Thinking about how the Seeds would be if there weren't brain worms telling them to Do Murder
Joseph Seed would do stuff like pay off the kids school lunches for the year and donate school supplies and scholarships and fund after school programs and shit bc being a poor kid was rough on him and he wants his community to have better than he did
John could get big into prisoner advocacy, taking cases pro bono and helping incarcerated people prepare for parole hearings and maybe even host AA and NA type meetings
Faith would totally get into local conservation efforts and would be in charge of the farmer's market and teach foraging classes and Tinctures 101 and has degrees in chemistry and botany and would eventually have some sort of holistic counseling type of business with patchouli and reiki
Jacob has the most wasted potential to do good imo. Hosting group therapy for veterans with PTSD and other issues, opening a shelter for the huge amount of veterans that end up on the streets, maybe a collective of volunteers to take calls and file paperwork that helps veterans do their complicated VA shit and find doctors that take Tricare without huge waiting lists and all the other issues that make medical care less accessible. And in the meantime he and Faith co-founded an animal shelter where instead of training animals to be Judges they are trained as therapy dogs for the veterans.
#au where blorbo isnt a war criminal#au where they're good people#lmao#imagining them as good people almost completelt erased their characters bc theyre so good at being bad#far cry 5#jacob seed#john seed#joseph seed#faith seed#fc5

How to not Kill your Crystals — Crystal Safety

How often have you looked up online and saw "to cleanse your crystals, use moonwater!", or "bury your crystals!"?
And how often did you hear of someone whose crystal ended up bleached, or entirely dissolved? (I'm looking at you, selenite)
Long post ahead but it's worth it, I promise
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Introduction
There are many methods of cleansing and charging crystals, but what beginner witches and pagans may not realize is that not every method is appropriate for every crystal.
While some methods are generally more harmless than others, if you don't know some of your crystal's basic properties, you might end up damaging them or even yourself!
So in this post I'll go through some general considerations and then list some cleansing & charging methods: the failproof, the ones you have to consider crystal safety, and the possibly harmful ones. Lastly, I'll list what you should NEVER do with your crystals.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
So what's wrong with Moonwater?
There is nothing wrong with moon or sun energy itself. What can be dangerous is Water and Sunlight. It's all about physics and chemistry.
Water
Some crystals dissolve or release toxic chemicals in water. Some examples are Selenite & and Desert Rose (which is a type of Selenite), and Hematite. That means you should never leave them near water, humidity, wash them, or put them inside any elixirs.
Sidenote on elixirs: if you are going to ingest any type of water that has been in contact with crystals, you MUST do a through research to make sure they don't release ANY chemicals in the water.
Plus you can infuse water with crystal energy without them touching the water.

The Sun
As for Sunlight, it can bleach your crystals and alter the coloration over time. The heat can also greatly damage them! An example of crystals that shouldn't be exposed to the sun is quartz. Pretty much all kinds, including amethyst and citrine.
Fun fact: burned amethyst clusters are very often sold as citrine. They have a burned yellow/brown/orange aspect to them, like in this image.
Real citrine has lighter yellow and orange tones.

Fail proof Cleansing & Charging
Nothing can go wrong with them when it comes to crystal safety. The worst that can happen is performing them poorly, which could affect cleansing and charging effectiveness.
Smoke
There's no way to go wrong here. You can light an incense or burn herbs of your choosing, pick up a crystal, and cleanse them with the smoke. You can use energetic herbs such as rosemary to charge them.
Tip: You can choose the herbs and incense based on your stones properties! (For example, use a fiery herb to charge a fiery crystal)
Sound
There are many ways to go about this. Singing bowls, affirmations, vocal singing, bells, prayer, chanting, galdr (rune chanting), calming and uplifting music...
Choose your sound, cleanse your space, set your intention, and let Sound do its job. If you are going to charge the crystals yourself using a method such as chanting to your stones, cleansing yourself first and having a ritualistic setup would be nice. It can help you focus and make sure you will only send positive energies to your crystals.
Reiki and Energy work
Absolutely no way to go wrong. Reiki is a wonderful cleasing/charging method.
You would have to be initiated in order to do Reiki, but if you can't afford that, any kind of energy work and energy manipulation will do. Just make sure to prepare yourself beforehand and focus on what you are doing.
You can use tools to help in energy manipulation, such as an athame or wand.
Water Glass Cleansing
You are NOT going to put your crystals INSIDE the water glass. That's why this is a safe cleansing method.
Fill a glass of water and set your intentions for the water to absorb all negativity from your crystals, then leave your stones & crystals near your glass of water for a few hours.
It is preferable to use a transparent glass. It doesn't have to be, but it is better. I also wouldn't recommend plastic of any kind.
Once you are done, dispose of the water, thanking it for its help, and wash the glass before using it again.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Consider Crystal Safety with These
They are commonly believed to be harmless (and that's mostly true), but give them some thought anyway. I will explain why.
Immersing in Salt
Salt has strong cleansing properties. You can fill a small bowl with enough salt to bury your crystals and leave them there for a few hours to a day. You could also use salt water the same way.
Why be careful?
Salt can trigger chemical reactions in some crystals. I'm mainly talking about salt water, but just to be safe, it might be best to have caution with solid salt as well.

