The Joys of the 68th Annual Poetry Festival
I recently returned from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where the Poetry Society of Tennessee held its 68th Annual Poetry Festival. The event was a partnership of the society, Poetry in the Boro, and MTSU Write. The society’s first in-person festival since before COVID (and first-ever hybrid event) featured a morning plenary session by Christian J. Collier and four separate tracks for the afternoon,…

dear mads, after reading the entirety of your rust fics I have to ask, how did you cultivate your writing style? The way you write has completely enamoured me. If you have any recommendations for books that have inspired you, or any resources that you think are useful for an aspiring writer and student please share! 🩷🩷
thank you so much, and of course!
I’ve been writing for well over a decade now but I enjoy being an amateur, if I took it too seriously I wouldn’t enjoy it, which is why I don’t draw or paint anymore. So, I don’t abide by most grammar rules and I can’t diagram a sentence, if you asked me to point to a preposition right now, I’d probably cry, but I love playing with language. Keep reading, enjoy the process, challenge yourself to a genre you avoid (for me that’s Lee Pace or Tom Clancy), I find that shopping for books in person is great for finding things I typically wouldn’t buy— but I live in the middle of no where and my one book store folded 8 years ago so it’s like a Genuine Treat to go book shopping. Stage plays can be really quick to read, I keep one in the back of my writing notebook— The Vandal by Hamish Linklater, but I do have a copy of Killer Joe by Tracy Letts if that was anyone’s first guess. I read a lot of non fiction, mainly north american history.
Favorite books that I see in my bedroom as I avoid two finals in no particular order/genre— Mongrels by SGJ, The Bone Season, Barkskins by Annie Proulx, An Indigenous People’s History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Stony the Road by Henry Louis Gates Jr, Their Eyes Were Watching God + Dust Tracks on a Road by Zara Neale Hurston, Latitude by Natasha Rao (poetry), How to Carry Water by Lucille Clifton (poetry), Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, To Kill a Mockingbird, Bastard Out of Carolina, Dogsong by Gary Paulsen, The Color Purple, Girls and Sex by Peggy Orenstein, We Have Always Lived in a Castle, Black Leopard Red Wolf by Marlon James, Animal by Lisa Taddeo, The Hanged Man by Francesca Lia Block, Severance by Ling Ma, Never Whistle at Night (Native anthology), Confessions by St. Augustine, South to America by Imani Perry, Archaeology of the Night: life after dark in the ancient world, An Underground Education by Richard Zacks, Bloodstoppers and Bear Walkers, The Ghost Road: Anishinaabe responses to Indian hating, Enemy at the Gates by William Craig
Writing books— A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, I suggest this to everyone as well as the Ackerman/Puglisi thesaurus series, but my dad has gifted me— Pity the Reader, Wired for Story, How to Read Literature like a Professor, Mircostyle, Spunk & Bite, Creating Characters by Swain
My current to read pile, jesus christ y’all are about to find out what a dweeb I am— The Dark Mirror (Bone Season #5), Bourgeois Dignity, Self-Determination: the other path for Native Americans, Renewing Indigenous Economies, Free Market Environmentalism, Thinning Blood: a memoir of familiar, myth, and identity, Life of the Party (poetry), Love Invents Us by Amy Bloom, Laughing Whitefish, China’s Second Continent, A Good and Happy Child by Justin Evan’s, Without Remorse by Tom Clancy, The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson
I’ve done gen ed english classes as well as creative non fiction writing and research writing, and was accepted into MTSU Write mentoring program for a summer— but honestly all this background built my confidence up more than skill. The most creative force in my life must be all my writing friends and the work they put out. Find support, keep reaching out to writers like this!
And now to completely back track on this advice; find a medium you enjoy that does not in any way needs to satisfy the needs for someone else. For me that’s bad poetry and fanfics, stuff I can throw against the wall and see what sticks or everything I can’t put in my novel draft lol

