pas de trois – chapter 6. curtain call

the end! this is the final chapter of pas de trois. :')

what started as a teeny tiny vague nugget of an idea (I wanna write a story involving a string of conflict between Ide, Light, and Matsuda during the days leading up to Yellow Box ??? with alternating POVs and angst ? a lot of angst?? with dancing/acting/play motifs??? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️), snowballed into this. it was a fun story to craft, albeit long and challenging, but I loved writing it. and it's sad to say goodbye. :')

I hope you've enjoyed it!! ♥ it was a genuine pleasure to share this fic and see each chapter with fresh eyes through other people's reactions. it's just my silly little self-indulgent thing, but I really mean it when I say it was special to me –the experience writing it and posting it, discussing it with readers– all of it! ♥ So, thank you very much for reading!!! I am so hype for the I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl animatic pilot @kianamaiart is in the process of making right now. Something just clicked in my brain where I had to make an elaborate piece of fanart with these amazing character designs the second I saw them, so I took the opportunity to sit down and finally learn Clip Studio Paint properly. Logo was made by kianamaiart and julietran.jpg on instagram. I just cropped out the solid background color for this fan poster to give it some extra flair. anyone else thinking about effie spending 24 years watching haymitch completely fall apart. effie, who met haymitch by accident, who knows exactly what kind of person he is, who sees him every year on his birthday for 24 years and each year he’s drunker, each year he’s angrier, each year he’s faster to give up. and then they get katniss and peeta. peeta, who is kind and open and understanding, who refuses to give up on haymitch. and katniss, who is so much like haymitch at 16 that it hurts. and over the few days they’re together, effie watches haymitch come back to life. watches him try. watches him have hope. and then they get to keep not one but both of those kids. they get to come home. and then, less then a year later, effie pulls haymitch’s name at the reaping.

#the 75th reaping was a special hell for all four of them #katniss knew it would be her no matter what and effie couldn’t save her.#haymitch and peeta were going to volunteer for the other regardless #and god. just thinking of haymitch wanting to die for all those years and effie only being able to watch #because how could she know why? how could she understand what had been done to him?#and finally. FINALLY she sees the light come back to him because he loves katniss and he loves peeta #and for once there’s a chance he can keep them. #poorly drawn odyssey #the odyssey #odysseus #penelope #epic the musical #Epic's version was very sweet and very well executed (and so cathartic!)#But Odyssey Penelope is *so* done with all the bullshit at this point in the story.#Credit where it is due; at this point she's been through a lot.#And to top if all off - her own son and one of the few maids on her side are buying into this (supposed) ruse.#This cannot have been the only time someone tried to pull this trick on her either.#Its the contrast between: 'Oh you're My husband?' and 'Ohh *sureeee* you're my husband. Just like the 30 other 'Odys' before you.'#The olive tree bed trick is a great gambit because it really is the final test to verify his identity.#I'm just a sucker for couples who have a secret only they know between them I suppose!#The match each other in will and wit! They will always find each other!!!#Anyways. The Odyssey is a worthwhile read and I highly recommend it. Epic is also a great musical worth checking out.
