You walk past the new gym every morning to see four extremely large, intimidating men working out. You saw it on accident one morning, but since then, you’ve made it a habit to walk that way to work. Seeing them sweat, push one another for one more rep, and challenge each other makes something in your stomach squirm.
You tell yourself you’re being a creep, that this will be the last time. But then, as if the universe heard you trying to take away the highlight of your day, you see a sign up paper in the window. One free month.
A month wouldn’t hurt.
Tumblr media
You could just walk on the treadmill and watch them. Get the fantasies and thoughts out of your head, then slip away into the night. Like the stalker you were.
You sign up using the QR code with your phone and show up the next morning. It’s strangely empty except for your the four men were there. Already deep in their workouts, with towels tucked in their shorts or tossed over shoulders. Sweet dripping down their backs and faces as they do yet another set of pull ups.
Staking claim to a treadmill, you get to walking, doing your best not to downright stare now that you have an uninterrupted view. It’s difficult, especially when the grunts and pants of exertion make your toes curl.
They don’t pay you too much mind the first few days. But then the biggest, and scariest, of the four approaches you, and asks why you never use any of the other equipment. You stammer out your lack of knowledge or skill and he shushes you saying he’ll show you himself.
You don’t question him or try to tell him no. You feel silly as you learn on the lightest weights as they lift barbells stacked to your body weight like it’s nothing. Your exact weight, actually. Weird.
Week two, Kyle, as he introduces himself, notices you limping a bit. Bit stiff getting on and off the equipment and groaning as you stand. He offers to help you stretch properly. Laying you out on the floor and bending you this way and that. Getting you to groan and sigh in relief as his palms brace your thighs.
Week three, Johnny has you watching him to perfect your form. He asks you to look at how straight his back is in a push-up and feel how his abs move on the standing crunch machine. Then he has you doing the same moves with his hands across your abdomen and back, making sure your core is tight. He grips you a bit hard as you fight to get that last push up grunting from the effort.
By the time your last free week rolls around, you're beginning to question your plan. This was supposed to be a month of getting these guys out of your system. A month of all the fantasies your heart could desire, then walking away. But you don’t want it to end. And it seems they don’t want it to finish either. John approaches you with an offer to continue your trial. You tell him you can’t afford it, not even knowing the price, you can’t take on another expense.
John insists it’s okay. He says he talked to the manager and worked out a deal. You’re making such progress, and they’d miss the company if you left. They need more people using the gym to attract customers anyway.
Which, you realize, is just you and these four guys. There are never any other patrons there. You assumed it was because of how early you’d all work out. But even in the evenings on your way home the space is barren. No one using the equipment and the lights dim.
You agree, sheepishly.
John gives you a wicked grin and a form that oddly has all your information on it already. You just need to read it over, so you start going through all the boring legal parts. But you can feel them all staring as you go paragraph by paragraph. Johnny is standing right next to you with a pen, eager and all smiles. The pressure makes you flip to the last page and just sign. It’s not like they could lock you into something that bad, right? It’s just a gym membership.
“Now the real training begins,” Simon states quietly, pulling the ten page contract out of your hands as Kyle pulls the blinds and flips the lock.

a new face on sixth street.
Tumblr media
wise x reader || 1k wc
in which wise is very focused on solely his proxy and manager duties, and is definitely not intrigued by your move to sixth street.
note: new blog, new beginnings! it’s been so long since i’ve written anything, i feel like i’ve forgotten how. wise has been rattling around in my head nonstop for the last two weeks, so here’s some indulgence~
Tumblr media
a deep breath.
you needed one; lifting boxes to your flat was the most work you’d ever done in your life. mr.chop was helping, for you’d moved into the room just behind his shop, but it was still a bit much.
sitting down on the ground for a break, you scanned your surroundings. so this was sixth street. quite kind, quite warm- it was new, but you had a feeling you’d like it.
opposite to your door seemed to be the side of a shop. what was it? random play?
“har, ya interested in the video shop?”
mr.chop appeared in front of you, snapping you out of your thoughts. you nodded, and his eyes suddenly lit up, seemingly with an idea.
“you know what? you should take a break to meet the managers! they are your age, you know, and- don’t tell them i said this- but they don’t really talk to anyone but each other i think. yes, yes, this will be good! they ordered some noodles too, you can go give it to them. you will be neighbours after all!”
