Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.

REMEMBERING PULSE NIGHTCLUB - COMMUNITY COALITION AGAINST ONEPULSE

The only prominent post going around about the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016 is my own, and is unfortunately cursed to the fate of receiving reblogs of an inaccurate version. So, 8 years later, I'm doing the right thing and making a new post to properly honor the victims and their families.

Will it gain the traction it needs? Probably not. But I'm not as... distant, about today, as I have been over the years. Because let's face it... This hits close to home for me. I said this in my original posting, too:
As someone who lives relatively near Orlando, I remember this day so vividly and I still feel a lot of pain for the victims even five years later.
I remember biting back tears in my living room because I wasn't out of the closet, and couldn't let my family know just how much this hurt me. I remember breaking down that night while scrolling the headlines, watching as the number of fatalities kept climbing. I remember staring at the button on Facebook asking me if I was safe.
And to this day, even with those involved and responsible gone... I still do not feel safe as a queer man in this state or in this country.
More importantly, though, it's important to highlight the community impacted by it, and the way onePULSE and its founder (Barbara Poma), the city of Orlando, and the State of Florida have exploited and continue to exploit the deaths of these individuals.
Information from here on out will be taken from the Community Coalition Agaisnt a Pulse Museum's official website, which can be found at the following link: [ LINK ]
The Community Coalition Against a Pulse Museum (CCAPM) is a group of surviving victims, family members of victims, activists, and scholars who have banded together to fight against the onePULSE Foundation's privatized memorial and museum complex. Our position is that money raised in the name of the mass shooting should go to the continued care of survivors. A public memorial park that does not seek to capitalize on the mass shooting in any way is the only option for a just memorial.
In addition, we seek justice for mass shooting victims by exposing the history and scope of unpermitted renovations and code violations at Pulse, which impaired the escape and rescue of shooting victims. We believe that Pulse owners Rosario Poma and Barbara Poma should be held accountable for these violations, rather than continuing to profit from a tragedy that was exacerbated by their illegal business decisions. We also want to see the City of Orlando held accountable for their continued failure to enforce the law and bring the business into compliance.
So what are the prominent issues?
WE ARE AGAINST COMMODIFYING MASS MURDER
The onePULSE Foundation has placed a gift shop feet away from where 49 people were murdered on the site of the interim memorial. We firmly renounce putting any price tag on the murder of our loved ones. The proposed museum is also slated to have a gift shop and a price of admission.
WE ARE AGAINST TURNING A PUBLIC TRAGEDY INTO PRIVATE PROFITS
Pulse nightclub owner, Barbara Poma, refused to sell the property to the City of Orlando for a public memorial. Instead, she created the onePULSE Foundation and has taken an executive salary in her self-made position as CEO. Perks have also included national recognition, celebrity, political connections, and undeserved accolades as an LGBTQ+ ally.
WE ARE AGAINST TURNING A MASS SHOOTING INTO A TOURIST ATTRACTION
The onePULSE Foundation has received a $10 MILLION tourism development tax grant from Orange County for the building of a museum. The tax application shows how the proposed memorial/museum complex has been intended to increase tourism during the off-season. The corporate Board of Trustees also reflects the local tourism industry.
WE SUPPORT INVESTING IN THE CONTINUED CARE OF SURVIVORS
Money raised in the name of the mass shooting at Pulse is going to multi-million dollar buildings rather than the continued care of the people who were directly affected. Available services and organizations have not provided adequate care to survivors and the onePULSE Foundation has not stepped in to fill any gaps; focusing instead on cultural and "educational" programs, while ignoring the ongoing needs of survivors.
WE CALL OUT A CHANGING MISSION
For years, the onePULSE Foundation raised funds for community grants for victims' families and survivors. In 2019, "community grants" were removed from the organization's mission. According to the released 2018 990s, only $1k was spent on community grants. People have donated money to the organization thinking that they were helping survivors.
WE ACKNOWLEDGE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
onePULSE Foundation CEO Barbara Poma is currently being sued by survivors and victims' families as part of a security negligence lawsuit. This lawsuit also alleges the illegal transfer of the Pulse nightclub property which was transferred via quit claim deed in the months after the shooting to two other LLCs owned by Barbara and Rosario Poma. Funds raised by the non-profit are being invested in the Pulse property that the Poma's still own.
As of 2024, this case is still pending, with the latest service list being posted on the docket as of June 11. The case number is publicly available (2018-CA-006102-O) and is searchable via the Orange County Clerk of Courts Record Search.
WE AFFIRM A PUBLIC MEMORIAL PARK IS STILL POSSIBLE
Public memorial parks have been the overwhelming response to mass shootings around the country, including Aurora, Columbine, Las Vegas, and Newtown. Most have been built by volunteers, with no executive salaries. The OnePULSE Foundation's proposed museum attraction seeks to unnecessarily turn the shooting into a spectacle and requires merchandising the tragedy. Mass murder is not for sale!
