#How to ask for a raise

Hi BGR! I'm a data analyst, and I started at 57. The average salary for a data analyst in my area is about 80. I want to ask for a raise at my 1 year mark, and I was thinking of asking for 20%. Is that ... Too little? I know I am/have become integral to the team, and I live in one of the highest COL states in the country. But I have no good way to judge this, and am from a poor background so I already feel like I'm making a TON of money. My company is small, so I can ask the owner directly -- and she is I think keen on retaining current employees in hopes that we will become essentially heads of departments. I've read your blog posts on it also and I'm kind of .. well, how does that conversation even start? How do you initiate it? What kinds of things should you say or offer to be persuasive? This feels like one of the things that's like arcane knowledge that middle class + people somehow gain by osmosis and working poor or poor-poor hardly ever get taught/get to learn and I'm so lost as to the very most basics of how to even *start* the asking situation. Please, could you help advise?

Honey you're so right---there is massive privilege in coming from a background and family where navigating corporate language is just kinda... known. People who don't come from that background are left at a massive disadvantage!

So here's your script for starting the conversation. Send an email that says:

I’d like to meet with you soon to discuss my job performance, contribution to the company, and my overall compensation. When can we schedule this conversation?

Then, once you're meeting in person you can lean into the awkwardness of it all by being like "Wow, this is awkward! I've never asked for a raise before, so bear with me. Well Transformers Prime, Transformers 1986 and IDW comics are having the first place that’s for sure

And then the second place is kind of shared by Fall of Cybertron, Exodus, Prime wars trilogy, Robots in disguise(2001) and Transformers One.

The third place goes to G1, Animated, Earthspark, Armada, War for Cybertron Netflix series, Aligned Robots in disguise, Bumblebee, Rise of the Beasts and Cyberverse because I only liked some little parts of them.

And then I also saw some of the Bay movies, Victory and Headmasters and didn’t like them at all.

Separate first place for J-Decker. It is not exactly Transformers but it is a show about giant robots and I loved it

i think you're misunderstanding my point. "villain" in the sense of it as a role in the prophecy. someone who opposes how things should be. the natural order. the story. dark heroes "carry out fate with the blade". she is the dragon, as gerson calls her (non coincidentally, he informs us that the heroes stop the dragon in the first book of lord of the hammer) and gerson himself questions in multiple places whether the role of "hero" should be taken for granted as good.

the prophecy IS a form of violence within the game. for a kid who suffered systemic neglect and abuse all her life like susie, who nevertheless is so determined to love her friends and change things for the better, it's no wonder she's seen as a threat.

It's funny how in fanfics, people write Clark giving parenting advices to Bruce, when in the comics (see: World's Finest: Batman and Superman) and other media (see: Young Justice), Bruce is the one giving parenting advices to Clark, and he is always very serious about it.

After all, Bruce has been a father figure and mentor for longer and more kids than Clark. Of course he doesn't need to call Clark for help to learn how to take care of his kids, Clark is the one calling Bruce for help when he has an issue and Ma Kent is busy.

Hi Erin, I have a question. Is Dick Grayson jealous of Richard Parker because of Peter??? What I'm trying to say is that no parent would trade their child's first steps/words etc. and in our case, Dick saw none of that.

the most prominent feeling he has for richard is devastation

this version of himself almost had everything (thought dick isn't as aware of this yet as he could be) and then he lost it in the blink of an eye. the idea that he could die, his partner could die, and leave his kid without them just like his parents had to? devastating. he probably already has this fear in himself, heightened because of his vigilante work. when he was a kid nothing like that mattered but now he's an adult and the possibility is there. how could he bring a kid into the world if it was possible to put them through the same pain that he was put through? and this other him wasn't even a vigilante. he sees peter and that resilience and he can't help but wonder who the hell gave that to him. he doesn't even know that it's him (and ales)

he does envy richard underneath all of that. he wants to know how he got past that fear of having kids, what it was like for him to hold peter for the first time. he wants to know what peter's first word was and what TV shows he watched, of richard told him the same stories mary grayson told him at bedtime. then he starts thinking about how richard would be envious of him, for getting to see peter as he is now

Okay, so first of all Dan would like to say it’s not his fault. Ellie was the one to bring some unknown object into the speeder and Jazz was the one driving. Or had Sam been driving- didn’t matter! It wasn’t his fault, he wasn’t the one shooting at them, he wasn’t the one to break whatever, he was not the one to open a stupid portal, and so it wasn’t his fault! 

So why is he now like, five years old, and why is the speeder crashed in some sort of corn field. Why is everyone- except for Jazz whose now like six- also like three at most?! And- oh fuck the door just opened and… okay that’s a kid. Like, nine at most. 

A kid and an adult, who he hadn’t noticed at first so again, it’s not his fault if he hissed at them and tried to hide his not-siblings behind him. It’s also not fair they’re apparently stuck to ghost speak for who knows how long, but at least they can understand the people.

truthfully, shouto doesn't spend long "celebrating". there's already too much that's required of him, hardly enough time to even scarf down a few bites of the banquet laid out before he's being chartered off into discussions on foreign relations and infrastructure development. maybe once or twice does he look back to check on you, chatting pleasantly with his mother and sister at the front of the great hall, and that's satisfying enough.

that—was not something his father had ever said, he was sure, and it was a too-rare exchange between his own parents. now that he thinks about it—and he does, then, because he's faced with the reality that he doesn't know as much as he should—he's not sure the former king and queen even sleep in the same room, much less the same bed.

there's no argument he can make against it, aside from finding keigo to find his father to verify the truth to such a statement, and he's only meant to retreat from this bed on one condition.

and if this is what it takes to meet that—then shouto supposes he'll have to do it, for now. he's a brand new king, after all, and it would seem he still has much to learn.
