#I feel like Victoria from twilight
Text
Updated Ghoul Designs:
Tumblr media
Just the concept busts and Dew's "wings" for now, because I don't have the spoons to work on bodies right now.
I made Cumulus and Cirrus more "creature vibes" like Mountain currently has, except with feathers instead of fur, and did kind of the same with Dew.
I know Aeon's the resident bat boy for most folks, but I present the concept of bat enthusiast Aeon vs. Dew the bat... man... whom Aeon keeps trying to get Dew to make his little clicky chirp sounds and show him his teeth.
Rain's pretty much the same as before, but I changed his design more recently, so I didn't feel like it needed much more tweaking.
Also giving Dew curly hair was a choice, and now I'm imagining him as a red head... which with the bat thing is unfortunately giving Victoria from the Twilight saga, but alas we persist.

Tumblr media
Victoria always craved you more in the night and you always let her have you.
The two of you started in a platonic state, with her feeding on you in the twilight hours. She grew obsessed with your taste and smell, which prompted her to become curious about other places on you that might taste as sweet.
                                 ******
Tonight was just like any other night between you too, she has you cradled in her arms as you let her drink sweetly from the nape of your neck while she played with you from below. Dripping onto her crimson-painted nails, soaking her fingers as she teases you. Rubbing her thumb slowly but firmly on your raised clit, her own pussy clenches around nothing hearing you whine while she’s tasting you.
“Fuck” you whine out, she pulls back from your neck to watch your face twist in pleasure. Her fangs still out and stained in a cherry red color from you, a thin leak dribbles down her chin which she slowly picks up with her other thumb before licking it up with her thumb.
Not wasting a drip.
“Tell me what you want baby” she whispers against you.
“More - please..” she pleads
Victoria wastes no time in applying more pressure and speed on your desperate cunt, messily drawing circles, and spreading your mess around. “What do you say?”.
“Thank you - so - much” you hitch out, you loved it when she took a more dominant role. She pulls her hands out from your green panties to look at your slick on her fingers before putting those same hands in hers, rubbing your slick with hers.
You watch in awe as she hastily gets off with your wetness, you can’t recall the last time you’ve been this turned on.
She cums with a blow, reeling her head back in pleasure following with the gentle shake of her legs. Vic doesn’t need a second to calm down before turning her wicked attention back to you and your needs, her eyes dark with lust as the dark shifting black veins under her eyes start to pop up again.
She’s still hungry, hungry for you.
She pushes you flat on your back, ripping your panties down your legs and prying your warm legs apart so she can get a good look at what’s hers. She makes her way slowly down your legs, taking in the warm scent before diving in – sucking lighting. She leaves a trail of shallow bite marks down your legs before licking a bold strip up your cunt, her strong tongue toying with your throbbing clit, at an achingly slow pace. You lean on your elbows to watch her work, your blurry eyes meeting her dark hunting eyes. You scrunch your eyebrows together in tender enjoyment, growing more wet (if that’s even possible) at the slow pleasure she’s giving you.
She could easily overpower you in every way, yet she is so careful and sure with the way she moves with you.
Vic cuts the slow pace and begins to really give it to you, licking and slurping on your purposely overstimulated clit. You try and push away but she just grabs onto your bruised thigh even harder, holding you in place.
“Fuck - so, so sensitive baby slow down” you beg, feeling yourself beginning to tip off the edge. She ignores your cries and teases her index finger at your tight, tight hole. She was pushing in to meet your warmth before pulling out to add her second finger, stretching you out so slowly. She pulls her mouth off your sopping cunt and spreads your legs wider, wanting to get a better look at her fingers lazily fucking you.
She becomes entranced at the sight, of your glistening pussy tightening around her digits. Your clit twitched slightly at her agonizingly slow pace, you push your head back onto the pillow as if it was gonna swallow you whole. Vic lays her head on your left thigh taking in the slushing sound of your drooling pussy being slowly filled and fucked, she needs more. Speeding her pace up, watching her fingers disappear inside you at an intense rate. Your moans become mute with your mouth hung open and your eyes tightly shut, your knuckles white from one hand gripping the sheet while the other hand pinches your left tit hard. Rolling and twisting your index finger and thumb around the hard bud.
You’re so close to cumming it hurts, “I’m gonna, I’m gonna cum” you cry out. You’re shocked to hear your own voice so desperate. She finger fucks you faster, curling your fingers deepening. Attaching her mouth back on your cunt. She can feel your tight hole squeezing her fingers and she knows you’re close, she hums against you as she humps the bed in her own frenzied pleasure.
“FUCK, FUCK I’M–” You’re cut off from your own pleasure as you begin to cum hard, no. You begin to cum so hard that you realize you’re squirting on your partner's face and she just takes it. She continues to slurp and finger you through this new height of pleasure, your hips leave the bed for a few seconds from sensitivity – which still doesn’t stop her from eating you out. She forces your hips back on the bed and she brings herself closer to cumming, her underwear for sure slick with a wet patch at the sight of her making you squirt so hard. Your juices are dripping on her hands, her face, and her mouth.
Your gripping hand leaves the sheets and buries itself tightly in her hair, pulling on her roots. “Please baby” you cry out, begging her to release you. Your cunt still spasming in hot pleasure, a thin layer of sweat beads in your hairline. She’s never taken you this far before, you can feel yourself slipping into a form of subspace due to her actions. You hump her face in tired desperation, your long-playing orgasm beginning to hurt a little in a good way. Her hips continue to snap against the mattress frantically so, so, sooo close to cumming so fucking hard, “Fuck baby I’m cumming too, I’m – I’m right there” she moans into a mumbly cry, still partially buried in your drenched pussy.
“Cumming, I’m cumming, cumming, I’m cumming, I’m” she relentlessly mumbles lazily, her eyes beginning to roll back and her clit and lower stomach roar with warm heat. Her mouth went slack, turning her body into sloppy jello.
“FUCK” she lets out one last cry before going slump against you.
      ******
You both lay quietly for a few moments before putting on new sheets and sharing a warm bath, Victoria just can’t help but feel heavy with what the future holds for the both of you. Or lack of.
A/n: idk if this is tmi but I got so *** writing this omggggggggggggg
Something big is coming soooooooooon :)

Word Count: 4,800
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You look up, ready to help the most recent customer who walked in; only to find the one person you didn’t. You hold back the urge to roll your eyes. “How can I help you, sir?”
“I’m not here to ask.”
“Then why are you here,” you hiss at him.
"I'm just... checking on you.”
“Checking on me? Did you check on me when my dad died or when my mom left and died in the accident because as I recall, Uley, you didn’t. So, I’m going to kindly ask that you get whatever you need and leave.”
“Have we really come to this?”
“Yes,” you nod, grabbing the next order and setting it in front of one of your regulars before walking back to him. “Ever since you all… changed, things have been tense."
"Why are you here?”
“You know why.”
“No one-"
“You have no idea what anyone thinks or the looks they give me.” You take a deep breath, trying not to let him know how much it affects you. “I just- I want it to stop. Im tired of them all staring at me like I’m a monster. As if this isn’t enough,” you mumble the last part under your breath.
His shoulders sag, not realizing anything that’s going on in your life. “You should come by the res tomorrow.”
Before you can try and argue with him as he rearranges the bags so he can have a better grip on them.
“No one but Em and I will be there.”
“They’re going to know I was there.”
“They won’t know it was you specifically and besides, I’m their alpha.”
“Way to use your title for your own gain.”
“It got you to smile. Thanks for the food.”
-
You shake your head, knowing it’s a bad idea even though you’re sitting in their makeshift driveway.
Sam’s warmth emanates through the door. “You coming in?”
“You gonna put on a shirt.”
“I will if you come in.”
“That sounds like blackmail.”
“Just-”
“Sam, quit standing in front of her door. She can’t get out if you’re just standing there.”
“Yeah, Sam.”
He narrows his eyes and steps back. “You really want to make fun of the alpha?”
“Yeah, I really do.”
“Alright, you two.”
You snicker when the man beside you lowers his head, looking like a sad puppy.
“It’s nice to see you again. How are you?”
You shrug, officially feeling more awkward than ever.
“You can talk to us, you know. We always cared about you.”
“That’s nice of you to say, Emily. But I don’t think anyone in town would agree with you.”
“Good thing I’m not like everyone else.”
You lower your head as the scent of one of her infamous muffins hits your sensitive nose.
“I’m sure you’re hungry after being up for a while.”
You shrug.
“So, what brings you here?”
“Your heater came into the diner, again and basically begged me to come over.”
Sam rolls his eyes. “You’re one to talk.”
“Why do you think I’m in layers?”
“A sign of self-torture.”
“Sam-”
“I can’t pretend that they’re not hiding themselves from the world after everything that’s happened.”
“Thanks for never changing and I’ll take that as my cue to leave.” You move to get off the stool.
“No, you’re not. Sam, stop bringing up things they’re not ready to talk about.”
“Fine.”
She hands you a mug of hot cocoa, knowing it’s your favorite to have around the holidays.
“What… do you guys know?” You tap the rim of the mug, watching the steam disappear.
“Only that you shifted,” he answers after the couple share a look with one another.
“Everyone thinks I shifted in the car, right?”
“Not everyone.”
“What do you think happened?” You ask, lifting your head.
"A cold one was nearby.”
You nod, “yeah. She,” you shake your head, feeling your body start to shake.
"You don’t have to talk about it.”
You give her a soft smile.
“She decided to leave because it was too much and left me a note, not even bothering to apologize and it- it pissed me off. I shifted and then ran after her, only to find one of them going after her and… took care of it.”
“You weren’t in the car?”
You shake your head, wiping your cheeks. "No."
"Why does everyone think you were?”
“I pulled her out and-” You cover your face.
“Do you remember who it was?”
“It was some redhead, I think. She definitely wasn’t happy with me.”
“What do you mean?”
You shrug, not wanting to worry them.
After talking for a few hours, you know it’s time to leave.
“What? No," Emily whines.
"Em, they don’t like me, and I’d rather not be glared at while you try and take care of everyone.”
“I still don’t want you to leave.”
“I do.” You grab your stuff and grab your bag before pausing. “Thank you for listening.”
“Always,” the woman smiles. “We’ll see you again, okay.”
-
You kept in touch but didn’t go back to their home for a while, not until you were dragged back by Sam but we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves.
-
You knew what was happening and watched from a distance, never letting the cold ones or the other wolves know of your presence.
The alpha was the only one who knew you were there.
You didn’t tell him you’d be nearby in case they needed an extra body because they thought you were a murderer.
A couple of the newborns sneaked into the woods to try and escape but never got far enough with you there.
Body parts were flying around so no one questioned anything when more came their way.
Then you turned around and noticed one of them aiming for Leah, before Jake could even try to intervene, you did; barely batting an eye when they stared in your direction.
You shoved her out of the way and took care of the newborn before anyone could get hurt, shocking everyone but Sam, who grabbed your arm and pulled you to the side. “What was that?”
“I saved someone from your pack before they could get hurt, what’s it look like?”
“Don’t take that attitude with me.”
“Try and control me, watch what happens.”
He growls your name.
“I needed this.”
The mind reader is beside you two, trying to calm everyone down. “She’s the reason, isn’t she?”
You glance at him from the corner of your eye. “Yeah, so this felt like I could save someone and get my own revenge.”
“She, did it?”
You scoff, snatching your arm out of his grasp. “Don’t act like you didn’t know. You knew the moment I told you.”
He tries to defend himself but you’re not having any of it. “I ask one thing of you, vegetarian.”
He raises his brow.
“I lite her.” You pull up your sleeve, he notices the bite on your arm but doesn’t comment on it (yet).
You take the torch from the blonde and stare into the red head’s eyes for a second, “hopefully you’re not tortured too bad in hell.”
You glance at the other cold ones and raise a brow. “If you guys die, you’re definitely not going where that bitch is. You know better and have worked on redeeming yourselves.”
They glance at one another, not expecting you to hear that.
You rip your sleeves and make a quick wrap for the human. “Wrap this around your arm, it should help until you can get the proper bandaging."
She blinks owlishly, “oh- uh- thanks?”
“Don’t mention it.”
-
“Who do you think you are?” She gets in your face.
“You better move before you do something you’re going to regret, Leah.”
“Oh, yeah. That’s rich coming from the murderer.”
You scoff through your nose and grab her by the collar of her shirt, her eyes widen not expecting this to get physical but doesn’t back down. “Say that again when I’m the one who saved your ass. You have no idea what happened that day, so you need to shut your mouth.”
Sam stands behind you, waiting to see what happens because he knows that you know better than to fight someone.
“Keep your pack in check, Uley.”
“Where are you going?”
“Somewhere I won’t get pissed off.”
-
You start to head into the woods when the mind reader stands in front of you.
“Did she do that?”
You don’t need to look down to figure out what he’s talking about. “That’s why neither you nor the others can smell me. I hide it.”
“They don’t know, do they?”
“Not about this, only Sam and his girl know about the red head's involvement. I only shared so you’d know.”
“That was kind of you to share even when you didn’t need to.”
“Yeah, I get it. I’m frickin’ amazing, can I go now?”
He steps aside. “You should stay with them.”
“How can I do that when they don’t trust me?”
“Make them.”
“It’s not easy, Cullen.”
“If you can do it with their alpha, you can tell the others.”
You roll your eyes, “get your girl checked out before she gets an infection.”
He heads back over towards Bella.
-
“Did you see her arms?” The human asks.
He nods. “They don’t know.”
“Know what?”
“Of Victoria’s involvement in the worst day of her life.”
Esme and Jasper’s shoulders sag, unable to imagine what you went through.
“And it’s still alive?” Rosalie chimes in.
“She'll become hybrid.”
The Cullens raise their brows.
-
Sam orders everyone to go back to Emily’s and hopes you do the same after seeing your arms.
You roll your eyes and answer his call. “Unavailable, please leave a message after I hang up."
“Cute, get to Emily’s.”
“You can’t make me.”
You can hear the couple arguing over who should be the one to talk to you.
“Please come over. We have a lot to talk about.”
You sigh, “do they still think I did it?"
"You can change their minds.”
“That’s so much work,” you groan.
“Please. I haven’t seen you in a few weeks and I know you barely know your way around a kitchen.”
“I’m better than you think.”
-
You stand on the porch, knowing it's going to be hell the moment you step inside.
“You’re going to put a hole in their porch the longer you stay out there,” Paul jokes, earning a chuckle from almost all of his pack mates.
You open the door and ignore their gazes as Emily pulls you into a hug.
“I’m glad you’re okay.” She pulls back and checks over your eyes stopping on your arms. Her worried eyes land on your face. “Did she-”
You glance at the pack from the corner of your eye, sensing their stares.
Sam stands beside you, placing a hand on your back as he shares a stare with his fiancée. “Sit down with the others while I finish up dinner.”
He guides you to sit but the uncomfortableness emanating from them makes you aim for the couch. "You're sitting at the table.”
“Sam-”
“A pack sits together.”
Paul and Jared scoff. “As if they’re part of the pack. Not after what happened,” the former says.
You tense up, closing your eyes so as to not lose your cool.
“Don’t talk about it,” Emily tells them.
“How are we supposed to ignore the fact-”
You growl, eyes changing colors; you can’t turn around. “Ignore the fact that my mother died, and I almost did, at the hands of that red headed bitch no less.”
Emily says your name.
“Sorry, Em. I know cursing is basically forbidden in here but that was me being nice.”
You push yourself off the couch. “This was a bad idea.” You try to pass the pack when one of them sticks their foot out, you kick it with too much strength, irking the hot head.
You open the door and nearly fall, the doorway being the only reason you’re still standing.
“Hey, hey,” Sam started freaking out. “What’s going on?”
You run towards the railing and throw up.
“Why is it- are throwing up-” He stops himself when he sees the color. “What did you do?”
“I’m dying lone wolf. What does it look like?”
“I told you-”
“They hate me. It was never going to happen.”
He picks you up and brings you back inside. “Call Carlisle and ask him what we can do?”
Paul makes another snide comment and you’re losing it.
You get away from the alpha and grab the wolf’s shoulders, shoving him into the wall, not at all making eye contact with him until you hold him in place, with the black bile dripping down your chin.
“Listen here, Lahote and listen well. I will not take any more of your smartass comments. I am still a person with the same issues as yours just a little extra, but your comments stop now. I am tired of everyone thinking I did it. You want to know what happened. That red head came into town and my mom decided enough was enough, she packed a bag and was getting ready to leave. I shifted, found her about to eat my mom and wound-up getting bit only to find that she did go for my mom and held her till her last breath. Then as they hauled her away, I found the scars and realized what happened. Someone spread some rumors and here we are. You want to say anything else?”
He shakes his head, letting out a deep breath.
"Holy shit!" Jared says as soon as your body sways.
Leah, the closest to you, grabs you before you could fall. "We need to take her to a hospital."
"She won't go but maybe the imprint will help?"
"Holy shit!"
"Shut up, Jared," Embry takes initiative and reaches over to punch his pack brother's shoulder. "Shut up man. You're not helping."
The one who can't stop repeating himself rolls his eyes. "You can't tell me I'm the only ones whose mind was blown with everything we just learned."
"You're not but you can shut up."
"Take her to the guest room while I call-"
"No!" Paul stays where he is, debating on leaving now so as not to hurt you anymore than he already has.
The sight of his imprint half dead in Leah's arms and the jokes he made while trying to trip you make him realize he's an even bigger idiot than he thought. "Don't call the leech doctor."
"What are we supposed to do? Let them slowly die when we know there's someone who could have saved them?"
The hot head wants to growl at his alpha but doesn't because he doesn't want to lose it faster than he wants, he's having a hard time trying to calm himself as it is.
"He's here."
Carlisle smiles, "Alice had a vision and sent me over as soon as she could."
"We appreciate it."
"What's going on with our patient?"
Everyone tells them what they know and have seen.
"I see. There is a likely possibility that the venom is working through their system and hasn't quite mixed yet."
"What does that mean? They have to die in order to live?" Paul chimes in.
"It may also have to do with the fact that they haven't shifted as often as you and are not part of a pack. Lone shifters have a hard enough time trying to survive on their own but mixing in the venom, is well-"
"A death sentence just waiting to happen," Sam finishes for him.
The doctor doesn’t want to tell him he's right and knows his silence is enough.
"Is there anything we can do?"
"Continue to make sure they are comfortable and let nature heal them."
"So, your solution is to let them die?!"
"Get him out of here," Sam orders Jared, Embry, Leah, and Quil.
They drag him out so the two can continue their conversation.
-
"I know you just imprinted but you need to calm down, dude," Jared tells him.
Paul continues to shake, unsure of anything he's feeling right now.
On the one hand he has someone to love and protect but on the other hand, he has to try even harder to control himself otherwise he's going to lose it.
He's also upset because he was acting like such a dick to his imprint and even though he never thought he'd find them; he definitely didn't want this to be his first impression. "How am I supposed to calm down when everyone's solution is to let them die?"
With Jared blocking his way in, he can easily get in his face.
"How would you feel if this was happening with Kim, huh? Tell me that."
His friend's face hardens, "don't talk about her."
"Then don't try and talk about mine like you know something."
They stare at each other, their chests heaving with each heavy breath they take.
"Great, now that we've had our macho match, can we go for a run? As much as I want to make it up to them, I don't want to be here any longer when we can't apologize," Embry interrupts.
The two shake their heads and head into the woods so they can phase and be free to run wherever they want.
-
"How can we help them?" Sam asks the doctor.
"I'm going to be honest with you, Sam. This is a little out of my jurisdiction, but I will do all that I can to help anyway, I can."
The alpha nods, "I appreciate it."
"I believe now their transition will be complete within the next few days."
"What brought this on?"
"It was only a matter of time before it hit, and I think the adrenaline and stress of the battle speeded things up." He glances back at the alpha who stares at your body with much concern. "May I ask, how close you are to the lone shifter?"
"Before everything happened, we were close. I always thought of them as my younger sibling but then everything happened, and I stopped talking to them because I was concerned for their safety and didn't want to hurt them."
The doctor can tell by the look on the shifter’s face that he's still disappointed in himself. "You did all you could and allowing my assistance is more than they could ask for."
"How long will it take?"
"My guess is, they'll be ready by tomorrow."
"So soon?"
"Their shifter DNA is altering the venom and their genetics. Now that they're resting, they've been able to heal themselves."
He notices the expression on Sam's face. "Let's give them privacy. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day."
-
Emily and Sam hug one another, unsure of what to think; they never wanted this for you, and they feel terrible because they can't help you.
"The boys should be back soon, yeah?"
He nods. "Hopefully Paul's calmed down."
"I think this is going to be a hard time for him."
"Yeah, I know," the alpha sighs.
The boys and Leah make it back to their home and sit at the table. "What are we going to do?"
"We have to wait."
"Did you two know?" Leah asks.
"They told us what happened, but we didn't know she bit her," Sam tells her. "We knew they were hiding something, but we didn't expect this."
"You should have told us," Paul grumbles while snacking on a muffin.
"You didn't even like them until you imprinted," Jake points out.
"I'm not the one on trial here."
The young wolf scoffs, "you should be."
The hot head stands up, pushing the chair back. "You want to take this outside?"
"Maybe I do."
"Alright, you two, that's enough."
They back down at the voice of the alpha, although it takes Jake a few more seconds before he sits down where he was. "You two need to stop it. We've got enough to deal with right now."
After an hour, most of the pack leaves; some to do their patrol shift, others to spend time with their family.
"Do you want to stay in the room with them?" Emily asks, noticing the longing he directs at the door.
He doesn't want to say it out loud and nods.
"I'll tell Sam when he gets back, you can go in but be careful, okay?"
"Do you think they'll forgive me?"
She nods, remembering her and Sam's minor falling out after his episode. "It'll take time."
He sighs and the door inches open, he hesitates to move.
The sight of you almost lifeless and thinking he hates you, kills him.
Why didn’t anyone tell them they’d get so sappy?
He doesn’t know whether he likes it or not as he takes a seat by the bed. His eyes trail over your face, taking in every inch of you.
If he was the artsy type, he’d definitely paint you. He doesn’t know when he fell asleep but waking up to the sun rising was annoying, just because he was one with nature doesn’t mean he needs it to be his alarm clock.
He rubs his eyes, trying to remember everything that happened last night and glances down at you.
You moved in your sleep, the hand practically reaching for him, warms his heart.
He grabs it, wanting you to be comfortable and not wake up with achy joints.
Your eyes move and he doesn’t realize it. It’s hard to open your eyes but you manage to do it, only to find the hothead holding your hand.
You freeze and his eyes trail up your arm, staring into yours.
“You like me now?” Your voice cracks after not having used it in a while.
He shakes his head and reaches for the glass Emily left, inching closer and closer to your face.
You grab it from him after pushing yourself up, back resting against the headboard. “What happened?”
“You died.”
You blink your eyes rapidly, trying to understand what he just said. “I’m sorry?”
“The venom from the bite was killing you and the fact that you barely shift… didn’t help.”
“So, now I’m both?”
“I think so.”
You set the cup down and push sheets off your heating body.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“Leaving,” you grumble.
He pushes himself out of the chair and grabs your wrists, stopping you. “No, you’re not.”
“You don’t own me.”
“The imprint bond says otherwise.”
You snatch your wrists out of his grasp, “no, the bond is basically saying we’re soulmates and you don’t own me.”
You make it out of the door and into the hallway before it clicks. “We’re imprints?!”
“I think they’re awake,” Jared comments and shoves a piece of bacon into his mouth.
Embry smacks the back of his head.
“No, no, no.” You stand before the woman you go to for everything. “Tell me it’s not true.”
The corners of her lips twitch.
You snatch a sausage and munch on it. “This is not right.”
“Thanks, sweetheart. I feel the love.”
You purse your lips and glare at him. “You’re the one that was being a dick yesterday and now because of the bond, you want to be my prince charming.”
“I never said that.”
“You’re acting like it.” You sit on the couch before any of them realize where you are going. Your head plops against the back of the couch. “Why am I so damn emotional?”
A warm hand rests against your knee; you lift your head and find those damn attractive eyes that have always captivated you. “You went through a big change which has altered a part of you.”
“I didn’t want this,” you sniff.
He nods, “I know but w- you’re going to get through it.”
“You weren’t nearly half as nice as this before you shifted.”
“Sweetheart, I was nicer to you than most people.”
“It’s true,” Jared and Quil chime in.
“No one asked you two.”
They stare at you with wide eyes and raised brows as if this had proven their point.
“If you’ll let me, I’ll be there for you.”
You stare at him, gulping at his words. “How do I know you mean that, and you aren’t just saying that, so I don’t eat half the town?”
“We,” he clears his throat. “We came up with an alternative if you wound up being more of a leech- cold one, more of a cold one.”
“Am I going to eat a bunny?”
“Or a squirrel,” Jared jokes, earning no amused faces in return. “You all need a new sense of humor,” he mumbles, crossing his arms.
“How do you feel?” Sam asks.
“Like I’m on an emotional roller coaster.”
“Are you hungry?”
“I’m always hungry for Em’s food.”
Paul guides you to the table so you all can eat.
“Should we call the doc?” Embry wonders out loud.
“Don’t need to,” your imprint grumbles.
You run to the door, opening it. “I smell bunny.”
He chuckles, “it was the only thing we had.”
“Do I have to?”
“It will help with the urges.”
“There’s only one urge I have, and I don’t like it.”
“What?” Seth asks.
“Nobody tell him,” says Quil.
“Come on, don’t be like that.”
“I think it would be wise if you took this. We don’t know the severity of your condition yet.”
“I’m fine. Just trying to wrap my head around the fact that no one hates me.”
“We’re totally sorry, by the way,” Embry adds. “Ow!”
“Not my fault, man,” Jared raises his hands.
The two start to brawl, leaving Sam to try and stop it while Carlisle talks to you and Paul, explaining how you should be careful and thanking you for your assistance.
-
“I know I was a jerk to you but,” he glances over to Emily and Sam. “Would you ever consider accepting my apology and going out with me?”
“Give me a few days to adjust and then if I think I’m well enough, ask me again.”
“Hey, man. It wasn’t a no, alright,” Seth holds his hand up for a high five.
The hothead shoves the kid to the side, following you so he can sit in the open chair to your left.
Emily pours you a drink and sits down so you all can eat.
-
A few days later and you’re feeling better, still adjusting to everyone’s new attitude towards you.
You stick with more human meals than the animal blood the Cullen’s shared with you, not wanting to rely on it.
Things with Paul are still interesting.
He’s slowly worming his way back into your heart. “You want to go on patrol with me?”
“Aren’t you supposed to be with Quil?”
“He wanted to switch.”
You stare at him with a deadpan expression. “Did you threaten him?”
He raises his hands. “I did nothing.”
“Sure, you did,” you chuckle. “Come on,” you call out.
“Where are you going?”
“We have to patrol.”
He stares at your bare back. “This reminds me of when I first took you out.”
“You barely asked me out and then kept me in your backseat after school.”
“I wanted you to stay warm.”
“Oh, is that what they call it?” You ask with mischief in your eyes.
He nods, pulling you back into him by your waist; his chin resting on your shoulder. “I actually kept you there so no one else would see you.”
“Wha-”
“Didn’t want them seeing the hottie in my car and think they could get with you.”
“What a gentleman,” you tell him with a dry tone.
He shrugs, chuckling under his breath, “I try.”
“Are you serious?”
“About what?”
You run behind a tree and shift, waiting for him to catch up; it doesn’t take him long.
“About what?”
“Not wanting anyone to ask me out.”
“Why would I lie about that?”
“To get in my pants?”
“I was already getting with you.”
“I wouldn’t be so cocky. You’re still in the early stages of this relationship.”
“So, we’re in a relationship?”
“I never said that.”
He nudges you with his snout. “You did, don’t deny it.”
“I’m denying nothing. You need your hearing checked.”
“I think I heard you just fine.”
-
You roll your eyes and speed up, racing to meet the others; you meet Leah, Embry, and Jared.
The two former run to you and tackle you, playing around with you while Jared goes for Paul.
All of you run back to Emily’s when Sam calls you all back.
The air flowing through your fur is amazing, not to mention the fact that you’re getting to know your imprint, slowly but surely falling for him.

