#Natasha is the biggest damn hero okay

Can the Russo brothers have Steve Rogers thank Natasha for what she did for him in Civil War? I know Infinity War was crowded enough but please have someone onscreen acknowledge how damn much Natasha does. She has burned her bridges twice. She blew all her covers in TWS, and in Civil War she goes against her own team’s agenda and all we see from Tony after is his hurt feelings and aggression. No attempt at understanding her motivations and then she disappears from the screen without another mention. UGH. Steve gives her a nod and then, magically, they are leading the Secret Avengers together in IW with NO ON SCREEN RESOLUTION.
Natasha seems to suffer so much, so quietly, without anyone in the narrative acknowledging it without some snooty comment about her being a spy first and everything else second so of course she suffers. (And that whole “monster” conversation that was incredibly poorly handled in AoU so I like to scrub it from my memory as much as possible. omgadd.) However, Natasha never puts her own self interest first, despite what people might want to believe and what she might want them to believe. (I would argue even her most OOC and inconsiderate moment in AoU, forcing out the Hulk which was super gross and against literally everything else she has ever done on-screen, is again for other people’s interest -being the fate of the world at large- and counter-productive to her own “romantic” pursuits)
It is time this unflinching character trait of hers is acknowledged. LOUDLY. Steve sees it very clearly in both the Winter Soldier and in Age of Ultron, to the point where the camera lingers - as his gaze - on her as she remarks casually about sacrifice. He sees it, silently and without support for her. And again here she is doing something to her own detriment because she ultimately realizes it is the call she needs to make. But when are we, as the audience, going to see her team mates respect her as more than the crafty, shifty ‘spy?’
I just. I need her to be loudly validated and not just taken advantage of. She opens up to her team mates several times, repeatedly makes the good and right sacrificial calls, only then to be discarded as the narrative moves on with the other characters. WHy? She is a damn hero, ok. And she needs that treatment in-verse and out-of-verse already.
That better be Clint and Steve telling Natasha she is a gaddamn blessing in the third Endgame trailer.

You
Prompt: Steve a bitch, but you love the team.
Warnings: swearing, violence, lil angst (not really)
Tumblr media
   You had to admit that you were pretty surprised when Clint showed up at your door. Though the circumstances weren't well, you still welcomed the visit. The agent was quick to explain everything that was happening to you. He explained Ultron to you. He told you how Nat had been taken. Then he mentioned that no one else knew he was asking for your help. That didn't surprise, but you hesitated before you agreed to help. You missed most of the team dearly, but the reason you had retired in the first place was that you were unable to work with the man that ripped your heart into pieces.
You knew that one day they would come knocking, that one day you would be pulled back into the hero life. You had never been a huge fan of the spotlight, but you did it for the people you were saving. You stuck with the team for so long for the people you were able to help and for Steve.
 Steve and you had been dating for about 3 years before everything had gone to shit. Before that awful night, everyone had been convinced that the two of you were bound to for marriage. You were the two heroes that would get a heavily ever after. Within a night, Steve was able to tear 3 years' worth of a relationship to shreds and just walk away from the mess he had left you in.
 At first, you had been hesitant about coming back, even if it was just for one mission. As uncertain as you may have come off as, in the back of your mind, you knew you were going to end up on the battlefield. You had always known when and if they ever came knocking on your door, you would be by their sides in a fight once again. Although Steve had hurt you in a way that may never be repairable, that was no reason for you not to help your family. You owed the team your life, whether you would admit it or not, they were the only family you had ever known. You'd be damned if they went into a fight as big as this one, and you weren't right by their sides.
 From the moment you stepped into the same room as Steve, the tension was indescribable. His blue orbs were the first pair your eyes had met, but you refused to hold the contact. You were there for the team and the people that needed your help, that was it. Steve was only a small inconvenience to you.
 "She's returned!" Tony yelled dramatically as he engulfed you into a bear hug. You let out a small laugh as you hugged him back, then you moved to give Bruce a small hug. You hadn't realized how much you had truly missed them until they were pulling you into a hug. Steve gave you nothing more than a slight nod, which you ignored.
 You weren't trying to be petty, but you knew if you looked at him for too long the little bits that you were able to put back together after what he had done to you would surely crumble. You kept your distance from him for the remainder of the mission, trying your best to keep your head on the task at hand.
 It took no time for you and the team to reach the final battle. In less than seconds, everyone was off fighting their own crowd of bots. The team was split up pretty quickly. However, you found yourself constantly drifting towards Steve. You couldn't seem to help yourself as you continuously checked to make sure he was okay. You found yourself constantly watching his back, making sure nothing would come up behind him.
You had about 5 of Ultron’s bots charging you all at once. You did your best to take them all on but found it difficult. Like Natasha, you hadn't been gifted with super strength or a metal suit, or happen to be a god. You were only an assassin, an assassin trained to take out humans, not metal robots. You were getting beat pretty bad, but you kept fighting. With all the strength you had left in your body, you barely held off the multiple bots that continued to rush you.
 "I can handle my fucking self." You growled as Steve came to help you beat back the growing crowd. He sent his shield flying through multiple of the metal beings, ripping them in two. He ignored your comment as the two you began to contain and destroy the multiple bots around you. You kept several off of Steve's flank, but every time he did the same for you, you snapped at him.
 You grew angry every time he helped you fight. You hated the fact that he was helping you at all. You forced yourself to move away from him as you fought, but he now seemed to be the one following you. Whenever he took out a robot that was charging you, you felt as though you owed him something. You didn't want his help, you didn't need his help in the past, and you didn't want it now.
 "Stop fucking doing that," You grunted as you pulled his shield from the torso of a fallen bot and threw back in his direction. You didn't mean to throw it as hard as you did, and you definitely didn't realize accurate your aim was. You missed Steve's head by nearly a hair, him having to fall to the ground to avoid being hit by his own weapon.
 "What the fuck are you doing. You're gonna get yourself killed," Steve screamed in anger as he tackled you behind a car. There was a hoard of bots coming your way, and with his shield on the other side of the street, the two of you had no protection other than your fists. You shoved the super-soldier's back up against the badly damaged car.
 "LANGUAGE," came Tony's voice over the coms.
 "Stay out of my way." You snarled, sprinting towards the oncoming bots. Just as you about to tackle them, you dropped to the ground sliding through the rubble on the street. You slid right to Steve's shield and threw it over yourself as the bot's shots rained down toward you. The shots stopped quickly as Steve took the bots out, grabbing you by the arm and dragging you through a doorway and behind the cover of a thick stone wall.
 "What do you want then!" Steve barked as you.
 "ALL I WANTED WAS YOU," You bellowed, your nose dripping with blood and hair matted with dust from the damage outside. Steve stared at you, slightly shocked and almost confused. "All I ever wanted was you, and when I needed you, you weren't there. Now that I don't want you, you can't seem to stay the fuck away from me. All you want to do is be there!"
 "Its' been three years."
 "My god," You scoffed in disbelief, "Yaknow, you're right. It has been three years. Three fucking years and it still hurts to see you. The pain is still here." You got in Steve's face as your anger began to boil over.
 "That's not what I meant-," He tried to fix his mistake. Before he could finish, your right fist met his jaw. The punch wasn't as hard as you were capable of, a part of you not wanting to hurt him. However, the hit was hard enough to make him stumble a little and cause some pain.
"Go fuck yourself. I hope she was worth everything you fucking lost." You growled at him just before you spun on your heels. You peaked your head through the doorway, checking the surroundings. When you saw your clearing, without looking back, you threw yourself back into the battle, leaving all thoughts of Steve behind you.
 Steve stood rubbing his jaw, trying to get the pain to pass quicker. He watched as you turned your back on him and ran back to the fight. Regret and remorse filled his entire body as your last words replayed in his head over and over again. Steve loved you. He had always loved you. The night he lost was the biggest mistake of his life. All those nights he had dreamed of ever getting you back were swept away. He finally knew how badly he had hurt you, how much he had wronged you. And there was nothing he could do to fix it.

The swift click of the door unlocking was the only signal that Ethan had come home. The FoH rally had gone on longer than he anticipated, but he was finally ready to turn in for the night. There, on the couch, were his boys and wife fast asleep. The tv was still flashing with whatever cartoon the youngest had been interested in, but there was no sound. He smiled as he watched the three. His perfect family. An obedient wife, two normal boys – he had everything he could ever ask for. Except… He had to live with the constant reminder that his failed attempt was still out there somewhere.
Ethan walked throughout the rest of their home, easily finding his way to his office even with no light. He shrugged off his suit jacket, hanging it over the back of his chair.
It was then the light clicked on.
He straightened, keeping calm as he rolled up his sleeves. “Normally people leave messages if they’re trying to get ahold of me.” Walking around his desk, he finally took the moment to take in who his new guest was. He raised an eyebrow. “You’re the man who tried tearing apart the Avengers.” He smirked, a part of him wanting to ask how failure tasted.
“Helmut Zemo.” He leaned back, the file at his fingertips gently placed under the lamp. “I’m glad my reputation proceeds me in this case.”
“What can I do for you?”
“You’re Ethan Creed, correct?”
“If I said no, don’t you think this would be an awkward break in?” It seemed that was enough of a confirmation for Zemo. He opened the file, picking up a photo and turning it to Ethan. His whole body tensed when he recognized Y/N in the photos. Next to her was… “That’s her daughter?”
“According to genetics, she’s both of yours.”
Ethan shoved his hands in his pockets, his nails digging into his palms. Zemo could tell he’d pushed the right buttons. “And what’s your point?”
Zemo rose to his feet, picking up the file. He flicked photo after photo onto the desk, showing Ethan that Y/N and Andie had gained some rather impressive friends.
Sam…Steve…Natasha…Clint…Peter…Tony…Bruce… One by one, their faces flashed for the briefest moments, replaced by each other. Sometimes there were pairs, sometimes not. But the proof in this was unwavering. The last one that appeared didn’t have Andie anywhere in sight. It was Y/N and Bucky. At the store. Simple and sweet – they looked happy.
It made Ethan sick.
His fingers brushed that particular photo, eyes never wavering from Y/N’s beaming face. Looking up at Zemo, he asked, “Why are you here?”
“I am a firm believer that mistakes are opportunities to learn more. Though Stark forgave Barnes, Barnes never forgave himself. He has been clinging to his guilt like a toddler with their favorite toy.” He pointed to Andie and Y/N. “Until them. They have become his hope. His lifeline. And not only that, but in their time with the Avengers, they have become their favorite citizens.” Ethan was silent, listening and hanging on Zemo’s every word. “I wish to remind these “heroes” that nothing they do, no one they help, will ever outweigh their failures. But to accomplish this, I’m going to need your help.”
Ethan scoffed, shaking his head. “I have no interest in interfering with the Avengers.”
“Not even if it means ridding yourself of what you deem your biggest failure?”
In all reality, to turn a man against his daughter shouldn’t have been so easy. It almost made Zemo pity Andie. He would give anything to have his son and wife back and yet Ethan is all too ready to write off the ones he once had.
But when it was a means to an end, he could only allow himself to feel certain emotions. Glancing at Andie, he had come to the conclusion that pity was not one of them.
“It hurts,” she murmured, eyes fixated on the scenery passing by. Her foot was still bleeding, leaving him to assume that was what she was referring to. It was the only part of her that was injured.
“We’ll be there soon.”
Those were the only two words she said for the rest of the ride.
-.-.-.-
Y/N glanced out the window as the car came to a halt. Immediately her hand floor to the door handle, trying to open it. Quentin sighed, shaking his head. “Child lock, Y/N. Just…” He looked back at her. “Try to be calm, okay?”
Barely able to keep her voice from cracking, she asked, “Why are you doing this? I don’t know you.”
“No, you don’t. And I’m really sorry it has to be you. But unfortunately,” He shrugged. “Stark and his friends have taken a liking to you.”
He stepped out of the car, closing the door behind him as Y/N’s heart started hammering in her chest. Her whole body trembled, filled to the brim with fear. She was here because of the Avengers? The Avengers were supposed to help people. Protect them. And yet –
Y/N was jolted out of her thoughts, jumping in her seat when the door opened. Tears were in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall as Quentin offered a hand.
“I really don’t want to throw you around like a rag doll, so I would greatly appreciate you behaving.”
Y/N grit her teeth, a tremor running through her body as the chill of the night air brushed her bare arms. She took his offered hand, stepping out of the vehicle and looking around. They were outside an abandoned building and she could faintly make out the faded “Stark” painted on the side.
“One of Tony’s old buildings?” She turned to Quentin, but her eyes took in everywhere around them. It was a field with a tree line not too far off. Just on the other side, she could make out the dim lights that came from the highway. They were a long way from the city.
“Howard’s actually.” Quentin’s hand found her bicep, pulling her along. She stumbled, now loathing the ridiculous heels she was wearing. There was once a time when she could have run in heels, but she was far too out of practice to attempt it now. So she let him lead the way.
“Where’s my daughter?” She studied him, wondering if Quentin felt any guilt for this before realizing he probably didn’t. He probably didn’t give two fucking shits. Why would he? The whole point of this night was unfolding right before her eyes.
But as angry as she was, she found herself a little satisfied with how genuinely surprised he was. “How did you – “
“I saw your text.” She ignored the goosebumps on her arms, the tremble to her voice, and the fact that she probably had tear streaks on her cheeks. All she cared about was Andie. “You could at least tell me.”
Quentin shrugged, opening the door and pulling her inside. The door clanged shut, making her jump again. It seemed every moment she looked a little more scared made Quentin feel more satisfied. “She’s on her way.”
He released her, shoving her ahead. She stumbled, barely catching herself as her shoulder slammed into a column. Taking a sharp breath, she tried to ignore the dull ache and the fact that she would certainly have a bruise. Instead, she focused on the sound of the door opening again. She looked over her shoulder.
Andie?
No.
Y/N stood straight when she saw Ethan stepping inside. He was alone, tossing something and catching it repeatedly. It was too small for her to make out whatever it could possibly be, but the satisfied look on his face made her feel impossibly colder. Her shoulders slumped, dread wrapping itself around her and squeezing just a little too tight. “Ethan,” she barely withheld the fresh tears wanting to fall. “Why are you doing this?”
He walked closer, a part of him hoping Y/N’s fear would make her stumble back, show she was still weaker than him. But she didn’t. She held her ground, tilting her chin up and holding his gaze. Even with her fear, she found a way to be so damn strong.
It infuriated him.
Catching the object, Antman’s suit, once again, he tossed it to Quentin. “You’ll be needing that,” he told him before focusing on Y/N. The look on his face was etched in pity and disgust, a look she had seen time and time again. At least that was familiar enough. Sighing softly, Ethan told her, “Because I have the perfect life with Lori and the boys. And I have no interest in being part of a world where you and your mutant were ever considered my family.”
He turned on his heel, knowing he needed to call Zemo, check on his status. What he hadn’t expected was for Y/N to tell him, “That won’t ever change.” He faltered, pausing in his steps, but his back remained to her. She scoffed, shaking her head. “You can do whatever you want, but congratulations, Ethan. We were your family. And it sickens me as much as it sickens you.”
She hadn’t seen him move, instead enjoying the one moment where she had finally been as blatantly honest with him as he was constantly being with her. When she turned to face him once again – she didn’t see him strike her.
But she felt it.
She heard Quentin ask if it was necessary.
She felt her feet stumble back, teetering on heels.
She heard Ethan’s voice, but his words were a muffled blur.
She felt her feet give out from under her.
And she saw everything go black.
-.-.-.-
Bucky found himself more and more confused as they drove outside the city. He had no idea where they were going. At first it was almost unnerving how they were heading towards the compound. The balls Zemo had to have to pull such a stunt was insane. However, that frustration dwindled when they took an exit and headed farther away from both the city and the compound.
He didn’t want to risk arriving wherever before he had a chance to get Andie away from Zemo. Normally he wouldn’t think twice about being able to take a man like him down – but Zemo had been patient. He’d taken his time and snuck out when it suited him most.
Bucky refused to see him slip out with Andie and Y/N.
“Bucky?”
The sound of Sam’s voice on the comm in the helmet irritated him to no end. “What?” he asked, knowing they could hear him despite the roar of his motorcycle.
“We’re behind you. I’m asking you to not engage alone.”
It was Steve’s voice then. “I already told you, Steve – “
“I know. But this isn’t just about you. Beck, Creed, Zemo – they’re targeting Y/N and Andie to get to us. The team.”
“And that’s our fault.”
Silence.
The car ahead took an exit on a long dirt road. Bucky pulled off on the side of the highway, watching through the trees. Whatever road this was – he guessed it was leading to the back entrance.
“Bucky…”
“It’s our fault they’re in this, Steve.”