Burying in Earth
Burying crystals (especially if close to a plant or tree) is a popular cleansing/charging method. After all, they came from the earth! Who else could take better care of them?
You can leave your crystals buried outside for a few hours to a day and let the planet do its job.
Why be careful?
If you are going to leave crystals outside beneath the earth, you shouldn't have to worry about the Sun. It is WATER that you should worry about.
If it rains, the water will reach your crystals. If want to bury non water-safe crystals, make sure rain won't get to them.
Tip #1: Don't forget where you buried them
Tip #2: An alternative to burying outside is to bury crystals on your household plant's pot. You can even match the plant's own properties to the energy you want to work on your crystal.

Moonlight Bath
Not moon water, just moonlight. Just let your crystals bask in moonlight... It is almost failproof.
Why be careful?
I say it's almost failproof because it can only fail if you forget your crystals outside until the sun is out, or until it rains.
If you think you are prone to forgetting to collect your crystals before the sun shines, do this early in the night and set an alarm to collect your crystals in a few hours.
Tip: you can still cleanse and charge with Moon energy even if the weather is not favorable. Just be careful with rain.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Possibly Harmful Methods
For these, you NEED to know your crystals before you do them. Especially the ones involving water and heat, you should take into consideration your own health due to possible chemical releases!
Sun charging
While it can be great to have sun energy on some of your crystals, this is one of the unsafest methods for the crystals. A lot of them will bleach, change color and even crack after prolonged sunlight exposure. If you're leaving crystals in the Sun, I suggest you leave them out for no more than an hour.
Also, watch out for weather changes if you have a crystal that is not waterproof.
Sidenote: if you have crystal necklaces, remember you might also accidentally expose them to sunlight and rain when you wear them outdoors.
Sun water
Can't have your crystals in the Sun, but it's a fire crystal so you would like it to be charged with sun energy?
If they are water safe, make some sun water, fill a bowl with it, and let your crystals sit in it for a few hours.
Moon water
As long as your crystal is waterproof, it should be fine. Just fill a bowl with moon water and let your crystals be for a few hours.
If you don't know if your crystals are water safe, it's best not to risk it.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Never Ever...
... Expose your crystals to intense heat
No candles, no hot water, no intense sunlight. Not only you will very likely damage your crystal, intense heat and burning of crystals can release toxic fumes.
... Use chemicals to clean crystals
No soaps, alcohol, detergents, salts, etc. They might trigger chemical reactions when in contact with some crystals. So unless you know exactly what you're doing, keep these away from them.
... Touch dissolved crystal water
If you put your crystal in water and a chemical reaction happened, it's best to not touch the water. It could cause skin irritation and intoxication.
_________________♡♤◇♧_________________
Conclusion
Sometimes we leave crystals outside so that they can be bestowed Nature's blessings, and we forget about them. It happens, as do all accidents.
But you can avoid a lot of damage (yours and theirs) by simply studying about them before submitting them to anything that could be potentially harmful.
Remember your crystals need a lot of love and care, and that goes for their physical care, too. They are unique because of their physical and chemical properties as well, not just spiritual ones.
Thank you for reading and love your crystals!