❝the past needs to stay in the past❞
this last one was soo good. I love the addition of the reader being a witch was a good idea.
Jasper/The Major x Retired Military Reader including Edward
Where the reader is a retired army major, but the Cullens do not find out until later in the story.
She stands at 6 ft tall. Has knowledge of many languages and knows several different martial arts trainings. She has shoulder length chocolate brown hair. She is in her late 30s - early 40s. She has one large dragon tattoo on her back. She is also Bella's aunt.
The reader finds out early in this story that the Cullens are vampires. She gets along with everyone. .
but Edward - he cannot read her mind. She does not like how he treats Bella at all, during the training to defeat Victoria and her army of newborns - Edward has decide to be an idiot and say something disrespectful towards the reader. The Major has come out to try to defend the reader, but she stops him and tells Edward to continue talking with them both not knowing that the reader is a retired army major.
Then Edward goes to attack the reader by trying to pin her to the ground and without a second thought she uses her training she has learned over the years to defeat Edward. She then tells Edward to address her by her name. Edward rolls his eyes even though he is embarrassed to be beaten. He thinks she means her last name, but she says no by my rank. Then she tells everyone that she is a retired army major. (also, jasper / The Major may be standing with a smirk being proud of his mate)
feel free to add anything else.

It was a warm summer evening in the small town of Forks, and the Cullen family had gathered at the Swan residence. The occasion was a simple family dinner, but there was an air of excitement as everyone anticipated the arrival of Bella's mysterious aunt, (Y/N) Swan.
(Y/N) was known to be an enigmatic figure, rarely seen and even less frequently spoken of. She was an ex-military major, a fact that no one in Forks was aware of, and had a talent for keeping her secrets well-hidden.
As the doorbell rang, signaling her arrival, the room fell silent. Bella's eyes widened, and she exchanged a curious glance with Edward. (Y/N)’s presence always seemed to add an air of intrigue to any occasion.
(Y/N) entered the room with a confident stride, her military background evident in her posture and the sharpness of her gaze. She was tall with a commanding presence, her silver-and black streaked hair neatly pulled back into a bun. Her eyes, a captivating shade of (eye color), seemed to hold a wealth of untold stories.
"(Y/N)!” Bella exclaimed, rushing towards her aunt with open arms. "It's so good to see you."
(Y/N) smiled warmly and embraced her niece. "It's good to see you too, Bella." Her voice was calm but carried an air of authority, a testament to her military past.
As the family settled around the dinner table, (Y/N) took her place next to Bella, casting a curious glance towards Edward. She had always been observant, and from the moment Bella had introduced her to the Cullens, she had taken note of the peculiar behavior Edward displayed around her.
Edward, usually confident and composed, seemed visibly frustrated in (Y/N)’s presence. His brow furrowed as he attempted to read (Y/N)’s thoughts, only to be met with an impenetrable wall. It was a sensation he was unused to, and it both intrigued and unsettled him.
(Y/N), however, remained unperturbed. She had always been aware of Edward's ability to read minds, having discovered it through her own observations.
It was a skill she respected, but she also relished the fact that she could keep her thoughts hidden from him. It added an element of mystery to their interactions, and she found it rather amusing.
Throughout the evening, (Y/N) engaged in lively conversations with the Cullen family, sharing stories of her time in the military and her travels around the world. Her tales were captivating, filled with bravery and adventure, and everyone at the table hung on to her every word.
As the night wore on, and the laughter filled the room, (Y/N) couldn't help but notice Edward's occasional glances in her direction.
She could sense his frustration, his desire to break through the barrier she had unknowingly placed between them. But (Y/N) had no intention of revealing her secrets just yet. There was something about Edward's persistence that intrigued her.
As the dinner came to an end, (Y/N) rose from her seat, bidding farewell to the Cullen family. "It was a pleasure spending the evening with all of you," she said, her eyes lingering on Edward for a moment longer than necessary.
Edward, unable to hide his curiosity any longer, spoke up. "(Y/N), I have to admit, your ability to keep your thoughts hidden from me is quite impressive."
(Y/N) chuckled softly, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Oh, Edward, there's more to me than meets the eye. But I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually."
With a wink, (Y/N) left the Swan residence, leaving Edward with a mix of frustration and intrigue. As she walked into the night, her secrets intact, (Y/N) couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
She knew that her presence would continue to stir up curiosity and keep the Cullens on their toes.
It was only until days later after (Y/N)’s arrival that news of Victoria and her newborn army had spread like wildfire through the Cullen household.
The tension in the air was palpable as the family gathered to discuss their strategy for dealing with the impending threat. (Y/N) Swan, ever the capable and determined individual, insisted on being involved in any way possible.
She knew that her military background could be an asset in this fight, and she was determined to help protect her family.
As the Cullens prepared for their training session, (Y/N) stood among them, ready for action. She had donned her combat gear, a stark reminder of her past life. Bella, concerned for her aunt's safety, watched with a mix of admiration and worry.
Edward, however, had other ideas. He couldn't bear the thought of Bella being in harm's way, and he resorted to saying mean things to convince her to leave the training grounds. But his approach was all wrong, and (Y/N) couldn't stand idly by.
"Edward, that's enough," (Y/N)’s voice cut through the tension, her eyes narrowing with determination. "Bella has every right to be here, just like the rest of us. If you're concerned for her safety, find a more constructive way to address it."
Edward's eyes widened in surprise at (Y/N)’s outburst. He opened his mouth to retort, but before he could say a word, Jasper's alter ego, the Major, emerged. The intense energy in the air shifted, and everyone could feel the crackle of power surrounding (Y/N) and Jasper.
Jasper took a step forward, ready to defend his mate, but (Y/N) placed a hand on his arm, signaling him to stand down. She knew that she had to handle this situation on her own.
"It's alright, Jasper," (Y/N) said, her voice filled with authority. "Let me handle this."
Edward, still caught off guard, glared at (Y/N). “Why don't you mind your own business? This doesn't concern you."
(Y/N)’s gaze hardened, her military training kicking in. "Edward, you will address me with respect. I am Major Swan, ex-military, and I have earned the right to be here, just like everyone else."
The realization dawned on Edward's face as he comprehended the title (Y/N) had just bestowed upon herself. He had underestimated her, and it was a mistake he would soon regret.
Edward took a step forward, his frustration getting the better of him. In the heat of the moment, he lunged at (Y/N) attempting to attack her. But (Y/N)’s combat instincts kicked in, and she swiftly disarmed him, expertly pinning him down into submission.
She looked down at Edward, her voice laced with authority. "You will address me and Bella with the respect we deserve. We are here to protect each other, not tear each other down."
Edward, pinned beneath her, realized the gravity of his actions. He looked up at (Y/N), his eyes filled with regret. "I'm sorry, (Y/N). I didn't realize..."
“Address me correct -“ she says.
“I’m sorry Major Swan.”
(Y/N) released her hold on him, allowing him to stand up. She extended a hand, a gesture of reconciliation. "Apology accepted, Edward. Let's remember that we're a team, and we need to support each other."
Edward nodded, gratitude evident in his eyes. He shook (Y/N)’s hand, silently acknowledging her authority and expertise. From that moment on, a newfound respect blossomed between them.
As the training continued, (Y/N) and Edward found themselves working side by side, their differences set aside in the face of a common enemy. (Y/N)’s presence brought a sense of unity and strength to the Cullen family, and together, they prepared to face the imminent threat.
In the days that followed, (Y/N) would prove to be an invaluable asset, using her military knowledge and combat skills to guide the Cullens towards victory. And amidst the chaos and danger, a bond of trust and respect formed between (Y/N) and Edward, one that would endure beyond the battle against Victoria and her newborn army.

Hello! Been reading your twilight posts recentlt and was wondering what you think might have happened if James had killed Emmett in the ballet studio, particularly how it would have affected Rosalie/her dynamic with the Cullens?
Bella feels horribly guilty to learn that her stupid plan to save her mother (who had not been kidnapped) as well as the fact that she drew James's attention in the first place (which would not have happened had she not intruded in the Cullen's world where she feels she doesn't belong) got someone killed. Not just someone, either, but one of the Cullens, Edward's beloved brother, and Emmett who seemed so nice for all she didn't know him that well.
Bella is devastated and feels increadibly guilty and horrible.
This is made worse by Rosalie's (understandable if not ideal) reaction where I imagine she blames Bella to her face. This never would have happened if Bella had not been involved in their lives, not come to that baseball game, or if they hadn't saved her from that stupid van/killed her the night after like Rosalie wanted to. Rosalie feels as if she's traded Emmett for Bella and she hates that.
Edward of course blames Rosalie for having the worst reaction possible and actively driving Bella into a depression.
I imagine Rosalie leaves, Edward clearly isn't leaving Bella (as I imagine he'd want to hold on a little longer/this wouldn't be the New Moon wakeup call for him) and she wants time on her own to grieve/not get into fights with Edward over whose fault it is that Emmett died. No doubt Rosalie also blames the family somewhat as if they had sided with her and chosen not to protect Bella, Emmett would be alive. It's understandable why they wanted to protect Bella but it also was dangerous and risked someone dying for what. Rosalie needs some time to process alone.
Bella now feels she's driven Rosalie out of the family, this makes her guilt even worse.
I imagine Bella actively tries to avoid the Cullen household that summer (unlike canon) as being there reminds Bella of what happened/she believes it reminds the Cullens of what happened...
Honestly, I think Bella dumps Edward. She tries to hang on to him but as the weeks go by and his family is clearly falling apart, and it's all her fault, and he's sitting there being so sweet when she just effectively murdered his brother...
I don't think Bella could do it, it'd be too much and she'd double down on "Edward deserves better than me". Especially when she can justify that Edward can't read her thoughts, he's clearly too good to ever blame her when she deserves it, and she can say to herself "Edward doesn't realize how awful of a person I am."
So, Bella breaks up with him so that he can have someone better, his family can move, and they can heal. Edward is shocked and horrified but in the midst of his despair and depression remembers that this was what he wanted, he wanted to leave Bella eventually and her doing it versus him might be better. So, Edward leaves immediately and steals all her pictures/every gift he ever gave her.
Bella sinks into her New Moon depression immediately (made worse by Emmett's death and the fact that Bella did this herself and now is weak for wanting to take back her decision and oh god she's the worst person on the planet).
The Hallucination Edward times are even more fraught as Bella feels doubly guilty in that she shouldn't want to summon Edward and yet she can't live without him. I imagine this results in even riskier behavior as Bella genuinely thinks she should die and gets closer and closer to actively wanting it.
Bella probably succeeds in killing herself.
(The Jacob thing here... I don't know if he could help because the thing is Bella despises herself so much/feels so guilty and Jacob has no context for understanding this even if he becomes a wolf (added that Bella now is responsible for people dying because Victoria is actively hunting her) that I don't think Bella can use her friendship with him to claw her way out of depression.
He'd probably just make her feel worse given he shifted because of Victoria which is because of her and have we mentioned Emmett is dead?)
I imagine Alice does not tell Rosalie in part because Rosalie's not near her when it happens also because... well... bad history and Alice blames Rosalie for this mess.
This means no one tells Edward.
Edward's suicide is thus put off for as long as he feels he can live without Bella. When he breaks and goes to check on her, he discovers she's died and goes to Volterra to kill himself where no one is able to stop him from breaking the law.

Forks, Washington - June 27th 2006
Y/n L/n had just moved to Forks, Washington. She was what you could call a happy-go-lucky type of person, she was unfazed by all the negative things that would go on around her. All she wanted to do was live like there was no tomorrow, to live in the moment. Her sunshine like attitude caught the attention of a certain group of pale students at the back of the cafeteria, she had noticed them on her first day; there were six of them around the circular table but only five of them truly stood out. Their eyes were the colour of topaz, as if they were crafted out of the finest crystal. The group had their eyes trained on Y/n, she felt exposed under their intense stares but she didn't let it bother her. Instead she had left her group of newly found friends and walked over to the group of students at the far end of the cafeteria.
Edward was the first to notice Y/n, her thoughts louder than the rest of the students yet they were so calming. She was different from anyone he had ever met. When she had finally made her way over to the group, all their heads snapped in her direction. Alice knew this was going to happen, the pixie like Vampire was ecstatic to finally have another friend that would like all the same things as her. Alice was the first to speak up "Hello! I'm Alice and this is my family. This is Jasper and over there is Edward and Bella, and this big man-baby is Emmett and Rosalie is right beside him. It's so nice to finally meet you, Y/n." The h/c girl had a small smile on her face as she spoke to the Cullen's, she was practically bouncing off the walls when Emmett had asked if she wanted to join them.
Jasper was trying his best to control himself but it was hard, the thick scent of iron filled his senses. Edward was about to drag him out the cafeteria and away from everyone but Y/n had interrupted him from doing so. "Jasper? Are you okay? You don't look too good." She placed her hand on his shoulder, the Cullen's were now on edge; what if Jasper lashed out and exposed them all? Instead, he turned to look at the girl beside him and smiled at her. He could feel all of her emotions radiating off of her and it helped ease him just a little bit, she was like a walking shot of espresso; jolting his body awake by just one look.