WE CONTINUE TO EXPOSE UNPERMITTED RENOVATIONS AND CODE VIOLATIONS
Public records affirm that Pulse Nightclub was a death trap due to its unpermitted renovations and code violations. Documents show that these issues affected the both the escape and rescue of Pulse survivors on June 12, 2016. We continue to collect, document, and uncover these issues since the City of Orlando has still not released all relevant records to the public.
Survivors of the incident, as well as their families and those who have faced similar tragedy, have also signed an open letter [ LINK ] calling attention to these issues, provided documented evidence of the above claims [ LINK ], and have also been running a petition since 2019 to call attention to the matter:
Of course, it is important to note that the individuals mentioned (Barbara Poma, the Orlando City Council, etc.) are not the only ones involved in making this state an unsafe place for its queer community.
As noted in my original posting as well, the unsafe nature of this state runs through its government. The fight for our rights, our recognition, and our safety still continues. Here are some facts from the original post (dated June 12, 2021):
In June 2021, the Governor of Florida vetoed an "item-lined budget bill" - that legally provides mental health, counseling, and compensation directly towards victims of the June 2016 Pulse nightclub Orlando shooting.
While they cannot be enforced, sodomy laws still exist in Florida to this day. Every year, we are still criminalized by a technicality.
In many places, same-sex domestic partnerships are still not granted. It is only viable in approximately nine counties, thirty cities, and one town.
It took until 2016 for same-sex couples to be granted the same parental rights during in vitro fertilization and surrogacy as opposite-sex couples. Before then, the non-biological mother and father was not the child's legal parent nor guardian.
The state's "hate crime law" only accounts for sexual orientation, and does not protect victims who were attacked for their gender identity.
Anti-discrimination laws for sexual orientation and gender identity are not state-wide nor equally applicable within each county/town.
On June 1, 2021, Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis signed a bill to exclude transgender women from participating in sports designated for female students. This bill passed because of a last-minute legislative "procedural maneuver". The HRC is currently establishing a campaign to try and stop the law from going into effect (called "nullification") on midnight July 1.
Gay-panic and Trans-panic are still viable legal defenses, resulting in these abhorrent hate crimes to be decreased from murder to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Conversion therapy against minors is not banned state-wide, and is still legal within many areas of the state. In fact, in some areas, a ban on the practice is deemed "unenforceable".
And that is just the tip of the iceberg, because if you've been active in your advocacy for the community (or at the very least, following me for a decent period of time)... Then you know just how unsafe Florida has become. You know how, even under the Biden administration, people like Governor Ron DeSantis have gone unchallenged in their writing and enforcement of vile legislation. You know how this legislation has begun creeping its way up to the top, to the federal level, and remained unchallenged the whole way up.
Here are some more "fun facts" about just how much we must fight against in the wake of this tragedy:
States like Florida have eliminated 80% of all trans adult care (SB 254), adults can be thrown in jail for using the bathroom of their gender identity (SB 1674), and trans people with correct gender markers on their drivers licenses can be charged with fraud (Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles memo).
The State of Florida has had several travel advisories issued against it by local LGBTQ+ organizations (e.g., Equality Florida) and national organizations (e.g., Human Rights Campaign).
Likewise, many social media laws targeting "adult content and pornography" (HB 3) include sneaky, vague language that will very much target the existence of queer folk using the internet in this state.
More states within the United States are explicitly passing anti-trans legislation than not, and moreso now than ever [ source; dated June 4th ].
The time for relying on those above us is over. We MUST kill the plague of individualism and build community. If we don't support one another, nobody will. No amount of pinkwashing, placation, or sanitation will change that.
We are here. We are queer. We will never forget, and we cannot allow ourselves to.

Genevieve Rivera
Birthday: September 16th 1932
Age in ‘68: 36
Family:
Mother: Flossie (Kimball) 1882 White
Father: Wiley 1879 Mexican
Brother: Gilberto “Gilly” 1933 Mixed
From: Small town on the outskirts of Seattle, Washington.
Relationship to Family:
Genevieve is close to her parents. They had her very late in life and that impacted a lot of what things Genevieve did. A lot of her hobbies are ‘old people’ hobbies, She was never that active because her parents were too old to run around with her a lot. Her little brother, Gilberto, is less than a year younger than her. They are extremely close. They really only had each other while growing up because all of their cousins are way older than them. Her brother though, unlike her, got along well with others and made lots of friends. Overall, she gets along well with her family, and was sad about leaving them when she went to school.