Relationships With The Netjeru: Introduction
Lately, I’ve been journaling about my relationship with Set and it gave me an idea for a series of blogs about the Netjeru I work with. Posts like this were what made me begin properly working with Them. A devotional is a heartfelt offering between a person and a deity. A devotional shared has a way of echoing what sings in the heart of another. I’ll begin this series by sharing the nature of my relationship with the Netjeru and what being Kemetic means to me.
I find the Netjeru to be different from the Gods of other pantheons. They are much more relaxed and understanding regarding tradition and what we perceive as insults or mistakes (Set most of all). I would compare my relationships with Them to growing up in a house with a lot of family members. There are times when we laugh or grieve together. There are times when They must be stern or let me do something on my own. There are times when They are disappointed but that can be forgiven by a heartfelt apology and genuine effort. Other times call for greater formality and respect. Still others are ceremonial in nature or very down-to-business.
I am not the best at giving formal offerings or praying at my altar. I don’t always have the time or energy and honestly, sometimes I forget. And that is more than okay. The Netjeru don’t expect that from me and They’ve communicated that very clearly. They’re more concerned with how I’m doing than They are about regular offerings of specially prepared food or gifts I purchased while thinking of Them. That’s not to say those efforts aren’t appreciated. I would love to have more time to have a practice like that. What I have developed is much more organic.
For me, prayer is more of a conversation. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Sometimes it is as simple as asking for a boon. When my partner moved in with me, I had been dealing with nightmares. I would thrash around in my sleep and occasionally wake him up with a smack in the face. One night before bed I prayed to Bast and asked Her to give me restful sleep so that I would stop doing that. From that night on, I slept peacefully. It’s often small blessings that afford the highest gratitude.
There were other times when I asked for an answer or resolution to a persistent problem to which I received what I thought was silence. Sometimes, for Them to act we have to take, at the very least, just one small step away from our comfort zone. The life we want is not always in alignment with ma’at. The solutions we envision are not always going to work with our highest good. The Netjeru always listen. They are never “too busy” to be there for us. But like a parent, They sometimes expect us to take action and do things for ourselves.
There is one thing that every person has to offer Gods and spirits regardless of their circumstances, but it requires a special kind of comfort zone. Provided consent is given, the Netjeru can live vicariously through you. If you would so allow it, They can taste what you taste, feel what you feel, see what you see, and love what you love. What is yours by experience becomes Theirs. It is the freely given perspective of a life well lived that They cherish more than any other offering.
I work with certain Netjeru in my writing and research, shamanic practice, divination, healing, and ceremonial magick. I’ll give a few examples. During reiki, I call upon Yinepu when I need assistance. I have a specific kind of clairempathy when performing reiki. If a client is in a significant amount of stomach pain for instance, that pain will transfer to me. I’ve learned to work with Yinepu in keeping grounded during reiki. It’s similar to calling upon the Archangel Michael as both of Their domains involve mastery of boundaries.
When in shamanic trance, I’ve had many encounters with Djehuty and Aset offering wisdom or guidance. I blessed two of my tarot decks to each of Them respectively and the tones the decks have are very different. Set has guided my thoughts while writing for many years, planting little breadcrumbs to each “aha!” and I’ve called upon Him in ritual almost exclusively for as long as I’ve practiced magick.
I love and respect the Netjeru as I would my own parents. Truth be told, They were often better than the parents I had. Like any child would, I sometimes turn my back on Them in moments of anger or fear, but They are always right there… waiting. They allowed me the opportunity to venture off and find my own way. They watched smiling as I explored heathenry knowing that in finding myself, I would find my way back to Them. They were not at all jealous of my dealings with the Vanir.
Such profound trust and belief in a person foster loyalty unlike any other. The Netjeru were always, always there for me whether I was happy or sad, weak or strong, successful or not. They were always honest and freely gave the kind of support I needed exactly when I needed it. They brought ma'at into my home, giving me a sanctuary from the isfet outside. They loved and supported me unconditionally, effortlessly knowing the genuine Truth singing from my Heart, something that—as far as people are concerned—only my husband has ever been able to do. That is why I am a Kemetic.
Dua Netjeru!

BHP hire us for a Christmas Session Pack (5x consultation sessions with the core magicians).
Session 1 we imagine what seeing a ghost would be like, to see a ghost that isnt a media representation of an era, for example a woman from the 1940s the way media has documented that they looked and acted, instead how an actual person in 1940 is, how they smell, how a face that's never seen concentrated blue-light appears to our eye, pre-media apparition. Whats the vibration of non-synthetic fabric like when draped on flesh that's never touched synthetic fabric?
Session 2 we pretend to be Aboriginals experiencing First Contact with a plane in the sky, in country South Australia. We are PANICKED and racing to find a tree to hide under and also experiencing an insane pull to watch and monitor the sound and structure threatening us. We let our physiology really take this one. Maybe we go raw camping and have a vintage bi-plane fly over to experience it for real? We have been educated by an Elder on how to camp in the conditions of the region, and how camp life may have been in the time we are embodying for the exercise.
Session 3 we pretend to be Aboriginal Australian's experiencing stories of First Contact from another tribe. Two of us are the delegates to receive the information from the other mob first. We don't know what we are about to hear. We may or may not have a framework to experience this through. Then the two leaders discuss amongst themselves how to best convey this information to the rest of the family. Then we are the family hearing this information for the first time and reacting instinctually, feeling. Immediately, emotionally, riddled with cortisol, we formulate a plan on what to do, how to process this New Experience, what now?
Session 4 Phase One: we gather at Highpoint and make crazy scary eyes at Shoppers. Paranoid schizophrenia. We are doing improv based around the idea that shoppers are under trance and need to associate their actions with threat and fear, in an attempt to wake them up. Perhaps we have had a few lectures on Charles Manson and Jonestown (The Peoples Temple Agricultural Project) in preparation for this spiritual mission. Phase Two: We do the same but sending the shoppers loving perception, knowing that they are victims in a trance, we try to perceive them in a way that breaks the trance lovingly, with compassion and understanding. We have probably taken showers, changed outfits, and have cleared the prior energy. We probably have take Reiki and K-PSYCH courses in preparation and are coming to this exercise as Reiki Masters and reasonably versed in Kinesiology.
Session 5 we meet at sunrise at the corner of Elizabeth and Flinders Street (where we have asked BHP to relocate an adult sized mature gumtree) and burn the gumtree. Agency Agency does a lot of work at this location.

