people thinking that all afab nonbinary people are inherently moving towards masculinity and all amab nonbinary people are inherently moving towards femininity.
this is exorsexism.
this idea is often used to justify using the terms transmasculine and transfeminine in some kind of universally applicable way, but it's based on a gross oversimplification of the gender spectrum as a slider between male and female/masculine and feminine.
there is an infinite number of directions for an amab nonbinary person to go in. femininity is not the only one just because the gender binary says so. they could transition into an in between space, considering themself androgynous rather than masc or fem. they could transition into neutrality. they could transition into nonbinary masculinity. they could transition out of gender altogether. they could transition into a gender that has no ties to the binary. they could transition into fluidity. they could transition into an infinite number of things. the same is true for an afab nonbinary person.
take xenogenders for example. if an afab nonbinary person identifies as a specific xenogender, they'd be considered more masculine than before, but if an amab nonbinary person identified as the exact same gender, they'd be considered to be more feminine than before, even though most xenogenders aren't inherently masculine or feminine. not all nonbinary genders consist of a balance of masculinity and femininity.
when i came out, i didn't move towards the opposite of my AGAB by virtue of moving away from my AGAB. i am now equally far away from both.
the gender spectrum is not linear.

A List of Gender Terms !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I disappeared for 2 months, but I finally completed this project! :D (Though I've been making some random posts talking about it, so it's not like I was really gone, or what I was working on wasn't obvious.)
It started off as me having trouble keeping track of a couple gender terms (and also not knowing they existed before, since I've never really seen people talk about them), then I thought I should make a list, and if I was going to do that I might as well post it to help other people too. Which I started out trying to make that list on Tumblr, but I found it too limiting so I moved to google docs, which I also found too limiting (I just couldn't achieve my vision, if you will), and now I know html and css.
As usual, I kinda overdid it, but I think I should be a little proud of myself. I had 0 knowledge of html and css, and 2 months later I've made my own website. (I could have made it much quicker, but I often had to take breaks, a bit overwhelmed by all that new stuff.)
Tumblr media
Anyways, it has a ton of terms on there.
I have sections for nonbinary, abinary, midbinary, atrinary, midtrinary, androgyne, agender, neutrois, maverique, ilyagender, aporagender, outherine, kenochoric, and xenogender.
For 7 categories (sex terms, adult, general term, child, gender quality, gender-quality-in-nature genders, and spectrum / -iagender spectrum).
And they all have sources on both Archive Today, Wayback Machine, and if still existing, the original post too. (At least to the best of my abilities, and there are a couple of exceptions that I couldn't figure out.)
Tumblr media
I did put effort into this, but it's possible I missed something. So if I made a mistake anywhere, or if anyone has any extra information to add on, or if you just have some comments, you can tell me. My ask box is open, but comments on this post would probably be fine too.
Also, I checked on a couple of different browsers, mobile too, and read up on web accessibility and checked and all that (I tried using a screen reader, I'm not a pro at it though, so it's possible I may have missed something obvious), so I hope the website itself is useable. But if there's any bugs there, just tell me (it'll be appreciated).
Tumblr media
I'm also thinking of making another compilation, but for flags (for all of the terms listed here), and maybe orientations too, but maybe later haha
I also don't know how to write a image id for the top picture, if anyone wants to write to one I'll add it.
-
Below the cut is a short little video scrolling through the site.

