Iran launches drones at Israel
As tensions escalate in the Middle East, reports emerge of Iran launching a barrage of drones towards Israel, further intensifying the volatile situation in the region. The incident has triggered widespread concern and condemnation from global leaders, raising fears of a potential escalation in hostilities.
The drone attack represents a dangerous escalation in Iran's ongoing confrontations with Israel and its allies. Such actions not only threaten the security and stability of the region but also undermine efforts for peaceful resolution and dialogue.
In response to the attack, Israel is likely to deploy its advanced defence systems and may retaliate, raising the specter of further violence and instability. The international community must urgently engage to de-escalate tensions and prevent a dangerous spiral of conflict.
Efforts to address the root causes of the tensions between Iran and Israel, including regional rivalries and geopolitical ambitions, remain essential for long-term peace and stability. Diplomatic channels must be utilised to find peaceful solutions to the underlying issues driving these conflicts.
As the situation continues to unfold, it is imperative for all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue over confrontation. The consequences of further escalation are grave, with the potential to destabilize the entire region and inflict untold suffering on innocent civilians.

My feelings on generative ai are complicated and mostly relate to it as a labor rights issue. And I won't lie I don't, like, *like* it, but its corny as fuck when people start going on about how art (famously one of the hardest things to define and a topic of argument for as long as people have been calling things art) is only art because of "human soul" and "divine spark" like okay. All you've accomplished there is showing me that your politics are based on vibes.
I think it's 100% okay for individual sites to discourage posting of AI images (this seems difficult to hold as a rule, though, and i sure don't want to have to submit psds or numerous wips for every image i upload) but encouraging tightening of or heightened enforcement of copyright law will not save you and will only benefit major corporations. Idk its complicated. I guess im just wary of basing my political stances on my gut moral reactions
#environmental concerns are also massively overstated and if youre going to get mad about the environmental impact of one image that cost as#much energy as like a minute of overwatch#you have bigger concerns to follow through on. like the waste of energy on globalized food shipping#lbr it probably costs more energy to run your computer and tablet for the hours required to draw. that line of reasoning just#does not hold water for me as a consistent belief#ftr this is as someone who 100% believes in the human soul and a lot of woowoo stuff. i just make a concentrated attempt to avoid#basing my politics on it

damn they had to try soooo hard to make erik the villain again for plot purposes. like, I'm sorry, in what world would he find it justified to kill the underdog to save the many? especially when that person is raven, who he spent the entire first film trying to assure that she doesn't need to change, the world does? like, his line about how it would've saved their future is so out of character to me, especially when his childhood was spent in a camp being told that exact rhetoric, that some people needed to die so the greater race could take over. he believes in killing the fascists that oppressed them, not in murdering fellow mutants for the 'greater good', regardless of any logical sense it could make. that's my take on days of future past at least, though I haven't finished my rewatch yet
#also why is charles' method of convincing raven not to kill trask just telling her that it'll send her down a dark path of killing#he knows that message doesnt work on her and it's also not even the main concern here#the main concern is what they literally said like 10 seconds before#when hank pointed out that killing him at a global event like that would endanger all mutants and probably bring on the war against them#like I love these characters but the script in this film is so full of contradictions#xmen#x men#erik lensherr#marvel

trying to make teachers' (global) complaints abt kids theyre supposed to be teaching about "generational politics" and saying stuff like "people always complain about the young generation" is so dismissive and ridiculous. atp yall are being purposefully obtuse. these kids cant read. they cant write. they cant think critically. teachers GLOBALLY are begging parents to care, to no avail. kids dont respect their teachers, they dont respect their schoolwork, they dont respect their education, theyre severely behind across the board. to try and write that entire problem off as "complaining about the young generation" is so dismissive i have no words. obviously its the fault of the kids' parents but we are looking at an entire generation of people who are graduating high school with no skills. these people are joining society and dont know how to think. yall should be furious and instead youre trying to write it off as "hating on gen alpha". please get over yourselves
#i saw a post on here a month or so ago and i ignored it then even tho i RLY disagreed w it bc i figured it was probably made in ignorance#but in the past month i have gotten angrier and angrier abt this topic#to the point that if u try and come at me w any mention of 'generational politics' i will slap u across the mouth#i have never rly been into intergenerational competition bc its a distraction from real issues#but this isnt abt complaining abt a generation for no reason#that 'brainrot' we all laugh about is causing kids to genuinely behave brainlessly. its not funny. its terrifying#why are we just sitting here making jokes about it and laughing it off and then accusing teachers of nonsense#why do ppl not care abt this#teachers are trying to tell us smth and i see so many ppl ignoring them and dismissing them and making these stupid cynical jokes#an entire generation of ppl are going to be joining the workforce (GLOBALLY!!! NOT A LOCALIZED PROBLEM!!!)#having gotten by on lowered standards. these ppl will be doctors. they will be politicians. they will be in our society#this is so gd terrifying. i talk abt this and think abt this way more than i do abt the recent us election even.#i feel like im going insane. most of the talk ive seen on here has been dismissing these concerns and not treating them seriously.#im prolly going to delete this honestly but i wanted to rant abt it for a second#delete later

