due to a certain asshole spewing bullshit in spacelazarwolf's notes, I wanna emphasize something:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW HEBREW TO BE JEWISH
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LEARN HEBREW TO BE JEWISH
YOU DON'T HAVE TO WANT TO LEARN HEBREW TO BE JEWISH
the only thing you need to be Jewish is to be Jewish. a Jew is a Jew.
(this message does not include messianic jews)
#jumblr#judaism#jewish#jewish positivity#diaspora jews#jewish converts#patrilineal jews#reform judaism#conservative judaism#orthodox judaism#secular jews#all of them are fucking Jews regardless of what languages they speak#I can't believe I have to say this in 5784#gatekeepers are not welcome on my blog ☺️

I'm honestly not sure what prompted me to realize this (it is not seasonal for either song lol) but today I connected a hymn from my childhood with the Judaism of my adulthood.
Namely, one of the most sacred moments I remember from my Christian upbringing was how every year on Christmas Eve, when O Holy Night was sung, the verse "Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!" would nearly bring me to tears. It felt like my soul was being pulled into prostration before the numinous Divine by the notes of the song.
Now, as a Jewish adult, I realized that the music that grips my neshama like a vice and actually literally pulls me into prostration is the grand Aleinu on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. These are probably the most sacred moments of the year for me, and here again, the music lifts my soul even as it forces me to my knees in vulnerability and yirat hashamayim.
Interestingly, I feel a similar connection from how it made me feel when my church would sing Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, especially the verse about the angels falling down before God, and singing the Kedushah on Shabbos as an adult at my shul. These are much smaller, more common moments, but no less sacred despite that.
And this is not to necessarily compare these moments or equate them for anyone else, but rather to notice a common thread of my soul standing in the presence of the Divine, like a pinhole through time. A link between my past, present, and future selves as I have grown and changed and evolved, and yet still, still, there are sacred songs that awaken my soul to the Divine Presence and draw me into a posture of avodah, ahava, and yirah.
#every hour is theology hour around here apparently#look I've always been religious and my soul has always sought connection to the Divine#it's just that the language my soul hears that calling through best is that of the Jewish people rather than Christianity#jewish music#hymns#comparative theology#weird convert feels#interfaith

Autistic Visual Thinking

Have to adapt to predominantly verbal communication culture in society
Convert verbal language into imagery to understand communication
May find it more difficult to organize visual thoughts when under pressure
Verbal language processing requires effort
May struggle with long sequences of verbal information
Need processing time to conceptualize visually what is being said verbally, then actively creating a verbal response

Visual thinking has a component-see things that others miss
Minds that are like oceans of images
Make rapid fire associations
Numbers and algebra can be abstract
Word based thinking can be a second language too
Details jump forward-notice things that seem off kilter immediately on entering a space
Can be late talkers
Deconstructing to learn
See images in their eyes mind
Struggle with traditional teaching method
Problem solvers
Photorealistic images - Cinematic - Short Films
Often doesn't require directions when traveling
May thrive in practical based activities
Look at the world from another persons point of view
Society not created for Visual thinkers

Incase anyone wants to know the levels of character brainrot I'm currently at:

I was digging through my art box and found a pot of ink paired with actual pen nibs, alongside a leather fantasy book (which I've apparently had for several years and completely forgot about). I immediately decided to recreate all of Jayce's journal entries in real life.
#not pictured: me trying to figure out how to convert a made up language into English whilst leaving it looking the same as the photo. Whils#having to size it down by about x4 whilst still remaining legible#just practices so far but I'm going to get it done#thats just my regular handwriting at the moment so I've got to get used to his#questioning exactly how healthy this is#Although its also so fun writing with ink and a quill soooo#WIPs#jayce talis

May I ask, did you have a crush on Sunny even back when he had a crush on Aubrey? :O
also how jealous did you get- 🤭
Kind of, I guess? I didn't actually know it was a crush at that time though, before I told Mari about it when we were alone.
And.. I tried my best not to get jealous, I think I've nailed it.. I was just happy with him, and if he'd get with Aubrey, I'd still be happy for him.. For both of them, even!
True love is when you're happy for your crush no matter what.. And if you see them have their own love with someone else, then you should stay happy for them anyway and wish them the best..
If you'll be mad at them and curse them or anything like that.. That'll just make you selfish..
.. Atleast, that's what I go for. As long as Sunny's well and happy, I'm happy for him.
#[🌿] basil answers#//#quote from my russian language & literature teacher btw#she makes my words and sentences more beautiful and gives me more metaphors by making me read books frfr /silly#(even tho everything there is russian... but i convert allat into english)

Started reading The Vampire Armand to help me understand the backstory for a fic I've been planning.
I knew what was coming. I'd read the summary. I was warned by so many fans, but still...this is one of the saddest fucking works of fiction I've read in a long time...and I'm only on chapter three.
#the vampire armand#another case where an antagonist's tragic backstory explains a lot about why they make the choices they do#it's a horror story before the vampirism even becomes relevant#.....and the orientalism and western eurocentrism is...painfully unexamined#like I can't tell if it's intentional or not that the protag is removed from his name language culture and heritage#and converted to an unquestionably western roman catholic leaning secular view#by a man whose name derives from a god of war and who represents one of the foundational empires of the modern western civilization#it's a choice rife with colonialist associations and begging for analysis

Is there any offices similar to OPN outside of the US?
Sure is! In North America there’s our big sister organization the Royal Canadian Office for the Esoteric, and Mexico’s Secretariat of Extranormal Resources. In Britain it’s His Majesty’s Esoteric Services. Many other countries have their own, depending on the region. The European Thaumaturgical Centre for Research and Analysis (ETCetRA) also does a lot more hands on work in Europe than it does here, as you might imagine from the name.
#office for the preservation of normalcy#ask#RCOE#HMES#SER#ETCetRA#ooc: English is my only language so I hesitate to come up with other country orgs for languages I don’t speak.#ooc: someone sent me a name for an Irish org that got lost when the blog converted to a group blog. oops.#ooc: feel free to send in ideas for your country though

Cons of knowing multiple languages when writing a story/script is when a sentence has more impact in a language that's not in the language you're writing in does that make sense????
#higanbana yap o clock#And when I'm converting jp dialogue in my head to English on the screen it's a little ughhhh#Like it's lost its power#Even English dialects and slangs makes all the difference too#And some words sound so beautiful in other languages but then sounds so disappointing in English#Major deja vu rn I had this same exact convo with an ex friend back in secondary school#And we both agreed how the word heart in English and French is so MEH#But in other languages it was very pleasing to the ear

oh my god ive only heard of diegetic/non-diegetic used for like sound/music in movies i hadnt realized it could easily apply to like other stuff i feel so silly saying watsonian/doylist. everyday i learn things!!
YEAHHH!!!!! handshake emoji actually because for the longest time i only knew abt diegesis in relation to narrative theory & storytelling etc & it was so startling to realize it was a big film thing too. like OH. shit. that makes sense i'm silly!! :]]
#but yeah!!! good words!! or at least. idk. i prefer using more accurate or quote unquote professional language for things if i can...#its the engineer & autism wanting 2 be as specific as possible in me.... anyway in retrospect hope my tags didn't come off as rude#that wasn't the intent!!#asks :)#always on that converting people to levels of diegesis grind......