“I understand that.”
Bucky whipped his head around, surprised when he saw Steve approaching. He’d been running. “How – “
“Sam’s going ahead. We parked about a mile back so Zemo wouldn’t notice.”
Bucky didn’t say anything. Instead he took off his helmet and got off the bike, looking back through the trees. He didn’t pay attention to Steve coming up behind her, instead letting his oldest friend rest a hand on his shoulder. “We don’t trade lives, Buck. We’re going to get them back. I promise.”
-.-.-.-
“This is a really bad idea,” Sam muttered from his spot at the top of the warehouse. He was careful, keeping his footsteps light and body low.
“No one asked for your opinion, Birdbrain.”
“Still giving it.” He watched as Zemo got out of the car and pulled Andie out. She limped, favoring her left leg and Sam immediately saw the blood hit the ground. “Steve, Andie’s foot looks real bad from up here.”
“Eyes on Y/N yet?”
“No, she’s – Wait.” He saw Quentin and Ethan coming out of the building, approaching the two. Andie immediately hid behind Zemo and the sight made Sam squeeze his eyes shut. The fact that she felt safest with him in that moment…There was so much wrong with that. He took a couple steps back, telling Steve and Bucky over the comms, “I can make a move.”
Sam peeked through the filthy excuse of a ceiling window. He saw Y/N lying on the ground and immediately guilt hit him hard. He remembered when he had offered for them to take care of Andie. They promised to protect her. Protect them both. They had taken Y/N’s trust and, in that moment, he knew they failed her and Andie.
And now seeing Bucky struggle made so much more sense.
“We have eyes on Andie. Go. Now.”
Sam didn’t need to be told twice. He dropped inside the window, the glass shattering and falling around.
It was the distraction they needed.
Zemo and Ethan looked up to the roof. Ethan immediately ran inside as Zemo went to grab Andie. He turned as she stumbled back. “Andie, come here.”
Andie shook her head and took off running towards the field. Zemo tensed, a crack appearing in his overly calm façade. He pulled out his gun, refusing to kill her yet. Just maim for the time being. And the way her skin shimmered? She was impossible to lose.
Andie cried out as she fell forward, her foot unable to carry her anymore. Tears streamed down her face, sobs raking through her chest. She remembered the gun. Remembered how calm Zemo had been on the roof. The rainbow-like sparkle that continued shimmering over her skin was like a silent alarm for for Zemo to constantly have eyes on her. In that moment, she hated being a mutant more than ever.
She looked back, eyes meeting his. Still so calm.
And he aimed for her leg.
Andie jerked into a small ball, waiting for the sound of the gun.
But it never came.
Instead, she heard something else. The sound of vibranium flying. She looked up, catching glimpses of the parts of her body that had turned invisible, but not bothering to pay attention. Her gaze was fixated on Zemo stumbling back as Steve caught his shield.
She whispered the smallest, “Steve?”
“Andie!”
The sound of her name and heavy footsteps earned more panic, forcing Andie to curl into a ball again. She tensed when she felt warmth near her, still not risking looking up. When she felt a hand on her back, she jerked, small fists flying in an attempt to strike at anything. “Let me go! Leave me alone! I just want my mom!” Tears streamed down her face, her terrified mind not even registering the metal hand at her back.
It wasn’t until she was pulled into a tight hug, her head cradled between a firm chest and warm hand, that Andie tried fighting back. Her fists kept beating, hitting his chest and shoulders– still desperately trying to get away from another lie. “I want my mom! Where – Where’s my mom?”
Tears stained the shirt she had been wearing as he caught her hands in his, pulling her close. He gently released her, stroking her hair gently. “Shh, shh, Andie, it’s okay,” he whispered. Her much smaller hands clung to his shirt as he kept his hands wrapped firmly around her. “It’s okay.” He lightly stroked her back, not even realizing he was crying as well.
“Bucky?” Her small, stuttering voice broke through his chest. Leaning back, he brushed her hair out of her face, searching for any injuries that they had not been aware of before. “B – Bucky?”
He nodded, offering a tear-filled smile. “Hey.”
She hit his chest, brow furrowing as tears streamed harder down her face. “You left! You just left! You – “ A sob broke through her chest and he hugged her tightly. “You left us…”
Bucky cradled her in his arms. “I’m sorry. I won’t leave you again.” The sound of a gunshot made him look up, tightening his grip on her and refusing to let her look up. He saw Steve stumble – shot in his thigh before Zemo was running inside.
“Bucky!” Sam’s voice. “Steve! Somebody, I need help in here!”
Bucky clenched his jaw, glancing at Steve. “Steve’s down. Give me a sec.” Looking down at Andie, he brushed her hair back and kissed her forehead. “Andie, I promise I will be right back. I need to go help Sam and your mom, okay?” Andie clung to him, more tears threatening to fall. Her grip only loosened whenever she realized it was to help her mom. She nodded, dropping her hands as Bucky told her, “Stay right here.”
He rose to his feet and took off running to the warehouse, unaware of Andie’s shimmering skin. Completely unaware of her turning invisible.
And without a clue that she was right behind him.
-
The sound of glass crunching, people shouting, and a very familiar set of wings cut through the ringing in her ears. Y/N woke to a pounding in her head, her vision slowly coming back to her. She saw the shattered glass around her. There were the smallest cuts on her arms, and she was sure there were some on her face. Shifting slightly, the crunching against her hands earned a small wince.
Everything felt slow.
“Get up.”
Y/N stumbled as a hand grabbed her bicep, forcing her to her feet. She looked up. Her eyes were barely able to focus on Sam fighting…nothing? Her free hand brushed the focus of her pain on her head. Wet. Pulling her fingers away, she saw blood. Great.
“Time to go, sweetheart.” Ethan. She felt another hand grab around her arm. It was firm, but not digging in like Ethan’s.
Y/n tried tugging herself free as she was pulled to the opposite side of the warehouse. “S-Sam,” she murmured, head still pounding, body still woozy. “He’s…”
“God, you’re such a pain in the ass.” Ethan jerked her close, earning a sharp cry from Y/N as Zemo opened the door to their escape.
Sam grunted as he collided into the wall of the warehouse. He really hated that fucking Antman costume. “Quentin, get out of my suit!” His wings took off again, flying him through the glass ceiling as the door was kicked open.
Bucky raised his gun, aiming for Ethan.
“Looks like you finally decided to make your appearance, Soldat,” Zemo sneered, calm voice sending a chill down Y/N’s spine.
“Let her go. Now.”
Zemo smirked, watching Bucky like a hawk. He raised his own weapon, pressing the barrel to Y/N’s temple. She whimpered, squeezing her eyes shut. Zemo’s eyes flashed when he saw Bucky waver. “Ethan, go. Find the girl.”
Ethan glanced at Zemo, not needing to be told twice. He slipped out the back door as Zemo dug the gun into the back of her head. “Tell me, Soldat…” Zemo’s curiosity laced his voice as he stepped closer. “How far do you think I’m willing to go to remind you and your fellow heroes that you are the very thing you loathe?”
“Zemo,” Bucky said, trying to keep his voice calm. His eyes flickered to Y/N who was now watching him. “Ethan’s not going to find Andie. She’s safe now.”
“Then your team will have to live with the dread that someday she won’t be. You will not always be able to protect her.” Pushing Y/N forward, she stumbled and fell to her knees, closer to him than Bucky.
She whispered, “Bucky?”
Bucky shifted his gaze from Zemo to Y/N, silently begging her to believe in him. “It’s going to be okay, Y/N. I promise.”
Bucky pulled the trigger just as Zemo did, the sound of two gunshots tearing through the air.
One for Zemo.
One for Y/N.
Bucky’s connected with Zemo’s shoulder, tearing straight through.
But Zemo’s connected with --

The cool winter air brushed up against Y/N’s cheek as she rushed towards the direction of the Avengers tower, wrapping her arms around herself to get as warm as possible in the thin jacket she threw on before rushing out in the morning.
Stark’s coffee machine was broken, and the team had been complaining about sleepiness and being grumpy to the point where Y/N had volunteered herself  to go out and get coffee for everyone in the middle of one of New York City’s biggest blizzards of the year.
“Thanks, guys,” she mumbled to herself, lips quivering slightly as she mentally made a note to not be on coffee duty next time.
She held the bag in one hand, careful to not spill the contents inside, and put the other hand in her pocket, shielding it from the numbness that the temperature was causing.
The entrance to the Avengers tower came into view, and if possible, Y/N walked even faster, ignoring the weird glares people were giving her because of her intense pace. Making sure to keep the bag steady, she opened the front door and sighed in relief when the warm air came in contact with her face. She made her way towards the elevators, no longer rushing as the freezing feeling was already leaving her fingertips.
As she made her way up, she unzipped her coat, letting the warm air replace the cold air that was trapped under her coat.
“The coffee has arrived!” Clint’s voice notified Y/N she was on her floor, his body rushing towards her to grab the bag from her hand, “Why are your hands so cold?”
“Gee, I don’t fucking know, Clint,” Y/N sassed, walking into the room and pointing out of the large windows, patience wearing thin, “Have you looked outside?”
“Right, of course,” Clint chuckled awkwardly, helping to pass the coffee around to the sleepy Avengers, who all grumbled and mumbled their gratitude for the caffeinated drink.
“You’re welcome, guys!” Y/N threw her body down on the couch, not appreciating the lack of thanks from the team, “I nearly freeze my ass off out there for your grumpy asses and no one even says anything.”
The team quickly started thanking her, Steve even being kind enough to give Y/N his coffee in hopes to help warm her up. She was about to respond, but her eyes caught sight of Bucky walking into the room, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he made his way over to the couch. Y/N grinned, scooting over so he could plop his body down next to hers.
“Mornin, Buck,” Steve nodded to his friend who just waved silently, dropping his body down on the couch next to his girlfriend. Y/N grinned at Bucky, scooting closer to him as his arm draped around her.
“You’re freezing, Y/N,” Bucky looked over at her, feeling the coldness of her skin.
“Yeah,” Y/N grumbled, “Everyone wanted coffee and I was sick of their complaining so I went and got some.”
Bucky rolled his eyes, turning to the team, “Seriously? You guys made her go out alone and get coffee? In this weather?” He got up off the couch and walked over to the cupboard in the corner of the room and grabbed a knitted blanket, bringing it back to Y/N’s still slightly shivering body.
He wrapped it around her, “Here, let me warm you up.”
She cuddled into the blanket, letting Bucky’s warm arms wrap around her as she leaned into his touch, almost forgetting how cold she was. She was glad to have him looking out for her all the time, and she wouldn’t change it for the world.
“Stark, you better fix that damn coffee machine.”
-----------------
Saturday mornings in the compound often spent with breakfast, training, and then a briefing on what was going on in the world - credit goes to director Fury for that. This day was no different.
Tony made the team breakfast (cough cough, thanks to Friday who really did all the work) and the satisfied heroes made their way down to the training gym, where Thor was already launching himself at punching bags.
“Ah, seems that I am the most prepared - I was here the earliest,” Thor grinned as the team walked in, all still slightly sleepy, but ready for a good training session. They ignored him and split up into their usual teams, Y/N running off with Natasha to find a good corner and Bucky finding himself facing Steve, both ready to fight.
“You gonna go easy on me?” Natasha smirked, teasing Y/N who was tying her hair out of her face.
“Nuh uh, Romanoff,” she grinned, “Get prepared to have your ass handed to you. For once.”
The red-haired assassin grinned, arming herself by holding her fists in front of her face as Y/N charged towards her, determination written on her features. Natasha ducked the first punch, taking that as an opportunity to deliver a harsh blow to Y/N’s stomach, making her groan and lean over.
“Shit, Nat, I just ate,” Y/N lifted herself back up, glaring at Natasha who let out a small chuckle. Y/N used Nat’s distraction as her advantage, throwing herself onto her. She wrapped her legs around Natasha’s torso, causing her to slightly lose her balance as Y/N launched herself backwards, Natasha falling face first onto the floor.
“Ha, that’s what you get for - oomph,” Y/N began to celebrate her victory but was quickly cut off by Nat sticking out her leg, causing Y/N’s body to land on the mat with a thump.
Immediately, pain coursed through her body, “Shit. That hurt, Nat.” Y/N placed her hand over her ribs, leaning her head back as the throbbing pain started spreading throughout her chest. From the other side of the room, Bucky rushed over, panicking slightly at the pained expression on his girlfriend’s face.
“Are you okay, Y/N?” He asked, leaning down next to her as Nat stood up, apologizing quietly.
“Peachy,” Y/N groaned, lifting her shirt to reveal a dark bruise already forming on her ribs, “Nat! You fucking broke my rib.”
By now, the entire team had noticed the commotion, and Tony was already calling the medical lab to announce Y/N was going to be on her way. Y/N protested, saying she didn’t need medical attention, but the entire team argued with her until they were ready to knock her out and bring her there themselves.
“Here, let’s help her up,” Steve leaned down and wrapped an arm around her torso, causing her to groan. Bucky did the same, and the two of them managed to lift her up without causing her too much pain.
The walk to the medical lab was long and every time she moved her legs, Y/N would feel another jolt of pain make its way throughout her entire body. As she laid down on the bed in front of the medical staff, fear kicked in and she was ready to bolt out of the room, not liking the sight of the needles and pointy equipment in the room. She had always had a fear of doctors, hating everything to do with them, but this time she begrudgingly let herself relax into the chair. Running away would do her no good, she couldn’t get far with a broken rib anyways.
Bucky could sense her fear, and he made his way over and sat down next to her, linking his fingers into hers, “Hey, it’s okay.”
Y/N let out a sarcastic laugh, “Easy for you to say. You don’t have to have anyone prodding around in your body to fix your stupid bones.”
Bucky chuckled, “No one is poking or prodding around anywhere. Stark’s tech can fix you in an instant. They’re probably only going to give you one shot, that’s it. To help ease the pain. You’ll be alright.”
Y/N threw her head back on the pillow as the doctor approached her, holding up a needle. She gave the doctor a nod and squeezed Bucky’s hand, shutting her eyes to prevent seeing the needle going through her skin.
“You’re okay,” he soothed her as the doctor gave her a shot of morphine to take away the burning sensation in her chest, “I won’t leave your side.” Y/N relaxed instantly, letting the sensation of Bucky’s fingers locked with hers be the main thing she was going to focus on.
Within an hour, her rib was much better and Y/N felt like a drama queen. One thing was for sure though, Natasha was going to have to watch her ass next training session.
-----------------
The morning sunlight shone down on Bucky’s sleeping face, his stubble causing tiny little shadows to appear on his cheeks and chin. Y/N grinned up at him, taking in the sight of her gorgeous boyfriend in the golden light.
For two years, Bucky had been her lifeline, her ultimate source of comfort and happiness, and by God, she was the luckiest woman in the world to get to call him hers.
She couldn’t resist his good looks any longer, leaning up slightly to place a delicate kiss on his soft lips, pulling away immediately. She knew she had woken him up, and even if she wouldn’t admit it, it was partially her intention. Bucky’s eyes fluttered open slowly, looking over at Y/N with his piercing blue orbs. She grinned at him, leaning up and placing another small kiss on his lips, pulling away before he could get the chance to reciprocate.
“Mornin’ handsome,” she smiled at him, letting him wrap his arms around her and pull her into his chest.
“Mm, why’d you wake me?” He groaned into her hair, making her giggle.
“I did no such thing,” she pretended to defend herself, pulling away from him and looking back up into his eyes. He leaned his head down, placing his lips about half a centimetre away from hers before she placed her hand between them, stopping his movements.
“Brush your teeth first,” she teased, throwing herself away from his body and turning away from him on the bed. Bucky chuckled, wrapping his arms around her once again and pulling her flush to his chest, placing his lips on hers as she melted into the kiss.
After a good moment of passionate kissing, she pulled away from him and moved a strand of his hair out of the way, staring lovingly into his eyes.
“You’re beautiful,” he muttered, placing a light kiss against her forehead as her heart fluttered from his words. She hid her face in his chest, preventing him from seeing the blush that was forming on her cheeks.
“Shut up, Bucky,” she spoke, her voice muffled. He chuckled, the vibrations from his chest adding to her butterflies as she pulled away to look at the man in front of her. The man who had captured her heart, her soul, and her future, and he felt the same way. He leaned down, capturing her lips in another passionate kiss as he rolled on top of her. Guess breakfast was going to be missed this morning.
----------------
“You don’t understand, Bucky,” Y/N groaned, pulling at her hair in frustration at the man in front of her, “I wasn’t being stupid, I was doing this to help. Clint would have died.”
Bucky’s eyes wandered down to the bullet wound hole in her stomach, which was tightly bandaged with patches of blood getting darker by the minute. He was furious, she had self-sacrificially thrown herself in front of a bullet to save Clint while on a mission, and luckily survived with no major internal damage.
