#Magic vs Science

Honestly, from everything I know and have heard about scientists in real life, if magic got shown to be indisputably real, they'd probably be some of the first to latch onto it, to a sound track of, "Can I please have a grant to study this, I want to study this, I want to study this so bad, please, I wanna run tests, I already have so many tests I want to run and we only found out about this yesterday, please give me grant money please please please please please-!!!"

Danny Phantom AU where everything is the same except there's another ghost hunting (investigating) family who use occult and magic besides the Fenton who use science (and Danny who is a halfa but besides this point). I want to see the magic family (let's call them the Greys) wanting to one-up the Fenton while the teenage grey goes to Casper high and didn't notice Danny's unusually ghostly thing while looking for ghosts in Casper high.

The Greys have magical items( think like a compass that points to the nearest ghost or something like that.) And ghost warding magic with blood blossom crossbow but they have only a magic spell that pulls a ghost into the ghost zone that is situational( the ghost has to stay in a spot for one minute.) While the Fenton thermos is better at catching ghosts and got a ghost portal. While the Fenton are looking to capture a ghost to learn about it while the Greys learn the ghost past(by studying the ghost family history and even learn how they died, the Greys also help the police with murder cases to learn about a ghost death)to figure out their weaknesses and the reason for the ghost purpose for haunting Amity Park. When the Greys saw Danny Phantom fight ghosts they were confused about the new ghost that they didn't know about and try to figure out how Danny came to be but every time they tried to learn about Danny he just hid and changed form as his halfa state confused the magic compass as he is technically alive.

I want someone to write about where Danny help the Greys with a Teke-Teke (a Japanese urban legend there a bottomless lady spirit killed by train haunted a train station and kill people with a scythe) while the Greys are having a conflicted idea about either letting Danny help them or just getting information while fighting the spirit.

The Greys are a major power for Amity Park when they are pulled into the ghost zone by Pariah Dark because their magic item and training help against the ghost army and distracted Fright Knight from helping Pariah Dark.

The teenage Grey ( let us call him Joseph) is a student of Casper high and carries a couple of magic items ( the magic compass and a magic yo-yo that can hurt ghosts even while intangible) while trying to find a ghost (Danny) but his compass is having a weird moment while near Danny but Joseph didn't notice, but don't mistake him for a fool (think him as Joseph Joestar) as he first find Danny Phantom fighting the lunch Lady he misdirected lunch Lady into the freezer and with Danny help capture her,( after this as Joseph is turned Danny leave before Joseph ask about him).

Edit: the Greys absolutely HATES the GIW because they caused collateral damage and possibly death which means more ghosts and the GIW occasionally fight the Greys because they thought magic using are ghost ability as well making the Greys job harder.

Edit edit: When the Greys heard about halfa they thought the halfa are made from a relationship between a ghost and a human, not an artificial accident from a ghost portal. And the Greys can let a ghost possess them while still in control with power ( think geist the sin eater power).also Joseph is on one step higher on the popular ladder then team phantom because when Dash tried to bully Joseph he just sudo flip Dash to the locker in front of the A-lister and scare them.

Okay, I GOTTA get this off my chest at this point.

Recently, I’ve been reading a lot of free fiction that has involved magic suddenly existing and interacting with the real world (both past & modern). My big issue is this:

In almost every single story where magic meets science/technology, magic is just this needlessly overpowered thing that immediately renders literal centuries of human ingenuity and innovation pointless and moot.

Magic immediately becomes the ONLY thing that matters.

This doesn’t bother me so much in stories where magic is clearly supposed to be a big, scary threat but everything else?

Oh sure, classic mythological monsters got hurt by swords and knives and arrows but a GUN or modern naval cannons/missiles/etc.? Weapons that blow apart man-made metals and stone that are FAR tougher than anything that exists in nature. Might as well be using a Super Soaker

What’s that? The perfectly intact cellphone doesn’t work right now just… because?

