The knock at your window frightens you. Your parents are only two doors down the hall but you can’t imagine who would be climbing up to your window at this ungodly hour. 

Then you hear it, his voice.

“Open up, love. It’s bloody freezing out here.”

It can’t be.

You rush to your window, opening it up wide to see Tom Bennett hanging on with a playboy grin on his face.

“Took you long enough.” He teases as he climbs inside. You throw your arms around him right away.

“I didn’t think you’d be back for months!” You exclaim in a whisper-shout. Your father never liked it when Tom was sneaking into your room.

“Well i’m back early, doll. Wanted to surprise you.” He murmurs into your hair as his arms squeeze around your waist. Nothing has ever felt quite as good as having you in his arms.

“That’s why you didn’t respond to my last letter?” You ask. “God, Tommy. You had worried out of my bloody mind.” You look at him with sorrow in your eyes. “I almost let myself think you were dead.”

“I’m sorry to frighten you, love. You know I never meant to, but i’m here now.” He strokes your cheek with the back of his two fingers. He clearly means it.

“I never knew how much I needed my best friend.” You say mournfully.

“Thought about you every day when I was gone.” He whispers.

His fingers trail up and down your waist. “I thought about you every day too.”

“I barely got back an hour ago, wanted you to be the first person I saw.” His words make a blush rise to your cheeks.

“Explains the sailor uniform. You clearly haven’t washed it in a while.” You tease.

“You gonna talk to someone who served your country like that? You should be thanking me for my service.” He says with mock self-righteousness. 

“Thank you.” You say nonchalantly.

“That's it? I think I deserve a bit more of a reward than that.” He says as a cheeky grin makes its way onto his face.

“What kinda reward are you wanting, soldier boy?” You ask, sensing his innuendo.

“Just a little kiss, doll.” He replies and you roll your eyes before quickly pecking his cheek.

“Happy?”

“I meant on the lips, darling. You knew that.” He lifts your chin up with his hand and brushes his thumb over your soft lips.

“Don’t…” You pull your head away and take a step back. “You know i’m not your girl, Thomas Bennett.” He always knows he’s in trouble when you use his full name like that. He hates when you’re upset with him… but he likes teasing you more.

“I just want one little kiss, then i’ll leave ya alone.” He gives you his best puppy-dog eyes with his baby blues.

“Then go down to the bar and pick a girl there.”

“I don’t wanna go down to the bar when I already got the prettiest girl in England right in front of me.” He places each of his hands on your waist as he gazes down at you.

“You shouldn’t be such a flirt with your closest friend.” You murmur.

“You shouldn’t deny a navy-man his one wish after coming back from war.” He returns.

“We both know you won’t stop at one kiss.”

“I will if that’s what you really want.”

You think on his words for a moment, nibbling on your lip that he’s so desperate to taste.

“One kiss.”

He grins and you before pulling you closer with his strong hands and then lifting one so he can guide your head until your lips meet his. It’s nothing of an innocent peck. No, this kiss is much more. He pushes his tongue past your lips and in your hazy state, you weren’t stopping him. Tom knows he might not get another chance like this so he kisses you with all the passion he can muster, hoping that it keeps you coming back for more… but it all ends too soon when you push him away gently, just enough so he gets the idea.

“What’s wrong?” He asks in a low, almost drowsy tone.

“You promised.”

“I did… but I can tell you wanna kiss me more.” He looks at you with such desire in his eyes.

“I won’t be another notch on your belt, Tommy.” You say firmly.

“A notch on my belt? Is that what you think?” He looks at you, clearly upset. “Do you not know how much you mean to me?”

“You just… sleep with a lot of girls.”

“I don’t only want to sleep with you, love. You’re so much more to me than that. I wanna make you my girl.” He says earnestly, looking you right in the eyes as he speaks.

“But I just thought-”

“Doll, your letters were the only thing keeping me sane when I was away. A girl like you is no one night stand.”

“You really mean that?”

“Of course I do. Is that why you’ve never let me kiss you before?”