Cullen House - July 20th 2006
Y/n had known the Cullens for about a month, she was at the Cullen home when she had first met the Pack. Y/n knew what the Cullens were, her reaction surprised the vampire family.
Tumblr media
Edward had asked Y/n to come over one weekend, telling her Alice needed help packing for their trip to New York next week. Y/n being a good friend, had rushed over as soon as possible to help the vampire. When she had arrived, Edward was sat on the steps of the porch, his eye's were a little darker than the last time she saw him. Y/n made her way over to him, all Edward could hear was her thoughts running a mile a minute. Did I take a shower today? Wait I didn't leave to stove on did I? Shit what if I did? Edward loved her thoughts, they were amusing to say the least. Y/n had sat down beside him, her arm brushed against his own, the feeling of warmth eased the forever coldness he felt. Is he cold? Should I hug him? Before Edward could tell her he was okay, Y/n had draped her arm over his shoulder, pulling the taller boy into her side. If he were human he knew for sure his heart would be hammering against his chest right now. The duo stayed like that until the rest of the Cullen family had came outside, finally prepared to tell Y/n everything.
The vampire family had brought Y/n to a field full of daisies, it was beautiful. The young girl was so distracted with the flowers, she had missed the way the Cullen's skin had started to sparkle. Rainbow like flex making small spots of light to fall upon her skin. When Y/n had turned around, she was stunned. The sight in front of her was undeniably beautiful. Edward had the smuggest grin playing on his lips as he read her thoughts. Holy shit. They look like fairies. Wow. Do you think they would let me touch their skin? Wait no that would be weird. Carlisle was the one to break the silence, his voice was mellow - cautious. Carlisle went on to explain how him and his family were vampires, they had lived all over the world and had only recently settled down in Forks. Y/n listened carefully to each word Carlisle spoke, she was intrigued and fascinated by them. The Cullens all stood waiting for Y/n to freak out like Bella had done but she never did, a grin stretched on her face as she rambled on about if they had special abilities or if they had any secret talents. "That's so freaking cool ! Wait, so are you guys allergic to garlic? And can you see yourselves in the mirror?" Edward had laughed at what Y/n said, never has anyone actually asked them those questions but he knew they had all wanted to know.
Tumblr media
Edward smiled at the memory, Y/n was unlike anyone he’s ever met; she was so carefree and such a delight to be around. A knock at the Cullen door broke Edward out of his thoughts, Alice had gone to open it letting whoever it was, inside. Jacob Black had emerged from the outside, the stench of campfire and damp logs filled the vampires senses. As much as they had grown to tolerate the shapeshifters, they wouldn’t ever be able to handle the smell of them. The rest of the pack had filtered into the house and spread around the living room. Leah was pushed into the furthest corner of the room talking to Embry, she was the only shifter that still hadn't grown used to the Cullens; she still hated them. The sound of laughter pulled the attention of everyone in the room, Y/n and Emmett walked through the door in a fit of giggles. Y/n had leaves and twigs in her hair while Emmett had torn the side of his shirt. From the looks of them, you wouldn't believe Emmett had fallen out off a tree along side Y/n.
Carlisle looked at the pair of teenagers, his brows furrowed as he questioned what had happened. Y/n, with a big smile of her now flushed face, had went on to explain everything. "So, me and Emmett were outside and I saw the most angelic Songbird and I wanted to get closer to it. Emmett suggested climbing the tree it was sat in and we did but apparently Emmett over here." She said, pointing at the muscular vampire beside her "forgot to tell me some of the branches are prone to breaking, so we fell out the tree." The pair burst out laughing again, clutching on to their stomachs. "We landed on the rose bush outside, Esme I'm so sorry for ruining your roses. I will help you plant some more." Esme waved the girl off, telling her it was no trouble and as long as she was safe and sound, that's all that mattered to her. Y/n had gone to clean up when Jacob questioned the Cullens about who she was and why they had another human around them. Sam was the first to point out how ridiculous it was and how if the Volturi found out about Y/n, she would be killed or worse - turned.
When the young girl had come back into the living room, she was met with a young boy, maybe a little younger than herself, holding back a girl who seemed to be his sister. Y/n tried to defuse the situation by getting in front of the older woman and asking her what was wrong, trying her best to calm the woman down. Instead, Leah had turned and bolted out the house; her body violently shaking. The crisp air outside made the heat coming off her body extremely visible. Y/n, being the caring person she was, had followed after Leah; a bottle of water in hand, in case the shifter needed it. What she didn't expect was Leah transforming into a large grey wolf, the sight had startled Y/n. The rest of the pack and the Cullen's had rushed out the house, Jacob stood in front of Y/n trying to calm the situation. Leah started to snarl at everyone, her fur fluffed out as she backed away. Y/n put her hands up to show Leah she didn't mean any harm as she stepped closer. Leah felt cornered, as if she were trapped. The grey wolf lunged at Y/n in an attempt to escape and go back to the reservation, deep cuts now littered Y/n's bicep; blood seeping into her shirt. Edward had snarled at Leah, ready to attack her but Y/n stepped in front of him, her hands pressed firmly against his chest. "Get Jasper away from here, I.. I don't want him to be close to my blood." Edward shook his head, refusing to leave her. Y/n gave a look to Emmett, he grabbed his brother and brought him back inside - keeping both Edward and Jasper away from Y/n.
Leah kept as much distance away from Y/n and her pack, her ears were pinned flat against her head as she whimpered. Y/n slowly walked over to the wolf, a blanket now in hand as she draped it over Leah's form. "Hey.. It's okay. You're just scared and that is completely normal. Can you please change back and we can talk about this properly?" Y/n had tried to be as careful as possible with the words she chose, scared Leah would lash out again; instead the wolf had listened to the girl beside her and shifted back, the blanket now hugged tightly around her form. Y/n had lead Leah back into the house, asking Alice if she had a change of clothes she could have. Once Leah had calmed down and changed into something more comfortable, she left the bathroom and walked back over to her pack, her head down as she tucked herself behind Sam. Y/n had Carlisle check out the cuts, they needed stitches but it wasn't life threatening. When the young girl had come back to the living room, the pack were shouting at Leah, telling her how irresponsible she was. Y/n shoved her way through the group, draping her undamaged arm over Leah's shoulders. Jacob tried to pull her away from the older girl but Y/n shook him off, telling them all to back off.
"Leave her alone. She was scared, you're all acting like you've never accidentally hurt someone before and don't lie either. Besides, I'm gonna have the coolest scar." Y/n bumped Leah's shoulder as she said it, a grin tugging on her lips. Leah looked at the girl beside her, confused why she was being so chill about it. "I don't think I ever actually introduced myself, I'm Y/n but you can call me your new best friend." Leah had laughed at that, this girl was definitely going to change their lives forever.

The Birthday Party - September 14th 2006
Y/n had known the Cullens and the pack for the last few months, she had grown quite close to both Leah and Emmett, hanging out with the pair every chance she got. Leah had become protective of Y/n, always tagging along with her no matter where Y/n had to go, even if it was just to the Cullen's house; Leah would be there.
Y/n's birthday had come around, she wasn't the biggest fan of celebrating her birthdays. She thought if you wanted to celebrate the day someone was born, then it could be any day of the year not just the exact day they came into this world. The pack and the Cullen's had planned a surprise party for their favourite human, setting everything up at Sam's house. Emily and Esme had cooked food for everyone while Alice, Bella and Rosalie planned on baking the cake - it took multiple attempts to actually get the cake right without burning it or messing the frosting up. Jasper, Emmett, Paul and Jacob were in charge of setting up the decorations with the occasional help from Leah, her telling the boys they were doing it all wrong and then proceeding to move the decorations over an inch and saying that's perfect. Sam, Carlisle and Edward set up lights in the small field behind Sam's house, declaring it was needed for extra light when they had the bonfire before opening presents. Speaking of presents, Embry, Jared, Seth and Quil were in charge of hiding them until it was time for them to be given to Y/n. But I have a feeling you would've already guessed, leaving such a big responsibility to the youngsters of the pack would turn terribly wrong. They had the bright idea of leaving them outside by the bonfire, now you're probably guessing the presents were caught on fire - no.
Instead, like every other day in Forks, it had begun to rain. The wrapped presents now soaked with rain water. Y/n had made it to Sam's house as the pack were panicking over what to do. When she entered the house, she was met with string lights hung up and a banner with "HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N" hung on the ceiling beam beside the kitchen. Jacob greeted Y/n, bringing her into a hug, whispering a happy birthday. Y/n had a smile on her face, she went round hugging everyone, telling them how much she was happy. Sam broke the news about the presents, he fiddled with his fingers as Y/n picked up on of the soaked boxes. She put it back down before grabbing a towel from the bathroom and placing it in front of her. Everyone stood around watching her pick up one present after the other, unwrapping them as carefully as possible. Edward and Bella's gift were first, they had gotten Y/n the CD of her favourite album; Edward knew how much she loved that specific album. Jasper was next, he was stuck on what to get her at first but then had settled on a f/c crystal pendant; Y/n had always said she loved crystals. Emmett had caught her the Songbird they had both tried to catch a couple months ago, it was blue with a brown mane and white stomach. When Y/n had seen it, a squeal erupted from her. She had jumped on the muscular vampire, wrapping her arms around his neck, repeating thank you over and over again.
Alice, being the more smarter one out her family, had gifted the girl a pack of pads, chocolate and a new blanket. Telling the girl she was going to need them in the next couple days, Y/n had thanked her and gave her a hug, telling Alice she was grateful to have someone that could see the future. Rosalie and Esme had collaborated on a gift for Y/n, they had gotten her a new sketchbook after being told how much she needed a new one after completing her old one; it was black with flowers etched on the front and back cover. Y/n had clutched the sketchbook close to her heart, expressing how much she loved it to the two female vampires. Carlise was the last of the Cullen family to give his gift to Y/n, the older vampire had wrapped the gift so neatly - a small f/c bow placed on top. Inside the box was another box, though it was much smaller and it was made of velvet. Inside the box was the most prettiest bracelet Y/n had ever laid her eyes on. It was made of a silver chain with small diamonds incrusted around a medallion, on the backside of the silver circle was the Cullen Crest; a small lion with its teeth bared, three clubs sat below it. Y/n had handed it back to Carlisle, asking if he could help them put it on. She had stared at her wrist for a couple second, her e/c twinkling with delight.
Once Y/n had gotten round to the presents off the Pack, Paul had taken his back; telling her he wanted his to be the last one to be opened. She nodded her head and moved on to Seth's gift. The young wolf had made Y/n a card alongside a photo album he must've been making; Y/n now understood why Seth was so adamant on taking pictures of her and the pack every chance he got. She flipped through the book, landing on one of the pictures that brought her the most joy; the memories started flooding back from the day at La Push Beach.

La Push Beach - July 26th 2006
Y/n and the pack had gone to La Push Beach on one of the rare sunny day in Forks, the group of wolves wanted to show Y/n what cliff diving was like. They had chilled on the beach for a little while, running around and chasing after one another - then they descended to the cliff. Sam was the first to jump off the cliff, the rest of the pack followed behind; whooping as they dropped to the icy water below. Jacob stayed behind with Y/n in case she had gotten scared and wanted to back out but instead she stepped back a couple steps, allowing herself a runway before sprinting and jumping off the edge. She let out her best howl before being engulfed by the water. Jacob had followed shortly behind, already seeing the girl splashing Embry and Quil before swimming as fast as she could behind Sam. Giggles and shouts travelled around the beach as the group played around. Seth had excused himself, telling his pack he needed some water. Paul had coaxed Y/n into playing chicken fight with them, she gave in knowing it would be fun. Y/n had gotten on Paul's shoulders as Jared held Leah up on his. Then it was on. The two girls pushed and shoved each other, trying to make the other fall and in truth, Leah had almost won but Paul had a good firm grip on Y/n's thighs before she could fall back and take them both down with her. Y/n shoved Leah back with all her might, making the older woman fall into the water, alongside Jared.
Y/n raised her arms into the air and started cheering, the rest of the pack swarmed both her and Paul, applauding the pair for winning. What they didn't know though, was Seth had taken pictures. He had captured the moment forever on his camera.
Tumblr media
Y/n turned to Seth with tears in her eyes, she pulled the young wolf into a hug almost crushing him. She sniffled as she pulled away "Thank you Seth, this is so lovely." Seth had given her a shy smile before telling her it was no problem at all. Leah was next, she practically shoved the gift at Y/n, the h/c girl gladly took the gift from her and opened it. Inside was one of Leah's shirts, Y/n remembered it as the one she usually took when she would stay over at Sam's. Y/n had looked up at Leah before rushing to the bathroom to put it on, she loved this shirt so much; it was a deep brown colour and slightly loose. When Y/n had come back she was now wearing Leah's shirt, it smelled of her; bringing Y/n some comfort. Quil and Embry were next to give their gift, there were seashells in a glass jar. The same ones Sam refused to let Y/n take back from the beach, his excuse being "you have too many." Y/n wiped the tears away as she picked out a couple of the seashells and giving them to the two boys "I want you both to have one, so then we will never be apart from each other." The two wolves accepted instantly, Embry tucked his away in the breast pocked of his shirt, while Quil shoved his into the front pocket of his shorts.
Jared was next, he chucked the present at Y/n telling her to be quick to open it or he would take it back. Jared was the last to warm up to Y/n, not that he didn't like her - more like he was scared she'd do what Bella did, ditch them for the leeches. Y/n opened Jared's present, a small note sat at the bottom. Y/n had looked up at him confused, she didn't care about the gift being a note but what could it be that it was so hard for him to just talk to her about? She had opened the folded paper up and read it aloud.
"The treasure hunt has begun, now to find your present pretty girl." Y/n had the biggest grin on her face, she got up from the spot on the floor and walked over to Jared. "What's the rules, pretty boy?" She made sure to emphasise the words 'pretty boy', he wasn't going to get away with calling her pretty girl that easily - no, she was going to make sure to tease him every chance she got. Jared smirked before telling her the rules of the game. "The rules are this, you will walk around the house and I'll tell you if you're getting hot or cold." Y/n was all for it. She walked around the living room first, all she was met with was cold, colder, freezing. She then made her way to the bathroom but before she could enter, Jared stopped her. "Deathly cold, baby doll." She only grinned as she made her way over to Sam to ask for permission to look around his room, the older male gave her the all clear. Y/n made her way around Sam's room, she was once again met with cold, colder, freezing until she went passed the dresser and Jared called out from behind her "You're on fire."
She rooted through the dresser, at the back of the second drawer her fingers swiped against a small box, she grabbed it and pulled it out, showing it to Jared to which he smiled and walked back to the rest of the group. Y/n made her way back to her friends before sitting back down in her spot on the floor and opening the box, inside was one of Jared's only possessions from his mom. He never knew her really, she died when he was little and knowing he had gifted something so dear to him to Y/n had made her cry. Two hairpins sat side by side in the box, they had two crystal white pearls stuck to them. Y/n had slid the hairpins into her h/c locks, thanking Jared for the thoughtful gift before giving his cheek a kiss.
Sam and Emily had joined together to get Y/n a gift. Emily was known for being really into painting and Sam knew Y/n better than he knew himself so he told his imprint what Y/n would love and Emily had took it upon herself to paint it on a big canvas. The image in front of Y/n made her heart swell, it was Y/n and the pack on one of the day's they were free from patrol. She didn't know who took the picture for the inspiration but she loved them for it. The painting had Seth and Leah messing around as siblings do, Embry jumping on Quil while Jared had a muffin stuffed in his mouth beside them. Jacob and Paul were playing around with each other, looking like they were about to ram into the other like raging bulls in a china shop. Y/n was sat on the floor with a bunch of flowers she had picked, weaving the stems into the other to make a flower crown. Y/n got up and walked over to Emily and Sam, bring the pair into a hug telling them how much she loved the gift and how she was going to hang it in her room when she got home.
Jacob and Paul were the only ones left to give their present to Y/n, Jacob had handed over a small neatly wrapped box to her. Y/n had opened it and inside was a golden anklet with the pack crest on it along side a wolf howling. Y/n immediately put it on, adjusting it every now and then so it didn't get caught on her shoe. Paul was the last of the pack to hand his gift to Y/n, it wasn't wrapped like the others. She held the small black velvet box in her hands, an envelope was taped to the side. Y/n plucked it off the box and opened it, reading it to herself.
"I don't know how I'm meant to say this but I love you, I have ever since I first met you and before you say I'm rushing into things, I'm not. I'll try to explain this as best and as fast as I can. You are my Imprint, I don't think I've ever told you what it is so I will now. Imprinting on someone isn't like love at first sight, it's more like.. gravity moves suddenly. The centre of the earth no longer holds you, it's her.. it's you, Y/n. I don't need to be your lover, I can be anything you want me to be.. A friend or a protector. Every time I look at you, I see our future together. You look happy, we even start our own family but that's not for a good few years. You are my world and everything more, I would die for you if that's what needed to be done, I'd live for you if that's all you wanted. Now open the box, my love."
Y/n had opened the velvet box, a small silver ring sat in between the two cushions. It had two stones in the middle, one a dark silver and the other, f/c. Y/n had pieced the meaning behind the colours together. The dark silver was for Paul, or at least his wolf, and the f/c was her favourite colour. Y/n looked up at Paul, her eye's glazed over. She had put the ring on her ring finger before getting up and walking over to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him down to kiss her. Cheering could be heard from around them, Emmett had the biggest grin on his face as he shouted "It's about damn time." The pair pulled away after a minute or so, their faces displayed such an intense amount of love for the other. The rest of the night was spent eating Esme's and Emily's food and chilling around the campfire after the rain had cleared up, Y/n tucked into Paul's side as both supernatural groups shared stories about their ancestors and their lives before being turned.

