Two years this summer I knew it from the day I saw her We were gonna be together

"deux ans," charles says as he looks at you, a tone of disbelief in his voice. he knew from the moment he met you that he wanted a future with you, but to be here two years later was mind-blowing to him. “happy anniversary, mon amour.” his words are quiet and his fingers mindlessly trace over your skin, bringing warmth to you.

“can you believe it?” you ask, a soft chuckle leaving your lips. thinking back to when you had first met, how you were still in a relationship and charles did everything to make it known that he liked you but never crossing the line because it wouldn��t be fair to your boyfriend.

“charles, i’m sorry but i’m in a relationship,” you said, a nervous chuckle leaving your lips. you appreciated his attention, and if you were being honest with yourself, the feelings between you and your boyfriend seemed to be drifting away, something that you had never pictured happening before. you accounted the change to the chaos in both of your lives, he had recently started a new job and you were finishing up university, so the two of you were just incredibly busy at the moment. but you knew it was more than that.

so you did the thing you knew what you had to do. you ended the relationship, and after the conversation, you realized the feelings were more mutual than you thought. and while you didn’t find it to be fair to move on so quickly, you didn’t want your moment with charles to pass, so you contacted him a week later, thinking it wouldn’t hurt to see where it led.

“remember when you broke up with your ex-boyfriend so you could be with me?” charles asks, and you let out a disbelieving laugh at his words.

“it wasn’t exactly because of you, leclerc,” you say, a giggle escaping your lips as he pokes your side. “but i’m glad it happened.”

“charles, it’s good to see you,” your dad says, shaking his hand.

“it’s good to see you, sir,” charles says, and his heart is racing as his prepared speech runs through his mind. he’d been preparing for this moment for weeks now, but really it’s been years at this point. he’s known for a while now that he wanted to marry you, but now that he’s here to ask your father for his blessing, all the rehearsed words have just left his mind.

“sir, i want to ask y/n to marry me,” he says, the words rushing out of him, all the careful thought out words leaving his mouth in one jumbled sentence. “i came to ask for your blessing, but even if you don’t approve, i know i want to spend the rest of my life with her.”

charles’ eyes widen as he realizes what he said and he says, “i’m sorry, sir, that was incredibly rude. i respect your opinion very much, sir, but i love your daughter and will do anything i can to spend the rest of my life with her.”

your dad looks at him was an amused look, recognizing the younger man’s love for you, having felt similarly for your mother for countless years now. “you have my blessing, charles. just continue to treat her right if you know what’s good for yourself.”

“thank you, sir, i promise i will,” charles says, emotions flooding his mind.

“welcome to the family, son.”

It's not just picture perfect dancing in a white dress

“our first dance as husband and wife,” charles whispers as the two of you dance around, your family and friends watching the two of you. it had been the most perfect day, getting to marry the man you had grown to love so much. and being here with him now, getting to officially call him your husband… the feeling was unmeasurable.

“i can’t believe we’re actually married,” you say, shaking your head with a soft laugh.

“well believe it, mrs. leclerc,” he says softly, pressing a soft kiss to your lips which elicits a cheer from the people around you.

It's not just rainy days when nothing stops the fighting

“i’m not in the mood for this conversation, charles,” you say, an exasperated sigh leaving your lips. “i’m tired and i don’t want to deal with whatever bullshit excuse you come up with now.”

“y/n, i’ve been working! i am barely here during the season, you can’t expect me to want to clean around the house during the short time i’m here,” he yells, making you flinch.

“that’s the problem, charles! you’re never here but when you are, you make the house a fucking mess and then expect me to be the one to clean it.” you run a frustrated hand over your face, feeling the tears welling in your eyes. you quickly try to blink them away, but charles catches the change in your demeanor, quickly moving over to you.

“mon ange,” he whispers softly, using the pad of his thumb to wipe away a tear that had escaped. you wanted to move away from his touch, but instead you leaned into it, a soft sigh leaving your lips. “i’m sorry, i’m just frustrated with the team and not winning, but that’s no excuse for me to treat you like this.”

“it’s okay, charles.”

“no, amour, it’s not,” he says, gently pulling you into his arms. “i will clean up first thing in the morning, but can i just hold you right now? i think we both need that.”

you nod wordlessly, leaning into his hold. marriage was hard and the demands of charles’ job had taken it’s toll on the relationship at times, but you both knew that these lows were worth fighting through, because at the end of the day, you knew that you were soulmates.