You feel yourself blush even harder. “Yeah.” Your eyes fall to the floor but he lifts your chin back up right away.

He waits for a moment until you finally nod. He then closes the space between your lips and kisses you with just as fervour as before. You whine into his mouth as his hands squeeze at your waist and before you know it, one of those hands is sliding up your skirt. You let out a gasp as he begins to rub you through the thin fabric of your panties. You never knew a man could bestow such pleasure.

“Mmm, Tommy.” You whimper out.

“You like that, pretty girl?” He rubs your pearl a little more firmly now. “Why don’t you take those panties off and lie on your bed for me?”

But even with his constant need to protect you, he was the most selfless person you have ever met. He lies about being fine, and being okay just to make you happy. He wasn't. He clinged onto you like that was his soul's favorite meal. You changed his life, away from the bad and ugly of his past. You didn't need to know about it, as he presents himself as unflawed and perfect, just to keep you.

cyno, kazuha, and lyney dominate ski-ball, venti is also pretty good but its only because he cheats

DDR champions go to gaming, hu tao and itto, surprisingly nilou is really bad, she just gets overwhelmed with the speed and noises and all the flashing lights

klee loves DDR but she gets too excited to do it well, she does beg albedo to play with her though and he's...really good?

somehow zhongli never loses a claw machine? he doesn't even care for it but whenever someone wants to win a toy they drag him over to do it for them, on the other had kaveh is the worst and he's such a drama queen, begs althaitham for more mora to keep trying

childe is 50/50 with claw machines but will just make zhongli do it anyway

you know who has also never lost a claw machine? neuvillette - him and zhongli will never admit it but they get jealous if someone asks the other to help win them a toy

wriothesley, alhaitham, childe, and xiao - car racing game pros, and they're cocky about it too, ironically all of them would be terrible drivers

tighnari is too casually good at the basketball hoop games, and so is kaeya, only difference is tighnari is a good sport and will tell you that you did well anyway, kaeya will shit-talk you the whole time

razor does nothing but play on the coin pusher machines, boy is mesmerised

bennett, xiao and freminet also love the coin pusher machines so they will all play together to win each other little prizes - itto plays sometimes but just doesn't understand the timing element

diluc fucking hates pinball, only because he is SO bad at it, but he will play every time because surely he's got to get better at some point

on the other hand yoimiya and tighnari are incredible

honestly diluc is just there to hold all the tickets to cash in for prizes - he is actually really good at pacman, he just doesn't care for it much

shooting games are always won by chloride, gorou, ayato and alhaitham, but they all look like their working rather than playing a game it's kinda scary

childe gets at least 4 strikes per bowling game, and so does thoma - the rivalry between these two is insane

raiden ei doesn't play any games, she just likes to sit, watch, and buy snacks

Tom Bennett x Reader

Summary: Tom has something to prove to his father.

"And I'm not genuine? You don't think I'm genuine?"

"Are you, son?"

"I can be."

Tom stared at his father, not believing his words. He didn't know what he had been through. And Tom certainly will never tell him.

"Can you prove that?" his father asked as Tom shifted a little in his chair. "You came back from the war, but you never did anything with your life. No wife or children, do you even work?" Tom's eyes flicked up to his father's.

Tom was working yes, he worked at a local workshop fixing whatever engine was brought in.

His father knew nothing.

"I have a house."

"You were given that for your service. You never worked for it." Tom nodded. Almost three years since he was back and every time he saw his father, this was his reaction.

"You should come by this weekend," Tom said.

"You never invited me before."

"I'm putting an end to this. Come by whenever you wish, Father." Tom stood up and with that, he was off.

Douglas let out a long sigh as he stood on the porch of his son's home. Truth be told he never visited him before, and never got invited either so to have Tom invite him over, was a surprise.

Mr Bennett knocked on the door and he heard a soft voice from inside, definitely not his son.

You opened the door as you looked at the man.

"How may I help?" you smiled at the stranger.

"Oh-Uh. I'm- Douglas Bennett."