Harry Theodore Wells || Manny Jacinto || 35 || Investment Banker
Personality:
There’s a lot of assumptions to be made about Tad but generally they sum up to him being some kind of brainless jock who peaked in high school and slid into the good life by hanging on his father’s coattails. Sure Tad likes to take care of his body–but the brain is the most important muscle, right? Have more than one conversation with him and you’ll begin to realize he’s a pretty thoughtful guy. He believes in the power of intention and manifesting what you want in life; he understands that emotional pain is just as real as physical pain and he’s a pretty good shoulder to cry on after a messy break up.
Biography:
Tad and his siblings were second generation immigrants from the Philippines. Thanks to their parents and grandparents Tad, Becky, and Doug were damn well guaranteed an easy life. Grandpa had worked in corporate finance with a number of big name companies and dad had continued the work during his own lifetime. Their family name had become respectable within the circles they worked and there was clear intention for Tad and Doug to carry the family business on. Doug was several years older and had already been working in dad’s shadow by the time Tad was graduating college.
He still isn’t sure if it was greed or the need to prove himself to the family, but Tad made a very stupid choice that cost his family almost everything they’d worked for. A rival company had made Tad an offer–a damn good offer–and he made the mistake of thinking that just because he had a finance degree he knew anything about the world of money management. The reality was cutthroat, dangerous. When that much money was on the line.. People.. Companies.. Were willing to do just about anything to protect their investments.
Doug and dad were left dealing with the mess Tad had made and he was all but excommunicated from the family. He spent a few years doing nothing jobs and going nowhere before Sada Vang finally wore him down and he accepted the offer to work for her. He figured he’d already lost the things that were most important to him, going to jail for white collar crime didn’t really scare him anymore.
The last thing he expected was for things to actually work out. He began making more money than he knew what to do with and his loyalty to Sada only deepened. She became the only family he had, some fucked up aunt who offered him blow as a reward for successful investments. Ria had been the jewel in his crown. He’d been in love with her from the moment they met and he was willing to spend all the money in the world to make her his.
Tad got stuck in the chaos of the winter supply runs and ended up on the far side of the city with a broken ankle. He was lucky enough to find a kind stranger who helped him survive the winter by taking him back to her farm. When the snow cleared he made his way back to the Wexley just in time for Sada to make her power play. And when that power began to drive her just a little mad.. he stepped aside to let others do the dirty work. What a gutless bastard.
Thanks to Ria he's done his best to move on from the situation. Sada's empire wasn't sustainable but maybe the Wexley township could be. He has to believe it, has to hope that Sada's death was worth something.
Special Skills:
level 3 reiki healer, amazing with numbers, attention to detail, thinks outside the box, knows how to sail, knot tying, makes a killer martini, can prepare sushi and fresh fish, taught himself to spear fish, brown belt in akido, basic krav maga
Connections:
Ria Wells - Wifey 4 lifey
Sada Vang - Auntie, deceased
Ashton Ryder - Neighbors/friends/bros
Hope Zhang - Childhood friends

