WESTMINISTER LORE DUMP

This is a long one so strap in and also is a bit more all-over-the-place compared to my other lore dumps

This one includes a lot of abuse, manipulation, torture, human experimentation, and murder.

The Westminister University for Biological Study (also nicknamed WUBS or The Tower). An influential corporation lead by one Dr. Simon Hernandez. They do a lot of general sciencey-stuff and is well-known for pioneering several different kinds of biological magics (like botanical magic, healing, etc). But something much more sinister lurks under the surface. As you can assume, they serve as the main antagonist for most of the story.

Let’s start from the beginning.

WUBS was founded by two men named Simon Hernandez and Greyson Apollo at least 20 years before the events of the campaign.

Greyson was the genius behind the magic sciences of it all. Being a prodigy in botanical magic, he engineered a way to sort of regenerate lost parts of corpses using plants. Ideal for organ donation and also funeral services.

Simon was and always will be more business-minded. Greyson was downright awful with people and he needed someone charismatic like Simon.

Simon, however, is a nasty motherfucker behind the scenes. Driven entirely by greed, a lust for power, and some… fascinating interests.

Greyson was really the only one at the time who was consistently able to avoid Simon’s scare tactics and just.. not take any of his shit.

Which is why it isn’t a shock when Simon murders Greyson in cold blood when he vetoes a new project idea Simon had pitched. Simon now has total control of the company and the power to lead this new secret project.

Simon, being the very un-subtle man he is, names it the mutant program. (Worth noting that he stole this entire idea from a 12 year old so uh. Take that as you will).

The mutant program focuses on taking people in and pushing their anatomy to its limits, creating these awful hybrid monsters with no humanity left. Using a series of polymorph and transmutation magic, brainwashing and mind control rituals (to erase their humanity and make sure they don’t start mauling the important employees), and surgeries. The process of these can take years. Three of them (namely number 1, number 4, and number 13) will become semi-important later.

Most of the experiment’s mutations also have something to do with insects. Huh. Wonder what’s up with that..

Anyway. The aftermath of Greyson’s death is a disastrous one. Simon is fucking terrible and decides to band together with Greyson’s also kind of terrible parents to force the man’s much younger brother (around 18 at the time) to get a job at WUBS.

The brother is named Revon Apollo. A pessimistic and moody kid who is walking straight from one enormous disaster (an incident in high school), and moving across the country to be involved in another enormous disaster (the entirety of WUBS)

Flash forward 20 years and Revon’s mainly just a glorified personal assistant to Simon. (Hey uh, isn’t it weird that Simon’s barely aged yet claims to be human?) He deals with the finances and paperwork Simon is too busy to handle, communications, and also covering up the occasional murder that pops up in the wake of Simon’s increasing paranoia and anger issues.

But it’s not all bad for him. He’s married to an entomologist named Mateo (possibly the sweetest man alive) and he took in the teenaged child of Westminister's most important business partner/donor after she showed up on his doorstep one dark and stormy night.

Enter the party.

Made up of, at the time, a homicidal priest fish, her terrifying but much more level-headed body guard, and a conman. (I might go over the party more in-depth in another post)

They infiltrate the offices of Westminister, corner Revon in the bathroom, and drown him in the toilet. Thinking he was someone else. Yikes.

It gets worse when Simon fucking Hernandez tracks down where they hid the body and retrieves it. Claiming the corpse for experiment number 13 (I swear the unlucky number thing was sheer coincidence lmao ALSO I TOLD YOU HE'D BE IMPORTANT LATER).

You see. There's something I've neglected to bring up about Simon up until this point and I can't really avoid it any more so I'm gonna have to go on another tangent.

Drakes.

Drakes are essentially less powerful dragons. Dragons in this game are like natural disasters, you are not supposed to fight them you are supposed to survive them. The corpses of dragons make up entire large islands.

Drakes are a little closer to the traditional D&D-style dragon. They are also typically associated with some group of the animal kingdom and/or a specific habitat. For instance; red drakes are birds, yellow drakes are arthropods (mainly arachnids), green drakes are plants and moss. They effectively rule over a swarm of those animals and they gradually mutate to look closer to their drake counterpart.

When a drake dies it becomes a battle between those animals to consume the heart of the drake's corpse. Whichever emerges victorious, mutates into a new drake.