"Oh, right, Mr Bennett! Tom did mention you might come over! Please come in! Tommy's still at work but he should be home soon, can I offer you a drink?" you invited Tom's father in and soon he was sitting in the kitchen by the table. You joined him with a cup of tea for him.

"May I ask... who are you? Are you perhaps a nurse?"

"Nurse?"

"Yes, soldiers sometimes need help after..."

"Oh, no, I'm not a nurse. I'm actually- I'm your daughter-in-law." Douglas' eyes nearly fell out of his skull.

"Beg your pardon?" he was glad he was not drinking at that moment.

"Tommy said you... We got married last year, I have known him for five years now, we met during the war."

"Why didn't he tell me anything about this? He is married?!"

"To be honest Mr Bennett, I told him many many times to tell you. I told him to invite you over or at least to the wedding, but he is stubborn."

"You even had a wedding?"

"I would rather call it a small ceremony? I had a small cheap dress and it was done in like five minutes. It wasn't about the ceremony, but rather about us."

"You love my son?" to your surprise the man in front of you looked shocked.

"I really do, Mr Bennett. I truly admire him. I wish you would have seen him, he was always so brave, even when they got hit. He is a very brave and kind man."

Douglas looked into your eyes.

"Is this some sort of set-up?"

"Sorry?" you looked at him shocked.

"Are you faking this? My son is not married, he is not that kind of a man. The next thing you will tell me is that you are pregnant." he laughed but as he watched your face fall and you got very quiet, his laugh was cut short.

"I wish you could see him the way I do. He is kind and he takes good care of me. Upon hearing the news about the baby, he told me to stop working and stay home, he promised he will care for me."

"This is..." Douglas stood up. "HOW DARE YOU LIE TO ME? How dare Thomas lie!"

"Please calm down Mr Bennett, there is absolutely no need to yell. I'm not lying." Douglas' eye was caught by the ring on your finger, he took a deep breath. "I understand this is difficult to believe, Tommy said he doesn't want to tell you because you see him as a child and he hates that. That he used to behave like a child but not anymore."

Douglas nodded and sat back down.

"Darling?" came a voice from the front door. "You won't believe it, but I got the raise! Jeff said I deserve it. Where are you, Love?"

"Kitchen." you replied as Tom soon entered. He saw his father and you by the table. "So you got the promotion? Amazing news! I made your favourite, we can all celebrate."

Tom barely heard you, his eyes focused on his father.

This wasn't Tom's plan. He wanted to be home when his father arrived. Tom searched his father's eyes but couldn't read him.

"You should have told me." Douglas spoke up.

"I wanted to."

"When? When my grandchild is running around?"

"No, possibly on your deathbed," Tom replied as Douglas scoffed.

"I have a right to know that my son is married and is about to have a child."

"Oh, your non-genuine son?" Douglas pounded his fist on the table and that really got to Tom. "Don't threaten me in my own home! You are scaring my wife, yelling in front of her. Now you know, you can leave."

"Thomas, this is not okay. You going behind my back and not involving me in your life. I wasn't that bad of a father to you." You could only look between the two. You wanted to think of a way to defuse the tension.

"Maybe not, maybe you weren't that terrible, but you sure took every opportunity to make me feel like shit. I didn't tell you about Y/N because I fear you would do the same to her or the child." there it was, Tom's heart on the table right in front of his father, you reached out and grabbed his hand from the table. Offering him a kind smile when he looked at you.

"We can fix this. I know we can, Tom. I do see now that you are not a child, you have a house and a wife, and you will soon be a father. And I would like to be involved in your life, if you will allow me."

"We could visit you Mr Bennett, weekly and go from there." you suggested and both nodded.

"Then, I will take my leave, we should all think and rest up." said Douglas as he stood up.

"One moment." you said quickly getting up and rushing to another room.

Douglas looked at his son, Tom's eyes followed you until you left his sight, this was no fake marriage, no fake relationship, he could see it in his son's eyes. Tom was in love.