“good morning, amour,” charles says softly, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead before pulling you closer to him. “i missed you.”

“you’ve been home all week, char,” you say with a laugh, pressing a soft kiss to his shoulder.

“i know, but i still missed you, i missed just waking up with you on a day where we don’t have anything to do.” his eyes travel to your lips and he slowly moves to kiss you, his hand going behind your neck to pull you closer. “i miss these moments when I’m away.” he continues to press soft kisses to your lips, and a giggle falls from your lips.

you loved these days more than anything. a day that it was just the two of you, nothing planned, just getting to spend time together. “i love you,” you whisper against his lips, feeling him smile as he hears your words.

okay, so I was yapping with my bestie(@inthepeachtree ), and now I'm sharing my yap session about the curtis brothers like post book. this is like super angst and does mention like struggles with food and mental health and stuff similar, so keep that in mind! this is also my opinion, so if things are ooc character, etc, I apologize :) I know you all are loved mwah<3

imagine the utter anxiety darry and probably soda have after the events.

I feel like darry wouldn't be able to sleep even though pony was back home and safe. like he would try his hardest to sleep but is tossi.g and turning until late Into the night. he's *exhausted* but his mind is screaming that pony is gone, having run away and no whwre to be found( worse if his mind was screaming pony was the one who died in the fire not Johnny and that it was all his fault) and that anxiety goes to soda who he think joined pony in running away and that now he was utterly alone which was his *worst* fear because what is he ment to do now that the two people he was living for left him? so eventually he gets up and paces around his room or makes his way out of his room and starts cleaning etc because he doesn't

a) want to worry his brothers because he's the oldest, and they don't need to have the burden of what he think he is. and b) his brothers needed all the rest they could get, especially if Pony's nightmares got *so* much worse. so he does anything to keep his mind from thinking the absolute worst. he eventually either gives up and checks on his brothers who were in their bed each hugging eachother ( he feels a ping of hurt knowing that he would never have the relationship soda and pony have but he's learned to accept it.) after checking they were in fact safe ans okay he eventually falls asleep but that shit wears him down. NOT TO MENTION the guilt he feels much about dally and Johnny. like musical him probably constantly thinks about him and days fight and he agrees with every dally says and he feels utterly guilty bc if it weren't for him they would be alive ans same goes for his parents. like that man is *struggling, but he keeps working. he also is so afraid of hurting his brothers again and is fighting with himself everytime he gets angry but on a happy note after a while his relationship with pony does get better, slowly but day by day they start to build a better relationship. bonus points if the curtia brothers find darry one night stress cleaning and end up like taking about everything and their emotions then having a cuddle session bc I stand for it. relationship

now onto soda and pony

with soda he probably is somewhat similar with needing to check that pony is safe and okay. I'm still like analysisimg soda so his might not be as detailed yk

but like, he's the type of person to like feel others' emotions, which is utterly exhausting, especially with Pony having these horrible nightmares, and he *feels* everything pony is feeling. he has had so many nights where Pony would be asleep, and he just breaks down sobbing because he can't stand to see his little brother like this. (DONT GET ME STARTED WHEN PONY WAS SICK AND IM THAT DELIOUS STATE BC DARRY AND AODA WERE GOING THROUGHT IT AND I WILL YAP ABT IT ) but soda is similar to darry about not wanting pony to worry about him because his brother had already been through so much and needs to focus on healing. he allows himself to open up to darry because he knows that his brother feels the same way, and he knows darry would rather die before ever admitting that he isn't okay. soda has found darry practically in tears in the middle of the night, trying not to wake his brothers. soda has always been better with emotions, but he's struggling with the deaths of everyone on top of Pony's horrible mental state. he feels guilty about the small part of him that still feels some anger towards darry for hurting pony but he also feels the utter pain darry feels about hurtimg pony(soda had run after pony but couldn't catch him and darry had felt so sick of himself he threw up whatever dinner he had. he also then proceeded to try to scrub his hand clean ~~no matter what he did his actions could never be undone~~) anyways like a said group cuddle session after the three of them all talk about how they feel bc God knows they need that.