It’s been almost a month since you ended your relationship with Edward. It hasn’t been easy to avoid him as if it doesn’t hurt you. But of course, being surrounded by wolves, especially by your pack, helped a lot. Jacob became extremely overprotective after what happened to you. He even made a deal with the Cullens to see if, by teaming up with the pack, they could find Victoria. So, every time you go out, there’s always a wolf and a vampire on alert for each of your steps. Jacob and Emmett are the ones who spend the most time watching over you. The Cullens feel very guilty about your accident, so they’re always taking care of your safety. You feel like a baby being supervised with every step you take. It’s distressing. And the vampire seems to have vanished off the map.
"Jacob, I appreciate your alpha protective instinct wanting to keep an eye on me all the time, but I’m as much a wolf as you are. I’m alert now, and I don’t think Victoria will come after me, at least not while everyone is watching over me. Go unwind, see Bella, take care of your pack without just focusing on me; a good leader knows when it’s time to concentrate your mind elsewhere." You grumble as you walk alongside Jacob through the forest. You’re feeling suffocated by so much attention.
"I don't want to risk your life. If you want to be alone so badly, you can pretend I'm not here," Jacob says as he gathers some firewood. The wolves, both from Uley's pack and Black's pack, are going to gather to roast marshmallows. Apparently, your accident has brought out a friendlier side of Sam, who, upon learning about the end of your relationship with Edward and that you could have died, decided to be less of a jerk.
"I love you for protecting me. But I need a moment alone; it's been a month since all that mess happened. Every time I move, it feels like someone is behind me, watching. Your father doesn't even go fishing anymore because he doesn't want to leave me alone at your house. You guys go out as a pack and leave me behind. I just want to be able to exist without constant surveillance." You take a good look at Jacob's sulky face, a smile forming on your lips as you see him getting conflicted.
"You're on your own now, then," Jacob says after much reluctance. You quickly walk towards him and wrap your arms around him tightly, feeling the pieces of wood he was holding press against your back.
"I promise I'll survive without your supervision. Not that I don't appreciate you trying to keep me safe," you say, still holding Jacob close. He drops the firewood on the ground and wraps you tightly in his arms. It’s comforting to be so close to him, but your mind is filled with guilt—guilt for being a hypocrite. You ended things with Edward because you felt insecure about his closeness with Bella, yet here you are, wrapped in Jacob’s embrace. When you pull back slightly, your face is close to Jacob's, and as you look into each other's eyes, you can feel that he's thinking the same thing as you… that if you got just a little closer, you'd be kissing.
"We can't do this again. You need to sort things out with Cullen before we mess up our friendship with romantic feelings," Jacob whispers near your face. You nod in agreement, understanding that you need to figure out how you feel before doing anything else.
"I don't know if there is anything to be resolved. Edward loves Bella, that is the only certainty I have." You say, feeling a tightness in your chest as you admit this. The snow begins to fall gently between the trees. Jacob looks at you softly, as if he's carefully considering the best way to respond.
"And you love me. Is it fair to demand that he stop loving her while you continue to love me?" Jacob sounds so rational that it scares him. He has never said anything so frankly before. It makes you think, think about what you want with Edward, with Jacob and especially with yourself. Then you sigh feeling the cold air surround the two of you.
"Since when did you become so wise? The man I love could barely decide whether he wanted to be a leader or not. Jacob Black, congratulations on becoming so intelligent but I am not prepared to face certain truths." You say, picking on Jacob. He smiles and then walks away from you, picking up the pieces of firewood from the ground and walking beside you, down the path to his house.
The rest of the day seems to go by so quickly, you and Jacob avoid bringing up the subject of Edward and Bella. Lea and Seth arrive to make the bonfire with you and Jacob when it is already getting dark. They bring you marshmallows to toast over the fire. Your mind however is on Edward, wondering what he is doing; whether he has gotten back together with Bella, whether he thinks you are a hypocrite or whether he has already given up on you.
"When are you going to give your vampire a chance? He seems almost as desperate to see you as you are to see him," Leah says, approaching you. At this moment, it's just you and her near the fire, waiting for Seth and Jacob to return. You find yourself at a loss for words.
"I don't have a vampire, and I'm not desperate to see him. I also doubt he's desperate to see me; he hasn't approached me once since our argument. But I hardly see how that's any of your business," you say, being rude, perhaps defensive. Leah smiles awkwardly but stays close to you.
"Jacob warned me that if I brought this up, you'd react like this. But I trust you understand that since we're part of the same pack, it's like we're family. So I allow myself to meddle in your life as if you were Seth," Leah says, and you realize that even though the two of you aren't very close, she is part of the same pack as you.
"Sorry for the harsh way I responded. I've been pretending for so long that nothing is happening, and facing someone telling me what I need to hear rather than what I want to hear is tough. Thank you for your honesty. I'll work on resolving this situation," you say, trying to be more friendly, while watching Leah make an expression that seems to say, "It's good that you're listening."
"Don't interpret what I said as me rooting for you to end up with Cullen. Personally, I like how Jacob acts when he's all lovesick over you. But it's better if you sort things out with the cold one before anything else. I know how complicated romantic matters can be," Leah says, and you understand that she knows very well what it's like to have a broken heart.
"When Jacob gets back, tell him I'll be back soon," you whisper as you move towards your car. Leah gives a slight smile, seeming to understand what you're about to do. As you get into the car, you try to gather your thoughts, wondering if you're really ready for what you're about to do. You're going after Edward more confused than ever, without knowing exactly why you're going. Is it stupid? Probably. But your heart tells you that you need to try one more time, that it's worth it.
You arrive at the Cullen's house in a hurry. In your head, the sooner you talk to Edward, the sooner your reconciliation will be. However, before you can go to Edward, you manage to spot Bella and Edward inside the Cullen house. They are talking to each other, their faces extremely close to each other. Edward looks happy, you can see that the two of them are moving towards reconciliation. You take a few steps back towards your car. It's obvious that you should let Edward be with the woman he loves.
"Are you leaving without saying goodbye?" You hear Edward's voice behind you. You're unsure whether to turn to look at him or not.
"It was a mistake to come here, nothing more appropriate than for me to leave without being noticed." You say without turning around, still heading towards your car. Edward then uses his vampire speed and stops you from getting into the car, standing in front of the car door.
"It's been thirty days, twelve hours, and twenty-five minutes since you and I were together. The only mistake here is that you took so long." Edward says as he walks towards her, slowly as if he was afraid. Maybe he's like this because he's afraid you'll do what you always do, leave.
"It seems I took the right amount of time, at least it gave you time to get back together with Bella. Imagine if I had arrived a little earlier, what a mess it would have been." You say sarcastically, looking at looking with some anger at his ex. Edward gives a forced smile before looking at you in disbelief.
"Your temper is our problem. Always jumping to hasty and erroneous conclusions. You know me so little..." He drawls, moving closer. You step back from his approach, replaying the vision of him with Bella in your mind.
"I'm the problem, Bella is the solution. Do the right thing and keep her by your side." You speak insultingly, while looking firmly at Edward.
"I have always preferred problems to solutions. Bella and I are trying to be friends, she was just having dinner with us before going to see her mom. As for the two of us..." Edward smiles mischievously, coming closer, you tremble a little. A feeling of insecurity takes over your body.
"We should try to be just friends. Don't you think?" Your fear of failing in yet another attempt at a relationship with Edward, makes you prefer to simplify your relationship.
"I already have enough friends..." Edward whispers as he looks at you with a gaze that exudes sensuality. And in that moment, even though you knew that his heart hadn't been beating for a long time, that his skin was as cold as a blizzard, you felt a warmth. It's like something burns inside you, every moment the distance between you and Edward decreases. It's like your body is in withdrawal from his icy touch, like your soul needs to belong to him at least one more time.
"This game you're playing is extremely dangerous. Are you sure you can handle the consequences?" You say, looking at him, but focusing mainly on his parted lips. Lips you miss feeling pressed against yours. Edward must have read your mind because he smirks for an instant.
"This is more about you accepting the consequences. Once you stop pretending you don't want to be with me, will you be able to not screw this up?" Edward says as he gently runs his hand through your face. His fingers stop beneath your lips, lightly groping them. You stare at him waiting for the next step, the next move that will be made by him. But he seems to be static. As if he was expecting something too.
"Am I going to ruin this? You're on a date with your ex right now. I don't think you have any right to criticize me," you say with a small laugh, stepping back a little from Edward. "It's a shame I can't kiss you right now," you add, still smiling slightly. And then, before you know it, he's moving towards you, swiftly closing the distance, kissing you abruptly. His lips are slightly dry, and for a moment, the kiss feels rigid, like you're both relearning how to kiss each other. But as soon as you wrap your arms around Edward's neck, pulling him as close as you can, the two of you find your rhythm again.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Harry suddenly growls, and you vaguely see the outline of his body as he straightens up from the couch.
Curious, you watch as he stalks over to you, his large hand coming out to snatch onto the blankets and rip them back.
“Shit,” you breathe, recoiling away from the frigid air. “The fuck are you doing—”
“You won’t stop fucking shaking and it’s fucking annoying,” he snaps as he climbs onto the mattress beside you. “Move.”
A tad stunned, you blink at him. “I—seriously, what are you doing—”
“I’m trying to get some goddamn sleep,” he huffs, as if it were obvious. “But I can’t with your fucking teeth making so much goddamn noise. So, I’m gonna fucking hold you until you stop shivering.”
“Like hell you are,” you snort, already wiggling away from him. “The whole fucking point of us finding another room was so that we didn’t have to share a bed. Remember?”
“Yeah, well, that was before your teeth started doing the tango,” he retorts. “Now shut the fuck up and cuddle me.”
“I—Harry. I’m not going to cuddle you, that’s gross—”
“Oh, grow up. God, you are so fucking dramatic. We’re adults—”
“Yeah, but we’re not in fucking Twilight. Okay, Jacob? I don’t need your doggy heat to warm me up—”
“My doggy heat? The fuck does that even mean? I wasn’t gonna hold you doggy style—”
“Yeah, you’re not gonna hold me at all—”
“For fuck’s sake,” he seethes for a second time before his arm is extending across the space between your bodies to latch onto your hip and drag you closer.
You don’t have the time to protest before your face is being squished into his chest as he pulls the blankets back up.
Your brain is the next thing to freeze as you take a moment to comprehend what the fuck just happened.
And why you aren’t fighting it.
Because much to your dismay…he’s right. Again. Instantly, this is significantly better, and you can already feel the movement return to your toes as you take a deep breath.
And suddenly, you realize that he’s…everywhere. Against you, around you, inside you. Well, his smell is, anyway. The subtle scent of his cologne making a home in your lungs.
And it’s…nice. A masculine vanilla, of sorts. Comforting.
…ew.
And while your first instinct is to reach up and shove him away…you don’t. Instead, your hands come to rest on his chest as you feel each curve and dip of his strong body. Maybe you’re too cold or too tired, but whatever the case, you don’t fight it.
“You can’t do this,” you choose to mumble, despite the fact that you do nothing to stop it.
He simply snorts under his breath. “Already am.”
You shift but don’t pull yourself out of his arms. “I can’t breathe.”
“You’ll get over it.”
Your eyes narrow, even though he can’t see you.
For a moment, the dark room falls quiet. The sound of his breathing above you is soft and you feel his body rise and fall with each one. It nearly lulls you to sleep as the heat begins to surround you, much like his arms have.
“Why are you so mean to me?” you hear yourself whisper, momentarily stunned by the words that came from your own throat without permission.

Your new life as a vampire started shortly after turning eighteen years old, knowing you’d be stuck on that number forever, you wanted to make the best of it and bring good into this world.
However, because of the age you were at the time you had changed, it had you developing a mental trauma. A little while later, you started hunting down newborns, mostly teenager ones who couldn’t control themselves as you brutally kill them. It didn’t feel right in the beginning, but than you started seeing this more of a calling and what you were meant to do for the world. You believed you were doing a good deed for the world by making the streets a little safer to walk on day or night.
As you would hunt them down, you would turn it into a little game as a source of entertainment. At first, you start out by chasing them mockingly as you knew they were very much aware of your presence, which is followed by a hysteric and manic like laughter sprouting from your dead lungs. When it finally leads to the deadly encounter with you in dark alleyways, you take that opportunity to sneak up behind them and rip their heads from the rest of them before starting the fires. This activity unexpectedly begins to scare you a little, but fighting against the urge for a kill is stronger than your resistance as you continue doing so. You kept this up until after meeting your mate, Edward Cullen. Even the first little while of your relationship with Edward started off a bit rocky, as you both realize how mentally unstable you are and soon enough, the rest of the family had become aware before they had started to do whatever to help you overcome these urges.
Instead of giving up on killing completely, you had switched from killing newborns to killing the criminals that walked the streets, some even involved the most dangerous street gangs. You kept this hidden, or at least you tried to as you keep forgetting Edward can read minds. After finding out this side of you, he confronts you and you admit it with such shame you never felt before. Once the dark secret was out, Edward had come up with a solution that could either work in your favor or do the complete opposite. The idea was to attend Forks High School together as new students, and that’s where you meet best friend, Bella Swan.
You shared more classes with Bella than you did with Edward. How you meet is quite amusing, it was during gym class and you were playing volleyball. When she smacked the ball over the net, it hit you and she immediately comes to you with rushed, yet sincere apologies.
“I’m sorry! I told them not to let me play.” Bella says.
“It’s fine, really. No harm done.” you promise, smiling reassuringly at her.
From them on, you both become about as much inseparable as you and Edward were, loving the fact you studied at the same school together.
Not long after Bella learns of the vampire world, you trusted her enough to tell her of your past while expecting harsh judgment. But you were pleasantly surprised when she sat there with you, listening to you with any judgments whatsoever. Bella was your next go to for a shoulder to cry on, she was a good listener, best friend. In return, you offer her your ears as well and little advice.
Edward was pleased with the fact the solution was solved, and so it was.

This Love Came Back To Me - Chapter 4
It's Finally Here!!!! I can not apologize enough for how long this took to get out. But here it is! I hope you love it.
Summery- I was completely overwhelmed with this looming dread. This wasn’t just about Bella anymore. Though that was bad enough, this involved me now. Despite how often Edward disregarded my safety and despite how desperately Carlisle tried to protect me from this;
My life was in danger.
It was never going to end was it?
Word Count- 11,920
Warnings- Vampires- and all the things that go along with vampires (blood, biting, age gaps, sparkling, dramatics) a lot more swearing this time. There's some minor injuries and some very minor character death. mentions of vomiting (2 actual vomits, due to injury) Battle, fighting and planning. It's all very happy I promise.
There is no imprinting and there never will be <3

