classic queer person coming out in car moment, a canon event i fear. i also love nick waking the fuck up for the pronoun announcement. he is locked in... but not locked in enough.

i really do love just. everyone's expressions. nick's little anxiety darkness, everyone else's stricken expression as they realize he may actually be sick in the car. i do fear nick laying on his man like that def made him sicker as someone whose been the drunk person in the back of a car if u dont sit ramrod straight with ur face turned to an open window? death. immediately. i feel like we really see the shame start rolling off nick in waves. he's usually the caretaker, now he is being taken care of... how does one cope with this change? they don't LMAO! at least,. nick kind of doesn't. i really do love that he bolted past charlie to get to the bathroom and then LOCKED the door behind him. it's such an interesting shift in their dynamic. these guys literally went from "tell me all your shit" on the paris trip to charlie locking nick out when he was mentally ill now to nick LITERALLY locking charlie out when he honestly kinda needs him most. i do love the parallel between darcy getting drunk pukey after nick came out as bi and now nick's gotten drunk pukey after darcy came out as nonbinary. again, they are the same character in different fonts and i really love that connection story wise.

i also like that when the tables are turned-- when nick is seriously hurting, charlie lowkey doesn't know what to fucking do! why would he? the last time nick sincerely was vulnerable with charlie like this, imo, was in the first FUCKING BOOK when he said he was confused. now. why the door lock? I have a few theories. 1) because puking is embarrassing and a sign of weakness nick cannot hide 2) because if charlie sees him as anything other than perfect, he might leave. what if he's disgusted, disappointed in him? what if he walks away just like his dad did and nick is left alone again. the thing is, we've seen so much growth from charlie and i feel like nick's inclination toward codependence really shines here, but in the same breath-- nick really doesn't have the same support system charlie does, and i feel like this was proven by the fact that tao and elle both bit his head off while he was incredibly drunk (yes, stressed from their own issues and i am empathetic toward that but would nick treat them the same way they treated him? no. -insert nick's 17th birthday episode here-) nick doesn't have a tori, or a tao on his side, or even an aled. all he seriously has is charlie and sometimes tara and darcy but they don't go to the same school, so their connection is limited in that way UGH. UGH. and finally

i'm never going to get over nick, who is usually taller beside charlie, larger, more protective, looking up at his boyfriend from the floor like an ashamed child afraid of the moment his boyfriend says: "i don't want to come here if you're just going to cry" possibly even expecting it, hence why he yelled at charlie to leave because at least then, nick has some control over it instead of being abandoned. and there is charlie, in his t-shirt, scars visible from nick's perspective, looking down at his boyfriend and perhaps seeing fully, for the first time, just how poorly nick's actually been doing over the past couple of months. however, after reading the last few chapters and rewatching season 2, i am wondering if nick overreacted to charlie being flirted with both because he was fucking plastered, but also bc in the show, we know that stephane remarried a woman nick hasn't even met. so i wonder if nick's brain is jumping to "if im not good enough, my boyfriend will leave me" to "my boyfriend will leave me and go to someone else if i'm not good enough." in that moment, hence why he asks Charlie if he's angry at him. (and i dont think charlie is once he realizes just how drunk nick is.) I also cANNOT stress enough how badly everyone but Tara kind of let Nick down in these past few chapters, why was she the only one telling him to sit down? i rlly hope wee see the friend group hash this out bc the fact that nick thinks they hate him makes my heart break for real

As someone who hadn't heard of Leeds University before Heartstopper, I wonder if they got/will get any increase in applicants as a result of Nick wanting to go there. Like people who identify with Nick and look at Leeds as an option because of him when they might not have otherwise.

