Oh, no! I'm loving all this info! It's so helpful!

I really like Port Bordemer, but I also really like Marina Kothière! Maybe I can have the actual settlement be Port Bordemer, but as it expands, it also moves a bit onto land, causing the pier area to become Marina Kothière? And I love the sound of Baie Zorana, too! Also... now that I think about it! I think I could easily make the Zora River an extention of the Rutala River in the Wild series! They are literally right next to each other! I could also go with Le Mignoponga for Laynayru Wetlands if that doesn't sound too terribly ridiculous? But Limnanthes is also a very cool name that feels really fitting! Maybe name a really important landmark in the village that? I can definitely work with all this!

But, yes! A combo map of Hyrule is essentially what I'm thinking of! I very much enjoy thinking about how Hyrule could look when it's allowed to flourish & part of that is building the settlements up & expanding them to feel more... immerssive!

I just keep thinking about other games where they also have settlements & some of them just feel so much more expansive! Like, Assassin's Creed had way bigger settlements with more people & the characters were almost always able parkour around in a similar way to Wild Link, but at the same time, they also utilized the loading different areas thing, which may be part of why the Wild series' settlements felt so small? Like, it's very possible that one downside to having such an open world that doesn't really utilize loadscreens for the overworld is that it has to keep more information running at once?

I'm actually of the opinion that a large number of the ruined settlements in the Wild series were likely intercultural in a way. Goponga, like I've mentioned before, would've, in my mind, originally been founded by River Zora & eventually became a Zora/Human settlement based partly on AoC! Similarly, I think that Tabantha was a Rito/Human settlement, & Shadow Hamlet a Goron/Human settlement! I've also thought up, like, 2 Gerudo/Human settlements & placed 1 in the Gerudo Region upon the Highlands in Risoka Snowfield which Patricia's guard says "rests upon the shoulders of the Eighth Heroine."

I think that I've also pinpointed a number of the locations of places in other games such as Ordon Village, Jabul Waters, the sight of the castle in Minish Cap & LttP/LBW/EoW, Snowpeak Ruins & the Hidden Village in Twilight Princess! So much!

But, I specifically think that the ones in the actual games were originally in those locations, but at the elevation of the Depths! Because I have this memory of the Deku Tree having said that the reason why he was having the Koroks plant seeds in Wind Waker was specifically with the intent to rebuild the land! And in TotK, Rock Salt is specifically noted to be "Crystallized salt from the ancient sea" & unless I'm falling into the pit of confirmation bias, I think that confirms that BotW & TotK takes place after WW, which, I believe is showcased by the map in the Forgotten Temple having more water in Rauru's era than it did in Wild & Flora's!!

I gotta tell ya. It's tough being inside this head because it almost never stops running.

And, sorry, you gotta be careful with me or you WILL activate my unskippable dialogue! 😅

Also, I just learned that the St. Lawrence River, near the US-Canadian border, is also called Fleuve Saint-Laurent! Who'd have thought!?

And oh my gosh!! I don't know if I've told you this already, but holy cow! 🤩 A River Zora said, "Welcome to the River Zora Village, where friendly hellos & the good times flow!" The reason why I'm currently losing my mind is because one of the most well-known Louisiana phrases is "let the good times roll." The meaning being a couple of things from 'it's time for people to start having fun' to 'live fully' & might also be interpreted as 'let things that are going well, proceed.' And it's sometimes spoken as, "Laissez les bons temps rouler."

So, now I'm basically just telling myself that the whole Bayou Zora idea I have is true.

Hi, sorry if this is a bit rude. 😅 I guess that I was just wondering. How would Jabul Waters, Zora Cove, & Crossflows Plaza be named in French?

I'm trying to give Jabul Waters an interesting name that works to go with my hc & I came up with "Jabuleaux." And Google Translate tells me that Crossflows Plaza would be Place des Flux Croisés. And, I'm seeing that Anse is the term to refer to a cove &, if that's true, then would Zora Cove be Zoranse? At the same time, somewhere else, it said that Anse actually means beach.

And, I believe that a town by a swamp would have cher, quier, bren, brin, or Hor- in it?