However if say, a human eats the heart first, they become a drakeling. They will also mutate into a drake. But the process is much slower. They gradually gain more and more abilities such as wings, the ability to communicate with and control members of that drake's animal kingdom, heightened strength, lengthened life-span, and other abilities typically associated with those animals.

And as I'm sure you've guessed, Simon himself is a drakeling. It's a very well-kept secret as he personally tears off any carapace-like scales that grow over his skin. Ridding himself of any physical evidence. There are things he can't change, however.

He can't change the damage it does to his skin when he tears off the scales, he can't change how his smile stretches just a tad too wide, nor can he change the fact that his office is always infested with some ant colony (despite it being on the 12th floor of Westminister's offices). A Yellow Web-Spinning drakeling through and through.

The power it gives him is intoxicating, and it's started to drive him a little more than crazy over the past several decades. But it's not enough. It's never been enough. He needs to weaponize drakelings. He needs to create more of them, all under his command.

And who better to start this project than with the fresh corpse of his ex-employee.

Experiment number 13 is a rush-job to be sure. The mutations haphazardly held together with an almost constant blood transfusion, delivering Simon's drakeling blood to Revon. Yet Revon is somehow resistant to the control. Simon realizes he was playing with fire. It's futile to control someone who will inevitably be as powerful as him. Yet he presses on, something about taking out his anger about Greyson on the mans younger brother is so deeply gratifying (dude. it was 20 years ago, chill out. all he did was refuse to bow down to you).

Revon himself isn't doing so hot. Weeks have passed and the mutations keep growing. His entire body from his lower jaw down has been covered with this metallic dark-green carapace-like armor, highlighted with gold (me pointing at the 'yellow' in yellow drakelings). The carapace lengthens his fingertips into wicked-looking claws.

His eyes, once deep blue, shifted into something much less human.

A third arm also seems to be have grown in, with plans of implanting a fourth one as well. Not to mention the fully functional pincers sitting between his lips and the long scorpion tail.

Luckily before Revon loses his mind entirely, the party busts in breaking Revon out of that labratory and knocking him out. Planning on using him for information (yeah the party isn't exactly ethically-sound 100% of the time). He manages to befriend two of the newer members (the ones that weren't responsible for his murder) and the group sets off on their quest to deal with Simon and WUBS as a whole.

God I really need to draw/write for Revon more. He's one of my favorite OCs.

With the 1 year anniversary of East Haven's opening, we have decided to have an event that centers around a wind storm that is blowing it's way through town, inciting chaos where ever it goes. The event will start on January 5th at 12pm (noon) and end on January 15th at 12am (midnight). No new starters should be posted after January 10th.

You were placed into groups that are listed below. You will be expected to write with at least one character in that group that you normally do not write with. You are still free to do other threads with others in the group, but are required to at least one.

Her abuela is re-entering the dating game as a spicy septuagenarian, her parents (veterans in the telenovela world) are campaigning for the mainstream market while Lucia and her friends continue to make waves at their exclusive performing arts school- even expertly crafting "meet-cutes" to get the attention of her longtime crush. With her school's talent showcase coming up, Lucia plans to devote all her attention to her top-secret screenplay. What she didn't count on? A gravity stopping, breathtaking, knee wobbling, hotter than fireworks, soul shattering kiss with the son of her father's rival in the industry, another telenovela actor that recently gained mainstream success in a summer blockbuster movie. I love how you describe Lana being so meticulous with what she shares about herself and at the same time wanting to tell Ethan more and more.

and yes oh my god i DO have a backstory for her and it is excessive and traumatizing and honestly i feel a little bad for putting my fav girl through so much but dhjjss here it is *gets up on my soapbox*:

Lana's surname at birth wasn't actually Brooks, it was Hernandez. She was born into an extremely wealthy family, we're talking Swiss Bank Account levels of rich.

Her father Mateo is Spanish while her mom Nicola was English. They met as work colleagues and had a torrid love affair which resulted in them getting married after about 6 months of knowing one another (Red Flag #1 - very love-bombing vibes). While the beginning of the relationship was almost close to perfect, the longer it went on the more Mateo's temper & anger issues started to rear its ugly head. And then, 6 months after their marriage- Lana was born.