now with ponyboy everything u said(this was a lot, and they can reply with what they said if they want!). It definitely is true in my mind. like he feels like everything was/is his fault and probably is near a mental breakdown/has one because they can't be gone. *they just can't* because that means death is following him and that means his brothers or two bit, ace(she is part of the gang bc I say so and I love her), he'll even steve are next ans he's not sure if he could live knowing they cpuld/will die. he struggles with food and basic needs for a while because windxcile had fuxked with him so badly. his brother worked with him a lot about trying to get him back to a healthy place both mentally and physically. it took a while but he was finally able to eat a full meal without feeling sick after a few months and darry and soda were *so proud* like soda was close to tears and so was darry. darry also struggled with food because he a)thought all the food should go to his brothers and not him bc he could live without it and b) during the time pony was going he thought why should he eat when pony couldn't? with every mistake him(darry) and pony constantly like punish themselves for the smallest things and soda tries his best to teach them that it's okay to make mistakes and tat they don't need to punish themselves.

also, I can yap about the week. Pony was gone with soda and darry bc darry was low-key, giving me not doing well vibes to me, but I can definitely go I to that.

again I'm still working on understanding ever character in the book but these are just my thoughts. if you have any comments or things to add on definitely lmk because I love to talk! love you all and lmk if you want to yap some more!!

prompt: one person pouting, only to have it removed by a kiss from the other person.

at the head of the table, charles sat with a wide smile on his face, brighter than all the lights that were flashing at him. you sat next to him, smiling just as wide as your boyfriend squeezed your hand under the table.

“c'est fou,” charles shook his head, a laugh of disbelief escaped his lips, “tout ça pour moi?” this is crazy. all of this for me?

your eyes caught arthur’s on the other side of charles. he was frowning, his own eyes rolling at his brother’s words, “et moi, mais s'il te plaît, ignore-moi comme tu le fais toujours.” and me, but please, ignore me like you always do.

“alright, alright, let’s not get carried away,” you giggled, hand already coming up to close charles’ mouth just as it opened, “no fighting at your shared birthday celebration, please.”

arthur gave you a sickly sweet smile, “me? fight with my stupid older brother? never!”

“hey,” charles pushed arthur’s head away with one finger on his forehead, “if i’m stupid, what does that make you, huh? et je suis plus âgé que toi, traite-moi avec respect.” and i’m older than you, treat me with respect.

“tu dois mériter mon respect, je ne vais pas te le donner comme ça,” arthur leaned back in his seat smugly, “essayez plus fort.” you need to deserve my respect, i won’t just give it to you. try harder.

pascale came around, yanking arthur by his ear, “tu marches sur une fine couche de glace, gamin. traite ton frère avec respect, je ne te le redemanderai pas.” you're walking on thin ice, kid. treat your brother with respect, i'm not gonna ask you again.

charles smirked, sticking his tongue out at arthur. pascale turned to her older son, rolling her eyes while smacking him across the back of his head, “charles, s'il te plaît, arrête de te comporter comme un enfant. tu as vingt-cinq ans maintenant, arrête de contrarier ton frère.” charles, please stop behaving like a child. you're twenty five now, stop antagonizing your brother.

charles frowned, hand coming up to rub his head, “ah, ok, ok. maman, vous m'embarrassez.” ah, okay, okay. mom, you're embarrassing me.

pascale narrowed her eyes at him, “tu peux penser que tu es un crack, mais tu es toujours mon fils et j'ai le droit de te gronder quand et comme bon me semble.” you might think you're some hotshot, but you're still my son and i get to scold you whenever and however i see fit.

your loud laughter caused several heads to turn your way. you hid your face behind your hands, shoulder shaking as charles whined at you to stop laughing.

“amour, please,” charles grabbed your hand, tugging it down, though you wouldn’t let him, “this is so embarrassing. defend me!”

you wiped under your eyes, hoping no makeup got smudged with the tears that formed from your laughter, “i am sorry, my love, but i can’t defend you. la mère sait toujours ce qui est le mieux.” mother always knows best.

pascale smiled at you, hand smoothing down your hair before she leaned over and pressed a kiss to your head, “ah, my favourite child,” she glared at her two boys who were looking at the two of you, “you guys should learn something from her.”

pascale walked away soon after, with arthur following behind her spewing complaints, leaving you with a pouting charles.

you giggled, “why are you pouting?”

charles’ pout deepened and he crossed his arms, moving his body away from you. to think this man had turned twenty-five today, you refused to believe it.

