i dusted off my old instapaper account and imported my pocket backlog, and they immediately offered me a three month trial of the premium plan
so that's nice
#original#it used to be my go-to because i could send stuff to kindle which for a while was vital#i don't know if i'll keep premium but it's a pretty serviceable pocket replacement#i already used up my readwise reader trial but it's too fucking expensive and also overkill#i managed to get shiori installed on the NAS but then couldn't figure out how to get my pocket stuff in there so i might uninstall it#i'm so fucking bad at doing docker stuff on the NAS it's unreal#every couple months i check in on pinepods and see if anyone's written a guide for dummies yet lol

trying to fucking START making a project in godot making feel like an idiot
all the documentation i found is for windows so all the pathing in the documentation is different from what im working with.
normally wouldnt be a problem except for the fact that paths are the things i have one of the hardest times understanding or intuiting ever since i was a child and as far as Ive been able to find there isnt any way to like, have godot show me where i need to be or any way to change the path
trying to figure this out feels like one of those stress nightmares where youre trying to type or read something important but all the letters keep changing everytime you look or blink but in real life
#my musings#vent#literally was on the verge of crying just trying to figure of the file manager docker#where the fuck does it want me to put my files??????#ive looked fucking everywhere#it doesnt fucking exist#i now have a headache and almost had a meltdown#i know that i just need to make it over this hurdke and i can actually get started#but im gonna need to wait for my sister to wake up so she can help me understand#shes good at explaining atuff in a way i get#is this part of the disability that ive convinced myself that i dont actually have and that my body and mind are just gaslighting me into#thinking my problems matter and are real and arent just personal failings?

If you are doing much DevOps and working with terraform code, Ansible, or other IaC, having a secure place to store secrets so your code doesn’t have those secrets hard coded is a great way to make sure secrets and passwords are not stored in plain text. If you are looking to spin up Hashicorp Vault in an easy way, spinning it up in Docker is a great way to get up and running quickly. Let’s look…

Kill Containers and remove unused images from Docker Correctly
In this article, we shall discuss how to destroy, that is “Kill Containers and remove unused images from Docker Correctly”. We will be doing this over Portainer and Container Manager. Containers and images that are no longer in use can create clutter, making it harder to manage Docker environments. By removing them, you can streamline the system, keeping only essential resources running. Please…

i have never learned what Terraform is but at this point I'm a bit scared to ask
#i know it's in the infra-as-code bucket.#but why do people need this whole-ass-thing to what...manage Docker deployments and K8s?#can it not be done with just a python script?

you don't get it... nobody gets it...
Docker is definitely one of those pieces of software that causes the specific problems that it's allegedly trying to solve

Pinned Post*
Layover Linux is my hobby project, where I'm building a packaging ecosystem from first principles and making a distro out of it. It's going slow thanks to a full time job (and... other reasons), but the design is solid, so I suppose if I plug away at this long enough, I'll eventually have something I can dogfood in my own life, for everything from gaming to web services to low-power "Linux but no package manager" devices.
Layover is the package manager at the heart of Layover Linux. It's designed around hermetic builds, atomically replacing the running system, cross compilation, and swearing at the Rust compiler. It's happy to run entirely in single-user mode on other distros, and is based around configuration, not mutation.
We all deserve reproducible builds. We all deserve configuration-based operating systems. We all deserve the simple safety of atomic updates. And gosh darn it, we deserve those things to be easy. I'm making the OS that I want to use, and I hope you'll want to use it too.
*if you want to get pinned and live in the PNW, I'm accepting DMs but have limited availability. Thanks 😊💜
Thanks to @docker-official for persuading me to pull the trigger on making an official blog. Much love to @jennihurtz, the supreme and shining jewel in my life and the heart beating in twin with mine. I also owe @k-simplex thanks for her support, which has carried me a few times in the last couple years.