Mateo & Nicola were both over the moon. It wasn't exactly a planned pregnancy, but both were extremely happy albeit for different reasons. For Nicola, it was in the hope that a child would mellow Mateo out, while for Mateo it was due to the fact that he would have an 'heir' of sorts to takeover his skyrocketing success in the business world.

But alas, a child cannot save your marriage; it doesn't change a person. Mateo was extremely abusive, both physically and verbally. At first, Nicola didn't leave him because she loved him and kept giving him second chances. But after that, she didn't leave because he was a successful, rich, narcissistic man who taunted and threatened her whenever they had their massive blowouts.

Lana absolutely loathed her father- he was cruel, abusive and extremely demanding. He would swing wildly from one spectrum to another- showering her with love and praise whenever she did well one minute and then berating and hitting her when she deigned to disagree with him the next. He would never actually apologize - saying "I'm sorry I hit you but if you hadn't done xyz it wouldn't have come to this" is not an apology.

When Lana was around 14 years old, her mom started doing drugs- heroin. She became a drug addict, her work and happiness started slipping. Lana would often have to clean her up and get her sobered before Mateo came home otherwise she knew it would lead to another massive fight where he would call her words like "junkie whore". The roles basically were reversed- with a 14 year old having to take care of her own mother instead of the other way around.

And then, when Lana was 16- she found her mom's body on the floor- she had overdosed on drugs and didn't make it (it pretty much played out like that gut-wrenching scene in Euphoria where Gia finds Rue on the floor after she overdosed). As you can imagine, that was pretty fucking traumatising.

Lana had already decided from a young age that she would distance herself from her father as soon as she could, but this just solidified the idea in her mind- she was not going to have any connection with her father as soon as she turned 18.

Lana was already exceptionally smart, but after that she knew what she had to do- she had to work her ass off and get at-least a partial scholarship for med school. Her goal was Harvard, which of course was extremely difficult- but she was determined (I know getting even a partial scholarship to Harvard sounds INSANE but i literally have two friends who got scholarships for Harvard & Yale because they were extremely smart and determined so it's definitely possible).

She started studying even harder, getting top grades and participating in a myriad of extracurriculars to pad her resume. Then, when she turned 18 and had graduated high school- she took a chunk of the money her dad had left for her in her trust fund for when she turned 18 and never looked back. She changed her last name to Brooks.

She got into med school but of course even with the trust fund money financial stability is hard - she has to get two jobs - a bartender and a waitress while also being in med school. It's difficult, it's challenging - but she has to do it. Also her father never bothered contacting or looking for her as well- it was too big of a bruise to his ego.

It's also one of the reasons she never really dated in med school. It was always one night stands or friends with benefits. She just didn't have the time. But also, she just didn't want to let people in which given her backstory makes a lot of sense HSSJSK

Life was difficult in her 20s, but she also met two of her best friends- Dominik & Isabella. Dominik was your quintessential sarcastic fuckboy- very charming, never taking anything seriously. But god his friendship with Lana is my favorite thing- they're polar opposites but work so well together. That man secretly has a heart of gold and honestly him & Lana are platonic soulmates. The only person she trusts wholeheartedly- the only person she opens up to. Apart from Isabella, of course. Isabella reminds me a lot of Sienna, very soft-spoken and kind and gentle. Once again, very opposite to Lana but they worked.

The three of them were inseperable- all polar opposites from one another but somehow... it just worked. But then, Isabella got pregnant at quite a young age- 22. Her and her boyfriend Damien decided to keep the baby- and that's when little baby girl Alana was born. Bella named her daughter after Lana and asked her to be her godmother. Dominik was all pouty about the fact that Bella didn't name her kid after him DHJSJS but she promised that if she ever had a boy, Dominik would be next in line LMAO. Alas, that never happened. Isabella tragically passed away in a horrible car accident when Alana was only 2 years old. Lana & Dominik were absolutely devasted. Dominik was her only family after that (I actually HC that in the Dolores chapter Lana opens up to Ethan about Alana and Bella and gives him advice on how to cope with the grief I need to write it out someday).

There's so much more I can say I can literally sit here and rant all day but this is already INCREDIBLY long I am so sorry. But now I think it's crystal clear why Lana is the way she is HSJSJS