Did you check the official French translations? I had a surprisingly hard time finding the French version of the map online so here's a screenshot I took myself:

Jabul Waters = Eaux de Jabule (this one only appears when I zoom out)

Zora Cove = Baie Zora

Crossflows Plaza = Place de l'Estuaire

In case you didn't know the Zelda Wiki often lists names for places or characters in various languages in the "Nomenclature" section of its pages. It's very helpful especially if you're searching for the original Japanese names. If we look at at the different names for Crossflows Plaza we can see that a literal translation from Japanese would be something like "Exchanging Place". I checked the Jisho dictionary and it seems to be an accurate translation, though "Place for Cultural Exchanges" would be more meaningful.

It's not exactly a good name in English so it makes sense that the localization team would come up with something like Crossflows Plaza instead, which in my opinion does a very good job of stating that this is both the place where the river meets the sea and where the two Zora tribes traditionally meet each other.

Other European languages all settled for variations of "Estuary Plaza" ("Place de l'Estuaire" in French), which is fine but looses the "cultural exchanges" aspect of both the original name and the English translation.

I've been trying to come up with a French translation of "Crossflows Plaza" but it's not that easy. To me "Place des Flots Croisés" or "Place Flots-Croisés" would sound better than "Place des Flux Croisés", but I still find it a bit weird ("flot" meaning flow, tide or stream). "La Croisée des Flots" is another option if you agree to get rid of Plaza/Place (it means "the intersection/junction of streams"), but I don't think it works very well as a name.

You could also mix words to create a name the same way it was done in English, something like "Place Croiseaux" (croiser/cross + eau/waters). If any of my French speaking followers is feeling inspired, please share your ideas! :)

(I just thought of "Place Cruciflot" and found it too funny not to mention 😆 maybe it sounds too much like crucifix)

In French we also have the word "confluence" that has the exact same meaning as it does in English: either the meeting of two rivers or a gathering of some kind. So to me the most obvious translation would be something like "Place des Confluences" or maybe "Place Confluence", as it would preserve the dual meaning, but it's not very fancy or creative. Maybe we could simply change the spelling to something like Place Konfluans, the same way "Village Côtier" (Seaside Village) is spelled "Village Kothié" (Seesyde Village). But it doesn't look like a French word anymore so I'm not sure that's something you'd like.

As for Jabuleaux, it can work but I prefer the official translation "Eaux de Jabule". Same thing for Zoranse, we would say "Anse Zora" or "Anse des Zora". The official French translation is "Baie Zora" (Zora Bay), which I think is more appropriate given the size of the sea inlet (in my understanding an anse/cove is a small baie/bay and isn't very deep). I think maybe it should have been bay in English as well instead of cove, but I might be wrong! Also I believe "anse" isn't used as often as "baie" and might be confusing for most people, so I would go with "Baie Zora".

I'm not sure where you found this information about swamps and town names? I didn't find anything to confirm it but I might not have looked in the right places.

French towns are often ancient and their names can derive from other languages such as Celtic, Occitan, Flemish, or regional dialects, so that's a very difficult question and I'm not sure I can give you a satisfying answer ^^

I still did a little search and found an Old French word for swamp, "palud" or "palu", that still appears in some town names such as La Palud-sur-Verdon, Saint-Pierre-la-Palud, Lapalud, etc. (today we say "marais" or "marécage"). You might be right about "bren", it could be something like muddy in Gallic.

There's also "vign" or "mign" (from Celtic), as in Mignéville or Lévignac, or l'Île de Migneaux on the Seine river (this one's in my city!).

Near where I grew up is a town named Hazebrouck, it literally means "hare swamp" (brouck/broek = swamp in Flemish). For a bit more French flavor you could maybe use -broucq or -breucq instead of -brouck.

I think the vast majority of French people have no clue about all of that (I didn't except for the last one and it's more Flemish than French), so I'd say don't oversweat it ;)

The Useful Headcanons:

• The Wizarding World is called the Wixen World because fuck the patriarchy. (And yes, I realise both "wizard" and "witch" can be perceived as gender neutral, but typically, wizards are male, and witches are female (ugh👎))

• There are more magical schools than just eLEvEn, because as a wise man once said:

Take it from Hermione and Draco in GS,ch4:

“There’s around fifty in all of Europe,” Hermione began.