Man goes to the doctor. Says he's frustrated. Says his Python experience seems complicated and confusing. Says he feels there are too many environment and package management system options and he doesn't know what to do.
Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Just use Poetry + pyenv, which combines the benefits of conda, venv, pip, and virtualenv. But remember, after setting up your environment, you'll need to install build essentials, which aren't included out-of-the-box. So, upgrade pip, setuptools, and wheel immediately. Then, you'll want to manage your dependencies with a pyproject.toml file.
"Of course, Poetry handles dependencies, but you may need to adjust your PATH and activate pyenv every time you start a new session. And don't forget about locking your versions to avoid conflicts! And for data science, you might still need conda for some specific packages.
"Also, make sure to use pipx for installing CLI tools globally, but isolate them from your project's environment. And if you're deploying, Dockerize your app to ensure consistency across different machines. Just be cautious about Docker’s compatibility with M1 chips.
"Oh, and when working with Jupyter Notebooks, remember to install ipykernel within your virtual environment to register your kernel. But for automated testing, you should...

On this day, 5 July 1888, 1,400 women and girls working at the Bryant & May match factory in east London walked out on strike in solidarity with a group of workers who had been sacked. Journalist Annie Besant had published an article in her newspaper, The Link, about the conditions in the factory, stating: "Born in slums, driven to work while still children, undersized because under-fed, oppressed because helpless, flung aside as soon as worked out, who cares if they die or go on to the streets provided only that Bryant & May shareholders get their 23 per cent and Mr. Theodore Bryant can erect statues and buy parks?… Girls are used to carry boxes on their heads until the hair is rubbed off and the young heads are bald at fifteen years of age?" To try to salvage their reputation, the company tried to force their employees to sign a statement praising their working conditions. A small group of women refused, and were fired. The remaining workers at the plant immediately walked out in their support. They quickly formed a union and chose Besant as their leader. Management quickly offered to reinstate the worker, but the strikers refused to return to work, demanding in addition the abolition of a system of fines for things like talking or going to the toilet without permission. Right-wing newspapers like the Times attacked the women, falsely claiming they were "egged on to strike by irresponsible advisers… pests of the modern industrialised world". But the workers held out for three weeks until eventually Bryant & May agreed both to reinstatement and the abolition of fines. The dispute helped spur a huge wave of self-organisation of non-union workers in Britain, particularly amongst east London dockers who walked out themselves the following year. Attention Splatoon Artists!!
I'm happy to announce that my Splatoon brushes (v.2) bundle for Krita is available for download!!! (rbs are appreciated<3)
This bundle includes new and reworked brushes (from the previous version), focused on imitating the official art style of the Splatoon series' artworks.
Here's a brief rundown of the brushes:
Download Link:
How to install them:
Download the .bundle file from the Google Drive link, and place it wherever you want on your computer

2. Open Krita and go to Settings > Manage Resource Libraries

3. On the Manage Resource Libraries window, click the Import button and select the .bundle file on the file explorer

4. Once you finish the last step, you should see the bundle is now on your Manage Resource Libraries window

5. Now, restart Krita and open a new file. The brushes should be on your Brush Presets docker!! (If you can't find them for whatever reason, just search "Splatoon" on the docker and the brushes should appear.)

"But Matcha, how good are they??" Well, that obviously depends on your drawing/painting skills and familiarity with the brushes, but here are some comparisons:
On both of these I traced the official artworks and tried my best to replicate the paintings, using only my brushes. You can decide if these are to your liking or not :p
Anyway, thank you for the attention and good luck making beautiful art <3
Ps: If you do use them, don't be afraid to tag me! I'd love to see you art :D

Oh my. This whole ongoing mess really is crap hilarious.
The ruling is the latest twist in a battle between Tesla and labour groups in Sweden. Union IF Metall put mechanics on strike on Oct. 27, refusing to service Tesla's cars because the company would not accept collective bargaining.
Members of other unions, including dockworkers, electricians and cleaners have since taken action in sympathy.
Tesla has a policy of not signing collective bargaining agreements and says its employees have as good, or better, terms than those demanded by IF Metall. The union says it is vital to the Swedish labour market model that all companies have collective agreements...
Seko, the union that organised the PostNord workers, told Reuters an easy solution for Tesla was to sign the collective bargaining agreement with IF Metall.
So yeah, the agency issuing the licence plates needs to find some way of getting them to Tesla, without any obligation on anyone else to actually deliver them.
It also sounds remarkably like someone at the Transport Agency was being purposely obstructive there too, beyond normal-level dealing with bureaucracies. They also probably did NOT particularly want to piss off the postal workers in question, by trying to circumvent their existing shipping contract while said postal workers were refusing to deliver to Tesla.
A little more background:
So yeah, good luck getting anything done when basically every other industry is refusing to deal with your business, or even deliver its mail. You would think that whoever was actually making certain decisions at Tesla would have learned from the similar Toys 'R' Us debacle in the mid-'90s.
My guess is that they were at least hoping that nearly 30 more years of neoliberal influence might have weakened organized labor enough for them to get away with pulling this shit now. Either that, or 'just' contravening the Being Bloody Stupid Act of 1581. And then freaking Elon did an Elon, and responded to any criticism by doubling down on some terrible choices.
I can only hope that, if this was the line of thinking? That someone was sorely mistaken, and severely underestimated how well the whole Nordic Model has managed to hold up.