“oh, so i’m getting the silent treatment now?” more silence, “well, this is highly unfair. can i know why, at least?”

charles’ eyes flitted back to you. he stayed quiet for a second before breathing deeply, “you didn’t defend me.”

you held back the laugh that threatened to escape, “charles, are you serious right now?”

charles turned towards you, a deep frown on his face, “le plus grave.” the most serious.

you rolled your eyes, “you’re acting like a baby.”

charles said nothing, arms still crossed at his chest and a furrow in his eyebrows.

you sighed, “fine, i’m sorry i didn’t defend you. i promise i won’t leave you hanging like that ever again.”

his pout returned, “i don’t believe you.”

you leaned closer, lips pressing against his pout. you pulled away shortly after, charles unwilling to cave.

his pout remained, although his eyes showed slight flashes of amusement. you hummed, “guess i’ll just have to try again.”

you leaned forward once again, this time pecking his mouth multiple times before pressing a single long kiss against his lips, hard. seconds into the kiss, you felt his lips quiver, pout transforming into a smile. his teeth just barely grazed your lips before he pulled back, unable to keep his laughter down.

his shoulders shook as he shook his head, “fine, fine, i believe you.”

“good,” you smiled, leaning back in your seat, “now, stop acting like a drama queen. you’re worse than arthur.”

charles’ laughter stopped, eyes wide as he stared at your side profile. he gasped, “you did not.”

you gave him a saccharine smile, “oh, but i did.”

1) Jordan Simon Pollard was on as Javert and he is. Fucking massive. Very imposing. His silhouette on the top of the boat is crazy good

2) Harry Lake as Marius, saw him on may 14th schools matinée, god his voice is gorgeous. As usual amazing

3) the guitar riff in Work Song kind of gets me lol

4) Valjean (Chris Jacobsen) flinching when Javert lifted his hand to pass him the slip. Additionally he has a GREAT voice. Quite gentle

5) The fight where Valjean gets beaten up was a bit awkward lmfao

6) More valjean flinching when the Bishop goes to touch his shoulder

7) chris spitting "thanked him like i should" interesting delivery, quite liked it.... his "took my flight" wasnt as strong is Milan's but whateverrrrrr

8) WILL ALWAYS BE STUNNED BY ADAM PEARCE'S VOICE🔥 THE LOW NOTE ON "BOUGHT YOUR SOUL FOR GOD" YUMM

9) The "I missed" on "I missed it 20 long years ago" was very harsh, as was "mouthful" in "mouthful of bread. LOOOVE thankyou Chris. "any other" in "treated me like any other" apparently was very gorgeous. I dont remember how but thats what I have written. Then i just wrote "Holy shit". He also was sobbing a little bit between "One word from him" and "offers me my freedom" which was lovely. Then i wrote "Chris ate jesus" so thats a high commendment

10) the bassline in At The End Of The Day is so delicious always

11) I kept seeing tom hext and harry lake in the ensemble (it was, uh, a bit thin male ensemble-wise)

12) synth tones as usual heavenly I LOVE SYNTHESISERS!!!

13) the foreman was northern which was kind of funny #northrepresent

14) i think someone dropped somethijg offstage just before I Dreamed A Dream lmfao

15) Now i know that Fantine's wig cost £4000 i kind of appreciate it more. Doing my part

16) KATIE'S VOICE IS DIVIIIINE the low note she hits on "tear your hope apart" is ssoosooooooo goooode i get goosebumps bro

17) harry lake was the 2nd guy in lovely ladies though thought that was funny. He got his arse slapped on the "if you want to take all year" line . Giggled

18) javert big ass hat with the feather 😭😭😭😭😭

19) he was throwing some bitchy ass glances at the other policeman (who was harry lake. Btw) when fantine was begging whats his problem. His faces were so fun to watch hes so expressive. Hes also delightfully imposing and, as i wrote, "he's kinda fat LOVE"

20) not very homoerotic at the cart although they did get dangerously close on "brand upon his skin".