“Another fifty in Asia,” Draco carried on.

“Several in the Americas.”

“A handful of smaller schools scattered across the Pacific Islands.”

“And near a hundred in Africa.”

• Generally, wix are not homophobic, transphobic, or racist. Their prejudice problems revolve around blood and magical creatures.

Historically speaking, the Victorian era really fucked up Muggle society. And, yes, there was homophobic/racist ideology pre-Victorian era (1600s - 1700s), but by then, the magic and muggle world was already at odds with each other (Statute of Secrecy was eatablished in 1692) -- why would purebloods concern themselves with such trivial Muggle bigotry?

• Which leads me to my next worldbuilding point; Paganism. Traditional witchcraft and its influences on both the Wixen and Muggle worlds. Pureblood families are known to celebrate the Wheel of the Year -- equinoxes and solstices etc... Paganism existed before the statute and still exists into the Muggle world of course, which is how Muggles have wicca and the craft. Why Wiccan Muggles gather at Stone Henge for the summer solstice and all sorts. It just makes sense 🤌✨️

• Wolfstar. That's it. That's the whole bullet point. Just. Wolfstar.

• In Pureblood society, there is an unspoken hierarchy. The Malfoys' circle consisted of the Goyles, the Crabbes, and the Notts (and other notable Death Eater names), as well as the Parkinsons, the Greengrasses, and many other blood purist sympathisers.

Draco grew up with Greg, Vince, Pansy, Daphne, and Theo. The coming war will surely test the strength of childhood bonds...

• The divide between Draco and his father means Draco is becoming his own person as opposed to following in his father's footsteps. Draco finds himself striving to be a little more like his mother, and a lot more like himself.

The fire of rebellion flourishes inside him, but how far can he go before the flames grow out of his control?

The Not So Useful & Sort of Silly Headcanons:

• Crabbe and Goyle are not as thick as some people (*cough* Harry *cough*) perceive. Vince is a Transfiguration whizz-kid & Greg enjoys art.

• Pansy Parkinson falls in love very easily, but also very quickly moves onto her next meal -- ah, her next fixation.

• Mad-Eye Moody enjoyed a very relaxed year of his retirement from 1994 to 1995, with absolutely no home intrusions or attacks from dark wix.

• Lucius Malfoy has an unhealthy obsession with white peacocks. Especially his prized darling, Bartholomew Armand Malfoy the Third.

• Dobby has a cupboard specifically for storing all of his socks at Hogwarts.

• Professor Burbage had a groovy flower-power phase in the 70s.

• Harry sometimes finds himself talking to Draco's embroidered portrait on the Black family tapestry at Grimmauld Place.

• Erik, Nikolaj, and Katrina embark on a journey across America after graduating from Durmstrang. In their travels, they may discover many things...

In Sagau I imagined the statues of the creator to have an aura around it. Like it changes depending on their mood. so sometimes people will visit the statues to feel closer to the creator or to talk to the statue. It would be customary to visit the statues when one is really happy to share their happiness with the creator. Which would cause little bursts of happiness within the creators everyday life.

I just thought it was a sweet headcanon to share! I hope you have a good day!

idk if yall are into the ship, but the worldbuilding in this zhongli/childe fic goes so hard, and this kinda reminded me of how the author descibed genuine/"filling" offerings to the gods being like, less of a business transaction and more of a, "i got so happy seeing all the flowers i handmade a flower crown just to share it with you!" and THATS what you give a god to give them a satisfying meal

tagged by @cream-and-tea loml <3 i wanted to do this with haze dogs but haze dogs and i are fighting as usual. so why not talk about keep staring and i'll never fall asleep like i've been paying any attention to her these past few months

what is the main lesson of your story? why did you choose it?