Ariel of Rodion lived a simple life working as a docker on one of Rodions smallest space docks. She lived in a small apartment with her two closest friends Orion and Dion. Their life was hard, yet the comfort of having eachother was enough to make them happy. Ariel was cheerful and smart and kind, and she dared to dream of a life outside of her home city where she could travel around the world and see it's beauty. But it would forever be a dream, because her pick up truck alt mode defined her as a labourer, not a traveller.
Her life started to change when one day Orion had told her about his plan to move to Iacon to become an archivist, with the help of Senator Shockwave. Though Dion took the news poorly, Ariel had high hopes for her friend. She had dreamed so much of a life away from Rodion, why would she deny it become a reality for him? She knew Orion was destined for more beyond the sad life of a docker. She and Dion bid their farewells to Orion when he left for the biggest city in all of Cybertron.
Life passed slowly without Orion in their trio, but Ariel and Dion still managed. They sent long letters back and forth between them and their friend for thousands of years. Until the letters got shorter and shorter, and the time between them got longer and longer. Security in the city got tighter, energon became more scarce, the dock workers schedule got more crammed and over worked, and soon Ariel realised she hadn't received a letter from Orion in decades.
Still, she couldn't stop. Work came first. She was a docker, and loading and unloading ships was all she could do. The thought of running away to Iacon to find her oldest friend, especially after hearing rumours of a violent uprising, was an impossible goal. Ariel and Dion could only pray to Primus below that Orion was alright.
Years passed by, and only during a day Ariel's workload was lighter did disaster struck. It was an ambush, a raid by the revolutionaries she had only believed were rumours had come to their dock. And then horror rained upon her in the form of gunfire, screaming, fire. The police force had pong since stepped onto the scene, but Ariel couldn't even look at who was winning in the brutal fight as she and Dion tried to run away. Explosions shook the ground and sky, and fire surrounded the pair at every turn. Ariel and Dion knew every nook and crany of the dock since their first week alive, yet they became lost under the maze of falling buildings and exploding ship debris.
A part of a building exploded and the falling debris struck down on Dion, crushing him beneath their weight. Ariel screamed, but her cries was cut short by another explosion, right next to her arm. She was thrown backwards by the blast, yet grit her teeth and crawled to the mass of rubble Dion was buried under, subbing as she tried to dig him out. A haunting sound stopped her in her vain efforts, and the last thing Ariel ever saw was the barrel of a large canon cracking to life, and the dark figure of the man who held it to her face.
Ariel was dead before the sound of the blast echoed through the air.
Death wasn't something Ariel had truly grasped, even in her final moments. Cybertronians had such long lifespans and durability, the idea they would one day close their eyes and not open them anymore was foreign to most of them. It had been millenia since the ban on intergalactic travel, and even longer since the restriction on civial wars, making the millions in the military caste suddenly without purpose. Witnessing the dead was a luxury only afforded to doctors and gladiators, jobs intertwined with death so closely.
Still, even in death Ariel could not make sense of it. Death seemed to be a series of flashing lights, darkness, a depressing sob that sounded so familiar (it sounded like something, someone she should have known) and silence.
Then, the flashing lights came back, in the form of a floating sphere, and a voice broke the silence: "This isn't the end for you, not yet. Fate has something different planned. Good luck."
The flashing sphere took over, filling nothing with light, and suddenly Ariel felt heavier, taller, stronger-
She gasped, and Elita One's eyes shot open.
#ugh h i haven't written seriously in so long#sorry for any grammer mistakes its 1 am and i dont respect the english language#but ariel oooooooooojjjjjjj#girl....#its only gonna get worse from now on!!!#transformers hyperlink#hermes art#ariel#elita one#remember kids. death is only temporary
