the minutiae that they forget the overarching takeaways that the story presents#assuming there must be some hidden meaning that sometimes (like this) is decided to be the literal opposite of what's presented#rewatch mage viktor's scenes and ask yourself if 'deranged destroyer of worlds' is really what the show was trying to have you take away#then again there seems to be a faction of this fandom that for some absurd reason thinks jayce was forced to stay and die with viktor#so i guess media illiteracy can't be helped for some lmao#i post these things on here because my twitter posts get literally 10 views thanks algorithm#so the chunk of the fandom i really want to see this will not#but i must speak my truth

waiting in a boring ass bus station and seeing that u posted more fucked up mad scientist wuxian oh life is so fucking good 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
I'm glad I can bring you joy and hope in your dreadful time in the bus station. Just for you today, we're flipping the perspectives and checking on all the other sects!!! I know what you're thinking. "Four. Four what the fuck is happening in Lotus Pier." And boy oh boy. Let's look at things with the bigger picture - Wei Wuxian has never stepped into Lotus Pier, so there's no comparison for Jiang Cheng to be belittled by (don't worry!! He still has his inferiority complex and mummy issues because like...Madam Yu is his fucking mother. She's a monster even without Wei Wuxian to point at). Jiang Fengmian actually shows affection for his son, but he's also a bit more distant than he would be in canon; he grieves the death of his friend and his friend's wife too much to think about anything else. Jiang Yanli is in an arranged marriage still, because as much as he would like to deck Jin Zixuan all the time, Madam Yu would quite literally have his head for such a crime. At least he has his dogs.
Okay and then the invasion of Lotus Pier happens. Wen Zhuliu? Dead. Wang Lingjiao? Dead. Wen Chao? Desperate to prove to his father that he's a good son, that he's better than Wei Wuxian ever could be (because Wen Ruohan is mourning his little scientist). This leads to a highly uncoordinated attack mixed with the fact that Madam Yu is not facing off against Wen Zhuliu which was ultimately her undoing in canon, means that they can pretty easily beat back the attempted invasion. There's like an issue with this though, and that's the fact that I cannot picture a Madam Yu who would not make snide, insulting comments about Wei Wuxian's heritage. Wei Wuxian in this AU would literally not fucking take it. May I remind you about how, after learning about his parents dead by the Wens' hands, he literally tore a man apart? With his bare hands? Sorry bbgs, girlboss is not making it. (Also Jiang Cheng needs the trauma for character building.)
Meanwhile, the first moment that Lan Wangji makes it back from the cave of the Xuanwu of Slaughter and he's found out that his brother isn't dead, and that they have started rebuilding the Cloud Recesses, and that everything is going to be okay, he spills everything. He sits down with Lan Xichen and tells him everything that happened in the cave, the way Wei Wuxian took a blow meant for Luo-guniang. How he, instead of abandoning them and just leaving on his sword, took charge of the situation with an injury and coordinated escape groups. How he almost died in order to save Lan Wangji from certain death, forcing this monster's jaws apart. How he was most certainly brainwashed by the Wen and yet still worked with Lan Wangji to kill the Xuanwu of Slaughter despite his distrust. He doesn't think that Wei Wuxian is genuinely bad, just very, very misguided ("I can fix him, gege....").
Lan Xichen of course takes his didi's words seriously and writes to Nie Mingjue about it, also asking after Nie Huaisang because "Wangji said he didn't come for the night hunt?" He receives a letter back, one that makes it very clear that Nie Mingjue wouldn't at all believe that there was anything redeemable about Wei Wuxian if it weren't for the fact that the same man had been the one to entirely engineer Nie Huaisang's escape. He would likely be tortured and/or dead by this point if it weren't for Wei Wuxian intervening. Even more than that, he's been corresponding with Huaisang, asking more about all these different sects and what they were like. Mingjue, whose world has always been a very clear black and white, does not know what to do with the idea of a Wen not actually being evil. Let alone multiple Wens, like Wei Wuxian's letters suggest. Lan Xichen is like "hmm...let's see where this goes, having Wei-gongzi on our side could be useful in this likely impending war."
Then Nie Huaisang gets the short letter about Wei Wuxian's death. It's like a shock to the system, the idea that Wen Ruohan would actually kill a boy so useful to his cause the moment he found out that the boy was learning more about the world around him. A teenager, discarded because he's no longer good enough to be perceived as useful. Nie Huaisang is honestly a mess because of it, having begun to see a friend in Wei Wuxian - he was friendly with the other gongzis, but it had always been so hard to connect with guys that were, at the end of the day, completely focused on fighting and brawling. Either that, or there was beef between the two sects (the Jin) or the gongzi his age was just terrifying (sorry, Wangji). Wei Wuxian had been someone who had been funny and related to him so well. Now he was dead.
Lan Wangji is sort of feeling out of sorts when he's told by Lan Xichen, because he feels like he's failed this sincere boy who helped and helped despite his preconceived notions of life. He should have done more, helped out more. If for anything, just because of the debt he owes Wei Wuxian for keeping him alive even when he himself was injured and just riddled with resentful energy. He literally clambered into the rot infested shell and attacked the Xuanwu from up close and personal because Wangji was too injured to do so himself. Lan Wangji had repaid that by not attempting to speak to the boy while knowing that one of his peers was doing that very thing, not asking Nie Huaisang what he was telling Wei Wuxian, or how Wei Wuxian was even doing, or anything. Now he was dead and it was too late to reach out for him.
Lan Wangji had failed Wei Wuxian before even trying to help him.

