Even if one sees a friend or an enemy behaving badly, one can reflect that there are specific conditioning factors that determine this, and thereby remain happy.

Good News - June 8-14
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $Kaybarr1735! And if you tip me and give me a way to contact you, at the end of the month I'll send you a link to all of the articles I found but didn't use each week!
1. Rare foal born on estate for first time in 100 years
Tumblr media
“The Food Museum at Abbot's Hall in Stowmarket, Suffolk, is home to a small number of Suffolk Punch horses - a breed considered critically endangered by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. A female foal was born on Saturday and has been named Abbots Juno to honour the last horse born at the museum in 1924. [...] Juno is just one of 12 fillies born so far this year in the country and she could potentially help produce more of the breed in the future.”
2. The cement that could turn your house into a giant battery
Tumblr media
“[Scientists] at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have found a way of creating an energy storage device known as a supercapacitor from three basic, cheap materials – water, cement and a soot-like substance called carbon black. [... Supercapacitators] can charge much more quickly than a lithium ion battery and don't suffer from the same levels of degradation in performance. [... Future applications of this concrete might include] roads that store solar energy and then release it to recharge electric cars wirelessly as they drive along a road [... and] energy-storing foundations of houses.”
3. New road lights, fewer dead insects—insect-friendly lighting successfully tested
Tumblr media
“Tailored and shielded road lights make the light source almost invisible outside the illuminated area and significantly reduces the lethal attraction for flying insects in different environments. [...] The new LED luminaires deliver more focused light, reduce spill light, and are shielded above and to the side to minimize light pollution. [... In contrast,] dimming the conventional lights by a factor of 5 had no significant effect on insect attraction.”
4. When LGBTQ health is at stake, patient navigators are ready to help
Tumblr media
“[S]ome health care systems have begun to offer guides, or navigators, to get people the help they need. [... W]hether they're just looking for a new doctor or taking the first step toward getting gender-affirming care, "a lot of our patients really benefit from having someone like me who is there to make sure that they are getting connected with a person who is immediately going to provide a safe environment for them." [... A navigator] also connects people with LGBTQ community organizations, social groups and peer support groups.”
5. Tech company to help tackle invasive plant species
Tumblr media
“Himalayan balsam has very sugary nectar which tempts bees and other pollinators away from native plants, thereby preventing them from producing seed. It outcompetes native plant species for resources such as sunlight, space and nutrients. [...] The volunteer scheme is open to all GWT WilderGlos users who have a smartphone and can download the Crowdorsa app, where they can then earn up to 25p per square meter of Balsam removed.”
6. [Fish & Wildlife] Service Provides Over $14 Million to Benefit Local Communities, Clean Waterways and Recreational Boaters
Tumblr media
“The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is distributing more than $14 million in Clean Vessel Act grants to improve water quality and increase opportunities for fishing, shellfish harvests and safe swimming in the nation’s waterways. By helping recreational boaters properly dispose of sewage, this year’s grants will improve conditions for local communities, wildlife and recreational boaters in 18 states and Guam.”
7. Bornean clouded leopard family filmed in wild for first time ever
Tumblr media
“Camera traps in Tanjung Puting National Park in Indonesian Borneo have captured a Bornean clouded leopard mother and her two cubs wandering through a forest. It's the first time a family of these endangered leopards has been caught on camera in the wild, according [to] staff from the Orangutan Foundation who placed camera traps throughout the forest to learn more about the elusive species.”
8. Toy library helps parents save money 'and the planet'
Tumblr media
“Started in 2015 by Annie Berry, South Bristol's toy library aims to reduce waste and allow more children access to more - and sometimes expensive - toys. [...] Ms Berry partnered with the St Philips recycling centre on a pilot project to rescue items back from landfill, bringing more toys into the library. [...] [P]eople use it to support the environment, take out toys that they might not have the space for at home or be able to afford, and allow children to pick non-gender specific toys.”
9. Chicago Receives $3M Grant to Inventory Its Trees and Create Plan to Manage City’s Urban Forest
Tumblr media
“The Chicago Park District received a $1.48 million grant [“made available through the federal Inflation Reduction Act”] to complete a 100% inventory of its estimated 250,000 trees, develop an urban forestry management plan and plant 200 trees in disadvantaged areas with the highest need. As with the city, development of the management plan is expected to involve significant community input.”
10. Strong Public Support for Indigenous Co-Stewardship Plan for Bears Ears National Monument
Tumblr media
“[The NFW has a] plan to collaboratively steward Bears Ears National Monument to safeguard wildlife, protect cultural resources, and better manage outdoor recreation. The plan was the result of a two-year collaboration among the five Tribes of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and upholds Tribal sovereignty, incorporates Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and responsibly manages the monument for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation while ensuring the continued health of the ecosystem.”