Hello again!
Based on this post ( which was absolutely fantastic), I have another question.
Do you ever see ownership changing? If so, is there anyone who you wish would take the charge?
Thank you once again for the lovely reply. I hope you have a lovely day. Go Canucks!
i don't see it changing and honestly? i don't want it to change.
the thing about the aquilinis, the thing about the majority of vancouver media, the commentators, the analysts - they're all from vancouver. most people involved in the team are vancouverites. there's something about the team's importance to the community in vancouver, how engrained it is in the fabric of the city, that's hard to grasp if you don't grow up with it or immerse yourself in it.
is that to say that no non-vancouverite can be a canucks fan? no! do non vancouverites have amazing canucks takes and opinions every day? sure do! but the people in charge, the people with microphones on sportsnet, the people who get paid the big bucks to write in publications like the province and the athletic and tsn and sportsnet. they are all vancouverites, because if there's something vancouver craves, and vancouver loves to embrace, its one of our own.
all that to say, despite aquilini's many, many flaws, no i don't see ownership changing. and i'd prefer him in the drivers seat than some faceless corporation where the canucks are the last concern on their mind. its nice to know, that despite aquilini's faults, he cares and though he cares about the money more, he cares about the team, the city, the fans and the community as well.
#hope this answers the question!!#its so complicated its a love hate relationship#i dont want him to be replaced i just want him to wake up! thats all!#much rather have an eccentric local multi-millionaire than someone like fenway sports group#who would probably be more concerned with their other more revenue rich ventures in global sports leagues than with the nhl#come back to my inbox anytime :]] always welcome here!#asks!

i need u to post more of your opinions bc everything you’ve posted recently has had me nodding my head. like what u said about those tiktoks people make about people’s profiles on dating apps and the surveillance state and how whiteness is the standard in a lot of self insert fanfic/fanart or just fandom in general to the point that people don’t notice how they box brown and black people out of participating. i’ve been thinking a lot about stuff like this recently and it’s kinda consuming me. like i really hate how racism is still so prevalent in fandom. the other day this fanartist i liked (not anime) deactivated bc people asked her to draw nonwhite and not skinny characters and she went on a colorist crash out bc she only wanted to draw her characters with paper white skin which then opened the doors for her followers to be racist. then “her sister” posted her ai generated apology that uses her bad mental health as an excuse while people became even more racist. like it makes me want to tear my hair out
SHJSDKD i’m happy to hear you like my annoyed rambling posts and i feel you, the rage is extremely consuming. not even joking, for both of our sakes, we have to remember to breathe and count the blessings around us bc it really is so easy to be mad at everything all the time always 😭😭 sometimes i believe in the benefit of the doubt, as in someone who isn’t black/brown and/or darkskin might be used to the way the world presents content, particularly content surrounding love and entertainment, and might have inadvertently been taught to mimic that isms so deeply engrained in it, but you can always tell by their response to being correct, and a colorist crash out and ai apology is absolutely crazy work omfg
#anonymous#i say this knowing i’m still mad all the time at everything but. i am getting better at mitigating the stress w things i Do enjoy#my ramble this week is that i love videos where people are like ‘i enjoy doing x and it’s my love language. so i did x for my partner’#and i really do like seeing that kinda content and i used to see more of it#but when i did see it the comments were always to the point of ‘lol and what does your boyfriend do for you?’ etc etc etc#which. i understand the general broad sentiment there—men rarely ever are in public spaces performing (labor in particular)—for their partne#and even when they do it’s a bit eh.#and i get that critical lens#but for the most part i think it was very clear that those (mostly) women were like. this is something i would do anyway/do for all the#people i love/how i show i care. which i thjnk is like the point of it all man#that’s love that’s community that’s a relationship#BUT i find it funny how now that narrative is shifting to more#‘here’s me cooking for my boyfriend after he had a 16h shift as a stay at home girlfriend’#or ‘my boyfriend is flying back cross country for work so i took off my job early to surprise him with dinner’#which can still be a genuine ‘this is me showing love for my person’#but also has a sort of inisiduous trad wifism woven into the wording of it now#and i know that’s the case bc the comments now are not in critique of the man and his alleged lack of reciprocal performance for his partner#instead everyone Likes the content when it’s presented this way almost like it ‘should’ be presented as#‘here i am as a woman doing x task for my man’ instead of ‘here i am as a person showing love to someone who i consider my equal’#which is a really sinister undertone and overal social shift esp when you factor in the…. everything happening in american and wider global#politics#but also in fashion in makeup in film/media#this call for traditionalism as Good as a mask for racism/misogyny/bigotry#Instead of tradition as honor acceptance and a ground to grow on#is really concerning. but anyway did we all try the chips i thought the chips were great