>>-<<
a deep breath.
wise found himself having to take one when he saw the new face in front of him.
he really had no clue why. was it because you were a new customer? the video store’s business was quite fragile, more people meant it was getting better, so naturally he was excited. that was it, right? right?
the girl walked past all the shelves, scanning their contents, but also seemingly looking for something. she had a bag of noodles from mr.chop’s, which smelt eerily like his own favourite flavour.
“can i help you?”
she jumped, with a bewildered look on her face. wise looked at her widened eyes, and the way she held her hands close to her chest in alarm, and found himself needing to take another breath.
“ah, y-yes! i’m looking for the managers of this store. these noodles are for them, mr.chop asked me to bring it to them.”
another breath.
really, what had gotten into him today? was it because she had come looking specifically for him? wait, no, no, what kind of reason was that?! he was the manager of the store, of course people would look for him!
“well, you’re in luck. you are looking at him right now.”
her eyes lit up. “really! i’m [name], it’s nice to meet you. i’ve moved into the flat just next to this store, so in a way, it’s like we’re neighbours! here, take the noodles. they’re fresh, better eat them when their hot.”
wise reached out to grab it from you. for a fraction of a second, the tip of your fingers touched- it could barely be computed as skin contact, and yet wise felt it through his whole system. the pits of his stomach did a flip, his chest nearly jumped! for the goddamn life of him, he couldn’t think of why?
you were having thoughts of your own. who was this guy? he looks so cool, so handsome? his voice is so clear, why’d he stop talking? would getting a membership to this place mean seeing him m-
“thank you for the delivery , miss [name]. my sister and i are really grateful.”
shit, you were still holding your hand out, even though it no longer had the bag! hastily, you put both you hands behind your back, nodding awkwardly.
your mind was blank for things to say, so you looked around. the shelves were stocked with all sorts of movies and records. you could spot your favourites, as well as titles you’d never heard of before.
“it’s a lovely store you’ve got,” you amused. “quite fitting for you, i should think.”
he raised an eyebrow. “oh? what do you mean by that?”
you felt your cheeks heat up. yeah, what did you mean by that?
“it’s just, this store seems cozy and safe, and you have the composure of someone you’d feel like talking to about anything, you know? i mean it in a good way, really! the store gives off the same energy as you do, and anyone could feel your presence here even if you were away.”
he was silent for a couple of seconds. had you said too much? before your thoughts could go overboard, he broke into a soft laugh. it was so crisp, you found yourself wondering if any of the tapes had a recording of it you could loop for hours.
“well, i’m glad i’ve left a good reputation on you, miss [name]. i hope to see you- ahem, your patronage often.”
“right! and i hope to see you around too, mister manager!”
you waved and turned to leave. barely a day in sixth street and your heart already hummed with a new crush. opening the door, the fresh breeze made a poor attempt to cool down the warmth you felt all over. then suddenly, you remembered-
“your name! mister manager, i don’t know your name!”
he had a soft smile, steadfast and enduring. “it’s wise, miss [name]. i was wondering if you wanted to know,” he shook his head, grinning. you mentally cursed at yourself. how could you forget something so basic!
he walked closer, with a movie tape in his hand. you caught a glimpse of it- Life Before the Hollow; presumably a history documentary. his eyes locked with yours, and he stuffed it in your hand. “consider this a welcome gift.”
he seemed to want to say more, but he didn’t.
you inspected the record in your hands, and the boy who gave it to you. you shouldn’t get your hopes up, and yet-
“i guess i have no choice but to come back again now, mister manager wise! you’d best be here when i do!”

A lot of the mechanisms of Soviet collapse really have no parallel in the US government or economy, just because the systems are very different. A United States analogous to the Soviet Union would be a one-party dictatorship like PRI Mexico that had been experiencing decades of stagnation since the most recent global economic shocks (perhaps like modern Britain, but even more extreme), which is more diverse on the national level but with clearer geographical groupings of ethnic minorities (and where administrative boundaries at follow the major ethnic divisions,) and where every NATO country only maintained its NATO membership because the the US was willing to roll tanks into their capital cities if they didn't maintain similar authoritarian one-party governance.
Heck, when I put it like that, it's a wonder the Soviet system managed to last as long as it did!

Tumblr media
Yoongi feels like shit.
He should have listened to Namjoon when he advised him to cut on his alcohol consumption. But lately he can’t write a single word down without having this bitter liquid buzz in his veins.
Last night he overdid it.