“You don’t get it, Y/N,” Bucky leaned against the wall, trying to formulate his words so he didn’t come off as selfish, “You put your life below others, you don’t value yourself. You need to realize you’re important, you can’t just risk your life willy-nilly like that.”
Willy-nilly? Y/N stopped to look at him, both touched and enraged by his words. Her mind swirled with how the hell she was going to react, but the stubborn side of her decided to keep fighting and stand up for herself.
“And who are you to tell me what I should value, huh?” She crossed her arms, her breathing rapid, “Bucky, this is my life. I get to decide what to do with it. Besides, I survived, didn’t I? So, no reason to make a big deal, come on.”
Bucky sighed, making his way over to their shared bed and took a seat on the edge, breathing heavily to keep his mind calm, “Okay, yes, you did survive. But you’re lucky you did. You need to realize that you’re important, baby, I hate when you just throw yourself into the line of fire without weighing the outcome first.”
Y/N sat next to him gingerly, letting his hand rest gently on her thigh, “Are you saying Clint should have died instead? I saved him.”
“And I’m glad he’s alive,” Bucky spoke slowly, “But you need to realize it upsets me when you do this. Think twice next time, I don’t know.”
“Think twice? Bucky, you’re kidding, right?” Y/N stood up once more, waving her arms, “I’m an Avenger. It’s my fucking job to save people, you get that right? Because if you don’t, we’ve made a mistake being together.” She let the words slip before she could think them over, and regretted them immediately. She didn’t want to break up with Bucky - it was the last thing she could ever want. But her stubborn personality made her keep pushing his buttons and spill something she didn’t mean. Bucky sat up off the bed, anger coursing through his body and walked up to her.
She knew how Bucky was when he was mad, and it was very rare she was on the bad end of the stick, but when she was, she hated it. Bucky had spent years trying to control his anger but nothing could have prepared him for fighting with the love of his life, so when he did, he lost it easily. Through no fault of his own.
“Bucky, I didn’t-”
“Fine. If you’re not counting my feelings into this, we’re done.” Bucky stormed out of the room, leaving Y/N staring at an empty bed. Her mind was running at a thousand miles an hour, trying to think of something to say, but all she could do was turn and face the now-closed door. She knew she made a mistake in what she said, but part of her was pissed at Bucky for just walking out without letting her explain why she said what she did.
She debated going after him, but her body led her to the bed, where she threw herself down and hid her face in the pillow. She let out a low groan, trying not to cry. She’d let Bucky calm down a bit before going to see him - he didn’t listen much when he was angry.
In their two year relationship, they had gotten into their fair share of arguments - they weren’t exactly a normal couple, you could say that. Bucky used to be unstable, unsure of himself, but when Y/N entered his life, it was like everything just lit up. She was his ray of light and he finally felt like all of his struggling was fading away.
Y/N had practically fallen in love with Bucky at first sight. She was able to read people easily, and as soon as her eyes landed on him, she made it her mission to bring him the happiness she knew he deserved. And the two made each other happier than either of them thought they deserved, this was certain. They were in utterly, irrevocably enchanted by each other, and everyone saw it.
Fifteen minutes after Bucky had stormed out, Y/N heard a small knock on her door. She rushed up, already prepared to throw herself into Bucky’s arms and kiss him all over.
“Sam?” She questioned in almost disappointment once she opened the door. Sam stood there, arms crossed and an annoyed look on his face.
“What happened? He’s been moping about my room for about ten minutes not saying anything and it’s driving me crazy. I’m ready to shove my shoe so far up his ass he’s tasting rubber for a year,” Sam pushed past Y/N and made his way into her and Bucky’s room, throwing himself down on the bed and crossing his arms, waiting for an explanation.
“Well,” Y/N sighed, closing the door and making her way over to the bed, sitting down next to him, “It all started when I was penetrated by a bullet.”
“You had to make it weird.”
“Shut up, Sam, and let me tell my story,” Y/N slapped Sam’s arm, continuing her story, “He got mad I jumped in front of the bullet.”
“Okay, so?” Sam raised an eyebrow.
“So, I’m allowed to risk my life to save my team, or anyone for that matter. It’s my job. Bucky’s upset that I’m not thinking it through enough,” Y/N continued to explain the situation to Sam, who although looked slightly confused as to why this became such a big deal, seemed to be understanding.
“I mean, I guess I understand where he’s coming from,” Sam looked around the room before looking back to Y/N, “The guy’s paranoid all the time about what happens to you. He’s always worried. You don’t seem to consider that, weirdly enough, but if thing were the other way around I know you’d flip your shit if Bucky got shot to save someone.”
Y/N processed his words. Stupidly enough, in the heat of their fight, she hadn’t totally considered how she’d feel if it was the other way around.
“But I’d understand, it’s his job,” she answered.
“He understands too, doesn’t mean he likes it.”
Y/N leaned back and sighed, realizing how stupid she was being, “You’re right. Shit, you’re right.”
“It’s been known to happen,” Sam smirked, standing up off the bed as Y/N did the same, ready to rush off and rush out half-assed apologies at Bucky.
“Alright, is he still in your room?” Y/N opened the door, walking out of it before Sam could do so. He nodded and Y/N rushed off down the hall, ignoring Sam’s sarcastic comments about abandoning him. She approached his door and knocked softly, a quiet ‘Go away, Samantha’ coming from the other side.
“It’s not Sam,” Y/N replied, sighing in relief at the sound of Bucky’s voice.
No answer came from the other side, but the door slowly creaked open and Bucky stood there, slightly crouched. Y/N pushed the door open more and forced herself into Bucky’s arms, enveloping him in a hug which clearly caught him off guard as he stumbled back slightly, using her weight to help hold him up.
“I’m so sorry, Bucky, I was being so stupid,” Y/N muttered into his hair, not letting him go. He slowly wrapped his arms around her, letting himself melt into the embrace
“I won’t deny that, but it’s okay,” Bucky chuckled, his head dropping slightly to rest against her forehead. He was glad she had lightened up about the situation.
“Can we not be broken up? I won’t be as dumb, I promise,” Y/N tried to bring a little bit of humour, pulling away from the hug and gazing up into Bucky’s eyes.
“We could never really be broken up,” Bucky grinned, placing a light kiss against her forehead, “You’re my one.”
Y/N sighed in relief once again, melting into his touch. It had only been twenty minutes, barely, and she had missed his warmth and his smile. Shows how clingy true love can make you.
“And you’re my one,” Y/N replied, placing her lips softly on his.
-------------------
Y/N was no stranger to sleepless nights. From Bucky’s nightmares to her own, she constantly had her mind wide awake and her eyes forcing themselves shut from exhaustion. They had tried everything possible to give him a good night’s sleep. Wanda had gone through his head, they made him all different kinds of teas, even tried giving him medication for insomnia, but nothing worked. Bucky was plagued with nightmares and sleep terrors that woke up nearly everyone on the floor on a really bad night.
Tonight was no different.
Bucky started shaking in his sleep, the small beads of sweat on his forehead were a clear sign of what he was going through. Y/N turned over calmly, ready to wake him up from another one of his horrific dreams.
She placed her hand on his chest, feeling his ragged breathing as he continued to toss and turn, his face contorting into an expression of distress and pain.
“Bucky, wake up,” Y/N whispered softly, leaning into him with her weight to prevent him from tossing about once again.
He didn’t stop, small groans in his throat letting her know that he was probably being tortured in his dream. She knew he dreamt of this often, that the pain Hydra put him through was probably going to haunt him for the rest of his life.
“Bucky, it’s okay,” Y/N said, a little louder this time as she pushed his shoulder down, causing him to jump awake, knocking her out of the way. He let out a long, shaky breath, shoving his face into his hands as he came to realize it was only a dream.
“Same dream?” Y/N whispered, placing a small, delicate kiss on his shoulder. He let out a deep sigh, taking his head out of his hands to look down at her.
“I’m so sick of it,” he mumbled, “I hate that they’re still happening.”
“I know, I hate that I can’t help you,” Y/N admitted, running her hands through his hair, which was slightly damp. She placed another light kiss on his shoulder as he started to lay back down, relief clear on his face. She laid down next to him, running her fingers soothingly up and down his arms. He shivered lightly under her touch, closing his eyes as he re-played the visions he just experienced in his mind.
“Was it the same thing as always?” Y/N muttered softly, looking up to face him.
“Yeah,” Bucky grumbled, opening his eyes once more to get rid of what he dreamt.
“I’m sorry,” Y/N lifted his hand, placing small kisses on his knuckles. She started running her other hand through his hair as his breathing started to slow down, returning to normal.
“Thank you - for helping me,” Bucky turned to plant a delicate kiss on her cheek.
“I don’t even do anything,” Y/N chuckled, joking slightly but there was sincerity behind her words. She was mad at herself, in a way, because she couldn’t help him. All she wanted in her life was to make sure Bucky was safe, happy, and relaxed. He had spent 70 years in the worst conditions possible and she wanted him to know that it was over, that it was another part of his life that he shouldn’t connect to himself.
“I’m so lucky to have you,” Bucky mumbled against her neck, leaving half-asleep kisses along her neck, making her giggle.
“No, I’m the lucky one,” YN grinned, Bucky’s hair falling all over her face as he continued placing kisses all over her face. It was little moments like this that helped their relationship blossom. They were so close, and the two of them wanted nothing more than to be with each other forever.
-------------------
Tonight, Tony was hosting an important gala - sarcasm intended - to celebrate his anniversary with Pepper Potts. It was cute that he went all out to celebrate their love, but these events were dreaded by the Avengers. Parties weren’t exactly their thing, and even though they loved Tony to bits, they all agreed that his extra-ness was slightly unnecessary/
Y/N, Wanda and Natasha helped each other get ready as if they were in some sort of cliché chick flick, but it worked. In an hour, they were all ready to go. Y/N found herself wearing one of Natasha’s floor-length green gowns, one of Bucky’s favorite colours, and tied her hair back, knowing how warm it was going to be in there and not wanting to deal with sticky, sweaty hair on the back of her neck.
She walked into the Avengers tower with her girls by her side, the three of them laughing about a conversation they had in their cab and made their way up to the floor where Tony was hosting his event. They walked into the room and immediately went their separate ways. Natasha and Wanda went off to find their guys as Y/N made her way to Bucky, who was deep in a conversation with Steve and Sam.
“Guess who,” Y/N joked, placing her hands over Bucky’s eyes, and she could feel his body shake with laughter as he turned to face her.
“Holy - you look gorgeous,” he looked her up and down, making her blush slightly as he pulled her to him, placing a quick kiss on her lips.
“You’re looking pretty dapper too, my love,” Y/N teased him before turning to Steve and Sam who looked out of place, “Hey, guys. Lookin’ sharp.”
“You look great, Y/N,” Steve grinned at her, Sam agreeing with his comment.
“Well, I’m gonna get some drinks, any of you want anything?” Y/N looked between the three of them and the open bar that Tony put together last minute. The three of them shook their heads so she head on over, already preparing her order in her head before she got there.
“What can I get you?” The man behind the counter asked, taking out a small glass and waiting for her order.
“I’ll have a peach margarita,” Y/N remembered she promised Wanda she’d try her favorite drink. The man made it quickly and handed it back to her, the light orange drink looking incredibly delicious. She took a small sip and hummed in approval, mentally making a note to tell Wanda that she has good taste.
She turned around, prepared to make her way back, eyeing Bucky from across the room. She took one step away from the counter before a cold sensation made its way down her chest. She looked down, the deep red colour of wine making its way down the gorgeous dress Natasha lent to her.
“I - I am so sorry,” the girl panicked, looking at Y/N’s dress.
“It’s okay,” Y/N whispered, placing her drink down on the counter and running off to see Bucky. Damn, of course she would ruin the dress. She bumped in to people on the way but ignored their annoyed protests, needing to get the stain out as soon as possible.
“Hey, no drink - Oh, no,” Steve stopped talking when he saw the panicked look on Y/N’s face, “Natasha is going to kill you.”
“No shit, Steve,” Y/N snapped at him, “I gotta go change, don’t tell Nat!” Y/N rushed off out of the room and down to the living quarters where Tony had enough rooms to bunk everyone here when they needed it. Bucky followed her, trying to come up with ways to get wine out of the dress.
“This sucks,” Y/N grumbled, peeling the wet dress off of her body once she was in her room. Bucky was on his phone, trying to google how to get stains out as Y/N changed into whatever was in her drawers. To her luck, a warm pair of sweatpants and a tank top sat in the top drawer. Of course that’s all she would have.
“This is all I have,” Y/N pulled the clothes out and started to dress herself, facing away from Bucky as he continued to spit out ideas about cleaning the dress. Y/N knew Natasha was not one to get attached to things like dresses, but the guilt still bubbled inside of her at the thought of ruining one of her items. Once she was dressed, she flopped down on the bed next to Bucky, who was wearing one of his best suits.
“You look really good,” Y/N rolled over to face him, “I can’t go back there wearing this.”
“We don’t have to go back,” Bucky turned off his phone, turning his attention to his girlfriend. He was completely enamoured by her, and as much as he wanted to do this at the perfect time, he couldn’t wait any longer.
“Marry me,” He mumbled out, making her snap her head up and gaze into his eyes, her breath caught in her throat.
“What?”
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while,” he admitted, taking off his suit jacket, “I wanted to do this at the perfect time, but being here, just the two of us, it is perfect. I want you as my wife, I want this forever.”
“Bucky, oh my god- ”
“Let me do this,” Bucky chuckled, getting off the bed as he felt into his pocket, pulling out a small red velvet box, “Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?” He got down on one knee, smiling up at the woman in front of him.
Y/N’s heart practically jumped out of her chest as she looked at the man in front of her. He was everything she could ever want and more, and yet there was absolutely nothing she could have done to prepare for this moment.
“Holy sh - Yes, Bucky, yes, I’ll marry you,” she breathed out, nearly collapsing from how much her legs were shaking, even though she was still sitting on the edge of the bed. He let out a sigh of relief, standing up to pull her in for the most passionate kiss they’ve ever had. Every ounce of love and admiration was poured into it, and it was as if their souls connected on a whole new level. They pulled away after a good while and Bucky placed the ring on her finger as small tears of joy made their way down Y/N’s face.
“We’re engaged, can you believe it?” Bucky grinned, picking her up and spinning her around, his heart more full than he ever thought it could be.
“No, I can’t believe it,” Y/N breathed out once he put her down, “But I can’t wait to marry you, Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes.”
“And I can’t wait to marry you, my lovely Y/N.”
It was safe to say Natasha’s stained dress was forgotten as Bucky and Y/N got lost in each other for the rest of the night.
-
Nearly eight months after the engagement, Y/N was standing in front of a mirror in a long white down, Natasha and Wanda by her side dressed in rose gold bridesmaids gowns. It was the big day.
“I am about to pass out,” Y/N clutched the table in front of her, letting the bouquet she was holding rest on the counter top.
“You can do this,” Wanda chuckled, running her hand up and down Y/N’s back, the silk of her dress helping to cool her down. Y/N groaned, the nerves making her feel faint as she grabbed a pamphlet off the table and fanned herself.
“You have five minutes before walking down the aisle,” Natasha pat Y/N’s back and went to fetch Steve. He was the one who was going to walk her down the aisle, her father was unable to attend the wedding under a whole bunch of different circumstances. It sucked, sure, but Y/N found it almost even more appropriate to have Steve there.
“Don’t get Steve, that means I need to like, get married,” Y/N sounded exasperated, but Natasha left anyways. Wanda picked up the bouquet and handed it back to Y/N, giving her small words of comfort as Steve and Natasha walked back into the room, both grinning away at the sight of the bride in front of them.
Y/N looked gorgeous, and Steve felt his heart soar at how happy he was for his best friend to have found the love of his life in such an amazing woman.
“Bucky’s one hell of a lucky guy,” Natasha winked at Y/N before turning away and opening the door once again. Sam and Clint walked in, dressed in dashing suits with little flowers in their chest pockets. They were Bucky’s best men, much to a couple people’s surprise.
The time came quickly for Y/N to walk down the aisle. Clint and Natasha walked first, followed by Wanda and Sam. Bucky stood the front of the altar, hair groomed and dressed to break hearts. Y/N made her way around the corner with Steve’s wrapped around hers and the two of them made their way down the aisle. Bucky’s heart stopped when he saw her - he was truly captivated. Y/N had to admit, Bucky really looked incredible. The two of them kept their gaze on each other, everyone else around them practically disappearing as the realization set in that they were finally getting married.
“You look - wow - I’m so lucky,” Bucky whispered into her ear when she made her way up to stand next to him. She fought back a blush, turning to face him and leaning in slightly.