Night Key (1937)
"Now, listen, Steve. Twenty years ago you robbed me of the patent rights of the system that you're now using. Perhaps there was some excuse for that: because it gave you wealth, success, position, all the things that tempt one man to rob another. But now that you have everything and I have nothing, what possible reason is there for you to do this to me again?"
#night key#lloyd corrigan#1937#boris karloff#tristram tupper#jack moffitt#william a. pierce#warren hull#jean rogers#alan baxter#hobart cavanaugh#samuel s. hinds#david oliver#ward bond#frank reicher#edwin maxwell#george cleveland#george humbert#charles c. wilson#light hearted karloff vehicle which doesn't really deserve the sci fi label it's been given; yes‚ BK is an inventor of slightly fantastical#gadgets‚ but mostly this film is concerned with big business skullduggery with a side of organised crime. Karloff‚ as he often did‚ is#playing older than he was but he's very good and highly sympathetic as the doddery old prof. there's lots of good performances here‚ from#Jean Rogers' charming daughter to Warren Hull's romantic interest (much less tiresome than the usual role fillers in these movies) and#special mention to Hobart C as a delightfully seedy smalltime crook who attaches himself to BK like a stray dog. the only dud note is#Alan Baxter's weirdly monotone turn as the big bad‚ lacking any of the threat the character needs. the ending is twee and silly and there's#some (understandably) shaky fx work but this is genuinely a very fun time and a pleasant change from the usual Karloff vehicle of the era#one jarring moment: there's a very brief moment where a plot related news bulletin is heard on the radio‚ and as soon as it's finished the#news announcer begins to turn to the 'news from Spain' but the radio is switched off and the film moves on before we hear any more; this is#1937 remember‚ a moment of global tumult and thick in the gathering storm of the years to come but this is the only moment that the real#world is allowed to intrude into the charming and slighty silly world of eccentric inventors and sinister crooks

@pilferingapples it is more egregious because all these articles written by Global North academics are talking about decolonising the field of bioethics, they're talking about importance of listening to and recognising research in healthcare from Global South and yet, how do you expect this to happen in the unequal system that persists in academia?? I can easily find articles about bioethics from US, UK, EU, Australia etc. There is dearth of information from Global South and the ones that are published are behind a paywall. The least, the extreme bare minimum these journals can do is make it open access, waive the fees. But, no! All their arguments are for their research papers. No one actually wants to do what they are so eager to publish. And that kinda sucks, imo.
#replies#pilferingapples#i didn't mean to talk about this for so long#i'm frustrated i can't find the articles i need for my presentation tomorrow lolol#and this is my blog so there#also it gives the impression that healthcare is completely awful in Global South there are no guidelines and then there are recommendations#that everyone should just adopt the best practices from Global North and it may be so but it sure feels crummy that every time Global North#is imposing itself like this- oh we're educating the people in Global South on ethical considerations in healthcare#it feels paternalistic#Global North research in healthcare has most of the funding and power like obv#the power dynamics are extremely unequal#and the main concerns of Global South when it comes to bioethics may be different from Global North
