One day you're 13 watching sanders sides about that damn white bear experiment, and the next you're 19 and being told in your 300 psych class that, um actually, conscious memory suppression (EX: Don't think Apple! vs Think Apple) is affective in forgetting memories. So you ask your professor (the department head) about the white bear experiment and how it relates to the current research article we're discussing, and he goes, " Oh, actually I don't understand the White Bear experiment function, since all current literature disproves it (HUH) and no one uses the self reporting of a bell or clicker anymore (i agree, too freaky). I'm going to email the author of this current article and see if he can connect it to ironic process theory! "
...guess who is rewatching WTIT & DWIT tonight with a very different perspective of Remus and created a folder called "White Bear and TCAQ Thesis Idea". This Neuroscience Major!!

*ORANGE SIDE THEORY SANDER SIDES*
GUYS!!!
I was rewatching some Sander Sides when about 21 minutes into ‘Dealing with Intrusive Thoughts’. Logan was trying to stop Virgil from thinking Thomas is lying. Logan states, “I can assure you he’s not. You’re just para-“ and then cuts himself off. Now this could be him just trying to be nicer because of Virgil’s reaction. But what if there was another reason?
Is it possible it has more to do with the orange side?
What if the orange side is Paranoia? Not only did Virgil seem pretty shaken up by Logan starting to call him that. But it also shocked Patton. Which only japans when it comes to a dark side, like how he reacted to Janus and Remus.
I’m sure other people have mentioned this and stated this theory but I found it really interesting.
And honestly it would make sense if Paranoia was the last side. It’s labeled at the ‘irrational and persistent feeling that people are ‘out to get you’ and feeling angry or betrayed’ which wouldn’t be to far off from the hints we’ve been given.
With Logan feeling more left out it could make sense. He feels that everyone wants to get rid of him. Which is causing him to feel angry at times.
Anyways those are my thoughts let me know yours :)
(Sorry if this doesn’t make sense 🥲)

the duke's song but it's candy store from heathers
I barely had to edit this to make it fit, but I did add a couple clips from other SS vids for certain lines. also would recommend watching with headphones as the audio is pretty quiet

"Logan in DwIT as something my band director said. To Remus: you are not the problem. To Virgil and Patton: you two are the problem. Love you!"

Damn I wish I remembered the context of this.

One thing I've always thought was really ironic was the horrible, prolonged intrusive thoughts I got from the video that was meant to help people with intrusive thoughts feel heard and learn to cope. The intrusive thoughts I got from DWIT are among my worst, most vivid, and most prolonged. And in order to refresh my mind on the advice (because it was legitimately a good conversation even tho Thomas doesn't even experience ITs) I had to learn exactly where the triggers were through trial and error and skip around them. It's kinda sad because in past SaSi videos, sensitive topics like anxiety were addressed without causing people anxiety attacks. Episodes like the two-parters were commended for how well they portrayed panic attacks without actually triggering the viewer's panic attacks. And yet they couldn't do that with DWIT.
I guess that's why I really don't like Remus as a character. He badly triggers the worst of my intrusive thoughts issues like almost nothing else can. And it bothers me when people talk about him so affectionately. There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking him as a character for the exact opposite reason (you see your intrusive thoughts in him, etc). That's just how my brain fires, and everyone's fires differently. But I just never really see people talk about this and it bothers me.

what if Remus revealed his name so early on because he thought if he didn't everyone would just call him "bad creativity" or "Roman's evil twin", and he didn't want another reminder of how much Thomas and the other sides hated him?

Theory: If Logan wants to make a POINT, his only dramatic reference is Roman, and so he copies what Roman does to make his case. For instance, this! exit! No one was listening to him! So he left in the most dramatic way possible! 😂
Also ‘I’m Audi 5000’ was slang in the 90s (I think) to say you’re making a fast exit because apparently the gas and the brake in that car were so close together that you could accidentally hit the gas if you were going to brake and speed up like a mf lmao

party people with intrusive thoughts get the panic that thomas had abt being a bad person.
okay. but actually. let’s talk about the 41 minutes and 17 seconds of pure perfect writing that “dealing with intrusive thoughts” (or for the purposes of this post i’ve dubbed it dwit) truly is.
(seriously could write a video essay about this, but for the purposes of now i’ll let this remain a tumblr post)
tw: i talk about intrusive thoughts a lot, but there’s nothing graphic in here.
dwit is like a beacon of hope for anyone who was struggled with intrusive thoughts. i saw on instagram a quote that stated “it’s hard to trust yourself when you have unwanted intrusive thoughts.” and i feel like thomas takes that and shoves it right back in our faces with this video.
through many episodes of sander sides there is a question of morality. “is thomas a good person?” is a constant question and debate. the idea of having intrusive thoughts leads to a spiral for both patton and thomas as well as worrying from virgil.
the debate is continued when it is revealed through flashbacks that thomas dreamt of killing his brother. Remus (a character representing both thomas’ intrusive thoughts and the dark side of his creativity) leads to patton worrying that thomas’ morality is at stake because of this dream.
what makes this episode in particular so perfectly written is that logan is able to pin point the doubt and showcase to both thomas and the veiwers that these thoughts are just thoughts as long as you don’t act on them. it’s not a fault of thomas for having these thoughts, in fact many people struggle with them, seeing them as horrible things. many people who struggle with intrusive thoughts (including me) have wondered or thought that they are a bad person for experiencing them.
while both virgil and patton work to fear remus, logan acts as an anchor of acceptance and logan is able to bring out logic while also still showing empathy. this episode is able to function as a source of character development for logan.
the video is a perfect way for thomas to show that these thoughts don’t make you this horrible person because they aren’t things you want to think about. intrusive thoughts are horrible and as logan points out, as long as they continue to scare you, they are not a threat.
this brings me back to this quote i started with. the idea of trusting yourself when you have these intrusive thoughts can be scary. but logan is able to show both thomas and the audience that you only create that distrust if you let the fear of them take over.
in those 41 minutes and 17 seconds thomas sanders with the help of his character logan is able to express that while it’s okay to be afraid of intrusive thoughts you cannot let them dictate your moral standing.
idk i’m just yapping. this is a good ass episode. thanks logan for being the best. i’m gonna go take a nap now.

No because I've rewatched dealing with intrusive thoughts and svs and the Hogwarts episode recently like I think less than a month ago but I was trying to draw yesterday and put on the Hogwarts episode and I'll legitimately could not focus on just drawing I was just sitting there watching sanders sides quoting it like quoting almost the entire episode and I can't tell if it's because Sanders sides is just that quotable or if it's because I've watched specifically those episodes a lot like a lot of times I feel like the second option is more likely and also more concerning