“I’m the lucky one,” she whispered back.
The minister started his speech, making them recite their vows in front of a teary crowd, the bridesmaids and best men helping each other keep it together. The closer and closer they were to being husband and wife, the more nervous Y/N got - not because she didn’t want this, but because she wanted it so badly she couldn’t believe it was actually happening.
“Now, James Buchanan Barnes, do you take Y/N Y/L/N to be your lawfully wedded wife?” He asked and Y/N’s heart came to a halt as she looked up at Bucky, his loving gaze already stuck on her.
“I do.”
Y/N grinned from ear to ear, the happiness spreading through her entire body like a tidal wave.
“Y/N Y/L/N, do you take James Buchanan Barnes to be your lawfully wedded husband?” The minister asked her, making her tighten her grip on her future husband’s hands.
“I do.”
It was as if the entire room went silent as Bucky and Y/N looked into each other’s eyes, practically missing the minister calling for the ring bearer. Clint’s youngest son walked out, a small pillow with two rings sitting on top of it in his hands.
Y/N placed Bucky’s ring on his finger and he did the same for her, and Y/N couldn’t take her eyes off of how her hand looked now as a married woman. She quite liked it.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
As Bucky connected his lips to Y/N’s, the entire room burst into applause, hoots and hollers coming from the team being silenced out by Y/N as she took everything in.
She was married.
She was now Mrs. Barnes.
“I love you so much,” Bucky mumbled against her lips, deepening the kiss slightly as Y/N heard sniffling from the bridesmaids behind her. She was over the moon and there was nothing that could dampen her mood.
The reception was filled with laughter, tears, stories, and beautiful toasts given by family members and the rest of the Avengers. Fury even got emotional - it had everyone surprised.
The romantic bonding of two Avengers was not one that anyone recommended, but sitting here today and witnessing the connection between Bucky and Y/N was one that brought a smile to everyone’s face.
“Mrs. Barnes,” Bucky grinned down at her as the two of them moved slowly on the dance floor surrounded by their best friends, “I could get used to that.”
“Me too, Mr. Barnes, me too.”

Advent Calendar Series: 5/25
Natasha Romanoff | Black Widow
“Hey (y/n)!” Steve said.
“Hey Steve.” I responded.
“What’s on your mind there?”
“Huh? Oh- uh nothing.”
“It’s something, talk to me.”
“So Natasha, I- I kinda like her.”
“Well obviously.” He laughed, “Ask her on a date, you won’t be disappointed.”
“You think so?” I lit up.
“I’m never wrong, how do you think Parker got his girlfriend?” He winked at me, walking away.
I knew what I had to do. I stayed up all night planning just a potential date, I haven’t even asked her yet. I just know her favorite holiday is Christmas, so that’s what I’m basing our date off of. We all can’t go home, being superhero’s and normal people, is always hard. But we have each other and that’s what matters.
“Hey (hero name of your choice).” Natasha says, walking into the HQ.
“Hey, question!” I smiled, my face getting red.
“What’s up babe?” She smiled.
“Wouldyoupossiblywanttogoonadatetomorrow?” I blurted out.
“Whoa girl, I’d love to! What’s the date tomorrow? I gotta make sure Stark doesn’t have any other none sense training for us.” She laughed.
“Oh, I unde- WAIT, you said yes?! The date is December 7th tomorrow!” I smiled, red as hell.
“Oh yeah, it’s ‘family” Funday, so we can definitely get out of the bonding activity.” She said, getting up. She kissed my cheek before she left.
As soon as she left, I got up and did a happy dance.
“I take it she said yes?” Steve said.
“YES!!! AHHH” I said, running to hug him. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
I quickly ran off to go to bed, big day tomorrow!
NEXT MORNING
I got up and quickly got dressed. I put on a casual yet dressy emerald bodycon dress and threw some little elf ears and put Natasha’s outfit by the door with a note that said “wear me today :)” and knocked and went to the kitchen.
“Hey, a little dressed up for family day, aren’t you?” Stark said.
“No, she’s not, we’re going out.” Natasha said, coming from her room.
“You look amazing!” I smiled. She’s wearing a red bodycon dress with a santa hat.
“Oh, a bit festive today ladies.” Tony said.
“This was all planned by that pretty little thing over there.” Natasha said, looking me up and down.
“Speaking of which, we got to go now so we’re on time.” I said, grabbing my coat. Natasha slid on her coat and we headed out.
“So where we going? By the way you look AMAZING.” Natasha smiled.
“Thank you gorgeous, but it’s a surprise, we’ll be there soon.” I said.
Soon enough, we pulled up to the theatre.
“A movie?!” Natasha said.  I opened her door for her and took her hand to lead her inside. When we walked in, her mouth dropped.
“(y/n), all this for me?” She said.
“Of course, only the best for you.” I smiled.
I rented out the whole theatre out and put fake snow leading to our theatre. There was candles and roses and just romance.
As we walked in our theatre, her jaw dropped again.
“The Grinch?! No way!!” She said, hugging me.
“I use to watch this every Christmas Eve with my family.”
“ I know Nat, that’s why I chose it.” I smiled. We sat down and began watching the Grinch. About 20 minutes breakfast came.
“Grinch pancakes! Oh my goodness, you must listen to every word I speak!” Natasha said, with the biggest smile.
For the rest of the movie, Natasha held my hand and just tried to snuggle. After we finished The Grinch, we watch The Polar Express, and Home Alone, then it was lunch time.
I took Nat to a classic little diner, one she talk about her parents going to all the time back home on Christmas Eve.
“Wait- is this what I think it is?” She exclaimed.
“Yes! I figured you don’t see your family, so I’d make it seem similar this year.” I smiled. We went on to talk and talk, she told me more about her family, as I told her about mine.
We ate and left for the next surprise.
“Another one?” She laughed, with the biggest smile I have ever seen.
I drove downtown for the drive thru Christmas lights.
“This was my favorite part as a kid!“ She said. She spent the whole time pointing out familiar ones and news ones, as well as her favorites, it was the cutest thing watching her excited.  After we drove through all the lights, we took an hour drive to a special restaurant for dinner.
“Where are we now?” Natasha said.
“You’ll see.” I giggled.
“Close your eyes.” I said, opening her door and guiding her.
“Okay, open.” I smiled.
“I use to come here for family dinner’s every Christmas!” she exclaimed.
“Just keep going towards the back.” I smiled. Natasha walked through the restaurant and straight to the back section.
“Mom?! Dad?!“ She exclaimed. “How?!”
“Well your lovely friend here set this all up.” Her mom smiled.
“Babe?! No way! You’re the best!” She smiled. She hugged her parents once more.
“Mom, dad, I want you to meet my girlfriend (y/n).” She smiled.
“Hi!” I smiled.
For all of dinner, we all just chatted and Natasha just smiled the whole time.
“Thank you for dinner (y/n), also thank you for getting us with Nat. It was well overdue.” Nat’s mom said, hugging me.
“Yes thank you, I’m glad Nat got a good one.” Her dad added. We all walked out together and then went our separate ways. Nat and I were just holding hands on the way to the car.
“Babe, thank you for everything today. You are such a great listener, you got every detail right and I really needed this today.” Natasha smiled at me.
“YOU INTRODUCED ME AS YOUR GIRLFRIEND!” I exclaimed.
“Of course I did! After today I’d be stupid not to, that is if you want to be my girlfriend?’ She asked .I cupped her face and leaned in for a kiss. I drove us home with my hand on her lap and a smile on my face.
When we walked into the building, everyone was still up. We walked in holding hands.
“Seems like the date went well.” Tony added.
“It was so good I made her my girlfriend.” Nat smiled.
“Damn, I’m 2 for 2. Call me Captain Matchmaker from now on.” Steve said.
Natasha took my hand and lead me to her bedroom. We both put our jammies on and cuddled up to watch some more Christmas movies.

Therapy
“Anthony, please tell me why you are here.”
“Tony is just fine. We don’t need the whole Anthony.”
“Anthony, please tell me.” This lady was going to make him want to jump out the window. Rhodey said therapy would be good. It will help you move on from after that happened. Tony huffed and crossed his arms. This was going to be a long two hours. “Well I am here because I have anxiety, signs of depression. Suicidal tendencies, use to have alcohol addiction. Work alcoholic, irregular sleep patterns, heartache, repressed feelings that have been around for twenty-five years. Am I missing anything? Oh, that’s right PTSD after flying a nuke into an alien portal resulting everyone to live. So yeah doc. You going to fix me.” Tony took a deep breath trying to keep his composure without completely breaking down. The therapist didn't say anything for ten minutes and just kept scribbling on her note pad. Tony leaned forward trying to see what was being written but his efforts were interrupted.
“Let’s start at the beginning. Tell me a little about your childhood.” Tony rolled his eyes once again. This lady was going to tell him he had daddy issues and blah blah blah. This wasn’t his first go around with therapy and most likely won’t be his last. He often went every three years because someone would worry about him. This time was no different. “Doc. Let’s skip the chit chat. You know me and probably heard my whole life story more than once on some docuseries. I have issues but it’s not from childhood. Those issues were taken care of about three or four sessions ago.” Therapist leaned over and place her notepad down and had the look of a women ready to tell him to get his head out of his ass. “Tony, do you want to know why I call you Anthony because Tony Stark is the person on tv. Not the man in my office. I see the walls. I see the fidgeting. I see everything. And yeah, I know some stuff because it’s public knowledge. But here’s the thing I don’t know you. So cut the crap and let me help you.” Tony was taken aback and kind of impressed. No therapist was willing to actually help him. More to just put a band aid on all of his issues. Tony laid down on the couch and crossed his arms of his chest. “Okay, let’s start at the beginning. My father was an abusive, drunken asshole that for some reason I look up to. Even though he’s been dead for twenty-five years I still want to make him proud.”
“Once, I escaped the cave I just knew I need to be better. That’s how Ironman came to be. That suit and I are one” Tony was now pacing back and forth of the room. A sign of pure anxiety he was trying to swallow because if he was being honest with himself this was really helping. “Tony, you have to remember that you are Anthony Stark. The person that no one sees behind close doors and Ironman is the persona. It’s a mask. Why do you feel you and Ironman are one?” Tony sucked in a deep breath and turned his back on her. This was his struggle. All his life he felt like a disappointment. A nobody but with Ironman he felt safe and a somebody. He felt like a hero. He knew he was more then a suit he was a hero in his own right. Steve reminded him that. Tony closed his eyes and rubbed the spot on his chest where his heart was. It still hurt.
“When I met the avengers, I was getting a lot better. I was working on making the world greener and was living in the Stark tower with Pepper. First meetings weren’t fun. Steve Rogers was an ass, but can you blame the guy. He just came out of ice and was force to stay in a cabin that he didn’t know where he was.” Tony laugh to himself remembering that horrible suit he was wearing that day. “We got into each other’s face all day that day. He was so uptight. Couldn’t even take a joke. If you knew Cap now you wouldn’t think those two men were the same people. Did you know Cap was the first face I saw when I woke from falling from the sky? He looked so tire and his eyes were so blue.” Tony lost focus just staring out of the window remembering that moment. “Excuse me, Tony, could you tell me about your relationship with the other avengers?” Tony snapped back in and turned to look at her. “Well, Bruce is a good friend. Super smart. Lived in the tower with me for a while. Barton was a character, nice guy but more a work friend. He had the whole wife and kids situation going on. Natasha kept everything close to her chest. No one knew anything about her, but she knew everything about you. She’s a great friend. I don’t get to see her a lot always going somewhere for what was shield. Thor great guy too but we have a lot of differentiating opinions. He stayed at the tower once and awhile hanging with Bruce. Did you know those two were a thing? Didn’t hear it from me but then went off to Asgard. We haven’t heard from in a while. Thinking about neither from Bruce. Maybe I should retry and then do. Also.” Tony was spiraling. He was going off a tangent and couldn’t get himself to stop that was what his mind did.
“So, your biggest fear is seeing everyone you love die. Tony, you have to realize that you can’t control everything that happens.” “Yeah, I know but when Steve said you could have saved us, and he died in my arms.” Tony froze and could see Steve raising his shield over his head and slamming it down in his reactor. “He’s my friend. So, was I.” Tony whispered. He once again rubbed his chest. The ache never going away. “Why do you do that?” “Do what?” “Every time you say the name Steve you rub your chest where your heart is. Did you love him?” Tony was taken aback. Then he started laughing. “Love, this man left me dead in a Russian bunker just to save his friend who by the way killed my parents. So, no I don’t love him.” Therapist nodded and wrote some more down so to not to prob. “Do you feel betrayed that he left you in that bunker?” “Well yeah he left me there to die. I thought.” Tony’s voice began to shack. Promised no tears. “Have you been able to speak to Steve since this incident happened. Have you been able to have any closure?” Right after she asked that the damn cellphone Steve gave him went off. He pulled the phone out to just see a single message that read sorry, please call. “Clearly by the look on you face that means you have and that you have some feelings for him.” Tony put the phone away and stared at her. “Why would you say that?” “Well according to my notes, you grew up admiring Captain America. The first person you met in the Avengers was Steve. Steve has saved your life many times and vice versa. Here you even bring up you shared a bed at you buddy’s place don’t know why I needed to know that. In your vision you saw Steve die. Actually, you said there has been many of nights where there has been no contact with Steve, which lead you having nightmares of him dying. There’s been movie nights, vacations, he even lives in the tower with you. Then once you built the compound with his help, he moved. He gave you that cell phone so you could call him. If that ain’t love, then what is” Tony’s jaw was gaped open and horrified because for the first time in his life he learned that he did love Steve Rogers.
Tony put back on the mask he wore when he had first walked into the office and grabbed his jacket to leave. “I would say its been real doc and fun, but I wouldn’t say it’s been real fun. I got to go” He slipped on his yellow shaded glasses, through up a peace sign and he left.
Tony stood out on the sidewalk waiting for Happy to bring the car around. That lady didn’t know what she was talking about. She didn’t know him. He could never love Steve Rogers, Captain America himself. Captain America couldn’t love either, right.  Right when Happy pulled up the damn phone buzzed again in his pocket. He pulled it out and it just said please. “Happy holed onto that until Monday for me okay.” “Um, okay sir but why” Tony looked out the window seeing his old tower that was in the final stages of being sold. Remembering all of the good times he had with the family that had abandon him. “Did you know I actually went to therapy today and it was a wonderful thing. Happy, do you have any plans tonight?” “No Tony I do not.” Tony looked back at Happy smiled because he realized he had his true family with him. “Do you want to watch a movie and eat all the junk food we can. Think Pepper and Rhodey  would want to join?” Happy peeked in the rear view mirror and smiled because for the first time in a while he saw his best friend again. “Yeah, that would be wonderful Tony.” Tony laid back and took a deep breath because for the first time he felt like he could breath again.

Tumblr media
“Absolutely not.”
Your father looked instantly pissed when you walked into the room. You were heading to one of the biggest nights of your father’s career. It was one of  Tony Stark’s big parties and your father had been invited to spark up some business deal or whatever, you honestly had no clue. He was supposed to bring your mother as a plus one, but your little brother had fallen ill with a slight cold, and she wanted to stay with him.
“What’s wrong?” you ask throwing your hands in the air and rolling your eyes.
He gestures to your clothes and says in a disgusted tone of voice, “There is no way you are wearing that. This is a big night for me and I need you to look amazing and act amazingly.”
A tight red plaid mini skirt fit snugly on your hips, under the skirt black tights hugged your toned legs, and a black crop top accentuated your curves. You had smacked blood-red lipstick, a messy braid fell down your shoulders along with a golden chain necklace. And to tie the whole outfit together,  a nice black leather jacket.
“I knew this would happen so I went out last night and picked out a dress, let's go try it on,” your mom chimes in.
“Okay but please be quick, ladies,” your dad says.
“The dress is gorgeous and I can redo your makeup to match, oh you are going to look so pretty!” your mom exclaims leading you into her room.
“Names,” a cold voice demands to your father.
“(Y/D/F/N) and my plus one is my daughter (Y/F/N),” your father reassures him handing him the invitation he got at work. It’s a small, ivory piece of paper with swirly, gold letters printed on it.
“Isn’t she a little young?” the buff bouncer asks tipping down his glasses and looking you up and down.
“That my kind sir is none of your damn business.”
With your arm linked through your fathers, you guys walk into the Avengers compound and head through the all-white front foyer- your father's shoes making clacking noises while your ballet shoes are utterly silent- and head to the glass elevator. Your father presses a higher number, number 10, as the elevator travels upwards you catch quick glances of the other rooms, they all look like living spaces, and one sterile-looking hallway with many doors branching off.
