Why is Wandasho's little unit symbol not orange? All of the other unit symbols are their unit colors, why is WxS being singled out instead of, like, Niigo as the "outcast" group? This clown unit continues to baffle me.

If you're about to launch a creative project, remember this:
We tend to overrate what we can do in a day, and underrate what we can do in a year.
Keep at it.

acting like you’re some woke person just because you advocate for middle aged women to be lifeless on the internet is not the flex you think it is 💀
Tumblr media
You seem rather passionate about this so I’m going to indulge your ask to let you know three things:
Writing is a hobby that gets better with age, life experience, and practice. The best pieces of writing objectively come from older people and I’m not talking about fanfiction. I mean books and literature. I’m serious—go look at some of the most well known pieces of literature and then search up the ages of their authors during the years they were published. You’ll find the older writers tend to bust out bangers and this principle is very much applicable to fics too by default. Also writing fanfic is not “lifeless” lol. Some of you act like writing fanfic is juvenile compared to a novel and it’s rly not that different from writing an original piece of fiction. Sure, sometimes fanfic can be a little less on the conventional side in terms of technique. But genuinely the concept of putting characters into situations to create a plot is literally the main thing on both sides here and if you think writing fanfic is silly, it makes 0 sense to hold creative writing to some pedestal. Some fanfic writers demonstrate AMAZING original world building skills especially if they write au’s that diverge from canon and I think you are out of your mind if you think this hobby is not oftentimes an impressive one rather than “lifeless”
Being 30+ doesn’t automatically mean you must/do have a family and kids but I’ll still indulge that point and say you can easily balance a work and personal life while also having a hobby. I know middle aged men who dedicate more time to hobbies like hunting and fishing than middle aged women do with writing. One actually requires you to leave your house and family behind and the other you can do from the comfort of your home and tend to your family should you need to. I think the nature of your opinion only stems from a misogynistic view on aging women but that’s another can of worms
People don’t stop consuming and enjoying things as soon as they hit their third decade of living. If that’s your viewpoint on life, you’re going to set yourself up for a very miserable time once you hit 30. If you’re already 30+ then you’re a hypocrite by default by even being here in the first place lol. Also, life is literally so fucking silly okay? You wake up, work, pay taxes, and try to get by with what is usually an underpaid paycheck. Just fucking enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs okay? If a 30 year old likes anime, then that is literally so god damn harmless I cannot stress enough how unimportant that is. There are 30 year olds out there doing heinous things in their free time and you choose to be bothered by someone who happens to produce an assortment of words from time to time. Please reevaluate your priorities
All things aside I cannot convince you that being 30+ and enjoying fandom and fanfic is not weird unless you really just realize that it’s not weird. Idk how old you are but I assume you’re younger than 30 because no 30 year old would be on fandom tumblr and then bash others for it. But regardless, just because you think something is weird doesn’t mean it’s bad. It is literally the most harmless thing I do not understand why you would care so much, just move on???? When you think someone dresses weird in real life do you go point it out to them??? No you think it to yourself and move tf on—and if you would voice it to them then you are literally a rude individual. Plain and simple. Rude and disrespectful and I would suggest you again, reevaluate. And it’s the same principle here. You just move on. If you seriously cannot be convinced that this is normal and just absolutely are dead set on believing that 30+ year olds who enjoy fandom are weird, fine. But just keep it to yourself it is the bare minimum you can do to be a decent person I cannot stress this enough to you
And one more thing. The people who are writing the mangas and animes you enjoy so much are middle aged. Older than 30/40. Grown people who might even have families and kids. Creativity has no age limit it is just a small joy that people indulge in at any age and it’s a very nice thing when they share it for others to enjoy, as well. Please just enjoy someone’s art and live a little. I promise you will be much happier and peaceful if you just read a good fic without worrying about the age of whoever produced it. I guarantee you a lot of the BEST fics you’ll read will come from the older writers they are literally doing you a favor if you happen to enjoy reading fanfic. Why bite the hand that feeds you?

If My Circuits Could Sing: A Sci-Fi Zine About Obligation is accepting submissions!
Hi everyone!
I've heard back from the last of the print shops I reached out to. I'm still ironing out specifics but I figure we've been too quiet, so it should be time to get things rolling.
(Not sure who we are? Check out our writeup here. )
For writing, we are looking for:
Stories in the neighborhood of 2000 words. Submissions over 3000 words are unlikely to be considered.
Poems no more than 4 pages.
We are not interested in nonfiction at this time.
For art, we are looking for:
Short comics in the neighborhood of five pages.
Art pieces that either stand on their own, whole page or half-page with backgrounds, or that text can be wrapped around
Feel free to send over many small pieces in addition to or instead of larger ones!
For all submissions:
Please include a list of content warnings if your submission contains any subjects that may be intense, uncomfortable, or triggering. For example, bone breaking, body horror, blood, gore, etc.
How to submit:
For text, we'll be using Google Docs for its extensive cooperative editing features. The simplest thing for us would be for you to simply Share a Google doc with the zine email; [email protected] . If that's impossible, we'll accept submissions as plaintext (in the body of the email), or PDF. In both cases your work will be copied into a Google Doc which will be shared with your email.
For art, simply email your submissions as a standard image file(s), or a link to a photohosting site like Imgur. Again, that address is: [email protected]
We will give each submission one editing pass, more for clarity than anything else. Any of our suggestions can be declined if you feel that they harm the integrity of the work, or otherwise don't fit with your vision. Whether we accept all submissions or only some will depend entirely on the number of submissions.
I am extremely excited to see your work! Please let us know in the server or to our email if you have any questions!
Submissions will be open until: February 1 2024.
Join our Discord server here!