okay so i have to talk about the juxtaposition between these two panels bc like holy fucking shit

like 1) the absolute growth of charlie actually leaning on his mum for help in this chapter is huge and i love how we see that character growth for jane and charlie!!! fucking 10/10 i love to see Jane Spring getting better as a character (bc some of y'all rlly loathe that woman even though she's just an average, emotionally constipated, anxious british mum but im not getting into all that rn) and 2) nick WALKING AWAY FROM HIS MOMMY WHEN HE USED TO GO TO HER ABOUT THINGS!!!! Also... Sarah with the b.o.b bob you know she's known for the bob!!!! also like... the way nick was just sick 30 minutes ago oh i know smthn is gonna happen at that damn rugby match. i will be unable to stfu if that happens guys i'm literally foaming at the mouth for nick to get injured i need my WHUMP. idk if alice will go that far but i dont want smthn world ending just like. a bonk. a bonk on his noggin !!! just a bonk please misses oseman i am on my hands and knees. why make boy play high impact sport if high impact doesn't knock him on his butt once in a while hmmm.... i just think these panels are so cutie butt. look at the happy spring family... also jane spring ipad adultisms my beloved. now let's get into the meet and potates of the rest-- I love that Tori actually gives Nick the benefit of the doubt here bc not many characters do in the comic. i enjoy that she was like; "yeha, nick's saviorism isn't good and it's lowkey gross but also here's how he was when you were in inpatient.", like... contextualizing some of Nick's behavior to Charlie and honestly-- the value of an outside perspective is huge when you're in a relationship. I do think it's funny that she was like: "Lol yeah, a normal couple would just break up, but you're Nick and Charlie so you won't." bc like... idk! if there was anytime that as a teenage couple, the boys would've broken up, it probably would've been right before Charlie went to inpatient when he was being really mean. That's just a shit ton of stress and they were only like 16 and 15 or 17 and 15/16 at the time? I can't remember. But Nick held out and I think the reason why Charlie hasn't considered breaking up as far as we know is bc Nick did not give up when things got hard and still isn't-- he's just anxious and not talking. But yeah, any other teenaged couple probably would've thrown in the towel. I do think the fact that they're queer and Charlie is Nick's first everything plays into the fact that they haven't considered the possibility. I can't see Nick initiating a breakup at this point in the story so lowkey... it would be on Charlie to make that decision. I don't think he will though! I'd just be shocked if Alice leaned into the novella rn bc tonally it just doesn't match with where the boys are currently. time for my fav panel

i love how whimsical this looks, and i also love-- and idk if this was on purpose, but Charlie being the one with his eyes open while Nick's are closed. Charlie understands the reality of their situation but Nick! Is kind of ostrich in the sand right now (imo: bc he doesn't know how to communicate why he's so anxious) i also adore that throughout this whole comic we really see how much charlie has grown physically. he's starting to look like a man!!!!! he got taller, his face is angled out, and ugh his hair rn is sooo fucking cute but he's also less shrunken in on himself and confident despite everything. i also love how in this panel, we see their size difference a bit more clearly. nick is only like two inches taller than charlie canonically (which makes charlie leaning up on his toes funny to me bc like??? what's the point ur mouth is RIGHT there brother...) but also like! Nick is so strong physically and has been the big strong one in dynamic and page for so long that it's easy to forget sometimes that he's just a kid too. like yeah!!! they're growing up together and that's hard as fuck but we know they're endgame so i cannot WAIT to see how they work things out. Furthermore, to my peeps with the patreon-- can someone PLEASE tell me when we circle back to the Tao and Elle fight thing??? I know these past few chapters have been very close together time wise but I need details!! Now, my predictions: I think Charlie's going to have his running in the rain/snow moment. I at least am begging for it. I think Nick is going to get injured at rugby and or get into a fight at rugby. I think David's going to point out to Sarah that Nick is NOT okay in a weird act of brotherly love bc the worst thing about being a sibling is when ur sibling is miserable and ur not the one who made them that way for once. I am crossing my fingers HOPING for a friend group fight at some point, bc I sincerely believe that what happened at the Green Dragon with everyone letting Nick walk away when he was that drunk was really fucked up and I think Charlie could really spearhead that conversation bc he's so aware of Nick's anxiety rn.