When the elevator finally stops you guys step out of the elevator and look out into the room. It is filled with people, some you recognize some you don’t, the girls all wearing elegant dresses, and the men suits and tuxedos. There is a massive bar on one wall, some couches scattered around everywhere, a wall made entirely of windows, a DJ booth on another wall, speakers placed at random everywhere, and a dance floor in the middle.
“Okay so the objective is to mingle around with as many people as possible, okay?” your dad explains.
You give him a light shake of your head and he drops your arm and struts over to a group of people, completely at ease. Not sure what to do you follow him towards the group.
When he gets to the group they all exclaim his name and welcome him in like they’ve known him for years.
“I said go mingle, and be polite, and just make a good example.” He shoves you off lightly.
Not sure what he means by make a good impression you head over to the bar to get a drink. Noticing how young you are the bartender completely ignores you by serving everyone else around you. No one notices that you are there and does nothing to help you.
“Can I get a glass of champagne and an old-fashioned?” a smoky voice asks.
You look up to see none other than James Buchanan Barnes the former Winter Soldier. He has his hair slick back and a plain black tux. “You are James Buchanan Barnes,” you marvel. Then you shake your head and add, “I’m sorry if that was rude.” You look down at the bar ashamed of your behavior.
“Hey, it’s fine. Really you’d be surprised how many people here look at me and see the terrifying ‘Winter Soldier’. It’s nice to meet someone who sees me for me.”
“Oh yeah, I know none of that ‘Winter Soldier’ stuff is your fault. I mean you are a great person so I guess that’s all that matters,” you say with a shrug.
He chuckles and asks, “Can I buy you a drink?”
“Oh no, I can’t drink! I’m too young to drink. I’m just trying to get water.”
“Thank you. Can I also get water please?”
James Buchanan Barnes takes a sip of his old fashioned and asks, “Wait if you are so young what the hell are you doing at one of Tony Stark’s parties?”
“Well my dad is here to make a good impression to these people for his job and my mom would have been his date but she had to stay home to take care of my brother. So he brought me.” You punctuate the sentence with a shrug.
“Well how about you come over and meet the gang? Come with me.” He starts walking away but adds, “You can call me Bucky by the way.”
Remembering what your dad said about being polite you promise yourself not to drool over the heroes and make a fool of yourself. Bucky leads you over to one of the couches, there are some people sitting on it some around it. You recognize all of them even in their fancy clothing.
“Okay so this is Nat she is Russian and angry, don’t cross her. Tony the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. Stevie the blond beauty.” Steve’s face blushes bright red. “Thor the muscular alien king. Loki the trickster he will try to kill you at some point, but it is okay because he is really just a softy.” Loki gives him a grunt and a dirty look. “Bruce, he is also a big softy, but don’t make him angry. Sam he really sucks, we just hang out with him because we pity him. Rhodes now him we all love. Peper, now she is the best, like the best, we all love her. Nick, he scares me, but I’m sure there is a sweetie inside under all of the angry shell. Clint, he is dumb and shoots arrows. Scott, he can make himself small and do close up magic. And everyone this is… I actually don’t know.”
“My name is (Y/N). And it’s nice to meet all of you. I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
“Nonsense, we were just discussing soulmates. Where were you, Mr. Blond Beauty?” Tony teases.
“I… was uh saying that when Bucky was regaining his memory, he would write little notes on his hands and they would show up on mine. It was kind of like a little peek into his head.”
“Yeah, I get Stevie’s doodles on my skin,” Bucky swoons. They are staring lovingly into each other's eyes and everyone but you seems to find it disgusting and annoying.
“Ignoring that, sometimes I see equations and whatnot show up on my skin, and I think it’s kind of cute seeing what Jane is working on when I’m not around,” Thor admits with a shrug.
“Same!” Pepper and Natasha sigh at the same time, and that earns a chuckle out of everyone, a smirk from Tony, and a blush from Bruce.
“Yeah every once and a while I get equations on my hands when Hope needs to remember stuff,” Scott adds rolling up his sleeve to show everyone.
“What about you, (Y/N)? Any cool stuff on your skin?” Tony asks turning to you.
Every eye in the group is staring at you. You can feel all of them beating down on you. You can’t mess up and embarrass your family so you simply say, “Yeah I guess, a phone number and a name here and there. Most of the time it is just due dates for projects at school.”
“Sorry, I’m late Mr. Stark. Everyone else, sorry,” says a cute little squeaky voice coming up behind you. The person the voice belongs to sits down next to you, almost on top of you. He has soft brown eyes, fluffy brown hair, a sharp jawline, and a smile that could light up the room.
“Hey kid, nice suit,” Mr. Stark says, admiration in his eyes.
“Where have you been, Pete?” Steve asks, leaning over you to tousle his hair.
His face turns ruby red. “I had to wait for Aunt May to get out of work so she could drive me.” The boy scans the room his eyes stopping at you, he looks you up and down his jaw practically dropping to the floor.
A navy blue ball gown is fanned out around you. The dress itself is a bit poofy at the bottom and floor-length, and it is decorated with lace appliques. White eyeshadow tinted with gold sparkles dusts your eyes and lip gloss coats your lips. You and your mom decide on just doing natural hair just using hairspray to keep it in a position you like.
The boy's brown eyes skim over you again, stopping at your breasts before moving on to your lips, your nose, your shimmering eyes, and lands on your hair framing your face.
“Hi,” he breathes a little smile on his face. “I’m Peter by the way.”
“I’m (Y/N).” You look down your skin tinged red as a blush creeps up your neck and onto your cheeks.
“How about you, sweetie?” Natasha asks looking at Peter. “What kind of stuff shows up on your skin?”
“Oh my gosh, it is the most beautiful thing,” he gushes, “swirls and flowers and all kinds of designs. I love it every time I wake up there is a new one.” He pauses. “One night I was up late doing homework and I sat there for almost an hour watching the ink flow onto my skin. It was a few minutes until 4 by the time I couldn’t stand being up that long so I collapsed and by the time I woke up there was pen marks up my left arm almost like a sleeve tattoo.”
You run your hand up your arm and goosebumps appear.
“What is that on your arm, (Y/N)?” Bruce asks gesturing towards you.
A surprised noise escapes your mouth and you look down reading the marks on the backside of your palm. They read, “Don’t forget to ask Tony about the rose for Aunt May”.
“Um, it’s… just, um,” you stutter.
Next to you, Peter’s eyes go wide as he reads and he slaps his hands over his mouth in surprise. Everyone can clearly see what is written on his hand matches what is on yours.
“Well, you know what that means!” Tony whoops.
Next thing you know you and Peter are caught in a dog pile as everyone in the group is on top of you.
The rest of the night you and Peter take turns answering each other's and the rest of the group’s questions as a “get to know you”.

endgame time
okay i figure i might as well post all my thoughts on the movie and get all of it out at once
the good shit (oh yes i loved iron man 5)
the tony and nebula interactions were so good. so soft. love that sweet validation of them being stuck for 3 weeks and getting along. TONY OFFERING HER THE BLUEBERRIES on their last day of oxygen and her pushing his hand away and tony immediately scarfing them all. tony thinking of a complete stranger’s needs before himself even as he’s dying. fucking good shit a+
when he stepped off the jet and it was STEVE who rushed immediately to catch him lmao my heart nearly leapt out of my chest. a beautiful cinematic stevetony moment.
“i lost the kid, i lost the kid” holy shit superfam........ SUPERFAM. how he looked so distraught and heartbroken like he knows he took a teenager up to space with him to fight the greatest villain the world has ever faced and he LOST him and the way it broke him saying it out loud as steve was holding onto him
the catharsis of tony having his big “I WAS RIGHT FUCK YOU” speech and then collapsing afterwards. SHIVERS. and it was fantastic seeing rdj physically weakened and looking like crap surviving for 3 weeks on the ship with zero supplies. WHEN HE TORE THE REACTOR OFF HIS CHEST AND SHOVED IT INTO STEVE’S HAND. “where were you when i needed you” “we’ll lose together. you said we’d do that together too, LIAR” (not a paraphrase) oh my gOD. fucking deserved. his righteousness, his betrayal, his hurt. so excellent. loved that for him. all the avengers watching him with mild concern but also resignation knowing he WAS right and they’d treated him like he was crazy two years ago for nearly losing his mind because he was so worried about the threat of impending invasion.
5 YEARS LATER. steve holding support group was such a great moment of continuity from him watching sam holding the veterans group (a first win for samsteve in the movie), i loved him still wanting to create a space for others to share their trauma and to talk. the painful irony of having a whole cap trilogy and 4 avengers movies and having so few scenes of steve actually talking about his trauma and instead having his experiences filtered through other people’s dialogue has been so fucking painful and endgame continued to screw him over (see below lmao) with this one but i thought this scene was still a nice touch.
really enjoyed natasha saying she’d found a family and a purpose in THEORY but it wasn’t backed up enough by the context. she was running point on what was left of the avengers essentially but it felt more work related than “oh we’re a FAMILY” which the avengers has never been as much as they might try to act like it for one line of dialogue that’s meant to be so meaningful
AVENGERS ENDGAME AS A TIME TRAVEL CAPER. holy fuck a literal au come to life. loved it. we got a whole stevetony going undercover in the 70s on a mission which was awesome. spy!steve and spy!tony shenanigans. the throwbacks to 2012 avengers and continuations of the scenes we saw in the movie were so so much fun.
america’s ass. god bless. tony thirsting after steve in every world in every universe in the multiverse.
“i missed that giddy optimism” he also missed that ass, apparently
they really fucking WENT there with the hail hydra but i thought it was a smart (if smug) wink to the audience of steve one upping the hydra guys and taking the scepter from them.
STEVE LIFTING MJOLNIR!!!! steve WIELDING mjolnir and doing the lightning thing. THAT’S MY BOY!!!!!!!!
being 90% sure that tony was going to die going into this movie i knew it was nails in the coffin the MOMENT we saw the 5 years later flashback and we were at this beautiful house and tony was married and playing with his kid. it seemed gratuitous, it seemed too good to be true. and it’s everything tony deserved and more. the domesticity, the beautiful simplicity and quietness of having a wife and a kid and being surrounded by so much love. I LOVE YOU 3000. i love you 3000. holy shit. you cannot tell me or anyone that tony isn’t the best dad in the whole damn universe. that kid was so loved, so adored. all along, all tony has wanted is a family. he just wants people to love him and people that he can love that will stay. and he got exactly that. he got five years of that and maybe it’s not enough but being a superhero it never is. i’m glad he got that 5 years.
RESCUE PEPPER was incredible. gwyneth got more screentime than i thought she would. seeing pepperony flying their suits in the sky was SUCH a trip ironfam really won this whole event.
tony being bitter and putting up a front when natasha, steve and scott came to visit him. it was so jarring watching steve seeing tony with the happy family and life he’d never been able to have, always an impossibility to him. steve jumping the gun with “is pepper pregnant” in cw. such a bittersweet moment. it’s one of those very classic comic moments in the multiverse where they have a wild au concept and they lull you into a false sense of security that everything is beautiful and perfect and happy until they have to ruin it all again and go be heroes. it was very that. except the happiness and love was all REAL and tony got to have it.
their conversation about how everything had worked out for him and how he had a family he couldn’t leave behind..... bro he really got me (and the avengers) there. do you really think THE tony stark could ever live happily ever after knowing half the world was dead? either he’s going to die trying to bring them back or he won’t be able to live with himself at all. the simulations were such a satisfying move. his conversation with pepper. her telling him he wouldn’t be able to rest. it was tony asking permission but also telling her that he was going to go and leave behind their life to do what he had to do. the subtext of that whole scene was really fantastically done.
PETER AND TONY. THE PHOTOGRAPH. HIM LINGERING ON THE PICTURE OF PETER LIKE OF FUCKING COURSE HE HASN’T HAD A MOMENTS REST NOT THINKING ABOUT HIM.
so anyway. tony invents time travel. we love a genius. he also invents an infinity gauntlet. incredible.
i was holding my breath the entire scene of tag when they were tossing the gauntlet back and forth mf wAITING for it to land near enough to tony. i knew it was coming but like,,, jesus christ part of me wasn’t sure when they had bruce do the snap. they skipped a lot of the technicalities of wielding the actual gauntlet (like not going mad from power and having the whole weight of the universe inside your head at your fingertips) probably to keep from weighing the story down but THAT would have been a brilliant touch to seeing tony finally getting the stones. and having them slot into place on his OWN GODDAMN ARMOUR. TONY STARK FUCKING DID THAT.
“i am inevitable.” “I AM IRON MAN”. literally the most iconic line of the entire marvel cinematic universe and tony gets to say it as the biggest fuck you the biggest villain they’ve ever faced. loved it.
so yeah the gamma rays taking tony, baseline human out, vs. bruce was a much less satisfying end than having it be the weight of the whole universe and the promise of madness and infinite power. but this is the ending tony deserved. we always knew that one or more of the OGs would die and it was tony and this is exactly the way this should have gone.
tony died saving the entire universe. he died sacrificing himself and HIS future with his family for the avengers and for the universe. the story of the mcu begins and ends with his sacrifice. he wouldn’t have had it any other way. to know that what he did, what he’ll be remembered for, is saving the universe. it validates all the selflessness and heroism and grace we’ve always known he has when it comes to being a hero. tony isn’t the hero that gives speeches and moves peple to action, he’s the hero that just DOES the thing that needs to be done. the one that will lay his life down on the line to let everyone else crawl over him because he wouldn’t be able to live knowing he hadn’t done more. him dying meant that he’d finally done enough. he finally gets to rest. and getting to die surrounded by the ironfam was such a beautiful touch. tony stark is unquestionably a hero. his legacy will always be one of sacrifice and heroism and creating the possibility of a better future. he has always, constantly, relentlessly been working to build a future he will never see that is better and stronger and more resilient than the present; it’s inherently a part of being a futurist that he will never get to see this world that he’s willingly given up everything for. and in the climax of the final battle, he gave up HIS future so that the rest of the universe could have one, and if that isnt the most tony stark thing i’ve ever heard idk what is.
the unsolvable problem of the avengers
how do you write the culmination to a grand universe of 22 movies with the avengers being the cornerstone of that massive cinematic vision when your avengers aren’t even really a team? what are we supposed to root for when none of them seem to visibly friends or even like each other except when they’re in pairs? what “TEAM” are they referring to?
the avengers from day 1 aren’t a team. they aren’t a family. there’s no sense of camraderie in any of the movies between them all as a unit.
we had ONE scene of teamwork in the movie where they were locating the stones and planning what to do with them. the shot of nat bruce and tony lying on the conference table was great, but unearned. why should we care when they haven’t shown us how these people care about each other outside of saving the world once every few years? we don’t watch superhero team-ups for the cool fight scenes we watch them because we want to see these heroes actually care about each other and the BOND between them that makes them a worthwhile team on AND off the battlefield.
there’s no sense that even strategically, they work well as a team. steve is the leader sure and tony provides the tech but apart from that? there’s no spark. there’s no connection between them that makes us thing oh shit, this could really work. they’re on the same wavelength. they’re going to try and do the impossible and it shouldn’t work but it just might because it’s them.
cannot emphasise this enough: not enough carol danvers. she was yeeted out of the movie after her intro and then came back for the final battle and that was it. she should’ve been THERE in the war room coming up with plans and going to the space destinations with the teams. it was ridiculous to have the future leader of the avengers and the legacy of the mcu not be front and center with the (non-existent) team dynamic. it fucking bewilders me that CM could write and develop a fury + carol friendship better than her dynamic with ANY of the avengers, her future friends and teammates.
so, the avengers aren’t really friends. they’re coworkers who occasionally put up with each other to save the world and that’s fucking depressing and arguably why all the avengers but tony were so badly fucked over in the character development and ending of endgame.
the bad shit (full circle rip)
thor and bruce were treated like comedic relief for too much of the movie. i wasn’t expecting bruce to have much of a storyline because he never does but his conflict was solved with a handwave explanation in the beginning “oh i have the best of both worlds now, i’m both banner AND hulk the brain and the brawns”. was such a bizarre fucking feeling. and the insinuation that he’d just been chilling in the 5 years post snap with his new updated hipster wardrobe taking pictures with fans??? what the fuck? what kind of storyline is THAT? he should’ve been WITH natasha helping her deal with the fallout of the snap and working with the remainders of the team. what the fuck.