i don't really write with a "moral" or "lesson" in mind. but i guess keep staring is one of those "hell of your own creation" stories, the plot doesn't happen to the characters in keep staring... they make the plot. they create the torment nexus. i wanted to write a greek tragedy (hence why the world is nicknamed greek tragedy! <- with the exclamation point) and thus the characters had to be the craftsmen of their bad ending. they can choose to change at any point and just... don't. because if they did then it wouldn't be a tragedy.

there is also the theme of "picking the lesser of two evils". the situation in keep staring is lose-lose. of killing one to to save many. of killing a child to save a city. i wouldn't say it's the omelas situation because tebas isn't a utopia with one bad thing about it, the city leans more dystopic... but to keep its balance lake, the dream killer child, must die.

what is your mc trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?

no <3 both of my pov characters suck and they shouldn't be inspiring anyone. all they inspire is violence and revenge.

but what are they trying to achieve?

adam: i guess at his core adam wants two things on equal measure—revenge and to be loved. he wants to inflict onto others the pain he's felt. he wants to not be discarded by others. he's screaming LOVE ME LOVE ME LOVE ME while pushing you away.

piedad: the goal that is entirely piedad's and not the narrative's is the well-being of lake, the dream killer kid. piedad is complicated because they experience time in a circle, everything that has happened has yet to happen, everything that hasn't happened has already happened. and they oscillate between flowing with the narrative and ramming against the walls of it. you could argue their goal is to let the tragedy happen.

and what am i trying to achieve? with adam i am trying my hardest to write a "bad boy" archetype who isn't cringe. a lot of adam's ✨️vibe✨️ looks like your typical male love interest in your shitty ya book so i an balancing that with his deeply interesting psyche. while piedad's main challenge is their role as the narrative/oracle, conveying the skewed way they experience the passage of time and how that affects them down to the marrow of their bones.

sunstars is also an attempt at subverting the roles of hero and villain. adam is our "hero" with deeply selfish goals he is excusing with the greater good, if no one else will pull the trigger he will. piedad is our "villain" with a selfless goal, protect a child whose only crime was being born with a power he doesn't even understand... something she can relate to. it sucks that lake is such a danger for everyone.

what did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

if you don't know the lore keep staring started as percy jackson fanfiction. it grew arms and legs and when i transferred it into an original ip it was fairly easy, as the characters had only really interacted with luke castellan instead of the main plot. from pjo i kept the existence of "gods" and "demigods", translated into "dreams (or oneiroi)" and "dreamers". but that's where the similarities stop. the oneiroi aren't the parents of the dreamers, the only thing linking them together is the simple fact that dreamers are the only "waking" creatures who can interact directly with the oneiroi. there is a strange liminal divide between the oneiroi and the waking world, they can stroll around the city but they cannot interact with it, people can see them but not approach them. dreamers can because they belong half to the sleeping world and half to the waking world (you can see here that concept of demigods being affected by both the divine and the mortal).

the raven cycle is another obvious inspiration. i read about ronan's powers when i was 16 and haven't let go since. i have been creating my own rules to differentiate maggie's dreamers from mine. examples include: my dreamthings rot away after about a week unless you are a dream thief (never rot) or a dream prophet (rot only after the vision has passed); <- as you can see there are types of dreamers in my world, the majority are run of the mill dreamers but there are some who can only dream one type of thing (like coins) or who dreamwalk instead of pulling things out of dreams, or who can kill people in their sleep; all dream creation creates "dream waste", a substance unique to each dreamer that expells out of the head's orifices (mouth, nose, eyes, ears) after pulling something out. and unlike maggie's dreamers mine can't pull full sentient people from their dreams, all copies must remain in the dreamspace.

to build the presence of the oneiroi i've used a mixture of the fears from the magnus archives and the fae folk of mabel podcast. they're not even supposed to look human. they have more in common wity the angels of neon genesis evangelion than they do with us. they're collages of things. ideas of things. they're dreams. i also wanna shout out el laberinto del fauno because its dark fairy tale vibe with deadly trials coming from the mouth of some weird entity you can't be sure if it's good or evil. and finally we have tears of the kingdom, exclusively in regards to one piece of dialogue from rauru about how the zonai made the constructs but eventually the constructs surpassed them and the zonai started learning from them... that same philosophy applies to the oneiroi. they are dreams so they were dreamed. eventually surpassing the dreamers.