Flossie (Mother):
Genevieve got along well with her mother. Flossie wanted nothing more than to have kids. She had Genevieve and her brother, very late in life but she intended to love them very much and be the best mom she could be. She always encouraged Genevieve to do her best in school and try to help Genevieve get out of her bubble. She’s the reason why Genevieve likes reading and writing so much. Flossie wrote all kinds of books, which she encouraged her daughter to do the same. Flossie published under a pen name, and hoped that maybe someday Genevieve would also write under the pen name. Genevieve and her mother talked about everything but she couldn’t figure out why her daughter seemed to prefer to bury herself in books rather than going out in the real world. Genevieve’s favorite book genre was and is romance. Her mother always worried that it was an obsession and that Genevieve cared too much about those books.
Wiley (Father):
Genevieve’s father can be a bit old-fashioned. He wanted a son first, and tried not to humor the idea of having a girl until Genevieve was here. He loved her immediately of course. Having her so late in life was nerve-racking but he was just glad to have been able to have her at all. He was just a regular ol’ business man that worked in an office place, 9 to 5. He tried to keep up with everything going on in his daughter and son’s life. He didn’t like Genevieve reading so much, so he tried to get her out into the world by taking family road trips to national parks for the weekend. They went on hikes and had picnics. He and his son tossed around a football, while Genevieve and her mom tried to plan out hikes. The trips always did half a job, since she always found a place to sit and nosedive into a book. At some point her father gave in and just let her read.
Gilberto (Brother):
Gilly and Genevieve are very close. They spent a lot of time together, best friends even. They strained a little in high school, when Genevieve started to have anxiety attacks when she had to leave her house. She went from going to all of her brother’s games, to virtually none at all. He tried his best to be supportive but couldn’t help but feel hurt at times. Unlike his sister, Gilly had friends and a girlfriend. He played sports year round. Before Genevieve’s anxiety got to its peak, she used to do stuff with the drama club, and he went to all of her plays, even when she wasn’t the lead. That didn’t last long though, but he went to anything she did to support her. They took Genevieve going to college rather hard. They called each other a lot and wrote letters.
Early Life:
Born to parents in their 50s.
Little brother was born.
Was encouraged to be creative.
Genevieve was a ‘miracle’ baby. Her mother and father had assumed that their chances of having children were over. Having a baby at their age is something they didn’t think could happen. Of course it was a high risk pregnancy but they had little Genevieve. She was showered with affection by her mother and father and aunts who had had kids of their own nearly thirty years ago.
Gilberto was born a little less than a year after Genevieve. Flossie and Wiley weren’t sure if they should try their luck, but they did and were surprised that Gilberto was able to happen. They knew that this was the last child they would have. Genevieve and Gilberto were raised extremely close and expected to get along. Flossie and Wiley couldn’t bear to think of their children not getting along.
Flossie always encouraged Genevieve and Gilly to be creative. She wanted them to be colorful and full of life. She read them books and played pretend with them. It was everything she wanted it to be and more. Genevieve looks back positively at her childhood. She remembers feeling safe and having a lot of fun. She wants to do something similar with her own kids.
Teen Years:
Spent most of her free time reading.
Confused feelings about a girl classmate.
Anxiety and Agoraphobia develop.
Decision to leave Washington for college.
Genevieve was a great student, she paid attention to her grades and excelled in areas where her brother struggled. She tried her best to help him when she could. She fell in love with the Renaissance period and read about it as much as possible, this ended up taking up a lot of her spare time. She practically lived at the library. She took classes that helped her learn Latin. When she wasn’t reading about the Renaissance, she was reading romance novels and plays.
Since she was spending so much time reading, she struggled with making friends. Not a lot of the other kids were interested in the Renaissance, and many didn’t want to practice Latin or Spanish with her. She had one classmate that she did get close to during this time. They were friends from Sophomore year to Junior year. This classmate loved hearing Genevieve talk about her interests and they liked the same authors. They were a part of the book club and the writing club. Genevieve just had trouble putting effort into maintaining a friendship outside of her interests. This was made even harder when she realized she had a crush on her. She tried talking to her mom about it without actually saying anything but the only one she could 100% confide in was her brother. Gilly told her that he didn’t care if she likes girls too, but he was pretty sure no one else would be okay with it. One day, Genevieve was confronted by the classmate who told her she felt that Genevieve never put any effort into their friendship. This happened sometime during their Sophomore year. They’d continue to have a strained friendship, until the middle of their Junior year.
