In case anyone doesn’t know why Channing Tatum randomly showed up in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Gambit:
Way back when the Fox X-Men universe was still in full swing, Tatum signed on to play Gambit in a movie. I believe he signed on after Gambit appeared in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. The project was stuck in development hell, then cancelled. So this was Ryan Reynolds’ tribute to the cancelled project and why Gambit believed he was born in the Void.

GOTG 3 SPOILERS
Can’t stop thinking about this
Floor and Teefs were begging Rocket to leave. But, he was too distraught and consumed by grief over Lylla to listen. Floor and Teefs died because of that. And that’s something Rocket has blamed himself over for a very long time.

deadpool and wolverine is an interesting movie because the plot doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you engage with the movie metatextually and i think that’s kind of the point anyways.
logan being the anchor being of wade’s universe doesn’t make sense at face value. but this is a movie about the fox franchises almost more than it’s a deadpool story. logan is the anchor being of deadpool’s world because hugh jackman’s wolverine was the star of the x-men movies. him ending the character with logan + disney’s acquisition of fox is what’s truly ending wade’s universe because that era of x-men movies is truly gone.
and yeah those fox movies probably have more misses than hits but there was still a lot of effort put into making those movies. 2000s fantastic four is kind of terrible but i was obsessed with that movie as a child and i’m still fond of it. hugh jackman and ryan reynolds got their superhero start in those movies and you can tell for as uneven as the quality is, they’re still very fond of that time.
and especially because the commentary surrounding those movies is they don’t “matter” anymore because the mcu version will soon take over and surely be superior (which they directly reference by talking about how the prime timeline AKA the mcu is the only important one that needs to be preserved, while all other timelines can be discarded and thrown to the void).
but as someone who grew up on the fox movies, it was nice to see these characters be given a second chance. elektra’s movie was universally panned but here she got to be a badass hero. and yeah, wade and logan’s happy ending combined with the credits scenes showing the decades of bts footage of the fox movies did make me emotional.