Six bottles of soju wasn’t a joke. When he finished one after another, he felt euphoric. Locked in his studio, with alcohol in his system, for once he imagined, things haven’t changed between you and him.
He browsed your photos and wrote down a couple of lyrics of a borderline love song that was due for another artist.
But it was a mistake indeed.
As soon as he opened his eyes, his head started pounding as if someone had been hitting it with a hammer.
And he realized… Last night was a lucid dream. You were still far away from his reach, no matter how close you physically appear to be.
His phone rings with Jimin’s call, who reminds him of his schedule. When the call ends, his screen lights up with a photo of you two.
Both of you are smiling ear to ear in the picture. He recalls the day. It was your birthday and he surprised you at your home. It was then you clicked the selfie.
And then someone knocks on his door.
“Hyung. Thank god! I thought you were dead!” Hoseok screams on his face as soon as he opens the door.
“Unfortunately, I’m alive” Yoongi groans, heading back to his chair.
“Wah! All these? Alone?” Hoseok points at the empty soju bottles.
“Hmm. And I feel like shit now.” he grabs the root of his hair, tugging those as harshly as possible in search of some pain-relief.
Yoongi misses it completely when Hoseok slides his phone out of his pocket and shoots a text to someone.

your explanation on walmarts system makes sense based on what my moms told me. it also just further convinces me that i got black listed when i quit SC years ago. i had to quit because of health issues and the manager tried to guilt me and essentially told me to get over it cause she was pregnant and she was able to work fine lol
This can happen actually yeah. You can be put on a Do Not Hire list where it automatically kills your application the moment you apply. I had this happen with a coworker who got fired because his hand got slammed in a baler door and after all the legal stuff he tried to reapply and it notified me but immediately sent a rejection letter. Despite trying multiple times it would not go through.
This can also happen to customers, though rarer because Sam's Club will actually let anything slide to keep customers happier (more on this later). Sometimes a membership can get flagged and it can notify any Club that they're on thin ice, suspicious, or to flat out not allow them to shop WHICH they can STILL charge you membership fees but iirc they got into legal trouble with that but ultimately doesn't matter.

Seven thousand more UAW members just walked off the job, expanding the strike to two more plants. Twenty-five thousand autoworkers are now on strike, and the walkout could continue to escalate if the Big Three don’t budge in negotiations.
[UAW president Shawn] Fain announced that Stellantis would be spared this time. The union had been expected to strike all three companies, but, said Region 1 director LaShawn English, three minutes before Fain was scheduled to go on Facebook Live, the UAW received frantic emails from company representatives.
[Note: Love that for the UAW. Also laughing so hard. Three minutes before the next round of strikes were annouced!!]
According to Fain, Stellantis made “significant progress” on cost-of-living allowances, the right not to cross a picket line, and the right to strike over product commitments and plant closures. “We are excited about this momentum at Stellantis and hope it continues,” Fain said...
“See You Next Week — Maybe?”
“These guys wanted to go out a long time ago,” said Cody Zaremba, a Local 602 member at the Lansing GM plant after the news broke that his plant would be joining the strike. “We’re ready. Everybody, truly, I believe, in the entire membership. They’re one with what’s going on.”
Five thousand workers at thirty-eight parts distribution centers across twenty-one states have been on strike since last Friday [September 22, 2023], along with thirteen thousand at three assembly plants in Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri who walked out on September 15. (See a map of all struck facilities here.) ...
The UAW is now calling on community supporters to organize small teams to canvass dealerships that sell and repair Big Three cars and trucks. On Tuesday, the union issued a canvassing tool kit with instructions, flyers, press releases, and talking points.
In negotiations with Ford and GM, autoworkers have clinched some important gains. Among them is an agreement by both companies to end at least one of the many tiers in current contracts, putting workers at certain parts plants back on the same wage scale as assembly workers. The top rate for Big Three assembly workers is currently around $32...
Ford was spared in last week’s escalation, because bargainers there had made further progress on gains for workers.
But today, the UAW once again called out workers at Ford and GM, putting some muscle behind its bold demands — a big wage boost, a shorter workweek, elimination of tiers, cost-of-living adjustments tied to inflation, protection from plant closures, conversion of temps to permanent employees, and the restoration of retiree health care and benefit-defined pensions to all workers.
-via Jacobin, September 29, 2023. Article continues below.
Keep Them Guessing
This year, for the first time in recent history, the union has played the three auto companies against each other with its strike strategy, departing from the union’s tradition of choosing one target company and patterning an agreement at the other two.