MIDTERM ASSIGNMENT(s) INSTRUCTIONS: THE ULTIMATE REVIEW OF ALL PREVIOUS LESSONS UNTIL THIS POINT. ALL INSTRUCTIONS ARE IN THIS ONE POST.
Intro
Chances are, you're renting a place to live somewhere in Murfreesboro while you attend MTSU. But are you getting a good deal on your apartment? How would your rent change if you got a smaller place? What about a bigger place? Which is more economical: a two-bedroom apartment that you pay for by yourself or perhaps split with one roommate, or a larger apartment, with multiple roommates sharing the rent? Which areas of the city offer the lowest - or higher - rents? How to rents near campus compare with rents elsewhere in the city? How did rents change between 2018 and 2019?
The data
This dataset, which I've distilled for you from the 2019 and 2018 American Community Survey Five-Year Estimates, can answer all of these questions - and perhaps more, if you get a little creative. See this view-only Google Sheet:
J3520 Midterm Project Data
... which contains 2019 and 2018 median rent data for every U.S. Census Bureau tract that lies wholly or partly within the Murfreesboro City limits. The 2019 data are the latest available; data for 2020 and 2021 are probably still being compiled. You'll find the data in one tab and a codebook in the other tab. The codebook describes what the data in each column of the Google Sheet measure. You may copy and paste the data into Excel or Google Sheets, or you may download the data and import it into Excel or Google Sheets.
You also will need to download and unzip this .kml file of all Census tracts:
Murfreesboro Census Tracts (sorted by Census Tract ID)
Remember: You will have to decompress this .zip file and store the resulting .kml file on your computer, using whatever procedure your computer and browser rely on for doing so.
Your task for this project
Your job, in sum, is to produce and publish a report, based on the data I've provided, that offers MTSU students and/or Rutherford County residents in general some newsworthy insight or insights about median rents in Rutherford County. You will receive full credit on the assignment if your published report meets each of the following criteria:
1. The report contains at least one embedded, online, interactive map, correctly sized, centered and zoomed, and appropriately edited with a suitable title, subtitle (if needed), labels, legend, etc. You may make this map with QGIS, if you like. Or you may make the map using the "shortcut" method described in the Alternative mapping lesson and assignment from last week - the one I added after we lost a week due to the Feb. 15 ice and snow storm. If you want to use QGIS, you can import the .kml file just like you would import a shape file.
2. The report contains at least one embedded, interactive data visualization, such as a column or bar chart. Again, this feature should be appropriately edited with a suitable title, subtitle (if needed), labels, legend, etc.
3. The report contains clearly written, error-free text that presents the insights in an engaging, easy-to-understand manner. I expect at least three paragraphs, with each paragraph consisting of at least one or two sentences.
4. The report is labeled with a suitable headline.
5. The report is published on your WordPress or Wix site under a navigation menu link that I can easily find when I visit your site to grade your project.
6. Your data analysis, graph and map are accurate. Better double check your numbers in all instances.
7. Your work is original to you. You may seek help from classmates and/or from me. But the published content of your project must be uniquely yours. In particular, avoid duplicating, or nearly duplicating, someone else's phrasing of the report's text. Maps and graphics, of course, probably will overlap considerably from project to project, having been produced from the same dataset. There are, after all, only so many angles that can be pursued in the data. I understand that.
8. Your insights would be reasonably useful and interesting to an MTSU student and/or resident of Rutherford County. You do not have to cover every possible insight or pattern that could be drawn from the data. Nor does the particular insight, or set of insights, your report focuses on have to be unique. Just tell me a good story, based on something, or a couple of things, you found in the data. If you're unsure of what to look at, or unsure about the the validity of your choice, ask me. I'll help.
9. Your project is published on your WordPress or Wix site no later than the specified deadline.
The ground rules
As already indicated, it's kind of hard to cheat on this assignment. You have a full week to complete your project, including every class session between now and the deadline. It is open-book, open-notes, open-YouTube videos, open-D2L, open-classmate, and open-me. Provided you don't overtly copy someone else's work, or get someone else to do your work for you, you will be just fine.
An example
See this post:
https://thedatareporter.com/nashville-growing-but-only-in-patches-analysis-of-new-census-data-shows/
... for an example of the type of report I'm looking for. The example is probably more elaborate than what you will produce. It has a multi-county, multi-layered map, for example, something you do not have sufficient data to produce. It also draws upon a richer dataset than the one I have given you. The main purpose of the example is to give you an idea of the tone and organization of the sort of data report I have in mind. Notice that your report does not have to include quotes or paraphrases from individuals or experts the way a standard news story would. Just write in third-person, conveying what you have found to be true and interesting/useful about the data. You will find this style of writing at data-driven journalism sites like FiveThirtyEight.com and The Upshot.
Have fun with this, OK?
I could have picked data about any of a range of relatively boring or obscure American Community Survey topics. But I picked rent because I figured that, well, you'd be interested in using the data to find out something useful that others - or at least most others - don't know. That's the thrill of doing this kind of investigation. You're using high-value skills to come up with valuable insights that few others could figure out. Enjoy that feeling, and feel free to pitch what you find to the local media outlet of your choice. I'll even help you do it, if you like. At the very least, put this project on your WordPress or Wix site in a way that will give you something you can be proud to show potential internship hosts or post-graduation employers.
NOTE: The material below is the original version of the midterm - the one I had planned for you before the snow storm hit. You may use it if you like, but the revised version, above, is a bit easier to deal with and offers more current data. If you use the revised version above, you may ignore this version. And if you use this version, you may ignore the revised version above.Intro
Chances are, you're renting a place to live somewhere in Rutherford County while you attend MTSU. But are you getting a good deal on your apartment? How would your rent change if you got a smaller place? What about a bigger place? Which is more economical: a studio or one-bedroom apartment that you pay for by yourself or perhaps split with one roommate, or a larger apartment with multiple roommates sharing the rent? Which areas of the county offer significantly lower - or higher - rents compared to the countywide median?
The data