Tonight I will be performing my first Reiki session since 2000. Once upon a time I was preparing to perform reiki as a career. I had all the tools I needed, pamphlets made, a web page, the credit card machine, etc. And then Covid happened.
As I am diving back into my notes from 2020 I came across the below. It explains what reiki is and how one of my sessions usually works.
Dave (Das Energi) been a practicing Buddhist, meditating regularly for over 15 years. He has identified as a healer since high school when he would give massages for fun to friends and family. Through his hugs and touch, Dave transmutes negative energy into positive.
Dave had his Kundalini Awakening experience in 2014. Since then he has connected to his global soul family including shamans, witches, healers, and the divine. He is a beacon of light and love, guiding others on their spiritual path. He is a Kundalini Reiki Master and also a Level II Usui Reiki Practitioner.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a combination of two Japanese kanji characters: "Rei" meaning universal spirit and "Ki" meaning life force energy. During a Reiki session, the Reiki practitioner connects with the universal energy source and places their hands on or above the recipient with the intention to encourage emotional, physical, or spiritual well-being.
Reiki is not a massage but rather a healing technique of "laying hands" which has been used for thousands of years across several cultures and continents. Most people find Reiki to be relaxing, however sensitivity to energy differs from person to person.
No two Reiki sessions are exactly alike. A session will begin by discussing the recipient’s intentions for receiving Reiki and if they are experiencing any discomfort either physically, emotionally, or spiritually. This information will be helpful in guiding the practitioner during the healing.
The recipient and the practitioner will then ground their energies with the Earth, and breathe together so that their energies are in sync and harmonized.
The recipient will then lay down, fully clothed, on a massage table and be encouraged to close their eyes and meditate or notice any bodily sensations that may arise during the session. The Reiki practitioner will then conduct a body scan, feeling if any of the recipient’s chakras are out of alignment or an auric cleansing needs to be done.
The Reiki practitioner will lay their hands on the recipient’s body and follow their intuition laying their hands on several bodily locations. It is important to note that Reiki energy will flow to other parts of the body. For example, if the Reiki practitioner lays hands on the recipient’s feet, the energy may travel to the recipient’s lower-back, or if hands are laid on the stomach, the energy may travel to the neck. The Reiki energy knows where it needs to go, even if neither the recipient nor the practitioner is aware.
During the final moments, the Reiki session will be closed with a brief sound bath. The practitioner will then seal the energy field and ground the recipient back to the Earth with breathwork again.
Everything is energy. The physical body is electrical and so are our thoughts and brain functions. Our thoughts form energy patterns and create emotions that affect our aura/electrical field. Our energy field interacts and influences everything around us including other humans, plants, and animals; even the food we eat is affected by the energy of the person preparing it. We are surrounded by energetic fields and it is common for people to unconsciously draw on the energy of others around them, affecting their emotions and vitality.
When there is an imbalance in the body, it is stuck energy. Energy must always move, and when it cannot, it will find the weakest part of the physical body where it will manifest itself into some type of challenge.
Reiki allows the universal life force to flow through us so that a heart-mind alignment can occur, releasing lower energy vibrations like fear, worry, anxiety, stress, anger, and disappointment. It brings balance to emotions, thoughts, biological processes, energy centers, and helps to reduce pain, inflammation, and stress within the body.
For Reiki to do the best work you will also need to be a participant in the healing process. You must be open to the healing energy to flow within you. The Reiki practitioner is only a facilitator of healing, and it is the positive intentions of the recipient that affects the outcome most dramatically.
Everything in the universe is made of energy, therefore Reiki can be performed on everything in the universe. Most people use Reiki to clear their own energetic blockages, but it can also be used on our beloved pets when they need a boost of positive energy or as an alternative to using sage to clear our homes of negative energy (ideal for those sensitive to smoke or smells).

Once the seven chakras have been purified ~ where 51% of our divine spiritual energy is able to flow through our system ~ the divine energy from the kundalini will rise, breaking the seven seals that have been placed over our seven chakras that have kept us veiled and bound by the duality of the 3rd dimension. Once the veils of amnesia/blocks are removed our higher/spiritual chakras will be activated, and we will continue to open and expand our being based on our commitment and level of dedication to our "spiritual practice". There are many, many chakras beyond the 7 ~ but it is the 7 primary chakras that are the rainbow bridge that connect our physical body to our Divine Spirit.
The best way to open and purify the seven chakras is through:
1. HEALING THE SHADOW AND EGO CONSCIOUSNESS
2. Meditation and Visualization
3. Energy work such as Pranic Healing, Reiki, DNA Theta, Cranial Sacral or any other energetic modality
4. Yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi or any kind of exercise will increase energy circulation through our chakra system and break up old stagnant blocks.
5. Allowing yourself to process through your emotions and feelings by "FEELING" them. Stored unprocessed feelings create blocks in the chakras that block the flow of divine energy.
6. Practicing Self Love and Oneness
7. Living an AUTHENTIC life.
8. Speaking Our Truth with words of LOVE.
9. Expressing Gratitude.
10. Channeling Creative Energies through art, dance, cooking, writing, singing etc....
11. Energy activations such as a Reiki Attunement, Deeksha, DNA Activation etc.....
I have read several teachings where people are saying ~ if you do not focus on your higher chakras, those above the seven ~ you will be limited and holding yourself back. However, from my perspective, the only way you could hold yourself back is if you don't do any spiritual work at all, and you choose to keep your self stuck in shadow and ego consciousness. In addition, the higher spiritual chakras simply will not open until the lower seven have been purified. Each chakra is a doorway or portal into higher consciousness and once they are understood, opened and cleared we move into a state of wholeness bringing our Spirit down into matter. Once this occurs, then we can focus on the higher ones and our spiritual self will continue to open and expand those that we are ready to have activated ~ based on our level of vibration.
If we get over zealous in our spiritual practice thinking we can skip over the building blocks of our spiritual expansion we may run into problems. It is kind of like a baby learning how to walk. First we must build up our muscles to lift ourselves up, then we begin to crawl, then we begin to walk and then we begin to run! We don't just come out of the womb ready to run....there are prerequisites and stages to our development and we want our spiritual expansion to be safe and GROUNDED. Too much too soon can be overwhelming.
During meditations and visualizations, AFTER you have spent time with the intention to clear your 7 chakras, you can connect with your HEART and CROWN space directly above your head. Send love to these areas and know that you are deeply loved and fully supported. The raising of divine spiritual energy from the root chakra ~ all the way up the spine ~ to the crown chakra requires PATIENCE, TRUST, FAITH and SELF PURIFICATION. Divine energy will rise at exactly the right time for each soul's journey. Your focused attention on meditation and the clearing of your chakras/energy fields, as well as, your desire to live a life of "good will" will activate your dormant kundalini energy to rise when your system has been adequately prepared. Please do not force the process.

