pretty good all things considered! while they're both married to two sweet guys and have separate families (none of their kids are other td characters, unfortunately...) they're still really close, and still live next to each other at that same beach town they grew up in, now both running that successful 80s themed ice cream business they've been dreaming of! its safe to say they probably suffered the least on Total Drama, only leaving with a couple of minor scars, good god were they lucky..

Please enjoy a very brief backstory for Max and Daniel in run club au

Max is twenty when Italian summer rain brings him Daniel.

One minute, the weather looks totally normal. The next, Max is ducking into the nearest tourist trap restaurant. He’s desperately scanning for an open table when tan hands and long fingers catch the edge of his rain-soaked shirt and stop him in his sloshing footsteps.

“You can sit with me,” the man offers. He’s a bit taller than Max, but leaner, a little less broad in the shoulders. His hair is cropped close on the sides with too many unruly curls left on the top. The way he’s beaming at Max makes him briefly consider that maybe it’s raining because the sun left the sky and took up residence in this boy’s smile.

The hot guy — Daniel, Max learns, after thirty minutes of the kind of laughing that makes them forget they don’t already know each other’s names and families and bodies — is 28. He’s having a mid-life crisis, according to him, and waves away Max’s objections that it’s a quarter-life crisis.

“I was never very good at maths, or school in general,” Daniel shrugs, then takes a long sip of Max’s mostly untouched Aperol Spritz. “That’s how you end up backpacking through Europe at my big age instead of being a genius uni student like you.”

Max tries his drink again. Somehow, it tastes less bitter after Daniel’s lips have lavished the straw. “I’m barely passing,” he corrects.

Daniel is refreshingly unbothered by Max's admission. All these little points of tension in Max’s life, the things that raise his ears next to his shoulders — Daniel doesn’t judge one of them. He only seems to care that Max wants to listen to his stories, and in turn, he listens to Max’s right back. He asks questions that make it obvious he’s paying real attention, and he waits for the answers with alert eyes and a chin propped in his hand.

Max’s white shirt is no longer see-through and his socks have crusted into something stiff but dry by the time he and Daniel stumble out, half-drunk off alcohol and fully drunk off each other, into the warm air.

carnis au accidental [???] but i was thinking about mimic luffy wanting to get closer and closer to law, and i'd been thinking since i've made the au about how he'd want to see law's scars (already various scenes on how it could happen, written notes and all, don't know which to pick), and then the fact that he knows there's something carnis still in him.

so i was thinking of another scene where he's inspecting the scars on his face and they both very close but it's not the scars he's really looking at, he's searching for that carnis leftover and says maybe mostly to himself "It's still inside you. That's just so unfair. Why, just why couldn't it have been me?"

And jokingly is thought: This is it folks, I broke the code, this is about bottom dysphoria!

But then! I thought again, the au is about feeling otherized, isolated and monstrous and wrong. i've already strongly considered the idea of luffy's death as a suicide metaphor. the mimic has been thinking about socially detransitioning because it keeps getting accosted by creeps and assholes and knows that luffy would've fought back most of the time but also knows it's much stronger now and doesn't want to get caught, he needs to lays low, it doesn't want to cause a scene, it has to go stealth.

law hates the idea because it's not enough that it killed luffy now it has to just go and erase that important part of him of as well but the mimic insist, he's still a man, he'll just fake being a girl to make it easier. but law doesn't understand because to him the mimic is faking being a man, it's faking being a person, it's faking being luffy.

the reason the mimic wants to lay low is because it doesn't want to get caught so it can stay with law and study him, understand him. law doesn't knows that, he's too freaked out by the fact that's it's a mimic! that it killed luffy and might possibly want to kill him too! but the mimic feels a kind of kinship with law because of that remaining carnis in him.

remains he got from nearly dying, from losing his family, from an attack to another carnis. and i thought, law is meant to be reminiscent of mimics. he had to regrow his face, he's (as always) autistic and doesn't always act as expected, he's also paranoid even when he happens to be right, he's traumatized to the point of psychosis, the encounter changed him. it was meant as a parallel to how ppl like to think murderers&co are all mentally ill because they can't possibly be Normal Like Them, they must be different, they must not be human, they're obviously monsters. but those victims, those who get to survive, the trauma change them, they can acquire all sort of neurodivergences, and when those same Normal People learn that a person has some kind of The Scary Disorder they think "Oh, you're a monster too! You'll (inevitably) hurt someone!" which lead back to being otherized ect.

there's also something about how law didn't just get scars from his near death experience but also what's essentially a disease.

and then back to the mimic, who recognize itself in him, in that disease, but it isn't quite right, it's not enough and it's also nothing alike at all and also he's kind of jealous? it makes no sense to the mimic itself but he can't stop thinking about law either.

it's also how a monster that's linked to what is theorized to be something close to a hivemind accidentally developing a sense of identity and facing some sort of existential crisis over the fact that it can't ever escape it's monstrous nature and doesn't want to either. and that sound like, very much like being trans and cracking your egg and realizing you're fucked cause that sure is knowledge to have about oneself and also it's in the fictional 90s of a op carnis au so good luck with that.

anyway that's a lot of words and im not sure how to phrase the rest it's just, this was supposed to be a casual au where i went "OHOHO look at the Tragedy" but i thought about it too long and now i feel like i've ended up with a millefeuilles of overlaying themes and im, i means sure. can't draw All that tho so what now.