... which contains the data in one tab and a codebook in the other. The codebook describes what the data in each column of the Google Sheet measure. The codebook also offers information about the original data source and about things like the "margin of error" data included in the sheet. If you need to edit or analyze the data in some way, you may copy and paste the data into Excel or Google Sheets, or you may download the data and import it into Excel or Google Sheets. Remember, though, that QGIS will be happiest if you import the data as a comma-separated value (.csv) file.
You probably also will need to download a shape file of every tract in Tennessee. You can find one here:
https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/carto-boundary-file.html
... by scrolling down to the "State-based Files" area, finding the "Census Tracts" drop-down menu, and choosing "Tennessee" from the menu. The shape file will download in a .zip file that you will have to decompress and store on your computer using whatever procedure your computer and browser rely on for doing so.

Lovely visit with Ron and Emily Messier in their beautiful home in Lascassas. Ron was my major Profesor during my undergraduate degree at MTSU. It was with him that I did my first study abroad to Western Europe in 1979 and then to Mediterranean countries in 1981. Ron was an outstanding teacher and an inspiring mentor. No one was more influential to my professional life. He is still active with writing and research. I am grateful for his guidance and friendship over the years. As a programmer, you can do this with conditional programming statements that use mathematical, comparability, and logical operators. That's what you will concentrate on in this lesson. Because you'll be able to select which checks to ship in, and Middle Tennessee State University solely considers your highest score on a single test date, you can take the SAT as many times as you need, then submit your strongest score. Your software readers will only see that one score. This means that you can select which SAT exams you wish to send to the varsity. Of all of the scores they receive, your application readers will think about the SAT score from your single highest test date . The Score Choice policy at your college is a vital a part of your testing technique. Program errors can occur for any variety of causes, so this lesson will present you the fundamental steps for identifying and correcting them. You'll learn in regards to the growth of error handling procedures and examine utilizing Just BASIC's debugger as a way of maintaining a tally of the inner operation of your applications. Your final project utility shall be to develop a computer model of that old traditional, the Hangman sport. With conditional logic, you possibly can create applications that react in another way relying on the info that they obtain. This offers an interactive consumer experience and applications that are adaptive sufficient to deal with different types of conditions. (Most colleges use a weighted GPA out of four.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. Many schools specify a minimum GPA requirement, but this is typically simply the naked minimum to submit an application without instantly getting rejected. If you need to get in, the first thing to look at is the acceptance rate. This tells you ways aggressive the varsity is and how serious their necessities are. This was an excellent entry-degree course. On the floor, it looks like a simple program, but it will put your whole new Just BASIC skills to the test. Like most different programming languages, Just BASIC allows you to work together together with your computer's file system. You can retrieve details about your laptop's drives, and you'll open files, read from them, write to them, and close them. As such, you possibly can create stories, paperwork, and log files, so that's what you may focus on in this lesson. The application for lesson is the Tic Tac Toe game. Middle Tennessee State University considers the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section optional and may not embody it as part of their admissions consideration. You needn't worry too much about Writing for this faculty, however other faculties you are making use of to could require it. We weren't able to find the school's precise ACT coverage, which most likely signifies that it does not Superscore. Regardless, you possibly can select your single greatest ACT score to send in to Middle Tennessee State University, so you must prep till you reach our recommended target ACT rating of 20. This is necessary in your testing technique. Many colleges say they haven't any SAT rating cutoff, but the truth is that there is a hidden SAT requirement. This is based on the college's average rating. Each college has different requirements for standardized testing. Most schools require the SAT or ACT, and many additionally require SAT subject checks. It's a project that will exercise most of the programming muscular tissues that you've developed all through the course thus far. In this lesson, you may learn to create and work with loops. Loops are code blocks that repeat a collection of programming statements again and again. Using loops, you'll be able to develop functions that can course of large amounts of knowledge using a minimal number of programming statements. I feel I received a good overview of programming, and I now feel prepared to take the next step toward choosing a language to study. Thank you for the opportunity to help me on my journey into programming. There aren't any prerequisites to take this course. No previous programming knowledge or expertise is required. In this final lesson, you may learn to monitor down and cope with the errors that inevitably crop up if you develop a new software utility.