thor was done EVEN dirtier in this respect. it’s as if all the ugly stans that hated and mocked tony’s im3 ptsd storyline decided to put their messy caricature of him into a character arc. hemsworth pulled it off, to his credit and comedic delivery, but it wasn’t a story fitting of the mighty thor. there IS a way of writing thor going through trauma, trying to process the loss of his entire world and family and people, without reducing him to an absolute farce. imagine a thor, treated with gravitas and respect, lost and kingdomless and peopleless wandering the world, a recluse and a hermit, like the better side of the coin to hawkeye, but being called back to heroism because he couldn’t stand by and do nothing. idk if its the taika effect or just the massive turn that the thor trilogy took but i think the overt humour was the wrong way to go with thor and it made his entire storyline seem regressive and like they were laughing at him more than they were laughing with him. i would’ve accepted taking a leaf out of dc’s book (i.e. diana and arthur in JL) if they had to go down this path with thor’s story, of having him retreat from the trauma and grief of what he’d lost. because his pain was understandable, you could very clearly sympathise with what he’d been through but they turned his pathos into bathos and let his storyline play out in jokes instead of being the noble warrior and hero finding the strength to believe in people and have hope and fight for the world again. endgame really made a mockery out of thor’s legacy and not knowing if there’ll be another thor movie............... god he deserved better.
clint?? we don’t speak of mcu clint but idk. i gUeSs the russos achieved what they thought they wanted to achieve with ultimates clint going full rogue and becoming a lawless deadpool but without the jokes. (ugh 616 clint... you will always be the only clint ever.) of all the characters that SHOULD have a lighthearted ironic storyline, it’s CLINT BARTON. he semi redeemed himself by wanting to die instead of natasha??? thereby absolving him? idk whatever lets not think too hard about mcu clint.
i think most of fandom has long given up on mcu natasha so it’s less an issue of “this isn’t the natasha we deserve” and “well how badly can they fuck this up”. i think natasha’s development was well-handled and it was a Relief to have her final moment be between her and clint, purely driven by platonic love and all the shit they’ve stood by each other through. i don’t know that she needed to die, clint easily could’ve fallen instead of her lmao. but her being prepared to die for the fate of the world has been a theme since aou and i was glad it played out her seeing the necessity and pragmatism of sacrifice. i liked how she said “you think i want to do this?” because of course she doesn’t, ofc natasha romanova who’s lived through the rise and fall of empires and died so many deaths, wants to live. but she’s also a hero, and she’s spent so many years working to be a better person (when she said the avengers made her better g o d loved that line) and she knew what she had to do. idk that this was a fitting end for her but i thought her character development was well done (even if the team itself is a shallow non-existent “family”) and her sacrifice, alongside tony’s saved the universe.
ok don’t let the shortness of these points belie how much they annoyed me but CAROL deserved more screentime RHODEY deserved more screentime. SAM AND BUCKY deserved more. for characters that are so charismatic and bring so much life and dynamism to the avengers it was a fucking shame that they didn’t make the most of them. carol and rhodey especially. the lack of carolrhodey air force interactions and tonyrhodey was offensive.
sam getting the shield and the little moment of passing the shield was amazing but At What Cost
so..................... steve. oh boy. oh fuck here we go. the mcu has never known what the fuck to do with steve and i have written countless answers and thinkpieces and meta posts about it. the most heartbreaking part of steve’s story is that the avengers is literally his life. it’s tony’s life. and it is to many other avengers but all of them have always had something else to fall back on. steve has always only had the avengers, or the army or SHIELD or whatever affiliation he’s currently part of. his purpose and his drive is part of the team and whatever Thing he’s part of that he can throw himself into and embody. not having the avengers be a fully functioning team and misfit found family really handicapped his entire storyline and possible development. you could argue that steve found a family with the capfam but it’s really having a Team of people to lead and befriend and become family with that’s integral to steve’s character. his story as steve rogers, not captain america, is about finding a home and a family in the 21st century. making peace with what he’s lost in the past so he can live in the present and fight for the people of the present and future.
it’s ironic and tragic and an absolute abomination for steve’s plot to literally be about regression. as if nothing has changed. he hasn’t learned anything from tws he hasn’t moved on, he hasn’t been able to let go “but not us” (AND WHY THE FUCK NOT RUSSOS?) he hasn’t been able to grow or make peace or find catharsis. he was SUPPOSED to, burying peggy, letting go of her. getting bucky back. but the setup of the mcu and the failure of the avengers as a team and family has actively kept steve from being able to ground himself in the present. the mcu ripped sharon carter right out of their universe so she never stood a chance. bucky had to go back under ice. natasha was running point with the 5 years later vengers. so in the end capfam is just???? sam and steve? his only support system is two and a half people?? it fucking breaks my heart. steve DESERVED a family. steve DESERVED a home. and even if mcu wasn’t going to let that be all tony stark-related there should’ve been SOMETHING.
of all the endings they could’ve pulled out of their asses
of all the fucking endings
this shit was straight out of the comics
straight out of the bad place darkest timeline scenarios
the ramifications of it all. hydra? bucky? sharon? homewrecking peggy’s own family and happily lived life just to get them back together? steve willing to risk it all for a dance and a woman he knew for a few months over the friends he’d spent nearly a decade with? we’re supposed to believe THAT’S steve rogers???????????
a literal fucking mess.
captain america as we know him in mcu ends with tws thats it
also, my expectations for stevetony was 0 but we got more than i thought we would. there was no development in terms of their actual relationship but as the filthy stevetony shipper i am happy with the cheap meal we got. there should’ve been a conversation between them about what happened, about what went down, something to tie together the avengers and the “trust” they wanted to establish between them. something like tony keeping the phone with him all this time. a little comic parallel “we still friends?” “never stopped”. just. Something. we needed more than “you trust me” “i do” in the time crunch of a mission. it was unearned. idk how this conversation would go, literally there are a hundred choices that i’m sure we’ll see play out in fic but one final big conversation between the two cornerstones of the mcu involving heroism, sacrifice, where they stand as heroes, how they see each other, who they are to each other. something like tony and steve always, at the end of everything, at the heart of who they are, seeing through each other’s masks and facades and personas and SEEING who the other person is. a tiny mcu nod to “you gave me a home” that ties the past and present and future together. tony believing in steve. steve believing in tony. i could’ve forgiven mcu all it’s other stevetony sins if we just had that.
just spitballing but – tony: you know, i never wanted to be a part of this thing. the super secret boyband. it was never supposed to be me. steve: we made it work though. for the most part. until we didn’t. tony: even when it looked like there was no way of ever getting the band back together a part of me still believed you. gullible of me, i know. but i wanted to think that if there ever came a time when we had to make one last stand, as avengers, we’d do it together. like it was always meant to be. steve: i know. tony, i – tony: i should’ve called. steve: it’s a two-way line. i could’ve, too. tony: that’s how it always seems to be with us, huh? shoulda woulda coulda. always just missing the mark. always just out of reach. steve: i’ve thought about it a lot. about what i would’ve done differently. what i would’ve said. tony: that’s why you need me, cap. i mean, hell, it doesn’t have to be me but we all need someone to tell us to get over ourselves sometimes. to stop beating yourself over the head with your own mistakes. steve: [laughs] that’s rich, coming from you. tony: maybe. but i’m a firm believer in second chances. steve: you think that’s what this could be? a second chance? tony: i know it. futurist, remember? i’ve seen it all happen. steve: oh, good. we could use one of those. maybe you could tell us if we survive tomorrow and save everyone. tony: we will. because things are different this time.  steve: this time? tony: the way it should’ve been. you and me and everyone else. together. we can win. steve: now who’s the one with the giddy optimism? tony: i prefer to call it hopeful pragmatism. after all, i’ve run enough simulations. steve: i do, tony. i trust you. tony: well, we’re betting the future of 5 billion lives on this. steve: i know. and there’s no one i’d trust more to do it.

Jealousy looks hot on you
Fandom: Marvel
Pairing: Carol x Reader
Description: Tony’s parties are always fun, but when your girlfriend notices you talking to another certain red-haired Avenger she cannot help but feel a little bit jealous.
Warnings: Hints of smut, but nothing much
Tumblr media
Honestly, you do like to go to parties from time to time, but with so many bad experiences at Tony’s parties, you were kind of sceptical at first when he told you that there was going to be a party at the compound tonight to celebrate your most recent victory. If one person did seem kind of excited about it was your girlfriend, Carol. Due to her missing the last 3 decades of earth she did want to see how the world had changed and just to take at least one night off of protecting the whole damn universe. You did have to agree with her, you needed at least one night off of being an Avenger and going back to be a normal human being.
The night came sooner than expected and you found yourself getting ready for the party. Knowing Tony the fact that the compound was kilometres away from the city that would not stop him from making it the biggest party of the year. You looked in the mirror while you finish putting your clothes on, something formal but not too formal, and something that could be easily be taken off when you would be probably too drunk for your own good. You do your hair carefully and make sure you look ready for the party.
You leave your room to knock on your girlfriend’s door. She opens the door still putting on her earrings. As always she looks absolutely stunning. She wears a black jumpsuit with white stripes and a black blazer above it. You lose your breath the moment you see her.  She smiles at you and you smile back at her feeling how your cheeks have already blushed. You give her your hand and she takes it, leading her to the main room at the compound.
---
Taking into consideration that the Avengers had now become a really big family, it doesn’t take long for the party to get started. Of course Stark invited some other acquaintances too as everyone else did. You start to get tipsy some hours into the night. While you hear all the others start talking about the recent battle, you ask for the bartender for another drink. You sit in to wait for your drink and look over at your fellow Avengers
“It’s weird isn’t it” You turn around to see that Natasha has sat next to you
“What?” You ask not truly understanding what she means
“Being here together after everything that has happened. After everything, we have been through we still manage to stay together” She says
“Yeah, I guess it is. I like it though, I finally have a family, and a girlfriend never the less, I thought that would never happen after I joined the Avengers.” You laugh a little and Natasha laughs too. “I like it”
“Yeah, I know that feeling. I finally found a family too, here with the Avengers” she smiles at you. You reach to grab her hand and squeeze it a little. You arriving at the Avengers after your parents getting killed, you couldn’t help but feel alone, knowing that till some point it was your fault. Natasha was the same, kind of, not having a family, or at least losing a part of it, was kind of a recurring theme when it comes to heroes.
You continue talking with Natasha sharing stories and laughs, it was nice having someone to talk to from time to time, especially when you were not in your five senses. It was some minutes later when you feel some arms wrap around your waist. You turn around to see Carol with her head on your shoulders. She gives you a kiss on the cheek and one on the neck.
“Hi, Carol” you laugh a little at the tickling feeling of her lip against your neck.
“Hello Carol,” Natasha says too
“Hey, baby wanna come with me just for a sec” Carol ignores Natasha
“Yeah, sure” you answer “bye Nat.” you say as you stand up and leave holding Carol’s hand.
She leads you out of the room and closes the door. She kisses you, something was off about her way of kissing, though you were not complaining. Slowly your body falls against the wall. Your get trapped between the wall and your girlfriend's body. She slowly starts to move her lips to your cheek, then to your jaw and finally reaching your neck. You cannot help but let out a little moan when she bites into your neck leaving a red mark on it. As much as you loved this you place your hands on her shoulders and push her a little.
“Hey! is everything okay?” you ask Carol. You loved when she would take control of things. She could often seem so innocent and soft around you that you could forget how powerful she really is.
“Yeah, I just love you so much, and I want everyone to know that” Something was definitely off about her, she never was this kind of possessive around you.
“Wait” you start to connect the dots “is this because of Nat? Are you jealous”
“What? no! Of course not!” She was a terrible liar, everybody knew that. You could see hints of blush on her cheeks. She was jealous and somehow that made her even cuter than five seconds ago.
“Well,” You grab Carol’s hands and push her to the other wall “Jealousy looks hot on you,” you say just before kissing her, feeling her body relax against yours.

pepperony week: day 6
just a little oneshot written to celebrate pepperony week 2019! the prompt for the day was endgame fix-it. I truly hope it’s at least tolerable!
READ ON AO3.
“How do you think she will react to it all?”
“Oh, probably as anxiously as you could expect from a 5 years old.” Pepper replied, “But you know as well as I do that she will do great. She’s the smartest kid I know.”
Tony smiled at this. Of course she would. This was his Maguna they were talking about. There is no way she would be anything but perfect, which included her first day at school,  a normal, perfectly ordinary school — for their standards at least. Her security was their number one priority after all.
After the final battle against Thanos and his army of minions, the world was finally at peace, and so was, in slow, careful steps, Tony Stark. He hadn't forgotten everything that had happened, still had nightmares about the mad titan as they called him. But as it had almost been a year since they had fought against Thanos, things started to settle down, and he was healing — therapy, self-forgiveness and support from the people in your life can do wonders when you’re ready for it.
One could say they were all making progress. The world was still rebuilding itself, there were people who lost things and people they could never replace despite them reversing the snap and the economy worldwide was still trying to find a solid ground to be what it once was. But they were all moving forward. The Starks played an important part in trying to help the world rebuild itself from the ashes those five years of crisis had created, but they still lived in their secluded and modest home by the lake in upstate New York.
The most important part for them, though, was the fact that they didn’t need to fight anymore. Tony could finally rest. Actually rest, not being held down by the weight of his guilt like he was in the five years mid-snap. For once in his life, he actually felt at peace and like he could breathe. That was the very reason why he left the Avengers business once and for all. He still helped the young heroes, like the boy he loved like a son, Peter Parker, and the ones still there, such as Romanoff, Sam Wilson and Rhodey, with tech and such stuff. Both Tony and Shuri provided all the help they needed with technology, but that was as far as Tony’s work with the superheroes went now. He was actually okay with it, as impossible as that might sound to some.
He wanted to be able to see his daughter grow into a wonderful person and he wanted to be there for Peter, Harley, Rhodey, Happy and of course, he wanted to grow old by Pepper Potts' side. He once promised her he would try not to die before they were at least in their 70s and he couldn’t possibly break that promise. So, he didn’t just go and wielded the gauntlet created by himself, Bruce and that raccoon alien guy and died, not when they could all simply go back in time and save his self-sacrificial ass — there was no way his wife would accept it. And that was exactly why, after all was said and done and he thought he was gonna die, the people alive post-battle assembled to get him and Nat back in the game. Kinda.
It all worked out just fine. He was alive, so was Natasha and the universe was free of any imminent threat for now — hopefully for a long time. So that was pretty much why he and Pepper were casually talking about how it was to drop their daughter on the first day of school as they drove back home.
“I know, Pep. She is perfect. Never really doubted she would be anything less. But the kids…” he trailed off, “What if they– What if they bully her? I mean, she’s our daughter, we’re not exactly common people and she’s never interacted with so many kids her age before, honey. We only had that one neighbor who had a kid. What was her name again?”
“The kid? It was Meredith.” Pepper smirked at her husband’s inability to remember names.
“Yes! God, who names their kid Meredith? What were they, Grey’s Anatomy fans?”
Pepper had to laugh at that. He was ridiculous. She loved him.
“Honey,” she started as they stopped by a red light, “I’m actually surprised you know the name of Grey’s Anatomy characters.” Pepper teased her husband. “May I remind you, you picked our daughter’s name and I know it’s not solely because of my uncle, but also because you’re the biggest Arthurian legend nerd I know. So why are you judging?”
He couldn’t help but smile. She knew him way too well.
“Okay, you win, but I’m right. Besides, Morgan is a much better name and you can’t argue with me on that one or else I’ll record this and show Morgan. Won’t be pretty.”
“Uh-huh, right. Aren’t we losing the track of this conversation?”
“Right. Morgan, school, bullying,” Tony recapitulated, “I guess we should ask her how it went over dinner, huh?”
“That's what I was gonna say, honey.” Pepper looked over at him smiling.
He was definitely much better at the whole talking-about-important-stuff thing now that they had Morgan. So was Pepper if she was being honest.
“Love that after all these years I can still read your mind, Potts.” he kissed her carefully on the cheek and she smiled as they proceeded on the way home.
                                                    ____________________________
Later that day, right after dinner, the Stark-Potts household was filled with Morgan's delightful laughter as her Dad chased after her because she didn't want to go take a bath; she wanted to watch Moana for the millionth time that week. There were no arguments with her Mom though.
Pepper couldn't help but find the moment funny from where she sat on the couch reviewing a spreadsheet and waiting for them to stop it. And despite being slightly annoyed, she just thought the two of them were way too cute.
"'Kay, you win." Morgan said lying on the couch, her head on her Mom's lap. "But can we watch Moana after bath, please? Pretty please, Daddy? Promise I'll behave."
"Alright, Alpha Female. This time," he was panting on the floor, "I'll let you have this. What do you say, Pep?"
She looked at both of them from her spot on the couch and retorted, "Fine. You can have it… But…" she trailed off, looking serious.
"What?" two pairs of big brown eyes stared at her.
"I'm just teasing. Let's go get this bath started, you little monster." Morgan ran upstairs giggling.