welcome to this is exorsexism.
this is an account to highlight exorsexism, so that more people learn to recognise it when it's happening and we can fight it better.
what happens here is that i will post examples of exorsexism here as i encounter it, as well as submitted examples. this can be stories of exorsexism of offline or online exorsexism. if not immediately clear, i may provide an explanation of how something is exorsexist.
this is also a safe space for nonbinary people to vent or rant about exorsexism.
you can submit exorsexism you encountered to me via submissions or asks. if you send a screenshot of someone being exorsexist, please make sure to crop or censor any identifying information such as their username and profile picture. this account is for educational purposes and for nonbinary people to vent their experiences, not to send harassment to anyone.
exorsexism from within nonbinary and wider transgender communities is also welcome as that too needs awareness.
not sure if something you want to submit counts as exorsexism? submit it anyway and we can talk about it. and if you think your exorsexism experience isn't "bad enough" to be submitted: yes, it is.
credit where credit is due: this account is very much inspired by @exorsexistbullshit who sadly hasn't been active in going on 5 years, as well as casualableism on instagram.
submission rules:
since this is a blog to highlight a form of bigotry and oppression that also often intersects with other forms of oppression, a "no bigotry" rule doesn't make sense here. however, being bigoted towards bigots is not welcome here. this includes calling bigots or bigotry -phobic (i.e. "homophobia"), narcissistic, delusional, lame, blind, cr*zy, st*pid and more.
the key difference here is whether you are quoting bigotry you have encountered or whether you're being bigoted as well.
i am multiply disabled and we don't do that kind of thing here, so if i ignored your ask or blocked you, that's probably why.
FAQ
what is exorsexism?
in short, exorsexism is the oppression of and bigotry against nonbinary people. it is essentially sexism directed at nonbinary people. furthermore, it also includes the hatred of anything heavily associated with nonbinary people, like certain pronouns. exorsexism ranges from the erasure of nonbinary people to outright hostility. there are many different kinds of exorsexism as there are many different kinds of nonbinary people. exorsexism affects the whole range of nonbinary gender identities, including but not limited to agender, multigender, genderfluid, aporagender & xenogender people, as well as androgynes, nonbinary men & nonbinary women. here's an incomplete list of examples of exorsexism: nonbinary erasure, not just erasure of all nonbinary people, but also of more specific gender identities, forcing nonbinary people into the gender binary or creating new gender-related binaries to force us into (e.g. amab/afab, masc/fem, men/non-men, cisgender/transgender), thinking gender can't be fluid, thinking everyone has to have a gender, thinking nonbinary identities are new, a trend, a choice, a phase or a way to try and be special, erasing exorsexism as a specific form of oppression, thinking nonbinary people have to look a certain way, centring binary people & experiences in communities that have historically included us, mocking they, it and neopronouns, thinking that "everyone is a bit nonbinary"/reducing nonbinaryhood to gender nonconformity, thinking nonbinary people are just deviations from binary genders, i.e. men & women lite.
why don't you call it binarism?
because binarism is more specific than exorsexism.
teehee, i thought it said exorcism!
i don't care. now back to business.
how long is your queue?
it's set to post 4 times a day. if you were to send something in today it would be posted in about 2 weeks.
why has my submission not been posted?
it's either in the queue waiting to be posted or has been deleted due to violation of the submission guidelines.
why should i care about exorsexism?
for the same reason you hopefully care about other marginalised groups. if you don't, then i can't convince you to care and that's not why i'm here.
can i submit if i'm binary?
yes! we love seeing binary people being aware of exorsexism.

Oddly enough I categorize my transmasculinity as "female to aporagender masculinity" "female to butch" "female to maverique masculinity" "female to proxvir" "female to nymboy" or "female to altexoy" rather than "female to male" or "female to nonbinary male" or "female to agender male" or even (what's becoming common at least on transmasc mogaiblr) "female to rosboy"

Asteresque: A gender that is not male, female, or anything in between and is entirely unaligned and neutral at its core. It is not ambiguous nor is it genderless. Its neutral quality can often "soften" or "neutralize" other genders, acting as a balancing element in one's gender experience (particularly for multigender people, where one gender might feel more aligned or more strongly felt.) It falls under the nonbinary, aporagender, and ningender umbrellas and is not necessarily xenine, but may be viewed that way by some people who use the label.
This term comes from aster as in a star and the suffix -esque to mean that it has a star-like quality - this is a reference to stellarian, which describes an unaligned nonbinary person (a Stellar Nonbinary person.) Thus, this word means a "stellar-like" gender. It is used as an adjective so you would say "I am asteresque" or "My gender is asteresque."
This term was created as a similar gender to neutrois, but without any ties to genderlessness or ambiguity. It differs from epicene in this way as well, because epicene is typically a lack of gender distinction (ambiguity.) It also doesn't use the -gender suffix that many other terms use such as neugender, aporagender, or ningender.
I borrowed colors from my stellarian redesign (the green one of course) to make this flag and even kept the star symbol for it. I used greens and yellow to represent neutrality but took out the gray, which to me felt like it represented ambiguity. I even made a red variant similar to one of the stellarian redesigns above:

Tumblr media
I wasn't quite sure how to incorporate other gender flags into the genderslider flag, because the base flag doesn't really have much colour/stripe meanings besides the center dark blue bar representing a sliding scale. I settled on putting the putting the gender flag in the background, and the blue/green slider on top. It's pretty simplistic, but I wasn't sure how else to mix the flags together, and I think it fits decently. They're layered on top of each other, with the base gender being static / always present, and the slider changing on top (I also think the cool colours fit with change/fluidity, like water).
I added outlines to the slider for better contrast. For the outline colours, I chose what it was on top of (in the case of 2 center stripes, what it contrasted best with), and if that didn't fit, then plain white (though kenochoricslider specifically uses black, to match the overall theme better). There's also 2 slider versions, rounded and squared, since I couldn't choose between them. The squared version is more like the original flag, but rounded feels more like a slider to me (which I think is influenced by my learning of css design, IRL sliders are probably more rectangular).