"Here." you soon came back to the kitchen and handed a piece of paper to Douglas. "Congratulations, Mr Bennett. You will be a grandfather." you said with a smile as Douglas looked at the photo in his hand, an ultrasound photo of a small baby could be seen and Douglas nodded.

"Thank you, and congratulations to you two."

Soon after, Douglas left your house and you set the table for dinner, Tom ate like he didn't have food for weeks.

"Your father took the news well." you said and he nodded.

"It's because you are an angel. I assumed he yelled at you, assuming this was all faked before he settled." you nodded as well. "We will get used to it."

"What made you invite him over?"

"I wanted to be here when he arrived, he said I'm not genuine, that I only have this house because it was given to me, as if I had done nothing and earned nothing."

"He sees it now. You can't fully blame him, you were a terrible child back then." you laughed a little as Tom finished eating. "He will be a great grandfather for our child."

"You really are amazing, Love." Tom said as he watched you get up and do the dishes.

"I know I am." you smiled as you soon joined him, sitting on his lap as he kissed your lips.

His arms secure around you, one on your back the other over your belly.

The audacity to think that gordo would be his father's pawn... When he. He's the one who pushed his hand to seat an 8-years old gordo being tattoed agaisnt his will despite his mom crying in the back. He's the one who dragged gordo's back to the town when he was about to leave this wolf mess with his mom. He's the one who sided with abel despite Gordo having his whole family taken. He's the one saying gordo shouldn't lead on marks feeling, but also the one who dragged mark out of the town. For years. He dragged gordo to his pack, made him had home, abandon him and said nothing to him for years. And you. You still think it's justifiable? Because he /could/ be danger? Then why tf lead him to your pack in the first place? Thomas reeks of hypocrisy, and no matter how the writer, klune, wants to spin his character in a good light, thomas is still manipulative. Manipulation can be done despite being accompanied with smiles and laughter and affection. And don't get me started on when Thomas returned to green creek.

It's not just a love story between two broken men, but also a love story between fathers and sons, and how much the weight of their mistakes can pull a person down. It's about finding a light through the anger and grief, and eventually, hopefully, forgiveness.

I can't remember if this was ever talked about or not but, does Diluc have any 'unofficially' adopted children?

What are their opinions on his harem?

So I Believe I've talked about how the haram reacts to the kids but no the kids reacting to the Harem. And I think each kid kind of has their favorite. So let's go by each kid and their favorite.

Diona

Dad protector number home. So getting close to Diluc is generally a criminal offense in here eyes. So most of the harem she loathes. Kaveh and Zhongli get bonus hate points because of their drinking habits. Itto is just too loud. Eula is probably getting judged on her reputation same with Al Haitham. But no extra hate. Albedo and Xiao she just doesn't vibe with. They are too indifferent. Ayato and Thoma get extra hate points for being dog people. The only one she really ends up liking and tolerating.... is Childe. It's partly because Childe actually put up with her and sort of knows how to deal with her. He's a family man and treats her like one of his no matter how mean she is to him. Because he knows it's not real hate. So while she still says he's gross and got cooties. She actually really likes Childe.

Bennett

So unlike Diona Bennett really like most of Diluc's suitors. He's already kind of used to having a hoard of Dads so as long as they make Diluc happy. But his favorite... It's Kaveh. Partly because Bennett... Presents Kaveh's biggest challenge. No matter what Kaveh builds Bennett can break it. And to be honestly Kaveh loves it. He loves trying to make Bennett proof things. So they just bounds and attach so well. Like he gets along with everyone else but with Kaveh. They just click man.

Fischl

So Fischl's favorite might through people through a loop. because this person doesn't reallly do kids but they both end up with a weird soft spot for each others. So it's Ayato. And while Ayato not a big fan of the kids in general he really does have a soft spot for Fischl because of her acting and her dramatic speech. He finds a lot in it actually quite admirable because it's her trying to be the person she wants to be. For Fischl part she like Bennett gets along with most of the Harem but few understand her. (Al Haitham does be he doesn't play along) But Ayato always plays along with her. He's not nearly as dramatic but he'll play any roll she gives him and he does it well and I think she understand him in a way only people who wear masks can understand each others.