As a general case it's common for people to think/say/believe that the thing they find a lot of joy in expressing themselves through is, like, a necessary component of an actualized human life and that anyone who says the thing does nothing for them are either a) lying or deluded or b) soulless gray husks with only a coincidental resemblance to real people with actual passion and emotion
People talking like this doesn't make the ways they express themselves bad but it does make me want to avoid them like the plague out of spite.

Brain Curd #417
Brain Curds are barely-edited fiction, poetry, or just about anything else - drafted in a day or less. Anybody hiring?
Quick rant time: I hate this.
By ‘this’, of course, I could mean many things. For example, everything. But let’s back up a moment and talk about some things I do like.
I enjoy computers because there is always a provably right way to accomplish a task. There are specific commands that the computer allows me to use, and with those, I am able to build new ones. If it doesn’t work, there is a reason, no matter how hard it is to find.
I enjoy writing because there is no provably wrong way to communicate. All I need for a reading of fiction to be valid - including fiction I’ve written myself - is to present the barest of evidence for my interpretation. And if I don’t care what other people think of it, I don’t even need that. Esteemed authors have written entire books, packed with dialogue, that don’t even have quotation marks. And some nonzero quantity of people ate that shit up.
My problem with job applications - applications in general, really - has always been that they feature neither of these two qualities and offer less feedback than any compiler or internet heckler. I read a job description, see that I fit the qualifications, apply, and then nothing happens. I do not find out why I didn’t get the job.
But that’s just the base case. Most jobs, I don’t qualify at all. After all, an entry level job should require ten years of enterprise-level experience, shouldn’t it? But as I have been told, I am supposed to apply to these anyway. And the logic is sound, because I have gotten just as many interviews with this tactic as I did with the previous (zero).
The benefit of this approach is that, in an ideal world where you submit your resume and move on, you can at least get numbers on your side. You won’t know what you’re applying for, but you’re applying to a heck of a lot so you might finally catch something. It’s like fishing with a net instead of a line, except the dolphins you’re drowning are just your own will to live.
Unfortunately, you can’t do that, because every company wants you to fill out their application that’s different from everyone else’s. Resume? Never heard of her. List every job you’ve ever had and why you stopped working there - make sure your citations are in Chicago format. Record a video of yourself explaining why you love our company you’ve never heard of. What is the difference between a duck?
And even if you go to all that trouble, they still never tell you why you didn’t get the job, or sometimes even send an email saying you didn’t get the job. No interview, no phone call, no telegraph, no pony express, and no late night ‘u up?’ text. Why’s that? Because nobody is hiring and they fired the person who ran the Indeed page.
This is a problem for everyone, I understand, but when you tear your hair out after two applications in a day like I do, it really starts to cut into your un-gnawed pencil budget for the week. No wonder I prefer doing something that actually feels productive, Mom. Now let me get back to customizing my Fedora install and writing poetry no one reads.

the problem with tangle is she was written as an s tier character out of the gate, so you can’t really give her a character arc. she’s at the peak. you have to make her worse in order to make her better
#talking about how tangle physically - emotionally - intelligently - was great in all those categories#strong & agile & able to keep up with sonic’s friends; fight badniks already; even tackle super badniks or at least help to#emotionally? T&W. issue 24 in an awful situation & reassuring sonic who is in the same situation.#<- trying to check in on tails while he’s worried about sonic being infected#<- reassuring belle that her father would be proud of her#intelligently? she’s obviously not written as a genius like eggman or tails but thats not what i mean#she is sharp - finding creative applications of her tail; ie slingshotting sonic & blaze up; forming a harness to help carry whisper#-during the metal overlord arc; using the surprise factor of her tail to steal whisper’s mask in T&W 1; the simple ploy she tries with-#-orbot & cubot during her adventure with belle that ends up giving them info. she’s resourceful!#so the problem is if your character is already great at all these things. but you want to develop them as a character. AND not-#-overshadow every other character. you need to downgrade them first#so collapsing tangle to comic relief + physical brawler + happy-go-lucky & sacrificing her depth lets you make more problems#but the problem that causes is: you pretty obviously had to downgrade her for that. so its not satisfying when the arc concludes & -#-she learns. it’s like the multiple times in ben 10 where ben learns ‘oh saving people isnt for fame its for good’#OS with animo. UA. OV’s hypnomoth episode. he relearns this because if ben already knows this he’s simply a Good Hero#and that’s not as interesting as making him bad at things and wondering if he pulls through.