The stand-up strike strategy draws inspiration from an approach known as CHAOS (Create Havoc Around Our System), first deployed in 1993 by Alaska Airlines flight attendants, who announced they would be striking random flights. Although they struck only seven flights in a two-month period, Alaska had to send scabs on every plane, just in case. The unpredictability drew enormous media attention and drove management up the wall. Meanwhile the union was able to conserve its strength and minimize risk.
The companies miscalculated where the UAW was going to strike first, stockpiling engines and shipping them cross-country to the wrong facilities. Autoworkers relished the self-inflicted supply chain chaos on UAW Facebook groups and other social media platforms.
Nonstrikers’ morale on the factory floor has gotten a boost from rank and filers organizing to refuse voluntary overtime. With support both from Fain and the reform caucus Unite All Workers for Democracy (UAWD), workers have been encouraging each other to “Eight and Skate,” meaning to turn down extra work and decline to do management any favors.
Majority Public Support
A majority of Americans support the UAW strikers, and the Big Three have taken a PR hit since the strike began, according to a new survey conducted by the business intelligence firm Caliber.
“Eighty-seven percent of respondents told us they were aware of the strike,” Caliber CEO Shahar Silbershatz told the Intercept. “It’s clear the strike is not just causing commercial repercussions, but reputational repercussions as well.”
These reputational repercussions will only worsen...
"We Can Unmake It"
Fain didn't pull any punches in his speech... “That’s what’s different about working-class people. Whether we’re building cars or trucks or running parts distribution centers; whether we’re writing movies or performing TV shows... we do the heavy lifting. We do the real work. Not the CEOs, not the executives.
"And though we don’t know it, that’s what power is. We have the power. The world is of our making. The economy is of our making. This industry is of our making.
“And as we’ve shown, when we withhold our labor, we can unmake it.”

Become Your Best Version Before 2025 - Day 7
Building Better Habits
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, yesterday we talked about creating a personal mission statement. I hope it helped you get a little clearer on what you really want from 2025. And if you haven’t gotten to it yet, no worries! It’s there waiting for you whenever you’re ready. Now, today, let’s chat about something that can make all the difference in turning that mission statement into real-life action: building better habits.
You know, it’s easy to think that changing our lives means making huge, dramatic shifts, like completely overhauling your entire routine or signing up for a year-long gym membership. But I’ve got a little secret for you: It’s the small changes that add up to big results over time. Don’t believe me? Stick with me for a sec.
Imagine this: You’re standing in front of the kitchen counter with a cup of tea in hand, scrolling through your phone. You’ve had a crazy day at work and feel like you deserve some relaxation, right? But then you stop and think, how can I use this time to move toward my goals? What if instead of diving into social media, you set the phone down for 5 minutes and just breathe or read a few pages of a book? That’s it. It’s simple, but it’s powerful.
I’m not talking about doing a complete 180 on your life today, just about carving out a little space for something that moves you in the direction of your best self. Small habits like these are actually the key to creating lasting change. They sneak up on you, turning into something much bigger without you even realizing it.
Here’s an example: Let’s say you want to get healthier before the new year. Instead of starting with an intense workout routine that’s hard to stick with, how about you start by drinking a glass of water every morning when you wake up? Then, once that becomes a part of your routine, add something else, like taking a walk after dinner or swapping your afternoon soda for herbal tea. These small shifts will eventually snowball, and soon enough, your overall health will be better than ever.
I know it’s tempting to try and change everything at once, but here’s the truth: Trying to change too much too quickly will only set you up for burnout. Instead, focus on one habit. Be specific. Want to read more? Set the goal to read one page every night. One page, that’s it. Stay consistent. No matter what, show up for that one page every night. Eventually, you’ll find that reading becomes a natural part of your routine. And remember, celebrate your wins. Don’t wait until you’ve read a whole book. Celebrate that one page. Seriously, give yourself credit for showing up and sticking to it.
This approach is a lot like what we talked about with setting SMART goals, right? The "small" part is just like making sure your goals are specific and realistic, something that you can do today that’s still meaningful. We’re breaking things down into simple, manageable actions that add up to big results, one step at a time.
When I first started setting daily goals, I knew I needed to create habits that would help me manage my time better. Instead of diving straight into complicated time-management systems, I started with one simple habit: writing a to-do list the night before. No fancy planner. No specific apps. Just a piece of paper and a pen. It took maybe five minutes, but it helped me wake up with clarity the next day. Over time, this simple act turned into a consistent habit that made a huge difference in how productive I felt.
