today in therapy we started unpacking my body dysmorphia and my relationship with weight and food, how my mom's trauma with eating disorders trickled down to her giving me warped body image ideas and her subsequent partners reinforcing them by being really shitty about my appearance

we also talked about orienting myself when i'm triggered, and how to build a "safe space" in my mind when i can feel an anxiety attack coming on

it was. i'm not gonna lie, it was rough. but my therapist sent me a nice text afterwards to check on me and that made me feel good

then i got home and made some bomb ass pasta instead of splurging on takeout like i usually do after therapy, and i'm gonna work on how food became a coping mechanism for me

it feels really good to address this stuff, after years of assuming it was normal or that it wasn't that big of a deal

If you've ever told a person who's had to be bedbound for a period of time that you wish you could "just stay in bed", DO IT.

Stay in bed. For days. But don't get up if someone needs you to, or you get bored, or you get antsy. Don't do anything other than rest. Just lie in your bed, whether you need to get stuff done around the house or socialize or anything else "productive". You'll have to cancel on people, you'll disappoint them, they won't understand.

And if you're thinking, "well, i CAN'T just be in bed. There's stuff that has to be done - I have plans", maybe ask yourself why you assumed a disabled person doesn't have plans or things to do or desires.