21) i loved Jordan's performance honestly, he was very curt and harsh in his lines. Makes you want to cower away when he speaks

22) i cant remember when, but Chris spat a lil during Who Am I ans i wrote "spittin a bit there Chris. Hit that shit"

23) Katie was so wonderfully and convincingly weak for Come To Me ouuhhh my heart

24) I liked the little detail of Valjean looking over his shoulder a lot when he was with Fantine... ughhhghhhhhh

25) THE LOW NOTE JORDAN HIT 🤤🤤🤤🤤 different chainn

26) good strangle. Didnt fuck it up! He was stood up rather than knelt or laid like javert usually is but thats probably a Jordan thing since ive seen Stewart thebother times. He stood up quite fast rather than writing around a bit like stewart does and thenWIPED HIS MOUTH cool whagever. Then valjean kneed him in the balls at the tousle at the end lmfao

27) TOMMMM😍😍😍 i love his thenardier withbhis gruff voice lol. He did a little shimmy on "content to be" looove. I love his gay little dance he does with his pointed toes. And he flashed the gentleman guest at the start. As usual he does the bisexual thing. He flashes everyone again after mme thenardier's "whats happened since" someones gotta stop him bro

28) chris was so gentle with cosette i could cry .

29) tom hext thenardier does this thing where he's asleep when valjean comes in until he says "pay" at which he wakes up with a snort. Love

30) cosette runs to valjean when he starts reassuring her when the thenardiers are trying to get him to spend more money snd it warmed my heart

31) tom squeaking "monsieur" in "one of our own monsieur" tickled me hes so funny. Also the jazz hands after "christians must do". I did keep getting blinded by his shiny shoe buckles though

32) chris was delightfully harsh on "too long to Forget" get his ass valjean

33) THE HUG AFTERWARDS WAS SOOOOO CUTE VALJEAN WAS CLEARLY SO TOUCHED UGGHHH IT WAS SO LOVELY I LOVETHAT SCENE SO MUCH

36) when thenardier pipes up after valjean runs off from javert he steps forward and gets choked a little itwas great. The way he goes up to javert to lean on him and the slide on his voice on "told you so" as well when he walks backwards lmfaoaoooo

37) stars was GORGEOUS . I mainly made very messy notes on Jordan's inflections during the song because i like the different delivery choices.... "face to face" was quite soft which i liked. As for "The reason why InaJap was so nice to kimido was because of Dark Emperors" hc, it sorta came to me out of the blue while rewatching s3, Mido and Kaze are good freinds despite aliea and my hc is that is the reason why everyone warmed up to them – if DE didn't happen, Kaze wouldn't feel like he understood what Reize had to go through ans that feeling of inadequicy that followed them, if this makes any sense. (Note; if DE didn't happen, they would've either A. Not even be a part of InaJap or B. Be a part of it and get treated like outcasts, kinda like Fudou.)

I honestly have ZERO idea where i got my "Kiyama sees a lot of himself in Kariya" hc, but i think it was when i was rewatching s2 and went "wow thid guy has a lot of similar mannarisms as Kariya" whenever i saw covert Kiyama+Gran

Which takes me to the, "Shuugo and Kariya are just mini versions of the aliea captains" hc, which is mostly by mannerisms. They probably unconsciously mimicked them or just adopted it into the way they do things or smthn idk. Hitomiko finds this adorable.

Ehm. Here's some of Shuugo and Kariya actually why not, mostly shuugo because... he's my favourite.

The whole "they're complete opposites of each other" bit is mostly based on my other headcanons, but also from Shuugo's recruitment needs + kariya's canon behaviour. (shuugo's talks for the both of them, and kariya in turn, insults people for fun)

Shuugo likes to fist-fight people btw, he's nice and calm, but he has anger issues, and when someone pisses him off bad he'd start fist-fighting people, which is pretty often. (Kariya in turn, gaslight people. for fun. like father like son, I guess?)

Nagumo taught both Shuugo and Kariya curse words.

