When Obanai got closer to you, he realized you had earphones plugged in, clogging any other sounds. He quickly took you in a tight hug, pulling your waist, making you jump and yelp out. Locking his hands on your abdomen, he pulled one of them back and brushed your hair away from your ears, taking the earphones off and letting them hang by their wire. ”Hey! why’d you do that?” you whined, pushing yourself off him with wet hands from the sink, getting his clothes damp. “You couldn’t hear me,” he said, yawning as if you weren’t trying to wrestle yourself from him just now. “I was calling you.”

You sighed. “You expect me to hear you over music on full blast?”

“What are you even listening to in the first place?”

You slipped one of your hands out of his grasp and took one of the earphone buds, placing it in his ear.

He nearly let go of you when he felt the sudden vibration go through his head. “So loud!” he muttered, forcing the earphone off. You shrugged, then smiling. “That’s how I like my music. Loud until I’m deaf.”

You turned around, but your waist still pressed against his with his arms around you, pressing the button which lowered sounds on your phone. The earphones wire were plugged in the little socket hole, and he saw Spotify open, with the song titled NYMPHOLOGY nearing its end. When you lowered the volume a little, you put the earbud again in his ear, the music a little less loud now.

He noticed the beat was completely different from the one when the music was practically blasting his ears off. “Is this the same song?”

you nodded. “It’s the interlude called “ Amulet “. The song’s called Nymphology, by Melanie Martinez!” he saw the obvious grin spread across your face as you mentioned this singer’s name. “You’re a fan, huh?” he chuckled, putting the earphone in your ear instead of his now. You nodded. “I love Mel!”

You end up telling him all about her as you’re doing stuff at the countertop. He’s acting like he’s forced to listen, but he does actually enjoy your stories about the peculiar split-hair colored girl who died and was reincarnated as a nymph.

MITSURI 

Mitsuri always found you humming to a song, sometimes softly muttering lyrics under your breath, which she found cute.

She’s heard you do it so much, she learned the words perfectly without listening to the official song from you, and finally decided to ask you about it as you were eating dinner with her.

“Hey, dear?” she said, in between chewing, spooning another scoop of food into her lips. “Hm? What’s up?” you responded, meeting eyes with her. “What’s that one song called?” she said, tapping her cheek. “The one that you always sing...”

Unaware that you ever did sing since you did it while zoning out, you were quite confused. “Huh? what song?”

She giggled at your confused expression. “The one that goes, “You are the light I’ve been searching for forever”. I hear you everyday! Your voice is so angelic.” she grinned widely. You were unable to tell her about the pieces of food stuck in the corners of her teeth, as per bringing up a conversation about your favorite song perked your ears up. “Light shower?” you asked, reaching for your phone in your pocket. “I can play it for you if you’d like,” 

she nodded eagerly. “Please do!”

You set your phone on the table, and let the soft instrumental intro begin. She tilted her head, clearly already liking it. 

“ You are the light I've been searchin' for forever Feels like, man, I've really never felt the rain Buried in the desert, didn't think I'd push through the dirt You just cleansed me like a waterfall, you came. ”

She softly started to go along with the singing, knowing the lyrics at heart, but having difficulty matching with the beat as it was her first time actually hearing the actual song. It was so cute to hear her stumble on words, realizing she got the tone wrong as she tried to sing with Melanie. All you could hear was the peaceful sound of that until the ending of the song...

“ But you made me want to Plan out my last days on earth, eating you Ooh-ooh-ooh The tips of your teeth fit perfect in me You're a shower of light I'd devour any day of the week (Baby, cleanse me). “

When it came to an end, Mitsuri was grinning. “I know all the lyrics!” she said proudly. “Yes you do,” you smiled back at her, then spooned another scoop of your food that you had accidentally left abandoned while listening to the song with Mitsuri doing a poor but at least cute attempts of tagging along.

She ends up re-watching the K-12 film with you almost every night, acting as if she didn’t know what would happen next, as if she hadn’t watched it the night before with you. She listens to the songs, crying to the emotional ones and singing with the ones she found to be happy. You’ve done it. You made Mitsuri a MELON MARTINI FAN :exploding_head:

Again back to my last EOA post, and a comment I saw on a repost of it, I am 1000000% on board with the idea of the whole plot of Elena of Avalor, and some of the things in it, being a whole metaphor for Elena trying to keep herself from being driven to insanity aka becoming an evil dictator. Based on the personal research I’ve done, and connecting the dots to Elena’s character, I’ve noticed some key things in the show that sort of represent many “symptoms” of what a “clinically insane” person goes through.

Elena witnessed her own parents death right in front of her eyes. This alone should be traumatizing enough, but not even like 5 minutes later, Shuriki blasts her, but the amulet pulled her inside of it to save her. (Or at least, I like to think she did die, but her soul was sucked into the amulet, thus her possessing it, Five Nights At Freddy’s style). Elena is now sitting in the amulet, in what I think was a sort of state like Locked In Syndrome? Because when she did get out the amulet in Secret Of Avalor, she looked like she was sleeping, AND she forgot how to walk, hell even move around. So I think since she was in there for so long, she started “fusing” with the amulet, thus falling into a sort of coma, but still highly aware of whats going on around her + outside the amulet, but thats besides my point. She spends 40+ years, isolated from the world, with no one to talk to, no source of brain stimulation, no form of movement, just NOTHING. Shes trapped in a void. (*Void by Melanie Martinez starts playing*). Now looking at irl facts, there is no absolute way Elena didnt go insane in the amulet.

