What a DDoS Attack Looks Like
Tumblr media
I'm working on my senior design project rn. We have datasets (I don't remember where they're from specifically) of real DDoS attacks that we're using in it.
Using the Google chart javascript api I plotted all the TCP sessions in the sample dataset. Yellow dots are benign and red are malicious. Cool as shit to look at so I thought some people would like to see it.

At the moment of this posting, the Internet Archive and Wayback Machine are under a DDoS attack
And I’m wondering- where’s the outcry? Where are the people ready to denounce the hackers who would target such a bastion of freedom of speech? Does anyone care?
Why would people leap to defend those in a foreign country, but not lend one scintilla of care to an organization devoted to free speech on the Internet?

It was literally 6 people keeping ao3 afloat??? Volunteers are amazing!
Our Systems volunteers have written up a great behind-the-scenes look at last year’s DDoS attacks against the Archive. Why not check it out and show them some love?

Y’all, the Archive admins are made up of VOLUNTEERS. And they have been working for 12-13 HOURS STRAIGHT.
I better not hear any complaints when donation period comes around. OR ELSE.

EDIT: How do we show appreciation to the volunteers? For me reading these deep dives on OTW issues u guys apparently it's been said multiple times that one of their objective statements is to have paid staff for ao3 and there's a surplus of donations they haven't used up or the other community solutions that needs to address. For those more financially literate feel free to analyze, snipe me or add to the discussion etc. linked here by deepa. They’re cool and these yearly analysis they did aint no joke.

But Seriously what can we do for these volunteers? The probable burn out from this entire fiasco would be no joke. @ao3org

#why do toothbrushes need to be smart#what’s wrong with the vibrate ones
According to a recent report published by the Aargauer Zeitung (h/t Golem.de), around three million smart toothbrushes have been infected by hackers and enslaved into botnets.
The most cyberpunk thing on your dash today.

“Common Website Security Threats and How to Protect Your Business”
In today's digital age, websites have become an integral part of conducting business. They are used to attract customers, showcase products or services, and facilitate transactions. However, since people rely more on websites, there is an increase in website security concerns, which can jeopardize critical data, disrupt operations, and harm a company's brand. In this blog, we will look at some typical website security issues and offer practical solutions to secure your company. Remember that protecting your website is critical for preserving client trust and guaranteeing the success of your online presence.
1. Malware Infections:
Malware is malicious software designed to infiltrate and harm computer systems. Viruses, ransomware, and spyware are examples of common categories. Follow these procedures to safeguard your website against malware infections:
Maintain the software and plugins on your website.
Install a trustworthy security plugin or firewall to scan for and prevent harmful activity.
Using online security tools, monitor your website for vulnerabilities and malware on a regular basis.
Educate your employees on the need for safe browsing habits and the perils of downloading unfamiliar files.
2. DDoS Attacks:
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks aim to overwhelm a website's server by flooding it with traffic, making the website inaccessible to legitimate users.
Use the following procedures to protect your company from DDoS attacks:
Use a web hosting service that includes DDoS protection.
Use rate-limiting methods to detect and prevent excessive traffic.
To disperse traffic and mitigate assaults, consider employing a Content Delivery Network (CDN).
3. SQL Injection:
SQL Injection: SQL injection is a web security flaw that allows attackers to manipulate the database of a website by injecting malicious SQL queries. To avoid SQL injection attacks, use these steps:
Use parameterized queries or prepared statements in your code to sanitize user input.
Update and patch your database management system on a regular basis.
Use a web application firewall (WAF) to detect and prevent SQL injection attempts.
4. Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) :
XSS attacks occur when malicious scripts are injected into web pages that users view, allowing attackers to steal sensitive information or take control of the website. Protect your company from XSS attacks:
Implement input validation and output encoding to prevent malicious scripts from running.
Control which scripts can run on your website by using security headers such as Content Security Policy (CSP).
Review and sanitize user-generated content, such as comments and form inputs, on a regular basis.
5. Phishing Attacks:
Phishing attacks entail deceiving people into disclosing sensitive information, such as passwords or credit card information, by impersonating a trustworthy institution. Protect your company and consumers from phishing attacks:
Teach your staff how to identify and report phishing attempts.
To prevent email spoofing, use email authentication methods such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
To increase client trust, display visible security indications such as SSL certificates and trust seals on your website.
When it comes to website security, proactive measures are essential. Protect your business from these common threats and ensure the safety of your online presence. Partner with Shariwaa, a leading web security provider, to safeguard your website from cyber threats. Contact us today to learn more about our comprehensive security solutions.

We all know about the DDOS attacks on AO3 as it is still down. So it is very important we talk about the KOSA(Kids Online Safety Act) that is going to hit the floor soon. Because if that act goes through this could very much be the new reality of not only AO3 but online fandom spaces within the next year. The point of this act is to limit queer media and to eliminate online queer spaces.
Let me stress, the politicians are lying to you. Democrats and Republicans are lobbying for this. It is not pro trans rights and it is not pro lgbtq rights. This is very reminiscent of the Restrict Act! Politicians can SUE websites for having QEEER CONTENT. This act will not protect kids, it will further separate and marginalize the queer community!
If this bill goes through AO3, Wattpad, TikTok, Tumblr, and Twitter will be limited and fanfiction websites could be wiped out all together. If you are apart of fandom spaces pay attention and ACT! Call and email your senators! AND SIGN THE BELOW PETITIONS!
Reblog this! Send the links to people who aren’t on Tumblr! If you care about fandom, fandom spaces, your ships, your blorbos, fanfiction writers’ works, freedom to create, etc. Spread this!
If you aren’t American you can still sign/send some of these!

Hey guys! Since ao3 is down and we're all craving fics, would anybody want to join a shared drive folder and upload their downloaded ao3 fics to it with folders divided by fandoms/ships/gen etc for anyone to read?
But please, anyone who uses it has to go give kudos and thank the writers in the comments after the attacks are over, we can get through this!

the funniest thing that could happen when ao3 is fixed is everyone going feral for their fics all at once and getting the site to crash again