okay but the fact that we hear all about kaveh's life post-fall out with alhaitham, the fact he graduated, worked at construction firms and continued taking on others' burdens, had a hard time finding solo work because of how arts are perceived in sumeru, that he went to his mother's wedding in fontaine, that he took a vacation from work because he was stifled by the environment and felt he had lost motivation and worth as an artist, was determined to complete the palace of alcazarzaray at the cost of everything he owned just to have a tangible object of his efforts and view of art only for its outcome to further emaciate him, until he meets alhaitham for the first time in years, is understood at once, has no need to don a front as he does for everyone else in his life, is listened to, is challenged once more and reinvigorated in his perception of his ideals, is offered a second chance, a home, and accepts it, although he cannot comprehend why alhaitham would offer such a thing and yet not ask anything of relevant substance in return, other than rent
all of this, and we hear virtually nothing of alhaitham's life post-fall out with kaveh, besides his graduation and his taking on the job of the scribe. his character stories omit this part of his life whereas kaveh's is full of detail and emotion, mostly suffering. the first instance we see of alhaitham in this time is from kaveh's perspective when the two meet again in the tavern, and in this alhaitham endeavours to understand kaveh once more, before offering his house - the research centre previously allocated to the both of them for the success of their joint thesis before they fell apart - to kaveh.
we don't know why alhaitham moved out of his grandmother's house and into the research centre, why he renovated it from a research centre into a livable home, only that he did so after kaveh informed alhaitham through a third party that he was not in need of a house, nor do we know his thought processes and emotions in the years spent apart - the years that are carefully documented in kaveh's character stories. the image we are presented with is that of stasis; alhaitham pursues no other close friendships, he works as the scribe, owns a nice house within sumeru, is financially secure, and functions within, and carries out, his own ideals - is content with this way of life. in this, from alhaitham's perspective, there are no details necessary to give from this time
but in inviting kaveh to live with him, his character stories tell us that what he gains by doing so is the mirror of himself, both in personality and scholarly thinking, and in this, he is able to gain an enhanced view of the world, which otherwise would be limited. with kaveh being present in alhaitham's life, alhaitham believes that his vision is perfected, whereas it could not be before, with kaveh's absence. it is in this that we hear what alhaitham has been missing in his life, and ultimately, it is kaveh, not just as a scholar, but as a person
what is omitted from alhaitham's character stories is provided in kaveh's character stories; where we hear about kaveh's struggles, we don't hear about alhaitham's. perhaps this is because alhaitham did not struggle as kaveh did in terms of realising and achieving his ideals, but instead his struggles were in silence, recognising that his vision, and himself, had been compromised because he had rejected the ideals that served to enhance his own vision, that he had inadvertently rejected, and thus had been rejected by, kaveh.