Okay, now it’s your turn. Think about one small habit you can work on today, something that’ll take just a few minutes but will make a real impact. It could be anything: drinking water, stretching, journaling, or even just sitting in silence for 3 minutes. Make it small. Make it simple. And most importantly, start.
Don’t worry about getting it perfect. It’s not about being flawless; it’s about showing up and making progress, even if it’s just a little bit at a time.
And, as always, I’d love to hear how it’s going. Drop a comment about the small habit you’d like to start implementing.

Wise x Fem!Reader
Genre: Fluff, meet-cute
Warnings: None
a/n: hello! it’s been a while. recently i’ve been playing a ton of zzz (interknot level 43 already o-o) and it’s such a silly game and i love wise <3.
also recently i’ve been coming to terms with the fact that it’s okay if my fics are shorter than i’m used to so hopefully my i can post more things in the near future
Tumblr media
“I don’t understand girls, let alone virtual ones.” Something wise told his sister half jokingly when they were first introduced to their new assistant Fairy. He was just so busy with proxy duties, running Random Play, and making sure that Belle didn’t run into trouble that he never really put much thought into meeting new people and going on dates.
Unfortunately for him, there was currently a really pretty girl in the store and he suddenly wished that the opposite was true.
He hopes he didn’t seem too creepy from where he stood behind the counter watching as you perused the collection of the store. 18 was in the staff room with Belle for some maintenance after it started counting change wrong, so Wise opted to just take over the store for the short amount of time it would take.
It was both a blessing and a curse that you just so happened to walk into the store at that moment.
From what he could tell you hadn’t been to the store before, you definitely weren’t a regular and it didn’t seem like you had any specific film to pick out in mind.
‘Just let me know if you need any help’ he wanted to say, but his mouth stayed shut. He couldn’t bring himself to speak, his mouth was dry, what if his voice cracked?
He forced his eyes away from you to look at other customers, the luckyboo to his left, the window outside. Anything but you, staring was rude after all.
“Excuse me.” Wise gripped the edge of the counter tightly, the voice was unfamiliar but deep down he knew. Such a nice voice couldn’t belong to anyone else that was in the store. He swallowed, turning his head to look at you.
You make eye contact and it takes everything in him to not let his legs give out.
He smiles, hoping it didn’t look too awkward, “How can i help you?” He asks calmly *calmly*.
You smile, and Wise nearly melts. Was it normal for a stranger to have such a big effect on him?
“I’m gonna be honest I’m a bit overwhelmed with the selection you have here,” you say sheepishly, “I was wondering if you had any recommendations?”
His hands start sweating as he mentally starts going through the store’s catalog, “Of course, you have any genres in mind?” he mentally pats himself on the back for not stuttering.
You take a moment to think, “Honestly I’m just looking for a film that’s calm, something I can watch to wind down. So anything like that? Even a good documentary would work.”
Wise nearly shouts in victory. A documentary? Perfect, absolutely perfect. “Well actually I enjoy watching documentaries, depending on what interests you I would recommend…”
Wise spends the better part of ten minutes making recommendations, and why he enjoys specific films. To his surprise you’re listening to every word and nodding along, even asking questions as he talks.
Eventually, you settle on a film to rent and Wise is pulling up the stores system to start the transaction.
“Can i have your number?” he says suddenly as you pull out your card to pay.
You look at him stunned, “Pardon me?”
Wise’s eyes widen as he realizes what he just said, “F-for our system!” he coughs, “Just to keep track of what you’ll be renting, a-and if you like you can sign up for a membership too.”
You blink, “Um, actually yeah I’d love to sign up.”
His gaze snaps to meet yours, usually it took a bit more convincing from customers. “That’s great!” he manages to say, was it getting warm in the store? “I’d just need you name and your number then.”
The rest of the transaction relatively goes smoothly. With him now knowing your name and having your number—for the membership of course—along with you promising to swing by the store again and talk about more movies with him.
The door to the shop finally swings shut behind you, and Wise drops his head, leaning on the counter with an embarrassed sigh.
It’s then that he hears a snicker to his right and he looks up. His sister stands there with a fixed and waving 18, and an amused smirk on her face.
“…How much did you-“
“Oh just the last bit,”
Wise groans and drops his head again.