While I tried very hard to sleep, I really just laid in our bed curled up next to Carlisle with my eyes closed. Like Bella, I refused to not be in the clearing with them while they met with the wolves to train. I knew sleep was important and yet I couldn’t calm my mind.
He chuckled as I started again “Y/n?”
“I can’t turn my brain off…”
He lifted my chin so he could see my face better, “I can tell. Is it something I can help ease?”
“Maybe…” My eyes met his and I found just enough courage in them to ask my question. “Before us… Was this common?”
“I’m not sure what you mean-”
“Like, before you met me, and Edward met Bella, how often did you guys have to prepare for war?”
“I see. Well, I can’t say that we’ve ever had much of a reason… before now.” He ran his hand through my hair. His confusion still lingered on his face, “Why do you ask, Dove?”
I didn’t want to scare him. I didn’t want to make him worry that I was scared of him or of this life we’d made, but the panic attack earlier wasn’t the first and wouldn’t be the last. My heart beat just a bit faster, he held me tighter.
“I’m worried- only a little- that this will never end. I feel like around every corner there's just more danger. I just keep waiting for the dust to settle and for things to calm down… but what if it never does?”
He listened to my every word and when I’d gotten it all out he moved to his side. I shifted so our faces could be even with each other. He held my face again.
“I have faith that this will pass.” He brushed back the hair that had fallen onto my face. “In just a few days, we’ll have taken care of the newborns and hopefully their source-”
“But we don’t know their source,”
“Yet. But we will. Then soon we will catch Victoria. The Volturi will be quiet for a while, even more so once Bella is a vampire. We’re caught in some turbulence right now, but it will pass.”
“Except once we are vampires, then we’ve broken the treaty and the wolves will be after us. And we can’t seek solace with the Denali’s because they’re mad at us. And the Volturi might give up once we’re vampires or they could just pick another reason to chase after us to get at Edward and Alice.” I took a deep breath
“Is this what you were crying about earlier?” When I nodded he sighed, not out of anger or frustration, but there was something like sadness in it. Like he was only upset that I had carried this with me all day or that he wasn’t sure how to ease some of my worry.
He started again “I know it’s hard to see right now, but things will calm down. At the very least, you’ll be much less fragile than you are now.”
I almost smiled, “I guess I’ll feel a little better when I’m nearly indestructible. I could fight alongside you. It would be easier to breathe through.”
He winced slightly, “We’ll… cross that bridge when we come to it. Hopefully we never have to.” he kissed my forehead and pulled me into his chest, before resting his chin on my head. “We’ll take it day by day and figure it out together. You should try to rest, Cara. It’s going to be a long night.”
With his arms around me and his comforting words replaying in my head, I was finally able to fall asleep. It felt like I’d just barely closed my eyes, but when he woke me again it had been over two hours.
It was still hard to keep my eyes open as we walked into the clearing. Almost everyone had gotten there before us, save for Bella and Edward, who were only a minute behind us. Jasper looked much more relaxed, Alice looked like she already couldn’t wait for this to be over. Rosalie also didn’t seem terribly excited but Emmett ran over to hug me.
“Hey guys!” He greeted the four of us. “Bella, Y/n, are y’all practicing too?” he said with a smirk.
“Definitely not. I’m more of a ‘cheer from the sidelines’ kind of girl, but you guys have fun.” I laughed.
“Thanks, Y/n.” Edward grimaced. “And, Emmett, let’s try to not give them any ideas.” He said them, but I knew he meant Bella. I smiled at him anyway.
Calisle took my hand again and I pushed in closer to his side. “When will our guest arrive?” He asked Edward.
“A minute and a half-” He continued, but I missed the rest of what he was saying while I wondered how he knew. I wondered if people's thoughts sounded different from further away, or if he could see their surroundings through their thoughts.
I consciously reentered the conversation when Bella asked “They’re coming as wolves?”  and sharply turned my head towards Edward.
He nodded, cautious of our reaction. I winced and looked up at Carlisle. I’d never seen them as wolves before, and I wasn’t sure that I was all that excited to see them now. I didn’t think I’d be able to tell them apart enough to keep up.
I heard Edwards sharp intake of breath, saw the slight hint of a smile grace his lips. “Prepare yourselves- They’ve been holding out on us.” Which was one of the most confusing things he’d said.
Clearly, I wasn’t the only one who was confused. “What do you mean?” Alice demanded.”
He just shushed her, which was… unhelpful to say the least.
Carlisle gave my hand a quick squeeze before dropping it and they all moved to their positions. This part was easy to grasp, though I was given the rundown before meeting the others here. Rosalie would almost be at the start of the line, but she would also be a few steps behind Emmett. Jasper knew the most but Emmett was the muscle, so they would be the closest to the wolves. Carlisle fell in line next to them, because he was our diplomat and held most of the pack's respect.
Edward, of course, would have been up front as well, but we knew Bella would be glued to his side, so he stayed back. Alice stood to the left of me with Bella on my right and Edward to hers.
“Damn,” Emmett whistled “Did you ever see anything like it?”
I couldn’t see what they were talking about, so I studied their shock. Carlisle and Edward looked the least shocked, but the others looked like they couldn’t believe their eyes. Bella, thankfully, looked as confused as I felt.
“What is it? I can’t see” she whispered.
“The pack has grown.” Edward murmured into Bella’s ear,  though I was sure it was only loud enough for our family to hear.
The clearing was still and silent and despite how hard I tried, I could not see what they were still taken aback by. I watched the shadowy forest until I caught just a glimmer of something beyond the trees. Bella gasped as she counted in twos. I wished I could tell what she was counting.
Edward muttered something else, but I missed because Carlisle took a casual step towards them. I knew the plan. Edward would translate, Carlisle and Jasper would lead. Every one of their breaths was planned out yet my heart stuttered as he stepped away.
“Welcome,” he greeted, what looked like nothing except flickers of sparkling… eyes? Were those eyes? They were so high up, I would have guessed they were in the trees.
“Thank you,” Edward responded,  his voice flat and unlike his normal tone. I guessed in an instant that he was matching Sam’s tone. I had to choke back a laugh as he continued. “We will watch and listen, but no more. That is the most we can ask of our self control.”
I rolled my eyes.
Carlisle nodded once and answered, “That is more than enough. My son Jasper-”  he motioned towards him, but Jasper didn’t move or even breathe “-has experience in this area. He will teach us how they fight, how they are to be defeated. I’m sure you can apply this to your own hunting style.”
“They are different from you?” Edward asked for Sam.
“They are all very new- only months old to this life…”
Carlisle explained newborns in a cautious and practiced way though the rumble from the treeline seemed more excited than cautious. Even as they settled lower to the ground their excitement was palpable.
When Jasper walked further into the clearing my eyes focused on him. He didn’t seem to acknowledge the group behind him at all, but still spoke loud enough for them to hear. He continued Carlisle’s description of the newborns and I think my blood froze over. I had heard most of this before, but it all seemed more daunting in the clearing.
In front of me stood everyone I could lose in the next four days. I couldn’t bear the thought of it. As Emmett stepped up next to Jasper, I looked at my feet. Alice wrapped an arm around my shoulders. I was beginning to wonder if I should have stayed home when I heard the boys start practicing.
Around them, everyone froze. It was over quickly, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of them until it was. Emmett and Jasper moved too quickly around each other for me to fully understand each movement. Jasper was always just a step ahead of Emmett. Emmett was always just a touch too slow to get his hands on Jasper. And then Jasper was behind Emmett, his teeth hovering just above his neck.
Emmett swore.
It sounded like everyone let go of the breath they were holding at the same time. There was even a rumble from the trees.
“Again,” Emmett insisted.
“It’s my turn,” Edward protested from Bella’s side. Bella tensed, but said nothing. I’d guessed that she probably couldn’t get any words out now if she tried.
But it was actually Jasper who spoke up next. “In a minute. I want to show Y/n and Bella something first.”
I froze as my name was spoken, not terribly excited to be acknowledged. Alice gave my shoulder a light squeeze before skipping over to him.
He continued, “I know you worry about her, I want to show you why that’s not necessary.”
I very much did not want to watch this fight, but I never took my eyes away. She seemed so small in the clearing. Jasper floated quickly around her, never really touching her, even though it looked as though Alice never moved. She stood there, smiling, with her eyes closed.
I was completely in awe of her.
I blinked a few times trying to focus only on Alice. I watched as Jasper reached out, but his hands continued to find nothing but air. She was like a fairy, disappearing and reappearing just out of his reach. Their every move matched the others. It was mesmerizing. But as quickly as it had started, Alice was on his back and playfully biting his neck.
“Gotcha,” she said and she kissed his throat.
“You truly are one frightening little monster.” Jasper chuckled.
There was more rumbling from the treeline, but it was impossible to make out what was going on. I glanced quickly at Edward.
“It’s good for them to learn some respect,” He murmured, amused. Then he spoke louder. “My turn.”
Alice traded places with him instead of returning to my side. I was fine with it, knowing Bella needed the support this time. “Cool, huh?” she asked us.
I only nodded, but Bella managed the word “Very,” as Edward met his brother in the middle of the clearing.
Alice pulled closer to Bella and for a second it looked like she was whispering to her, though I couldn’t hear a thing. Not wanting to intrude I shifted my gaze to find Carlisle. He, of course, was intently watching the boys in the field, but I guess he felt my eyes on him and he turned to me.
When his eyes met mine, we were the only ones in the clearing. His eyes were clear, his smile was confident. It was steadying. I took a deep breath and smiled back at him. He looked back at Edward and Jasper first, but I did have the confidence to watch them as well.
They were evenly matched. Where Jasper relied on his instincts, Edward read his moves in his head. Where Edward had speed, Jasper had experience. It went on for longer than the rest. Neither of them ever really gained the upper hand. There was a chortle from where the wolves lurked that made both me and Bella stiffen.
Carlisle cleared his throat.
They instantly broke apart, laughing and grinning at each other like nothing happened.
“Back to work,” Jasper agreed. “We’ll call it a draw.”
As Edward returned to Bella, Carlisle walked up to Jasper and my chest tightened.
It wasn’t as seamless as Jaspers and Edward's fight. Carlisle was deliberate with every blur of motion. It was hard to watch, not only because I could barely see them in the dim morning light but this was Carlisle and the fight felt so real. He didn’t hiss or growl the way the others had. He was calm and calculated. Every move he made mattered and every step he took had a reason. He moved like a well-oiled machine. He moved like he was over three hundred years old and had done this a hundred times.
And Jasper still managed to lay him out flat on his back.
I gasped and squeezed my eyes shut. I knew I didn’t need to panic, but my heart picked up a beat and Bella grabbed my hand. I opened my eyes to thank her only to find that Carlisle had made his way over to me.
He smiled warmly at me and his eyes lightened slightly. He placed a cool hand on my cheek. “It’s only practice, Mon Coeur. I’m alright.”
“I know…” I felt a bit silly and didn’t add that it was only practice right now. That was the thing about practice, it normally led to something real. I dusted grass out of his hair.
There was more grumbling from the trees that I could only assume at this point was the wolves. A small, mischievous smile danced across my face and I placed a hand on his cheek before leaning up to kiss him. There was another grumble then a huff. I laughed and held on a bit tighter to him, if only to resist flipping off the trees.
This time Carlisle fell in line beside me and his arm stayed firmly around my waist. We returned to silently watching the rest of his family practice.
During each fight Jasper spoke little bits of instruction. He was an excellent teacher which did make me feel kind of sick. I hated to think about how many times he had to do this. I hoped it didn’t hurt him to do it now.
He seemed confident and encouraging, despite my worrying. “Just like that. Concentrate on the sides.”  His words were smooth even as Emmet threw him around. “Don’t forget where their target will be. Keep moving.”
Carlisle watched every move. It was probably easier for him to keep up. While Jasper and Rosalie fought, all I could see was a blur of blonde. Even Emmett seemed tense during that one. Carlisle seemed to analyze everything. I held on to his arm for support.
Edward watched beyond the trees. As the morning turned to day and the sun started shining a bit more in the clearing, Bella looked more and more tired. It got to the point where I genuinely thought she’d fallen asleep standing there. Edward caught on to my thoughts and whispered to her. “We’re about finished.”
Jasper nodded confirmation and turned to face the treeline where the wolves lurked. His calm and collected demeanor returned to his usual tense and brooding one. “We’ll be doing this tomorrow. Please feel welcome to observe again.”
Edward agreed in his Sam voice. The humor of it was still not lost on me. Then he turned towards us and said “The pack thinks it would be helpful to be familiar with each of our scents- so they don’t make mistakes later. If we could hold very still, it will make it easier for them.”
“Certainly,” Carlisle said to Sam. “Whatever you need.”
For a split second the forest seemed to rumble to life but just as quickly, everything stilled again. There was only the buzz of anticipation bouncing between Bella and me.
I don’t know what I imagined but it definitely wasn’t this. They stalked towards us and my breath caught in my throat.
Their eyes glowed and they were huge and there were so so many of them. I didn’t make a habit of hanging out with actual wolves, but they had to be so much smaller than the beast crawling towards us now. I’d never seen anything like it. I understood the others' reaction from before.
The one who led the pack had to be Sam. Even as he creeped forward I could tell he would tower over me. More than the fact that he was the lead, he was the biggest and there was something so familiar in his eyes, it had to be Sam. I wanted nothing more than to bury my face and hide in Carlisle’s chest, but doubted heavily that that was an option. I was still shocked and frozen when he stepped up to smell Carlisle.
In any other circumstance, I would have laughed, but my brain was still reeling. Sam winced then looked at me. I gave him a soft smile and he nodded once before he moved on to Jasper. I searched the rest of their faces for anyone else I recognized, but fell short. I thought I’d at least know Jacob, but I only caught him when I saw the way Bella looked at the russet colored wolf.
When it registered for her too, she lit up and he looked just as excited. The way the three of them existed together resembled magnets. Bella fit perfectly at Edwards side and still leaned in closer to jacob. And Edward seemed a bit more at ease when Jacob stepped up- like the pack made him nervous but Jacob was a steady comfort.
Honestly, I wished they would put aside their drama and see what was right in front of them.
Of course, he just scoffed. Bella looked up to notice everyone was watching their strange interaction. When her eyes met mine she smiled softly in understanding but Edward sighed and asked her “Ready to go?”
Before she could answer he glared back at Jacob. Anything that had been between the three of them was tense again.
“We’ve not quite figured out all the details yet.” Edward answered an unasked question. I might have thought he was speaking to me if it wasn’t for the way he glared at Jacob.
Sam, as well as Jacob, seemed bothered by his response. I wondered what had been asked.
Edward continued, “It’s more complicated than that, don’t concern yourself; We’ll make sure they’re both safe.”
What are you talking about?” Bella demanded.
“Just discussing strategy.” Edward  answered casually, though I could clearly tell there was something more to it.
Jacob looked confused as well before he took off back into the trees. Everyone seemed to still: Carlisle pulled me closer to him. Bella looked hurt. I wondered if I’d missed something. The others followed after Jacob.
When Jacob came back out though, he was alone and human again. I breathed a sigh of relief for Bella knowing that she wouldn’t have to miss half of a conversation that was clearly about her.
However, as Jacob got back to them, I noticed that Carlisle wasn’t pulling me into him so much as pulling me closer to Edward and Bella. Whatever they were discussing, he wanted to be a part of it too. I was glad we were on the same page.
“Okay, bloodsuckers, What’s so complicated about it?”
“We have to consider every possibility,” Edward said,  his tone was understanding. “What if someone gets past you?”
Jacob was less understanding, “Okay, so leave her on the reservation. We’re making Collin and Brady stay behind anyway. She’ll be safe there.”
Bella glared at Jacob, “Are you talking about me?”
“He definitely isn’t talking about me,” I said under my breath. Carlisle chuckled.
Jacob continued, this time a little more understanding of our presence, “I just think it would help to know what their plan is for the two of you during the fight.”
“You can’t stay in Forks.”
Carlisle nodded and added, “If someone got past us, it’s the first place they’d look.”
Bella’s eyes met mine as we had the same thought. Her face was paler than normal as she forced the thought out. “Charlie?”
“He’ll be with Billy,” He assured her, “If my dad has to commit a murder to get him there, he’ll do it.”
“There’s a game on Saturday. That’s enough to get him down there without more blood shed.” My voice was breathy and I was thankful that Carlisle still held on to me. Bella’s thoughts were all over the place. She drifted off on a sidebar that had both Edward and Jacob chuckling while I weighed my own options.
I didn’t want to stay in La Push. Not that there was a problem with La Push exactly, just that it felt like everything was happening around me all of the time and while I wasn’t excited to be involved, I was this time. I also had no interest in being in the clearing when the fight was happening.
So that left me wherever Bella was. And brought their conversion back into my focus.
“You could hide them here…” Jacob waved his hands around him at the forest around us.
“That… seems impractical.” I said. There wasn’t anywhere to hide out here and with Bella’s luck, I didn’t like the idea of her being so close. The only upside being that the Cullens and the pack would be able to get to us quickly if things did go south- Then again so could the newborns.
Edward agreed with me, “Their- Our scent is too strong and combined with mine and Carlisle’s, especially distinct.”
“It’s what they’re being trained to look for. We’re hoping they’ll catch ours and come straight to the clearing, but-”
“We’re not sure exactly which path they’ll take because they don’t know yet. If they crossed her scent before they found us..”
I swear the three of them made the same pained face at the same time. Carlisle held me tighter.
“You see the difficulties.”
“So what’s the middle ground? Can’t stay home, can’t stay here. What makes this work?” I asked.
“Wait a sec- My scent disgusts you, right?”
“Hmm, not bad.” Whatever was in Jacob’s head seemed to make sense to Edward because he decided to call over Jasper.
Edward breathed a heavy sigh and Jacob held out his arms to Bella. Nobody moved.
“We’re going to see if I can confuse the scent enough to hide your trail,” Jacob explained.
Bella still didn’t move. She only looked more confused. I watched, silently preparing to bolt the second anyone tried to pick me up.
“You’re going to have to let him carry you, Bella” Edward said, completely unbothered. Bella frowned.
Jacob called her a baby. Then his eyes flicked to mine. “Y/n is easier to hide. Even Carlisle had a hard time finding her when he tried. I think if she just walked in front of you, you should be able to cover her scent. It’s just Bella who can’t touch anything.”
Relief washed over me. Carlisle chuckled and kissed my head. When Jasper made it over to us Edward explained the plan again, though I was certain he’d overheard.
Both Edward and Jacob looked at me. Bella just looked pouty. “I guess I’ll scout ahead.” I joked before leaning up to kiss Carlisle’s cheek before walking into the trees.
I walked far enough ahead so I wouldn’t disturb any conversations between the two that needed to be had. I also needed to focus on my footing and the amount of steps I’d taken into the woods. Jacob kept up enough that if I looked over my shoulder I could see them. After a minute or two I felt confident enough to turn, and loop back to the clearing. I resurfaced further away than I thought, but I didn’t get lost.
It was just Edward and Carlisle when we got back, and while it looked like they weren’t having the most pleasant conversation, Carlisle’s face lit up when he saw me. I couldn’t help but skip over to him.
When Alice and Jasper were back and Bella was on her own feet again she asked “Well?”
“As long as you don’t touch anything, Bella, I can’t imagine someone sticking their nose close enough to that trail to catch your scent.” Jasper grimaced. “It was almost completely obscured.”
“And there was no trace of Y/n at all. I wouldn’t have even known she was there if I hadn’t watched her walk in front of them. A definite success.” Alice agreed.
“And it gave me an idea.”
“Which will work,”
“Clever,” Edward agreed.
“How do you stand that?” Jacob muttered.
I laughed, “You get used to it. And sometimes, if you wait long enough, they fill you in!” It made at least Carlisle laugh. Bella still looked at Jacob sympathetically.
Edward ignored us and turned to me and Bella to explain. “You two are going to leave a false trail to the clearing. They’ll come exactly the way we want them to without being careful about it. Alice can already see that this will work.”
“But me? How would I help in this situation?” I figured this experiment proved that I was untrackable.
“Not ‘untrackable’- just not easy to track.” Edward said. “But they have your scent memorized. If you touch everything-”
“And with nothing following you to cover it up-” Jasper added.
“They’ll have no issue. Then when they catch the rest of us in the clearing, they’ll split up and try to come at us from two sides. Half will go through the forest, where her vision suddenly disappears…”
“Yes!” Jacob cheered. I wasn’t sold on his enthusiasm but Edward smiled at him.
Their comradery was only cut short when Edward scowled at Jasper. “Not a chance,”
“I know, I know.” He wasn’t exactly smiling, but definitely plotting. “It was just a thought.”
“What are you thinking?” If I could read anything in Edwards sharp shift in demeanor, whatever it was was never going to happen. Yet I couldn’t help the curiosity.
“If either of you were actually in the clearing, it would drive them insane. They wouldn’t be able to concentrate on anything but you. It would make picking them off truly easy…”
“Absolutely not.” I said at the same moment Carlisle said “It’s out of the question.”
“Of course,” he backtracked. “It would be far too dangerous.” Though he didn’t seem convinced it wouldn’t happen.
Jasper chuckled under his breath and took Alice’s hand again. They walked back over to the others and I tried not to weigh the option.
Not Bella, never Bella… but me. Could I be there? I shook the thought out of my head and returned to what they were saying.
“-it’s thoroughness, not callousness.”
Jacob snorted.
Another moment passed between the three of them that they seemed completely unaware of. Jacob moved closer to Edward, Bella moved closer to Jacob, without letting go of Edward. Time didn’t move around them.
But Edward refocused on the logistics. “I will bring Bella here Friday afternoon to lay the false trail. You can meet us afterwards and carry her to a place I know. Completely out of the way, and easily defensible, not that it will come to that. I’ll take another route there.”
“And then what? Leave them up there? With just a phone?” He was annoyed somehow. At least fed up with our plans.
“It’s not ideal, but it should be safe enough… Unless you have a safer alternative.” Carlisle remained patient with him.
Jacob lit up, smug but ready to share his thoughts “Actually I do?”
“Oh again, not bad at all.” Edward smiled so warmly at him that part of me wondered if there was pride on his face.
Jacob smiled back at Edward before facing Bella, if only to keep her involved in the conversation. “We tried to talk Seth into staying behind with the younger two. He’s still too young, but he’s stubborn and he’s resisting. So I thought of a new assignment for him- cellphone.”
“And, Carlisle, you can bring Y/n out here early Saturday so her false trail is a bit more fresh. Then, Seth can walk her up the mountain to meet up with Bella and swap places with Jacob. Distance isn’t a problem?”
“Nope.”
“Three hundred miles?” That’s impressive.” The way he looked now only proved that it was pride on his face before. It was even brighter this time.
I looked to Carlisle to see if he’d caught what I had. He smiled like he had. I was a bit overwhelmed with all of the training and the new information and the battle strategies, but it was nice to know that we were still on the same page about this.
“It’s a good idea.” Edward was hesitant, like he was afraid of revealing more than he meant.
“Having Seth Clearwater there is very comforting.” Carlisle said.
Edward nodded, “Even without the instantaneous communication. I don’t know if I’d be able to leave Bella there alone. To think it’s come to this though! Trusting werewolves!”
“Fighting with vampires instead of against them.” Jacob added in mock disgust.
“Aww, our little cliche is coming to a close.” I joked.
“Well, almost. They’ll still get to fight some of them.” Edward said. His smile did not fade.
Jacob beamed at him, “That’s the reason we’re here.”
~~
Carlisle carried me home. I was unaware just how tired I was, but when he held me I fell asleep almost immediately. I didn’t even wake up when he placed me in the bed. I really slept too. I didn’t dream or budge, I just got the rest I so desperately needed.
I only got up when I felt like I couldn't physically sleep anymore. Carlisle, of course, was right beside me, reading a book with a title in a foreign language.
I cuddled into him. He threw his arm around me allowing me to lay my head on his chest, all without disturbing his reading, still he placed his book on the nightstand. He kissed the top of my head.
“Good Morning, Dove.”
“Hmm… What time is it?” Based on the light that came through the windows, I didn’t think it was still morning, not that I’d correct him anyway.
He glanced at his watch. “Just after 2pm.” I was a bit surprised that I’d slept that late but was grateful for it. “Would you like to go downstairs for coffee?”
When I nodded, he helped me get upright. I steadied myself against him then leaned up to press a quick kiss on his lips. We broke apart and he took my hand leading me downstairs.
“The others are in the kitchen talking.” He told me. I nodded, though when we rounded the corner I noticed they weren’t talking much. Emmett sat on the counter and Rose was standing between his legs, facing the others. Alice was cutting fruit and dropping them into a bowl in the running sink.  Jasper was making coffee.
I knew all of this was for me. It still surprised me how generous they all were.
Alice looked up and smiled at us, like she had been expecting us. “Good morning, you two!”
I smiled back at her. “Thank you… for all of this.” I gestured to the whole of the kitchen. They laughed.
“It’s no trouble at all, Y/n.” Jasper pushed a cup of coffee across the counter to me. It was perfect- That wasn’t a surprise, atleast. He looked at Carlisle, “Alice said earlier that their numbers are down to twenty.”
She hummed and handed the fruit bowl. “Nineteen, now.”
Emmett frowned, “They’re picking themselves off…” He almost sounded disappointed. Knowing him he probably was.
“It will be an easy fight then.” Carlisle clearly still didn’t feel any of Emmetts excitement.
“If we can make Bella cooperate…” Alice was annoyed.
They all looked at me. I popped a grape into my mouth. “What’s she planning?”
“She doesn’t have a plan. She just wants to be in the clearing.”
My brows furrowed. “And that would be bad?”
She said “Very” and at the same time Jasper said “That depends on who you’re asking.”
My eyes darted between them, waiting for one of them to elaborate.
Jasper spoke first. “Her scent would drive the newborns crazy. They’d go straight for her. We could wipe them out and clean the whole thing up nice and easy.” His confidence made Emmetts grin grow wider.
“Would she- or me, I guess- would we be safer-”
“Absolutely not!” This time it was Alice and Carlisle who spoke at the same time.
I looked at them, my eyes wide. After taking a bite of an apple slice, I said “Take a breath. I don’t want either of us there, really. But if it’s safer- for all of us, I’d like to at least consider the option.”
“The fight would be easier but you both would be more of a distraction. It wouldn’t be safe.” It was the first time Rosalie had spoken and if I’m being honest, it caught me a bit off guard. “If anyone lost control…” she winced and trailed off.
Carlisle finished her thought. “Or if any one of them got past us, you two would be all that they could focus on- All any of us could focus on.”
“Exactly!” Alice added. “They’d be focused on you. We’d be focused on you. It would make us too vulnerable.”
“So… more dangers than benefits? We’ll stick with plan A.” I took a slow sip of my coffee and Alice sighed.
She took out her phone and had it to her ear before any of us could ask who she was calling. “Edward…” She said it as if in answer to our unasked question. “I warned Bella that I’d tell you if her plans got more defined. She plans on trying to find a way to the clearing, but she just gets lost. You have to make her understand the dangers. Y/n gets it.”
Whatever he said made her soften a bit, then she said “She’ll listen to you.”
He said something and she agreed before hanging up. I took another strawberry out of the bowl and ate it. “In my defense, I would try to stop Bella before she wandered aimlessly into the forest.”
They all laughed. “It’s a valiant effort, but she’s too stubborn. You both just end up getting lost.”
I wouldn’t argue this. I didn’t know the woods beyond the marked trails very well. I highly doubted I would have any idea how to get where they were fighting from wherever they left us.
Though we would have Seth. I hated the idea of little Seth anywhere near the fight almost as much as I hated the idea of Bella being there. But I know Bella wasn’t including him in her plans, or Alice wouldn’t be able to see it. I didn’t want to give anyone any ideas so I kept my thoughts to myself and hoped Bella wouldn’t think of the same thing.
Jasper and Emmett discussed how exactly the newborns would attack. It was all very gruesome and from this conversation alone I was glad I didn’t have to be in the clearing. Also my heart hurt for Carlisle. I held his hand with both of mine while they casually chatted about how to kill these people. Feral or not, and even though we hardly had a choice in the matter, I could see the toll it was taking on him.
He would do what it took to protect his family- to protect me- but he would carry it with him for a long time. I wished more than anything it hadn’t come to this.
I think he saw me worrying. He smiled softly at me and kissed my forehead. He held his eyes closed and lingered longer than normal. I think the kiss was as much for my benefit as it was his. I let him stay for as long as he needed.
When he pulled back and our eyes met he really did look brighter. I kissed him quickly. The other boys droned on and on about the fight ahead of them, but for that moment, it was just me and Carlsile in the room. The only thing that pulled us back to reality was Alice’s small gasp and her phone ringing.
She set it to her ear and said “You can’t.” Of course it was hard not to panic , but despite her dramatics she didn’t seem too bothered. “I guess. I’ll use the time to get Charlie on board with her having a weekend with me.” She sighed and hung up again.
I couldn’t take the suspense. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothings wrong, exactly. Edward decided to sit out.” Emmett bellowed in laughter at her words. I hadn’t caught on.
I scanned their faces for any clue but found nothing. “Sit out of what?” I asked.
“The fight.” She answered, like it was obvious. I guess it should have been, but it also didn’t seem possible.
“What?” I demanded. “Why?”
“Bella asked him to. He’s going to stay with the both of you up the mountain so she doesn’t join us in the clearing.”
“But-”
She turned to face Jasper. “I’m going to go sit with Bella while he comes here to talk logistics.” She kissed his cheek and disappeared. I was stunned that they were entertaining this. Carlisle wrapped an arm around me and ran a soothing hand over my arm.
“It’s going to be fine, Cara.” he whispered in my ear.
Emmett’s booming and over confident voice filled the room “More for us then!”
I didn’t miss the way Carlisle flinched, or the way Rosalie sighed. She stood a bit straighter and walked out of the room. Emmett called after her but didn’t follow. I was tempted to follow her, but I wasn’t sure what I could say to comfort her.
I couldn’t fault her for needing to step out. All of this was overwhelming and I wasn’t even going to be there. I couldn’t Imagine what it was like on their side of this.
I matched her sigh and stood as well but only to make another cup of coffee. Before I even had time to put the pot back, Edward was in the kitchen.
His hair was disheveled so I guessed he had run here. I resisted the urge to straighten it for him and just finished making my coffee. He stood on one side of the island while Jasper and Emmett stood on the other. Carlisle came and stood by me.
It felt like a movie the way the four of them stood around the island discussing the upcoming fight. It felt like there should be a map with little flags and figurines. As silly as it was, I was happy to be a part of the discussion.
Before they could get too invested in their own plans, I asked “Bella asked you to stay with her- us?”
He softened a bit. “She did.”
“Why?”
“She… didn’t enjoy the idea of us ‘leaving’ again.” he put air quotes around the word leaving, though I could tell he sympathized with her. “I will stay with the two of you and Seth and she’ll stay out of the clearing.”
Carlisle held my hand a bit tighter and I wondered briefly what he saw on my face.
“We’ll be just fine.” Jasper added.
“Hell yeah! I can pick up his half-” Emmett was clearly perfectly fine with Bella’s decision.
As they fell into the rearrangements, I couldn’t help but understand Bella’s side. I almost wished I would have thought of it before her; wished I had asked Carlisle to sit out instead of Edward, but I could never ask him to choose between me and his family. I was completely surprised that she could ask that of Edward. It was selfish of her, but I didn’t blame her at all
I quickly turned to Edward. He didn’t act like he’d caught on to my thoughts. I hoped that if he had he wouldn’t rat me out.
They continued, unbothered.
“-We'll go hunting tonight after meeting with the wolves.”
“Seth will meet with Carlisle in the clearing to carry Y/n to Bella and Edward early Saturday morning.” Jasper was all business and Carlisle nodded.
My eyes danced between them. “Seth Clearwater is not carrying me anywhere.”
They all laughed like I'd told a joke.
“Seth will just be there as a precaution.” Carlisle soothed, “Just in case they can track you, Seth will be there to mask your scent.”
Jasper added “You walking in front of Seth while he's a wolf will be more than enough for that.”
“Oh… Right.  Good.” I was terribly uninterested in a child carrying me anywhere, werewolf or not.
“It will work.” Edward continued, though I didn't know who his words were meant to comfort. I nodded along.
I double- triple checked everything in my head. Dad would be on the reservation with Billy and the baby guard wolves. Bella would be with me and Seth and now Edward, in the mountains far enough away. My new found family- the love of my life, had trained for this and would continue training until it was time. It was a solid plan.
Though they had continued talking while I got lost in my thoughts, when Edward spoke again, he looked directly at me.
“It will work.” He said again.
I nodded once, both in thanks and acceptance.
It will work, I thought. It had to.
~~
We were back in the clearing just three hours later. The sun hadn't even really set yet. I wondered how Bella got past Dad, but I probably didn't want to know. They still showed up last.
The training in front of me was more physical than the night before. Edward only joined in when Jasper asked him to. Carlisle left me with them when he went to face off with Rosalie.
Edward stayed long enough for Jacob to join us. They chatted quietly with one another for a few moments. Clearly lost in their own world. I pretended to be distracted by the grass and tried not to think too loudly about how well they completed each other.
Edward joined the others in the clearing when they started doing two-on-one pairings. Those were equally as hard to watch. I could barely stand it when it was Carlisle against Emmett and Edward. My chest was tight and I felt like I couldn't breathe.
But then Rosalie was next to me- albeit as far from Jacob as she could possibly be. Without saying a word she took my hand. It was overwhelmingly comforting in a way I did not expect. I took a tiny step in her direction and laid my head on her shoulder. She didn't move to even breathe, but I think she did lean into me.
Carlisle got Edward down every time but Emmett was trickier. If Carlisle focused on Edward, Emmett would get him down and if he focused on Emmett, then Edward would. They tried this over and over and each time he was a bit more sure of himself.
When he finally got both of them down I had to squeeze Rosalie's hand to keep myself from cheering.
Carlisle swapped places with her answer she went against Alice and Edward. Even when it wasn't Carlisle fighting I still had the hardest time watching. I leaned into him the way I had with her.
They were good. They were confident.
The plan would work.
~~
Bella came over and stayed with us Thursday before they laid the false trail. The others went hunting and they wouldn’t be back before the fight. I hugged them all as tight as I could and tried very hard not to let it feel like a goodbye.
I had to have hope that I would see them all again. It made me sick.
They left while the sun was still up. Carlisle held me close as I watched the treeline they disappeared into. I was still standing there when Edward and Bella pulled in.
I wiped the tears from my cheeks and pulled myself together before they walked on to the porch. They didn’t seem phased by me at all. Carlisle held the door open for them and I followed in behind them.
“Have you eaten?” I asked Bella.
She nodded. “I made burgers at home for Charlie and ate one before I left.”
“Good… That’s good.”
“Are… Are you guys staying here tonight?” She asked. Edward chuckled.
I looked at Carlisle and he smiled at me. I felt like I was missing something.
“We’ll be here, but I believe we’ll be in our room all night. You’ll basically have the place to yourselves.” Carlisle assured them.
Oh, that’s what she meant. Her face fell into something that looked like disappointment. I was glad that I did not have super hearing. I wasn’t sure if the house was sound proofed enough for the vampires, but I could be blissfully unaware.
“We’ll be upstairs…” Bella was leading Edward up the stairs. I had to hide my face with my hand to not laugh. Carlisle led me to the kitchen.
I knew he expected me to be hungry. I couldn’t find the energy to actually be hungry but I got the leftover fruit from the fridge. He got me a glass of water. I made a show of drinking it.
I scooted a piece of pineapple around in the bowl with my fork. “It’s… so quiet.” I whispered, in an attempt to not disturb the peace.
“It is.” He stood next to me leaning against the counter with his hands in his pockets. To anyone else he would have looked relaxed.
“How are you feeling?” I didn’t really have to ask. I’d watched his honey eyes scan the treeline a hundred times. I took note of his heavy and occasional breaths. His eyes met mine and I melted. I placed my hand on his face and just held it there. He kissed my palm.
“I’m… I am confident in our family. It’s just…” His voice was so low. I stepped closer to him and his hands rested on my waist. He dropped his forehead to mine.
“I understand.” This is scary. I wouldn’t  say that aloud though, instead I pressed in to him and said “I know. I’m here.” As soft as I could manage.
His eyes were closed. I felt him nod. I kissed his nose. He took a slow, deep breath.
I leaned back and met his gaze again. “It will be okay.” He at least sounded more confident.
~~
The next day was much like the last. Bella and Edward got up early and were already downstairs by the time Carlisle peeled me out of bed. I wasn’t expecting Alice to be home but I was more than grateful to see her.
She said she was only there to share the news about the snow storm, but she also had a private conversation with Bella. While it was happening Edward looked more and more uncomfortable but when Alice got back she looked happier than ever. Bella, on the other hand, looked like she wanted to vomit.
I did desperately want to know, but thought better of asking. Bella would tell me eventually. Worst case I could probably convince Carlisle to.
I tried not to think about the fact that I couldn’t guarantee when or if I could.
Alice left when Edward and Bella did. I hugged Bella for a long time knowing that I would see her in just over twelve hours but also fearing the worst.
“Be safe.” She nodded. “Text me when you make it up there.” She nodded again. “Stay warm tonight.”
She laughed, “I will, Y/n”
This time, I nodded. “Okay. Good.” I hugged her again. “I love you.”
“I love you.”
I hugged Edward just as tight.
As they left I called after them “Be safe!” I thought I saw Edward smile before he lifted Bella and ran off towards the clearing.
This time, Carlisle held me in his arms on the couch while I cried.
It was hours later before I settled down. He put on reruns of Buffy. I cried off and on but drank the water he brought me and ate the pasta he made later in the night. After a while he brushed the hair out of my face and asked, “How are you feeling, Dove?”
“Like the world is caving in around us.” I tried to smile at him, I’m sure it looked pathetic. “But I’m glad you’re here.”
“There isn’t anywhere I’d rather be.” He leaned in and kissed me softly. “I had something made for you. Would you like me to give it to you now?”
Hesitantly, I nodded. “What is it?”
He chuckled. “I'll go get it.” completely unsure of what to expect, I tried not to panic waiting for him to get back. Luckily, he was only gone a few seconds before he appeared next to me again. “It’s a bit soon, and I know right now isn’t the best time, but I want you to have this… Well, in case-”
“Carlisle?”
“Yes?”
“What is it?” I asked again, smiling this time. I kinda loved it when he got all flustered. In his hand was a jewelry box, but it was too long to be a ring- I didn’t have to panic too much. He opened the box and showed me before he said anything else.
Inside the box was a locket on a delicate silver chain. On the front of the locket was the Cullen crest. My hands were shaking when I took it from him. I opened it to find one side was empty but the other had a dried petal from a lupine flower.
I was crying again. “Carlisle, it’s-”
“Again, I know it’s early, and we aren’t married, but you are a part of this family. I left the other side open so you could put whatever you wanted in it…” His eyes were soft and his voice was so genuine. If he wasn’t still holding the locket I might have tackled him. “It felt important… that you should have it now.”
“It’s perfect.” I didn’t know how to express just how much it meant to me but I started with “Thank you.” then demanded “Well, aren’t you gonna put it on me?”
He laughed when I turned away from him. I pulled my hair up as he put it around my neck. As soon as it was clasped I turned back to him and flung my arms around his shoulders and kissed him like the world might not end the next day.
I kissed him like I needed it to survive.
When we finally broke apart, his hand still caressed my cheek. “Would you like to get some rest, Cara?”
“No,” my voice was breathy.
“Then what do you want?”
“I want you to make me forget the world is caving in.”
The corner of his mouth ticked up in the smallest hint of a smile. “I think I can manage that.” Then he kissed me again like he fully intended to try.
~~
I wouldn't say that I slept soundless that night but I definitely slept better than I had been.
The sun was just barely peeking through the sky as I got ready. I tried to dress warm with lots of layers but we still had to lay my false trail to the clearing. I packed my coat, some water bottles and a first aid kit in my hiking bag instead. Carlisle was already down in the kitchen making me a large thermos of hot coffee. I hoped it would last through the fight.
I fiddled with the locket around my neck for a second; still unused to the weight of it. When everything was packed, I took a deep breath, steadied myself, then met Carlisle downstairs. He smiled softly when he saw me. I kissed him every chance I got.
We walked hand in hand through the woods to the clearing. I touched everything I could. I hugged the occasional tree. But we hardly spoke at all. I felt like I had so much to say but no words to say them. I didn't want this to feel like goodbye. I couldn't let it be goodbye.
When we made it to the clearing, the sun was just barely shining but the snow had finally stopped. I couldn't believe how cold it was. Carlisle’s hand was almost warm in mine. I hated how long it took to lay the false trail and to walk to the clearing. I hated that I still had so much longer to walk with Seth. More than anything, I hated this feeling of doom that threatened to choke me.
As we broke through the treeline I saw Seth, Sam, and Leah whispering in the center. Leah was angry and was trying to get something through to Sam, though he only looked annoyed. I didn't know Leah had made the pack. Honestly, it almost made me panic more.
Carlisle pulled me into him but I was frozen in my spot. I forgot how to breathe. I locked eyes with him and shook my head.
“Y/n…” He was in front of me, his hand in my hair. “Breathe, Y/n.” He spoke slowly. This time I nodded. He was always able to calm me down. I didn't have time to panic now anyway. I took a deep breath in when he did and out shortly after.
Get to safety- then panic. I could handle that. I nodded again. He smiled and wiped a tear from my cheek.
When I tore my eyes from him I found Sam again. He was closer, but Seth and Leah held back. Carlisle turned to face them too without letting go of my hand.
“Y/n, Carlisle.” He greeted us as he walked a few steps closer. “Leah and I thought it might be safer for everyone if I walked with you two. I will have plenty of time to make it back before the newborns get here, according to your psychic.”
“It couldn't hurt I guess…” My voice sounded so weak. He chuckled.
“We should leave soon. It's a long hike.” I winced. Carlisle took my coat out of my bag before handing it to me. “We'll give you a moment…” He slung my bag over his shoulder and stalked towards the others.
I buried my face in Carlisle's chest in the tightest hug I could muster. He squeezed me just as tight.
“It will be fine, my Love.”
I took another deep breath. “It will.”
“Only a few hours.”
“Hours.” I repeated
He chuckled against me. “Faster if you let him carry you.”
“Absolutely not.” He laughed again. I leaned back to watch him- to memorize this moment. “Only a few hours… and the others?”
“They'll be here soon.”
“And then it will be over?” That one sounded more like a question.
He nodded. “Then we'll be back together.” He was confident.
And then he kissed me and it hurt my heart. I could hardly stand it. My fingers pulled tightly at his scarf and in his hair; certain that if I let go, he would disappear completely. I pulled him closer to me and he pulled me closer to him.
In only a few short hours, he would be fighting alongside our family to save mine and Bella's lives- to put an end to an army that was created to destroy us. And yet he kissed me like our timer wasn't out.
His lips pressed confidently to mine. They were firm, and soft, and sweet, and confident like he knew that this whole ordeal would be over soon and we would be together again, just safe.
He pulled away first because I certainly wasn't going to. I still chased his lips and kissed him a few more times.
His voice was low when he said “You have to go”
My breath was too shaky. I couldn't force any words out.
“I'll be right here, it will be over quickly, and then you'll be safe.”
“You have to be safe too.”
“I will be.” I looked into his eyes as he soothed out my hair. Somewhere behind him I heard a distinctly wolfy sigh. I flipped off where the sound came from.
Carlisle chuckled softly. He helped me put on my coat and wrapped his scarf around my neck. I pressed it to my face and breathed in this warm tea and fresh honey scent.
I stood on my toes to kiss him again. I said, “I love you, Carlisle.” all soft and breathy.
“I love you, Y/n.” He was soft and confident.
I found the strength to take a few steps back. I watched his eyes soften as he took in the goodbye I refused to say. He held on tightly to my hand until I got to Sam, who was a large black wolf and much closer than expected.
I squeezed my eyes closed and turned around before opening them again. A single tear fell from my eyes and left a stinging trail on my cheek. I held on to his hand until he couldn't reach me anymore. I hated how dramatic this was. I hated how much it hurt.
Seth ran ahead of us. Sam walked patiently by my side. I didn't look back at Carlisle until I was certain I wouldn't see him.
I knew I wouldn't have the strength to keep going if I did.
The hike was long and miserably cold. I almost gave up and allowed Sam to carry me a few times but my pride was too large, so we suffered. I had my headphones in and playing my music so loud I couldn't hear if he sighed at my stubbornness anyway.
And just as it became unbearable, we broke through the trees into the little clearing Edward had picked out.
Edward met us outside the tent. “Thank you, Sam, Seth.” He nodded in both their directions, but when I looked at Sam, his eyes were focused on me.
I nodded once and thanked him. I meant it more than I could put into words. He bowed his head and pressed his nose to my palm. It was cold and wet and I pulled my hand away. “Ew, Sam…” But I chuckled, and I could tell he smiled too before running off the way we came.
“Be safe!” I called after him. I heard a cocky bark in response and rolled my eyes.
Edward smiled softly at me and said “If you could give us just a moment.” I nodded and he retreated into his and Bella's tent. I could only guess that he was going to console her given that I couldn't hear much of their muffled conversation.
I sat on a rock next to Seth, who just huffed dramatically any laid down beside me. He really did look like a puppy who had been told ‘no’. I reached down and ruffled the fur between his ears. He huffed again and I laughed.
I pulled Carlisle's scarf to my nose again and closed my eyes tightly. I hoped that if I focused enough- if I could block everything out- I would open my eyes again and it would all be over. It almost worked, but Seth sat up abruptly, and let out a little bark.
Edward unzipped their tent and helped Bella stand up outside of it. I couldn't quite hear his words but Bella moaned, “Alice is so small.”
He chuckled, “That might be a problem… If it were possible for someone to catch her.”
Bella's gaze found Seth sitting in the snow next to me, then she saw me sitting on the rock beside him. She breathed my name and ran over to me. She threw her arms around me and hugged me tightly. I was a bit surprised by her sudden burst of physical affection, but grateful nonetheless and hugged her back.
Another noise from Seth stirred us both, though this one was more of a whimper. She turned sharply to Edward.
“What's wrong?” She demanded.
“He's just angry he's stuck here with us. He knows the pack kept him out of the action to protect him. He's salivating to join them.”
She glared at Seth. He huffed again.
“The newborns have reached the trail- it worked like a charm, Jasper's a genius- and they've caught the scent of the ones in the meadow, so they're splitting into two groups now, as Alice said,” He sounded proud as he stared in the direction I'd come form
As grateful as I was that he was narrating for Bella, it was hard for me to hear. I didn't have the same comforts Bella did. Carlisle was there. I felt sick.
I heard him say they'd made it to the clearing. I heard him cheer on Leah. He said to let Sam lead, probably to Jacob. I wondered if they could hear him through Seth the way he could hear them. I try to drown it all out. I tried to not think.
But then a sharp silence fell over all of us. No one breathed. No one moved. I didn't let myself guess what was wrong.
“Edward?’ I tried, but my voice was barely a whisper. He held up a hand. I purposely breathed slowly and listened to Bella's panicked breaths. I feared the worst, but if I didn't know, Bella wouldn't know either. She was just panicking. There didn't have to be a reason to panic.
A part of me shattered as Edward urgently whispered “Go, Seth.”  and while he ran off and everything shifted around me, it felt like time was frozen.
Edward pushed me behind him, Bella next to me, protecting us both from something I couldn't see yet. I tried to back further away but my back hit a wall and I noticed we were against a cliff. I couldn't run if I wanted to.
We were trapped. As if on reflex, I grabbed Bella's hand like I could protect her from whatever was coming. And even though I didn't know what was coming, I knew it was bad.
Thankfully, Bella put my question into one simple word. “Who?”
“Victoria.” He spoke her name like a curse. My stomach lurched as what he said sank in and what followed made it worse and worse. “She's not alone. She crossed my scent, following the newborns in to watch- she was never meant to fight with them. She made a spur-of-the-moment decision to find me, guessing that you both would be wherever I was. She was right. You were right. It was always Victoria.”
I was shivering to my core. I was too out of it to hope that any of us would make it out. But was grateful he'd sent Seth away. Grateful that Carlisle wouldn't have to watch me die- if it came to that. I wished briefly he'd pick up Bella and run- wished I could hide well enough to throw them off and give Carlisle time to find me.
There wasn't enough time.
Before I could even blink there were two vampires walking casually into the clearing, the sun dancing off their skin. I'd never seen Victoria. I'd never seen any vampires outside of the Cullens. They were beautiful. They were young. The woman was maybe my age, but the boy didn't even seem to be Bella's age. He was just a boy. I wanted to cry. I didn't think I could.
Nothing moved for so long. I kept my fingers intertwined with Bella's. I watched Bella's face. She never took her eyes off Victoria. My eyes danced between all of them.
I just barely caught Victoria lift her chin in Edwards direction. I stepped in front of Bella, if only to give him time.
“Riley.” Edward said in a soft pleading voice.
Everyone froze again.
Edward tried to reason with the boy. He tried to get him to realize Victoria had lied to him. I only saw confusion on his face. I wanted to see doubt.
Edward tried again from a different angle, “She doesn't love you, Riley. She never has. She loved someone named James, and you're no more than a tool to her.”
Victoria hissed at his words. Then the smallest glimpse of doubt did flash on Riley's face. Edward continued his negotiations, but it was so hard to focus on his words. The ringing in my ears muffled most sounds.
There were multiple steps between Edward and us now. Victoria monitored each step he took, trying to find the best vantage point. I swallowed a breath and her eyes locked on mine. For a moment she looked surprised, then she just looked annoyed.
Edward whispered. “Last chance, Riley.”
The boy didn't move, but he looked at Victoria like he was lost.
She snarled, but her eyes never left mine. “He's a liar, Riley. I told you about their mind tricks. You know I love only you.”
I wondered how she got him to believe her. She had no inflection in her voice. Her voice was careful and practiced, but there was no love there. Riley regained composure. Her eyes tore from mine when Edward took another half step forward.
Then there was a growl from the trees.
Seth lurked out and threw Riley to the ground. Victoria screamed. I wanted to get away- to get Bella away- but I didn't have anywhere to go. My heart was racing and as the real fight was kicking off I couldn’t keep up with everyone's movements. At times, Riley was on his feet, others he was buried in the snow. Chucks of rock landed at mine and Bella’s feet.
Not rock- chunks of Riley. I truly felt so sick.
Victoria looked torn between bolting and trying to get at Bella. While she hardly acknowledged my presence at that point, I still stood between her and Edward. She’d have to get me out of the way. I shuddered at the thought.
“Don’t go, Victoria,” While Seth was attacking Riley, Edward shifted his taunting to Victoria herself. This would end here, one way or another. Edward wasn’t going to let her get away. I didn’t want to watch it play out. But I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. “You’ll never get another chance like this.”
She hissed at him. He dismissed her connection with James. He mocked the way he’d killed him. It worked the way he wanted; She attacked him again.
Everything was a blur. There was so much happening, and because I couldn’t keep up it felt like nothing really was. There were sounds from all directions- of teeth on stone, Edwards taunting, Bellas ragged breathing- I couldn’t stay focused on one thing. I wanted it to be over. I didn’t want to see the outcome.
I’d never been so scared.
We were losing. Edward promised Victoria that she’d never get to Bella. Somehow that brought me comfort too, but their fights continued. And Seth was soaring through the air and crashing into the wall next to us. I barely managed to dodge him as he hit the snow beside us and the rocks that showered down around us too.
I got back on my feet and helped Bella to hers again, just in case we had to run. I stepped in front of her again. I tried to reassess the situation just as Riley charged towards Seth’s mostly unmoving form. Victoria was on top of Edward in the snow.
We were losing. I never thought I’d be the type to freeze, but there I was. I couldn’t do anything. I focused on Bella’s face. She was focused on her arm. When she looked at me I only saw desperation in her eyes. She winced and inhaled sharply.
I breathed her name.
All of them turned sharply to Bella when she gasped. I was still positioned in front of her, so I even had to turn to see the blood running down her arm.
Then Riley was there. His hand was in my hair throwing me out of his way before I could process what was happening. I knew I hit the ground. I felt the snow fall around me. I felt my head hit something sharp but I couldn’t open my eyes. It was all too much. I couldn't watch my sister die.
I curled into myself. I pressed my hand to my forehead. It was warm and wet and sticky. I waited for it to be over.
I heard Seth snap, followed by more sounds of teeth on stone. Then this metallic ripping that was straight from my worst nightmares. I still squeezed my eyes closed and held pressure to my head.
“Victoria!” His plea was loud and too close to me. I tried to inch away but I don’t think I moved.
Then Riley’s screaming stopped.
“No,” That was Edward’s voice, much further away and smooth. I allowed myself that little comfort. “Stay just a little longer.”
More rustling for a few more seconds followed by nothing. Everything was finally still.
I felt Seth’s nose press into my side. I still couldn’t open my eyes. He huffed and paced towards where Edward’s voice had come from.
“Get every piece,” He sounded busy. No one mentioned Bella.
That thought alone pulled me back to the present. My eyes shot open searching for her. Edward and Seth threw chunks of rock into a fire. I hadn’t even smelled the smoke.
I didn’t breathe again until I found her. She hadn’t moved an inch but I was yards away. He’d thrown me further than I noticed. I was very lucky that only my head was bleeding. None of my bones felt broken.
And Bella looked fine. In shock, but alive and fine.
It was over.
I sat up and the world spun. The sticky sweet smoke hit my nose and I threw up in the snow.

