Okay backtrack. So basically both SHERLOC and WATSON are cameras attached to a robotic arm in search of life on Mars. SHERLOC detects organic molecules and minerals on Mars, and WATSON captures detailed images of the Martian surface to support SHERLOC's analysis.

(Apparently this program was launched a while ago on July 30, 2020. In 13 days our babies are gonna have their fourth Mars anniversary. I’m going to cry.)

In my mind:

SHERLOC: *bossily points at something*

Ok ok so I need some opinions on this: If Elliot were to get married, would he keep his last name or take his partner’s instead?

(more rambling about this under the cut!)

Like, I can see him keeping his last name as a sort of reminder to himself that he can overcome the trauma he experienced from his family and can rewrite how he himself views his family name. He’s in control now and will use that control to have a loving, and not extremely toxic, relationship with his partner and if he were to have kids, then he’d make sure that he’s a better father than his ever was. Elliot would try his hardest to change his view of his last name, so that instead of picturing his dysfunctional family when he hears it, he now only sees the new family he’s created that’s filled with love and warmth, his first truly loving home…

Butttt on the other hand, Elliot could take his partner’s last name. He probably didn’t even realize he wanted their name ‘til the two of them were already at the altar.

“I now pronounce you, Mx. and Mr. Alderson-“

“Um- Wait- Can I… Take their last name? I like it better than mine…”

Everyone at the wedding just goes quiet… And then the person marrying them shrugs and goes “okay sure man” and says the line again, now calling both of them by the partner’s last name. And when Elliot hears it for the first time, his first name and their last name together, he genuinely smiles. Not like a full on grin or anything, but a shy, yet very excited little smile. Kinda like this one:

From that point on, Elliot sort of sees himself as a new person. He’s doesn’t feel held back by his name anymore and finally allows himself to move past his trauma. As he sees it, he’s part of a whole new family now. No longer an Alderson, but someone better. The name change gives him the confidence to be a better version of himself going forward. His sudden shift in personality probably confuses the hell out of his lover tho. Like him asking if they wanna go get coffee, maybe from a Starbucks or something, and they just stare at him like he’s just said the most insane thing known to man. They eventually have to respond once they notice him start to fidget anxiously as if he had done something wrong.

Um… But yeah. In conclusion, Elliot either works hard to change his family name for himself or he changes his name altogether and lives his best life ✨ But please tell me which scenario fits him more!! Cuz I can’t really tell which one feels more Elliot. Maybe the choice really just depends on how he’s feeling on the wedding day lmao