- has gone to medical school and has a doctorate but still only works as a nurse because having the responsibilities of a full doctor is/was too stressful for him

- as said in another post he's probably both a smoker and a soda drinker so you are likely to encounter him at a gas station getting his Malboro Reds and a big gulp

- if you acknowledge his cigs and soda pop he will get embarrassed. He won't say anything about it though. But he is definitely embarrassed someone acknowledged his unhealthy habits

- probably one of those people who get to work early only to sit in his car for like an hour doing nothing but listening to his 10 year old cd of pirated music while staring off into the distance looking half dead

- lives in a shitty apartment. It is probably in a constant state of clutter

- big slip on shoes enjoyer. Crocs, flip flops, sandals, water shoes

- knows how to cook, but never does. Usually just orders takeout

- his car is a shitty rental and both he and the rental company forgot it is

- never uses profile pictures on social media and keeps the default ones except for dating profiles. His pictures in those are probably look like how your ID photos look

- polo shirt and khaki combo is every day babyyyy (except in winter. Then it's long khakis and sweaters)

- chronic energy drink haver (he usually drinks redbull)

- tends to buy cheap no matter what he gets

- most of his body sprays are definitely along the lines of "something that smells like an old man would wear"

- has a laptop he uses that's older than the current generation of children that is held together with tape, hot glue, and a dream

That's all for now. As you can tell I'm a big fan of acknowledging that he's kind of a loser. It makes him endearing👍

Fuck whatever DC is doing with the al Ghul's characterizations and story lines, I've decided that from now on the al Ghul's are gonna be DC's version of the Addams Family instead.

Now I don't mean just give the various al Ghul's the exact personalities of the various Addams and call it a day. That's boring, that erases all the interesting parts of the al Ghuls, that's just using "find & replace" and not actually adding anything. I mean give them the vibes of the Addams Family.

Keep the al Ghul's as the al Ghul's with all their scheming and machinations and world domination attempts but give them all the unhinged energy, the casually insane view of the world, the deranged levels of love and devotion for family. Make them that group where objectively they are batshit insane but also you cannot argue with the fact that they are indisputably the most stable and functional family in the entire universe.

They're creepy, they're kooky, they're mysterious and spooky. Ra's many opulent homes and impenetrable fortresses are a museum and the al Ghul's really are a screa-um whenever people come to see-um (or when they lay waste upon their enemies in a surprise attack that has been planned for months and is just the first domino in a series that will ultimately lead to achieving a far greater goal).

They all love each other and want each other to be happy, they express this primarily with stabbing and murder attempts (its fine, death is a thing that happens to other people).

And forget the League of Assassins being a cult. Just make the whole vast globe spanning organization a collection of cousins/aunts/uncles/dear old friends ect. No one (not even the al Ghuls, if they cared to keep track of such things) is sure who is actually related to them and who just got absorbed into the ever expanding family tree based on their vibes being right.

(Is Sensei Ra's father you ask? Well he's certainly someone's father - probably.

Anyway have you heard about Cousin Cheshire? Despicable poisoner of a young woman, capable of the most horrific things imaginable - yes she is the sweetest dear. Like I was saying though, she just had a baby!

Everyone in the family is just so excited to throw a baby shower to celebrate! Ubu has really gone all out with the spike traps, he does so love getting to welcome a new addition to the family.

Talia of course has cultivated a brand new strain of the most toxic plants imaginable to make a brand new kind of necrotizing poison. You know, as a nice little romantic gift for Cousin Cheshire and that young man of hers. It really is so important to make sure you take time for you and your partner to go on dates and have a few pitched battles to the death on dark rooftops in the pounding rain when you have children.

Now there is some to-do about it all of course, you know how family get together can be. Everyone is arguing over who should get to give little Lian her first weapon and what it should be. Nyssa is pushing for grenades but Ra's is insisting on a sword - he's traditional like that you know - but Dusan has the vote so far on throwing knives. You know the kind that have the little divots along the edges of the blades them to make it easier to get the poison you dip them in to stick.)

I'm just saying that the al Ghuls should be a delightful cross between the Bond Villains they were originally conceived as and the lovingly unhinged Addams Family. It just feels correct in my heart.

(Again keep the interesting aspects of the characters and the nuances of who each of them are like their drive to save the world through destroying humanity and their strong environmentalist leanings and their constantly playing 5D chess and everything, but like, take away the racism and the cartoonishly evil for no reason bullshit and give them some fun feral energy to go along with it).