。⋆。˚🦋 Ikemen Villain Prologue 🦋˚。⋆。
Chapter 1 If Life Were A Fairy Tale...
If life were a fairy tale, it would have been easy to be happy...
We don't have to do anything we aren't allowed to do. For example...
A forest you must not enter, a door you must not open, a secret you must not know.
And...
Tumblr media
Kate: "This is all that I'm in charge of? Okay, thank you for sorting the letters."
Colleague: "You know, the one at the top is a love letter, okay? That's a big responsibility, Kate."
Kate: "All letters are equally important because it's written from a person's heart."
Kate: "Okay then, I'm off to work!"
I put the bundle of letters in my delivery bag and opened the front door of the post office.
Tumblr media
(It's even livelier today...wasn't it the social season?)
London, the Capital of the United Kingdom, is literally the most prosperous city in the world during the reign of her Majesty, Queen Victoria.
Immigrants, industrial capitalists, and aristocrats crowded together,
Everyone is living today the same as yesterday, full of worries and joys in their own way.
Kate: "Okay, let's get the work done as soon as possible!"
I am an ordinary citizen who works as a postman in such a city.
.........
(Phew, I'm tired)
As I deliver the letters to each recipient, as usual, I noticed the gas lamps beginning to turn on one-by-one.
(2 more to go...next address is...Ah)
Suddenly, a strong wind blew and one of the envelopes flew into the sky from my hand.
(Oh no oh no!)
The envelope kept flying higher across the dimly lit alleyway and chased after it desperately.
Kate: "If I lose it, I'll be in trouble...come back here!"
I kept chasing it as fast as I could and finally saw it lying on the ground.
Then I saw a man with silver hair that dazzled even in the twilight, emerging from an alleyway.
(Thank god...!)
Kate: "Excuse me, sir, please don't step on that letter..."
Tumblr media
???: "....."
When I rushed over to him, he kindly bents down and picked up the envelope that fluttered down to his feet.
???: "There you go, my lady."
He simply picks it up and offers it to me, but I find myself gazing at him, perhaps because of his inhuman good looks and the elegance of his gestures.
Kate: "....Thank you."
???: "You're welcome."
(This person's eyes are...red. So much like.....)
Tumblr media
Blood.
In the dimly lit alley, the outstretched palm, the blood-colored eyes....all of it was...
A shiver ran down my spine as if it was going to take me somewhere that wasn't real.
Man with red eyes: "Only 2 more deliveries left?"
Kate: ".....Hm?"
His mutterings brought me back to myself. Immediately, the hustle and bustle of London came back to my ears.
Kate: "Sorry, I was spacing out for a moment there----"
Man with red eyes: "Hurry up, the sun will soon be setting."
He said it in a whisper and briskly walks away. I soon see him disappear into the crowd.
For some reason, the faint scent of sweet roses lingering in the air made my heart flutter.
........
Man with red eyes: "I've made you wait, Victor."
Tumblr media
Man with long black hair: "I'm happy to wait for you for hours...So? Did something good happen?"
Man with red eyes: "Yeah. I just saw a cute little robin, with a lovely voice, flying happily."
Man with long black hair: "Heh...if you're interested in someone, then that makes me interested in them too."
.........
(That was strange. How did that man know about the number of deliveries....?)
(I don't think we'll ever meet again...since he looked like an aristocrat by the way he dressed)
I walk the streets with a feeling of relief as if I wanted to talk to him some more.
Because I love the moments when people's hearts are touched, I chose a job delivering thoughtful letters.
I have no complaints about the days I continue to deliver someone's thoughts and I think that my current routine may be a happy life that suits me.
But I also think that the world might change if I take a step forward at...on a moment's notice.
Tumblr media
(I'm not sure if it's called 'asking for something you don't have')
Kate: "Anyways, I'm glad I delivered all the letters today without any trouble."
It was then that I praised myself as if I were self-imposed.
???: "Wait!!"
(....!)