Jewitch Self-Analysis: Regular Practice
I'm well past the hyperfocus that led to me making this blog last summer, and I've been analyzing where I'm at with my regular magic practice. It's funny, for as much as I love the energy and mindsets that surround the witchy community, I'm not what you would call an active practitioner? And I think I'm accepting this fact, more than I was before when I had grandiose plans for the Jewitch I wanted to be.
A little background to what contributed to this conclusion.
I tried out tarot divination 100 days in a row, from a daily card pull to a more in-depth spread. It turned from trying to predict the day to a simple daily reflection before I went to bed. Then about as soon as I completed the challenge I set down my cards I haven't picked them up since. These days I just pay attention to anything unusual, and frequently my shuffled songs bring up music that reflects where I'm at. I came to this realization that I don't need to try to predict my future, because I know I can adapt to anything that comes my way.
I took a Reiki class to develop my energy work skills, and I have not kept up with the daily practice my instructor insisted on. I do a self-treatment once in a blue moon, but overall it requires more energy to practice than I feel I receive from it. I also haven't been in a situation where I needed any additional healing, because I am generally in pretty safe situations and feel unbothered by little burns or bruises that serve to remind me of my humanity.
A month ago I stuck up a mezuzah in my car, and I saw that it didn't have a Shemah scroll inside it. And my thought was, "that's okay, I carry the Shemah inside of me." I still kiss the little mezuzah with the intentions of protection while driving and to deter potential thieves, knowing that ultimately I am actually passing on that intention to the universe which will decide how to handle it.
With all of this, I feel that the only spell I am casting on the regular is "trust the universe." Both with my daily prayers to express gratitude, and frequent thoughts of trust. By practicing so little I feel I am investing the power of my trust into HaShem, and I am consistently rewarded with a beautiful life and no more weight than what I can carry.
Sometimes I'll do easy extra spells if I want a little extra oomph. I may engage in a little magic to prepare me for the day, simple things like adding intention to my breakfast to increase my energy, or sometimes moving my hands in motions of protection when I know it's going to be rough (usually when it's windy, which can drain me). I use a particular hand motion to combat my anxiety, and I sing mindlessly to center myself or improve focus.
And that's about it. These topics interest me, I like collecting resources and skills to stick in my back pocket, but overall I am not what past me would consider a true practitioner. And that's okay. I'm at peace with the passive Jewitch I am right now.

October 16th 1774 saw the death of Robert Fergusson, poet, in the Edinburgh Bedlam.
The Scottish poet who was one of the leading figures of the 18th-century revival of Scots vernacular writing and the chief forerunner of Robert Burns.
Fergusson was educated at the University of St. Andrews and became a copying clerk in a lawyer’s office in Edinburgh. In 1771 he began to contribute poems to Ruddiman’s Weekly Magazine. Although he was noted for the vivacity of temperament reflected in his verse, from 1773 his good spirits were encroached upon by fits of depression and religious guilt, and after suffering a severe head injury in a fall he became insane. He died in the Edinburgh asylum at the age of 24.
Fergusson’s poems were popular from their first appearance, and a collected volume came out in 1773. He wrote in both Scots and English, but the English verse has little value. His Scots poems—racy, realistic, wittily descriptive and humorous—had a stimulating effect on Burns, whose “Holy Fair” and “The Cotter’s Saturday Night” stem from Fergusson’s “Leith Races” and “The Farmer’s Ingle.” But vigorous poems like “The Daft Days,” “Address to the Tron Kirk Bell,” and the famous “Auld Reekie” prove how well Fergusson can stand as a poet in his own right. Burns was a great admirer of Fergussons work and was appalled when visiting Edinburgh on finding no gravestone where the young poet was buried in Canongate kirkyard, he set about putting this to rights.
He paid for a simple headstone, although church records say they had to "remind" him to cough up with the money, he had it inscribed with…..
No sculptured marble here, nor pompous lay, No storied urn, nor animated bust ; This simple stone directs pale Scotia’s way, To pour her sorrows o’er her poet’s dust.
Fergusson’s ‘Auld Reikie’ is a 300-line poem praising Edinburgh through observations of the daily life of ordinary people. Never patronising, Fergusson’s poem documents a day in the life of the city, embracing shopkeepers, porters, children, whores, dandies, debtors, servants, lawyers and schoolboys. For Burns Fergusson’s poetry served as a model of how the Scots dialect was ideally suited to the energy of the lives of ordinary people.
I think a 300 line poem is a bit much to inflict on you all so here is a wee excerpt
… Now morn, with bonny purpie-smiles, Kisses the air-cock o’ St Giles; Rakin their een, the servant lasses Early begin their lies and clashes; Ilk tells her friend o’ saddest distress, That still she brooks frae scouling mistress; And wi her joe in turnpike stair She’d rather snuff the stinking air, As be subjected to her tongue, When justly censur’d in the wrong. On stair wi tub, or pat in hand, The barefoot housemaids loo to stand, That antrin fock may ken how snell Auld Reikie will at morning smell: Then, with an inundation big as The burn that ‘neath the Nore Loch Brig is, They kindly shower Edina’s roses, To quicken and regale our noses. Now some for this, wi satire’s leesh, Hae gien auld Edinburgh a creesh: But without souring nocht is sweet; The morning smells that hail our street Prepare, and gently lead the way To simmer canty, braw and gay; Edina’s sons mair eithly share Her spices and her dainties rare, Than he that’s never yet been call’d Aff frae his plaidie or his fauld. Now stairhead critics, senseless fools, Censure their aim, and pride their rules, In Luckenbooths, wi glowring eye, Their neighbour’s sma’est faults descry: If ony loun should dander there, Of aukward gate and foreign air, They trace his steps, till they can tell His pedigree as weel’s himsel …