Would you like to get your music to NEW FANS that would absolutely love it?
Musicians and producers in any genre can use this simple, proven system to get more exposure… more fans… and quite frankly… make more money
…all
without
the need for a record label, and without spending an arm and a leg on promotion.
Most musicians struggle to make their passion a full-time career, because (as you’re probably well-aware) the music industry is extremely competitive.
There are millions of musicians all around the world trying to make it in the music business.
And they all want to sign record deals.
Not that long ago, record labels were pretty much a necessity if you wanted to have any chance of success in the music business.
But these days it’s easier than ever for independent artists like yourself to promote your music on your own… without the backing of a record label.
How is that possible?
Here’s the simple secret that most artists miss…
You DON’T Need Millions…
You don’t need millions of streams…
You don’t need millions of followers…
You don’t need millions of downloads…
In fact, you could be earning over $100,000 a year with just 1,000 fans…
Especially if you ARE NOT signed to a record label.
This is known as the “1,000 True Fan” principle that was made popular a few years ago in an article written by Wired magazine founder, Kevin Kelly.
This is how it works…
First you need to create enough value that gives your fans a reason to spend $100 with you over the course of a year. Think merch, ticket sales, album sales, etc…
If your fans come out to one or two shows a year and buy a few items from the merch booth, that could easily add up to $100 right there.
Or if you’re not playing live shows… you can release some limited edition versions of your albums online and sell some t-shirts on your website.
There’s a lot of stuff you can sell to your most diehard fans. Especially if you get creative.
So coming up with $100 worth of value isn’t really that difficult.
But you also need to have a direct relationship with your fans. That way they can pay you directly and you keep all of their support… unlike the small percentage you might get from a label or other middle man.
If you keep the full $100 from each true fan, you only need 1,000 of them to earn $100,000 a year.
Of course, you don’t have to stop at 1,000 true fans.
You can obviously build a much larger following and earn a lot more than $100,000 a year, but 1,000 is a very realistic initial goal to shoot for.
And it doesn’t have to be 1,000 true fans…
If you earn $200 a year per fan… You only need 500 to bring in $100K/year.
And on the other hand… If you have 2,000 true fans, you only need to earn $50 per fan to hit $100,000 per year.
My point is that it’s probably a whole lot easier than you realize to earn a good living as a musician, without a record label.
So now you may be thinking…
“Okay great! 1,000 true fans is a very doable goal, but where do I start?”
Well you really have 2 options.
First, there’s…
The HARD Way 🙁
There are a lot of resources out there that can help you get closer to 1,000 True Fans.
Search Google, and you’ll find all kinds of articles, blog posts, and videos with tips for growing a following as an independent artist…
And a lot of them can be really helpful.
The problem is…
Most of those videos and articles are only give you a small piece of the puzzle.
Maybe a good tip here… a little trick there…
But these tips aren’t going to really help you much if you don’t have an actual “A to Z strategy” to apply them to.
And you’ll find all kinds of conflicting information…
So you don’t really know who to listen to, and what to actually implement.
Fortunately, you don’t have to learn how to promote your music the hard way.
There’s another option…
The EASY Way 🙂
To build a following of 1,000 True Fans that will each spend $100 a year with you…
You need a proven, step-by-step strategy that will take you from ground zero… just starting out, with little or no fans…
And show you exactly how to:
find new fans…
build a connection with those fans…
and turn them into the True Fans that are going to come to all your shows, download all of your albums, and buy all your merch.
And that’s what I want to help you do right now.
I’ve put together a proven system that’s
EASY to set up…
I walk you through the entire process step-by-step with detailed videos that show you exactly how to do everything you need to do to get your music out to the people that will enjoy it and want to help support you in your music career.
I’ve taken all of the guess work out of this… and virtually eliminated the learning curve.
All you have to do is follow along with the videos I’ve created for you and do exactly what I show you, and you’ll have this system set up in no time…
You could literally have it up and running TODAY!
This system doesn’t JUST help you get more fans.
Automated promotions are sent out to
sell your music as well.
And once it’s set up, it will run 24/7 whether you’re around or not…
That means you can go to sleep at night and
wake up in the morning with more fans than you had when you went to bed.
IMAGINE…
…having a fully-automated music promotion system in place that will grow your fanbase and sell your music for YOU while you focus on the part of your career that you’re actually passionate about… making music.
What would your life be like if you had 1,000 diehard “superfans”?
1,000 True Fans that are spending $100 a year with you?
You wouldn’t have to worry about coming up with rent or paying your bills.
You certainly wouldn’t have to spend 40 hours a week working a job to support yourself, while you make music in your spare time.
Your music career would take centerstage.
You would be able to devote as much time as you want to writing and recording music, and performing live shows.
You would never have to put your music career on hold while you spend most of your time working some other job just to make ends meet.
And by freeing yourself up to focus all of your effort on your music career…
All of a sudden that goal of getting 10,000… 100,000… or even a million fans… doesn’t seem that far off anymore.