hollow knight gets a shout out because of the physical presence dreams have in the dying kingdom of hallownest. the infection of the radiance and the dream killers have things in common.

i've recently started listening to i am in eskew and the sentient eldritch city is the vibe we are bringing to the function, aka the city of tebas where keep staring takes place. yes, it is named after thebes from real life but most importantly thebes of the greatest greek tragedies (the oedipus cycle). nothing but thieves' album dead club city was a canon event for keep staring. so much of the neon city vibe of this book exists because that album came out in the middle of me crafting the story.

how many chapters is your story going to have?

i usually try to plan around 23(?) chapters, which is as many beats as the three act structure has. i don't follow the three act structure rigidly or... at all. truly i just use it to help me see cause and effect. BUT keep staring is working on a back and forth where adam gets 2 chapters and then piedad gets 2 chapters, etc. so it could easily double.

is it fanfiction or original content? where do you plan to post it?

both lmao?? i don't know about posting the pjoverse online anymore because i don't want this to be recognised as "percy jackson fanfiction", or have that inform the opinion people have of the characters. and as for publishing... i am thinking indie publishing. if only because the state of traditional publishing is atrocious.

do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? what other writers do you follow?

um. remember to not lose yourself posting ✨️aesthetically pleasing✨️ excerpts that you think will attract an audience. making friends is easier than you think, remember we are all freaks on tumblr so no one is better than anyone else. making playdates for your ocs and your friends' ocs is a totally valid form of bonding. listen to your body when it's asking for a break. don't ever feel like you have to stick to just one thing, expand your horizons and write as much or as little as you want! have fun and be yourself. your readers are out there.

Your Eyes Whisper Have We Met literally has EVERYTHING you could possibly ask for in a feysand fic. @climbthemountain2020 is serving swoony regency balls and dream conversations and fun OCs and Under the Mountain suspense, she is doing it ALL, it's insane just go read it

I re-read Spirit in Disguise by @witch-and-her-witcher the other day, and it's another one of those "huh I wish someone would write this AU, OH LOOK SOMEONE DID" fics because damn do I love anything where Feyre meets Rhys before he's High Lord, and all the worldbuilding and the way the plot just dovetails to seamlessly with the main Nessian fic it branches off from are so, so good

Hot for Teacher by @beesays goes SO HARD on the school setting, it's just delightful. The emails, the gossip, Feyre handing Superintendent Rhys his ass in front of everyone, it's like Abbott Elementary but better and also Feysand

There are a ton I'm probably forgetting, but I'm so bad about actually bookmarking things so I'll stop here so my night doesn't devolve into tracking down fics I only remember the plot of but not the title or the author!

Awww thanks a lot. <3 I understand, so I can tell his main idea: Whalers base idea was a "spririt companion" 'cause while playing Sky (me doin it solo mostly) I feel myself pretty alone, so I thought about the situation, when skykid don't want to play or talk, just wanting sit somewhere near and "just be a part of", and then becomes the idea of ancient fishing-hunting ship. I love to think about :moving spawn point", such as the Home location, but it's a ship, and each time you come to the game, you are meeting new location and if you have no one online, Whaler just say you "Oi there, pal! U've arive!" I have big problems with communication (u can see it I guess). So..... The Whaler is an idea of having an NPC\friend companion. Not just staying only on the Home location but moving each time to the new place or moving with you, while you're flying somewhere over the ship. Also, his name in living is Cy. haha

You mentioned that there were fairies in your rewrite. I don't know if you have shown it already or talked about this, but what do the fairies look like?

OMG YESS I CAN FINALLY TALK ABOUT THEM

Well for starters, they do not look like the fairies in the TinkerBell series, as much as I love the series in general (the one with the pirate was my favorite one)

More so they look like the pixies from Harry Potter, mixed in with some elemental feel and "wtf is in my garbage" type of thing.