Even criminal overlords fall down sometimes... good thing the Toppat Chief's Right Hand Lady and friends are there to make it better!
God, this took SO LONG. It's not the biggest comic I've ever done, or even the most complex (though it certainly wasn't easy), but getting all of the dialogue to fit was a challenge (I tend to write big and messy, as I'm sure most everyone was able to guess). If the dimensions of the panels seem odd, it's probably because of that.
Right Hand Man's standing over here like "is this really the guy that almost killed me?" Meanwhile, Reginald's more worried about the hat. As he should be; it's a very important hat! Ellie has the patience of a saint... or a mom friend.
How did Henry set the scooter on fire and only get a cut on his knee? It's Henry Stickmin; literally anything is possible. He's probably lost his scooter privileges for a while, though...
Charles isn't dead in this timeline, but I imagine Henry likens him to an angel in multiple ways (self-sacrificing, heroic, handsome... an angel!) He's is still displeased with Henry's choices in this timeline, of course, and Henry knows it. His one regret in life... (I've been reading too many Toppat Henry x Charles fics and comics lately... or maybe not enough?)
Anyway, come get some Toppat King ending food. Chapter one of The Beauty and His Right Hand Beast will be out this Monday... I just need to get started on it, heehee.

// Now that your attention is trapped in this post, let's discuss Cyberpunk mods for a bit. I assume it's no big secret that finding actually casual clothes, which are not refits/recolors of in-game items, is rather difficult. Same goes for finding clothes without extreme cuts.
Tumblr media
// As someone who struggles to dress up my characters with existing mods and has interest in balancing out available styles on the modding scene, I'm curious what kind of clothes is generally sought for in the community, especially those of you with characters not leaning into Y2K or ""goth girl"" (yeah, I know...) aesthetics.
Both Male & Fem V ideas are welcome. I create my own meshes from scratch and have full control over them for refits.
I'd be thankful for feedback in the replies: leave your thoughts and wishes there or in tags. If you'd prefer to be anonymous, message me through the ask box. Please, don't send me a DM here, it is bugged and I might not see it.

// Do NOT suggest: — Skimpy clothing [there's a shit ton of it, come on] — Ankle boots [5-item collection is in the works] — Driving gloves [in the works] — Long evening gloves [in the works] — Underwear [simple no-lace duo is in the works]

#lol this was taken in january of 2023 so over two years old now#around the time i took this photo a friend actually asked me to count and i came up with just under 800 fiction books at that point#i've thinned out some of these but replaced them with others... and then some#i also have about three of these same bookcases full of books at my parents' house whoops#there's also two shorter bookcases that are out of view of the photo#but those are for my textbooks/nonfiction/professional resources etc so they aren't as exciting#but also the book collection has outgrown the shelving availability again#(don't even worry about the piles of books on my nightstand and in the living room)#i need to get an updated pic since it's my favorite room in my house#this doesn't even show my full current collection of tlt special editions/art/merch#unfortunately the office is a bit of a disaster zone right now#it's sort of become a box/storage room and holding area for stuff i'm decluttering/reselling#so a lot of the shelves are stacked rather haphazardly two rows deep#i think i might be able to just barely fit one more bookcase along that one wall so that'll help whenever i get around to it#(they're just the cheapest particle board bookcases that target/walmart/wherever carries)#but at least i have this very satisfying photo to remember the golden days by#(and in case you were wondering - they're shelved alphabetically by author's last name and then chronologically by series per author)#ask#maliceious

i like obidei but only in a very specific way. basically i just think the idea of deidara seeing obito not just unmasked but having dropped the tobi persona entirely (whether obito intended him to see or not), being really into him, and absolutely fucking hating it would be really funny. like fucking fuming about the fact that obito is an uchiha who has been playing him for a fool this entire time with the whole tobi persona but he’s also actually hot as fuck with this cool mature vibe. just utterly seething