My name’s Justin Smith and I help independent artists like yourself learn how to use digital marketing to get more exposure… more fans… and sell your music online.
Before I turned my attention solely to helping independent artists, I spent a decade working with clients in all industries to help them implement and improve their digital marketing.
I’ve helped my clients sell
millions of dollars
worth of products online.
My experience over the last decade has taught me that there are some basic fundamental principles, tactics, and strategies that can be applied to virtually any business…
Including YOUR business!
And yes… I realize that you’re a musician first and foremost… But you’re also a business.
Just like other businesses focus on acquiring customers, building a relationship with those customers, and selling their products to those customers…
As an independent artist…
You have to focus on getting your music out the right audiences to acquire new fans, connect with those fans to convert them into True Fans…
Then you can sell your music, tickets to live shows, t-shirts and other merch to those fans.
Now I’ve always had a passion for music.
I played in bands in high school and college, and I ended up spending several years working in the music industry.
I earned a 4 year degree in Recording Industry Management from MTSU, and I’ve worked in just about every sector of the music industry that you can imagine… from artist management, to concert promotion, to publishing, licensing. I’ve spent time working in recording studios…
And I was even brought on to develop a digital marketing strategy for 14-time Grammy nominated, Martina McBride
I’m also the author of The Music Promotion Blueprint.
How It Works
In the video course that I’m offering you here on this page…
I show you how to implement the same music promotion strategy that
countless recording artists are already using,
so you can get YOUR MUSIC out to new audiences, grow your fanbase, and sell music and merch online.
Easy-to-follow videos will show you
exactly what to do step by step.
By following steps laid out in the videos, you’ll end up with a fully-automated music promotion system.
You’ll have a “Squeeze Page” where new fans will arrive and join your list…
Once fans are on your list, they’ll receive an automated sequence of emails over the next few days to build a connection and help convert them from average “run of the mill” fans into True Fans that will spend money with you and support your music career.
Built in promotions will help you sell music to fans that join your list… again this is all AUTOMATED.
Even the process of
finding new fans is automated
.
I’m going to show you how to run ultra-cheap, highly-targeted ads that will attract people that want to hear your music.
And again, I show you
exactly how to do everything in step-by-step videos
. YOU DO NOT NEED any previous experience or technical skills to make this work.
This music promotion system will grow your fanbase and sell your music 24/7.
It will run continuously…  while you’re in the studio, on tour, on vacation, or even while you sleep.
Introducing…
The Music Promotion Machine course will walk you step-by-step through a process that will get you started from ground zero…
I’m talking about zero experience, zero technical skills, zero foundation, zero knowledge about promoting your music…
And by the end of the course you’ll have a complete music promotion system that will grow your fanbase, help you connect with fans, and sell your music and merch.