Twilight "Mates"
Have you ever wondered what the deal was with the Twilight movies and books having their vampire couples be called "mates"? Well, they aren't exactly soulmates.
I've had this information with me for literal years. I can forget what I had for lunch, but not this apparently. Now it's your turn to share in my misery.
For those that don't know, vampires in Twilight are not at all like the traditional, erotically charged vampires of modern popular media.
Like humans, vampires in Twilight can have many partners or have monogamous relationships but they cannot "break up" with their lovers and move on to new ones like humans can. At least not psychologically and truthfully enough to be in "real", new relationships. Vampire love-grief is a state or emotion they can't "forget" bc they literally cannot "forget" anything, and that's one of many unsettling things about Twilight vampires. which is why they never give up until the murderer of their mate is dead themselves, or if they are like Victoria, whoever they love the most or anything similar to their own sort of love, is dead. Either way, vampires will likely take their revenge. Vampires are forever stuck in the psychological state/personality they had right before they were turned. So they don’t respond to change all, and they really don’t need to except in special circumstances that require it, so they’re even less inclined to be psychologically adaptive. Only falling in love has the influence to significantly change them. As Meyer makes it.
Because Meyer makes it that vampire’s enhancements apply to absolutely everything.
Twilight is a romance fantasy, not a vampire tale, but there is still a marked difference to how vampires versus humans form attachments, including their romantic ones, that all comes from their particular brand of "vampirism". The vampire lore is meant to build into and support the relationship of the main couple: Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. AND how vampires form lasting romantic connections are majorly inspired by Mormon celestial marriage and the exaltation principles.
A)
In Stephenie Meyer’s world, Bella and Edward are technically soulmates and Edward in Midnight Sun claims that Alice/Jasper and Rosalie/Emmett are, too. Other vampire couples don't seem to have the Cullen "privilege" or state of being soulmates who were drawn together emotionally, though:
AroxSulpicia
AthenodoraxCauis
AmunxKebi
JamesxVictoria
Descriptions:
Aro basically arranges his own mating by courting Sulplicia This clearly is not a spontaneous or freefall progression we'd imagine for how a bond b/t soulmates.
He and Caius lock up their mates so they could avoid the same debilitating grief and vulnerability that Marcus has. It is not necessarily for their wives’ sake.
Back in ancient Egypt when he was worshipped as a god, Amun picked Kebi out of all his slaves.
James had two main reasons to stop trying to kill Victoria when he hunted her down: he wasn’t able to AND he saw she'd useful. He later sees himself as having “won” anyway because now she’s with him forever by falling for him. To me, he considers their relationship to be him “owning” her and her gift, both useful for when he needs to get the hell out of Dodge.
These particular relationships reveal feelings and circumstances of ownership and selfishness, especially on the men’s part.
If soulmate relationships are supposed to be mutually compulsory between the two people, why the emotional incongruencies, power imbalances, and clear rationalization that goes into how most of the shown Twilight pairings are formed?
And If someone is able to choose a romantic partner based on what they perceive are convenient and the motivation weren't pure-hearted or emotionally-driven...doesn’t it negate the one essential part of soulmateship? That someone out there is absolutely the best romantic option and the perfect match for you even when you didn’t choose them, and they were metaphysically given for both of your happiness?
At the same time, vampires can never forget their lover nor lose the memories of them, nor can those memories lose their sharpness, clarity and intensity. Makenna found herself still in love with Charles even after her first year as a newborn so she went back for him and turned him. He just so happened to still be in love with her after that year. Marcus literally can never forget how he feels about Didyme, nor can he feel less about her than when they first met or when they first acknowledged each other as their “person”.
B)
Soulmates (as a trope) have been depicted as anything from emotional/psychological prisons to psychologically safe havens. Sometimes both depending on the actual pairing’s dynamics, the action of the plot, and the themes of the story.
I think that the “both” sometimes happens in the romantic vision of Twilight when it comes to vampire mates.
This “both” still belies the very idea of a soulmate: that this one person is the best, inevitable, perfect, and only romantic option for one other person.
If only one pairing are definitely true and real soulmates (as Twilight claims Bella/Edward are) and most of the others are circumstantial first-come-first-serves, can we really claim that mates in Twilight are definitively a destined soulmate? Or that soulmates even exist in the world of Twilight?
Instead, Twilight vampires experience another take/revision of the soulmates trope.
C)
THEREFORE: Twilight vampire mates are not supposed to be ideal nor true “soulmates” like those proposed by Plato and those portrayed in media ever since.
There are no soulmates in Twilight. Not in either the "purest" nor original meaning of that word.
Instead, as a vampire, calling your "forever" romantic partner your “mate” is a both linguistic phenomenon and a narrative device that describes and realizes the potency, doggedness, and persistence that characterize how Twilight vampires love their "mates".
Meyer has her vampires use the term "mate" because:
Outside of the U.S. and in the U.K., the “mate” part of “soulmate” can be associated with the same word used for someone’s platonic companion or acquaintance. But in the U.S., it's used in with a scientific connotation--particularly observing nonhuman animals--. Thus it is regarded as too formal to seriously use in one’s casual day-to-day in the U.S., or it’s considered way too British and people who do use it casually do it either to be facetious or it's become a habit.
Meyer wanted to further distinguish vampires from humans and used their more animalistic, bestial qualities (their instincts to devour and attack) to characterize them as having “mates”. Paralleling them to nonhuman animals, which again, refers to how researchers and those taking care of the animals call their reproductive partners their “mate”. ironic since vampire women and girls cannot birth vampire or vampire hybrid offspring.
Twilight vampires dissociate themselves from humans, so of course they’d have a different term for their “important” lovers.
The term--or the idea behind the term--has been used in the vampire world of Twilight since before many vampires existed (Aro and Cauis) and I imagine that vampires would say, “why bother changing it now?” Unless it was a “recent” term, but no evidence suggests that.
Vampires canonically themselves don’t “change” values, philosophies, or mindsets without there being an intense catalyst, the strongest of which Meyer makes romantic (BellaxEdward) or very quasi-familial love (Tanya, Irina, Kate, and Sasha).
Soulmates, as an idea, are supposed to be nonchanging and unavoidable, or “constant”, permanent, and position two people together inevitably. The word “mate“ illustrates the circumstance of not being able to change/display a “persistence” of the bond being out of the control of the singular vampire. They cannot determine their own romantic feelings but it's because they themselves cannot "change" (no matter how slippery the substance this is under closer inspection, that's the lore we're working with). The persistence associated with the nonhuman animal mate-bond and with any sort of social bond--human or nonhuman facilitates.
And following the assumption being made about nonhuman animals collectively being more creatures of instinct than humans are, like nonhuman animals Twilight vampires are also creatures of mostly instinct. They are “slaves” to their own instincts so that they often lose control and break things and people around them if they don’t practice not to.
D)
So finally, the word “mate” in the Twilight saga seems to be an associative term to express the reality of being a Twilight vampire in love.
Irina quite literally is willing to kill and die for Laurent, a person who didn’t like her as much as she liked him because she will never be able to forget Laurent nor the times they spent together and will always feel the pain of losing him with the same intensity as the first time of losing him.
Love in Twilight appears to be perilous and futile in the sense that it regularly makes vampires risk themselves in foolish ventures to ruin those who killed their mates. Yet (emotionally as well as thematically/symbolically) love for vampires is also necessary.
It both is one of only ways they get any sort of meaning or emotional satisfaction/compensation for their changeless lives. Yet it can easily become the cause of near self-destructive revenge missions that involve other vampires, perpetuating cycles of violence.
E) Mormonism
Meyer has Twilight vampires’ culture (and the central romance) centering itself around overlaps of love and danger when the stakes are desolation and eternal loneliness or loss of autonomy/power. However, if one is also familiar with Meyer’s loyalty to her Mormon faith and the Mormon principles of exaltation and eternal/”celestial” marriages, I think they’d notice that these two principles inform and provide the structure for both vampire matings and falling in the best kind of love.
Exaltation is a principle that:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) [teaches and believes in] that mankind can reach the highest level of salvation, to eternally live in God's presence, continue as families, become 'gods' or like God, create worlds, and have spirit children over which they will govern (Wiki).
So exaltation is when you become like God, you become "eternal" and live forever. Because you ha e died and have become literally closer to God. However, it is t enough to just die and go to heaven to be metaphysically/psychologically close to God.
Celestial marriages and sealings between family members--two requirements for exaltation--ensure that the marriage and the family are preserved after death until all the persons are in heaven together as “gods”.
And having children is a huge prerequisite for starting the type of families that religious Mormons seem to believe will bring them closer to God. Sexual reproduction/procreation is understood as a godly power because it provides the means for a devout to be like the creative God himself. God who made Adam and Eve and subsequently all of humanity. God who instructed Adam and Eve to go out and "multiply".
Adam and Eve took the apple from the tree to become more like God and to live in an “eternal relationship” (Weiss142) with God, each other, and their kids. The result, according to Mormons (including the LDS), is that humans struggle to triumph over their fallen state/human nature same term the “natural man”, who isn’t wicked so much as separate and alienated from God....but in practice is imagined as truly bad and wicked. Religious Mormons believe(d) the Joseph Smith (the 1830 Mormon founder) saw and understood all this reading of Adam and Eve in his first visions and wrote it into the Book of Mormon, which al provides the justification of exaltation and celestial marriages, etc.
Vampires in Twilight are very powerful due to venom and are like gods in the DC universe/Superman kind of way, but can’t procreate sexually--instead they have changeless lives and create other vampires usually through violence and carelessness. So they are both like gods but aren’t, possessing also the “natural man” state with their “bestiality”. They are, like Superman, very emotionally detached from humans and even from other vamps. They lack this “godly” power of procreation that humans and that Rosalie envies.
However, Bella gets to have true, valid, the “best” eternal life: a celestial marriage with Edward and having an immortal child that she, like Jesus and the perfect Mormon, put her body and very existence at risk for.
In the End
The idea of mates in Twilight is reserved for vampires and the nature of mating follows the soulmate trope without actually claiming to be the trope itself.
Mates are not soulmates. It is a shallower re-invention that heavily depends on context and how language forms in a society to describe a social phenomenon set up by a steadfast interpretation of the reality of being a falling in love or entering a romantic relationship as a vampire.
To repeat myself, when vampires take or recognize a mate, it’s not because that is the one and only person the universe/higher being grants them as a fit partner, so to speak. That person isn’t a mystical other half that completes them so much as the first and only person they fell deeply in love with or wanted to be so intimate with. First come, first serve.
And the phrase above only applies when the person in love is a vampire in Twilight because it is an conventional, semi-arbitrary social term. Just how “spouse”, “girlfriend”, “lover”, “friends with benefits” are all social terms to label and describe a person who is meant to be one’s prioritized sexual/romantic partner.
So, to repeat myself, Twilight vampires are forever stuck in the psychological state/personality they had right before they were turned. Falling in love has the particular influence to significantly "change" them. As Meyer rules her lore. If they’re single and meet someone they eventually fall so deeply in love with (or become infatuated with), then that person will literally be the only person who could possibly romantically satisfy them. Ever.
In Twilight, mating can be either a decision (or coercion) or a circumstance or a mixture of both. It depends on the person’s intentions and desires and external circumstances. They must be in the right place at the right time to even be able to connect with others, as vampires are also solitary, very territorial and very violent. Still, humans similarly experience forming and getting into relationships circumstantially.