Looking at neuroscience, and the world of EOA, we can see the way Elena interacts with the world, and apply those statistics to Elena herself. In an article from The Royal Society Publishing, The Article titled “Perceived Social Isolation, Evolutionary Fitness and Health Outcomes: a LifeSpan Approach.” Written by Louise C. Hawkley, and John P. Capitanio states: “A sampling of recent studies shows that socially isolated housing of various social animal species at various stages of life and for various durations results in altered behaviour (e.g. anxious, depression-like, aggressive, passive, cognition/memory), physiology (e.g. changes in basal or stress–reactive corticosterone, blood pressure, inflammation, immune responses, hippocampal function) and mortality (e.g. post-stroke outcomes)” In the show, we can see Elena suffer through majority of these affects. Especially when it comes to her cognitive ability and critical thinking skills. We see her struggle hard in the show to solve problems, regarding the kingdom, and when communicating with other people.

I will also talk about the fact Elena can see ghosts, and Spirit Guides. I know, she has this power because “The amulet gave it to her.” But think of it this way: The amulet; her trauma, and Elena had to face “the trauma” for a LOOOOONG period of time. Another key factor when it comes to isolation, hallucinations. An Israeli adventurer/author Yossi Ghinsberg spent 3 weeks stranded in the Amazon rainforest (they actually made a movie about him‼️) Ghinsberg stated, due to him being isolated from society without any social contact/interaction, he experienced hallucinations. So what if metaphorically, Elena seeing the Spirit Guides, and ghosts, are her having hallucinations from spending 41 years away from society?

Elena’s dress. That goddamn dress. Its mentioned earlier that isolation can affect the brain’s cognitive abilities, and emotional health. So you basically would have trouble regulating your emotions, and your emotions would be all over the place. RING ANY BELLSSSSS⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ Her magic dress is a metaphor for her decline in her cognitive skills.

I now conclude my essay on how crazy I am about this damn kids show. I love Elena sm shes such a complicated character and I LOVE ITTTTTTTTT

I know we're only in the prologue of the arg, but I honestly think of Void when I think of him, since he sounds so trapped. Plus, we're going to be exploring themes of isolation anyway. Also Show and Tell and The Contortionist. Because it feels like he's being used. By who? I'm not sure. Tunnel Vision works, too, mostly cause of the lines involving eyes (open your view, eyes on the prize, your focus is empty, etc.) And the whole song, mainly the line show me how far obsession goes is really fitting for us Wally fangirls.

Barnaby B. Beagle 🐶🤡🌭

In a way, I feel like Field Trip is kinda fitting. I feel like Barnaby's misunderstood by some people in the fandom. He's just a comic who likes playfully teasing people, speaks his mind, and is pretty much on his own path in life. He's just doing what he likes and most don't seem to understand, just like the song. I think Lunchbox Friends works too, mainly for his friendship with Wally. They have such a genuinely good relationship with each other, the type of friends Melanie describes wanting in the song.

Honest to God, he's an Alphabet Boy. Likes things his way and likes to over explain his favorite things. He doesn't mean to come off condescending, but I like to think it just happens by accident for him. Also Fingers Crossed fits him and Eddie. It seems like they want to keep their relationship secret from the others, or one of them has yet to confess but is afraid to.

Jump rope comes to mind, because it's a song about jump roping to distract yourself from your crush. Faerie Soiree works too, especially the ending with the lyrics gather me, all of we, everyone I've been, the boys and the girls and everyone in between. It's also a fun song to dance to, the kind of song I imagine Julie really liking. Recess also works as well, as it's a song about taking a break when things get tough.

She is 1000% Soap, a song about being scared to say too much and be careful with how you are with the person you love. She also seems to love baking so I feel like The Bakery works great as well.

Soap works for him as well, but I feel like Function works, too, with lyrics like tripping on my toes, can't help it, limbs all numb from my mind, and it's generally about being nervous. Time Flies works really well too cause it's a long song that has lines involving sending letters, and Arts and Crafts, since that's what Eddie likes to do.

Emerald works really well, extremely well, it's something I could genuinely see Sally singing (rarity I am, it's offensive, got them on my tail and they're restless). And the Amulet segment of Nymphology. It's pretty much the same as Emerald anyway. Drama Club is also super fitting as it's about being dramatic (who would've guessed lol).

Howdy is said to be kinda bossy and I like the idea of him being The Principal. Numbers also works in a way since he's a business man who's not selling real products, just earning a profit without much effort (as far as we know of course).

Personality:

Yuri is an optimist and a kind person. Contrary to his twin sister, Yuri is quite friendly with everyone and he will help anyone if they are in trouble. However, he will get annoyed and angry when someone tells him that he is a girl or dares to do anything to his twin sister.

Backstory:

Yuri and his twin sister have had to depend on each other since childhood, their parent always fighting each other and they never gave any attention to the twin. Their father was barely at home and their mother was always drunk. Sometimes the mother beat up the twins for very small things, so they had a lot of bruises on their bodies. When Yuri and Morela were 10 years old, their father died because of car accident, their mother was very happy thinking she would be able to take all of her husband's money so she went to the bar and had fun with the celebratory party but she was got robbed and killed on the way back home. Yuri and Morela were forced to move to live with their uncle in England.
