Tips For First Time DM's

Have a Session 0 where you explain to them the vibe of the game and build your characters together. Make sure everyone has built a character that will want to engage with the story. Hash out any ground rules you'd like to have.

Being a DM is like any performance - Things will go wrong, but only you know how things are meant to go. No one else will realise when things have gone off track, so don't panic (it happens to every DM) . Just roll with it, I'm my experience things get back on track eventually.

You're meant to be having fun too! (I'm serious) If you're not, then that's a good time to check in with your players and problem solve how y'all can contribute to a great table

Everyone at the table is a team (unless you've clearly set out it's DM vs players in session 0, which may be a simpler dynamic for your first campaign). With this in mind, everyone should be contributing to things running smoothly.

Getting into the role play side of things will probably not happen immediately. It's hard to focus on being your character while you're still learning the ropes. This is fine! You'll all find your rhythm as you work together to build the world

Combat will probably be unbalanced for a bit. The Challenge Rating system is a useful guide but how things turn out will definitely depend on your players. It'll take you a bit to adjust to your tables' dynamics.

If you don't want PCs to die, have a plan (no I'm serious). Have a TPK plan as well. It doesn't have to be elaborate, could be a local healer or a character's god. Many new DMs accidentally kill characters. Tell your players about this plan so they're not afraid to take risks; Learn and experiment!

Encourage feedback. At the end of the day, these are your friends. You should all feel comfortable communicating with each other if things are going wrong or you think they could be better. Encourage feedback on things that are going well also! Sometimes it feels like you're DMing into the void, so knowing they're enjoying sessions is very useful.

Ultimately it's your table. You can prepare and look at heaps of advice online but it's up to you what you use. You'll discover your own unique style of running things - don't fight it to fit into what you think a DM "should be". There's not one right answer. There's you, your table, and how you all enjoy playing!

The gods need to play Dungeons and Dragons with the demigods at least one time. Percy, Grover and Annabeth work together tirelessly to create the most elaborate plot line for the Campaign that they could possibly think up and co-host as the Dungeon Masters.

Maybe they act upon this plan on the Winter Solstice as their 'Presentation'. They won't say what their presentation is about, only that the gods need to play DnD and they will understand. But really... now the Celestial Trio have become the fates. Now the demigods get to throw quests at the gods.

Things get highly unstable on Olympus during that Campaign.

Nobody will ever recover.

DnD probably gets banned.

something that is also kind of annoying and maybe its my audhd or some other form of social or psychiatric imbalance but like. i get majorly hung up on wanting to be thorough and making sure i respond to everything during a convo. so if i was messaging someone and we were sending nice girthy paragraphs and then i end up busy later and my bandwidth is stretched too thin to write back fully when i return, but they send me 1-2 short sentences on a different topic later on, i won’t write back to the new sentences even if it would be easier and i want to, because im like “well wait i didn’t respond to the long stuff first so i can’t respond to this one yet” like even if i want to answer the new ones?? bc i don’t want to seem like i was ignoring the other messages?? but i just end up nerfing myself even more cuz now im cockblocking myself from the convo until i have exactly the bandwidth necessary to respond to the older longer messages AND the shorter new ones too?? why am i like this dkfjsjdkdf

{prooobably a bad time to post this considering its pretty late over here, and i think its also probably fair to assume that its pretty late on your end to. buuut i gotta do it now or ill forget.

so! as you've seen prior, we've had occasional interactions with "duplicates" of members of the party- yknow, the fact that theres at least three siffrins, and that one king, and another bonnie hanging around. amongst, ah.... other things.

but, issue is, we as a group have kiiind of- intentionally or not- created a specific universe/timeline for ourselves. one with "official" individuals standing in for each character. which is a long way of saying that we can't really have our characters interact directly- as in face-to-face- if they're a character who has a pre-claimed "role".

long story short: we probably won't be able to have "duplicates" in the central story since it would disrupt it and what we have planned. i promise its no hard feelings, it would just get. Really Messy. otherwise.

that being saiiiiid, we still wanna interact with ya'll, regardless of whether your playing your oc, an alternate timeline version of pre-exisiting character, or something else entirely! (King set up the Anon-Bird thing for that exact reason, but it obviously has it's faults.)

i cannot speak for the others at this time- i think it's sort of a mixed bag of indecision and we need to discuss it more. but i, personally, would love to interact face-to-face. i did say i was welcoming you all with open arms, after all! (it's really our bad for not being a little clearer....)

so, with that noted, my personal solution is to create the concept of "out of universe" interaction. this way we can still have our characters hang out, and it won't disrupt the main timeline. generally speaking, isabeau will still be in whatever physical (and mental) state he is during that point in the timeline, but there won't be the weight of it disrupting what's actually going on for him and getting everything wildly off track.

i reiterate that this isn't a hard rule. this won't necessarily carry across blogs, and, while i dont want to promise anything, if we collectively choose to continue on after the main story is finished, i'll probably loosen it up considerably. because i think the concept having multiples of the same character running around a still recovering vaugarde for no discernible reason is hilarious. and i have a fun idea for connecting prior OoU interactions to make them a little more "canon"- ish.

but, y'know, we all still need to discuss this properly.

shit this got long. okay. UM. UH.

TL;DR: we can't currently "canonically" have our characters interact directly if they're "duplicates" of characters in the main timeline. that being said, we still wanna rp with those folks, so i personally will be making the decision to open up "out of universe" interaction with people so we can still interact without creating a disruption. the others might not do the same, though.

think it might be a good idea to take things very slow for a bit (it's only three weeks more work until I have three weeks off, yay!).

I'll decorate the flat tomorrow and will probably otherwise do a super lazy saturday to reset from this week, maybe that will bring my creativity back...

There’s a post on my dash right now that I don’t want to reblog because I don’t want to be fighty or mean, but it’s telling people to go to the doctor if they have heavy flow or bad menstrual cramps, and boy HOWDY do I have some bad news about how that’s gonna go.

I’m not gonna say no one ever gets their issues solved, and not every doctor will treat you badly or tell you it’s normal. But we just don’t know very much about uterus-havin’ in allopathic medicine and if you don’t respond to a few different kinds of hormone therapy/birth control and you’re reluctant to have your uterus removed, you’re kind of shit out of luck.

And don’t get me wrong, if you’re bleeding out every month and incapacitated by cramps, absolutely go to a doctor. Try birth control! Try a vitamin screening panel! Try all the low hanging fruit solutions before you give up, for sure!

Just don’t be surprised when there isn’t a solution. It’s not your doctor’s fault - it’s the way the medical and scientific research system has ignored “women’s” health issues for hundreds of years.

It’s a sad thing to say but unless you get lucky, you’re probably gonna do better with trial and error and Reddit than in a doctor’s office.