Sometime before the start of her Sophomore year, Genevieve’s anxiety got to the point where she was having full blown panic attacks. The first time was at a dinner event for her father’s work. When they walked into the banquet hall, she felt as if everyone was watching her, she tried to tell Flossie and Wiley that she wasn’t feeling good but they were busy socializing. Gilly tried to get her to calm down and drink water, but before they knew it, she had fainted after having a breathing fit. Her parents couldn’t understand why she had that reaction, she has always been shy but they didn’t think that she would react in that way. Throughout the rest of the summer she seemed to have trouble going out, even skipping out on one of her favorite things to do, which is go to the park where a bunch of people put on plays. It’s not the biggest event, but the morning of, Genevieve burst into tears at the thought of having to go. On the first day of school, Genevieve didn’t make it out the front door before she had another fit. After that, leaving the house was a chore. This will be an on-going problem.
After graduating high school, Genevieve decided that she needed to leave Washington. She ended up going to the University of California, Los Angeles. (UCLA). Here she started to get her degree in Psychology. She wanted to be a therapist so she could help others that have similar ‘issues’ that she does. It was very hard for her to leave Washington and be away from her family. But she knew that if she didn’t, she would’ve gotten worse. California was a very scary place, too many people and a lot seemed to always be going on.
Young Adult Years:
College was similar to high school.
Became a therapist.
Started dating Connor Aldridge.
Marriage.
Dealing with her husband being away.
College was not very exciting. She excelled but she didn’t really have a social life. There was one guy that was into her but they didn’t really date or anything, she just crushed on him mostly. Her anxiety popped up on occasion but she tried her best to work around it. Overall she thought college was boring and was glad when she graduated.
Genevieve went on to begin working as a therapist. She loved helping people and being there as a support for them. It was hard sometimes to manage work and her own mental health problems but she tried. Sometimes she felt like she was being a hypocrite, she’d tell her clients one thing and do the exact opposite herself. She started seeing a therapist at this time to help her with her uneasy feelings about work and her obvious personal issues. This was not an easy task for her, as she found dealing with her emotions to be too troublesome but still, she tried to better herself for her clients at the very least.
Somewhere along the way, she met Connor Aldridge. She had no idea that he was such a celebrated CIA officer. He told her that he worked for the government, and against her best judgment she continued talking to him and getting to know him. She felt like there was something off about him though, and kept him at arm's length. She’s not really sure why she agreed to date him but he was her first boyfriend, and first everything. He seemed to be ‘somewhat’ understanding of her anxiety and tried to work around it. She’s not a dumb woman though, and Connor came with several red flags. He had the tendency to lovebomb and would sometimes be absolutely awful to her. Whenever he did this, she pushed him away some, and put distance between them. Their relationship was no way ideal, but both seemed to really love the other.
Sometime in ‘58 the two decided to get married after dating for two years. Genevieve was more than happy with the idea of getting married to Connor, even if their relationship was rocky at times. At this point, they had a system figured out and they seemed to be mostly good. Since Genevieve has always been obsessed with romance novels, she wanted her wedding to make her feel like a princess, special. Connor was surprisingly more involved with the wedding planning than she had thought he would have been. Their wedding was perfect for them.
Not long after getting married, Genevieve decided to take some time off work as she ended up getting pregnant pretty quickly but she knew that one day she would absolutely be going back to work. Connor wasn’t ecstatic at the idea of having his wife work, growing up his father worked while his mother stayed home, and he had assumed his wife would do the same. But he eventually came around.
Future and Beyond:
She and her husband moved back to Washington not long after her son, Connor Jr. was born.
In ‘59 she and Connor had another child. A little girl named Audrey.
Connor tries to shift his work around so he can be around more, but sometime in the early 60’s, Connor is sent to Vietnam for work.
In ‘63, she went back to working full time. She converts a back room into an office so she can have clients come to her house. Her agoraphobia seems to come back some when Connor first leaves, but she works through it with her own therapist.
Sometime in ‘69, she finds out Connor is dead. She doesn’t know the details but an old coworker of Connor's told her. She knows there’s more to it but doesn’t push. She struggles with being a widow at 37. She relapses into her agoraphobia.
Her brother has to step in and help a lot until she is able to pull herself together.
It takes Genevieve a long time to put herself out there again romantically. She never officially leaves Connor. They stay legally married.
When Genevieve is 40, CJ and Audrey sit her down and tell her that she needs to move on. CJ is 15 and Audrey is 14. They tell her that their father wouldn’t want her to be miserable. With their blessing, it’s a tinier bit easier for her to put herself back on the market.
When she’s 45, she meets a woman that she gets extremely close to. The woman is a single mother of a 17 year old son. Genevieve and the woman spend a lot of time together, and once Audrey and the woman’s son goes off to college, the woman and Genevieve move in together.
In ‘80, it became clear that Genevieve and the woman were romantically involved. None of the kids care, they just wanted their moms to be happy.

Cine: Cuatro lunas (2014)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

#MiércolesDeMigrantes, De Tulum a Juárez