For a limited time, Music Promotion Machine is available at a price that any struggling musician can afford.
It’s my goal this year to help as many independent artists as possible take their career to the next level.
And I’d like YOU to be one of them.
I know how challenging and overwhelming it can seem when you think about how far you have to go from where you are now, to reaching that level of success you often dream about.
But it’s not some unachievable goal like many people would lead you to believe.
You just need to have a clear proven path to get from where you are now, to where you want to be.
And you need someone to show you that first step, to help get you on your way.
And that’s what I’m offering you right now.
Music Promotion Machine offers a proven step-by-step path that will take you from where you’re at now, to a place in your music career where you’ll finally have labels reaching out to you… booking agents and promoters trying get you to come to their city… journalists contacting you for interviews…
And most importantly a dedicated, loyal fanbase that loves your music… shares it with their friends… comes to all of your shows and supports your career by purchasing all of your t-shirts, hats, posters and other merch.
And if you take action and sign up now, I’m going to give you access to an incredible “fast action” bonus.
This isn’t available anywhere else, and I’m only offering it to you if you take action right now.
“Fast Action” BONUS
IG Rockstar
($97 Value)
“Discover how YOU can get thousands of new followers for free using Instagram. New fans every day and it won’t cost you a penny”
Exclusively available to Music Promotion Machine members only
And for the first time ever… I’m including a second “fast action bonus”
If you’re planning on releasing new music anytime in the future, you’re probably going to want to get that music distributed to Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, and every other digital platform where your fans will stream and download your music.
Well… when it comes to releasing new music, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it.
So I’ve put together a program called “Release Amplifier”
Release Amplifier is a guide to getting your music digitally distributed…
And it’s a promotional strategy that will maximize your engagement around the time of the release to increase your chances of landing on Billboard, iTunes top 100, and other sales charts…
Not to mention getting put on major playlists on Spotify and other streaming platforms.
“Fast Action” BONUS #2
Release Amplifier
($97 Value)
“Learn how to get your music digitally distributed to Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music, and EVERY other major digital music service. AND learn how to promote your new releases the right way“
Exclusively available to Music Promotion Machine members only
Here on this page only…
You can get access to Instagram Rockstar AND Release Amplifier (a combined value of $194) for FREE as “fast action bonuses” when you purchase access to Music Promotion Machine today!
So if you’re serious about your music career and you’re not exactly sure how to take that next step to get yourself on the path to success in the music industry, you’re lucky you found this page, because you’re literally moments away from taking that next step.
Now it’s taken me years of my life to learn everything I know about the music industry and how to promote your music and grow your fanbase online.
If I wanted to sell this course for $10,000, I could. I mean think about it…
If you went through the training I’m offering and built a following of 1,000 true fans that each spent $100 a year with you… that’s $100,000 a year.
A one-time investment of $10,000 in exchange for a $100,000 a year income for the rest of your life would be a no-brainer.
But it’s my personal goal this year to help as many independent artists like you as possible.
And I can’t accomplish that goal if I make this course so expensive that no one can afford it.
That’s why I’m not going to charge $10,000 to get access.
I’m not going to charge $1,000…
I’m not going to charge $500…
I’m not even going to charge you $100…
When I told you that I’m trying to help as many independent artists like yourself as possible, I meant it.
That’s why I’m only charging enough money to help me cover my own expenses, so I can get this course out to as many struggling musicians as possible.
If you join Music Promotion Machine today, you’re going to get access to
a proven, step-by-step system
that will get you more exposure, more fans, and sell your music.
AND if you take action now, you’re also getting access to IG Rockstar and Release Amplifier as “fast action bonuses”
The two bonuses have a combined value of $194 alone…
And you get all of this for fraction of what you could make within days of getting the system set up.