Something to note is that these guys look the way they are because from where they come from is somewhat unnatural (giant bug ahh eyes). Also I have to say this is a very old version I did of the fairies back when I was beginning my world building for the au. So this is somewhat inaccurate but also isn't? I might have to design a actual sheet sooner or later since they would probably appear often.

(Plus is was back when I was reworking the backstory of Magnus and Agatha lmao)

They're born from the left over star dust that "falling stars" occasionally drop when they pass through earth combined with a child's first laughter (as in the original series of Tinkerbell but I'm not entirely sure if that part will be kept in).

Because Fallen Star's true forms are more so "eldritch", I felt like it makes more sense if fairies that are pretty much a close descendant of them to exhibit weird and unnatural features. What makes it even funnier is that their life goal is to prank anyone until their light gives out.

Although they are a nuance to society, aka pranking you by making your crops to eat each other, harass you for a hour, locking doors, pulling your hair, stealing your things (especially shiny things), they are quite beneficial.

For starters, they can be harvested of their stardust (which kills them, but also squishing them like a bug also works too) to make certain potions or elixirs (depending on how many you harvested). This is quite important in the medical field for healing potions can heal internalized wounds that magic cannot reach (magic healing can only heal external wounds not internal ones). Not only that, anywhere they live, life around them often flourishes no matter how much destruction they would like to cause (since as they fly they just drop some star dust on the way. Like .0000001 milliliter of star dust lol...probably sigh)

Something that is more so dangerous about them is a whole group of them. If you wander to long in a forest and fall into a Fairy Coven, good luck surviving. Its practically like the Saw series for anyone who dares/accidently enters one.

Information on these creatures to anyone in my au is pretty well documented due to how many there is, especially how to deal with them, like placing Fairy trappers near your crops since they somewhat act like fly trappers, but for fairies for example. Plus where fairy covens are and how to avoid them. There isn't much information though on the fairy covens since so few actually do survive them. Agatha often has Asha, as apart of the apprentice ship, has Asha having to wander into the nearby forest (or maybe it is a garden idk yet) to either grab fairies or other potion related ingredients for restocking purposes, so she would often run into them...which is a annoying thing to encounter.

(Which is why she keeps ALL JEWELRY FOR ONLY WHEN SHE IS INSIDE, SHE AINT LETTING THEM TRY TO RIP THEM OFF WHEN DOING APPRENTICE DUTIES)

Also for more reference for how they act, take Tinkerbell when she is angry, but up it to 11, on steroids, and make her high. Then you get whatever is going on with the fairies here.

Although for appearance and how they are born is something I'm not entirely sure on, I am most defiantly set on how they work within the world they are set in and the purpose they serve for other people, for better or for worse.

The true reason people came to Rosas...they hate fairies:

Fairies are a thing, Dragons are a thing, sirens are a thing. Like those are the main 3 that will stay cannon (just that population wise, Fairies are more higher as dragons and sirens are fairly uncommon which btw fairies do tend to avoid them unless they have something they want. Fairies also avoid Rosas since Agatha uses them for potion making quite often soo better not stay where you can be killed yk?)

Hi, love your pokemon designs reviews. As someone who's learning about character design they're pretty helpful. Have you reviewed Staryu's line? If not, I would to hear what you have to say about them ✨️🫧

The Staryu line is one of the strangest in all of Pokemon, for one reason: it doesn't have a face. All non-UB Pokemon have some kind of facial feature—eyes, mouth, nose, ears, whatever. But Staryu? All it is a starfish with a red gem (known as a core). It is a very weird and very alien design. Fittingly, the 'dex does imply the line is from space a few times ala Clefairy (making it a literal "star"fish):

I always felt there was a missed opportunity in not establishing it as an Ultra Beast when that concept was introduced. UBs are the only other Pokemon that sometimes don't have faces, the line's already connected to (ultra) space, and it would be a really interesting bit of worldbuilding.

Anyway, all that aside, Staryu is pretty decent. It's an incredibly simple design, but sheer weirdness does make it stand out. The bright red gem draws attention straight to the core, with the yellow line making it pop even more.