Shuugo was the one who came up with the idea of Masaki transferring to Raimon (the moment he joined the soccer club, shuugo went through all five stages of grief at once)

oh yeah kariya and shuugo have a sibling-like relationship. idk if you can tell from all the previous hcs.

literally no one knew that they know each other, so one day during the match of raimon 1gun vs raimon 2gun in s1 of go, they started talking to each other post-match and everyone was just "????? since when ???" and the revelation that kariya is an orphan and shuugo knows him because his cousin(??) is the "owner" of the orphanage opened,

also because of kariya and shuugo knowing each other, the two of them (along with ichino and aoyama!) sorta become the bridge between raimon 1gun and raimon 2gun! they have a lot more joint practises and team 2 are able to play in official/friendly matches!

Also fun fact, Shuugo was supposed to have a character arc similar to Hikaru's when he was first introduced in the sequel for go s1, aka, Chrono Stone, but as we can see that never happened. Anyways, i totally do NOT have a whole ass plot and am writing a fic of this for myself. nope, Nuh-uh.

anyway. hi :) prime defenders huh. this is gonna be less of an essay and more of a sleepy ramble but ohhh i have so many thoughts. they all process things so differently and none of them are good at it they all need therapy so bad. ms.g where is the hero therapy why didnt you build that into w.a.t.c.h ma'am

vyncent is probably the best at actually processing things out of all of them, he just internalizes everything to the point where he wont talk about it unless hes pushed past the breaking point. vyncent is actually very.. emotionally intelligent? i want to say mature but that feels like im singling him out because hes the oldest. i just feel like because he grew up on Fauna and had to be in basically survival mode in a world full of monsters trying to kill you.. that makes a person grow up quicker than they should. i think vyncent had a good childhood and for the most part his parents took good care of him but just.. living in that world doesnt seem like it leaves room for a whole lot of expressing emotions. vyncent is good at quick analysis of a situation, but unless a problem directly interferes with the current goal he doesnt externalize it to everyone else. but bottling up his feelings and emotions just builds up pressure over time until something like the lich makes him blow up and let it all out at once, usually in a dramatic monologue format bc condi is really good at those god damn it. also they played off the fact that vyncent said all of that to the lich and then missed his attack as a funny thing but i like to think of it as. he got too overwhelmed w his emotions and lashed out too soon it made his fighting messy. vyncent is so angry and honestly after what hes been through he deserves to be !!!!

william wisp. my boy. god hes just like me fr so much so that it physically hurts sometimes. anyway. i always think back to the scene where theyre all in the cabin talking about themselves/sharing backstories and william keeps desperately trying not to talk about himself. the fact that hes so ashamed of his powers he hides wisp form every time. two of his powers are LITERALLY a) turning invisible and b) turning intangible, usually as an excuse to leave whatever situation hes in ("accidentally" falling through the floor at opportune moments in season 1) . theres. a thing that happens at the end of episode 13/beginning of epidode 14 that youre really close to and i wont spoil yet but god it has to do with this so extremely much please come back to my inbox when you get there. youll know what it is trust me. um. yeah. so anyway. i think a lot of this comes from a place of. he doesnt want anyone to be scared of him. williams not stupid hes incredibly smart and insightful he knows his powers are objectively SCARY. hes scared of himself constantly, he doesnt want anyone else to feel that way about him, so he shifts focus whenever those aspects of himself are brought up because if someone were to think about it for any amount of time theyd realize the truth that hes scary and dangerous to be around (<< william logic. hey remember how one of the reasons he originally left deadwood was because the monsters there were attracted to the wisps and therefore Him so he left to keep his friends/family out of danger)

i think a lot about williams death and the immediate aftermath, i dont know how much you actually know and how much of this comes later but . how does he go home after waking up from that. his parents know about his powers, so they MUST know what happened. what do you think he told them when he god home muddy and dirty and broken and probably bloody after being missing for. god knows how long. how does he look his mother in the eyes and tell her her little boy is dead. but hes also not because hes standing right in front of her. how the fuck do you think he felt the first time he went into wisp form and saw his body laying there !!! of course he wouldnt want to talk about that!!!! youre gonna have to pry william wisps emotions from his cold dead hands !!!!!!!

dakota's response to the ashe situation was to run away in the woods and do nothing but train for 10 months. he didnt think about it for 10 months. i dont even have a whole lot to say about dakota other than like. stunned silence whenever his inability to process trauma is brought up because grizzly does such an incredible job at being like "you ask dakota how hes doing and his face is just blank" << paraphrased actual quote from an episode i cannot remember which one. either 11 or 12 ?