But when you spend that money on drinks, all you get is a hangover.
When you spend it here, it’s an investment in yourself and your music career… an investment that will potentially
pay for itself thousands and thousands of times over
… year after year.
So you really have two options if you want to get more exposure for your music, grow your fanbase, and turn your passion for music into a full-time career.
You could do it
the hard way
…like most people.
Spend a tremendous amount of time and money figuring it out on your own.
Or you can do it
the EASY way

Instead of spending weeks, months, or even years trying to figure this stuff out…
You can follow my instruction and have this set up over the weekend.

Daphne’s Operation - 1995 Cassette
I could write an extremely long-winded treatise on the dangers of nostalgia - revisiting particular times of life can either halt you from enjoying new things or, worse, ruin the thing that you thought you loved.
But instead, I’ll say that it was a damn delight to see Daphne’s Operation pop up on Bandcamp. The Murfreesboro shoegaze outfit was part of the mid-to-late 90′s scene around MTSU and created a bombastic amount of music influenced by the likes of early Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth and Pavement goofery (new music at the time). It’s often spastic and all over the place but that’s part of its charm.
It’s also worth noting that there’s a door to a deep history of the current Nashville music scene here. Daphne’s Operation featured, among others, Bingham Barnes; who would go on to keep the low end for Glossary, Wooden Wand and Jasmin Kaset to name just a few. Some of the catalog was also recorded by Brian Carter, another consistent presence in the Nashville music scene.

2019 C-USA power rankings: Half the conference might win it
Tumblr media
Are you a Conference USA team fielding a football team? Congrats, you might win it! (Except you, Texas schools not named North Texas.)
At the end of each conference previews run-through, I take a look at how I perceive the conference’s balance of power heading into the season. This is in no way based on schedules, so they are not predictions. This is just how I would rank the teams after writing thousands of words about each of them. We have already completed the MAC.
Bill C’s C-USA power rankings
Here’s a link to every team’s data, and each team’s name below is linked to its preview.
Tier 1
1. Marshall 2. North Texas 3. FIU 4. FAU 5. Southern Miss 6. Louisiana Tech
In my MAC power rankings, I theorized that the home of MACtion might also be the home of the best title race in FBS. If it’s not, it’s because Conference USA took that crown instead.
I have no idea how to separate the six teams here from one another, and either of the two teams in the tier below — you know, the two that played for the title last year — could make a run with minimal surprises.
I appear to be leaning toward upside. Marshall could have depth issues, depending on where the injury bug bites, but the defense was dominant at times last year, and the offensive potential is clear. North Texas was maybe the most balanced team last year, and while the defense should take a step backwards, the offense could be otherworldly. But this is a lot closer to 1a-1f than 1-6.
Tier 2
7. MTSU 8. UAB
MTSU needs a quarterback, and UAB needs new lines. The Blue Raiders still have play-makers, though, and the Blazers still have Bill Clark.
Tier 3
9. WKU 10. Charlotte 11. ODU
To me, there is a pretty spectacular drop-off between the top eight teams and the bottom six — or even the top eight, the next three, and the three after that. But all of these Tier 3 teams are capable of eking out a 6-6 season and bowl eligibility.
Tier 4
12. UTEP 13. UTSA 14. Rice
Woof. I see what both Dana Dimel (UTEP) and Mike Bloomgren (Rice) are building, and I like UTSA’s defense a good amount. But they’re probably all at least a year away from a bowl run. A 4-8 season would be a success.
How does S&P+ see things?
Here’s how my statistical system has the C-USA laid out for 2019, with zero equating to an average FBS team. (You can find full 2019 S&P+ projections here.)

S&P+ didn’t really love either of last year’s division champs, and now both are retooling. Marshall and UNT both have some questions to answer, as well. (I clearly think both will have satisfactory answers.) But Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, FIU, and WKU are all bringing back a ton of last year’s production. If MU and UNT don’t fall far, that will create quite the logjam at the top.
2019 projected standings (per S&P+)
Projected conference wins, with overall wins in parentheses.
West Division
Southern Miss 5.8 (7.2)
North Texas 5.7 (7.9)
Louisiana Tech 5.3 (8.1)
UAB 4.4 (6.9)
UTSA 2.3 (3.0)
Rice 2.3 (2.6)
UTEP 1.4 (2.5)
Three teams within 0.9 conference wins of each other, and the defending champ not far behind.
East Division
Marshall 5.5 (7.6)
FAU 5.5 (7.5)
FIU 5.1 (7.5)
MTSU 3.9 (5.1)
WKU 3.8 (5.5)
ODU 2.6 (4.1)
Charlotte 2.5 (4.1)
Three teams within 0.4 wins of each other, and the defending champ not far behind.
Yeah, this is going to be fun.
C-USA offenses heading into 2019