My one big issue with Staryu is the unevenness of the yellow part—it should have five raised areas aligned to either the point of the limbs or the inside indent. Instead, it has six, just enough to unbalance the radial symmetry. Even more bothersome is that it has two random straps on its side and literally no where else. Do it everywhere or do it nowhere, but keep it consistent!

Thankfully, Starmie fixes all my issues with Staryu. It keeps all the unique things about it and simply expands on them by changing the shape of the core and adding a second set of arms.

However, it also makes a bunch of improvements. The purple color goes very well with the red and yellow, and helps make the design be all the more vibrant. The hexagonal shape feels better than the circle due to the radial symmetry, which is better reflected in the yellow ridges (still not quite the right amount of those, but much closer, and it no longer has those annoying two extra long bands). So overall, pretty solid.

While the line is fine as-is, I do think there's a lot of opportunity to either add an evolution or some kind of new mega-esq form in the future. Starmie's design is actually still pretty simple when you break it down, so it's very easy to think of ways to expand and build upon it. Meet Skyline's teammates and learn more about her job as a member of the New High Guard, an elite team established by Sentinel Prime to replace the original after their mysterious disappearance.

Currently 7 out of 11 members have been named (and I still have to figure out what to do with Whiplash). Leaving the rest open to interpretation for now, may or may not add them if inspiration ever strikes me.

Hoping to get some art in the future but drawing mecha is not one of my strengths.

Very very open to perhaps receiving some asks etc about these guys to help develop them further! I've been meaning to put some thoughts into the NHG for a while. Of course Skyline has her own friends, she doesn't just hang out with miners all day! I would love to get to yap about them. Maybe about Freefall my beautiful sweet boy. loved the atmosphere and the beginning and end were entertaining. middle slogged a bit and i found myself a bit uninterested. i do think clarification was needed on the sun moon and star part as well as just more refinement in the world building as it was missing any sort of context or reasoning. i do plan to continue the series at this moment

dragonfruit by makiia lucier - 4.5✨️

this was an easy read, the world was drenched in folklore and myth, and it was decently straightforward in plot but still able to keep my interest. the story was simplistic but still held water with nuanced conversations of culture, greed and conservation. to some i could see it reading a bit young, but i personally loved it.

untethered sky by fonda lee - 5✨️

i was blown away by this novella and how much power was packed into its pages. the prose and storytelling was enchanting, as well as the rocs of course. i felt true emotion for the characters and their troubles and flipped through this with hardly a breath in-between. while i would never complain about a full series in this world, this is a book that was truly made for the novella format.

the voyage of the basilisk by marie brennan - 4.5✨️

starting out slower, this installment quickly got faster and full of action. we see so much more on dragon biology and taxonomy, and even a piece of dragon embryos. i was also shocked to see conversations about gender and sexuality woven into one of the storylines. this light academia series is one for the books (hah.) and this is currently my fav in the saga.

i really wanted to adore this but i found it to be jumbled. the story starts in the wrong place, firstly. to me, this would have been much better if this was a sequel to another book explaining the coup and past war. we are mostly told not shown the effects of this war on our characters, sprinkling in some small flashbacks but it truly didn't show the actual emotional turmoil we were expected to feel. it felt like reading the end of a book before the beginning. the last 100 or so pages were great and held my interest, i just wished the rest did as well.

i really loved the dual timelines in this and the character work was exceptional. my only vice was worldbuilding. it was very hard to picture this world and what it looked like, i personally think it would benefit greatly from a map and some more refining in the world section of things. certain parts are very well defined, but overall the image was quite hazy.

It's 4th of January, I am still away and that's what's been keeping me from doing a 2025 goals list, but I'd love to finally do it.

In 2025:

🐍 I want to buy a hanging calendar (monthly) and put it over my desk. Writing monthly goals with deadlines works wonders for me, and I want to be able to see them at all time.

🐍 I want to get rid of my old notebooks from Uni, and buy a beautiful one, to keep my writing notes and ideas in, so I would have it all in one place while writing on my computer. Because now I have some in my phone notes, in google docs, on pinterest, in old notebook that is not aesthetically pleasing and full of ripped pages, etc. This technique worked well when I was writing my master's thesis.