A year-end review is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the past year, celebrate your achievements, and chart a course for the future. It's a time to savor the meaningful moments and experiences that have shaped your journey. However, it's not just about checking off goals; it's about embracing the full range of your experiences. As you prepare for your year-end review, here are five key elements to consider:
Your Greatest Challenges and Wins
Life is a series of ups and downs, and your year-end review should capture this cycle. While it's easy to get caught up in the highs or lows, true growth lies in balance. Reflect on your biggest accomplishments and the hurdles you've overcome. Remember, even setbacks can be valuable teachers. Your year-end review is a platform for learning, growing, and recognizing your progress, whether you achieved all your goals or not. Your journey will lend you valuable insights into what to work on next, as well as what changes you need to make to achieve your long-term goals.
2. Personal Growth and Transformation
This past year has been a journey like no other. You evolved as you faced challenges and experiences, both positive and negative. Take time to reflect on the person you've become compared to who you were at the start of the year. Life's unpredictable moments, shared memories, and challenging days contribute to your personal growth. Embrace the beautiful and profound ways you've changed, and write about your experiences and lessons in your journal.
3. Memorable and Joyful Moments
What made this year special?
Delve into the joyous memories and unforgettable moments that define 2023. These core memories are worth preserving. Whether it's a memorable New Year's Eve party, a heartwarming first date, a cozy snowy Sunday, or a hilarious movie night with friends, write them down. These memories deserve a place in your journal, so you can revisit them whenever you need a reminder of the beauty in your life.
4. Intentions for the Upcoming Year
While you look back, it's equally important to think about the future. Personal growth is an ongoing journey, and the year-end review is an ideal time to work on future goals. In your journal, outline your goals and aspirations for the coming year. What do you want to accomplish? Where do you want to be at this time next year? Also, how do you envision your life being different and better in the next 12 months? These are essential questions to help you embrace the possibilities of the new year.
5. Gratitude and Acknowledgment
While reviewing your year, don't forget to express gratitude and acknowledge those who have been part of your journey. Share your appreciation for the people, opportunities, and circumstances that have contributed to your growth and happiness. Gratitude is a powerful tool for creating a positive outlook and fostering connections. Use your year-end review to reflect on the many blessings and the people who have been a meaningful part of your life.
Incorporating these elements into your year-end review will make it a more comprehensive and fulfilling process. It's a time to celebrate not only your achievements but also the journey itself. Acknowledge your personal growth even as you look forward to the opportunities that the future holds.