I had to change the scale on the chart a good amount to fit UTSA in there. What a collapse that was. At least Rice could blame Year Zero for its own inefficiency (the owls also occasionally made some big plays).
C-USA defenses heading into 2019
Tumblr media
C-USA defenses ran the gamut last year, from all-or-nothing (UAB) to massively bend-don’t-break (FIU) to, well, nothing-and-break, I guess. But Southern Miss and Marshall are both well-positioned to replicate last year’s numbers, especially the Golden Eagles.
Best 2019 offensive players by team (best overall in bold):
Charlotte: RB Benny LeMay
FAU: QB Chris Robison
FIU: QB James Morgan
Louisiana Tech: WR Adrian Hardy
Marshall: C Levi Brown
MTSU: WR Ty Lee
North Texas: QB Mason Fine
ODU: LT Isaac Weaver
Rice: WR Aaron Cephus
Southern Miss: QB Jack Abraham
UAB: QB Tyler Johnston III
UTEP: LG Bobby DeHaro
UTSA: RT Josh Dunlop
WKU: RB Joshua Samuel
Only a late-season injury could keep Fine from another 4,000-yard passing season last year, and he’ll have the weapons to do it again this year. (He might also have a worse defense at his disposal, which means he’ll have to keep his foot on the gas a bit more.)

Best 2019 defensive players by team
Charlotte: DE Alex Highsmith
FAU: CB James Pierre
FIU: FS Richard Dames
Louisiana Tech: CB Amik Robertson
Marshall: DT Channing Hames
MTSU: LB Khalil Brooks
North Texas: DE LaDarius Hamilton
ODU: LB Lawrence Garner
Rice: SS Prudy Calderon
Southern Miss: CB Ty Williams
UAB: LB/NB Kristopher Moll
UTEP: DT Denzel Chukwukelu
UTSA: CB Cassius Grady
WKU: NB Ta’Corian Darden
This conference is a lot stronger in the back of the defense than in the front, but even with stiff competition, Robertson appears to lead the field by a couple of lengths. He’s phenomenal.

this would be a read more, but i can't do that on mobile so basically just dont read this bc its a personal blog post that i would probs write in my journal but i am too lazy to get up and find a pen i've been researching buddhism a lot lately. especially tibetan buddhism. it's really interesting. the more i learn, the more i feel like i need to know even more. i thought that at first i felt more like i resonated with theravada but the more i look into it i feel like my beliefs blend mahayana and theravada. i also read about a specific branch from tibet that was pretty cool but i cant remember the name. i don't think i know enough about it and i haven't studied it long enough to fully understand or say that i'm buddhist, but so far i enjoy everything i've learned about buddhism and i'm glad i decided to look into it. i've also been wanting to look into hinduism just to see what it's all about (despite having studied it before in the past i actually forgot about most of it). and i do have a copy of the bhagavad gita, but i actually haven't read much more than the first few pages. it picks up in the middle of a story about warring gods and it confused me a bit so i think i should see if i can research the gods involved to understand it a bit better. and the whole thing is in poem form, but i feel like the english translation really cant do the original version justice. it feels like i'm reading someone's really bad poetry when in reality the original thing probably sounded really great and added to the beauty of the text. but there is no way im abt to learn another language to read one book my cat is growling in my bathtub like the mess she is im not sure about college the closer it comes. i love history too, why don't i study history or something instead of film and get an actual education? i feel dumb for wanting to live in colorado and go to such a nice school just to study something that will never get me a good job. idk im worried im rly worried. and im worried about making friends too. and i wont be able to have my cat until i get an apartment which wont be till at least sophomore year. what if i get a bad roommate too and what if no boys like me bc im not as pretty as the other girls!!! what if i dont like it there and i have to come home and go to MTSU and my dad leaving for 4 months was for nothing!!!!!!! i want to cry just thinking about it ok i stayed up all night bc i have no self control apparently. anyway im going to sleep now