🐍 I want to have at least as good of writing year as I did in 2024 (my best year writing-wise [propably ever]). I hope my calendar will help me with this.

🐍 I want to read more books that'll keep me inspired (remember how reading Lockwood and Co kick-started my 2024 writing? That was incredible feeling 😭). I just want inspiration ✨️ I love how new worldbuilding ideas are coming to me, I love this so much, I just need to figure out the plot, cause it's not going where I wanted it to and I need to get back on track, without going back and rewriting 10th chapter again (since there isn't much to change, just like, four lines, but I like them and that's the problem).

🐍 Honestly? I don't want a busy year. I barely noticed and celebrated 2024, I felt disconnected to it, to the natural cycle. I want less work related travels. I want to spend more time with family and friends - so more home related travels (2024 was lacking in that department) and I want to be able to have free weekends in the summer to go for swimming and go for walks, and ride a bike 🌊🚴‍♂️🚶🏼‍♀️

🐍 I want to have summer vacation abroad with my bf (we never had a chance to go abroad together). If this LONG stay in his home village taught me anything, it's that I hate leaving home for too long. So I guess a 5 days vacation will be the best option. Maybe a city break? Cause I like those the most.

🐍 I want to go ice skating (with my bf, because WE NEVER DID IT TOGETHER, which is insane to me, because in my hometown there was an ice skate rink, and I was skating with everyone all the time. And we have been together for almost 6 years, and never went ice skating!!! 😱 [because in the city where we live, ice skate rink is expensive and used to have crazy skating times, and you had to book them and it was a whole thing, and I was pissed off at this. Thank God they changed it]).

🐍 I would love to go skiing! I have been skiing since I was 10, mostly because my hometown is near mountains, and now, my beloved city is far away from everything (!!!!!), so a mountain trip would have to take a whole weekend. But I (after almost 6 years, good Lord 🙈) found out, that in my bf's home region there is ONE (1) ski slope and this is the closest one --- wait I just checked it in google, and IT'S NOT THE ONLY ONE, I AM PISSED. But tbh, even If I knew about it before, we didn't have a car, so we wouldn't be able to go skiing either way. Owning a car does wonders. Too bad we didn't have the time to use it too much (for fun things) in 2024. I WANT TO GO SKI!!! (I also want to take my bf, because he never went skiing, and I think he will propably hate it, because he has knees issues, but I would love for him to at least try/be with me).

🐍 We will start the process of apartment hunting, so by the end of the 2025, I would want to have at least a clear situation - will we be buying off the one we are currently renting, or will we be buying something new? Some verbal agreements with the potential seller would be nice.

🐍 I wish to get engaged this year 🙈🙉 I am not getting any younger, and I am the type of girl who needs to be married to have children. And I would like to have a child sometime around 30.

🐍 Last but not least, I need to start going to the gym. I have a sitting lifestyle and it took a toll on my health and condition. I want to start running and gain some muscle, because I am the weakest bitch you know. I tried running outside, but it's just not for me. I used to go to the gym when I was a teenager and I liked running on the threadmill (also my friend inspired me, she only goes to the gym for the threadmill, and for some reason I thought you can't do that 😅). Also, I want to start going to the pool. Same thing as the ice skating - used to go very often, but now in my city there aren't a lot of cheap, city pools, and most of those are on the other side of the town. Once again the car will help me move around the city more quickly.

🐍 OH! Also I forgot - I need to take care of my guitar. I haven't played it in around 2 years, and it sits sad in the corner. My resolution is to play it at least a little this year. Maybe replace the strings, because they have ~10 years 😅 Maybe buy a guitar stand. If it's out of the case, it would take less effort to take it and play 😅

I think that's it? It seems like a lot, but many of those will be accomplished right when I'm back home (ice skating, calendar buying, notebook). And most of those are just a lifestyle plans. I want to take things slowly, appreciate the cycle of the year and the nature. Spent more time outside and have more free weekends to do fun shit.

-> A bonus wish would be to go camping once this summer, but that might be a difficult to accomplish, since we don't own a tent (and I'm not sure if anyone we know owns one).
