Occasionally I picture Nightwing calling Red Hood "little wing" in front of others and people looking between this huge, 6'0 feet tall man with growing white hair, and then Nightwing, a shorter man who has flawless skin, probably around his 20's, and a fit but not too buff build and they just- don't know what's happening. Is it some kind of inside joke they aren't aware of? Why is Nightwing acting as if he's years older than Red-fucking jacked-Hood?

Characters: Queen Amphitrite, Aricka and Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Grover Underwood

Aricka and Percy fight Echidna, meet their stepmom, and nearly drown in the Mississippi River.

All in a days work for a couple heroes.

But he’d already slipped over the edge of the hole, gripping onto the edge with what strength he had left- he’d already been stung by Chimera, Aricka had too. But she wasn’t going to leave her little brother defenseless.

Echidna used the distraction of Aricka screaming her brother’s name to push her off as well, Aricka managing to grab on to the ledge as well, one arm around Percy’s middle. “You- you just incurred the wrath of Poseidon,” Aricka growled. “You won’t ever have a - a moment’s peace after this.”

“Oh, brave naive little warrior...” Echidna said pityingly. “What a shame you have to die.”

She lifts her foot and Percy can see what was happening- but Aricka merely gripped him tighter.

“Be brave, my little hero,” Aricka whispered, “trust me: and trust our father.”

Echidna steps on Aricka’s hand and Aricka lets go with a screech of pain as they plummet toward the ground-

But at what seemed to be the last moment; the Mississippi River lunged up to seemingly swallow the two children of Poseidon and pull them into the water.

Aricka opens her eyes to see the murky polluted water of the Mississippi floating around her, noting she was still dry, not a drop of water around her. Percy reached for her and she pulled him closer to her, both trying to figure out how go forward from there. “Children…” a voice calls out, and they turn to see -

“My lady-!” Aricka stammered, bowing her head respectfully. The Nereid smiles graciously. “Queen Amphitrite, you are quite a distance from the ocean-?”

“You wonder what I am doing here?” Aricka nods and Percy stares at the woman- his apparent stepmother. “I bring word from your father, and a gift.” She approaches Aricka first, brushing her hair back and smiling. “You have his eyes.. and his strong jawline.” At Aricka’s face she chuckles warmly. “I’m sure you think I’m upset by your existence, but fret not. My husband is as controllable as the tides. I know I am his wife; my position and relationship in his life is not a question. As long as he returns to me, I will not begrudge him his passing fancies. He worried for you, child. Seeing you be poisoned- both of you- and being unable to do anything about it- he felt absolutely helpless.” Aricka nods, sighs.

“I tried to save Percy but it was too quick-,”

“He knows, dear one. Your father knows how much Percy means to you.” She holds out five pearls to Aricka. “For you. You’ll know the right time.” Aricka nods and slides them into her backpack, which had fallen into the river with them.

To Percy, she says, “brave hero… your mother’s fate isn’t as hopeless as you fear. Go to Santa Monica. Do not trust the gifts-,” a rumbling sound and she looks up. “I must go. The water is too foul and Zeus is beginning to suspect- you must get to Santa Monica-! Go.” She strokes their cheeks, gives them both a final fond gaze. “Be brave, victors of Poseidon.” And then, as she vanished, a jet stream of water pushed the siblings toward the surface-

And the chaos that awaited them.