"Don't run like that or you'll break all your teeth, squirt!" yelled Tony.
She actually quit running, for Pepper and Tony's amusement.
After getting their daughter's bath ready and leaving her under F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s supervision, they were talking about a bunch of random things as they cleaned the slightly messy kitchen — they could cook a decent meal, but they always left a mess behind.
It was part of their daily routine now. Doing domestic chores could be very therapeutic, they realized, and together it could be even better.
Pepper was finishing drying off the plates when Tony's arms found their way around her waist and his head dropped on her right shoulder. She couldn't help but let her own head rest against his and run her fingers through his hair. These peaceful, quiet domestic moments between just the two of them were not as rare as they used to be before Morgan, when they were barely ever home, but they still treasured them the same way they used to before everything changed. For better, but changed nonetheless. They were the same people, in a lot of ways, but completely different in so many others, yet the one thing that didn't change were these quiet moments of intimacy and what they meant for the two of them.
"After we watch Moana for the millionth time this week," his hands found their way under her sweater and caressed the bare skin of her waist, "we should totally explore a different kind of ocean, you know."
Pepper snorted at her husband's awful innuendo.
"I am serious, Pep." He was grinning as he lifted his head to leave kisses on her neck, "I would love to know more about your depths."
This time he snorted, "Alright, that was really awful."
She was about to reply when they heard a tiny voice by the kitchen's door making them both untangle themselves from each other.
"Why is Daddy going to explore your depths, Mommy?" Morgan's big, innocent brown eyes were focused on her parents. She had finished her bath and was wearing the cutest blue pajamas.
They didn't know what to say. At all.
"Ah– Well, baby, you see, Daddy was just making a joke." Pepper tried.
"Oh."
She kept staring at them and looked downright confused as she continued, "But I want to explore this ocean, too! Like Moana did."
"Maguna," Tony started, "Honey, you see, that was an adult joke… For an adult-only kind or exploring. You can explore all the oceans you want when you're older." He winced. "When you're much older. Like, when you're 40."
"When I'm old like you?" Morgan frowned, still puzzled.
"Uh… Yeah."
"Okay."
Pepper was trying so hard to keep herself from laughing during the entire awkward situation, but when Tony's expression went from worried to offended as he realized what their daughter implied, she couldn't help but just let it go and found herself out of breath from laughing.
"Is Mommy okay?" the kid whispered at her father, "She looks like a pepper."
"Might as well be one." He rolled his eyes at his wife's reaction, but smiled because she was damn cute when she was like this.
She stopped laughing eventually and just smiled right back at him. God, he loved her.
"Moana, Daddy?" the tiny one looked up at him, pleading with her eyes and the small hands on his legs asking for attention.
"Right! Let's do it. I love Moana!"
The little girl went ahead of her parents to the living room, leaving them behind amused and smirking.
Pepper intertwined her partner's fingers with her own and got close enough to his face so that she could kiss his lips softly, resting her forehead against his. They opened their eyes, seeing everything they needed in that one gaze.
The pair pulled away a few seconds later, still smiling.
"Let's go watch that film so we can explore other waters later, shall we, Mr. Stark?" she winked teasingly at him.
"As you wish, Mrs. Potts."
And he followed her.

Orphan - 3
Starring:  Fem!Reader and MCU characters! Contents: ENDGAME SPOILERS! Angst (surprise!), confrontations, questions that needs answering, sadness, loss, confusion, feeling homeless/rootless, lack of will, loads of other sad feelings. Sorry. A/N: So, yes, this is starting to move along and I’m very touched by the responses I’ve gotten on just the 2 first chapters. As always, if you want a tag: let me know. Feel free to reblog or comment as I adore any sort of feedback. Who knows...one day I might even get better thanks to it? ;)
Tumblr media
3. Family or not
Of course it’s not a big happy family reunion (whatever’s left of it). It’s an awkward walk through the autumn forest, stuck between a dude known for his robot suit and a chick who is part robot. Cyborg. At least Rhodes, because you’ve recognized him even with the lack of formal introductions, seems to be a bit sorry about the way things are going, but you probably bear some of the guilt for that as well.
No one says a lot after an initial phone call has been made, so it’s just the wet crunch of leaves muffling the footsteps as you trudge around the lake to a place probably used for canoeing during the summer. Now it’s place for a series of black, imposing cars with equally stern people whom you’ve seen on youtube, news coverage, and the few printed papers still in the making nowadays, and where Rhodes hadn’t seemed surprised by your existence…well…it’s a very different matter for the rest and your only comfort is that not all of the funeral guests facing you.
I should’ve stayed in bed today. The fight-or-flight response is long gone, replaced by a leaden sludge internally seeping from the guts to the feet. Why did I come? Spying on the funeral of a dad you’d only just found out that you had had wasn’t going to bring him or anyone else back, and right now? Right now you wanted your mom, not for the first time and probably not for the last time since she got killed years ago. Why did you never tell me, mommy? A new wave of guilt wrecks you, tearing at your heart for blaming the only family you’ve ever known, and you feel the hot swell of tears threaten to fill you eyes and drip from your nose.
I won’t let them have that too. No one moves a muscle as you clench your fists, your shoulders rising and falling as you combat yourself through the breathing. And no one interrupts Rhodes as he briefly explains about a trivial escapade decades ago that introduced the great Tony Stark to the concept of consequences. Consequence. Me. Just an accident that could be shoved into the dark recesses of a closet. No wonder your mom hadn’t told you who your father was when you were a kid, begging to have a full set of parents like your classmates.
But something must have changed with the Snappening, something else than just guilt had reared its head and made Stark leave you the answers to all the questions you’d ever had…even if he didn’t know id you’d be back.
“Confusion,” a dreamy voice lisps to your right, “sadness and…frustration…there’s so much hurt.”
You don’t look at her nor the person saying some nonsense along the lines of “I am groot”, whatever that’s supposed to mean.
“Oh…sorry.”
“Bad time or not, what do we do with her?” Nebula sneers more to herself than the rest. “Apparently, we’re not supposed to kill her.”
Even with the decent boots you’d scrounged, your toes are getting cold while you let them talk, make up their minds about your future both because you know these people will only leave you very little to say but mainly because you have no freaking idea what you want. The plan had only reached as far as to have a look at the funeral to see what you might have been missing out on. After that? Well, plan or not, now things have been set in motion that you can’t undo.
“Alright, [Y/N],” Rhodes finally turns to you with a frown, “let’s get you somewhere warm, waddaya say?”
You just nod and crawl onto the backseat of the black sedan he points at where you’re joined by the two men with the broadest shoulders, one of which is rock solid. *Best friends since childhood, Bucky Barnes and Steven Rogers were inseparable on both schoolyard and battlefield* Sure they were close then and apparently now because the men don’t leave a lot of room for you and you don’t dare shift for a more comfortable position, choosing instead to sit with everything possible tugged in tightly.
It’s unbearably silent after the last car door slams and the cortege of black vehicles move onto the road leading around the lake. Why did I come? I’m an idjit. The two relics makes it unbearably warm to sit in the car…or perhaps it’s the nerves. But you’ll be damned if you speak up now even if it’s to ask for a window to be opened. No one question Rhodes as he navigates them further from the Stark Residence, following a short stretch of highway before heading to what must be the nearest motel lying snuggly by the river.
“I’ll uhh…get a room for ya, wait here,” War Machine (minus armour) announces and leaves two super soldiers, one orphan, and a blue cyborg behind without waiting for an answer.
This isn’t for me, right? “He…doesn’t have to. I’m sure I can get my bed back at the hostel.”
There’s a very obvious snort of disbelief from the front, but at least the Captain is kind enough to  try to turn to face you and explain: “Don’t take this the wrong way, miss, but this is for our sake. Gives us a chance to talk with you…know where you are.”
“So I’m not s’posed to leave…”
“No.”
“Nebula!” Rogers chastises to no other effect than a scoff and shrug.
Why not admit it too, Capcicle? “Not a prisoner, just…grounded? Does that make you my daddy?”
The blush spreading rapidly across the blond man’s face is gloriously deepened by Barnes’ rolling laughter which continues as the car doors are opened from the outside by the only guy who knew about your existence. Behind him is a tiny crowd including a guy with a mohawk, a green woman, and…the fuck? Are those antennae?!
 …   Clint   …
Good, old Tony Always-a-Surprise Stark. Not only did the guy have to go off and be the biggest hero of them all, he’s made sure to make a backup and kept her tugged away safe and far away from the messy (yet glamorous) life he’d lived. Glancing over at the chick, Clint can’t help but see parts of both the father’s and even the little sister’s features. The eyes. Fuck, it hurts more than he’d imagined.
Wonder what Nata– But no, Natasha won’t have any thoughts on what to do. There’s no calm logic from the world’s best redhead to counter the scared and cowed emotions streaming from [Y/N], as she’s called, who’s waiting silently for a verdict.
She’d come prepared, Tony’s daughter. All the documents and shit that Stark had left after the Snappening are spread out on the bed as proof of her existence just in case no one would believe her or Rhodes.
“I am Grooot?”
“What do you want?” the raccoon translates easily. “Why show up today? What’s the point?”
Nimble hands wring a snippet of a jacket that seems to be second-hand. “I dunno…guess it was sorta to…” She sighs, and it almost makes sense to Clint what this is about. “I only remember seeing him once and I didn’t know then. Now I’ve got a-a half-sister? It doesn’t feel real!”
“So you went, made sure they’re there…then what?” The odd creature is feisty for its size, a sort of feral smugness playing on the little face. “Want money?”
“No, that’s not –“
“All his cool gear?”
“Why would I –“
“Ah! Marry the grieving widow to –“
A mix of shouts and protests shut the furry interrogator up even if it’s probably only going to be for a while – it doesn’t take a lot of time together with Rocket to figure that out. Or why.
“Listen, I don’t have a fucking plan. Okay? I appear on some poor guys lap in the middle of a lecture only to find out it’s been more than five years! I got no home, no one to go to, no job. Maybe, some old pictures and books have survived, but that’s it. Stark might’ve been my father, but he’s never been my dad and I don’t belong with his family!” There’s a subtle movement from the Quill-guy, but no words break the roaring silence that follows [Y/N]’s outburst.
She needs a home.
“You’re not going back to the hostel.” Clint hears himself declare, already pulling the phone out of the pocket. “You’re not gonna be on your own.”

Word Count: 1400 words
Warnings: ENDGAME SPOILERS, A gay fanfic, mentions of multiple failed IVF treatments, ANGST. SO MUCH ANGST. I HATE MY HANDS FOR CREATING THIS.
Tumblr media
These ten minutes was the longest ten minutes of your life. Granted, it wasn’t the first time, but it never got any easier. Every time you would find yourself pacing the length of the bathroom, arms crossed defensively over your chest and your mind whirring a thousand miles a minute.
Quick, rapid fire anxious thoughts shot through your head as you looked over at the pregnancy test sitting face down on the counter.
Would Natasha leave you if you couldn’t give her a child? No, that was ridiculous. Was it? What WOULD happen if it was negative? Was something wrong with you? What if it was positive? Having a child was all the two of you had wanted for years, but were you really ready? You breathed out shakily, swallowed and braced yourself against the wall, feeling your body shake involuntarily.
Natasha knocked on the door directly across from you, breaking you from your thoughts. “Y/N? How are you doing in there?” She asked, the aura of unsurety present in her voice too.
It took you a second to find your voice and you turned to face the doorway and slid down the wall until you were sitting with your knees pressed up against your chest. “Yes, yes, I’m okay. Just… nervous. That’s all.” You answered, rubbing your eyes as you felt tears well up in them.
“Understandable. I’m nervous too.” She admitted; her voice distorted by the wooden panel in between the two of you. For some reason that reassured you, but you couldn’t bring yourself to say anything else in response, so you just hummed.
This was your fourth cycle of IVF treatment, and much as you were unwilling to admit it, you were beginning to lose hope. You felt like something was wrong with you, why couldn’t you conceive a child?
Nat had been a rock through-out, however. She’d never once doubted that you two would one day become parents. She was optimistic, she had to be, this was her only chance at becoming a blood mother, and you loved her even more for it.
You phone timer chimed on the counter, sitting next to the pregnancy test. You groaned and shoved your head in between your legs, turning yourself into a ball and trying to block the rest of the world out for a minute, or even a second longer. Finally, you pushed yourself up off the floor with a groan.
“Showtime?” Nat asked.
“Yeah, Showtime.” You said under your breath, your hand shaking as you reached for your phone to switch it off. Next was, well, the test. You swallowed and hesitantly reached out, taking the test and flipping it over. Time froze.
Two pink lines.
Two pink lines.
Two. Pink. Lines.
You had to mentally recalculate for a second. One, two, yeah, that’s two. You grabbed the box and read the instructions. Two lines indicate pregnancy. And that means…
It worked. You’re pregnant. You and Nat are pregnant.
“Nat!!!” You shrieked, rushing to the door so fast that your legs temporarily malfunctioned, and flung the door open, shoving the pregnancy test inches from the redhead’s face.
“What is- Oh god, Y/N! Stop! You peed on that!” Natasha said, biting back laughter as she jerked away and grabbed the pregnancy test off of you. Her eyes widened as she saw the result, and her face broke out into the biggest smile that matches your own.
“We’re going to have a baby.” She whispered.
“A little baby spider.” You said, nodding and placing your hands on your stomach. She snorted but dropped to her knees none-the-less to face your stomach.
“Hey sweetheart.” She whispered. “Your mother and I can’t wait to meet you. I am going to love you so damn much. You’re going to be beautiful, and powerful, just like your mother,” She promised, pressing a kiss to your clothed stomach.
“And you’ll have a fighter’s instinct and a hero’s conscience, just like your mom.” You added.
Nat blushed softly pressed her cheek to your belly, almost as if she was listening for something. “and you’re going to have to many Aunts and Uncles who are going to love you and protect you.”
“Oh my god, our kid is going to know the avengers personally.” You murmured, a good brand of realisation dawning on you. “Tony’s going to dote on them so much. He’s will probably make them a whole high-tech spider suit before they’re three, and then Shuri will make a better one out of sheer spite.”
Natasha laughed softly against your stomach, letting her eyes fall closed. Suddenly, her eyes flew open and she jolted to her feet. “I have to make you a doctor’s appointment!” She exclaimed, picking up her phone and dialling numbers. “And you have to take another pregnancy test, just to be certain!” She looked around; mama bird mode engaged. “We don’t have any more here, you’ll have to go to the chemist. Wait, no! I should go! You’re pregnant!” She looked away from her phone and back up at you. “Do you know if Stephen Strange is an actual doctor, or is that just like ‘Spider-man’?” She asked.
You grasped her shoulders to steady her. “Nat, Nat. It’s okay. We’ll have time for all of that later, I promise. Neither of us are going anywhere.” You said, smiling reassuringly. “Let’s just enjoy this moment. It’s all we’ve wanted for years.”
Nat took a deep breath and smiled, nodding. “I love you, Y/N.”
“I love you too, Nat.”
~~~~~~~~
Wanda found you sitting at the edge of the lake, watching the world pass you by. You had barely said a word all of Tony’s funeral, a few choice words with Clint, a murmur to Wanda herself, a timed condolence to Pepper and then you were gone. You had turned into a shadow of your former self, and even those who did not know you well commented on it. It wasn’t your fault, you felt empty, as if you had lost part of yourself, your other half, and you knew you would never be the same.
“Y/N?” She called. Instantly you snapped from your daze, wiping your eyes of the fresh, salty tears.
“Yes, Wanda?” You called back, voice cracking with pain.
“What are you doing out here? Everyone’s inside.” She asked.
“Too many people. Too many questions. I felt like everyone was staring at me. I needed to get away.” You tried to explain through the least amount of words possible. You didn’t want to talk. You didn’t want to be here. You wanted to be with Nat, back home, in your old life with your daughter but it wasn’t possible and it never would be again.
“I understand. Do you want to talk about it?” She asked.
The word ‘no’ caught on the tip of your tongue, perhaps because, in fact, you did. You wanted to talk about it but you didn’t want to talk about it. Both of you sat in silence for a minute, staring out at the water. You wanted to say so much and nothing at all, all at once.
“They never even held a funeral for her.” You finally said, finally breaking down into full on sobs. “I never even got to say goodbye.”
“Oh, Y/N, that’s not your fault.” Wanda said, reaching over to wrap her arms around you. “She knows you love her. She knows you do. Of course, she does.” She whispered reassuringly. Her head moved and you heard footsteps behind you. “Come here.” Wanda said, gesturing whoever it was forwards. You looked up and saw your daughter, Nia, walking slowly towards you. She was in her ruby red dress, perhaps Ill-suited for iron man’s funeral, but when you asked why she was wearing it, she said it reminded her of her mom, so you let her wear it regardless. You hastily tried to pull yourself together for her.