The periodic table? Oh, that’s just a lie clever faeries tricked us into believing as a joke centuries ago. None of that actually works.

It’s lazy, it’s annoying and I’m coming across it EVERYWHERE. It’s not that god damned hard to make a good balance if you’re gonna make a fantasy story in any sort of modern-ish setting.

They’re not even explaining WHY anymore.

in general I would not mind any direction Jack takes the canon ego content and I will continue to do my own thing or take influence from it as I like, but I really do hope that, if and when Henrik and Marvin meet in canon, they just hate each other so so much <3

Magical girl and Superhero tend to have a lot in common (both are pretty broad descriptors though) but one thing I’ve noticed is that there can be a subtle difference in how the “self” is viewed.

Both magical girl and superhero have the civilian and superhero self come into conflict with each other, but in my experience, magical girl views both identities as the true version while superhero tends to pick one.

For example, Superman is Kal-El, the last Kryptonian. He’s a strong alien and Clark Kent is his secret identity. Bruce Wayne is Batman and Bruce Wayne is the thing he does when he isn’t Batman. There’s usually a hierarchy.

Meanwhile, magical girl doesn’t tend to pick one. Sakura is the card captor and the normal girl as a singular identity. For Sailor Moon, Usagi has an arc in both the 90s anime and the manga where she feels conflicted between if she’s Princess Serenity of the Silver Millennium, Sailor Moon the guardian of justice, or Usagi Tsukino the normal girl. And the conclusion of this arc is that she’s all of these at once, not just a singular one.

I think this comes down to how the self is historically viewed across cultures. In the west we tend to consider a “true” unchanging self, while most eastern philosophy doesn’t consider a singular true self. I wouldn’t say this is a conscious bias in either case, but a lot of cultural concepts can still be traced back to historical philosophy. Superhero comics originate in the west and magical girl comics originate in the east, so both genres generally reflect their respective historical philosophies.

Aiden smiled fondly at her great grandmother. Her words helped ease that doubt she had been feeling as of late. "Thank you, Grams. You always knew the right words to say to cheer me up. Also to remind me just what I could do."

Grams was an inspiration to her due to all the stories she was told and her talks with her as well. It was why she carried her middle name quite proudly even if she was only known or called by her first. It did comfort her that she could summon her at the shop. Though next time, the loft probably would work just as good.

She found it rather odd that this was happening. She had to do more research on the victims and why they were possibly targeted. The only issue she was having was trying to be sneaky around FBI agents. If what Brennan said about Booth was true and his skills, she had no chance to sneak around him.

"She's a firm believer in science. Which I do admire. If I could provide solid evidence that my mythology is factual, she would take it more seriously." she couldn't help but laugh at her words though. "No, I have thought about it. But I'm not sure even that would make her a believer. she might argue that I'm doing a really fancy magic trick."

"Oh, my dear, magic doesn't care where you are," Penny told her with a sigh. "What matters is your intent, knowing what it is you want to happen. And your power, of course," she added. "But you've never lacked on that."

Stepping back from the hug, Penny took a moment to look at her great-granddaughter, taking her all in. She was well aware how fast time could pass in the living world, but it was still a bit of a shock. A pleasant shock, but a shock all the same.

"Ash statues?" She repeated, one eyebrow raised, automatically trying to see if it rang any subconscious bells. She wasn't certain whether there was something in the Book of Shadows about it, but she was feeling confident she hadn't faced such a thing herself before. Statues of ice, statues of stone, but statues of ash? That was a new one.

"And, well, this charge mustn't be very bright if she's still not believing in magic." Non-witches were pone to not believing, it was true, but when an actual witch was telling you? Well that was just downright ignorant. "Have you shown her your magic?"

Anyway that magic vs science thing pisses me off because I can tell people involved have neither faith nor knowledge so they both fail in their respective areas

The Science side fails at understanding science and the universe and the magic side fail at wonder and faith