As the Israeli government continues to commit war crimes against the people of Gaza, it’s important to remember how all struggles for justice are interconnected. For instance, the movement to Stop Cop a City here in Atlanta is also a movement to stop US police from collaborating with the Israeli military.
Tumblr media
A delegation of Georgia law enforcement representatives pose with members of the Haifa, Israel, Police Department in August 2023. USAmerican and Israeli flags wave above them.
Through the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE), Israeli soldiers come to train right here in Georgia, and US police travel to Israel to learn their tactics…which is, frankly, terrifying, and a ludicrously literal example of the militarization of US police.
This relationship between Georgia and Israel has been going on for three decades, since 1992.
(Note that GILEE isn’t the only program in which US police collaborate with the IDF. This article from 2018 goes into more details about what tactics cops from various city police departments across the US have picked up from Israel.)
Tumblr media
If Cop City opens, Israeli soldiers will be invited to come train there. Both sides will be able to hone their tactics for brutally stomping out even the most peaceful of protests.
STOP COP CITY. FREE PALESTINE. Here and there, settler-colonialist states target Indigenous lives, Black lives, and other POC.
Our struggles are interwoven. None are free till all, all are free from this imperialist horror.

The Zodiac Signs and Psychology of Reliance
Independent Zodiac Signs Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer (Nakshatras of Ashwini, Bharani, Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashira, Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya, Ashlesha) Free from outside control. Things are about themselves first and foremost. Needing to get what they want. Putting their own foot forward. Distrust, relationship issues, and burnout from over-depending on self are problems dealt with.
Co-Dependent Zodiac Signs Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio (Nakshatras of Magha, Purva Phalaguni, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Vishakha, Anuradha, Jyestha) Prioritizes Others. Attached to other people. Need the "approval" of a mirror (Other person) to feel secure about themselves and what they do. Boundary and control issues, trouble making decisions, and feeling the need to be perfect plague them.
Interdependent Zodiac Signs Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces (Nakshatras of Mula, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati)
Believes everything is connected and there is mutual dependence between things. Everyone needs everyone to make life work. Delegating responsibility to lighten the load. Issues can include being too political and giving up autonomy in decision-making, lack of self-awareness, and uneven value systems/losing resources toward others.

✨I dream of interdependent community✨

It is useless to attempt to preserve a living species unless the kind of land or water it requires is also preserved. So delicately interwoven are the relationships that when we disturb one thread of the community fabric we alter it all — perhaps almost imperceptibly, perhaps so drastically that destruction follows.