“Are you okay, mom?” She asked.
“No, but I will be, Come here.” You said truthfully, drying your eyes on your sleeve for the thousandth time and gesturing her to come closer. When she did, you enveloped her in a soft hug, smoothing down her hair.
“Is mama gone?” She asked, softly, clearly trying not to cry herself.
“Yes.” You said, choking back another set of sobs, trying to be strong for the sake of your daughter. “But she’s watching over us, you know?”
“Really?” She mumbled.
“Yes. She loved you so much Nia, and she always will, no matter where she is.” You promised.
“Thanks, mom.” She said, hugging you tighter and tighter with every breath.
I’ll look after her Nat, you thought, looking out at the water. I promise.
And then I wrote a really long reaction post for Endgame...
Here’s the short form:  <3 <3 <3... ??  @#(*$A)(@#*!?! <3.....<3 ....?<3? <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 !!!
The super long form is below the cut...
So, I went into this movie with a lot of feelings, and I came out with a lot of feelings, and it's taking me some time to process them.
The first, and maybe the most important thing I want to say, is that regardless of my personal fannish/emotional reaction to some of the events -- the film itself was an absolute triumph.  I mean - it was amazing.  There were a great many things to love - and that is a list that includes some things I hated.  Love/hated.  Both!  The fact that they could bring a series of films that spans over a decade together in a way that had people laughing and crying in the theatres, often both at the same time - it's just truly, truly awesome.  It says something that they were able to build these real and true characters who feel important enough that their fates can actually break our hearts.
So I applaud that, and I hope the film industry takes a good long look at these films and learns from them.  Audiences are willing to wait for the pay-off, we're willing to tackle difficult things, we're willing to fall in love with what we see on the screen if the writers and producers and directors put the effort into allowing it.
That said...
I really liked this movie overall, but I went into it really wanting two specific things for myself, and I didn't get them.  In fact I kind of got the opposite of them, and a lot of my coming to terms with the movie has been coming to terms with just... not getting what I wanted.  And finding a way to be okay with that.
I wanted Tony to live - and if you're back here behind my spoiler cut, you know I didn't get that one.  It was really hard to lose him.  He was my favorite character in this whole crazy cast. I loved that he could be so wrong sometimes, and with so much utter conviction.  I loved that he could be terrified out of his mind and then just do the terrifying things anyway, because somebody had to, and he could.  I loved how smart he was, and how vulnerable he was, and how he built walls of words to defend himself and define himself.  I loved how hard he loved the people that HE loved, and how much he was willing to do for them.  I loved how great he was with kids (and I love that he got one of his own!) and I love how that seemed at least in part because he never finished growing up himself.
So while I am wrecked that this is the end of Tony in this particular strand of the comics universe, I can't deny that it is 100% true to who he was. He was always going to be the guy who would do this, if it needed to be done.  And it did, so he did it, and it broke my heart - but in the end I have to be okay with it, because yeah.  That was Tony Stark, distilled down to his purest self.  I hated it, but I also loved it, and more importantly I think, I bought it.
I also really would have loved to have a kind of on-screen farewell to my pairing, and I didn't get that, either.  I'm a Science Boyfriends kinda gal, and there was almost zero interaction between Bruce and Tony - there was zero relevant interaction.  But it is what it is - this was never going to be everything to all people, and that's one of the relationships that didn't get priority.  I'm okay with that, too - mainly because its absence means they didn't do anything TERRIBLE to it, either!  When it comes to my pairings, I'd far rather TPTB leave them alone than do something I don't like.  That said - it would have been nice if they'd you know, exchanged a couple of lines?  And it would have been SUPER nice if Bruce had been around to react to Tony's death. Getting past it, getting past it.... ;)
My biggest fear going into this movie was that it would kill my fannishness about the Avengers.  I just recently rediscovered it, and I've been writing like a MAD thing.  I've stayed up too late writing, I've gotten up way to early to write... I've written through nights when I was supposed to be raiding with my online pals, or watching stuff with my housemates.  I've definitely done quite a lot of writing when I was supposed to be working! And it's been fun, and it's felt really good, and I just didn't want to lose it.  I missed fandom and other fans, and I missed caring so much about characters and pairings.  Having it all back again these past couple of months has been a blast -- so I went into Endgame a) pretty sure they were going to kill Tony and b) pretty sure that killing Tony would kill my fannish joy.
I am happy to report it did not.  I'm still in love, and I'm still writing like crazy.  I gave myself some pretty stern talking-tos in the lead-up to the movie, along the lines of "Are you really going to let a couple of rich white geekboys decide what happens to YOUR Tony Stark?" and in short form, "CANON IS NOT THE BOSS OF ME!"  I think it helped.  I'm still here, anyway!
There are a few other things I really didn't like.  One - the CGI for Bruce was a horror show for me.  It landed right in the Uncanny Valley, and I could barely stand to look at him on screen.  Every time he showed up, it was like a cartoon character appearing in my live action show.  I think that actually may have helped me with the Tony thing, though -- because it yanked me out of the movie when Bruce was onscreen, and that gave me the distance I needed to not become a puddle of shivering misery on the floor when Tony died saving the world.
Don't get me wrong - I really do like that he's able to integrate now.  I like that he has control.  Still, I'm not sure this is a road I ever really want to go down in my writing.  I like Hulk too much to want to see him essentially killed by Bruce (which is kind of how I'm reading this.)  I get that Hulk IS Bruce IS Hulk and if I were his therapist I'd be all over it.  But I'm not his therapist - I'm one of his slashfic writers.  And as such, I prefer him splintered and angsting over it.  :)
I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about Natasha, and I'm not sure they're particularly coherent.  I think if Endgame had happened exactly the way it did, WITHOUT the disgusting Ultron lines about how she's a monster because she can't have kids, I'd be fine.  As it is, Ultron happened and then Natasha gave herself up for a guy with a family, and from a purely Doyle-ist perspective I find that sequence of events suspect, and deeply gross.
On the other hand, from a purely Watsonian perspective, I fully agree with what  <a href="https://cesperanza.tumblr.com/post/184622436895/i-cant-believe-that-as-a-prominent-woman-in">cesperanza had to say about Nat</a>, so I'm just going to let that stand for me, too.
Probably the final thing I didn't like was fat!Thor.  I do get the arguments on the other side of this, that it's cool to show even a super hero can get depressed and live off cheez whiz and get fat and disaffected. But I also think that's not all there is to this; I think you don't make Chris Hemsworth run around in a fat suit without on some level doing it for the point-and-laugh. And I find that kind of "joke" toxic and disgusting.  I'm not going to go on and on about it here, but in short just - a world of no from me on that.
So what's my score so far?  2 things I wanted but didn't get, 3 things I didn't like?  But on the bright side...it's now time to move along to the bright side! And the bright side is pretty damn bright.
I was incredibly happy that Tony and Steve were able to repair their relationship.  Civil War was such a tough movie to watch, and while there was at least a thread of hope for them at the end of it, this resolution was a long time coming.  They're so very different in their worldviews and methods, but so very alike in their absolute dedication to protecting people and doing the right thing - the friction has always made perfect sense, but getting to see them come to terms with each other ... that's something I have really wanted for a long time.  I was extremely sad watching Tony just chew into Steve at the beginning of Endgame, but not at all surprised - Tony was completely done in, physically, mentally and emotionally.  Just seeing Tony that physically wasted and weak was hard.  Steve's reactions to it were perfect, though, just perfect.  I don't think I could have asked for any more than I was given for the two of them.
I loved Tony's relationship with his daughter - in fact, I love Tony's relationship with every character below the age of majority that he's ever been on screen with.  Tony may be my OTP (One True Parent) in fact - he's just so deeply interested in these kids (Harley, Peter, Morgan) as human beings.  And he treats them oddly as equals, while still somehow managing to parent well for each of them.  He's hilarious and snarky and caring and he connects.  I don't know, I just adore it.  We didn't get to spend a lot of time with Morgan, but it was obvious she adored Tony and was well on her way to growing up to be just like him, and I wholly approve.
And before I leave the topic of kids - Tony mourning Peter broke my heart, and his love for Peter when he came back knitted it back together again (that hug omg, </3 -> <3) and then Peter's breakdown when Tony was dying, finally calling him "Tony" instead of Mr. Stark or sir...there it goes, heart broken again.  BROKEN.
I and the rest of the universe loved Steve wielding Mjolnir (and Thor KNEW it!). We all saw this coming from way back at the party in Ultron, and a part of what this series of movies has managed to do that I love is take moments like that, a billion movies ago at this point, and pay them off one by one.  Sure, it's fan service, but because they were patient, it feels earned.  I adore it.
I'm going to wrap this up for now because if I don't, it's never getting posted - I have a ton of thoughts and even MORE feelings about this movie, and I'll be posting more of them because how can I NOT.  But I do want to talk a little about one of the major things that literally filled me with joy:
The return to Avengers 2012!!! <3 <3 <3
I just want to go back and live there - like, I want to build a tinyhouse with a telescope in the window and just stare at it all from the shadows forever.  I could literally sit for days upon days of "what happened in Avengers 2012 around what we saw on the screen in Avengers 2012" - that could be an entire TV series and I would tune in for every freaking episode.  It was SO. MUCH. FUN!  From "feel free to clean up..." to "take the stairs" and "SO MANY STAIRS" to Loki pretending to be Steve and Loki stealing the tesseract and poofing out to Thor saving Tony with his hammer and both of them so jazzed about it... OMG.  I just love it all, and I'm so happy they did it.  I loved everything around it - I loved Bruce trying half-heartedly to smash, I loved the Sorceress Supreme up on the rooftop fighting the Chitauri, I loved Bruce getting smacked out of Hulk and Hulk on a lounge chair with a sunhat over his face.  EVERYTHING.  I just.  <3
I went into Endgame expecting the worst for my favorite character, and I got the worst for him.  But the more I think about this movie, the more I find that it's a happy place for me. It gave me what I didn't want and it made me like it.  Like - a LOT.  I went into it expecting/fearing that it would kill my fannishness about Avengers, and it's done the exact opposite - it's brought me back into fandom, back into contact with fans, back into thinking all the thoughts and feeling all the feelings and wanting to share them with other people who are thinking and feeling about the same thing.
I feel like this entire series of movies, this slate of characters, this universe they've built - it's a gigantic wonderful amazing heartbreaking heartmending accomplishment, and I'm just super glad it's all here, and that I got to experience it all.
(And I can't wait to write a metric fuckton of stories that ignore it! Tony may be gone in this timeline, but he's never going to die in mine, damn it!)
Dear Yuletide writer,
as far as I can tell from the sign-up summary, you matched with me because of either Silent Hill 3 or Avengers Academy, because I was the only one who requested or offered the other two super-tiny fandoms I nominated. if you feel like doing one of those after all, though, go for it!
I feel like...most of the fandoms I requested aren’t too likely to lead to fics with my major DNWs, probably. I wouldn’t want to see dubcon or significant manipulation in a relationship that’s supposed to be positive and healthy, for instance. I’m not opposed to explicit sex scenes of any kind, although I often end up skimming them because I’m the type of ace person who is just Not Interested in most of the physical aspects, so...you’re welcome to write sex scenes but you absolutely don’t have to feel like you need to.
in general, my biggest DNW is unhappy endings. I’m thrilled to see my favorite characters go through all kinds of hell to get there, but I like things to be okay or at least hopeful by the end. if canon is the unhappy part in one way or another, I’m always happy to read fix-it fics. Between post-canon fix-its that could reasonably happen in the future and canon-divergence AUs where things are okay now because of some mid-canon change, I have a slight preference for the former, but both are good.
as for stuff I like, well, the other thing implied by my main DNW is that I do often enjoy fairly dark fics, as long as they end okay. I also like Loki a lot, as you can probably guess from my requests. if you ended up matching me on Avengers Academy Loki and/or you want to take a stab at one of the other two Loki-centric requests, the Loki fics I’ve actually written are pretty representative of stuff I like in my Loki fics, which basically boils down to “sympathetic interpretations always, with loads of angst and/or whump on the way to a reasonably happy ending”. I tend to take a somewhat lighter tone in general with my Avengers Academy fics (I’ve written 10 of those and only one of them doesn’t involve Loki, so...yeah I have a one-track mind where Loki is concerned), although I did also write a pretty damn whumpy fic for AvAc Loki. I’m very invested in the relationship between Thor and Loki as brothers, although Thorki is usually a personal squick just because of the pseudo-incest. for things that aren’t necessarily Loki-related, I like found families and deep friendships, sibling bonds, stories about characters reclaiming their own agency from some outside force and/or figuring out how to take control of their own narratives, and probably plenty of other things that aren’t coming to mind at the moment. I’m equally good with plotty fics and little slice-of-life or introspective pieces. I will always always always be happy to see queer characters, especially asexual ones.
more detail about my specific requests, basically just expanded versions of what I wrote in my sign-up:
Silent Hill 3 (Heather Mason). I love this game and that's mostly because of Heather--she's resourceful, brave, and incredibly tough, and the game is essentially all about her reclaiming her agency (in a very literal, physical way) from people who used her for their own ends. Anything that gets into Heather's head would be great, whether it's a missing scene of some kind during the game or something afterward that explores what she does next and how she recovers from a frankly massive amount of trauma. I would also really love to see something involving Angela and/or Maria from Silent Hill 2; I'm not sure how the timelines would line up, but the way Heather basically said "fuck you, you don’t own me" to the cult makes me want to see other female characters find their own agency as well, and it would be really awesome if Heather found a way to help them do that, either by helping them directly or just by influencing the way the town operates. in general, I love these games for their atmosphere and symbolism, so anything you can do along those lines would be great.
Avengers Academy (Loki). I still miss this game. I especially miss Loki, who was a snarky little bastard but really not a bad dude. Mostly I'd be thrilled to see anything that focuses on him (or her, I super loved Loki’s canonical genderfluidity) developing actual friendships at the academy, with any characters who might be relevant (Steve, Natasha, America Chavez, Nebula, Union Jack, Angela, Jane Thor, really anybody). Working things out with Thor and/or the rest of his family is always good too; Loki's Frost Giant storyline didn't involve Thor at all, for instance, probably because it was written well before Thor was added to the game, so I'd be interested to see how things went when he found out his brother was a Frost Giant. I’m also always happy to see crossovers of some kind with other Marvel universes, especially considering AvAc was an interesting patchwork of film and comics canon; meta stuff where characters are aware of their multiverse counterparts is always fun (again, my own AvAc fics are pretty representative of what I like...and if you wanted to build off anything in those, I’d be thrilled). and hey, if you want to pick up or expand on any of the plot threads the game never really got around to, like more about the Academy’s supposed mole, the actual nature and origin of the timefog, or other worldbuilding-related stuff, that would be awesome. I’d also be happy to see something post-canon, showing what characters are up to now or doing some kind of reunion.
Loki: Where Mischief Lies - Mackenzi Lee. I had a lot of issues with this book and I'm not sure how much of that is just me not appreciating what the author was doing with an unreliable narrator (in part because I'm already pretty attached to certain interpretations of Loki) and how much is the author not quite doing it right, but I'd love to see something that would...make it make sense internally in terms of Loki's motivations and actions. It doesn't necessarily have to be a fix-it, although I'd love one of those too, with Loki reuniting with Theo and/or actually reconciling with his family. A giant crossover that includes this Loki with other major versions of Loki could be fun too. I’m planning to write up some kind of actual review to articulate what about this book didn’t work for me, and I’ll update this post with a link when I do that, although...again, I know nobody else offered or requested this one. (if you think it sounds fun or you just want to read this book in general, my library actually has the ebook on Hoopla, so it’s worth checking to see if your library does too.)
Marvel Contest of Champions game (Loki, Thor). The way this game handles Loki continues to piss me off--sometimes it's kind of fun and it strikes a similar balance to recent comics as far as his loyalties and motives are concerned, but most of the time it's like "here's our Loki, his design is based on current comics Loki who's mostly an antihero or even sometimes a hero now, and here's an event storyline explicitly based on the MCU where Loki literally had a redemption arc and a heroic death, but our Loki is still a villain because of reasons". I want the game to fix that, but if they won't, I'd settle for fic. like with Loki: Where Mischief Lies I know nobody matched with me on this one, and this one is probably less accessible--I mean, the game is totally free, but I think all the Loki content so far has been in event storylines, which means you can’t really pick up any of that now (unless somebody on Youtube has been very thorough, I guess; I’ve done some grumbling in my CoC tag but it’s not really helpful as a background). so unless you just happen to have been playing this game regularly for the last few years, it probably won’t work to pick up this one.