I did a happy dance when I was finish reading this. I just imagine Jasper and the reader celebrating Halloween one year dress up as Woody and Jessie from Toy Story.
Twilight
Can you do a Jasper x mom reader - bear shapeshifter?
where the reader's son is Jasper's mate. She is a single mom reader and has no other family except for her son. She and her son are bear shapeshifters. She finds out they are vampires and about the pack. She meets the major, where she basically threatens to kick his butt, if he ever hurts her only child. She is bigger than Sam when he is in wolf form. They do not find out about her or her son - he the only one who can calm her down, being bear shapeshifters until the training to defeat Victoria and her army of newborns, because Paul says something rude to the reader's son. He goes to attack the reader's son, but Mama Bear comes to the rescue. Garrett is her mate.
Wow just wow

The rain drizzled lightly as (y/n) drove her car through the winding roads of Forks, her ten-year-old son sitting in the back seat, his gaze fixed out of the window. It was a new chapter in their lives, a fresh start in a place that held the promise of something different.
"Mom, are we almost there?" her son asked, his voice tinged with excitement.
"We're getting close, sweetheart," she replied, offering him a warm smile through the rearview mirror. "Just a little while longer."
As they entered the small town, (y/n) couldn't help but feel a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. She had chosen Forks as their new home for its quiet charm and serene atmosphere, hoping that it would provide the peaceful environment they both needed.
After finding their way to their new home—a cozy house surrounded by trees—mother and son stepped out of the car. The air was crisp and carried the scent of pine, a refreshing change from the bustling city they had left behind.
"(Son's name), what do you think?" (y/n) asked, watching her son take in their surroundings.
He looked around with wide eyes, a hint of wonder in his gaze. "It's nice, Mom. I like it."
She smiled and ruffled his hair affectionately. "I'm glad to hear that."
Over the next few days, (y/n) and her son settled into their new routine. She found a job in a local bookstore, which allowed her to spend more time with her son while providing for their needs. The townspeople were friendly, and (y/n) couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging as they exchanged greetings.
One afternoon, as they explored the lush forest near their home, (y/n)'s son looked up at her with a grin. "Mom, can we show our true forms to the animals here?"
She chuckled softly. "Of course, sweetheart. But let's be careful and make sure we're in a safe area."
With a nod, they ventured deeper into the woods until they found a secluded clearing. Taking a deep breath, (y/n) closed her eyes and allowed her transformation to take over. In a matter of moments, her body shifted and grew, and she became a majestic bear.
Her son's transformation followed suit, and soon they stood side by side in their bear forms. (Son's name) let out a playful roar, and (y/n) couldn't help but join in, the sound of their roars echoing through the forest.
As they transformed back into their human forms, they shared a joyful laugh, the experience deepening their bond even further.
Later that evening, as they sat on the porch of their new home, (y/n) turned to her son. "How are you adjusting to Forks, sweetheart?"
He leaned against her shoulder, a content smile on his face. "I like it here, Mom. It's peaceful, and I like that we can be ourselves without worrying about hiding who we are."
Touched by his words, (y/n) wrapped an arm around him, pulling him close. "I'm glad we found a place where we can be ourselves, (son's name). And you know, we're a team, no matter what comes our way."
He nodded, his gaze filled with trust and love. "I know, Mom. We'll always be a team."
As the sun set over their new home in Forks, (y/n) felt a sense of gratitude wash over her. She may have been a single mom with only her son by her side, but their love and the bond they shared was more powerful than anything. And in this tranquil town, surrounded by nature and the promise of a fresh start, they were ready to face whatever challenges and adventures awaited them.
One day, as (y/n) went about her routine, she heard whispers and rumors around town about the Cullens—peculiar, pale-skinned individuals who seemed to keep to themselves. Curiosity gnawed at her, and her instincts as a bear shapeshifter urged her to investigate further.
Late one evening, (y/n) decided to venture into the forest to see if she could uncover anything about these mysterious newcomers. The moon cast a soft glow over the trees as she made her way deeper into the woods, her senses heightened.
As she walked, her intuition tingled, and she noticed the distinct scent of another creature. Her heart pounded as she cautiously followed the scent, only to come face-to-face with a massive, wolf-like figure. It was Jacob Black, in his wolf form.
Startled by the sight, (y/n) instinctively shifted into her bear form, towering over the wolf. Jacob's ears perked up, and he turned to face her, surprised to encounter a bear in the woods.
Despite her size, (y/n) didn't show aggression. She took a step back, making sure her body language conveyed that she meant no harm. Jacob, sensing her non-threatening demeanor, hesitated, his stance relaxing slightly.
For a moment, they simply regarded each other, a silent understanding passing between the two shapeshifters. Then, with a low growl that seemed to communicate curiosity rather than hostility, Jacob backed away and disappeared into the shadows of the forest.
Shaken by the encounter, (y/n) returned home in her human form, her mind racing with questions. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the story than met the eye. That night, she researched the legends and lore surrounding the Quileute tribe and the history of shapeshifters in the area.
As her research deepened, (y/n) stumbled upon references to the Cullens, vampires who lived among the humans while hiding their true nature. The pieces began to fall into place, connecting the dots between the Cullens, the wolf pack, and her own identity as a bear shapeshifter.
Over the next few days, (y/n) pondered her newfound knowledge. She was torn between the urge to approach the Cullens and the wolf pack to learn more and the caution that held her back. She knew that revealing her true nature to them could have consequences, both positive and negative.
The sun cast a warm glow over the forest as (y/n) and her son reveled in the freedom of their bear forms. They playfully tumbled and rolled through the undergrowth, their laughter mixing with the rustling leaves.
As they frolicked, (y/n) suddenly sensed something amiss. Her instincts kicked in, and she felt a ripple of danger in the air. She swiftly turned her head and froze. There, standing not far from her son, was a figure that sent a chill down her spine—Jasper Hale.
Before her son could even react, (y/n) lunged forward, placing herself between him and Jasper. Her growl resonated through the forest, and her fur bristled with an intensity that warned Jasper to stay back.
Jasper's eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and concern flickering in his gaze. But then, as if a switch had been flipped, his expression shifted, and his face twisted into a malicious grin. The transformation was instant, and the air around him seemed to vibrate with an ominous energy.
As Jasper's aura shifted, (y/n) felt a surge of power radiate from him. She hadn't expected this, and her instincts told her that she needed to defend her son at all costs. With a roar that echoed through the forest, she lunged at Jasper, her claws extended, ready to strike.
Their clash was fierce, and the ground trembled beneath them as they grappled. (y/n) fought with a ferocity born out of the need to protect her child. She was determined to shield him from any harm, even if it meant facing down an opponent as formidable as Jasper.
Amidst the struggle, a primal rage seemed to emanate from Jasper, and his eyes flickered with a wild intensity. But as (y/n) pressed her advantage, her words cut through his aggression. She spoke with a conviction that brooked no argument, threatening dire consequences if he dared to harm her son.
The message seemed to penetrate Jasper's altered state, and his defenses wavered. He retreated, his stance shifting as he regained control. The forest fell silent as the tension dissipated, and (y/n) stood between her son and Jasper, her breath heaving, ready to spring into action again if needed.
Unbeknownst to (y/n), Jasper had been grappling with his own internal conflict. His connection with her son had stirred something deep within him—a bond he couldn't quite comprehend. As the fog of his altered state lifted, he was left with a sense of confusion and a yearning for more.
Yet, in that moment, as the forest seemed to hold its breath, Jasper's focus remained on (y/n). Their gazes locked, and in the depths of her eyes, he saw the fierce determination of a mother protecting her child. It was a force to be reckoned with, and he realized that his usual methods of manipulation held no sway over her.
As (y/n) stood her ground, unknowingly guarding a bond that transcended her understanding, Jasper's curiosity about her and her son deepened. The encounter had left an indelible mark, one that would shape the course of their lives in ways neither of them could have foreseen.
The days had passed in relative calm since the encounter in the forest. (y/n) and her son went about their lives, embracing the serenity of the woods and the routines they had established. But as the sun dipped below the horizon one evening, the tranquility was shattered by an unexpected visit.
The sound of approaching footsteps caught (y/n)'s attention, and her senses tingled with unease. When Jasper and Alice emerged from the trees, her eyes narrowed, her initial reaction one of anger and mistrust. She stood protectively in front of her son, his presence a reminder of the danger that vampires could pose.
Jasper's eyes met hers, his expression sincere and apologetic. He stepped forward cautiously, holding his hands up in a non-threatening gesture. "Please, “ he began, his voice carrying a note of remorse. "I need to talk to you."
Still wary, (y/n) reluctantly allowed Jasper to approach. Her son stood by her side, his gaze darting between the newcomers and his mother. Jasper took a deep breath, the air around him heavy with tension.
"I want to apologize," Jasper said, his voice quiet but earnest. "For what happened the last time we crossed paths. It was unforgivable, and I'm truly sorry for any fear or harm I caused."
The sincerity in his voice was palpable, and (y/n) found herself listening. She glanced at her son, who offered a subtle nod of agreement. While the memory of the encounter still lingered, she was willing to hear Jasper out.
Alice, who had been watching the exchange, chimed in. "We're here seeking help," she explained, her eyes imploring. "There's a dangerous vampire named Victoria who's building a newborn army. We're trying to stop her before she puts more lives in danger."
As Jasper and Alice detailed the situation, (y/n)'s skepticism began to wane. It seemed that the Cullens were genuinely concerned about the threat Victoria posed and were seeking allies to face her. Her son's gaze held a mixture of curiosity and concern, and (y/n) could sense his apprehension.
"What do you need from me?" (y/n) finally asked, her voice steady despite the wariness she felt.
Jasper exchanged a glance with Alice before responding. "We're gathering as many allies as we can to face Victoria and her army. With your strength and abilities, you could make a difference. We need all the help we can get."
The gravity of the situation was evident in their expressions, and (y/n) nodded in understanding. She glanced down at her son, her heart heavy with the weight of the decision she was about to make. They couldn't ignore the danger that Victoria posed, and if they had the power to help, it was their responsibility to do so.
" I’ll help," (y/n) said firmly, meeting Jasper's gaze head-on. "But know this—my priority is our safety and the safety of the innocent. We won't be used as pawns in a dangerous game."
Jasper's lips quirked into a half-smile, his appreciation evident. "We wouldn't have it any other way."
The clearing in the forest was transformed into a makeshift training ground, where the Cullens, the members of Sam Uley's pack, (y/n) and her son, and even Carlisle's old friend Garrett had gathered to prepare for the impending battle against Victoria and her army of newborns.
Tension hung in the air as everyone focused on their individual tasks, honing their skills and strategies. Carlisle was overseeing the training, offering guidance and advice to the assembled group. The sun cast dappled patterns through the leaves, creating a serene backdrop that contrasted with the gravity of the situation.
Among the participants, (y/n)'s presence was both resolute and commanding. Her son, standing beside her, mirrored her determination. They had trained tirelessly, working together to harness their abilities and contribute to the collective effort.
As the training continued, (y/n) couldn't help but notice the curious glances directed their way, particularly from Paul, a member of the Quileute wolf pack. It didn't take long for his skepticism to manifest in a derogatory comment, belittling the role of (y/n)'s son in the battle.
"What's a child doing here? He'll only hold us back," Paul sneered, his tone dripping with disdain.
The comment landed like a thud in the clearing, drawing a collective hush from those around them. (y/n)'s expression tightened, her protective instincts flaring. She turned to face Paul, her gaze steely.
"Last time I checked, we're all here because we believe in this fight," (y/n) retorted, her voice sharp and unwavering. "And if you doubt my son's abilities, then you clearly haven't seen what he's capable of."
Paul's lips curled into a sneer, his hostility evident. Without warning, he lunged at (y/n)'s son, his intention clearto test the child's abilities and prove his point. But before he could reach the young shapeshifter, (y/n) moved with the speed and grace of a predator.
In a heartbeat, she intercepted Paul's advance, her movements fluid and precise. Her stance radiated power, and her eyes bore into his with an intensity that sent a shiver down his spine. He found himself immobilized by her commanding presence, her protective instincts vividly on display.
"You will never lay a hand on my son," (y/n) declared, her voice commanding and unyielding. "We're all in this together, and that includes protecting each other. If you can't respect that, then maybe you're the one who doesn't belong here."
The weight of (y/n)'s words settled over the clearing, casting a palpable tension in the air. Paul's expression shifted from aggression to a begrudging acknowledgment. He stepped back, his defiance faltering in the face of her unwavering determination.
“Now that’s impressive,” Garrett comments. “You got the mutt to silence itself.”
(Y/n) head snaps in his direction and that’s when she felt it, her world shifting with a clench of her jaws and fist she shook her head to get rid of any unwanted thoughts before moving back to her sons side.
God how could she imprint on a vampire?!
As the moments passed, the tension gradually eased, replaced by the collective understanding that they were all bound by a common purpose. (y/n)'s resolute stance sent a clear message—unity was essential for their survival, and each member of the alliance had a role to play.
The training resumed, the forest echoing with the sounds of clashing forces and the collective determination to overcome the impending threat. And in the midst of it all, (y/n) and her son stood strong, united by a fierce determination to protect each other and ensure that their world remained free from the shadows that sought to engulf it.

Please release the Carlisle cut. (Aka the meta on his gift)
@therealvinelle, I give up on you.
For a version presented by Aro to a disbelieving Carlisle, see Aro's rambly speech from chapter 7 of Nebuchadnezzar's Dream by @therealvinelle
Canon
Per canon, Carlisle's not gifted.
Gifts are extremely rare and the Cullen coven already is extremely gifted for a variety of reasons (namely Jasper and Alice showing up because Alice was drawn specifically to the Cullens)
You have Edward, Alice, and Jasper. Bella being gifted herself is very unusual to the point that Edward thinks he's broken before he finally accepts that Bella herself may have a gift.
There's no blatantly obvious implication that Carlisle is gifted, no offhand mention like even Siobhan's probably gift that's mildly terrifying, and Edward who is our expert on vampires and Cullens never brings anything up.
Carlilse just gets his "goodness" amplified the way Rosalie gets her "pigheadedness"/"beauty" amplified (per Edward, but let's just go along with it here).
The trouble is, if you look at this series entirely too deeply (which this blog does) then there's a lot of things that don't add up.
The Dots Just Aren't Connecting!
Vampires are terrifying to humans.
This is repeated throughout the series. Bella learns this as early as Twilight as Edward informs her how unusual it is she isn't on an instinctual level terrified of him ("Wow, vampires so hot, much wow" is Bella's response to this).
The Cullens are isolated at school because of this, Edward is never approached without Bella because of it (and is very surprised at the hyperventilating waitresses in the Italian restaurant), and people just instinctually don't like them.
Except for Carlisle.
Carlisle is extremely well thought of by nearly everyone in the series. Charlie introduces him to Bella as this spectacular family man, despite adopting all these teenagers, who is a literal saint and can't understand why Billy finds him strange.
He works at the hospital where, from what he can see, he's well liked by the staff and the towns people. People go to him as a doctor, this terrifying marble statue of a man, and talk to him about how they have a sinus infection today or ask him to take out their stitches.
Aro gushes about Carlisle for an entire chapter in New Moon when he's supposed to be deciding whether or not he's killing Edward, Bella, and Alice. "Have I mentioned Carlisle?" Aro asks intead.
James, Laurent, and Victoria initially have a weirdly swell time talking to the Cullens despite James being a serial killer who hunts women for sport.
Carlisle has friends from dozens of cultures across the globe, who all gladly eat people. They think he's a little crazy, but they all show up to defend his possibly immortal child granddaughter that his son made by porking a human.
What the fuck?!
Edward even notes this in canon, that he believes that Carlisle, being so immune to blood, somehow radiates this to the humans so they feel at peace. Otherwise, Carlisle's amplified feature as a vampire his inner 'goodness' whatever that is, so humans and vampires all know they can trust him instinctually.
Regardless, something weird is going on with Carlisle that isn't with the rest of the gang.
It Gets Weirder
Carlisle survives to the present day.
Carlisle, for three hundred years, was a lone nomad who walked all over the place, in other vampires territory, where they had no idea he's not after their livestock, and when he does meet them tells him all about his groovy cardboard diet they have to try.
Nobody kills him.
Nobody suspects him of foul play, of being up to something, and kills him. Nobody gets annoyed with him and kills him.
Not only that, they befriend him.
Amun, a fallen god persecuted by the Volturi who lives on the run, befriends this weird guy WHO LIVED IN FUCKING VOLTERRA. Carlisle gets to see Benjamin, whom Amun is hiding from the Volturi, and has Benjamin show up as part of Carlisle's "not army" of witnesses to defend his mutant granddaughter produced when his progeny porked a human.
Liam at least puts up with Carlisle, if not outright likes him, when Carlisle is from England in the 17th century and Liam is very very Irish and still despises the English.
The Amazonian women leave their lands, which they've never done, to defend mutant hybrid baby.
Alistair, while he does initially live, is a paranoid wracked hermit who leaves his forest, nearly makes himself an enemy of Volterra, and was willing to stay until he wigged out that Bella was going behind everyone's back and thought they were going to lose the fight.
Carlisle isn't just well liked he's--he's the hero of a shonen manga who in the last chapter gathers all the weird one-off characters together that he's befirended through the power of peace no jutsu so they can make a giant tree and save the universe.
Only, Twilight is a shojou manga starring Bella so Bella never realized the shonen anime prequel ever happened.
"Wow these people so nice" - Bella in Breaking Dawn.
And, of course, the fact that Carlisle lived in Volterra for at least 20 years, while very young, presumably bringing nothing to the table, and appears to have had an open invitation to return/left on very amicable terms.
This also isn't even getting to the fact that the Cullens got to sit down and make a treaty at all with the Quileute tribe or that any of the negotiations in Eclipse happened at all.
The Theory: Something's Going on Here
The gift, at its base, is that Carlisle is likable and persuasive. He has no compulsion, he can't make you do anything you really wouldn't want to do (hence the diet failing all the time), but generally you can't help but like him/want to trust him and at least give him a chance to speak his mind.
Rosalie should despise Carlisle, given he's the one that forced this life on her: she doesn't.
Edward took years to leave the diet/family versus immediately, and even then, oddly never resented Carlisle for what he is and became.
The only one who's not weird about Carlisle in some way is Bella, which makes sense, as she's likely immune. She finds Carlisle hot, but generally doesn't care about what he says or give him much time of day. Edward's blathering on, meanwhile, about how his dad is amazing and sexy Jesus. "Wow, he swam to France" Bella says.
This is a surprisingly powerful gift in that it means, well, Carlisle can do things like gather an army of "witnesses" in just a month's time to stand against the superpower of the vampire world. He can hold a position as a doctor. He can make treaties with the Quileute tribe. He can get people to talk to each other, slow down, and listen to him when they should absolutely not be bothering with it.
He can't make them do whatever he wants, read the diet, but he's capable of quite a bit.
Why Hasn't He Figured it Out?
Why would he? This is just how the world works for him.
To Carlisle, people are always reasonable in the end and willing to hear him out, we can all get along if we just try and everyone's good deep down.
It would never naturally occur to him that it's odd people are so nice to him or that they even are being nice to him.
Why Hasn't Anyone Else Figured it Out?
Well, you have characters like Edward who realize something is up, but it's written off.
This is just because Carlisle's so amazing. Edward never realizes that maybe it's because there's something actually up with Carlisle beyond that.
It's easy to see it as just being the way that Carlisle Cullen is. Of course everyone makes nice with him.
As a result, to @therealvinelle and I, it very much seems like a gift that is canon but is also unacknowledged/unknown to every character and not too surprising for being that way.
TLDR
Carlisle's gift is that people like him.

Anyone that writes smut. I had an idea
A Twilight poly fanfic
Jasper x Female shape-shifter x Alice
Where she imprints on Alice during the training to defeat Victoria and her army of newborn but she freaks out and runs away because she knows how protective Jasper is of Alice and the thought of making him mad scares her. But before the fight, Alice, Jasper and the reader all sit down and talk about the whole imprinting thing and Jasper turns out to be totally chill out. He like " my wife gets extra protection. I am all right with that". So the reader is really happy that Jasper is ok with her imprinting on Alice. So she protects Alice during the fight But the reader sees a newborn several yards away running towards Alice and Jasper, so the reader uses her wolf body to shield Alice and Jasper as best as she can but gets punch on her side, as she hears her ribs break both Jasper and Alice rush to her to see how bad her injuries are. As she looks at Jasper , she ends up imprinting on him right before she passes out from the pain. As she is waking up from her injuries, she see that she is not in her bedroom but as soon as she tries to get up, Alice and Jasper come into the room which turns out to be their bedroom. They ask her how she is feeling. She says as good as she can be. A few weeks after getting injured, the reader gets a call from Jasper and Alice asking her on a date. They all dress up really nice and enjoy the date which is far away from everyone else. They end up going a hotel because the weather gets really bad and they soon realize that they will have to stay for several days. While they are in the hotel , Jasper and Alice both confess they both have romantic feelings for the reader and they all end up naked and focusing just on the reader and just making her cum multiple times.
She just moans and whimpers when Jasper sits behind her, pinching her nipples, telling her how hot and pretty she is with his southern accent coming out and how much he wants her, also how turned on he is by her as Alice eats her out. Then Jasper has the reader ride him as Alice plays with her clit and boobs making the reader whimper and moan as Alice is telling her how hot she is riding Jasper. Then Alice sits behind the reader and tells the reader all the positions they are going to try as Jasper eats the reader out which makes the reader a whimpering and moaning mess, begging for more. Then they all get into the shower where Jasper and Alice praise the reader for being a good girl which makes her moan and whimper - Jasper and Alice notice this and keep calling her their good girl as Jasper lifts her up with her back against his chest and taking her thighs spreading apart as Alice goes down her knees and fingers her making direct eye contact as the reader keeps moaning. She cums again after Alice stands up and Jasper puts her down and then licks the reader's cum off Alice's fingers and moans, telling the reader how good she tastes. Then they all rinse off and then all get cuddle up in bed with the reader in the middle as she falls asleep with a smile on her face. Then she wakes up to just Alice in the room and she gets told that Jasper went to get the reader some breakfast. The reader shares how much she like the night before and how good it felt, Alice notices that the reader keeps rubbing her legs together and Alice asks the reader calling her pretty baby, if she wants to go another round which makes the reader whimper and she says yes. So Alice eats her out but tells the reader before she gets started that can't cum until Jasper comes back. Some times goes and Jasper returns and see Alice eating the reader and it turns him on so hard, that he takes his clothes off and sits behind the reader, calling her his good girl which makes the reader cum. Then Alice and Jasper asked her what positions she like to try. She blush but tells them she wants eat Alice out while Jasper fucks her from behind. Then she wants to suck Jasper's cock as she rides Alice's face. Then they do those positions and then the reader eats her breakfast after they have another round in the shower.
Feel free to add more smut