Danny Whitty and his sister Tara talk in this podcast episode about how disabled lives and interdependence are valued in society and how this affects nonspeaking people and our supporters. (Please listen to other episodes too! Their podcast is so valuable.)
Danny: And I believe I have value. I am not a disposable mistake. I am a full human, and I have inherent worth. I am a child of the universe. I feel and think and love. And though for most of my life, I have been made to feel like I don't deserve to exist, my heart knows that I do.
I want to take a stroll down not so nice memory lane. After I aged out of special education, I was put into the community adult day program. It was somehow even worse than special education. We would be taken out on outings to recycle bottles and to do menial tasks in shops. Then we would go to fast food restaurants for lunch, even though many of us had gut issues and needed to be on healthy diets. It all highlighted that our only way to be valued was to pitifully scratch away at activities that were at least marginally seen as productive. That our health didn't matter. That we didn't matter but had to mimic productivity for its own sake.
I am not insulting the work of recycling bottles or tiny tasks in shops. But we were forced to do these things without any other activities that would bring us joy or ignite our interest. We were made to feel that the only way to be worthwhile was to be a small negligible imitation of economic productivity. We could not envision being more than that.

Everything, like the ocean, flows and enters into contact with everything else: touch one place, and you set up a movement at the other end of the world. It may be senseless to beg forgiveness of the birds, but, then, it would be easier for the birds, and for the child, and for every animal if you were yourself more pleasant than you are now. Everything is like an ocean, I tell you. Then you would pray to the birds, too, consumed by a universal love, as though in ecstasy, and ask that they, too, should forgive your sin. Treasure this ecstasy, however absurd people may think it.

So I was watching the new Leftist Cooks video, and I started thinking
The way we tend to talk about improving American society in America often focuses on a model that takes direct inspiration from one source. One country or culture is doing (or has done) things “right” and *we* should do it that way.
But the reality is that part of imagining and building systems that have not existed before is taking inspiration from what has worked in past and present systems and cultures *worldwide* while leaving behind the parts that continue to reinforce harm, and melding them together to create something more than the sum of its parts.
And to me, yes that does include the parts of the US that are valuable because as uncomfortable as it is when looking at how awful this country has been and especially is now, there are genuinely good ideas in how this country was built and those ideas that do have value *should* be preserved, even as they must be revised to represent those that have not been able to have an equal voice in the direction of the country historically

Learning from the Apostolic Family Model
Scripture Foundation:
"When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned." – Galatians 2:11
"Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses." – Proverbs 27:6
"Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently." – Galatians 6:1
Heavenly Father,
We praise You for the model of the spiritual family revealed through the apostles. You are the God who builds households of faith that transcend biology and extend into eternity.
In the name of Jesus, we seek to learn from the apostolic example of loving confrontation and redemptive truth.
We rebuke the demon of false peace that avoids necessary confrontation and allows sin to fester in silence.
In the name of Jesus, we destroy every altar of codependency that enables destructive behavior in the name of “keeping the peace.” We tear down strongholds of fear, silence, and emotional manipulation that block the truth from flowing freely in our homes.
Just as Paul confronted Peter when he compromised the gospel by showing favoritism (Galatians 2:11–14), give our families the courage to speak the truth in love. We renounce the fear of conflict that causes wounds to become infected instead of healed.
But Jesus, You are the God of restorative discipline! Teach us to confront like Paul—with love for the person and passion for righteousness. Give us the humility of Peter, who received correction and continued to lead with grace. Let our families grow stronger through honest conversations and healthy accountability.
Help us distinguish between attacking a person and addressing a behavior. Give us words seasoned with grace and truth (Colossians 4:6). Let our corrections be motivated by love, not anger—and aimed at restoration, not punishment.
We declare that our families will be marked by both truth and grace. We will not enable sin, but we will always offer redemption. Jesus, make us a family that fights for each other, not against each other.
In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.

How does love grow in the heart garden?
Thank you for supporting my work! patreon.com/kimchicuddles text reads:
Our hearts are given a shared garden, but we need to plant and nurture the seeds together instead of just sit in the dirt and complain to each other about the lack of fruit

“I would say that there exist a thousand unbreakable links between each of us and everything else, and that our dignity and our chances are one. The farthest star and the mud at our feet are a family; and there is no decency or sense in honoring one thing, or a few things, and then closing the list. The pine tree, the leopard, the Platte River, and ourselves — we are at risk together, or we are on our way to a sustainable world together. We are each other’s destiny.”
— Mary Oliver