I want to preface this post by saying: this isn't what Science Yarn will be all about. This is an explanation of why I try to explain science in a fun, simple, understandable way, and you don't need to care to follow along. Just be prepared for the occasional commentary on academia.
The content of Science Yarn will be me trying to explain science and philosophy so that actual humans can understand it without decades of studying. The other posts will probably also not be this long at all.
I also want to say that this is not necessarily my full or perfect view of science and philosophy. I mainly want to show that I will occasionally try to look critically at the current systems of science that we populate.
The Spire of Academia
I'm not the first person to ever talk about it. Some people call it the 'spire of academia', some call it an 'ivory tower', some people relate it to elitarian or to academia, or say it's an inherent property of science. I'm talking about the threshold that makes it so difficult to join science.
The Problem
The problem that a lot of people have with science is that it's so hard to be a part of it yourself. I myself am a relatively new university student. Where I live, that means I've had 14 years of education behind me, and depending on my future decisions multiple still in front of me. I'm hardly even specialised yet.
Those are 14 years of day in, day out learning. Most other kids either didn't want that, or didn't appreciate the theoretical approach. Only the kids with the best grades were funnelled to go on to university, and even then, not all of them choose to. And if I could change my decision, I probably would.
Why? Not because I'm not smart, I mean, I made it, right? Not because the curriculum was too hard, because again, I made it. Not because I don't like the prestige of being able to say that I'm studying at a university. It does feel a bit cool to say. But because I'm not sure some of the things I'm doing are really in the spirit of science.
Pseudoscience
And to understand that, we have to look at one of the biggest competitors with science: pseudoscience. This is a name that scientists and philosophers believe will highlight the nonsense factor, and there are many more ways that we try to stop belief in pseudosciences. But somehow, it doesn't seem to be working.
So let's first talk about why pseudosciences are pseudosciences. There are different reasons that something may be demarcated. There might not be proof that the theory given is correct at all. It might be impossible to prove that the theory is correct because there is no way to check it; you can't verify that the theory is actually what is causing the effects. You may even be able to show inaccuracies, biases, or contradictions within the theories themselves. And science is always first to point those things out.
But why do people still so massively flock to these theories? Why are crystal healing, reiki, and chiropractors doing so well, even when science refutes them, or at least says we can't be sure that they work? Well, there are various reasons for that.
Firstly, it has to do with how difficult it is to actually understand science. Of course, partially, that's to do with how abstract, or sometimes tiny or huge things are. You can't just go and experience an acid trading a hydrogen atom with a base the same way you can experience a Newton's cradle. In chemistry, we call that micro/meso/macro levels. Macro is what you can actually experience.
Similarly, in physics, you have to imagine all these arrows that describe forces and velocity. You have to imagine those being invisible things that influence the whole world. This ground we live on is a massive ball of liquid stone and metal. All the small balls in the sky are actually bigger than the Earth. Those aren't things you can "just" wrap your head around.
But that's not everything. Because these sizes are called 'macro' and 'micro', and not something like 'seeable size' and 'molecule size'. The arrows aren't called 'unit arrows' but instead 'vectors'. And there's reasons for that... sometimes. 'Micro' is shorter than 'molecule size', but more esoteric; you have to know what it is to know what it is. 'Molecule size' is a very clearly understandable term, even if you don't know yet what it means. Similarly, science has a lot of Latin terms, wherever possible. And I won't deny that Latin is a fascinating and very cool language, but research shows that there are significantly fewer ancient Romans these days than about 1800 years ago. And, fun fact - but this is just my own agenda - there has been one more Polish eye doctor who's invented a language to be as easy to learn as possible, and also modular. I'm subconsciously telling your brain to learn Esperanto for science. Especially effective since Latin went through centuries of different phases, while Esperanto is synthetic and doesn't have such weaknesses. >:)
So between all the things that are so small that trust me bro, things that aren't physical but that influence the world, and stuff that's written in a language most people don't even know, it's not surprising that some folks decide to believe in essential oils. Because oils are physical things, and they're understandable English words too. The part of believing they exist at all is easily done, so you only need to give the impression that they work. Plus, they smell nice!
How to Save Science
Okay, so I don't really have the answers for how to save science, that just sounds good as a title, but I have some ideas, some of them quite easy to implement.
Firstly, look back at the whole academia thing. I think much of academia is an attempt to find a middle ground between one scientific formal (super precise) but esoteric (closed off from the outside world) language, and one language that actual human beings speak when being people. And maybe that mix isn't that effective. Even for most scientists it is hard to keep their attention. Instead, what if I could just write down some scientific formulas and give some extra context in human language where needed?
And that brings us to my second point: sometimes, you need to stop trying to make one language that encapsules everything. Or at least don't try to use it until it's double-triple-checked. Science is a tool to help the world and the people on it. As it currently goes, most people can't understand what we mean because of our weird terms that most people have never heard before, that require a whole dictionary just to keep up with. Instead, how about we translate some scientific works to human language? Have both versions available: English and Academia.
And finally, I too hate academia. I'm great with formal languages (like formulas, not fancy rich folk etiquette speech) and I'm a person who speaks human speech, but academia is such a massive barrier for me, despite everything I could help science with otherwise. I can perfectly communicate my ideas in language that I use, but currently, I'm being judged on how well I can write texts according to specific parameters that I don't believe are good for science. Maybe we need to separate formal and human language and acknowledge that barrier. And then when we need to communicate between the two, we call in someone who actually likes it. But until then, I'm not sure I'm thrilled about what we call science, and I might just use science to mean my own goals. And I will keep being a little chaos gremlin. Keep following this err- Tumb? Tlog? Whatever they're called for more.