Klee

So We all know who Klee (and by extension Alice) Is rooting for. Like clears as day it's Albedo But I think like Bennett Klee gets along with Kaveh really well so he's runner up. He also likes testing out building that can with stand Klee's bombs. And She loves hearing around all the homes he's made for people She also really like Thoma just because he's the best! To be fair most of the harem gets "Is the best!" treatment from Klee like even Al Haitham does because thought he doesn't smile he reads to her and probably even made protective head gear for her. I think Ayato and Xiao are the ones she likes the least. Because Ayato's smile always feel off and Xiao probably avoids her like the plague (for her own safety in his mind)

Razor

So this one really crakes me up because like Diona Razor doesn't trust a lot of the harem. He's a bit more protective of Diluc then the others (Save Diona of course) But funny enough that one he gets along with the most is Al Haitham. Because he's blunt he's straights forwards and despite being so smart Razor can always understand him. And honestly. Part of it is because Al Haitham doesn't really know how to interact with children so he kind of treats them like pets? And yeah that works Razor.

I’m distilling my thoughts about ravensong into one post.

I listened to the 20 hour audiobook in 14.5 hours, because I listen on 1.5x speed, I hate how slow normal speed is.

I really like the character development of Gordo.

I am glad that we got to see why the Bennett pack was so small, and why Gordo hated them in Wolfsong.

I am not really fond of the way wolves mark their mates (it’s not imprinting like twilight, but it’s not not that) because it really puts a lot of pressure on these children. Gordo spent his whole life around the Bennetts which meant that he never really got a chance to develop who he was outside of them. And even after they abandoned him, his actions were all driven by that abandonment.

I do believe that the pack abandoned Gordo, he was an orphan that they were not only physically responsible for but also emotionally, and if Thomas really wanted to, he could have taken Gordo with him, not only for legal reasons, but also Thomas was the alpha of all and Gordo was his witch. Not to mention he was like 15 years old.

They did not even write. Let alone call him. Phones existed.

So then after he finally moves on, and builds his own family, the Bennetts return. They basically steal his surrogate son (and anchor) and then expect him to be all good.

Obviously he’s not, but he does get over it much quicker than I think he should have.

And Mark, I don’t really like at all? It sucks that he got magically turned into an omega, and I know that he technically went with the Bennetts against his will, but at the same time, he was around 18. He could have written letters or called. He followed Gordo around so much as children, that the whole town noticed. I do not think that Gordo and Mark should have gotten back together. I think that maybe Gordo still could have been his anchor, but I think that the betrayal was much deeper than what was healed.

I still think that Robbie and Gordo should get together, I know that the next book is about Robbie and that he will be getting with Kelly, but I just think Robbie and Gordo should fuck at least once. (If I am ever motivated to write fanfiction, this would probably be it)

I really hate how Gordo got his hand cut off and no one thought “hey it right there, let’s just magic it back on” maybe it has something to do with it having been a silver blade, but Gordo can touch and use silver so it probably was not that.

Limbs can be reattached in some cases, especially a clean cut where the limb is immediately placed in ice.

I’m excited to learn more about Gavin, which based on my research is the feral wolf that’s courting Carter and is Gordo’s half brother from his dad and anchor.

Overall, fuck mark, fuck Thomas, and most importantly fuck Abel and Robert.

Note to self: Do not read Brothersong at work. It's like every significant development is just determined to make me cry in front of my coworkers, and I've cultivated a bit of a reputation here for being an emotionless reptile.

Funnily enough, this really was just a single chapter of me once again developing a very love/hate relationship with the late Thomas Bennett. What's made this worse is that this is the only book which actually follows one of his children, so the behind the scenes stuff is intense. I love him, but he put too much pressure on the boys. Carter's descent into madness has shown that even they never felt like they could hold-up to him. And of course, Carter's fight with not-Kelly doesn't feel particularly good.