also because im thinking about him im including ashe in this. we didnt get to see a whole lot of his canon reactions to extreme emotional situations so a lot of this is just coming from My Mind but ashe seems like hed be the type to repress a lot of his emotions too. being alone in your house/in your room for extended periods of time will do that to a guy. i think he feels a lot of things and will probably very openly cry/scream/get angry when hes alone but as soon as he knows another person is there he can immediately flip the switch to turn it all off like nothing happened. very much a deadpan "im fine." if someone asks how hes doing, even if hes got like. the remainder of tear tracks down his face. cannot physically express his emotions in the presence of someone else

AAAARGHHH HELLO MY LOVE!!!

first things first, i am SO sorry for replying so late… i saw your message but i wanted to give myself some time to reflect on all the good and bad things that have happened this summer (and thank you so much for the compliment and checking up on me!!!!)

i had so many highlights actually… i kissed someone on the second day of knowing them (and they kissed me back AAAAAAHH), made some new friends, had a guy fall for me who said the most beautiful things about me and (respectfully) pretty much worshipped the ground i walked on. i remember telling my uncle i was so eager to eat strawberry cake two hours before our neighbours brought us three pieces of a strawberry cake. i got beautiful jewelry and new clothes that i love wearing and that make me feel comfortable in them. on the last days of my vacation, i was out with my mother and her friends (which all loved me and laughed at all of my jokes!!!!). we were drinking and chilling on the beach when i got a bit tipsy and decided to swim at midnight on a full moon — after i convinced my mother that i would not be swimming! i manifested seeing my friends more often, going shopping with them and went to a club for the first time in my life. i also got my very first make up products and spend lots of time making myself feel pretty and embrace myself. on some days when i didn’t feel like doing anything at all, i went out around night time to ride my bicycle, listen to music and occasionally stopped by the smaller markets to buy drinks. i took care of many stray cats and dogs and always looked forward to feeding ans petting them. i visited many culturally significant places, went eating with family and friends, had my ears pierced for the first time ever, got gifts from people i just got to know who immediately started to like me, vice versa… i could write another five pages about what has happened during the past few months!

this is just a very vague part of the things that have happened this summer (without bragging…). my real highlight, however, would probably be the person i fell in love with but also being shown love by several people ♡ this year, i was bathed in compliments from so many people… it felt nice. indeeed, it felt amazing!

as you can see, thankfully lots of love ♡ i also had a handful of downs and moments where i totally wished for things to not be the way they were but… that’s normal i guess…

right now, i‘m looking forward for what’s gonna be the next chapter for me. i‘m gonna make up my mind the following days and aim for what i really want longterm! <3

A recent interview of Alison Mosshart from The Kills for music magazine Dans Ta Face B. Full interview under the cut and French version on their website.

La Face B : You’ve just released your sixth album, God Games, twenty years after your first record. Which means you’ve been making music together for two decades now. You’ve mentioned a few times in recent interviews being ‘terrified’ of the process of recording this album. Obviously, danger is inherent to creativity and passion. What were you scared of in particular, regarding your own history as a band? Can one as a musician actually ever get rid of this fear? Alison Mosshart : I think as an artist, fear is good. Fear keeps one alert and desirous to discover something new in oneself, in one’s work, and about the world. Fear is a simple word to describe “facing the unknown.” At the start of every album, you are facing the unknown. There is nothing, a blank page... and you have to muster up the courage to turn this nothingness in somethingness. And not just any old thing. But something truly great. Even though we’ve been writing music together for 20 years, nothing is a given. Nothing is taken for granted. We constantly must prove to ourselves and to one another that we’ve got the goods. Every record is as important as the first, at least to the artist.

La Face B : When I first heard the album, I was under the impression that I was listening to a movie sequence or a journey, with some kind of movements. You kept the traditional verse-chorus structure in most songs, but they also sound like something else. What do you think evolved the most in your music over the years? And on the other hand, is there something that definitely stayed true to your first sound?

Alison Mosshart : A couple of things. We both think the traditional verse chorus structure is a little at odds with the mind. Whereas novels and poetry and film... can veer around elegantly, it’s a little hard with rock n’ roll structure sometimes. It’s nice not following the traditional rules and allow some abstraction.

Thoughts by nature...zig zag, skip, don’t really work in liner or predictable order. Thoughts lead to thoughts lead to other thoughts say “california can’t be trusted” to “I love rollercoasters” to “Thursday’s good for me,” to “I wonder what happened to Bob?” “Green car,” “dog bit my face,” “phone’s dead again” “papercut!” And on and on and on.

Having said all that, I do think our music is very visual. It seems to contain its own colours and shapes and tactility. I know when a song is done by listening to it and seeing it from start to end. When it feels like I’m watching a play or a short film and I’m satisfied with what I’ve seen, I’m happy with the song. If I’m listening and the scene freezes, there is still work to do.

La Face B : Did having another person involved in the studio give you a different perspective on your music?

Alison Mosshart : Having another person in the room always gives you a different perspective. You know right away if a song is working by feeling the energy of that person hearing it for the first time. They don’t have to say a word. The truth is just there.

La Face B : Your lyrics almost always address another person, like a dialogue between two people. Love and hate, hope and failure, tenderness and violence blend into each other in the stories you tell. They also almost always convey a sense of urgency. Alison, do you still record and write your lyrics in your car while driving at fast speed, CARMA-style?

Alison Mosshart : Sure. We’re all contending with one another and ourselves. There is surely a lot of back and forth and push and pull going on in the lyrics. The war is never won, right? About cars, I love to drive. It’s very meditative for me. A lot of ideas come when I’m behind the wheel. I do still have a little Dictaphone in the car that I keep handy. It’s a safer option then a pen and pad.

La Face B : When I first saw you in 2011 at Rock en Seine during the Blood Pressures tour, there were two other musicians with you onstage. Lately, it looks like you’ve gone back as a two piece again. Is it important to you not to depend on anyone? Is it a way of not having to compromise?

Alison Mosshart : Different times call for different measures. We love playing with other musicians and we love playing as a two piece. During certain records, it made a lot of sense to have the back up. But it was a different time in the music industry too. We’re in a different world now 6 years later. Streaming has made it unaffordable to hire extra musicians. Which I think is ultimately a very bad thing. I hope one day things change.

La Face B : The Kills have always been a very visual band. Alison, you’re also a painter, and Jamie, I’ve heard in a recent interview that you would have loved to collaborate with Lucian Freud… Do you feel the need to explore other art forms to maintain this global approach to music?

Alison Mosshart : We’ve always painted, drawn, taken photos, filmed things. I love every art form. I don’t think it’s important to do all these things to maintain a global approach to music. I’m not sure what a global approach to music even is. I just love making art. It all comes from the same place I think.

La Face B : A friend of mine who doesn’t like rock music was telling me the other day how he thought he witnessed the best rock concert he’s ever been to after seeing you live in Paris, precisely because your music didn’t sound like rock to him. I found that very interesting because you do have that kind of bluesy-guitar signature style, while also playing with noisy textures that could come from a cut-up approach, like hip hop music does. Do this kind of approach inspire you? Do you pay any attention at all to genre while writing?

Alison Mosshart : We see ourselves as an electric guitar band before a rock n’ roll band. With an electric guitar and a vocal, you can do anything, any genre, any style, fuck around with any rhythm you want. Being a two piece is the only limit we have, everything else, every idea that we can conceive of starting from that point, is fair game.

La Face B : Lastly- I recently came across these images and immediately thought of The Kills. A series of photographs by John Divola titled ‘Dogs Chasing My Car in the Desert’, which he took in 96-98 while driving in the Southern California desert, conjuring existential themes like isolation and desire, man versus wild, joy versus fear. It made me think of God Games’ cover, with the bull and the matador, but it also reminded me of Don Van Vliet’s painting retreat in California after Captain Beefheart’s ending, and of Vanishing Point’s iconic car chase. Basically a lot of the things you’ve often mentioned as an inspiration. I wanted to point it out to you, see if you knew this photographer. What does it evoke for you?

Alison Mosshart : I love this photo series. Meditative again, like driving a car. It’s cool to see stills of animals running, their shape, their sleekness, the body transformed into a bullet. I don’t know why but it makes me think of Benton Harbor, Michigan in the snow and the dogs at Key Club (a recording studio we worked at a lot) running down the desolate main street in a town that time forgot. These photos look like love and loyalty to me.