I love how much Gavin legitimately cares about Carter and again, these two have created an artistry out of weaponizing their stubbornness. These two, I don't even care about them sleeping together. I just need them to hold each other close, call each other derogatory things, and pretend they don't have feelings.

Carter's guilt about Robbie is excellent stuff. I need him to actually say this to Kelly though. The healing for all of them is going to suck.

Livingstone, Livingstone, Livingstone.

I need Gavin to just murder him Beowulf style now, please, so we can get back to having mushy feelings again. Any moment now, that'd be great.

Some day drinking, some blasphemy

There is an historic heat wave during his leave. And given his wife’s and her mother’s commentary about certain guests, that wasn’t the only historic thing about this fucking garden party.

Tom has no idea how Tommy Shelby deals with it when he knows the man has the same dislike for these fuckers as he does.

“Here, let me.” His hostess and mother-in-law takes his iced tea, stirs nothing into it and then returns it to him.

When Tom takes another sip of the disgusting American version of tea, its has magically turned into whiskey.

“Reading cards and seeing the future isn’t all I do, kid.” He hates the word kid, but coming from Eva its not as bad as when it comes from her husband.

Thomas Bennett had become an officer in the navy and yet to Thomas Shelby he is still the young man who refused to be bribed away from his daughter. Looks down on him despite barely reaching Tom’s chin.

Though his disapproval is nothing like the one he gets from their guests. Well, not all of them. There were others here who came from a background just like his and had used their talents to get where they are.

Then there was the Nelsons and those who knew Diane had refused to marry the all too perfect Jack Jr.

Tom had never met the man who had been in Diane’s heart before him, and now that he knew him, he hated him with every fiber of his being.

Tom chokes on his whiskey with her casual way of delivering her message of doom.

“Oh, look, there’s Madame First Lady feeling just as jealous as you are, Tommy!” she gestures to Miss. Jacqueline Bouvier who looks at Diane in a more ladylike version of how Tom looks at Jack.

Lucky for him, Diane comes and joins them with a certain look in her mismatched eyes. One she only gets when she sees him.

“I hope you haven’t been too bored without me, Tom.” His witch takes his drink and sips it before grimacing at being sucker punched with Irish Whiskey instead of cold tea. “Jesus Christ, ma.”

“Christ wishes, mija.” Her mom said with a wink.

I've been really frustrated about the banners in Genshin because I have been playing for about 7 months [Started 4.4] and 0* Cryo 5-Stars have been featured, and only 3 Cryo 4 stars have been featured

Some things to note:

Wriothesley [Cryo 5 star] was released in 4.1, and Charlotte [Cryo 4 star] was released in 4.2, neither have had a rerun, and we are currently in update 5.0, which is 8/7 updates after their releases.

Shenhe [Cryo 5 star] has had only 1 rerun, and hasn't rerun in almost a year and a half [Her last banner was 1 year and 5 months ago, in 3.5]

During the time I've been playing, there have been 3 archon banners [Nahida, Furina, Raiden Shogun]

During the Lantern Rite event of 4.4, Shenhe and Ganyu [Cryo 5 star] were given paid skins, neither have run since then, and neither have run within the past year, as Ganyu's last banner was in 3.6, 1 year and 4 months ago.

I don't know what Hoyoverse's issue is with cryo, but it is extremely frustrating for people who want these characters but didn't get them/started playing after their last banner to have to wait over a year for a rerun, while characters like Baizhu have had multiple reruns since their last banner [Baizhu banners in 3.6, 4.2, and 4.6]

I'm hoping we get a Cryo buff before Snezhnaya, because otherwise they won't be able to fit all of these banners in without causing Cryo burnout in the community.

Idk what the point of this is, but I guess I just hate how Hoyo is shafting Cryo at the moment, because it could be a fun element to play around with if they stopped neglecting and nerfing it.

*Eula was featured on the Chronicled wish during Chiori and Itto's banner, but it hasn't returned and was formatted differently than a traditional wish, so I'm not counting it in this post.
